Most of the time in game development, you don't get to test the game before Beta. And remember: It's not about "playing the new skate. game". It's about testing out tools and features but the IMPORTANT part is providing constructive and useful feedback.

For sure. It's a possibility. Especially since most pre-pre alpha builds of any game are not optimized, so sometimes a beefy system is needed.
But don't you worry - the goal of the team is to get as many folks in the game as possible, so we want to make sure you don't need a super computer to play it. That being said, a potato from 1992 may not do well.

I know I was talking on here the other day saying how I hope they do a permanent open beta until a 1.0 release. Kinda feels like a hype killer the way they're doing it but I'm a mega fan loll so I might be biased. Who knows tho, still says "pre alpha" on the gameplay so 🤷🏻‍♂️

Except we're still far away from it being a beta and the current playtests aren't even open/ongoing and come in waves. It would cause way more frustration on both sides to have it open right now. They build some, put on a playtest. Go over the data, build more/fix/tweak/add/adjust, release another short playtest, collect more data/feedback, loop continues until they have something solid.

THEN when things gameplay wise are mostly solid is when you have a beta release for a mass test/server test. But here's the thing about betas. Most "betas" people play today and are used to aren't even actually betas but 99.9% of a full release dropped a tiny bit early to hype up and get pre-orders
