It's been 4 hours without Palia, I can’t stop shaking and I’m having severe mental breakdowns. I woke up today trying to log onto Palia but the launcher was down, I had a major panic attack but managed to calm down after a few hours. I couldn’t go to school today. I am nothing without Palia, it is my life, it is my destiny, without Palia, I wouldn't be able to do anything. Palia is the best thing ever made and I can't get rid of my addiction to it, it is the best game in existence. I can't stop trembling and crying, I am very worried. I used all of my money on Palia, I bought all the backer skins, and bought it for my girlfriend. I don't know what to do. Palia can't be gone any longer cause if it does then I'll go insane again.. breaking my mouse, chair, house, and everything I own. Palia is very amazing and I can't lose it. Palia is my life, I met my amazing girlfriend there, in Kilima Village, I was fishing, when I saw this amazingly attractive woman, she was so cute, I flushed. I found her homestead later and tried to talk to her, she was so kind and cute that I accidentally typed my thoughts out "mind: she's so cute.." and she flushed, then I got nervous. We then went in and made out, after that, we went on many dates to Bahari Bay, where we adopted two companions. They were so cute that I even took them out of town and took them to the Temple of the Flames. And the day after... Palia was down and I went through my panic attack, shivering in fear of losing my fiancée and companions. I am so scared that I might just lose my mind and go insane... I want my companions back.

This is a 15min wait. In that time, I just want to see how much I can type about my experience in Palia.

This could get rather lengthy here. I might also get distracted by cooking, catapaulting myself from one end of the house to the next or by watching TV .

When I first made my character in Palia, I did not know what I was getting into. I ignored reading lengthy TOS and so on. It's all just paperwork anyway. Besides, I thought if I liked it, I would just set up camp in Palia and stay.

Next, referrals turned out to be essential. I like having cool stuff. I had to refer fam and friends. I did. Now, I play with my fam and friends almost daily.

Buying cosmetics is not p2w. The only function of the cosmetics are for looks, it would be p2w if the different house locations gave buffs to skills or something but it’s literally just for looks. Housing tours are basically like a beauty contest for plots with rewards, and when there's paid plot landscapes that can drastically change the appearance of the plot and look straight up better than the default, that.... couuuuuld be a bit of a problem.

The literal Endgame Content of Palia is decorating the Homeplot. At least i see it this way.

The character customization is something every game can have, thats something i think doesnt really play a huge part. But as i see it, Landscapes directly effect the Decor you have on your Homeplot (the Atmospehre). It allows you - only by purchasing with real money - to change your plot into something others cant do, like you buy a unique lamp only available in Chat.

I mean. What. The. Hell. It changes the whole scenery and influences the thematic..

Pay to Win = you Get items in Game to influnce your Gameplay (not leveling up or anything) - but the effective choices you can do in decorating expanded. And you wont get it unless you pay.

It simply just isn't. As a side note, Palia is more a single player game in a multi-people world then it is a multilplayer game. So the concept of pay to win is non-existant. Besides, if it's like you say, the endgame is about cosmetics, there are no winner. My taste is different then yours, I don't like what you like.

You said it yourself: “At least I see it that way.” And that’s perfectly acceptable. But your end game goal is not the end of the game. Therefore, cosmetics are not P2W. If they influenced skill leveling and items in-game, then sure. But they don’t.

That’s also something that players can keep in mind when awarding points. I wouldn’t be surprised if plenty of people prioritize creative builds over the atmosphere… you can’t buy decorating talent/practice or the hours of work people put into gathering materials to craft pieces.

Especially when 2/3 are slight variations of a forest, and we’re already in a forest, I don’t think this’ll be the make or break thing for anyone’s vote. It’s just a bit sad for the pirate/beach enthusiasts specifically who don’t want to shell out the money, but I’d personally still be looking at the parts they had control over.

As an aside, can I ask where you saw the info about tours/rewards? I thought the Dream House thing was going to basically be a showroom for new patch items.

The argument in favor of paywalling cosmetics is that it's supposed to be purely cosmetic with no impact on gameplay. It's not purely cosmetic anymore, I'm afraid, when a new feature (housing tours) has been announced, with actual rewards based on how many 'upvotes" your plot gets
because now, you could argue that paying $$$ = prettier plot = more upvotes = greater rewards from housing tour system

I will say, the game is free. It was well thought out and had much to do. It’s been very fun to play and the grinding I’ve done has paid off. I will say my only complaint is about the bundles, after you complete them it’s like a sense of “now what” for me. So I’ve been working on decorating and plush hunting but remember it’s still free and the team is working hard to give us content, there’s many Palia players and you can’t keep everyone happy. The freezing is so bad this patch. Wow. Try to leave plot, froze for a solid few minutes before Kilima finally loaded. Once in Kilima, try to run to Zeki's shop and froze so hard had to ctrl-alt-del to sign out of Windows and restart.

This so much. People have to realize that devs are still under certain circumstances especially when it comes to being funded by investors, and live service games. It's pretty much required that live service games must continue new feature updates because player reintention is how they get paid by the investors or grants they get. Without constant new stuff players fall off and the retention dies, and with that, so does development! Im pretty sure they are aware (and already trying!) to fix the bugs, they just have to keep pushing forward as they do so because its literally their jobs, if they dont they dont get paid.

After that comes the high up one, which fits my plot's vibe best atm

It's a really nice way to give us more customization options and make our plot even more unique, though they are a bit pricy imo, as are most premium store things

I didn’t say it would be pay to win, I said it wouldn’t be purely cosmetic.

The devs seem to be trying to keep the actual gameplay options as unified as possible when it comes to cash shop vs free experience. The tools don’t have a bonus, the pets don’t provide additional tasks, etc.

I think the problem is that they already said they don't have plans to bring outfit and shop cosmetics to be obtainable with gold and other f2p ways
I do also think they should at least include some options for us to grind for... maybe in the future when the game is more fleshed out and out of beta, but those are the only way they get revenue so I don't think it is gonna change anytime soon

I can understand the upset, then. I don’t think it’s actually going to affect much (I also play Disney Dreamlight Valley, and they do similarly in weekly challenges), but it depends on how it’s implemented.

Personally, it’s so dependent on personal taste and style and if the plot owner can even decorate well that I don’t think it should be a concern to free players. We’ll have to actually see how it’s implemented first tho. If you’re randomly going to plots similarly to how DDLV randomly puts 2 photos against each other or have people on socmed encouraging followers to go to their plots and vote, that’d be more of a concern to me for unfairness
