Some people view cosmetics as progression, others don't. Some players enjoy the core game loop and don't care about progression or having everything as soon as it's released. Some enjoy the grind and want to earn unlockable items. Others would prefer that, but don't have time to invest in the game and would happily pay some money to have those items given their limited play time

I'm not going to sit here and argue when some people are saying progression is cosmetics and others are saying unlocking skills. To be clear, it's not a competitive game and unlocking both are fine by me. There's no competitive advantage over other players, therefore I don't consider it p2w. Enjoy the game for yourselves and stop worrying about other players in a noncompetitive game

SAME! I was lamenting about all the different unique mechanics it had, like the intensive crafting system, the remote control you got to literally set your character up to bot/farm materials while you were afk, the ability to literally "catch/tame" ANY creature as long as you were a certain number of levels higher than it, the cute art style, etc!

The later versions of Harvest Moon added a bunch of monotonous items/activities that I felt were unattractive. Tried Tale of Two Towns, but the game/NPCs just felt too hollow and empty. The only NPC that seemed to care about my character was the witch in the mountains who you can't meet until later in the game.

for me, it was the art that drew me in since it looked so much like WildStar (my absolute all-time fave game) and the fact that it's supposed to be open-world and that i can go exploring all day and then come home, cook myself a meal and then work on making my neighbor a crib or bathtub, or whatever just really speaks to my independent-streak-induced wanderlust

For me, Harvest Moon A Wonderful Life was my very first farm/social sim game and I totally fell in love. My all time favorite in the genre though is Rune Factory 4. When they announced a special edition released on Switch I immediately pre-ordered a collectors edition. If I had the money I would buy a copy for ANYBODY who was interested in the game cause it's just SO good.

I absolutely loved TERA when i was in college, but I've tried to play it again multiple times now and I just hate what it's become 😭 it just feels like they spoon feed you weapons/armor to get you to end game asap so there's absolutely no point to doing all the side quests or even running the dungeons more than once for storyline reasons.

yuss! One of my favorite things was that you could also do the sit emotes while you were flying, so I used to pretend to "sit" on the shoulders of players who were super huge or used an item to make themselves even bigger

I love the variety and ability to macro emotes in FF14 so you can basically create new emotes by using the actions of some but changing what the text says instead

I really liked Black Desert's title system, where you could earn different titles depending on how many mobs you killed. Like for example (and I may be remember the titles themselves wrong), but if you killed like 100 foxes you got the "Foxy" title, 500 got you the "Fox Hunt" title and like 1000 got you "Silver Fox" or something like that

so you could earn the title you wanted depending on how much you wanted it, and other people would immediately know how much effort you made to get it which is kind've nice too

In TERA you would Have to team up with either friends or strangers in the area to kill the BAMs (Big Ass Monsters for any non-Tera peeps) and that's how I've also met friends that I still have to this day, literally 10 years after we all stopped playing the game and it fell apart

if the game has crafting or any kind of hunting, the characters should have all the gear they need by the end of the tutorial. if you're still barefoot at level 35 (and it's not a conscious choice), the game is crap

And anything with pvp is almost always toxic as well. I can't stand pvp now because I get so easily upset when I feel like I'm being bullied which I know is weak-minded but it's just something that really triggers me to the point that my hands and legs will shake and my heart feels like it'll pop. Not my proudest moments 😔

i know S6 mentioned there would be competition, but i don't think Palia will have traditional PvP. maybe somethign like biggest pumpkin, fastest chappaa, or most fish in an hour. but (hopefully) no "lets grab weapons and go murder each other"

yeah I never really get past it unfortunately lol, i played Black Desert for a while, and in that game once you hit lvl 35 i think it was it became open world pvp, so I used to yeet myself off a cliff over and over again to lose experience so I could stay lvl 34 for as long as possible.

Yeah I'm down for like, festival styled competitions like races, or fashion contests or whatever fun mini-game styled stuff there is, I just don't like the "diediediedie" mentality that gets a lot of people's blood boiling and ends up with them screaming at me in-game for not being good at killing other people fast enough lol

For me pvp is kind of something that will never feel rewarding as it did back in UO, with full loot drop. Your valuable items stayed IN THE BANK 90% of the time..it gave things value, and a sense of danger - this doesnt work nowadays, as too many people just choose to pick on the weak to the point of making it almost abusive. in the early days that didnt happen yet as people hadnt really known how profitable it was i guess. I just dont get enjoyment if there isnt proper risk/reward - so id be fine without pvp at all..

Right? I wanna water/harvest my crops, go cuddle my animals, dress up my character all cute/pretty and then go walk around town and listen to people make music with instruments or sit somewhere in town and people watch while relaxing

i think they might be thinking of adding like boxing or wrestling style PvP where it's competitive and non-lethal. but i don't know.

Many pre-alpha testers have experienced a withdrawal. I am more lucky and resilient that is because I did a lot during the tests that I'm still trying to wrap my head around.

Yusss, i loved the combat, the character customization, I absolutely GEEKED out when it started raining for the first time and I could literally watch the puddles form on the dirt roads and see the ground/my character get wet, i loved taming/breeding the horses and I ADORED the instanced housing system. But lord all mighty was that a typical korean grind-your-life-away crafting system and I hated the open world pvp

I think that it can be fun in the right controlled circumstances, going back to Tera (once again lol) they had an actually pretty fun instanced pvp set up that was kind've like a "capture the fortress" styled gameplay. You had 2 teams, one inside the fortress whose goal was to protect the crystal inside until the time limit expired and the outside time, whose goal was to get in and destroy it before time expired. It was actually relatively fun and friendly despite being a pvp thing

Yeah that was honestly one of the only times I've seen an instanced pvp set up that didn't make me wanna cry after going more than 1-2 rounds 😅 and it was great because during the like, 60 seconds before it let everyone lose people who were really good would start strategizing like "ok party A go through the first gate while Party B and C will flank around the back" it was awesome
