Ohh okay
Interesting
i listen to heavy metal and dubstep too much lol i found a new dubstep song and i cant stop listening to it :D
My music taste is all over the place but usually I find a good song and then overplay it until it's just alright to me:<
I'm got sucked into 80s/90s Japanese pop songs and now I can't stop listening to it.
same :c
So true, as a music student, I've listened to so much music genres
Btw is it true that I can play a gnome in DND?
yes
Hello I just got into dnd today
Very true
And they are very funny
DND might be the greatest thing ever made
Hello
its not even one of the races that aint in the players handbook like tabaxi or goliath
I have made a character if you want I can explain him
hello
sure
It's in the 2014 one
Can I theoretically play a stand up comedian bard gnome who lives in a larger than average mushroom?
Ah I misunderstood the statement, deepest apologies
ABSOLUTELY
His name is Clyde Baronsmith an assassin that goes by the name Shadow
nah its all good
ooh cool
I will think of the consequences of this information
Very nice
That name sounds cool af
Dew it Palpatine noises
there is no assassin class however if you play a rogue there is an assassin subclass
in 2014 anyway
Unfortunately I don't know comedy
He experienced a failed heist left his closest ally brutally wounded and he couldn't bring himself to put himself out of his misery so he left to start a new life as an assassin for hire
he is a rouge
You don't need to know comedy, sometimes the jokes will naturally flow out. I'm horribly at jokes, great at puns so I usually get groans and the occasional laughter anyways 😂 .
He also has a dog named Interceptor
doggo :D
great start so far
Btw this is heavily inspired by a character from ff6
To be honest I thought the background would be the hardest thing to make
Oh, fantastic
whats ff6?
Final Fantasy 6
ohh
great game
never played any of the final fantasy games
I love them so much
Its kinda like dnd but with characters already made for you
Half my characters are based off characters from the series. Had a tiefling fighter tha was based off Clive Rosfield from FFXVI
How much can a dwarf drink before getting drunk? My dwarf loooooves beer
Now that I have my character concept and motivation what do I need next?
its 3 plus con and past that you need a dc 10 con check and if you fail it increases by 5 but thats my campaign i can’t remember if thats the official rules
thats really it
Build the sheet, mechanics and rules etc
oh yeah sheet lol
People to play with
I will look into it
Hii
What class? If it's anything from the standard phb then you easily use DnD beyond
hello
I was thinking bard
You should get a good start on Beyond with the free plan. You'll probably have 1 subclass option if that's ok with you. But at least everything else is handled automatically. Things like I would have never known about my background, class feats, traits etc. @stable pulsar
Well you said you wanted to be a comedian, so it also depends on how far you wish to take this character
The comedian isn't a necessary part
Well that's fine, but the free option is College of Lore bard
College of Lore??
They tend to learn a lot of pieces of the world, and tell it through songs and stories. Like a storyteller really
They get a bunch of proficiences in skills
Well I know the lyrics to invisible by Duran Duran so I guess I can sing
And that's generally their whole stick, is being really good at lots of stuff, and being the multi-tool of the party
Big Boss?
Wut?
Nothing, Metal Gear jokes
Maybe for a different time people probably shouldn't rely on me
Basically college of Lore is playing a jack of all trades.
Ohh okay I understand
barbarians are good for front liners, damage sponges. bards are support, (including buffing and healing party members, debuffing enemies) also occasionally combat. clerics are good front liners occasionally and healers.
druids are good for healing and sometimes combat. fighters are good damage sponges, front liners and sometimes ranged. monks are good dps and scouts. paladins are good damage sponges, dps, front liners and healers. rogues are good dps and scouts. sorcerers are good damage sponges if you play em right, and dps. warlocks, idk havent really looked at them. wizards are good at buffing allies and debuffing enemies.
Big list
did i get all the classes?
and gunslinger but i havent looked at them too much so i didnt list them
I wouldn't consider sorcerers to be damage sponges.. their HP and AC aren't typically very high (in comparison to fighters, rogues, rangers, etc)
What weapons and equipment can a rouge use?
True since they share the same hit die as Wizards
So a d6
What does monks mean with being good scouts?
