Light Awaits had a lot of old mechanics that made taking damage a lot more punishing. If you got hit by a krill or rock you'd drop a random emote, and if the selected emote had a shield icon you'd drop a shield instead.

I'm watching videos of Light Awaits since the beta is full right now, it looks like the downed/injured state is also a returning mechanic but with a different animation.

Personally I think they should've went with the limping animation from the end of Eden if they were going to add a slow-moving downed state, at least it would look a lot better.

Light Awaits also had a downed state triggered by taking enough damage to drop something, the new season has a downed state triggered by taking damage to your final health layer.

The crystals on the body is from old beta. I remember at one point we would crawl, raise a hand to the sky (lol) and then die.
But it's also similar to Journey's death, (gameplay spoiler) ||where you turn into snow and slowly stop moving. ||

The elder shield was similar but it prevented all damage up to the "flame" health layer, but your cape energy was still unprotected and you could still get launched by krill. This might be a new cosmetic that does what the krill repellant spell does but without the super armor.

The elder shield was never in the game, except very briefly a few weeks ago and probably by accident.

It looked like something they were working on that accidentally got applied to all elder cosmetics, so we might get something that works similarly but with a cooldown implemented.

I'm really over the amount of suffering my skykid has to go through with this season =_=# Bad enough that we have to crawl after losing light, but then the crabs keep attacking because we can't get away fast enough and I end up losing more wings because I can't reach them in time. To add insult to injury I can't even see the same crabs as another player so if I'm playing with a friend holding my hand they sometimes get thrown away from me by a crab only they can see. It's just... not fun to play. (Yes I've sent feedback)

The leaked shield and Light Awaits shield weren't entirely identical. The leaked shield triggered before any damage to the player's flame, the Light Awaits shield triggered when the player took enough damage to drop a blue emote. So they did do some work on it that we might see later when it's finished.

We don't know exactly what they were trying to do unless they say. All they've said so far is that it's a bug, it's possible that they could have been testing something and then scrapped it. But anything is just speculation unless TGC confirms it

Apparently the elder shields were a broken on-equip effect they accidentally put on all the elder cosmetics, either legacy code that wasn't meant to come back or a leaked WIP shield mechanic.

i wonder, if they were to add sheilds, i feel it would be very stupid if it was specifically for hairs, i feel like utilizing the back equipment slot would fit best as all it does right now is be your slot for props and instruments

I think it would be nice if it wasn't an all or nothing buff. Perhaps having one elder hair in your wardrobe unlocks a first level buff on all your cosmetics - whereas a second hair would grant you another level of protection. It's also good incentive to actually finish the base constellations

wing buffs currently only serve the purpose of letting you have more WL energy wedges, and i don't know how to feel personally about giving them more purpose than they already have now in the form of shielding the player from damage, as helpful as it would be for the controversial changes this season introduces

however now that i say this, it would feel like its rewarding specifically players who were here before the changes, letting the people who weren't around suffer because they can't block or resist damage

Playing sky live, you can get all statues with 130 wl if you dont get hit in the middle of eden. Did test this, you get 20 left over wl after finishing the end stage

Now im worried if were all forced to get 200 wl to even get the statues...

Making it a helmet given at the end of the quest might work, but then everyone would run it for the free armor and all you'd see for the rest of the game are that helmet and moth hair...

If you have to get more than 120 WL to acquire all of the statues, i personally feel it's a bad change

and well, crawling makes you far more vulnerable and you bleed wl non stop, you lose far more than you do in live. its one at a time too, so while you do lose less in quantity, you lose more over time in the storm, on top of what you lose when you get hit by a falling rock

my friends have suffered with me and agree with how much you have to grind for 150+ WL in the current state of the game, getting wingbuffs from every ts and friendship level you buy

What they could do to fix it is make it so dark creatures ignore sky kids that are injured since they're covered in dark crystals, and the animation, speed, and rate of wing loss depends on how much extra damage they take from crystals, rocks or poisoned water.

like do i think more unpredictable danger (not krill on set paths you can time to avoid), a more dynamic health system, and a more dynamic way to protect yourself is a great innovation for the game to make it more fun and interesting to long-term players? absolutely! I think these are really great ideas that TGC are playing with.

