I think its changed to being called '15' or something and not 6th edition/ 7th etc?
5e is the most recent version of D&D, unless you’re counting the 2024 5.5e update as a separate version
The core rules were updated in 2024, but only just recently was that update acknowledged by wizards of the coast to actually be 5.5e
Oh nice! So I do have the latest.
5.5e is more a revision of 5e
5e (and even 5.5e) still has lots of combat and killing monsters; nothing like that was removed. It just depends on how each group plays it, and no, there’s no 6e or 7e or “15e” or anything like that officially
I just downloaded a pdf of the old Temple of Elemental Evil which was a load of fun.
Sorry, I am trying to be more pc but I heard the newer editions were more "fluffy" and woke, so to speak, lol. Past 5th edition I believe.
I did see one nicely done image of fluffy versions of classic monsters, almost like baby versions with big eyes that scared me a bit. lolol
Exactly, the 2024 update is basically just a revision of 5e, not a whole new edition, so you’re good, you’ve got the current rules
I mean that intentionally was made to be cute. There were cute things in older editions too. Folk can have fun and also enjoy horror or grimdark.
I think the art you’re referring to is just marketing and stylization, not something you’ll see in the actual game.
The biggest difference between 5e and old school D&D is the old school D&D was a game of survival and resource management, where as modern D&D is heroic fantasy where the players are more like fantasy super heroes
also nothing is stopping the cute fluffy thing from behing a terifying monstrosity XD
ambush preditor built on exploting the human need to pet cute fluffy things
Also I'd be wary with using 'woke'. It's so over used now no one will know what you're refering to. Always better to actually focus on what different playstyle or genre you're enjoying or not vibing with.
Love it. Thank you very much for all of the info. One more things: ALL of my kids want to play Grungs (I know), and I really want to let all of them play them, but I am thinking language and help from humans would be an issue, so I am curious how you all would go about letting them all play the Frog grungs? It came from them all finding the miniatures and forcing me to buy them at a game store. They have all now drawn out their individual Grungs and made their backstories. 🤔
Grungs can speak common too.
That makes a lot of sense, thank you! We will play the older 5e. 😉
Oh, grungs can speak common. lolol
I need to see if they are in the monster manual 5e I have so I can tailor grungs for them to play I guess.
I see now that they have poison lol
Grung are a playable species already. They aren't in the monster manual.
5e is more heroic fantasy, while old D&D was more survival-focused, and Grungs are totally fine just let them speak Common, and you’re good
Furbies have forward facing eyes. Like predators.
And adapt at mimicry and looking non threatening...
Anyway, I'm saying you should put Furbies in your games to act like Crocotta, learning people's names to lure them off into the woods to be devoured.
Honestly, a furby familiar sounds both cute and fun.
Is there an online pdf for playable grungs? Its cool because I just read the different colors mean something
here's the link for the 5e/5.5e grung https://marketplace.dndbeyond.com/category/SRC-00060
The stats for Grung are found in a stand along supplement called "One Grung Above." Its officially published by Wizards of the Coast, but it was made as a charity fundraiser, so that's why they aren't part of any other book or adventure
One Grung Above is their source in 5e ^
It doesnt show much of whats in the book eh? gotcha, thank you all! I appreciate all the info.
The "book" is literally just the stats for the species and nothing else
I was resisting them playing the Grung but I was viciously attacked verbally by other DnD players that overheard. lol kidding, kinda.
I wasn't mean about it. I just said "Uhhh, I dont know....I don't know how that would work guys...uh....ummm...."
Yeahh it’s pretty limited tbh, mostly just the stat block plus a bit of lore since it was made for charity. But you’re not missing a big “book” or anything major what you found is basically all there is for grungs in official 5e stuff
I was thinking of giving them an alligator 'pet' (familiar) that they could ALL command, and depending on what the demanded of it...maybe it does what it wants, not sure.
I might try to find an alligator mini, or just sculpt one from greenstuff and paint. Or digital and print.
Get some foam clay, let your kids sculpt it.
it might be ginormous lol
As it should be
Get one of those boxes of plastic zoo animals that look like they might be about the right scale.
we have super sculpey too so maybe they can make their own pets
thats a great idea too!
A big goofy alligator familiar could be really fun, especially if it’s slightly unpredictable and not fully under control all the time. Makes it more interesting in-game. And using cheap zoo minis or sculpting with clay is a solid, practical way to bring it to the table without overthinking it
Thank you all very much! I appreciate all the help and info/suggestions to make the game better for me and my Grung younglings! Grunglings? lol Headed off to lunch.
can dnd be played solo in some form? are there games like dnd for solo play?
Some people use solo rules plus prompts, or just run it like a guided story with dice deciding outcomes. There are also solo RPGs made for that style, like oracle-based systems.
another random question, but do some people treat rpgs like dnd like there job? do people really earn income from dnd or is it more of a hobby?
It tends more hobby than grind job but there are folks who make a living DMing D&D games for hobby shops and groups.
Some do but its generally not enough to make a living unless they fully commit to it and are running like 3 or 4 games minimum a week
And even then youd be struggling
Keep an eye open for Urizt if you want to learn more about that.

Borrowing from another server member:
Read the information in 'Playing the Game'. Then follow allong with 'Creating A Character' using either the D&D Beyond character builder or Roll20 to make a practice character before heading to #character-discussion to have it looked over.
Feel free to ask any questions you still have here in this channel or check out the resources in #learn-to-play. There's a short interactive module you can play to get a feel for the game, or you could seek out gameplay videos online via YouTube and Twitch. Once you feel ready to play, head over to #find-a-game, one of the many LFG platforms online, or your friendly local game store. If you'd like a printable character sheet, those can be found here.
Thank you i appreciate it
What spells summon creatures
There's a lot of them. Too many to write out a list
So I really would like to play a hill giant ancestry Goliath (path of zealot barbarian) but I hate the aesthetic and culture of hill giants. I cant find much official art work or culture lore.
Start here, scroll down to the ones that start with "Conjure."
https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dnd/br-2024/spell-descriptions#SpellsC
Talk with your DM about using the mechanics from them but changing the description. Like using the halfling stats to represent a small beastperson.
Hill giants don't have much culture/lore other than, they're big and primitive
I'd hate that too. Or consider it a blank canvas, or a misinterpretation by other, smaller species.
Those are all good points. I asked the same thing in the lore channel. My mind is much more at ease now.
I just can’t commission someone 100$ for an avatar im just gonna use once. I don’t have the money rn for that.
Okay? Don't then.
If you're being asked to pay for art to play in a campaign, you are being scammed. Block/report.
Thank you.
Was your DM asking you to do that?
Yeah. I blocked them
And they claimed my art was AI even though I make all my oc art in Gacha life 2. Which doesn’t use ai as far as I know.
It's probably a ploy: "The art you submitted isn't good enough, but pay us and we'll get you something workable."
The only time you really should be paying to play dnd is if it's a paid game or if you're buying the content, i.e. the books.
Having commissioned character art is always optional.
And that should be communicated from the start.
Are you only looking on this server? And D&D isn't an instant-join hobby; it takes time to set up.
Two servers. But the other one is either all full of players or the DM never responds.
I'd suggest casting a wider net. Some of the biggies are D&D Beyond's forums, Roll20's forums, Reddit's r/LFG, and sites like Facebook, MeetUp, and NextDoor. For a fuller list, I wrote a guide linked in my bio.
Thank you.
Good luck!
pls help me
my character sheet on dnd beyong is filled with stuff but it barely takes up any of my screen only 60% of my screen is used but i need to scroll down and the font is tiny and its so annoying
Make sure that your page zoom is set to 100%. It sounds like the page is zoomed out for you. This is a browser setting, not a D&D Beyond setting. See attached Image:
Yea i checked that, i even zoomed in to read better. on a normal 2560x1440 screen i have big edges not being used. Its just frustrating to know that using a pdf sheet would be easier to fit my screen than the program provided (disregarding it bugging out ocasionally), does it run more optimal on chrome ?
I've never had an issue with it on Chrome, but I haven't tried other browsers, so IDK how they'd compare
Hello there, I just joined with the intent of finding a game to play with one of my friends. I have a few campaigns under my belt but I still consider myself to be a debutant and I just wanted to ask: how ridiculous does it sound to play as a burly drow barbarian ?
species/race barely matters to your build, if you are using 2014 drow id sugest asking your dm to remove light sensitivity
is it that bad in sunlight ?
yeah
You'll probably spend a lot of time in sunlight, so disadvantage on all attacks is pretty rough, especially for a martial character who doesn't have the option to rely on spells with saving throws.
makes sense,we'll see what we can find. Thank you !
I think I just avoided a bot or a scammer? Idk
what happened?
I woke up and got a random friend request from someone in the server
They said they noticed I was looking for a campaign on tuesdays and I was just tr ying to gauge to see if they were either a bot or something cus I dont trust random friend requests lmao
Uh I ran their name through the server no messages from them in the server at all
I was asking questions about the campaign. Asked about the sheet like what they'd want me to do.
Asked if we could get in a call so I can figure out how roll 20 works. When asked about my character I showed them the comission art I have of them and they said that it isn't suitable for the campaign. So I was like in my head (oh they use IRL phoots?)
But no it had to be their specific art style right? And idk its just red flags in my opinion right?
Most likely a bot or scammer, especially since they want art specifically in their style.
Absolutely a scam
Mm mm
They also rejected the call I forgot to include that part
said they didn't have a mic and that it was gonna come in next week for the session ☠️
I've had a few friend requests from people in this server out of the blue, from people that've said abosulutely nothing in the server, so I typically ignore them
Alas no tuesday campaign
you'll find something eventually
Is there a way in DDB to filter for books following the 2024 rules specifically?
I know they're technically compatible, but then everything's different enough to the point that creatures and races are wack, Feats basically can't fit and the site directly recommends against multiclassing between 2 (sub)classes if one follows 2014 and one follows 2024
I believe there is, possibly something like filtering out legacy, I can't quite remember as I don't really use DDB
Another unrelated question but how is RAW considered when text specifies "ask your DM"? In settings where RAW is king, and looking at equipment buying or starting magic items
can you give an example of something that says "ask your DM"
You can turn on "5.5e core/expanded" in the online character builders/map vtt etc but I don't see that option in the Marketplace
in that case I'm not entirely sure
PH.36 > Step 2 > Choose a background, compared to in-store AL or Ravenloft
It itself does allow changing an older background but without going as in-dept as the DMG "Creating a Background".
PH.43 > Starting at Higher Levels > Starting Equipment, in general
There is no information other than a table really, and there's no Magic Items A-Z like the DMG or SRD
Then pantheons are missing from Cleric or Paladin entirely, in the PH that is
They are wildly missing from the DMG too, with explanation of which gods to add in a setting but a handful of multiversal gods mentioned, one under Chapter 3 > Gods and Other Powers (under Build your own Pantheon, Asmodeus is mentioned) and a few under Cosmology.
No Good or Neutral which can be used in any setting are given for an easy slot-in for a quick AL character following the setting-specific deity rule
Bastions are missing in its entirety from the PH, even if the AL, again, assumes each level 5 player to have one, and other downtime activities are mentioned sporadically in the PH (crafting, services, and technically living conditions) with the 2014 DMG and Xanathar's missing in 2024 reprint entirely
Obviously there's other stuff mentioning the DM, and some stuff which is implied as such, like RAW basically saying don't be Evil or Unaligned
So the changing the older background is more about changing the feat to an origin feat, at least to my knowledge.
Having magic items when starting at higher levels is down to the DM's discretion
Paladins don't really need a deity, and for clerics I'd say if you can look at 5e for a deity to worship. I don't really understand why the didn't mention deities in 5.5PHB
Bastions I don't really have much knowledge on so I can't really comment on it.