They move REALLY Fast
https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dnd/br-2024/character-classes#Rogue - this shows you their proficiencies
Are monks an easy class?
i said if you play em right. they arent damage sponges normally, but i played a hill dwarf sorcerer with +4 con and the tough feat he got 150 something hp by 15th level
It depends, you hit stuff with your hands, all you have to learn is stuff about Ki
Ki in general is what make Monks great. It allows them to punch multiple times, they can grab arrows mid-air, slow their fall from great heights, and some subclasses have some really good options in terms of utility or flavour
way of open hand can one shot anything including tarrasque by 17th level if it fails a con save
My favourite subclass is the Drunken Master, but that's because I love Rock Lee and Jackie Chan and how they showed off the druken fist style of martial arts
if not, guess what 10d10 of necrotic damage :D
So I can jump off of a cliff, ran at something at mach 5 and hit that something 500 times?
WELLLLLLLLLLLL
im currently playing a dwarf who needs to get his drunken shi together and do something in his life (hes a drunken monk)
they move really fast but not that fast
That is the joke about monks, they have a lot of movement, they hit a lot of times, and they just do stuff that is cool kung-fu stuff
i actually made a monk that moves up to 550 feet a turn and is level 16 in monk so he wont die immediately either
They are basically hollywood martial art movie stars
so not mach 5. but really fast if you multiclass correctly
And if you play Tabaxi
yep, their a tabaxi
So I can do kungfu fighting as fast as lighting?
Yeah, you do kung-fu fighting
havent played them yet but i hope to chase down a running dragon with them one day :D
Really, really hard
👋
🤘
So I gotta learn what Ki is and get the basics in check and I should be good if I play monk?
Yeah
Get the basics, understand what you need to play monk, and that is it
Martial classes are easier to play then caster classes
Just asking where can I play dnd online?
also 550 feet is 62.5 mph or 100.58 kph hehe
roll20, dnd beyond are two big places you can play online
Can you play on discord?
It's possible. Though games aren't played here
You can go to #looking-for-dm or #looking-for-players to find a DM if you want to. Every DM has their own preferred way of playing online, so I would check with them.
i think you can connect roll20 to discord, im not sure
my party uses discord for communication but not for the bonk monster sort of playing for that we use roll20
And DMs are very few and far so it could take a while for a post to appear, so please have patience, I wish you the best of luck
I mainly use Discord
Roll20 is mainly used as my visual reference guide
But for the most part, I just share screen.
Btw what are the 1 session campaigns like?
Are you referring to one-shots or session 1's
Some person said that I should start with a campaign that lasts 1 session and is very quick
So a one-shot
thats a one shot
A one-shot lasts much longer generally than an average session, since it's only one session. What that person was probably recommending is that you play a one-shot to understand how combat, and the system works, before moving onto campaigns which last a lot longer due to being broken into multiple sessions.
Ohh okay but who would I do it with?
Aright thanks
Preferably with a DM, however some experienced players could also run a small thing just to show you combat and how dice rolls work.
So if you find a DM, before a campaign session, ask if they can run a small thing to help you understand what you are doing.
like your a dm and you want to make a one shot?
A small dungeon could work
Litter a few traps, a few monsters, and a reward
So basic but it's tried and true
Yeah like I want a small game to learn to better describe the environment and things like that
maybe a boss that the reward is essential/helps out with defeating it
Exactly
so are you just looking for one shot ideas
But a dungeon is a fantastic way to start off
Another good way is to write
Like a literal dungeon?
Yeah, a deep underground dungeon where adventurers to roam around, fight monsters and get loot
Perhaps, both sides of dnd sound fun
no so typically a dungeon in dnd is a place, maybe a cave, building, underground building etc full of monsters loot and traps
Oh I was thinking like an elden ring catacomb
You can also find premade oneshots if you want to practice but don't want to write your own
That counts as a dungeon
sure a catacomb would work
Very good advice as well
found some AWESOME mushroom aesthetic in skyrim
cant tell me mushrooms dont make great aesthetic
However I do not some so you'll have to look around
Mushrooms are great
And not because I really like Zuggtmoy
insert image of heart eyes and tom and jerry style heart beat
wizard hires you to clean out his tower. forgets to mention that what needed to be cleaning was monsters. fortunately, you are always armed. unfortunately you now have to fight through a tower full of monsters
It's Fantastic
its a oneshot idea i heard abt a year ago its not an eldin ring catacomb but its the best i got lol
Four who is it fantastic?
Say that again
Btw how should loot be hidden? The only things I can come up with is inside a jelly monster or in a chest
yoo
loot inside a gelatinous cube thats like one of the most iconic dungeon monsters
Put it on monsters, chests, hidden storage areas, guarded by monsters
Good old jelly
a hallway. in the hallway is a bunch of sleeping monsters with a chest at the end of the hallway.
