I started out kind of lagging behind a pre-existing Sky friend group, was mostly alone for a while with just an irl friend and her sister, and then got a lot more to join around Dreams

I fell into seasonal feature stuff pretty quick. I had the chance to get Sanctuary pass right in the precise day after you would need packs to complete it. After that, Sky pretty much stuck instantly and... here I am.

If I had gotten the pass when I joined I probably would’ve needed some candle packs, which ultimately would have been about the same amount of money that I wasted on the office cape at the time

This method seems fair to me so that it’s not making past passholders’ purchases pointless, as well as going through all the waiting for all the spirits to return. It should (hopefully) make original passholders grateful that they didn’t have to go through all that waiting to get their ults since they participated in the season, rather than just trying to gatekeep them.

The begging aspect looks to have wore off with seasons with multiple ultimates, unlike the first three seasons with one-and-only gift. Features like this help so anyone who joined early or late would have a chance and not claim that the seasons are unfair. I believe early seasons were pretty hard compared to later seasons, were you would feel completing a season against the actual reward of the ultimate gift.
