That is very much true! The only MMOs I ever played were City of Heroes and Ultima Online. Ultima Online was it's own unique experience. But Palia looks to deliver an experience just as awesome

I loved UO... the freedom to choose what I was going to do, joining up with other players to go on quests, but let me tell you what, Palia is all that PLUS more!! I'm so excited 🙂 I actually really miss UO. It's been many many years since I've played that.

As for the evil wizard thing, I have no idea. Palia seems pretty happy-chill farm community sim type game, as far as I'm aware players won't have magical spells, since there's no combat (I heard rumors there's not even a health bar) though I imagine you could make a nifty wizard tower full of books if you wanted.

Hello, my name is Wippit and I'm a non-alpha spouse. It has been 168 days since pre-alpha took my wife, 103 days since she was returned to me, and 19 days since I vanished from Discord. Why did I vanish? Well, unlike Einar and Heklar, computer components don't last 3000 years. Apparently, it was my motherboard's time to say "I'm done!" And rather than just replace the motherboard, I figured I was do for a new system entirely - it's about 7 years old. Unfortunately it was being delivered from the other side of the continent, and the constant flooding in BC caused it to arrive late. Like, a few hours ago.

But, I'm back! I missed you all. I missed you, and you, and you, and.... no, not you... and I missed you, and you, and... I don't know you. You're new. Hi new person.

And look at the horizon! We are only 3 days from the start of "Early 2022" Technically that could be the start of Alpha. And we're only 6 days from the countdown to release ticker rollomg over another month. We will be "less than 2 years and 5 months" from release. And hopefully, though all of that, I can get a smidge of luck and maybe get into the Alpha.

Though, now that I know how actual orbital stuff works, it makes me lightly flinch when any sci-fi/fantasy thing gets it horribly wrong.

Reth responds well to 'what's for dinner?' and 'Who even likes lettuce?' Badruu's eyes snap open if a pun is told anywhere within a 20 mile radius, Auni materializes out of thin air of there's gossip, and I'm pretty sure the act of pouring milk in your cereal is what draws Zeki out even if you've locked your door.

I think it also helps that they are aiming for a start small and grow mentality. That way they can see the long term interest before they build for long term 🙂 Create building blocks and place them as the story unfolds. So maybe at first we will have some villages to work with and their surrounding exploratory zones .. next chapter of the story and another set of villages and their surrounding zones etc ..

rather than give me everything now ... and then complain when there is nothing to do in 5 days

I mean is there an end game in Palia ? What will that be, the day you decide, no more Palia for me ? Or will reaching max level in your skill unlock special area for max levels that everyone just rushes to do ignoring the scenery around them

I am personally hoping there is enough exploration and adventure for those that want to do that .. and then plenty of gathering/harvesting/crafting etc to work alongside that

And a reason to visit the villages when you've levelled beyond them. Maybe the tavern/inn will allow you to get your rest and eating bonus, or will be the place you go to work on your crafting and trading

They gave the impression that 2-3 skills would likely be the average people will 'keep up with' to specialise. Not sure why keeping up with them all would be challenging but I am sure some people ( cough Berry ) will be trying that theory out

I wonder if each skill will have a long list of regular tasks you have to do .. so more skills = more tasks

maybe .. they said resource gathering will have the bottleneck where time needs to slow down a bit .. I suspect gathering for crafting skills that are long winded ( cooking ) will be less slowed down than ones that are linked to crafting that is put stuff here and click a button type thing

Most people will probably have a rough 2-4 hours to play, so it makes sense that you'd want to specialize in a few things to get ahead

unfortunately open testing is still a ways away .. currently in the closed testing phases .. well between them .. Pre-Alpha finished in September with Alpha coming next.. Release is estimated within 3 years ( 2 years 6 months calculated from last dev comment on the subject ).

From now .. they started just over 3 years ago so approximately half way through an MMOs average development time frame. In June they had said that they were much closer than 3 years from release... and a month ago the same dev said they were now less than 2 years 7 months from release. Of course, not dates, so we must use these time frames as estimates.

They release information as it becomes available. Because lore is a part of the main story line we are unlikely to see too much of that before the games release. We regularly have times when we discuss ideas of what we think might be in the game based on info we know about. How much will turn out to be true is unknown but its fun guessing. Next year we will get to hear about more of the critters and more info about the crafting.

A lot of us 'old timers' hover in the background and jump in when new people arrive to welcome them and to spark up new discussions if they are interested .. so, it never hurts to 'muse' to oneself and see if one of us bites