Chest is fine. Secret treasure rooms work. Monster hoards. Cabinets.
I would buy the dnd Lego set just for the gelatinous cube
succeed the stealth check, or murder the monsters?
i am buying the dnd lego set the moment i have enough money where i can not care abt how im spending it a little
and also the moment when i have a place to put it :/
Yeah, I've got too much stuff to buy cool things again
😔
So many minis
And books
I could run a library from my room
the moment i can get an apartment i can stuff all my cool shi in the spare bedroom
Same
But it's so hard to find a place with good rent😭
I ain't even old enough to get an apartment I just have a small room
heh still got another 4 years before i figure i can live on my own still got awhile to go :/
Good luck with it
Yeah, but also the area I'm going to college is expensive
And it's really far to drive as well
from your house you mean?
Yeah, so like getting an apartment near it is impossible
jeez
ya thats gonna be sooo expensive the gas prices alone
your lucky you didnt have to drive there while they went up during covid
So yeah, going to have to wait a while.
That sounds horrible where I am college is free
The lowest we pay is 3000 euro a year, our best college is anywhere from 9000 to 13000 euro a year
Goddamn
whoof i think over in america it can get up to 100,000 dollars (87,000 euros)
Btw what works as a small boss I don't think a dragon is fair for a short story
ehhh
DEFINITELY NOT
the youngest type is good for 5th level and under
DAMN I guess I'm very very lucky
But typically, dragons are saved for more experienced players, due to the amount of damage a dragon can deal
WoTC is notorious for thinking otherwise
how so
I can't remember exactly, but I was watching some D&D, and they were fighting a wyrmling or something, and the entire party got smoked in seconds
dang
when i used to watch mrbeast before i realized he was pretty corrupt, he did a thing where he payed for peoples college and one person said 10,000 and mrbeast said “dang you couldve said 100,000 and i wouldve payed it”
And this was a WoTC made adventure
interesting
WoTC are bad at balancing their encounters, especially if the players have me as a DM
My brain isn't very braining as of right now so all the bosses I can think of are a dragon, a lich and a very very big gelatinous cube
Cause Lady Luck favours me boldly.
hrmm
It honestly depends on what level you are going for
yea
I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND you start at the lower levels
Because combat becomes a mess at higher levels
How much do you need to do to level up
Depends if you are doing milestone or XP
it can be milestone or xp
Oh yeah I remember that
but it's generally assumed that during a one-shot, your characters won't level up.
yea
So a lich sounds fair
No...
Unless you are running high level characters
But that's complicated
Because liches are "funny haha I cast fireball and you all die" type of monsters
yea
Like Liches are considered to be the big evil guy that many use in campaigns
And Campaigns usually end up to levels above 10
which can make surviving encounters with liches and dragons easier, but not safe.
you can look at a pre-written game like https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dnd/itsi/intro-to-stormwreck-isle - I believe it's still free on D&D Beyond
then you don't have to build everything\
Btw what do you do if either your bbeg one shots the party or gets one Shot as a theoretical
We call that a TPK or total party kill. In most cases, if it's early in the campaign, you make new characters and keep going on as normal. However, if the characters die during a one-shot, consider it over.
Also your BBEG is a balacing act, because you don't want it to be something like an Ancient Red Dragon, but you also don't want it to be a goblin.
Usually the CR or Challenge Rating is a good way to kinda eyeball it
yea
A lich is CR 21
which means it will be very hard for low-level adventures and high-level adventurers
What level is cr 21 good for?
now, this aint the official way to determine if a party can handle it, but if the party is lower than the cr rating they probably cant
Generally, you'd want your characters to be around the 17th+ range
Just because, that's when the party can kinda match the Lich in terms of power
Now this isn't always the case
Tier 3 characters can fight liches. But specific DM scaling advice may be better for #dm-discussion
if you are a new DM and new to D&D in general, I would recommend not running a one shot that has high level characters. it's a lot more for you to have to take on and understand.
yea bc higher level, more features more complicated etc
Along with liches and Dragons are there other like "high level" bosses?
And also spells become novels in text
7th level and below isnt ever too complicated
Demon Lords, Archdukes of Hell
tarrasque
Which is a glorified dmg sponge but still hits like a truck
I'm pretty sure I know that one
Giants are pretty powerful
ooh
Module specific BBEGs are also really powerful
Great idea
purple worm
remorhaze
thanks
Aka that worm from Dune
oh are they gargantuan?
