I feel so heard! This patch, they changed it so that you can try on individual parts of outfits you don't own yet. I can finally see how a different top or pants would mix with my current outfits before buying them!

I'm definitely not fussed about not having the premium outfits. I agree that the defaults aren't bad at all. But I spent 3 months "considering" before buying my $30 second outfit because of the cost. Whereas if they were $10 each, I'd probably be buying one every month.

My mindset goes from "oh that's just a Taco Bell run" to "That's a whole game cost".

People have been requesting simple accessibility-related things like a brightness/gamma slider since, well, beta launched, and probably even before that (I joined at beta launch so idk anything that happened before that) but the game still doesn't have even that so idk 🤷

In defense, people also asked for a sound setting that makes loud sounds quieter and quiet sounds more audible, and that was added. I am sure they're planning to do so, but have not yet... Which is a shame, don't get me wrong, but it's not like they are completely ignoring the feedback.
It's just a slow process of adding one at a time.

Also, they added a rectangle for motion sickness, another accessability setting that was added! I never used it, but recall people asking for it because they got motion sickness from the game. You can now also turn off camera shake!

No, reshade is more complicated.
You can, however, turn down the brightness on most monitors. Also, on the pc itself, you have different options. There is a setting if you just type "graphic settings" in your search bar which is called "Night light" which turns all colours and lights into a warmer tone, which helped me a LOT when I am overly sensitive to brightness.

But we shouldn't have to use third party programs or things like that. Those should be in the game by default. It shouldn't depend on us to find a workaround for something that should be a feature.

Yeah and I believe if you try to re-shade, it will break every time the game updates and you will have to reset your reshader options, iirc from Epiphany's recounted experience in this discord.

Reshader is very... unfriendly to new users. I am rather tech savvy, and tried to use it for a different game before, and all i got was frustration and disappointment.

I absolutely agree with you. 100%. But sometimes, a band-aid is all you have for a little while, and if you really enjoy something, you wanna make it work right then and there, so people come up with these solutions.
Not saying it's right or should be that way, but it's still nice to have them.

I have always used the night light setting and it does not help with the Palia's "brightness" as you're claiming it to be. At least, nto for me. It just slightly alters how the colours look in a sense; hard to explain. Esp since you get used to it after you use it for so long.

I am still going to say "third party" only in the sense that it's not in the game. I understand these are things that your monitor may have, or that it's a "setting on windows", but that's not my point. My point is that it's not a basic feature in a game when it should be.

We should not be looking for workarounds, and I know you're trying to be nice, so this is not directed at you, so please understand that: but it's frustrating that when we do mention it, it gets pushed aside, ignored, and dismissed. We all know there's "ways around it", but it's just something that should already be in the game in the first place.

And yes, it is great that they have seperated the sound, and I'm not going to deny that either. That's awesome it's finally in the game. But agian, should of already been in the game.

And the reason I'm saying this, is because it feels like... 1 tiny thing they add, that should of been basic, some people like to claim (or make it feel like) that means they are excused of tons of other things not being added or fixed. Which is why it's frustrating. And I hope you can also understand that.

I am sorry that it does not help for you! It helps for me, together with turning down the brightness on my monitor itself - it makes the game a lot less intensive on the eyes. I use both not only for Palia, so it's not something I have to change whenever I load up the game.

I totally understand that these options should be in the game! I do not disagree that there should be more accessability options, for everyone.
I am not belittling the frustration, or invalidating your opinion that it should be there. No, I agree it should be there!

All i am trying to do is offer band-aids for people who do not wish to wait. Settings that might help a few, and if it helps one single person, I am already happy.

I still want everyone to keep asking for the settings. I want them to be added, I wish they already were! I wish these things were there from the start, and by the Lord, I wish all games were immediately accessible for me, without having to work out these solutions in the first place.

The only reason i mentioned things that were added was because someone said they don't listen and won't add them - so i wanted to spark a little hope. Other features were added, so these will be as well eventually.

I do think S6 is trying, that's why they keep messing with the lighting, but the real problem in many cases is the lack of options
They hear people say things are too dark, they proceed to make things crazy bright
then people say it's too bright so they tone it down a bit, but, there is no one, single setting that is going to be perfect for everyone, and I wish they'd realize that already and just add a brightness slider so that people can set whatever brightness is most comfortable for them, and everyone is satisfied

The night mode in general is really nice. It has helped my migraines/headaches a little w/ the screen, since I use it 24/7. It takes a bit to adjust, since it will make things look more orange at first, but your eyes genuinely adjust. Hard to explain in words lol.

It's at the point where I rarely think about it cuz i just always use it, and the colours now since I'm used to it, look so similar/exact to what I see on my mobile at this point

The sound issues still are not perfect, but I think the things that I'd like at this point, are a bit more "specific" in some regard. Or could look messy.