However, they're half-baked, unbalanced, and the mechanics are not ready for live. Many games go through tweaking phases when new contents drop (A good example is the final meta of Guild Wars 2's newest expansion, where they wanted it to have a low success rate, but players felt as though it was impossible. The devs worked with the fanbase to widen attack windows and lengthen critical phases so the success window was fair to both the original vision and player satisfaction.)

Sky's current problem is a lot larger than small Live tweaks, though. I think these mechanics need to stay in beta bit longer, but because they're so tied to the season, that's impossible :( what a predicament

tgc is going to make new and old players angry from how much they'll be punished for making 1 mistake, in a game that is, by design, a casual emotional experience

from what i understand, sky:cotl is not a game where you should get increasingly angry because your progress was devastated by a single mistake

When the Trial of Wind sent people back to previous checkpoints if they were unlucky enough to fall on the shrine, they fixed it. Now they're introducing a knockdown state that can cause chain reactions of wing loss that are way too punishing for the new crabs that inevitably will cause them many, many times. I really hope we're getting something to balance this out.

Lady Iris, I understand that these changes are frustrating in the moment, however we have to remember that we are playing in beta, and I do think that they are hearing our frustration. They have picked the innovation direction that they would like to move in, and to their credit they have been trying to tweak the Eden experience since the first build, and have been working on compromises. I suspect that this will be a long-term project to get it to a place where most people are content, we will just have to weather to frustration until then, and understand that some things may not look the same on the other end

I actually think that this particular issue is related to a lot of the overall problems of Sky, and I'm really excited to think about the potential changes this could bring. Such as people complaining its too boring, we only have CR to do, or Eden is too much work to run each week - now you can get 4 AC in one shard event and is a viable alternative. If they are playing with endgame-like content with vertical growth for veterans like shields and such, it would give them a new market to work on which would hopefully lower the candle inflation elsewhere

i hardly was able to buy last ts's banjo and headphones, i was an hour from missing one of the items

it’s not a viable alternative when the cost for warp is 10 ac, or when you need ascended candles for literally anything other than wing buffs. I will be avoiding them entirely as much as possible because I find them to a) make me motion sick b) take way too much time for the lackluster reward (live eden takes me 20-30 min while a shard took 20 solo today) c) be even more boring and tedious than doing eden once per week d) just ruin the entire atmosphere of the areas for me

That's assuming none of these things change. If AC costs are lowered, or if the crawl mechanic is remedied to the point where you can still run Eden weekly as you would personally prefer, then others who prefer the shard events have an alternative to Eden.

Also Iris, Eden wouldn't change inflation, I'm saying if TGC branches into new cosmetics and such like shields or other items, Veterans with too many candles to spend would hypothetically have new end-game content to spend their candles on that aren't necessary for moths. Therefore these new bonus items can be very expensive, but TS and other events can lower their prices (because they're jacked up now for that reason)

But this is all to say that everybody is entitled to their opinion. I don't like being a doomsayer for mmo's because they are perpetually changing. I just wanted to offer some additional angles to consider the recent changes through, that's all

I think it's a general misconception that "veterans" are loaded with candles. I am certainly not, because I've grown tired of candle running, which is probably very common among older players. I do have a nice stash of hearts accumulating, but that's it.

considering they hiked the price of unlocking friendship actions without even testing it in beta, I also find it unlikely they will revert it back down