That sounds very cool
They are very, very big
ah
so yes gargantuan
So Shai hulud, liches and Dragons
only interaction ive had with purple worms is naddpod facing one and that was awhile ago that i listened to that episode
so i don’t remember much
Drow Matron Mothers are also pretty powerful
A what mother?:3
drow are evil elves
well not evil but theyve been shunned by society and most are bc thats the easy route
Basically the drows are elves that were driven into the Underdark, and became really evil and is a matriarch (slay, ig?) society who generally don't like other races, or the males of their own species
They follow Lolth, the evil goddess of Spiders and deceit
Though not all drow are evil, and other wish to gather allies to fight agains Lolth.
Why the males?
But Matron Mother generally rule one of the great houses of Menzoberrazen (idk how to spell it?)
Cause they're follow a spider goddess? And females spiders eat their mates whether they are finished. (Idk, please ask someone who more's knowledgeable or look it up?)
I just assume it cuz they follow Lolth, so they kinda act like spiders would
So they don't like males
And they are generally seen as second-class citizens
Okay so elves who live underground(?) that follow an evil spider goddess and they really don't like men?
Basically the sum of it
Good for them
It is so bloody late for me 😭
Slay ig?
Slay queens
Same it's 6 am
America?
no
Canada?
ye
UK?
Btw what's that rainbow dragon next to your name?
Oh it's the pride symbol
Oh that's nice
It is
I would love one with the bi one, it would look nice
Just cause I like the colours
I would really love a white and blue one for no particular biasy or reason 🇫🇮
but ye i dont wanna talk abt politics politics is boring
Is there Forgotten realms politics?
I'm voting for Tiamat
Same
hmmm thats gonna screw over the world
Next ruler of Waterdeep
its ✨gay✨
Cool 😎
also represents the rest of the lgbtqia+ community
cause otherwise, there would be...so many logos
heh
Do I need to be gay to have it? It looks cool
nah man i aint gay
I don't have it cause I like the other colours more.
I didn't find how to get it
I'll think if I change it from my please help I'm new one
Btw what are like round shaped one eyed Mike Wazowski looking creatures in dnd
whos this mike wazowski character
oh him
havent watched that movie in a billion years
hrmm whats the name of the monster?
Omg
Me neither but I found a very pretty creature in a cage and idk what it is I'm trying to find the name
is this in the monster manual or smth
It's locked in Vecna's fungeon in DBD and it's pretty big
How big?
I think someone called it a beholder
Bigger than humans
Uh...
OH
Yeah that's right
SPECTATORS
That makes so much more sense
I thought it was a nothic
Though spectators have more than one eye
i vaguely remember them being green in the monster manual
They have eye stalks as well
In the game it has one giant eye
and their less powerful beholders basically so it fits
They have one big eye, but they also have tiny little eyes, kinda like medusa's hair
it should have 1 giant eye, 4 others attached to the main body on stalks kinda like a snail, and it should be floating
In the game it's locked behind a gate and you can't see much of it
It's probably a spectator
id say their 4th-8th level monsters so if your in that range your not screwed
Yeah
though I'd go with the high range and not the low range
like 7-8 and not four
otherwise those beams are gonna cook
Btw is the false hydra an actual thing?
It's not an official monster
Yeah it's a homebrew thing, great for horror themed campaigns
Are actual hydras official?
yes, they are a few that exist. The source book of Mythic Odyesses of Theroes has a hydra. And there are a few you could find I'm sure.
Could a hydra beat a red dragon?
Someone @ me
Would you rather fight a hydra sized red dragon or 3 red dragon sized hydras these are important questions
@red cliff
hi
Hello
how to play? :3c

a 3 red dragon size hydras
What type of Dragon is the strongest aren't there like different colors?
wow where were you at
Out of the chromatic dragons, Ancient Red Dragons
Out of the metallic, it is the Ancient Gold Dragon
Are metallic dragons just robots?
No their scales are metallic in colour and texture
Basically the Chromatic dragons are evil and follow Tiamat. The metallic dragons follow Bahamut, and are generally good.
Hello!
Uh, i dont sure where i should ask this question... so i will ask it here
Sooo
How do you guys making homebrew races and classes?
Im mostly interested in races
Like
How to choose how much hp homebrew race should have, how strong they should hit etc.
So if it looks metallic it's somewhat friendly unless you do something to anger it?
Try #homebrew for discussing homebrew (and see #channel-guide to see all our many channels)
Exactly. Usually metallic dragons are somewhat friendly. Silver dragons love to talk, and are very chatty. To the point that they won't let people leave until they engage in conversation.