Just an FYI so your message doesn't get deleted by a Mod, it's against the rules to stat your actual age, but age range is allowed like saying you're 18+.
Just to note, AL has specific rules for several of these things. Like building a character at 5th and specifically allowing you to use the DMG custom background if you don't want an existing one.
If you're actually building for AL, you should always start with the AL rules.
Since those rules act as the DM for most
creation questions
And yes, things like bastions aren't in the PH. That doesn't mean they aren't RAW, and the AL rules tell you how you can use them.
Assuming you can get access to the DMG
AL as a DM explains that part, and why it's easier than the Ravenloft variant (which itself misses quite some stuff)
Now for the rest, where the AL assumes RAW but doesn't explain it and neither do the rulebooks, can I assume 5e like deities for example as message above recommended?
AL rules care so little about gods that you can pretty much pick anything that isn't irl 😅
It's pretty much just RP tbh
... Ironically I think either DMG or the basic rules(?) actually mention Greek pantheons so that's ono
Yes you're required to have one for clerics last I checked, no one cares which one you pick unless you're annoying about it
I usually go to the FR books or the wiki tbh
-# current AL rules are also an unholy amalgamation of 2024 and 2014, which doesn't actually play well with DDB at all. But AL rules never have. Filtering just for 2024 will give you a legal character, but it's not the only options.
In DnD terms what does lightly obscured necessarily mean? As in what constitutes that term? Is half cover from alustriel's mooncloak technically obscured since it's now technically harder to be seen?
Does the lack of clear rules mean that you're allowed to choose an idol, a whole pantheon at once or a god from PF2e for example?
You have to pick at least one god to worship. People are going to expect it to at least be a d&d god, but beyond that really no cares
It does state it can't be settings-specific and I don't know what else is best, as quickly checking the 2014 DMG it mentions settings-specific gods
The Gods are all but pointless in 5 / 5.5 e
Well either not at all or for the setting you play
5e phb mentions greek, norse, egyptian and celtic
Also, if you are building for AL, I'd recommend checking out the AL channels. If you ask elsewhere you're going to get a lot of answers that aren't actually legal
Oh wrong source, explains why I couldn't find it
Your Gods choice used to actually effect divine casters spells
AL channels?
Though for gods it's really just, pick something from d&d to say you worship, and beyond that it's all roleplay so it really doesn't matter
It may be roleplay-only, but so is starting with some sheets of paper for an Acolyte
Yes, all the channels that start with AL in the organized play section 😉
And I'm just saying, it seems like you're overthinking it a bit. Pick a d&d god you like and call it good
I didn't have that role, oops! That explains a lot, sorry!
I think I read that role under Channels and Roles wrong, seeing you can often just join a table and I misread the description as League of Legends
You don't need roles to access channels - use id:browse or #channel-guide to find the channel best suited for a topic.
Any oneshots?
woould love a 1shot
Please look for games in the Looking For Game channels (see #find-a-game for more details)

Is there any reason to use a torch rather than a lamp or hooded lantern?
Sure, it's really cheap and easy to carry bundles.
Toss a few around an area to fully light it. Leave them behind you in a maze. Throw them down holes.
Any alternative other than carrying lamp oil to start an easy fire? Because that makes sense and that makes torches sound better
Wait, or should I just carry oil anyway?
If I recall some cantrips and spells can create fire
If you can afford it it can’t hurt
Mostly looking at weight constraints, oil is actually quite cheap
Usually you can carry enough
Oh actually, what to do with backpacks being filled with 50lb out of 30? And do players just hold tools in their hands all the time? Seeing it's not part of a container
belts, loops on backpack, etc.
Other than that, I can see the unwritten toolbelt carry some oil at least
Not a toolbelt per se
Most folks tend to "handwave" the specifics of how that's all carried other then the character is carrying it in some way.
I really doubt most of the items in starting backpacks can be put outside it lol
20lb is rations alone anyway
We're playing D&D, not backpack loading simulator...
Those aren't the same thing?
To be honest, even if I'm in a game that tracks carrying capacity closely, I'm much less likely to check if a backpack is overloaded. That's a bit much even for me.
My first character was a rogue and I loved Skyrim thievery so I might be biased
Helloooo
Howdy. Let us know if u have questions
Alright, let me just go read #learn-to-play first
um should I learn as I play or do I have to like, read ALL the things?
D&D is somewhat hard to learn as you play, mainly for two reasons:
- It is harder to join a group if you don’t know how to play
- Teaching via play often slows down the game by a good margin
If you want to cut down on the amount of reading, read through just Chapter 1 and 2 of the Basic Rules, as well as the class page of the class you want to play. I recommend making a practice character as you go along to help with learning! And of course, this channel is great to ask newbie questions