I still would like to adjust specific things. I remember when Maji first came out, and there was that audio bug where anytime somebody would capture a chapaa, the sound would be heard map-wide in kilima... or when they tested the sounds with in-game requests... it was headache inducing.

And you could turn off sound effects, but then I'd miss the other sound effects i wanted to hear... And it would of been nice to be able to turn off the more "notification" type sounds or at least adjust that. Or be able to adjust which sound effects are being balanced.

I get overstimulated very easily, so some of these options would of been nice (past tense, but also speaking for future in general.)

They changed it. Once one person breaks it, there is a 3 minute period where others will see it before it disappears and respawns. So when you see it, just break it. You don’t have to wait for others anymore. They’re just still calling out the location so people can find it.

These are things I usually look for in games so much. I just get so overstimulated, or I process things incorrectly. It happens more often than I'd like. Being able to turn off specific audio, or just being able to balance it ourselves ... lol, it'd be great.

I have the issue mostly with visuals, and it can be rough... Especially since I enjoy indie games a lot, and those often don't really consider these issues. You know, the really indie games, that are not as huge as Palia. And it's always disappointing when i have to turn away from a nice, small game because it's a single developer who doesn't even consider accessibility, because it's not relevant for them :'')

It's all good, you were not rude or anything. You voiced why you didn't feel great about it, and I immediately understood. I needed to make it clear that I don't want to shut down conversations, like many others do, but just wanted to add to it.
In the end, it was just that - a conversation about issues, and the wish for it to be better!

@heady arch I understand. I used to try to review or mention to those kind of games about these things, or this and that, but my mana/spoons have been very limited for a while. I used to just contact the devs, too. Doesnt always work of course, but yeah.

I remember for the bird Lovebirb, it felt very inaccessible in some ways, or at least unforgiving, and they ended up fixing some of that and making it a lot more smooth. They were very nice tbhtbh.

I really wish S6 hadn't short-sightedly decided to completely exclude the entirety of (non-default) player cosmetics from ever being earnable through gameplay

and, before people bring up the inevitable "but the devs need to eat!!!" my gripe isnt with the existence of a cash shop, my gripe is with the fact that I feel like I have zero sense of progression when I look at my own character.... and as someone who isn't hugely into the decor aspect of the game, I feel like the game has next to nothing that would incentivise me to play, in terms of rewards I would actually use/enjoy
having a cash shop is okay, but they can and should add a few cosmetics you can earn through gameplay too. Skill-themed outfits would be huge for a lot of people, I feel, and make working on all the skills feel worthwhile beyond just level 10

I'm going to copypasta a really old post I made, back when jel's mannequins were all bare and had nothing on them, about how I felt like they could add earnable outfits and develop jel's character at the same time, to become more than just (imo) a cash shop mascot who tries to make you feel bad for him

imagine how easy this would be if S6 weren't so stubborn about refusing to give players even just a few earnable cosmetics.
Seriously, think about it. All they have to do is tie your skills into it, and... let's say once you reach a certain level in whatever skill, you get a letter from jel saying your hard work been an inspiration to him and asks you to come to his shop
where he offers you a skill-based outfit, and also puts the outfit on display in his store
bam. Fix lack of earnable outfits, fix jel's sad existence so he's not just the cash shop mascot anymore, and dresses up the mannequins with outfits celebrating your accomplishments all in one go

to add to this... I look at all those negative steam reviews, and all I can see is a lot of people passionate about the game, who want to see it improve, but feel frustrated because they feel like they aren't being heard

if it was just review bombing you would just see a bunch of really short negative reviews along the lines of "this game sucks", but a lot of those negative reviews are well-written, cover a huge range of issues, and clearly had a lot of thought put into them.
Those people still care. If I were in charge of S6, I'd be reading those reviews and taking notes. I hope whoever is actually in charge at S6 is doing that, but.... I wouldn't be surprised if they're already making plans to just launch on a new platform or something 😅

You just walk up to the flowers that are fully grown on your plot and it will say collect seeds (or something like that)

afaik each plant will only give ONE seed. You can then plant it and get a seed from that one, but once you get a seed from a plant, you won't get any more from that plant.

Disclaimer that I didn't try it myself yet, but apparently you get exactly 1 seed from each flower you water for a few in-game days. No clue how it works for trees.

Both need to consent (or maybe even, both only see it if they both sent a request so you can't get bombarded with unwanted requests), maybe you need to level up your friendship with them to some level or so to make sure it's not random acquaintances, both can block/remove/etc easily with no gameplay consequences... Maybe even an option to opt out of it entirely for people, probably limiting it to friends and/or communities...

Steam reviewers are harsh. Steam originally had some decent quality requirements to get your game added.