Yeah. On a good day I can handle it with my brightness down and using Night Shift lighting on my phone. It still sucks but I force myself to do it despite the pain a lot of the time, but the stuff on this level in the beta currently is something I hardly can stand even watching videos of despite not being in an already flared up state. It sucks and I wish there was ever any comment on this that they’re taking it into account but it almost feels like they’re intentionally trying to make the game unavailable for disabled players, even though logically I don’t think it’s that insidious

there should really be an option to turn off flashing lights of any kind (fireworks, glow spell, brightness of the game in general), or at the very least dim/slow down their animation. i personally dont have much issue with them, but they tend to get to me when playing later on in the nights

Not to mention the fine motor control necessary for not beefing it and losing all winged light. I’ve got arthritis and I find playing on Switch a lot easier on my hands than my phone but I’m also very nervous to find out how the new content controls on it

Honestly, one of the basic game features is to deep call, which in itself is the worst blinding visual on screen. I don't think we can expect more understanding from them.

It's concerning knowing the fact that Sky doesn't display any trigger warnings for photosensitive epilepsy at the beginning. The sudden white screen transitions, the flickering shards and even texture bugs that can be very harmful

I think that these events will be even worse on Switch, judging by how much the screen flickers when there is a sunset in Sanctuary. Or in Dreams all the time.

I think part of the problem is because they apparently code things really weird and some stuff is just so entrenched in game itself that they can't figure out how to toggle things for accessibility without screwing up the whole thing

Yeah, I basically have to chose between using Switch and letting my hands feel better while playing, but risk migraine because of the lighting (and minimal lighting options on the Switch itself), or use the Night Shift feature on my phone which takes a lot of the strain from the sheer brightness but risk aggravating the joints in my hand.

Frankly with these personal issues it might just seem silly that I even bother with this game. I know I feel like that sometimes. And demanding changes made just because of my own unique circumstances is something I don’t want to do, but I don’t think I’m alone in thinking this. Really, at this point I’d prefer it if TGC literally came out and said “no, we’re not going to be implementing any customizable lighting options for (insert reason here)” because then at least it’s like I don’t have to keep rambling like a broken record.

i don't think it's silly to "bother" trying to keep playing a game you enjoy it's reasonable to expect the game to have concerns over glaring acessibility issues (flashing, bright transitions, camera shake, etc.) and address them in some way. but do put yourself first if the experience becomes too painful/uncomfortable, no game is worth that

I know its not the same as having warnings in the app itself, but for players with specific triggers/accessibility concerns: I recommend the site "doesthedogdie". it lists different triggers and uncomfortable things, and people can vote yes/no and add comments on things that are present in the film/show/game etc

Same, I would hit up wishlist all the time trying to say the same thing. I’ve also seen others request similar changes due to their struggles too, but just looking at the new content it just affirms to me how none of those requests were taken into account and probably not even considered. I’ve seen zero evidence that it’s even on anybody’s minds at TGC which is really upsetting. I’m not sure what kind of meaningful changes to what’s already in Beta are coming either just seeing how they’re likely following seasonal release schedules. I can only hope that whenever it is released and people start chiming in about accessibility even louder, TGC doesn’t just ignore it.

I think it also has to do with the team growing and staff members taking on other responsibilities. For example, Ktjn used to be in beta chat like nearly every day a year or so ago, now sometimes staff members like her and Sagomay still pop in, but it's much less frequent. I know they still say that feedback gets passed on to the team, but it's easy to feel like player opinions are being ignored when there is a lot of chatter going on and little to no response from TGC themselves. Although I will give them some credit that the recent update has improved the shard events in terms of actually being functional. They're still not good in terms of accessibility for players with disabilities though

the only thing that let me survive the shard just now was the butterflies. Also you can reduce the amount of crabs on you by deepcalling and luring them away BUT this is risky especially in places with few recharge spots. I lured some of the crabs into the clouds by gramma's tree but even then the four i couldnt get away butchered me just fine 💀

Incentive is not having to worry about missing a day in season and not being able to complete the season. As it is now, as a non-AP player, you can only miss one day before having to buy an SC bundle to complete the season (without Ults). With an AP, you can miss up to 17 days. Exclusive are called exclusive for a reason, if you don’t want people to be special than others then don’t have these items. Having these ítems means these kind of situations are bound to happen. I don’t think it has anything to do with vets or moths, just the fact that if it’s a cool mechanic in the game it will live up to the “exclusive” aspect. I have been buying passes every season since enchantment and I love every item I got. It’s just wishful thinking but do I secretly wish for cooler ults like the seasons before Enchantment? Yes.
And tbh (this is just a personal note, not assuming this is how people play) but people I met on sky who I still contact, we mostly do other stuff outside of the game, and the game is just a time we farm together to get candles so we can buy stuff. So in the end it’s still about those physical items.

