Thank you for your words! Honestly, I gained a greater appreciation for what you guys do after having tried my hand at this

If I recall, my biggest issue was the collision system (which is kinda a subsect of 3D->2D but lemme mention it). I had a few other issues in terms of code/performance, but it might've been easier to figure out on top of the difficulty I faced re-creating building interactions.
A structure in-game, for example, couldn't connect to another because some part of it somewhere was colliding with an adjacent building. You could bypass this collision if you connect it elsewhere and then returned it since the collision box was now different. I designed the planner to try and imitate this, but could never get it close to accurate which led to bug whack-a-mole . Simulating quirks like these (which seems plenty) were important, I didn't like seeing players be misled that their plans works/couldn't work in the planner but is actually the opposite in-game

In the end, I wasn't available enough to fully deep dive in and do a complete study of the housing mechanics. The scope of housing in the game was also rising at the time, so the project had to be halted as it was unlikely to catch up

technically it has a "gate", just not a real one, as in functional like the others. The small piece with the arched top can be used as a gate, even though it's a fence piece. I kinda don't like how they left one end without a post, though. It makes the pieces less functional.

at least it's a lot of knowledge you can take somewhere else! coding something to replicate something else that is equally restrictive and yet free in ways unintended by its creator (glitching) is no easy feat. even mimicking some of it deserves some celebrating. the freedom of blueprints is that you can put anything anywhere so long as it has the right structural integrity- palia is too specific with what it forces you to play with, and you did what you could with what you had while juggling the fascinating developer choices they gave you.

the limitations you explain sound about appropriate for what you were trying to do. it's like building lego sculptures with an instruction manual that gives you the instructions from above your building surface. i think what an applet would need is a 3D builder for sure, and that would likely need much more specific building shapes than square rooms (gazebos), but it would allow the developer to be more specific in defining sockets... however, with their home revamping coming in the future, i can't fathom just how much will change, especially since they intend to employ off-center wall sockets for houses and the roof additions they showcased. it'd be way more bugfixing for sure; more work for more true-to-expectations results.

i may look into it more and who knows, maybe build a proof of concept someone else could take and hit the ground running. it'd be a fun pet project, at least.

I’m also pretty new, (≈75 hrs) and I use one of the other ones from city hall (screenshot from Google included bc it’s 2am where I am and I don’t want to turn on my PC), I like that it’s simple - I put it on the base/foundation as well but that’s a personal choice

It's a whole process. You have to flick them onto a builder's crate, or float them off a red present, move the conservatory out of the way, put the crate where you would want it in the conservatory on the ground, cancel place it out of the way, and then put the conservatory back.

Yes, although I haven't used it for a long time: place the pillar on a shelf, rotate the shelf 90º, place flowers on the side of the pillar. They changed the wooden pillar so this may not work on those.

Yep. Anything can be used as an anchor, as long as the item will sit on it. You can even use dessert plates if you want something smaller, but they can be a bit of a pain to get the item to sit on it bc they are so small (hard to see what you're aiming for).

That's why I suggested the butcher's block, bc the bee plushie is huge, lol

What do you mean by gap? Like they aren't butted up against each other flush? If that's the case it's bc the new update made them attach a bit weird. If you move your mouse around a bit it should get it to sit closer. And if the crate are sunken into the ground, it can make it a bit harder to do that. I suggest making a row by aiming at the ground and just multi-selecting to avoid this, unless you are making a complex structure

I would assume what you are referring to is a ghosted house. You were able to merge rooms at one point by doing this. You can still merge them without ghosting, but you need 2 ppl to do it. This gives you a unique layout, without having to use building blocks. And you cannot glitch wallpaper onto building blocks. You can flick wallpaper onto flooring/roofs, and vice versa but that's it.

Otherwise, what you may be seeing is someone putting carpets/banners/flowers on the walls they built out of building blocks to cover them?

While I don't own either one, I have toured them. I think both are nice, it just depends on what aesthetic you are going for. The additional water and foresty vibe is nice on the Kilima Heights one for more cottagy/coastal builds, and the structures in the Galewind are great for ancient structure builds.

Glitching is easiest on pc. For the longest time most glitching wasn't possible on consoles, but as ppl started to mess with the settings, they were able to figure out how to do things like cancel placement

So now quite a few are possible, but not all

What I use 2 person glitching for is merging house pieces, or putting them together in ways you can't on your own. It's much easier with 2 acc. vs having a person help u bc of timing. You just have to place a room down at the exact same time the other person/acc does

Since I've read on the wiki that there are places with a higher catch percentage than others, it also depends on what bait you use for fishing... Anyway, in the May patch it was said that the catch rate without using bait was increased... Never heard of there being a better chance in certain locations, and I question that.... Especially since they can be hooked anywhere. Catching them without bait is easiest. They increased odds with the latest patch due to the rarity of hooking them.