So you can be held hostage by a dragon because you weren't social enough?
Yeah
Happened to me
That is probably the dumbest funny thing I've ever heard
Welcome to D&D
Where dumb is the norm and the norm is dumb
Ok,sorry i was just thinking that homebrew more for "hey guys look at my homebrew, did it good"
Thanks for relocating me to right channel!
what channel do i go to for looking for a game?
how do i get access to send messages it says im not allowed?
I would recommend asking for a moderator
Also usually, if you are asking about a game in the #looking-for-players channel, there is a small chat that you can enter to notify the DM of your interest. Hopes this helps.
ty
Hey
So i am new to D&D but still enthusiastic and want to learn
What would be the best way to know the lore
To know the lore of D&D, it's probably a good idea to check out #dnd-lore however the content is not linear and very messy so consume at your own interest. Otherwise, buy the sourcebooks or consume media that relates to anything you are interested in.
Also the lore depends complete on what world you are interested in, whether it's Eberron, Greyhawk, Faerun, or Wildemount etc. So please research stuff like that before deciding to go down the rabbit hole.
hewwo guys, im pretty new in the d&d stuff, never played a run, but i got interesed on it after see some games i played are based on dnd runs and a video i saw of MagicTheNoah, someoen can intruduce me into it?
i did roleplay before pretty complex but i feel this more complicated lol
i tried learn with people of my language but i got paniqued lool
What do you need help with in general?
Also are you planning on playing as a player or DM, cause my advice will shift dramatically based on that.
But you should ask around for help when it comes to anything that you are interested in.
Whether it's lore, character creation, how to find a DM, and other things along that line.
I want be a player, idk abt much how the play works and abt character creation its horrid complex for my 2 neurons brain
some spanihs people wanted me teach how to do simple character then hop into a "oneshot"
tbh my brain just understanded blablablableblebleblublublu (explorers are shit, bard shit and barbarian easy)
Ohh didn't know that
i gotta research about it
Yeah it's a very diverse subject, because in some worlds the gods that reside over the mortal realms don't exist. Dragonlance is a popular setting that has zero gods after a point.
I've been there plenty of times. The first thing you'd want to do is decide what you're going to play. There are two main groups of classes, martial classes and caster classes. Martial classes are classes that rarely rely on magic to get the job done, while casters just mainly magic to do a lot of things.
also just decided to quit because i really feel into panic and doing much questions fr
im that kind of person its pretty "slow"
Well it's your choice, but if you ever want to pick it up again, I would recommend watching a few videos on the subject. There are plenty of helpful videos that can get you started.
So how does one find people to play DND with since I never played it before because I was a loner
Lowkey always wanted to be a wizard

So I’m rather new, but when it comes to trying to join a campaign should I already have a character ready before I sign up? Or will I have to make one for that specific campaign depending on the dm’s own specifications?
I’m guessing it depends, but I’d like to be as prepared as possible before asking to participate in anyone’s campaigns
Yeah it depends. Doesn't hurt to have an idea for a character, or a sheet ready, but be prepared to alter the character or change it if it does not fit the DMs setting or rules they use, such as if they don't allow specific races, or use only one specific ability score generation method, for example
Got it, thank you very much!
I have literally no friends to play a DnD game...
hi there
New here and got a question
What stats should I put for a level 1 human fighter with a sorcerer background
Fighter usually wants high Strength, but if you use a ranged or finesse weapon Dexterity can work. If you plan on using spells that have attack rolls or cause a target to make a saving throw, investing in your spellcasting ability would help.
One question though: sorcerer is a class, so could you explain what you mean by background here?
Well my character was cast out of his kingdom after an affair with the princess and was sent to a deadly village where he befriended the townsfolk and learned magic
Which implies high carisma
Just to check, is this your first time making a D&D character?
Sorry if this is an annoying question to anyone but could someone point me in the direction of finding an online campaign to join? I’ve been in 2 campaigns so far and I think I’ve really gotten a good grasp on the system to a point where I could probably DM a small campaign with my family for example, I want to find a DM who wants to make a campaign though for people to join as players
Just know that just because you say your character learned magic in their background, doesn't automatically gove you any magic unless a feature you have says so, such as magic initiate feat as a variant human, or taking the magic based fighter class at 3rd level

Wish there was a DND game in the levels of witcher 3 or dragon age
I'm sure folk have given them a go with D&D. There's also official TTRPG adaptations of both those settings available.
Im trying to make a character who uses scythe and uses magic to fight close combat...
