No no. I think the ruins or some of them, were space-stations. I think two things happen (and I'm using official artwork to base this on):
One, some of the humans left into space, but not everyone could go.
Two, the rest of the humans were put into sleep/stasis until some planetary disaster could self-resolve itself.

Enter Palia, you wake up. Worlds changed, human magic in it's remnants. The space faring humans never came back. World is in ruins, time to start again.

My theories in order of your questions:

1.) Space travel of some sort with the intent of colonization.
2.) Centuries likely, we can confirm we only need about 200 years of fossil fuel burning to make a planet reach a point of 'no return' for humans, meaning it's on a permanent path to becoming uninhabitable for humans for a period of time that is long enough to wipe out the human species as a whole. So anywhere from 200 years to 500 would be my educated guess.
3.) In 3000 years, exposed to extreme conditions, adaptations that would take hundreds or thousands of years, can occur in only a century. I think if there were ancestor species like the equivalent of modern earths monkeys, in 3000 years, it's possible societies developed.
4.) Humans. Evidence is Hekla. Over 3000 years old. Has the same aesthetic as the ruins.

I'm eating a cursed combination of foods right now and it's making me wonder if complimentary buffs will be atbing.

Like you can't have two food buffs that buff strength but one that buffs strnghr and dexterity.

I'm going to point at something! Take a look at the bar! It doesn't go down in consistent amounts! This means the pick has a damage amount!

What does this mean? Different picks or proficiency in skill does more damage to the stone! Which unlike some games, the mining of the rock isn't down to a fixed number of swings!

You have your cosmetic outfits, of which we already have a dazzling variety. You also have your tools, like pickaxe, fishing rod, butterfly net. These have quality tiers, but you only have one at a time, e.g. a higher-quality axe replaces the lower-tier one, you're not juggling both. There's a huge variety of harvestable and gatherable and craftable items that you can have in your inventory. Tools specifically, we do want it to be as easy and seamless as possible so you're not constantly swapping items and switching to inventory management after every activity.

But this also means that mining, instead of being like each hit does 'x' amount, or the pick/skill determines the amount of the drop, it determines instead how fast the mining action is done! Which either means the drop amount is fixed, or it also has an effect on skill.
