Think about this: even as a beta player, you get to see seasons earlier, but the wait time between each new season is the same as in Live, so you’re not really getting any extra

Also think about this: As a beta player you get to see the season early, play through it at a faster speed but with lots of bugs and probably without a finished ending cut scene. Then you get to play the same season again in Live, but at a slower pace, although hopefully with less bugs and a complete ending cut scene.

You can get all the wing buffs in beta if you want to. I have them all. I play the game as I would in live. Eden trips, wing buff collecting, traveling spirits, etc. You don’t have to stay without flight to test if you don’t want to.

You won't get the beta cape with the white underside. You can however get someone to uber you into office to get the founder's cape in beta. IAPs are turned off, so your beta account can have founder's cape for free. But it's pretty useless other than the candles it gives for testing.

Edit: as stated before, everything in beta is separate from live, so don't expect anything in live for participating in beta.

The Yes: You should be up to test playing all levels of the game, because there are often small adjustments to the experience of them. Don't get too attached to those wings, because it can be a very good test to lose them and have to find them again.
The No: Generally speaking, you don't need to go through Eden to be able to just play a new season or any other new features (like the lantern previously). But it might benefit you to have a certain amount of wing power.

Please be on the lookout for crashes that occur while progressing through Eden
Try and find crashes in Hidden Forest
Try and find crashes in Golden Wasteland
Try and find crashes when taking screenshots
Try to collect wax from as many red candle locations as you can
Try to burn away as much Darkness (plants) as you can
Try to collect as many Winged Light as you can
Chat with other players via friendship, chat bench, or table/bonfire, swing if available

Im a multilingual player. Majority of my friends speak Russian and I've noticed that a lot of curse words are not censored, however long verbs that end with the Russian letter "е" are censored even tho they are ordinary verbs.

I was wondering how can I contribute to the game on this matter? Can I volunteer to write a database of words that need to be censored? Do I make a report? I'll be more than happy to help solve this issue.

My experience with the translator is generally good. It seems to be able to translate most languages -> English. However, you are definitely able to say some pretty nasty things in another language and not have them be caught by the filter when translated.

You'll encounter glitches and have to report each and every one of them. You're a game tester, not a VIP player. Please only consider beta if you're okay with all of the above and more. It's fun at first, but you're working to help fix the game, so you have an obligation to do so, not just mess around because you're in beta.

Some of my thinking relating to the filtering system:
Chinese is probably the hardest language to filter. Even if you recognize all the bad words, there's tens of hundreds of frequently used way for workaround (means can be easily understood by others). There're even papers of machine learning to discuss a model to recognize those workaround base on the meaning of the sentence. Those workaround has involved to an extent that if you filter them base on keywords, you're 100% going to filter other commonly used words as well

Is there a more efficient way of having players sign up for beta testing? A google forum, professional sign-up, etc? I feel like these random links are detrimental to both parties - TGC & players. There's timezones that KTJN has to consider, then you have players who are much younger (children) that become impatient or act out. Then there's those who only try for beta because they think it's "cool" and don't actually want to report bugs. Not sure if it's just me, but there has to be a better way for beta invites, this is gonna keep tiring out the dev team and making players act out as time goes on and as sky becomes more popular.

You've seen some of the issues going on with players spamming (now we have a cooldown) or them not reading FAQ. Maybe a role or locking the category until you get a FAQ role would work? Not my server, not my business, but I do feel there needs to be some changes. It's only a matter of time before there's a big incident or one of the devs needs to take a break bcs of not only the pandemic but their job becoming unnecessarily stressful. KTJN, I do believe you should also be taking breaks and letting the hostile comments go in one ear and out the other, because from what we all can see, it's just increasing. Please do be taking care of yourself too.

@spark lance There are probably better ways to vet testers but the sheer volume of work to do so isn't really sustainable. Having the random opt-in links and regularly kicking inactive testers out is the easiest/most fair way to do it. I take on the small amount of extra work to accommodate time zones because I care about the community. When this was handled by folks on the engineering team, there would be 1 maybe 2 large waves and that's it. Most of the team, including myself, is busy making the game, we don't have the time or staff to conduct interviews with each and every tester, especially when those numbers are in the tens of thousands.

it's against ToS, you might be subject to banning or suspension, not to mention who knows what kind of malicious software you downloaded with your pirated version of the app.

I hope those that want beta just for the early free stuff realize they also have to deal with bugs and glitches that won't be fixed until it gets released later in live. It's not worth losing sleep or throwing fits over a link. Getting a "free" founder's cape in beta won't be worth it if you crash at every start up or face map bugs so annoying that you end up not playing. There's always something to report or test, if you want cool cosmetics, candle grind in live so you can get it when it arrives, or when a traveling spirit arrives.

When reporting your playthrough, especially if you are comparing versions, it's important to include a few things like what you were doing (chatting, questing, candle run, etc.), what levels you played, temperature and battery over time and presence of other players in the level. They are incredibly helpful to TGC when taking a look at your reports and 100x better than saying it "runs better"

When really, there is never going to be a perfect time for everyone. Which is why there's multiple waves at various unannounced times

i just hope that i can play beta before a new wave comes, i heared a case about MONTHS. We just have to be patient... if we want good things happen, we have to do something to good things happen.