how many of what dice do i role for stats?
First, do you have a DM yet?
yesnt i do but im just making a character for if i either die or join another campaign
and i had a neet concept
Just remember that most DMs won't accept characters at all if they don't see you roll the dice for rolled stats. Rolling stats on your own before you're ready for the game is a recipe for disaster.
Usually, we recommend the Standard Array method to assign your stats instead, especially if you're a newcomer.
ok ill try that i guess
Abilities
All creatures have six abilities that measure physical and mental characteristics: Strength, Dexterity, Constitution, Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma.
Each ability has a score from 1 to 20, which represents the magnitude of an ability. Each ability also has a modifier from -5 to +5, derived from its score. Add the modifier when you make a D20 Test with the corresponding ability or when a rule asks you to do so.
Determine your ability scores by using one of the following three methods. Your DM might prefer you to use a particular one.
- Standard Array. Use the following six scores for your abilities: 15, 14, 13, 12, 10, 8.
- Random Generation. Roll four d6s and record the total of the highest three dice. Do this five more times, so you have six numbers.
- Point Cost. You have 27 points to spend on your ability scores. The cost of each score is shown on the Ability Score Point Costs table. For example, a score of 14 costs 7 of your 27 points.
After assigning your ability scores, adjust them according to your background. Finally, determine your ability modifiers using the Ability Scores and Modifiers table. Write the modifier next to each of your scores.
I recommend, after reading up a bit, find some live play games on the internets just to get a feel for the flow of game play. I recommend Dimension 20's Titan Takedown, it has mostly new players (WWE entertainers), a basic ruleset (Not much homebrew rules) and is combat focused, so you can find a fight quickly. This is a way of "learn by playing" without actually playing.
I will warn you, Dimension 20 does have campaigns that use rulesets other than DnD, so check online to be sure of what you're watching 1st or you'll get confused.
Is there an equivalent to the silence spell but an item? More specifically, an area surrounding the item can’t be heard from outside the bubble it creates? Runes are also potentially an option but items are easier here
D&D Beyond's search isn't the greatest, but I'm not finding anything in that vein.
Shoot, okay. And runes are just spells caved into stuff to apply that spell to a specific area, right? (I play martials and partial casters lmfao)
So I could cast some equivalent to silence via rune? Do I need to be able to cast the spell to make it a rune, or do they work like spell scrolls?
Is there a way to filter EU-based games or something in the "find a game" channels? Almost every are NA and it'd be very nice to be able to filter the EU only ones so that I can find reasonable time zones
Where are you getting runes? That's not really a default mechanic in d&d
Oh, I had no idea. I feel like I’ve seen people do it in most of the campaigns I’m in for like enchanting items and casting protection spells and stuff
If they're doing that, it's probably homebrew
D&D has spells and then a few very specific features that can affect items. There's no default option to carve runes into anything.
Assuming you ignore the advice to "focus on shared available time rather than shared timezones"...
Maybe trying using Discord's search bar to limit yourself to the channel you want and check for local timezone abbreviations?
Ohhh, maybe it’s more of an aesthetic thing then? Feels like everyone I run into with magic items has runes in the item. I sort of assumed that’s how the base game worked. (I haven’t been able to use my artificer yet, so this is all new to me 😅)
Maybe an artificer or Rune Knight could have flavored things that way, but neither of those let you pick any effect you want either
Ohhhh, shoot, okay, that would make a lot more sense. And I guess glyph of warding is usually what people cast for space protection, and they may have just flavored it up
I am happy when I see the time but it's so mixed. I guess there's no way than going through them manually if I don't want to miss things. But I thought about a lot of other Discord servers with the EU/NA-tags. But I didn't see them anywhere here so
Are there any other known ways to soundproof and protect an area in dnd then? My character will actually go Batman if her sheep dies, and my DM is absolutely the type to kill it if it serves a purpose (it’s a dark and gritty campaign, he’s not toxic, dw)
Unfortunately, no. There's been talk of a revamp to the LFG process, but no word about if/when that will happen.
It’s in a bastion for whatever that’s worth, tho I doubt the defensive walls will do much in this world
There are multiple different spells that can be used for the purpose of protecting/monitoring/guarding a predetermined area or location. These spells span every tier of play, and have a wide array of capabilities.
For example, the level 1st spell Alarm will give you a mental warning whenever anyone unauthorized enters the specified area. And the 4th level spell Faithful Hound will create an invisible and intangible dog that barks and attacks anyone who isn't authorized to enter the area around it
Which rogue lvl 3 subclass is the best/ most fun?
Which is best? That's probably still up to interpretation, but the folks in #optimization probably have some strong opinions on the subject.
Which is most fun? That's definitely up to interpretation. I think Thief and Arcane Trickster are up there, if you ask me.
definitely subjective. different ways to play each of those subclasses, and different level of use depending on the adventure and other party members. there is no best
cleverly using the search in the top right can help filter through the LFG stuff. try based on time zone, or day of the week or any number of keywords
What’s the most common dice do people usually roll?
Easily the d20, used for basically most things, like checks, attacks and saves
90% of D&D is: Roll a d20 to see if you fail / succeed (:
d20, then it's d6,4,8,10,12, then d100, then d3
I wonder what the other dice are for besides the d20
Pretty much
D20 like I said is for checking if something succeeds, everything else is used when a feature specifies them, so usually damage and healing
So you don't need to remember what each individual dice does, because there isn't a specified use for each, just used when needed!
I'm playing my first D&D session tomorrow but am very nervous about proper etiquette. Does anyone have any advice/tips on how to make sure I can be an enjoyable player for everyone at the table?
Be nice as you would regularly, praise others accordingly, join in for roleplay, and don't try to impose your opinions as better than someone else's. Also, communicate your issues, though not always at the table, and please don't annoy your DM for no reason (and be lenient on them, DM'ing can be stressful sometimes and they're probably nervous). Also, try to know what your character can do, it helps keep the game running smoothly, but if others know you're new don't be afraid to reach out for help.
The DM section of the basic rules has quite a lot of advice for the player side too. I can recommend having a look at it: https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dnd/br-2024/the-basics#RespectfortheDM
Hello everyone
Hey hey
Hope ya have a fabulous day
So, I was going through dnd book and saw some blessings and curses and got curious about them
Like, how do you get them exactly?
Part of background? Or when you do something that the diety of a religion approves of? Do you need to be a believer of that diety to gain blessings?
I believe those are determined and provided by the DM, usually as part of story elements with mechanical game impact.
What's the book called?
If y’all to recommend a spellcaster for a new/returning player, which class would it be?
Hmm. Tough call. My kids like playing Druids so maybe that? They seemed to pick it up pretty quickly even the youngest although we also are not playing extremely strict such as tracking and requiring all the spell components.
Plus it's always fun for them to wildshape and be a critter for a bit
It was a Google link
Oohhhhh
"a Google link" is incredibly nebulous and could be literally anything
Spellcasting is weird and complicated 😅
I think it was a 2014 playbook something?
What was the book called
I don't even know if it was a book 😭
I don't know what those things with knowledge are called so I all them books
Ohhhhhh! Boons!
I meant the boons
I went to dnd beyond and saw it
Documents, resources, etc are also applicable terms. But without the name we have no idea.
Boons is also used in a few spots. It is used in DMG 2014 as a possible reward given by DM...
Ah, in DNDBeyond, a 2014 era book, was it the DMG?
Yes?
Epic Boons, or just "Boons"?
Was the section titled "Epic Boons"
was it alongside "supernatural gifts" and "marks of prestige"?
I think it was epic
What are supernatural gifts:0
Marks of prestige? They sound cool!
Right
Because Epic Boons, like Boon of Combat Prowess, they're the endgame tier things for "how do we progress even at level 20"
and in 2024 era D&D, they're a category of feat you only get at level 19+.
Mhm! They do have quite the nice bonuses
That's what makes me conflicted. Should I choose a feat and try to get those boons or improve ability score?
You'd only get those feats as an endgame progression. You wouldn't be starting out with them.
Also is thetr a level beyond 20+?
What about feats? You can either choose a feat or score points
Level 20 is the maximum. Epic Boons are kinda the answer to the question of how to progress further in character power and options, without any more levels to gain.
for 5e & 5.5e officially no.
Yeah, but Epic Boon feats (2024 era) have a prerequisite of level 19+.
And 2014 epic boons are "given by DM only, typically for post-level-20 progression"
What bout normal ones? Like skilled and alert and mobike
Yeah normal ones are normal
They can be aquired early no? Is it better to choose a feat or points?
It depends on the character. Do you need the raw stats? Is a feat's benefit more important? synergies?
Huh. That is true.
Then if I had to choose a feat, what are the top 3 for rouges?
So far alert, mobile and bow mastery seem good 🤔
But what is good for early start?
What's the bow mastery coming from?
I saw it on a tiktok clip
There was shortbow mastery and elf bow mastery?
nope
Ok, so I'm not sure on the elf bow mastery, but the shortbow mastery sounds like it would come from the Weapon Mastery feat
there's crossbow expert but neither of those
"shortbow mastery" also isn't a thing
there's using the mastery property of Shortbow, or the Weapon Master feat that lets you get some weapon mastery property usage
Guys, this might sound stupid, but as a new player is there any way I can join a combat‑heavy game? I played BG3 and got into D&D, and I’ve only played one game where I was mostly silent and nervous during RP :)) and I realized I really like the complexity of the combat part.
Do you have any advice?
Look for D&D games that focus on combat. Some might say something like: “70% combat/30% roleplay” meaning a larger focus on combat over exploration and social encounters.
Things like that.
Some Westmarch games also tend to be more combat/exploration focussed
Thanks! The problem is that most of these games don’t accept newcomers, I assume?
You might be surprised. I think most games are willing to accept newcomers, as long as they have put in the effort to learn the basics of the game.
I’ve just accepted 3 newbies
Ok then I'll give it a try😅 Thank you!
How is the book item supposed to work? Like Sage's book (history)
A book grants you a bonus to certain ability checks, if the DM agrees that it's appropriate.
There seem to be threads about it here or there but often going deep into homebrew and of course searching on "dnd book" makes it hard yo weave through
Ah so another case of I should've asked an AL channel?
Oops
Unless it’s AL specific, no.
But some features like the Sage’s book research ability do require the DM to decide if the character finds, reads, and understands the book and thus the skill check bonus could apply.
A lot depends on the game context and the DM deciding if it makes sense in that game context
Well there's no AL-specific ruling on the book but would that mean that I have to choose a new topic each session, that all of History is the topic or that there's a specific best practice to choose a topic without DM input?
It didn't come up last time nor did I want to take up extra time but it's the one you get with Sage, so that's outside the campaign
You would ask the DM if your character could search for books/scrolls on <subject>
The dm would decide if that makes sense and ask for any rolls
So for example, if you had a Book (History) as per the sage, when your DM told you to make a check like a History (Intelligence) check, you'd say "I have a Book (History). Can I apply the bonus to this check?"
Then your DM determines if the book would help or not.
And yeah like Dosh noted
Oh so "specific topic" is History, and from that it sometimes applies?
That does make more sense RAW and all
The limited stuff I found online all went into homebrew stuff like "This book is ONLY for castle masonry and then it always succeeds!"
Books will always, fortunately and unfortunately, be heavily reliant on DM interpretation in the exact moment
DM interpretation at the table is fine, that makes a lot more sense so thanks!
(Also I'm glad to not have to go in-depth on my character sheet)
howdy
Doing great, how about you?
im doing good, 2026 gonna be my year frfr
i joined to maybe find a group and play dnd for the first time, im not unfamiliar but i am nervous about it. im not good with strangers lol
Welcome to the server! If you’re new to D&D check out #learn-to-play and the pinned messages here.
If you’re ready to find a group, check out #find-a-game as it explains how to use our LFG channels to find a group/game
ye ive seen the channels and asked a couple people already. just gotta be patient now
You’re doing it right, and everyone’s nervous at first. Once you find a chill group, it gets way easier.
I’m kinda looking for dnd friends
Visit #find-a-game for everything you need to start your search, including:
- Instructions for finding a game here on the server (including how to post in our #looking-for channels).
- Suggestions for finding a game outside of this server.
- Basic advice to help you in your hunt.
This is a great place to start!
If you're not looking for a game quite yet and are just looking for friends then come join us in any of the channels! Be friendly and don't be afraid to ask questions! Otherwise #find-a-game will be where you got for games!
Ye I’ve tried too play twice but it got ruined I wanna talk to friendly ppl
Not all channels here are active 24/7 but more active than not. Choose whatever channel sounds like the type fo discussion you wanna have and just join in! Or ask your own question!
Example: I am a DM so I frequent #dm-discussion
Be careful btw! This is a very popular discord and because of that you will get many BOTS trying to add you.
I would avoid anyone who tries to add you who you've never spoken to before
This is good advice please listen to it
I will
Yippie!
Yo I got a question how do I be a good DM this is my first time playing Dungeons and Dragons and I got put as DM how do I be y'know good 😭
well, treat your players with kindness and empathy and respect. encourage your players to do the same with you and each other. that right there is a really good start
Adding on to Parrot, you probably won't be good at the start. Most people aren't good at most things they try for the first time. That's okay! Seek feedback, learn more (there's so much genuinely good advice on YouTube and in books/blogs), and slowly work on getting better.
Actual practice as in actually doing dm stuff yourself is invaluable and irreplaceable. Take some time to learn the rules and some tips as best you can, run a game, find out what you want to change and improve, repeat. Eventually you’ll find out what style and stuff works for you and can tweak and improve it as necessary.
my advice is always "fail fast, fail often, fail constructively"
meaning, don't be afraid to suck at doing something, cause then you can learn how to make something not suck
you just have to have the humility and basic analysis to see what exactly you like and don't like about things you make
Yea I have a grand total of 12 sessions under my belt now as a DM. I've definitely messed up each session but have gottem better each session!
just gotta go for it!
I was dming for ex friends and they were so rude it made me quit but now I was doing it for my dad and grandad and it’s a lil better
The ppl really make or break it for me
I'm sorry you went through that but I'm glad your dad and granddad are playing! I got to teach my wife and sister how to play and it made me extremely happy. Playing dnd with family is amazing.
Thank you everyone
Hello I want to apologize for bothering but I'm new to dnd and have some of the hand books and I was wondering where I could go to find people that would want to start a campaign online
Visit #find-a-game for everything you need to start your search, including:

Why is meeting ppl so nerve wrecking
Fear of new things, looking stupid and being judged probably
depending on where you are, there could be a fear of getting stabbed too.
which is one of the reasons i dont host games in my home. nor do i go to other homes to play.
lol that turned dark
What’s the best combo to combine a necromancer subclass with?
#character-discussion or #optimization woul be the better channels. Multiclassing is generally not recommended for new folks, and this channel focuses on the fundamentals of the game.
Okay, the chance is pretty low. But it's not zero around where I live. Plus, I've listened to a whole lot of CritCrab and LootGoblinMarketplace, so I know how fast things can suddenly go sideways.
Looking for people that I can get into playing dnd with
Never played it before but watched quite a bit of critical role and just fell in love
any DnD clubs in Savanah or Georgia
Visit #find-a-game for everything you need to start your search, including:
- Instructions for finding a game here on the server (including how to post in our #looking-for channels).

- Basic advice to help you in your hunt.
You can follow the bot to #find-a-game to read up on using the server's Looking for Game/Group channels. You're not super likely to find local folks here, @brave crow. Your best bet for that is to try libaries, game stores, school clubs, or use specific platforms like Facebook, Reddit, MeetUp, and NextDoor that are much more based around specific towns and regions.
In case that's your general location, I recommend deleting that as that's against the rules. And you should probably check local gamestores, clubs if applicable or things like book stores.
Asking here for a certain area won't help ya out
Savanah and Georgia are large enough locations for that to be okay but yeah, do mind the server rules and not share personally identifying information here.
For local live games, check your local game stores, book stores, comic shops, and even public libraries.
Hey guys, new here, I got the new core books and I now want to play ravenloft setting but I don't know if is worth to get the van richters guide or the new ravenloft will replace this book
I'd suggest the new Ravenloft book if you have the new 2024 (5.5) core books as it will be designed for that where the Van Rcuhtens Guide (still an awesome book) was designed for the 2014 (5.0).
is ravenloft like the vampire setting?
yep
You can still use Van Richtens with D&D 5.5 but you may need to make some small tweaks to things to align it with the 5.5 gameplay.
But is worth to get both? I got the 2024 core set
Hmmm. Harder question to answer. I think they are worth it but... if you only can get one, get the new Ravenloft book.
😅 Does that help?
I can buy both, but I was afraid that this new book is like a reprint of the older one
So my older one become useless
coool id really wanna play a gothic kinda dnd campaign seems niceee
Are hobby stores a good place to try and play
They can be!
Absolutely worth a shot! LGS(Local Game Stores) are beloved by TTRPG and Card Game enthusiasts alike. I check out mine and found out the do Tuesday Dnd game. Unfortunately I work but I love that they do it
living in a small town is a curse
Cause no LGS???
no lgs no local players ugh terrible stuff i tell ya
Dang. My town is small incomparison to Major Cities. But def mid 5 digit numbers of population. Sweet spot honestly
well some places just dont have a community for that kind of stuff (and im in no position to start one) good thing online forums n online play exists, it really makes dnd n other TTRPGS accessible for a wider audience
Yup! I myself do online mostly too. My whole player table is new amd lives all over the place. We're getting into #dm-discussion talk but I am glad you found a space online that you use! Assuming you're currently playing and not in-between games or something.
no im still lfg as a player, i just joined this discord an hour ago haha.

Oh welcome then!! Try that ^
hi, I am new to dnd. lfg who has the patience to include a newbie to their group
Wanna join? If yes just dm me
Hey keep your ads in #looking-for-players kindly
Oh ok got it, thanks
I've never played dnd, do I need to learn anything before starting? Like maybe some knowledge about races or smth is necessary before being able to play
I recommend at minimum learning how to make a character, basic ability checks, modifiers, core gameplay, classes and combat.
Specifically one class you want to play as, and what it does
Knowing an overview of the classes can help you reach that decision
I recommend you read up on the first few chapters of the free basic rules on #learn-to-play , and feel free to ask any questions you might have
The latter, dnd beyond. The former, may places
Discord, roll20, dnd beyond, Owlbear rodeo and discord, i recommend you look at that after you read the rules
Isn't it the other way around
I went through the dnd beyond adventure as a rogue, is that enough to start playing?
Sorry for bothering
Np, can you send the sheet here so we can see if you’ve done everything correctly?
I can't send an image here
Can you send a link?
Wait have you made a character sheet?
I don't think so
Then go do that I’d say
My signal's pinched out at the moment - what did you pick for class, background and species?
Rogue, human, idk wym by background
Have a look at this: https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dnd/br-2024/character-origins
I'd also suggest using the Standard Array method for your ability scores, and making Dexterity a priority. It's what contributes to your Armour Class, ranged attacks and most weapons rogues use.
I think "haunted One" is what u mean
Also a good idea to make your picks from the options in the free rules, to start. The goal here is to learn how the parts come together, not to pick random options like antimatter weapon mastery.
I pressed looking for dm in find a game server, is that supposed to be for groups of players looking for a dm and not 1 looking for a game? Should I delete that?
Looking for dm is for single players as well
Keep an eye out on #looking-for-players that might interest you, gotta cast a wide net when looking for games
Where are you going
Hey there. I am fairly new to D&D I’ve been playing in my first campaign for about 6mths and really loving it and the lore and storytelling. My family is now wanting to learn to play with me as the DM. I have no idea what to do? I have the PHB of course and have just picked up a cop of the DMG and MM. I have been watching a few tutorials on running D&D for kids as my girls are 9,8 and 7. Does anyone have any tips and or resources for me to learn/use to run a young kid friendly version of LMOP?
hello, my group has a DM but I'd like to DM in the future once I've got some experience. How realistic is it to find a group here, practice and prepare a campaign then offer to do a digital only oneshot to practice?
Very easy.
Interesting 🤔 can it be done whilst only owning the physical books and not paying for anything else?
I've got the players handbook and I'm happy to get the DM book and the monster book
Easy enough, as long as you see it through.
Absolutely. Your players will have any options they have access to, or they can use the free content.
Legitimately I’d say the hardest part would be scheduling lol
Yeah it'll be clear that it's just going to be a oneshot to practice and I'll put the effort in. Honestly I'll probably like, prepare a campaign, then offer explain stuff and ask if there's a group who wants to play
(The difficulty of which varies depending on your Timezone)
I was just about to say that. Definitely figure when you are going to be regularly available first. There are plenty of potential players.
Is this the best place to go about finding groups for EU (UK specifically)?
The majority of people here are American, but there is a relatively large EU audience, so you should be fine.
-# Me meanwhile in Australia struggling bad with time zones…
It will just be a one off so no worries about that. And I am confident my schedule won't suddenly change unless I get hit by a car
Plus, if you're playing UK evening time you can snag US players who are free in the morning or afternoon.
Australians trying to play games is tough, there's so few people in those timezones. Probably because gravity is upside down but I'm not an expert
I mostly play in person because of it :D
As for the gravity, the gravity ain’t upside down in Australia, the rest of the world’s gravity is inversed/j
But yeah, it's very possible. Prepare your scenario, make your pitch, make sure you've practiced a bit with your digital tools before game day, have fun!
Where do I get started on digital tools. I've watched guides on how to DM but not online specific
If you want help making a one shot, the 5 Room Dungeon is a good resource/format to use
One thing I'd suggest if you're not going to do a full Session Zero is to prepare an abbreviated version for use before play. I have found this helps for one-shot groups to get everyone on the same page quickly.
This one I assume
https://www.roleplayingtips.com/get-ultimate-guide-5rd/
What would that look like
Options vary. Owlbear Rodeo or Roll20 are the usual suggestions. They'll sort you out with a virtual tabletop to share images.
Let me render it as bullet points, one sec.
Are either/ both of these free? I don't want to get halfway through one and be slammed by a pay wall
Both are free to use, though I don’t believe all their features are free
I personally use Owlbear for free and it’s served me well
Aslong as it's enough to DM a oneshot comfortably I'll be happy
I'll go with Owlbear then thanks
I can say Owlbear should be able to be good enough
Actually can you link me to owlbear because it's just coming up with the monster
https://www.owlbear.rodeo
here :D
- this is a fun, friendly game where your party know and trust one another as you do heroic adventuring things
- think PG-13, there will likely be bloody violence but we're not lingering on the details, physical intimacy is off-screen, that kind of thing
- if the content makes you personally uncomfortable just give me a Time Out, we'll chat privately and I'll adjust the scenario
- the adventure is thataway, so if you run off in the other direction it's been nice knowing you
Thanks!
Have you got a scenario in mind? #dm-discussion is always open.
Nope, I'd probably like to have it less roleplay more combat/ puzzles but a focus not the only thing. I'll try and have a unique theme twist but keep it simple
I would like to threaten my players atleast a little. Would be nice to kill 1 player maybe and let them revive right after or like, be healed by a teammate
I don't want to make it boring and I won't be doing many voices because I'm not confident in my own
Good plan. Conflict, interaction, exploration. Couple of fights with some talking and figuring things out in between.
Should I buy the 2024 monster manual and masters guide?
Or is something else more important or I should get a 3rd thing ontop?
I'd start with just the free rules. And if you like the game well enough, then invest in things like the Players Handbook, Dungeon Master Guide, and Monster Manual as needed and desired.
Ive played a game and liked it so I've got the players handbook. I feel like I might as well get the other two, they seem relatively affordable. 56 for both and have good resale value and I can return them for free for 30 days
Ok I've gone for it!
Spenny but it's such a cool game
Its very fun!