But there is no scythe in weapons list....
And tbh all the other stuff in the character creation confuses me 😅
The weapons listed are all fairly 'basic' fantasy tropes, but because they are so basic you can reflavor them a great deal. Reflavoring is what we call when you change the narrative of something without changing the underlying mechanics.
For example, you could take the greatsword stats, but otherwise treat it as a scythe whenever you're roleplaying. Check that with your DM first, but I doubt many will say no.
Like what. I've already played baldurs gate 3 so I'm out of rpg games to play with
Any two-handed slashing weapon would do as a scythe.
Yeah
The "Playing the game" section and the rules glossary contain many of the common terms and explanations:
https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dnd/br-2024/rules-glossary
https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dnd/br-2024/playing-the-game
I've got a couple of links for you in #non-dnd-topics .
Like, I have seen DnD games with not so many fancy terms...
Simple terms we see in shows...
I mean by players won't need to worry much...
Surely a DM needs to track these... that's why these are there.
But a game with simple adventure will be a lot of fun...
Well, we can try and narrow things down for you.
Does your character prefer to wear proper armour, or go light or unarmoured?
Light armour nothing too strong...
Like a robe and hood with magic' resistance
I think you might enjoy warlock (https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dnd/br-2024/character-classes#Warlock) using the Pact of the Blade. Take Sage as your background for the mage armor spell and make sure your Charisma and Dexterity are your highest ability scores.
Best practice is to start with a starting character. They're level one, they're at the beginning of their journey of adventure.
If you keep the idea, that they were exiled for an affair with a lady of high standing and discovered their magical potential while living among folk in their new home, you could take Fighter as your class and perhaps the Sage background to give you a smattering of magic to play with.
Ok thank you for the advice
Help, i don't even know what i should do to start to play

Fighter

it's going to be a long journey...
And me and my friends are already lost
I dont even have friends lol, i'm alone and lost in the journey
Well, Im only lost as Im researching everything for them...so they don't leave early...
A member of the community, iamrazorwing, has also put together a good unofficial guide to finding groups. I recommend to give it a look: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1rjwuod1lNBM5n4X_TH2ZoqTULv53jWaVMXtrzKVboms/edit?tab=t.0

might help you pick a character class. That's like your main job, it describes the kind of things your character can do well.
I've got a lot of free time if y'all wanted to pepper me with questions. I've got a good amount of experience on both sides of the screen.
Is it possible to play in a group chat instead of irl or in a call?
Yes.
I don’t see why not
Yes, the format is usually referred to as pbp or play by post
There are chat sites for this very purposes. They used to be more numerous. But you can find discord servers that do this as well
hi guys i have a request
i have at least 15+ years experience with dnd 3.0 and 3.5. im willing to share my experience and help where i can concerning that system. all i ask is for help with 5e. i just started playing and im trying to run a campaign for my gf and a couple buddies
If you have that much experience with 3/3.5, you should have no problem with 5.
true. im just looking for advice or tips. ive seen the differences in the systems
Tip: from what I've heard, if you run LMoP, careful in the beginning because it can be quite lethal to players
LMoP?
A pre written module. Lost Mines of Phandelver? I think it is. I may have gotten that wrong
ahh.
I've never played 3e, but from what I've heard 5e is a good bit easier.
i was thinking of Dragon heist with my buddies and using the Solo player toolbox to run a game for my gf
and yes from what ive seen thus far its alot easier
I think the biggest differences are that stats mostly cap at 20, bab is now proficiency bonus and applies to everything
Well, as long as you're proficient in it
Otherwise I think it pretty much operates the same. D20 plus modifiers
I can vouch for Dragon Heist, although it needs a bit of remixing to bring out the best in it.
ok
Oh, right. Instead of "hey, take a plus 2 for high ground" or "minus 2 for such and such" it's advantage and disadvantage. Roll 2d20 and take the best/worst
i just forget stuff sometimes like when to add inspiration or what gives advantage or disadvantage
tbh i dont know much about inspiration yet
Flanking will give advantage instead of a bonus to hit. And rule of cool with inspiration. If they did something really cool, give them a point. I think they can only have 1 though? You can house rule that if you want. And I think using an inspiration point grants advantage/disadvantage... Don't quote me on that
gotcha
That's how I do it anyways
It works for my group
Otherwise a lot of things that grant advantage or disadvantage usually say as much like if it's a spell or condition
got it thanks
No problem. Hope it helped. You got this
it really does. i look forward to running 5e
If you're familiar with the basics, the glossary in the Free Rules will help cover a lot of the details.
thanks Mr Smith
another oddball question, but its for the mods or admins
If i wanted to invite people from here to my server would i be allowed to or is it against the rules.
and vice versa
Put it in #looking-for-community
Yea, build aticket there for how you want to dm and the games you'll run
According to the Rulebook im reading (D&D 5E Players Handbook) the Halfling has a DEX Bonus of +2, but the DnD Beyond Character Sheet doesn't take that into account apparently? Its not bad, but i would have a better value that way...
