also bear in mind that although it will be more than the 1400 that was in Pre Alpha it will still be a moderate number of testers... how many is classed as moderate is unknown but we had 80kish interested in Pre-Alpha and now we are at over 118kish interested in Alpha. Hope for the best but don't be too upset if you miss this boat. There will be other chances before release I am sure.

yes less than 2 yeards and 5 months ( dev post 2 months ago said less than 2 years 7 months when asked ) , they're just over 3 years into development of an mmo which on average takes 5-6 years. If you look at the pre-alpha blog ( link in #📢│palia-news ) you will see it is looking pretty good at the seemingly half way mark. But it is an estimate so could be quicker or could be slower depending on how things go over the next 2 years.

The picture of the township with the mill seems like it could have a remote train station. either like some German train stations or as some examples in Japanese anime/manga sometimes. cicadas in background

I todays time where time itself is one of the most important resources I want to enjoy these moments more than just grinding xp more efficient than others. For example I travelled a lot in Guild Wars 2 and often sat close to interesting spots for hours with relaxing music on ears, or scouting places for roleplay opportunities.

Now that I think about it, with the intro to game "arrival with train", I recently played a farming like game called sun haven.
You'll arrive on a train, yeah. The train itself is piloted and controlled by a dragon atop the train and propelled through the dragon flapping it's wings.
He even has a fitting little head for that. Quite environmental way to travel per train I'd say.

I recently played a game based on the martial arts romance comedy genre.

And characters had skills you could level style level relationship level stat levels everything but actual character levels number goes up

And it was so immerisive for me I just didn't care about what I was grinding and did the content I wanted and my cheracers got stronger because of it.

Games that use the carrot on the stick method kinda are just boring now a days.

So, any ideas how you'd imagine arriving in Palia?
I don't mind the train station or port(air and/or sea) approach.
but the beginning might get a bit chaotic with all the new players.
Or go the instanced arrival route like Guild Wars 2, but that may just delay the "Where do all these people come from?" feel at launch.

Maybe doing some culling where you're alone in the beginning and the game server phases players in over time to not scare you.
A bit like starting out in single player and some time after quests or scripted phasing other players in. And later unlocks the friendlist.

I like the idea of transportation terminals, as they are to be designed to handle a capacity, feels natural to have a hustle and bustle there. Then if you use clever instanciation you can prevent it from feeling too crowded.

Still no news on the business model of Palia, my opinion, I would defnitely prefer a sub based gameplay like WoW for example. That means other monetization means are not going to be very intrusive i.e microtransactions. rather than free 2 play and everything costs real money to buy or playing for free becomes extra long and grindy so you'd buy into MTX and speed things up.

The one thing, to consider if it is subscription based is how expensive it is. WoW is $15 at base rate, most subscription streaming services start around $7 and are around $10 for most. Also add on an average $10 to $30 for a console network platform service.

I don't do any streaming services (outside some free trials sometimes) anymore because they don't offer enough value for money. The market has shattered and you can't get your media needs from one source, you cant rely on movies to stay in the library and you are restricted in quality by arbitrary things like covid internet restrictions, licensing on your processor, cable or screen etc. Just a mess.

Though I myself am hoping for a small montly fee (4-6 usd) for all players with no free to play, perhaps if their chat functionality is available on mobile, it could be available even outside the subscription to talk to friends.. I woudln't be averse to cosmetics or items that build into cosmetics like special canvases or paints, while retaining another area of cosmetics only available through gameplay.
Perhaps some token that can be bought with in game currency and converted into membership if they wanted to go that route, allowing those who play way more than others, to use their ingame money for it, and those who play less to make some in game money. Though I guess this depends on the role and importance of ingame money.. I wouldn't want to see the market be dominated by this effect...

To add my opinion on the money and cost of game discussion:
I don't mind buy once then have a small sub and/or ingame cosmetics shop.

I played GW2 for around 7 years and never felt the need to buy itemshop currency to progress. Also there's a way to convert the premium currency to ingame currency and vice versa but it doesn't really feel like you have to.
I did buy gemz mostly for cosmetics still.

Played FF14 arr for a long time too and never felt the sub too much taxing. I paused it because I couldn't find players to play with and I couldn't get myself a house in a nice neighbourhood. Apartments don't work for me.

And in the past I played Runes of Magic for about 5 years, heavy item shop investment needed for a lot of things. Feels like bad grind and I sunk a lot of money in that.
I don't really want to get caught in a sunk cost situation myself after all.

But for now, with a working f2p model, I play Warframe for about 4,5 years now. I know, not really the same like Palia, but... it has one of the friendlier communities still and the model is premium currency<>ingame currency + some grind and mostly cosmetics.
They even have a workshop where you can upload designs as a designer and get a cut of the profit if anyone buys your design ingame.

With most games nowadays with similar models the endgame isn't really dungeons, bosses and similar, it's most of times fashion and that's okay in a virtual world because there it's not bad for the environment like some RL bad things about fashion. ^^

For the example BDO is more f2p based with their itemshop giving a lot of efficient shortcuts to lessen the grind but after some time that didn't feel right for me because I didn't have a lot of people to play with and for most people the ongoing PvP Guild Wars in there was the main endgame...

So, as for monetisation I patiently wait what the devs come up with and keep a healthy conversation about that if they allow it.

I did that in BDO because 8 hours sound way less than over 40 for the wood needed to build myself a bigger boat.
It still took me about 13 hours total.
Paused the game after that.
Mostly because to actually use that investment I'd have to level above 50 and go into PvP for the investment to actually pay out.