Steam also has a program they call "Early Access" for games that aren't officially released. Games that have that tag will be given more of a chance than ones that don't.

Look at Starfield. It got slammed on steam. They way over promised and when they actuall went live it had a lot of bugs and did not deliver what the advertising promised.

Palia didn't over promise but it's a lot smaller (still being in Beta) and the beta tag on the launcher will scare away a certain segement of people (who will also give it a bad review on Steam) because they don't want to play games until they are released.

Probably due to the amount of bugs expected - when I'm seeing beta, I'm assuming "You can and will get bugs, potentially game-breaking ones, and we cannot guarantee anything about the stability of the game. You might miss out on items or other content without compensation, and we can take anything we want from your account whenever we need to for testing, with no compensation or warning. In exchange, you get to see all this before everyone else, and maybe one or two little extra items if you're extremely lucky, and you most likely will get some hilarious bugs too."
When I'm not seeing beta, I'm expecting a game that has a certain amount of stability, a little more than Palia currently has probably, and some kind of compensation for game-breaking bugs (so, if I lose items to a bug, I expect to get them returned Edit: Note that this is an example, not something I've actually seen in-game.).

I had a bug where fish I needed in the windy temple got accidentally cooked. I got them back a day after sending a ticket. So yes you do get items back. I did have to send a photo of my quest and a video of only being able to catch the other two fish.

As someone who frequently buys games based on their steam reviews, I will say that their system is very flawed (most people do not have the time to review in-depth reviews) in the binary aspect; Right now the status is "Mixed" based on their metrics, and if I wasn't already aware of Palia going in, and if I weren't reading the review discourse, but solely relying on that score (as I suspect most folks do), this would likely be a dealbreaker without understanding any context - it's lazy, but I tend not to glance at anything below a Positive/Very Positive rating in most cases.

This tends to hit MMO-type games fairly hard, in my experience, though (you'll find very few MMO games getting past a "Mostly Positive" ranking on Steam). I think this has been a persent issue for years on the Steam Storefront end.

Nobody owns a positive review just because they played the game a lot. Most of the time it is exactly the opposite.

I think that’s why they started moving away from calling it an mmo. This game is multiplayer but it’s def not what people think when they hear mmo. So then people try it expecting something and being like “oh?”

Tbh If i was a new player and i went to read the reviews and the first 3 are saying not worth it. i would of dropped it for a different game. I have been playing for a year so i want this game to succeed and do better.

Yeah, as the reviews stand, and placing myself behind a veil of ignorance - given the launch reviews, this would have been a state of "I'll put this on my wishlist and see how sentiment normalizes in 6 months"

I usually tell people to just try a game if they think it looks nice, before looking at reviews so they don't get an impression even before they themselves have given it a chance

sometimes when playing animal crossing new horizons ill be like "I freaking hate this game" because there are aspects that annoy me, like the hard stop limit on only having a few bridges / inclines
meanwhile I have 1000 + hours in it

i point again to the battlefront collection for this. big patch fixing a large majority of the issues was released one week after release, but it was already too little too late cause it was already overwhelmingly negative on steam

i mean, on my steam page the first review is negative and with a long wall of text of why it is.
second is a positive one all in russian
third another negative one from a beta tester that likes the game but feels like it needs a lot of improvement

I haven't been here very long so take my opinion with a grain of salt. So far I have enjoyed the game, do I think it has LOTS of room for improvement? For sure I think most games do. The concept of this game is something I personally really enjoy but the game is not going to improve unless the staff team really wants it to. I can't speak on their personality or work ethic because again I haven't been here that long. Any opinions on what the management of the team is like? How is communication? Ect. Unless management has its ducks in a row then the teams under them aren't either. With saying that tho I do like this game so far and hope to see it grow to its full potential in the future.

(I'm not saying anyone is doing a bad job I know how hard it can be operating with a small team T_T)

People are also allowed to not call out every single flow tree / palium they see, and anyone who gets mad about it can move on with their life

I don't know; consumers are very fickle - you look at the rating system on Amazon, Yelp, Grubhub, Uber, lyft, etc. and dropping below a 4/5 rating or its equivalent can kill a small to medium sized business, or effectively result in a driver being out of work (in the case of rideshare)

Yelp and Grubhub are about food/restaurant mostly; Lyft is an Uber alternative. Just different dimensions of the internet propensity to turn everyone into a would-be culture critic, which used to be something that was the purview of specialized writers in newspapers and magazines.

For film you get, e.g, Rotten Tomatoes (or the IMDB review score)

I think people want this game to be something more than what the original plans were. People want mmo but this game seems to very much be multiplayer house decorator. For what it is. It’s good. But some people are reviewing it based on what it could be. There is room for improvement but there is a limit to what that could be. I think the devs are low on money and idk how long the game will last tbh.