You need to complete any shard event with red crabs at it to access meditation circle and complete the seasonal quest.

You have to find the shards somewhere in the realm that stays red 10 minutes after eden erupts or check here.
Shards fall every 30 minutes in the daily realm but take around 10-15 minutes to fall.
Check around XX:15 and XX:45 to find them easily.
Currently it's sunny forest/Grandma's.

Burn the dark plants avoiding red crabs and shards to cleanse the shard
You get a mediation circle to start a creature/ collect light quest
Complete the creature quest and a blue diamond appears at the centre
Interact with the diamond to teleport to the ancient memory scene and complete the seasonal quest

You can use any shard in the daily realm on any day to complete the quest as long as it has red crabs and a creature quest

I think shards generated randomly each day. Some days they are "charged" shards which bring crabs and give AC.
Sometimes, when the shard does not shine red - it will only give you regular wax.

Basically if you see a black shard, there won’t be crabs around, you can’t finish seasonal quests from them, and you get normal candles
If you see the red ones, there’s krebs (bleugh), they offer to complete seasonal quest, and you get ac candles from them
And they seem to spawn randomly
AND today seems to be that day Eden is somewhat happy and decides to bring less trouble to the land. Not that it helps us complete quests lolllll

I found this (if I uderstand you correctly, Momo san) at half pasts. The text appears on the bottom of my screen, that a shard has fallen into a realm but no explosions are visible.

I also found if you circle your avatar around itself while burning the quest dark flowers even the lava crabs can't hit you that hard or if you are lucky you avoid collision all together.
I found this out with the normal crabs: they circle too so at one point I tried out and it is successful to avoid more boink.

@edgy zenith . It does not appear during the half hour timing. I tried doing in isle front beach to see if the environment light will change and yes it dies change. Im constantly following explosion records and for me the best timing to shard seeing is during the hour. As per my observations, during the hour timing, environment lighting starts 3 minutes before the hour until the 6th minute after the hour. Averagely, 10 seconds before the 7th minute, explosion or downfall of shards will ge visible. The one we really expect to fall.

So far no, all of the quests have just been to complete one of the various shard events in the realms (the red ones with the crabs and more danger) and then meditate to view a memory. Actually all of the quests are completable already, so unless TGC changes something in the 0.18.5 update this is probably how it will be. They have mentioned that there is still more seasonal content to come in the midseason update, but we don't know what it is

I feel like it's really inconvenient to have a time specific event be a daily quest objective ^^;; we're somewhat fine here in beta because it happens every half hour, but what happens in live? Is it going to be every 2 hours like geyser and grandma? I sometimes end up doing dailies right before reset. Having shard visits as a daily might cause me to miss a seasonal candle.

i’ve done it solo in this build and i found it much easier than in previous builds. With a little bit of strategy, you can get through a lot of the rock rain without getting hit much - run between the recharge points while the rain is lighter, and grab statues as you go, hiding when the rain is heavy. I think i personally could absolutely make it through to the end with my live WL count, and i got like 11 ascended candles from 72 WL.

Okay! Just made another Eden trip. I feel it’s getting better. I sort of understand the new placement of lights in the intermittent area, and now recharge spells and fast cape charge are actually useful. Greying out the other spells makes sort of sense so you can find them, but I’d really like if they were closer to the top. Crawling is less annoying because it’s a little faster. I really wish we could have “fast hop” back in the dark room. That part is still tedious.