You're probably the best person to know what your kids can and cannot handle, so it's probably best to read through the whole module and make any necessary edits. If doing that puts you in a bind somehow, you can always ask for general guidance in #dm-discussion or more adventure-specific advice in #1029833015423143957!
If i quicken fireball then use my action to cast scorching ray
Is that allowed or nah?
If you cast a spell as a Bonus Action, you can only cast cantrips as your Action, not leveled spells, so scorching ray wouldn't work
Im new here

okay so uh, what race would be good for an ancient plant healer
Whatever race/species sounds fun for you
Any really, but if you're focusing on nature you could look at playing an Elf or a Firbolg. A Genasi could also work well if you're interested. Probably a better topic for #character-discussion 😄
Yeah Elf or Firbolg are good choices.
dryad maybe
bc I found out that was a thing
no clue
If you're looking at Dryad, you could also look at Satyrs as an option
In DnD, you pick your species from a list of available ones. You can see which ones are free over here:

Hi does anyone know a good ai detector to check someone’s campaign?
I’m new to dnd I got invited to a campaign but I see really bad signs from it already
There aren’t really any reliable AI detector tools out there, especially for written work. If you’re getting bad vibes then there’s no harm in checking out of the campaign. No D&D is better than bad D&D
Hey, i need some advice. It’s my first time creating a character.
Pretty much, I want their backstory to be a would-be paladin in training but events lead to them becoming a rogue.
Maybe they’re a paladin who was pulled aside to learn the art of assassination?
Depends on which aspect of rogue you want to lean into.
Also, you can be a rogue who is a paladin in lore but a rogue in mechanics
More like abandoned. “Oath breaker” type. I agree with your suggestion that they can be paladin by lore but with assassin mechanics.
Heads up, oathbreakers are technically canonically always evil. Breaking an oath doesn’t automatically make you an oathbreaker, only breaking it for evil does.
If your stats allow it it’s possible, but I don’t recommend multiclassing if you’re new
For sure. I dont plan to anytime soon.
Multiclassing can more than likely weaken your character for no good reason. It leads to the best and worst builds
Hey I'm new to D&D
Welcome. Let us know if you have questions!
In reference to what?
Like art or content?
I have play a d&d game yet and I'm want to know how to get a game going. Ik I need a DM. I have a character on DND beyond.com

- To know the rules, including how to create a character (https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dnd/br-2024)
- Dice, which can be free/digital
- People to play with (which you can find by using the server's Looking for Game/Group channels; read #find-a-game for the info)
Thx for the help I'll check it out 😃
Just a typed out background to the campaign
Dos it feel ai what is it your worried about or what’s setting you off?
Well they want me to pay for art and they sent me stuff about the campaign even the people joining but it feels off
Pay for art is the latest scam. Leave while you can
You should have fun wasting their time
Yeah it's a shame, I finally thought I found a campaign the other day and they ended up being one of those
Please report spam and scams to Discord so they can remove those accounts off their server. If they were advertising here, come to #moderator-support and simply ask to speak with a moderator.
We don't like scammers either.
Yeah that’s not normal block report. Was this an ad here?
Alot of the time for ai background you can tell based off of small signs like em dashes (granted some people do use them, its just very rare)
Well rare idk how many people really use them but irl ive never met someone that does on purpose
I mean I used 10 ai detector sites and 7 said they were ai 1 was both ai and human and 2 said it was human so I’m not sure
I’m not too certain but I think it was another discord so nothing anyone can do here
Hello
Yo, I've never touched DND before but my friend has been begging me to learn it so here I am 😭
Welcome!
Read up on the first few chapters of the free basic rules on #learn-to-play , and feel free to ask any questions you might have. Then, make a practice character and get it reviewed in #character-discussion .
https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dnd/free-rules
Read Playing The Game and Character Creation
alright, ty !!
If you’re feeling overwhelmed, I recommend just learning how to make a character, basic ability checks, modifiers, core gameplay, classes and combat.
And of course, if you have any specific questions, please ask away!
I've been told about the classes and races and such, and I've watched a few DND sessions, mostly from Dropout's Dimension 20, and thats about it lol
"you need at least 1 friend" damn looks like thats it for me /j
@hearty blaze Does my wizard look fine? It is 5e and I am still working on the background. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Mc2HBdkGwnqqmKkAigIEuASYdyrIzBHL/view?usp=drivesdk
You’re missing most of your spells, else it’s usable
Yea I know try asking some one else but at lv 1 I think you should have 6 known lv 1 spells
I believe I fixed it?

Ok.
Thank you for the help.
Hi guys. My name is Pixie and im a returning dnd player. I played when I was younger but I unfortunately dont remember alot of things. I was hoping someone could help me with picking a character and what class and stuff I should start out with
Well, do you have any preferences for this character?
Playstyle, abilities, vibes, anything to narrow it down?
Hello! I’ve never played before, and I don’t really know much about it
Well if you’re a DM you get to just make up rules and pretend they’re canon lol
lol
You got the dm role are you planning to dm?
I don’t know why I got the role lol, though I am ready to learn how to
You selected your rolls when you joined the server, either way dm or player i suggest getting familiar with the free basic rules
Tbh what matters most is having fun, my first time playing neither DM nor players had any clue what we were doing, but we rolled with it. So yes learn the rules, but don’t stress it! Nobody knows all the rules anyways🤣
Then either find a group as a player or i suggest using a pre written adventure as dm
Lost Mine of Phandelver is a good first campaign
Hello, im new to dnd and wondering how i can start? I've gone over the 5e 2014 handbook but now im stuck at the part of actually playing the game lol
you basically have to look for campaigns and join as a player, or if you're interested more in storytelling you can always make your own campaign (or use pre-written adventures)
the channel you should look for is #find-a-game
Im actually going to learn how to DM with this campaign
That's what I did too! It's a great campaign to learn and there are many tips online since it has ben ran by so many people.
When i think about it, I'm like scared and nervous but no one im playing with knows what theyre doing so im gonna try to just roll with it
Don’t worry, all you need to do is have fun. If you can’t remember a rule you can always Google it (I keep my laptop open) or just make it up!
Can someone help me with a spell combo that my character has where I don't know of it will work the way I want it to?
Sorcerous burst and randomise the damage type?
No absorb elements and magic missile
Not sure I follow. What do you mean?
If I want to hit 1 target do I also get the extra damage from absorb elements as many times as I hit the enemy or only once
"The first time you hit with a melee attack..." from what I'm reading. So no, it only goes off once, and casting magic missile wouldn't be a trigger as it's not a melee attack.
those two spells dont interact
How about something like booming blade or a smite?
Yeah that would work but as I was checking my spells again a got a nother question about katapult
The question is that the amount of damage it deals should be proportional to the speed and mass of the object so if I cast it as a circel it gets more range but to cover that range in 1 turn it needs more speed so shouldn't the damage be higher?
It is not.
One of the things about spellcasting in this game is that spells do what they say, and that's it.
But can't I make a work around with sending an object in the air so it makes damage once it drops on the ground?
You can’t change the rules of dnd
If a spell says big ball of fire it will be a big ball of fire
That would be a call for the DM to make. At least, it'd lose the direct damage of catapult and there's also the question of whether it'd actually hit whatever target you hoped.
Yes that is right but because it doesn't arches I just need a way to get it over an enemy
As a way of moving an item, sure. As an attack, you'll be limited by the text of the spell.
But the spell still sounds really funny and circle magic is just unbalanced and op
And can't you just reset the velocity of anything with it
Yo lowkey how do I start