Depends on whether or not you selected a legacy class or not. Only legacy has racial bonuses. In the 2024 (current) rules, the bonus is still there, but comes from your background instead.
How do I make a character sheet it so confusing to me
First, pick a class.
https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dnd/br-2024/character-classes
No no I know that it's like how to chose the dex strength and stuff and then add the modifiers
Try the standard array: 15, 14, 13, 12, 10, and 8.
What class have you picked?
Hello! I am thinking about ranger role to pick. Is it beginner friendly role?
Hello
ranger is a good al around class to learn with yes
its a half caster so not too focused on spells but enough to try out. and then good weapon fighting to have a reliable tool when you're out of spells
My character is supposed to hold a scythe (he is a magic fighter...and I choose warlock)
What weapon should I choose again? Like exactly what? (As I don't see scythe option)
i usually reflavor a glaive ino a scythe
Ok thanks
What rules are u playing with (2024 or 2014)
Just wondering because of the warlock thing
Tbh Im new and completely clueless
2024, Free Rules. Warlocks get to Pact as their starting invocation.
Hi, I'm new here
And someone accepted me in their campaign...and I can't join in with my character....so more confused....
It's grayed out...
I just joined my local town DnD community, they set up a campaign for 4 newbie players including me, playing tomorrow, I hope I'll learn fast
Same here

Hello 👋
it's good to see a community filled with active supportive people
Sweet mitcho!!
On D&D Beyond? If you go to Manage, Character Settings, make it public, then hit Prev and you can get a sharing link.
They sent me a link,
So what now?
Joining through a link, make sure you're logged into Beyond on your browser first.
So the 2014 rules are the older ones which alot of ppl use because they are used to it
In them the best way to play the character you want is to get xandifers gide to everything which cost money (because u need the hexblade subclass from it)
The 2024 rules came out at the end of last year and u can just take the pact of the blade to do basicly the same thing
(the entire point is to roll to hit with your charisma which will b ur highest stat)
Would you guys recommend to start more 2014 or 2024?
Im on mobile...I downloaded the app
Ohhh I see ty ty
I'm not really familiar with the app, but try this in your browser: https://www.dndbeyond.com/characters
So I have to make my character public first in order to join through the link...
Oke ty ty
Other people can only view, they can't make any changes. Like so: https://www.dndbeyond.com/characters/117710760/eSxuBl
How do I join the campaign exactly?
They sent me a link,
When I enter it,
It asks me pick a character...but the only character I have is grayed out...I can't select it...and enter the campaign
If you share your sheet we can check if it's completed.
you can enter their campaign thenmake a new chracter that is just your old one
they might be missign bookss or you did somehing outside the campaigns set rules
How do I share it?
Could I get help with, playing… there is things I need to learn
#learn-to-play and check the pinned messages here for useful resources to help get you started.
Feel free to ask specific questions as you run into things.
But if there's a different way to do it through the app, someone else will have to lend a hand.
Yes
I can't attach any file here
I have pdf of my character
Send the URL to the website character sheet
Uh that will list all of our own characters - it needs to be the URL to your character
If you go to Manage, Character Settings, make it public, then hit Prev and you can get a sharing link.
The sheet can be accessed
You can't enter?
I see that your character is already part of a campaign. That would explain why they can't enter another campaign.
Huh,
You can check here which campaigns you're already part of: https://www.dndbeyond.com/my-campaigns
Thanks, It says Im in the campaign now...
Hey there, I'm new here only for a few weeks, but I notice I cannot neither post in looking for dm or looking for players channel, why so?
Users cannot post in those channels. If you want to advertise a game, you have to use the server's bot commands to fill out a form, then that form will automatically generate a post in that channel for you. The full instructions for how to do so are in the #find-a-game channel
thank you
I have to redo most my stuff ~.~
why's that?
ah. Fair enough. Just out of curiosity, did you go through the basic rules first, or just jump straight into character creation?