I've done it before and my GOD is it pure pain.. even though you never got the first spirit the game will still have you go through the whole "spirit interaction" thing after getting passed the temple.. You have to get lucky and get a Low Gravity spell from that spirit or else the Forest is gonna stop you dead in your tracks..

Though it's kinda fun to mess with players who think you are just a vet with invis cape.. then they notice that you literally can't fly.

Honestly, it's okay to take a break from the game when it feels too suffocating. Everyone have their own taste when it comes to cosmetics and seasonal thingies. Personally, I wasn't fond of the last Season of Abyss so I took a break from the game since before the season started then. And I just came back for the season of performance (which I was 3 weeks too late ;-; ) and came back feeling refreshed. When you feel like taking a break from the game, go for it! Play when it makes you happy and take a break when it makes you feel suffocated.

I feel like everyone here is at a disadvantage in the new season because of the crawling mechanic and the shard events being very dangerous. Even in a group, though 8 max may make it very easy by then, it still feels like one person will lose at least one winged light in the process and the groups all have to regroup to get the knocked player back up by being forced to go near them and pull out their candle. Imagine trying to do that before pnr, like you need to have good timing and it will take more time to lend aid to the knocked player.

I'm just thinking that since it feels unfinished in terms of the season being sparse with content that we'll have potentially more added. And in the past season testing has extended after live release, albeit it was for the final quest to be added, but even with final quest released we could see extended testing and changes added in that way. Fingers crossed something more gets added, even if it's unlocking something after finishing all the quests like how in performance we got harmony hall.

Even though it may be difficult, I like the challenge of some of the shards (gw tho is absolutely too hard lol) and that I get more ac bc I am addicted to resizing also the cosmetics are really good imo. I do think there could have been massive improvements on the quests and a little more forgiving in certain game mechanic areas that we see with 0.18.0, but I'll cope with it and be challenged ig. We have final quest done in beta rn but I think they could do extended testing to add stuff since they do that with final quests or polish in past seasons after they released to live I hope anyways. I found one in the crab memory today, after completing the quest in GW. You have to fly high (bring a light/torch to recharge), into the heli-dark plants cluttering the sky above the crabs. You'll find the WL on the highest heli-plant.

Also this is absolutely frustrating, I've saved almost 1k candles after months and months of grinding, each time a ts would come it would knock me back down to 700-800 and I'd have to grind again and then the same thing will happen with postman but on top of that I can already assume the 270+ pricing for rainbow is gonna practically cut my candle count in half and I'm a lucky one for having saved so much. Newer players especially are gonna be barely able to catch up and I know how much that sucks because I wore myself out when I first started playing, it's just saddening that this keeps happening.

Don't get me wrong, still grateful that tgc made the rainbow pants igc for f2p people who already had the cape from last year to have something new this year, but why so expensive?

ARE THEY MEMORIES OF EDEN? IS EDEN ALIVE? ARE THEY THE KING'S MEMORIES? Speaking of "lore" i also find very weird how dark plants and eden never seemed related at all as You cant find them in eden. But now suddenly this giant crystal sprouts them?

So either, these shard events take place in the past(??????) And explain how dark plants sprouted ( maybe thats why the dandelion seed type of floating dark plant exists now)

Or maybe i missed something with the lore and they were mentioned to be related before, i wouldn't know tbh

Next time I see a dev here ima ask them about that cause like why wouldn't there be any dark plants in eden? I'd be much more likely to do an eden run if they put wax there too and like they gotta now because it's shard lore and if it's not shard lore then they gotta remove the dark plants from the shard event in which case no more lawn work for us and we've finally found a loophole to banish the shard quests or to add wax into eden

I mean ofc it coulddd be implied since both entities come from " darkness " they are related, but then why isn't the path leading up to pnr in eden littered with dark plants? And they are shown to thrive in dark places (like golden wasteland) so its not like dark plants need to absorb light energy to flourish.