So do i need to make character on Dnd beyond and get my character sheet or do I need to make the character sheet on roll 20. I am really confused about this
During gameplay do I need to use my character sheet
On Dnd beyond or roll 20
that 100% is based on what Your DM uses. If you dont have a g ame, then practice in Beyond as it is the more popular
Hello, first time chatting here and wondered if anyone could assist. It's our first time levelling and I am running a small campaign (starter) for my friends.
I've done a level up on a druid but found that the Basic Rules 2024 and PHB 24 refer to only getting a Druid Subclass at level 3, We only just leveled to 2.
I did the level up through D&D Beyond and it's offered me the selection of Druid Circles at level 2. The contradiction has left me confused. Any assistance or direction would be appreciated!
You likely selected the legacy rules by accident
Druids got their subclass at level 2 in 2014 rules
Gah, might be that then I will go check thank you!
Hello. I'm a newbie. I've been reading the rules for the past few months and I still cant understand what hit dice are and how they work. please help😭
Different class have different dice you roll for them Barbaran use 1d12 you add a con-modifier to it and every level you roll or pick the average which should say in the player hand book as well as if you get a feat it can add heath as well
Wich is the con +3 that what it should look like
so barbarians will only use d12s for attack rolls?
Depends on the weapon if they have a great axe yes and they add their strength modifier and there rage damage
And there two rolls one is to hit wich is 1d20+ STR+ proficiency then they roll damage wich is the weapon damage wich in the book tell you different damages depending on the weapon
Hit dice do not affect attack rolls
so they're for damage then?
Hit dice are for your own Hit Points.
Spend them during a short rest to recover HP. Roll the die when you level up to increase your maximum HP.
There your health point so if you have 12 and take 11 you lose those point till you heal or short or long rest
Basically, you have a specific hit die based on your class (it will be one listed by the class info, so for the example, barbarians have a d12 for a hit die)
- You have number of hit dice equal to your level in that class
- Your hit points at level 1 are your hit die + your constitution modifier
- Each level up your hit points increase by average roll of your hit die + your constitution modifier, or a roll of your hit die
- When short resting, you can expend any number of hit dice to roll, and restoring hit poitns equal to the roll + constitution modifier
- Each long rest you regain half of your maximum hit dice
There may also be other effects that require your hit dice, such as the Withering Bloom -spell, but those have their own specific rules explained in each effect
so different classes would have different hit dice right?
Yep. Fighters have a d10 I believe, and rogues and most spellcasters a d6, if I'm not wrong
but again, those are one of the first things listed on the class info
Basically, that's the most common and universal use of them
your message implies there's an uncommon use for them😨
You don't need to worry about those for now. The important ones are calculating your hit points, and recovering hit points during a short rest
What?
I think I remember reading somewhere that fighters get a certain type of die, of which have 2 uses, that they can use in combat
Yeah I still have no idea what that's referring to
There is a subclass, Battlemaster, which gets their own special dice to use for manouvers in combat, which might be what you're thinking of
But they get 4 to start with
yeah I think that might be it. wait lemme check the rulebook
yeah no I think I might have seen it in some homebrew. can't fing it in the books
still tho thanks soo much for the help
These are superiority die for certain subclasses and feats such as martial adept.

Hey can someone teach me how to dm? Im pretty new to dnd but really wanna dm!
you might also be thinking of the arcane archer subclass 5e
Hi I’m new me and my friend are looking for where to play our first game together
Can anyone help
Assuming you guys have familiarized yourself with the rules of dnd, I advise you check in #find-a-game
This has plenty of help to get you started. I'd also suggest looking up the Five Room Dungeon. Make three adventures that tell a story with a start, middle and end and you've got a campaign.
so if your looking to just play as a player how does this work. i would love to play but i need a dm and a way to see if my character is fit for their story ya know.
Check the listings in #looking-for-players for games that want people, read the details, respond as appropriate and cross your fingers.
Type /looking and select the option for #looking-for-dm to advertise yourself as a new player in search of a group. Be sure to include your regular availability!
There are other Discord servers where people gather for games. You can find them in #looking-for-community .
Aside from here, you could also try LFG areas in sites like Reddit, Roll20 or the D&D Beyond forums to get started.
Generally speaking it's best to find a game before making a whole character. Have ideas, have concepts, but ideally you build someone within the world they live in.
How do I do character sheets
You can use google Gemini to make one with a random name and background or you can the main d&d character sheet and fill in
dont use ai for dnd lol
Dndbeyond is a good place to make one
apart from the obvious issues with ai its also just wrong very often
You choose a species, stats, class and background, then start filling in backstory and details.
https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dnd/br-2024/creating-a-character
should help
Avoid using ai when you start dnd, severely cripples your experience, especially when it gets the information wrong
Mine worked well with traits and everything but I had to tell it what I needed with random generations of items and background
AI for me never got anything completely right, cuz it struggles to discern between 2014, 2024 and homebrew
I wouldn’t know. Never played just allowed it to craft my character
yeah theres a lot of information on the internet about dnd and the majority of it is either homebrew or just wrong lol
beyond is a great place to start for character creation
Also for a hobby largely based on creativity, I don't see the reason to have AI do that part
I want actual players and their fun ideas, not a "middleman" between me and a machine
Frankly, how did you determine that an AI has given you a good character sheet if you’ve never played?
Welcome!
Because it gave a backstory and decent starter stats. Had fears and things that show towards my backstory and I genuinely enjoyed my personal character layout. It’s you so you kinda decide that as long as it works for the dm
Don't use gen AI at all. It has literally no place in any creative spaces. It being outright wrong and unable to determine what's correct is only a small portion why. Plus, you won't learn at all if you just have a dumb LLM do all the work for you
The DM will typically decide what official stat method you use, not a random array that an AI makes up
I sent it to the wrong section but the whole sheet is in the other section. Character discussion
Good! How are you and do you have any D&D questions?
Ah yep it reads as AI and is wrong is several places 😅
Also be aware that AI generated content is not allowed on this server
Ai generated is allowed anywhere they can’t control what ai does. From other sheets I’ve seen it’s fine.
Also reading it over, it mentions nothing of your character. In fact it details the "nemesis" a lot more, which is generally gonna be the DM's job, not the players, especially for the specifics
There’s more but I didn’t post that
No like, explicitly posting content known to be AI is not allowed on the server by server rules
Too much info not needed
It is not. As part of the server rules you agreed to when joining AI content is not allowed to be shared.
It is also not built according to the rules. Just because an AI says it is fine and others have done crazier sheets does not mean it is built correctly
The statistics, nemesis system, and inventory are incorrect at just a quick glance
-# where is this sheet btw
Also this has nothing to do about fearing AI, this is just about basic server compliance that everyone else adheres to
You can search their messages using the discord toolbar, it’s not that far up
Unless a moderator has already removed it
Seems so, not surprised considering it’s not allowed
Was the first thing I posted its text just because ai layed it out doesn’t mean it’s incorrect. My character had his village burned. He fears fire. He carries two axes and a dagger made from dragon flame he found on the outskirts after losing everything
This is why I won't ever be posting my art in this server, though I'd love to share.
Anyhow, newbies, please do not ever use AI slop. You won't learn how to create your character, you won't learn how the game works, it doesn't know the difference between what's official and what's not, it doesn't understand the game or the rules.. And it's not allowed in here to begin with.
I'll even help make the character sheet if someone needs help and is considering using slop to do it
Genuine question. How far does that apply? Would posting a character backstory, where i made up all the major points, but asked chatgpt to help 'fluff' it up be considered against the rules?
Yes, I believe
Yes. Anything where youve used AI to generate it
Lemme see the quote
Specific rules: #1133105533553999995 message
Ah bet me to it
If it is allowed please link to the rules page where starting with that array is allowed and starting with a magic dagger is included as part of your starting equipment
That seems a bit strict no? Maybe someone isint a novel writer and cant pay someone to help make the backstory stand out.
You know what I’m leaving anyway ain’t no wonder people avoid this server. It’s for fun! Not to be critiqued so much you hate playing
We actually have #character-discussion to get user feedback and help on that exact issue!
We’re just telling ya smt you said isn’t allowed on the server, but anywho. Good day!
Most people aren't novel writers, and your backstory doesn't need to "stand out"
Backstory gives the start of your journey, and isn't meant to be an entire novel
In fact lot of DMs specifically don't want an entire several page backstory, since your adventure is supposed to happen in the game 😛
I agree, it isn’t a critique to be told about server rules, but I digress
I didnt mean novel as in, 100 page essay. I meant it as the quality of writing per say
And yeah you could just ask advice for your backstory in #character-discussion from people directly, rather than first going to an AI and then people
Skip the useless step in between
-# tbf you need, like, three sentences for a backstory
I agree, in fact a common piece of advice is to try summarizing your backstory into 3 efficient sentences for quick reference
Ah jinx nugget
You still don't have to have any real experience in writing to make a backstory. You can literally just do a handful of bullet points
At the end of the day a backstory doesn’t have to read like a good piece of literature. It can, and it’s fun to for some, but it’s certainly not a requirement.
I've actually done bullet points before, the main beats and things that were important, then later on I filled it out into a little paragraph or two
Heck, any backstory an AI is gonna give you is just gonna be something anyone could come up with, but fluffed up with waaay more and unnecessary words to be ""fancy""
Just curious. Im pretty neutral in reagrds to AI in general 🤷♂️
Just a bunch of stolen, fluffy nonsense
I don’t particularly hate AI, I just find it doesn’t work all too well for DnD
-# also has this left newcomer topics?
you asked for backstory thats the backstory
Not a fan in general, but yeah especially for a creative hobby like this, use of it just seems especially counter productive
We’re bridging over to #character-discussion , but I think this still technically counts as a newbie question. Just of the narrative variety instead of the mechanical variety
Moving on. Please note the server rules and follow them.
Now moving on, does anyone have any newbie questions?
As a newbie I find the hardest thing is to find a party ahahaha everything is taken quickly ! Or not my energy
Yeah that’s a common issue
Finding a group is often considered the final boss of D&D lol
Yeaaah, it can take a bit to find a good group. Lot of players, not a lot of DMs
you can check out #find-a-game for information on how to find a group online. To make a post, type the appropriate command in any chat channel. There’s also DnD beyond forums, reddit or roll 20.
Or keeping a group together
Ehhhh scheduling is also up there
Best thing to do is keep trying, and if someone says you have to pay for art in order to get in.. Block and report, it's a scam
unfortunately, that happened to me. I didnt pay for anything cause i had a feeling it was a scam but it was kinda disheartening cause i wanted to play dnd with some peeps
Hey so i’m just starting dnd does anyone know where i can go to kinda learn a lot of the lore.
Well, "the lore" isn't set in stone. There's lore for multiple different settings, but also some DMs may run their own setting, or a third party setting, or change aspects of a setting.
The Forgotten Realms wiki is a good start. Here: https://forgottenrealms.fandom.com/wiki/Faerûn
But yeah, that.
Ok thanks for helping me i am just kinda trying to figure out what I’m getting into cause i know that it isn’t all the same but i just wanted to learn about it.
There's also #dnd-lore if you have any further questions that can't be answered by the wiki
Thanks
But yeah, look into what setting you want to learn about first. If you're coming off Baldur's Gate (or most other d&d media), Forgotten Realms is that
i think i suck at this T-T ive made a chracter but ive got no idea how to do stats or anything
where do you even go to make an official character
i didnt i js drew a character and gave them lore that kinda followed online guidelines i saw
You can use an official character tool like D&DBeyond (https://www.dndbeyond.com/characters), use a PDF sheet and fill it out (PDF character sheet: https://media.dndbeyond.com/compendium-images/free-rules/ph/character-sheet.pdf), or use a notecard and write down what you need to know your character's abilities, features, inventory, etc.

