Don't expect any "earning potential" before the end of this year, and even when the game releases, I don't think you'll be able to earn much. Illuvium is more similar to physical card-games. You don't usually earn from interacting with those.

League of legends is a great example of the differences between skill levels for champ balance. The extremely deep user base gives us plenty of data to go on. If you filter on silver players, the highest win rate champions are typically much different than challengers.

Also win rates are different from challenger solo queue (top 200 players) and pro games as pro games are more structured. Balance heavily depends on how players play, and what characters opponents are using.

If you could theoretically have a system to achieve a perfect game theoretical balance using advanced AI or something. That would be a horrible experience for gamers, as even the best will never be close to perfect if the game is good. So certain characters would never be played because even though the AI has figured out a way to make them useful and play them well, humans may never achieve that.

Balance is a hard thing. Which is one reason why gamers always complain about it. As soon as you change the game in any way, balance shifts.

I’m not saying AI can’t help balancing to be clear, but it has to be implemented in clever ways

Arena is going to have a high skill ceiling I would think, so the theoretical best will be so so so much better than even people who play all day every day

I am a fan of letting users figure things out though. Games patch things too quick nowadays

There is an issue with critical thought being communicated in the Illuvium discord. Any critique is shut down pretty fast, and it’s an inhibitor to conducive discourse pertaining to the subject.

It’s great to have a happy positive discord, but the balance problem for me is more to do with the lack of critique permitted in the chat.

I don’t personally like SJUD, but he’s been in gaming a long time, he makes salient points pertaining to the game mechanics, balancing, etc.

Anyone who is critical of an aspect of the project or the team, is ganged up on, ridiculed, and even banned. This has to change.
