It's likely to be at least partially a manual process at this point, meaning it's a lot of work to actually onboard 500 people atm. My guess is they are also likely working on some automation at the same time so that when it's time to invite 10000+ they don't go crazy. Unless I tell people I'm buying at .65, they don't have any way of telling that my price was .65 ETH. Of course, someone could try to frontrun, but they could get badly burned doing that.

Is it likely the whole 3 day sale will be a gas war? Nope. Unlike fixed price mints where 10k of something hit the market at once, there are only something like 270 plots going on sale at a time. The only way there could be a substantial gas war is if everything sells at starting prices, which would mean we're having a half billion dollar land sale.

Absolutely, minting on IMX will save a ton of gas... But at the same time, at 30minutes a Tier 4 drops 1ETH per minute. That means it could be worth paying .3, .4, .5 ETH to lock in a price before it drops to some psychological level and meats another persons's target

Even at 60minutes in, every minute is worth ~.4ETH. So for Tier 4s, at least, there will always been a pretty high incentive to wait as long as possible and then drop a HUGE GAS fee to lock in the land