Feel free to ask specific questions as you run into them
For instance a common questions is, "How do I generate my stats?"
?tag new abilities
^ And that's how you would generate your abilities per the rules.
i feel like im being flamed in a language i dont speak lol
Dw we’re just trying to help
Has your DM (if you have one) specified a stat generation method?
i dont have a game yet im just preparing a character in case i ever get to join a game
Also, do you know what version of the game you’re playing/want to play?
Generally I recommend waiting until you have a game to make a character so that they fit well into the game, but having practice or personal characters isn’t a bad thing. Though I’d only use them if they fit very well with the campaign.
theres different version of dnd...
ill try to see if i can join a game
D&D has been around for 50+ years now - we're on the 5th edition now, with the latest updates being called D&D 5.5
Yup! We’re on 5.5e rn, but overall I’d recommend you learn 5e (2014 rules) or 5.5e (2024 rules) as they’re the most popular
5.5e (2024) is a lot easier to get into from my experience
2014 and 2024 rules are similar enough that I’d recommend reading the first two chapters of the free basic rules while you do that
(It also has more consistent keywording and capitalized terms)
Free basic D&D rules: https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dnd/free-rules
If you’re feeling overwhelmed, I recommend just learning how to make a character, basic ability checks, modifiers, core gameplay, classes and combat.
Heyyo, I'm someone interested in getting into d&d just that i have 0 ball knowledge of anything, can anyone walk me through 🙏
I have seen contents but 0 idea of how to play nor how things work
(I'm someone who learns from experience not really from reading...)
Well... you're more likely to get that experience by at least reading the first 2 chapters of the free basic rules that cover the core game mechanics and how to make a character.

Welcome to the server. Let us know if you have questions!
Well I do have one I'm stuck on Mobile for a while will that be a problem at all? Like is it PC only
It depends on what platforms your group uses. Not every website plays well on mobile. That said, you can definitely play via mobile!
Okay good

welcome. Let us know if you have any questions
btw how to play and what i need to know and how long it one setion take?
i see this now
check out the bot above for the basics.
thx
sessions tend to be 2-4 hours but can vary WILDLY depending on your group
that is very help full
thx
i reality all you really need i ms word and d&d dice
The things you need for D&D:
- A group (and a way to communicate with them)
- The rules (https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dnd/br-2024)
- Dice (or other means of randomly generating numbers, which can be digital)
- A way to track character info (usually a character sheet) (https://www.dndbeyond.com/resources/1779-d-d-character-sheets)
- An adventure (whether one prewritten or one the DM makes up)
Everything else is optional.
Hello all, I’m new here though I’ve played some tabletop games before; is it possible to have two DM’s? I have ideas for worldbuilding and stories and quests but I can’t wrap my head around the math of it all and the memorisation of all the necessary stats to consider for each action
It's possible, but it can be tricky to coordinate!
If it’s possible, that’s all I need to hear! Thank you!
Hey everyone!!! My names Ashlie, Iv never played before and my friend group is planning on starting up a game, all of us are very new to this game, our DM is a first time dm (he’s doing a great job so far) we haven’t played yet still working out the mechanics. Iv built a character but idk honestly what I’m even doing😭. Maybe one of u kind people can go over my character & ideas with me to see if it’s right 🥹. I’d appreciate it
#character-discussion is a great place for ppl to help go over character stuff
Come over to the character channel and tell us what you have in mind.
Hey! I’m looking to play some D&D. I’ve been playing for about 6 years, so I know the system pretty well (just mostly in my native language).
I want to challenge myself and try playing in English — my level in English is around intermediate B1, but I’m happy to learn as I go.
Just looking for a chill group and a fun game

I wouldn't worry about time zones - rather see if the time specified is a time that you can play. Some groups have folks all over the world playing together - because some folks work different shifts and are available to play at the time regardless of the DM's timezone.
I’ve had a game here with a Canadian, a Croatian and an Australian
Also some games are play by post (e.g. sending text-based messages in Discord or even via online forum) where the game is playe more asynchronously.
Oh ok
I'm more comfortable with speaking than writing, so I'm looking for a VC game.
But thx
Hey im very new to dnd, recently played my first game although being interrested for a long time
I would really appriciate some general tips and tricks.
My biggest tip is to focus on having fun - and helping everyone else at the table also have fun.
This includes being able to speak up if things are going in Not Fun directions and being able to communicate your expecatations and boundaries whil also respecting other;s expectations and boundaries.
Taking notes can also be helpful - it shows that you're engaged and that helps the game run smoother when folks aren't always asking the DM to repeat what just happened.
Learning how your character features work is also very helpful.

Hello! I am moving to the Burlington VT area and am wondering if there are any groups to join?
I’d suggest checking the game and book stores in that area. Also the local public libraries might have D&D groups.
Hello! I'm "new" to everything dnd so far my only experience is bg3(I'm aware isn't the greatest reference for the tabletop) and i just recently started a homebrew campaign and I'm still struggling to understand the different kinds of throws(saving and etc) so im asking if anyone knows any videos explaining such cause personally I'd like to not have sooo many questions during play(even though ive been told its fine) and feel free to DM links to videos soo to not flood in here
I played 2nd, 3rd, 3.5.. but stayed away from 4th, and dont know much about 5th, but seen alot of cool artificer builds lately on youtube.
?tag new dc
Difficulty Class (DC)
The target number for an ability check or a saving throw is called a Difficulty Class (DC). If the total of the d20 and its modifiers equals or exceeds the DC, it succeeds. Otherwise, it fails. The more difficult the task, the higher its DC.
The DC is determined by the effect that causes it or by the DM. For example, if a spell forces you to make a save, the DC is determined by the caster’s spellcasting ability and Proficiency Bonus. The Typical Difficulty Classes table presents a range of possible DCs.
thats a small portion of it. I was hoping it had more. I will wait to see what StarOfTheLight says because they are usually very wise
Theres only really 2 kinds of saving throws, the regular kind and death saving throws. The regular ones are a kind of d20 test, so the basic formula for rolling one is:
- 1d20 + relevant ability modifier + proficiency bonus (if proficient.
The ability modifier you add will be dependent on the kind of saving throw. Thankfully it’s pretty explicit which one you need. If, say, you are a Rogue and the DM calls for a Dex save, you will roll 1d20 + your dexterity modifier + your proficiency bonus (since Rogues are proficient in Dex saves)
Death saving throws are a bit unique in that they’re only relevant when you drop to 0 hit points. At the beginning of your turn if you have 0 hit points you’ll roll a death save, which is essentially just rolling 1d20 without additional modifiers (unless you have something that says otherwise).
- If you roll 10 or above you get 1 success. 9 or below you get 1 failure. If you get 3 successes before 3 failures you stabilize and awaken after 1d4 hours. If you get 3 failures before 3 successes your character dies.
- If you roll a 20 you instantly recover 1 HP and awaken
- If you roll a nat 1 that counts for 2 failures.
There’s some extra rules about death saves that aren’t directly involved with rolling but I just wanted to include the basics that pertain specifically to rolling the saves
The other checks are usually for skills which have specific skills they'd fall under that relate back to one of the 6 main attributes. They'd roll the D20 and add the attribute modifier for the skill the DM asks for and IF they are proficient (trained) in that skill, they add their proficiency modifier. So a stealth check for the rogue to hide in ambush would be D20+dex modifier + proficiency. but a history check for the unschooled (not proficient) rogue would only be D20 plus his intelligence modifier (as examples).
ok yall literally touched everything i question when it comes up in my sessions lol so thank you o7 and also do those also change as level ups happen as well cause i always get confused with the prof mods so again thanks for clearing it up
the proficiency modifier goes up by one for everyone every few levels. That is the only way that it goes up. Attributes can go up through feats every four levels and / or magic items. So the checks can get easier over time
hey folks!
Was looking for a bit of clarification if anyone could offer some to a complete DnD novice 🙂
"Communicate your expectations up front. The more clearly you let people know what you do (and don't) want from your game, the easier it will be to find the right match."
What are some common things people run into? Are we talking general subjects that make players uncomfortable, or certain storyline topics, or general player interaction?
Has anyone got specifics?
18+ topics, trauma that might trigger someone, the lethality of a game, how much homebrew it has, how much it sticks to RAW, use of romance or flirting, to name some
I am new and new and looking for some advice on my character build. Should I drop it here or in #character-discussion ?
Either work, #character-discussion can prolly go more in depth
Here is fine, character discussion also works but is usually more in depth
btw do i need anny item as a new player or i can use wetside for the item like dices?
You don’t need anything no
oh thx
Well except you, yourself, and some sort of imagination
The rest can be printed or solved if you have a device (to put a character sheet)
ohhhhh use my imagination sure i can do thx
hello im new, what to do here?

