Exactly! We went from no off board (skate 1) to slow off board (skate 2) to fast off board (skate 3) to advanced off board (skate.) It's just a natural progression of the off board feature and I'm all for it! It invites so many more options for sick lines!!

PlayStation there focus is not on backwards compatibility the only reason why there are doing it in the slightest is because people are bombarding them with questions if they are gone do it also ps3 is really hard to get working because of the RSX Reality Synthesizer

The only soul reason Microsoft got It working is because they started working on the backward compatibility ever since they had the plans on making the xbox one and still worked on it late into the lifespan of the xbox one

I originally plan on getting the Series X cause of the thing I heard

I don’t know how true this is but I heard the Xbox Series S doesn’t support true 4K from what I’ve been told I heard it can only run games up to 30fps, I heard Series X is the Xbox that has the 60fps

The people who grew up with skate 1-3 are much older now. They are in the corporate world, where things are much cleaner, tight knit etc. That could be part of it.

I personally don't see the designs thus far as too corporate but I do agree they are very different from the skate legacy stuff.

Yeah I guess when you compare the decks from the older games with skate. they do look a bit 2D, other than that I think all artwork and whatnot is still speculation

It's a fair point and interesting conversation - especially considering where we're at in the development timeline.

With games usually waiting for a flashy trailer that's been rendered (no shade, I love those trailers), or the first look at a big gaming convention or what not with some polish on the build, etc., the way we're showing up so early with what we've got right now may seem... rough, I guess. And of course we want to the game to look amazing, that San Vansterdam feels like your skate. home.

To get there, we gotta get the gameplay and whatnot right first. And that's why we're bringing folks into playtest (earlier than any game I've worked on at EA in the last 12 years) and increasing the size and scope of our playtests as we move forward.

When testing, most of the time "white/grey box" is used because you're not focusing on the visuals for the testing of gameplay mechanics, right? Like, back in Battlefield 1 CTE (Community Test Environment), the team at DICE would drop builds that the entire map was "grey boxed" because they were focused more on the gameplay mechanics, changes, and improvements and the flow of the map. The art will come. We'll get there.

yeah. the conversation isnt about the game visuals itself (even this early, it does look alright for what it is), it's more about how its presented and branded on the outside, which i would say is fairly important even in the early development process if you're showing it off this early

and it also goes for when the game is out there, when people are looking through whatever storefronts the game is on, when people see the branding, they may not think of it as a proper skating game or the classic franchise they remember playing when they were younger, more like a weird rebrand

i'd say this brand design plus the new live service/f2p decision (we already know how many people complained about that), would probably make it a little undesirable for people who are really hardcore gamers

I think an important question to look at is where is irl skating at in terms of style. I feel the skate franchise has always done their best to reflect the current style of the skating world and I would imagen they will do the same again. I don't think skating culture or style is the same as it was over 12 years ago. However, we shall see!

Completely agree with you there. It's similar to a study I read a while back about kids playgrounds today vs 15-20ish+ years ago.
Back in the day playgrounds were strange metal objects without a lot of clear defining places for "this is how you play". As playgrounds got updated and turned into copy paste tower tunnel slide with more clearly defined specific ways to use them, they found kids became less creative and grew bored of the newer playgrounds far more quickly.

Part of the fun of being creative is figuring out how to use regular spaces in unintended ways. Try things out. Fudge around to find out lol

I personally don’t want it to be more arcade-y than the rest of the series I personally like playing hardcore because I find it more enjoyable when playing for long periods of time but still switch to easy to mess with a spot in way which would otherwise be impossible but as there probably won’t be difficulty settings in this game I personally want a nice middle ground between normal mode and hardcore

I find skate always hit that perfect mix of arcady but realistic. Not so realistic it's frustrating and undoable but not so crazy arcady it feels generic. So many different play styles, so many different ways to approach the same places.
It embodies the spirit of skating while giving you the ability to create and explore as you wish

I only had one bad BAD day.
Caught a small wave, but it bottomed out right before the second sandbar. Nose dipped under the water, caught the sandbar, threw me off into the water. BUT ... leg anchor rope still attached, the board got caught by a second wave and thrown up in the air. Rope jerked it back down, nose first, and it crushed my right foot.
To avoid "trouble" with my folks, I jumped in my car, wrapped a towel around my foot, and drove my manual transmission Geo Prism with only my left foot (right foot on the dashboard to elevate as it had split the top of my foot open - found out it severed a nerve later).
Went home, butterflied some bandages across it to close it up the exposed .. everything.. and wrapped an ace bandage around it, put on a pair of socks and acted like nothing happened.

I'm sitting on the couch, no socks, big (3-4") scar/wound visible, top of my foot is super bruised and purple and whatnot. 

Mom saw. Freaked out. LOL

While learning I had flipped and the leash wrapped around my leg as I went under and the wave yaked my board and tugged supper hard I thought my leg was being sawed momentarily. That's when I realized how dangerous it was to be attached by a rope and to be super mindful of its location.
I got wrecked so much with failed attempts that water was still randomly shooting out of my nose for three days at the most embarrassing times. Da Hub kept asking "you sure you had fun" XD
