they did send out invites for Pre-alpha testing a month or so ago and they state that the plan is to have Palia ready to go Live in less than 3 years. if they need about 6 months between development stages, plus a month or so of testing at each stage, i'm assuming Pre-alpha>Alpha>Closed Beta>Open Beta>Live, or roughly 28 months.
of course this is bare minimum based on what i've seen other games do in their development cycles, so i could be WAY off in my estimate. but i sincerely hope not.

I loved that game honestly, particularly the expansion. It is pretty pricy though and also painful on the computer if you're on a somewhat junky laptop (like me lol)

MH Rise seems just as fun, it's on the switch and comes at a slightly lower price point I believe 🙂

their concern is the information transferrance between servers .. so if you were out in the world or do some important interactivity on a distant server, there could be issues with timing etc ( the old lag problem )

I'll be curious to learn more about how all the systems will work, but there's some comfort in knowing they'll be working with us as they develop them. Devs have proven many times that they browse this Discord and they also appear to be actively perusing social media to see how people are receiving what they've put out so far.

Also, Discord's kinda limitless, so hypothetically it won't matter where you are because you'll still be able to join the server of a neighborhood no matter how the in-game stuff is built. We'll make it work.

There are some games I play where you can't physically game with people if one is on the NA servers and the other is on EU, but you can still pass messages, send items, and be in the same groups/guilds. The separation is just what shard of a map you're on. It'll be interesting to see how Palia tackles this kind of thing.

By the way, on the topic of neighborhoods, there is one dilemma I've been thinking about. Aidan said in the last #❓│old-team-answers-alpha that a big part of how communities / friends start and last will be managed through neighborhoods existing and cutting those hundreds of thousands of people down to smaller groups.

However, that implies that neighborhoods will have a player size limit. So in essence, wouldn't this create kind of a hierarchy of neighborhoods like in other games, where people really want to be in some more special neighborhood over others and the groups themselves become more segregated?

Maybe I'm overthinking it, but I feel like elitism would still be prone to exist in this system unless the special server structure the devs haven't told us about yet is really innovative.

Other clans/guilds in other games are all pretty much focused on combat. You never see crafting guilds in WoW for example. Palia will more likely be different. Since everything is PvE, you could have a neighborhood which focuses on fishing, one that focuses on farming, one that is just general purpose.... it's not all "raid raid raid"

If that's the case, I hope you can go back and forth with some neighborhoods, many through events certain neighborhoods can make that can be open to all.

From what I read there is no time gating .. at least with crafting .. you are only stopped if you don't have the materials .. and things like fishing won't have you hindered from going into other areas because you are too low etc. You and a high level friend fisher can fish in the same lake and will just skill up at your individual rates ( assumedly based on your fishing level ). As far as rewarding .. you'll be rewarded by reaching the levels .. as you level you will get access to new tools.Level up and gain new abilities and tools to succeed. I've not seen anything regarding diminishing returns but then maybe no one has asked that question.

Whether you spend 24 hours or 2 hours a day shouldn't give you anything different. If you reached level 50 in 24 hours you gained those 50 levels of knowledge and tools .. someone who spends 2 hours a day may take several weeks to reach that.

I like to point to Champions Online for their CC. It allows a wide variety of body types, proportions, mix-match features, looks that you can switch between with a single click, and you can even choose a posture/stance for your character that is unique per 'look', so the same character can be an upright dragon beastie and then just as easily start running around on all fours. They also have an extensive set of emotes, meaning you can sit or pose in multiple ways to convey different moods/styles.

It's not a game that does everything right, but that kind of CC is one in a million in my opinion and I'd love to see some of their methods in Palia.