I've also never rlly noticed a difference between fishing with the group bonus (fishing next to others) vs without it

there is a little trick to that. fill both your inventories, just 1 per quare, both regular and the one for weapon, put smokebombs as they are not in the piles. so when you get close to one, if you see you can pick it up, it's a recipe since inventory is full, but if it says you cannot, then it's scrap like a carrot for exemple

and you server hop until you have the mention that you can pick it up

I would add that if you fill your inv. completely with items that are in the loot piles, it betters your odds. If it says u can pick it up, it's an item u already have in your inv. That way u don't accidentally pick up something when it says it's full, and it ends up not being a recipe

You can make a "cutting tool" to do this, though it is harder than ghosting to line it up. You attach a hallway piece to a harvest house, attach a room, attach a room on either side of that room. Pick up the 3 rooms by the center room and move them to a different wall on the HH, and it should merge 2 of the rooms into each other, centered. May have to move it more than once. Pick up the merged rooms and place them on another wall and remove the center room, and it will leave u with just the merged rooms. They should unmerge when u place them making an L. Anything you put on the end of the L will detach.

they will merge back together when picking up the HH and placing it, or when moving the rooms to diff walls, so just pick up and place the HH a few times till they unmerge

3 rooms attached to a hallway. Pick them up and place them on the side (i don't have room in the pic to actually connect it). Pick up the hallway (put away in inv.). pick up the 3 rooms and move them as many times as it takes till 2 merge. You can pick up the center room left behind it's no longer needed.

take the merged rooms and put them on a wall of your HH and that is your cutting tool

pick up the house and place a few times to unmerge them

the room that makes the top of the L is what will detach things **Make sure these rooms are being pulled from your inv. when initially placed on the HH or it might not work

you would cut the window off by placing it on the end of the L. So it would leave the window floating by itself wherever u attached it

as far as lining it up, that might be a little difficult, as I said. You can't rlly merge the same way as ghosting so it might take 2 ppl

and even then depending on what ur trying to accomplish it might not work due to collision

This one was done with ghosting, but u could try to make something similar with a lot of puzzle work. For example the front wall of that room is cut off where the single window is. You can accomplish this with the tool I showed, but if you ever pick up the opposite room the wall closes. And I think it opens the left side wall. As far as those bay windows, u can't get them that close anymore since we can no longer ghost. You would have to float them, and they would not be socketed to anything, so it won't open that wall up (can't see out the windows) though u r using a pavillion so it should be fine

Put a block on a shelf, *turn shelf by 2 to the right and place shelf normally. Pick up shelf, and move 1 and 1/2 small squares down, and 1/2 small square to the left from original position and cancel place shelf . Put a block on top, pick up and place and they will merge. Repeat from star, but turn another 2 for every block added and they will look just like mine.

I think the 1st and 2nd pics are my favourite! The inset shelves are a really nice balance of near-clutter. As in, lived-in feel, but neat and tidy. Personally, I'd play around with more rugs, wall art, and/or ceiling stuff (lights, hanging baskets, etc). This isn't a criticism! What you have is nice and my ideas are solely what I would do if it was mine. Absolutely decorate how YOU like. You're doing great so far 🙂

Not sure if it's how the experts on here would try it, but if I was in your position, I'd try with one pillar first (not stacked yet). Place a small rug on top of the pillar and group select by clicking on the rug. It should allow you to put the pillar in the crates.

You could then stack the 2nd pillar on top the first one you got placed where you want it.

take your crate outside, then put the second pillar on. Take the pillar stack off, and cancel place it far enough away that it doesn't collide with anything. Pick up your crate and re-attach it to the crates inside. Everything will snap back together.

It does not. It is left however the owner of the plot leaves it. So if they were to mess with something, it would show to those visiting.

there's a way around it, but it's tedious. Place one floor down at a time, and cancel place them out of the way to add the next. Once you're done, switch plots and it'lll all snap in place, but they won't be connected so no grass. Same goes for getting around the grass poking thru pavers.

You could also try just placing them next to each other on the ground and then multi-selecting, tho u have the issue of accidentally connecting them. Point your mouse in the opposite direction of the floor piece you are setting one next to, and it shoudln't connect

you can use a cutting tool to detach the windows, but can no longer do that particular trick, since u can't get the wall to open up. Or at least it would be extremely difficult, and you couldn't get the windows close enough to each other easily

From their video about future developments this does look like the direction they WANT to take. The problem is that with all the construction that people have already done, using the hacky flicks and glitches that have been done, it's highly unlikely to be able to keep what we've made this way when they do release those. It's a thing that has happened in other games I've played for years, any changes to the system will basically mean what exists right now may be blown away. This IS the bane of a Beta test. (Tour) visitors don't affect how other tour visitors see the plot. If the owner of the plot changes something (i.e. moves a tree) you will only see that change if you tour the plot after the change is done. If you are already touring that plot while something is changed by the owner you won't see it unless you leave and re-enter.

Yeah, if u just use crates to build a platform it will go right in more or less. The most you would have to use is cancel placement if the end pieces turn red from merging into the wall

Several ways, you can use a gourmet plate (not sure on the name) on the end of a shelf, rotate 90°, there's a small point in the rim where you can place the book, afterwards take the plate and place it where you want it
