People have pointed to a lot of games. I think My Time At Portia is an especially noted one to being like what people think Palia is.

Still, we don't know what Palia gameplay is exactly like without someone breaking the NDA

I could be wrong on that, though.

When I watch the trailer, I myself see comparisons to possibly Stardew Valley and Harvest Moon in terms of some gameplay aspects. However, the art style has that Breath of the Wild like style.

Another thing I can safely point out is that Game Director Aidan Karabaich described how all of the "sideshows" of a MMORPG is Palia's "main events." (Per #❓│old-team-answers-alpha)

they have said there will be some things to grind but the game is supposed to be cozy. To play as little or as much as you want.

Even though we're trying to avoid the typical grind of MMOs, you'll have lots of bars to fill up and levels to grind, yes```

Well, you won't have to rush to catch up to your friends to play with them. A low level fisher for example can fish right next to their high level fish .. just fishing at their level.

It depends on your reason for playing .. it is a community mmo sim so most things will likely revolve around community activities which some can be player created. We have the bars to fill and there are supposed to be quite a few of those and then there are the story lines to follow. The main one for the world and the individual villager lines to grow your friendship and romance connections.

Another grind comment from the devs : [S6] BuscoBear — 06/03/2021 I think the whole design team has been super into WoW at one point or another. We want to capture those high moments but our game is not meant to be big on the grinding aspects.

Well, maybe solving the mystery with the main story line in between your skilling up time will keep you both immersed and distracted.

They have said that although they feel it is likely most people will still to 2 or 3 skills there is the possibility of doing ALL THE THINGS as they say. [S6] BuscoBear — 06/04/2021 No hard lockouts, but you'll find it challenging to keep up with ALL THE THINGS So if nothing else keeps you grinding maybe trying to max everything will be enough 🙂

If you have some ideas that could be added to the game to help make it more immersive and distraction helping for people like yourself, you can add it to the #game-suggestions channel. And I'm not sure if they have answered it yet ( will check in a minute ) but you could ask the question to them when they open the #851872239435644928 channel at the end of the month.

Yeah it might be that your skill trainer ( assuming one exists ) will have some tasks for you to do to hone your skills and build your friendship with them ( if they are also a villager you can befriend ). If you have 20 skills going that could be a fair number of dailies you may have to do.

A colony of Chapaas has set up near the start of the aqueduct feeding the local village, and now they no longer have water. Go and investigate what happened. You get there and they have blocked the aqueduct, causing the water to flood a local meadow, making the Kitsuu who live there homeless. you unblock the Aqueduct to fix the issue.

We are focused on supporting Neighborhoods large and small! There are definitely challenges with supporting different sized groups through any social progression, so the game is intended to have the goals tuned in such a way that the group size is taken into consideration. This will likely not result in perfect scaling, but will make it possible for any player style to be successful and have fun.