Yeah here's a bunch of basic information you should probably read. To join a game #find-a-game has instructions for you!
Play by post? There might be an advertisement for that somewhere in #looking-for-players although it's very untypical since it's a ttrpg usually reliant on rolling dice
oh ok. So the only way to play is pretty much vc?
Well it's at least everyone playing together on some platform most of the time. If you just can't talk you could simply ask beforehand if it's fine for you to type in session or use some Text to speech feature
oh thank you
if I cant talk, can i just type and do I have to be active all the time the campaign is going on?
This is more something you should ask your DM, typically campaigns are at predetermined times for example every Saturday at 3:30 PM
thank you. To join, just dm the guy right?
Depends on the DM, I'd read the advertisements carefully but usually yeah
ok thanks
how do i use the tools?
like VTT? owlbear rodeo? etc
do you recommed me just dive in?
Ginny Di's "How to play D&D — Absolute beginner's guide" is pretty solid!
Your ability to dive in is kinda dependent on either finding a DM and a group, or being willing to DM yourself!
ok thanks. I dont wanna DM, i wanna play...
For sure! Then yeah, probably check out #looking-for-players, or make a looking for DM post in #looking-for-dm, or if you're down for paid options, there's #paid-looking-for-game as well! Keep in mind as well that some of those have certain age limits where you must be a certain age in order to join!
thank you so much!
Of course!
Ty!
what if im in a different time zone
Finding a game with a time that works for you is one of the hardest parts of DnD. You've just gotta keep looking for one that plays when you're free!
ok thanks
While easier to schedule within similar timezones, timezones are not the be all of schedules. For example My groups timezones are usually GMT/UTC: -8,-7,-5 ,0, +1, +2
Always worth checking some of the more common timezones that appear and noting the time difference- just because they're 8 hours ahead won't mean your schedules can't work.
thanks
Then you'll want to check out our #find-a-game channel!
Already submitted 🙂
guys how does Tayr the paladin have +3 strength?
where does he get the extra +!
+1?
Who is Tayr the paladin?
oh so in 2024 the stat boosts are not based on your class but your backround?
I didnt know that
They've never been based on class in fifth edition. Previously (2014 rules) they were tied to species.
Hi, I'm pretty new to DnD and haven't done a full campaign. Is it possible for me to join someone?

i make a cheater in D&D beyound i make ranger dregon borm blue and Player’s Handbook
Soldier what do i name him i jes think about somthing Taiyo?
hpw to calculate initiative?
Your initiative bonus is your Dexterity modifier, unless you have a feature to add another number to it.
Sounds like a good name!
i need one thing before taiyo
google said it was a d20 plus ur dexterity modifier lol
It sounded so wrong
Yes, you roll a d20 and add your Dex bonus. I mean you record it on your character sheet as your Dex bonus.
Oh I knew that
I thought the stat on the sheet was d20 + dex
No need to reply directly when someone is participating in the conversation. Thanks.
You've made the full character sheet?
i make this and what next?
i make it in D&D beyound

Read the "Playing the Game" section of the rules linked above if you haven't already.
At least the first chapter and anything specific to your character.
hello i am new at this stuff
thx
Welcome. Check out the info linked in the bot post a few messages up, and let us know if you have specific questions!
sry to ask what is the first chaapter mean sry
tysm and sry for annoying you
You're not annoying anyone, the whole point of this channel is to help newcomers like yourself
oh thx annyway
we just have automatic stuff set up so that we can easily give people the same information.
so what are some popular class combos of 5 player classes
Hi everyone how has y’all’s day been?
This channel is for assistance with game basics. Your question sounds like it's better for #dnd-discussion. (I can't imagine any character with 5 classes will be worth using, unless you meant something else.)
I meant 5 different players playing 5 different classes
The classic quartet is fighter, wizard, rogue, and cleric. For a fifth, I'd probably go with something versatile: druid, bard, or paladin.
Tbh dnd doesn’t really need a "combo" of classes in a party, the only like thing that can be a lil sucky is if you have two players playing the exact same class AND subclass
heelo
Btw there’s a fake Discord account going around into servers impersonating me and I don’t know if they are in this Discord server, but the recent one goes by thewomengetter. If it is in this Discord server, please ban the fake Discord account because the Discord account likes to spread hateful stuff and does it to get people to hate me. These trolls have been doing this since 2021 of September and I wish they would stop.
Hi
I am new here
How has your day been?
Welcome. Take a look at the pinned info and let us know if you have questions!
good wau
That’s good, my day has been good and thanks for asking.
how can I play here
Games aren't held on the server. You can find a group (read #find-a-game) and iyou'll have to organize together from there.
okay
Hello all I am new to dungeons and dragons I have tried to find a few games with no luck would any DMs be willing to let me sit at their table and learn and enjoy a vast world full of knowledge and trials I’d prefer a once weekly game but I’d be open to a one shot as well

Read #find-a-game for directions on using the server's Looking for Game/Group channels. Soliciting games outside of the proper channels is off-topic and subject to moderation.
Hey folks! If one of your Discord accounts is compromised, work with Discord to get it back. Posting about it here in the discussion channels is off-topic. If you need moderation support regarding hacked accounts/scsmmers/spammers or questions about server rules or moderation, go to #moderator-support and ask for a private thread.
Also we strongly recommend not accepting unsolicited friend requests or direct messages (but don’t block Dyno as that’s the bot we use to send formal moderation reminders and warnings).
And now back to D&D!
can someone explain to me the instances in which passive perception is used in a game? even uncommon ones?
sorry, not just perception, all of the passive senses?
also, what are some of the more common complicated situations for players to encounter and how should a DM be expected to handle said situations? I haven't played enough to know how outside of basic combat and character interactions and I am DMing for a group of newcomers.
sorry i know thats a lot
two seperate questions
Hey folks, I'm with a friend of mine on discord, is someone willing to explain to us the basics to play? It should be really fun since our english accent is funny, if so dm me, thanks in advance! 🙂
Hi everyone , i'm new too, i'd like to know how to start to play

A common use of passive perception is if an enemy is trying to be stealthy, someone with a high enough passive perception would notice them despite not actively searching for them. This is a quick overview of passive abilities: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=emHtNULI6c0
I don't know how to answer your second question since there are so many situations it's hard to generalize. For DM topics, we have #dm-discussion.
it took me way too long to figure out what number to use for passive skill scores. i must have poured over the 5e PHB for a good long while before i finally found a small line buried in there. 10 + skill + applicable proficiency.
thank youuu
so you can have passive perception, passive insight, passive investigation, passive intimidation, passive etc. although passive perception and passive insight and maybe passive investigation are usually the only time its used
i always deem that "investigation" is active and not passive, like you actively are trying to look or get information or figure things out. its really hard to do that in a passive way. but passive insight can certainly be the vibes you get from someone or your surroundings. and you can passively notice things with perception.
passive intimidation is like never used. but i'd argue it makes some sense. you can give off a vibe that others shouldn't mess with you. but that takes player agency away
gotcha thank you very much
how is carrying capacity of a character calculated
strength score plus mulitplied by something. i'd really have to look it up. based on size, i looked it up
talk with your GM to find out if coin mass counts towards your carrying capacity.
in this premade character sheet, how is sundar able to wear chainmail if his strength is only 3. chainmail is 55 pounds
His strength isn't 3. His strength modifier is. The strength score is 16.
its the score instead of the modifier
so the modifier is what gets added to dice rolls. and the modifier is based on the score itself. this is one of the rare instances where the score itself is used instead of the modifier
ohhhh
so he can carry 240 pounds?
so Sundar can lift/carry 240 lbs. and he can also push/pull 480 lbs.
and that sheet absolutely bugs my eyes. gah, the yellow
why would anyone make a yellow sheet like that?
sorry. i shouldn't judge. different people have different likes
Because that's how it was with AD&D. Throwback vibes. But anyway.
...so why were the sheets yellow back then?
"a wizard did it."
i get it, things just happen
Ancient anti-piracy measure.
that actually makes sense. would photocopiers at the time not see the proper contrast between yellow and black?
i just did an image search. man, those old yellow sheets are so hard on the eyes.
Varies, but yeah, it wasn't just for the look.
i gotta be honest, had i been presented with those yellow sheets, i don't think i would have continued this game just based on how much it bothers my eyes. especially if it were in dim lighting
but i do get it and understand
glad the yellow sheets are completely gone now.
How can I sent photos ?
i think there's an art channel on here
most of the channels don't allow images or gifs
I don't see any art channel.
#dnd-arts-and-crafts - you maybe don't have it checked in id:browse.
Make sure it is in fact arts and or crafts though
It is.