Both at the same time
Apart from the stats there isn't much u can mess up
Apart from missunderstanding the rules
Stats
Like con dex int and stuff like that
What class where u makeing it for
Druid, I have everything but I need adjustments so imma reread and see where I messed up
Try the standard array: 15, 14, 13, 12, 10, and 8. Druids like high Wisdom and Constitution.
Yes yes I know ^v^
Imma take some headache pills and continue when the pain gets better
For stats ur probably best with
Wis highest
Dex second
At least +2 con
Low str
Other ones don't really matter
It's also a super complex class (access to all spells and able to change them out.... and also wild shape)
Wish I had all my features but I’m only level one so human form for now
U will probably get to level 2 in like the first session
Ppl don't really like staying in low levels for that long
I haven’t ever been in a session or campaign but I’ll worry about that after
That's fairly common, especially for campaigns that have expirienced players. But if someone is a total beginner, I typically recommend that they start at as low of a level as possible. Preferably level 1
For Magical Fighter
What stats are best?
My charisma and wis is highest
Like my DM said we all should start at lvl 1
When you say “magical fighter” what do you mean exactly? Are you playing as an Eldritch Knight, or something else?
He's playing a warlock, based on a previous message
?tag new warlock
Warlock
Cast spells derived from occult knowledge
Warlocks quest for knowledge that lies hidden in the fabric of the multiverse. They often begin their search for magical power by delving into tomes of forbidden lore, dabbling in invocations meant to attract the power of extraplanar beings, or seeking places of power where the influence of these beings can be felt. In no time, each Warlock is drawn into a binding pact with a powerful patron. Drawing on the ancient knowledge of beings such as angels, archfey, demons, devils, hags, and alien entities of the Far Realm, Warlocks piece together arcane secrets to bolster their own power.
-# Suggested Standard Array assignment
Str. 8
Dex. 14
Con. 13
Int. 12
Wis. 10
Cha. 15
Likes: Occult lore
Complexity: High
Starting HP: 8 + Con. modifier
This should help with explaining what stats are most important for a warlock
-# To make things a little more complicated, his previous message implied he wanted to reflavor a Heavy slashing weapon as a scythe
The above, but in detail:
Charisma you want the most of. It's for spellcasting and hitting with, as a warlock with the pact of the blade. Very important.
Dexterity helps you avoid hits, Constitution helps you stay up when you are hit and keep concentration spells running.
Everything else is up to you.
Thanks
How important is the Charisma stat exactly? I cannot really judge by the Player's Handbook only..
It depends on class, really,
Though, its probably one of the more useful stats in the game, I wouldn't really recommend investing in it unless you're something that can afford it..
Halfling Monk, currently having following Setup (Point Buy):
10 Str
10 Int
17 Dex
14 Wis
14 Con
10 Char
(The Dex should be 19, but DnD Beyond did not take the Halfling Bonus into account.)
Yeah, Monks REALLY need their ability score increases for dex and wisdom, Charisma isn't really a monk thing so I wouldn't worry about it
So, could i reduce my Char to 8 to max Wis?
Yeah
Or would that be stoobid?
No, its absolutely fine to have a dump stat
9/10 times charisma is my go-to dump stat for my characters lol
Well, now:
Str 10
Int 10
Dex 17 (technically 19)
Wis 15
Con 15
Cha 8
the halfling no longer gives that bonus as per 2024 rules
and if you are using 2014 rules then the bonus comes from halfling and not from you backgrond
Oh, my Handbook says it does
If you are using the 2024 option you may need to add the species bonus manually on the abilities page
I mean, it does not exactly matter if its 17 or 19, it's just a small detail i noticed.
hey guys, I'm sorta brand new at this, I've only got one other character, but I have a new one with a cool backstory I wanna run by people who know more about this than me
it should never be above 17 at level 1
its mathmatically impossible without breaking the rules in some way. if your dm allows it the go ahead im just saying my piece
15 is highest point buy at 1, that is true. So 17 would be level one with halfling +2
Well, i tripple checked my character now (via book and this discord), so i think it's correct now entirely.
i think you were trying to mix what your book says and what dnd beyond was doing. essentially mixing rule sets
I take that Consti 14 is aight for a monk?
con14 is fine
Well, i guess it is what it is.
Half-elf Warlock
Str-11
Dex-13
Con-12
Int-15
Wis-8
Charisma-17
This good?
did you roll dice for these stats?
Idk actually no
I think I didn't
also, int is unnecessary on a warlock
Did you use the Point Spend?
Yes, array something
int is basically useless on any class that isnt wizard or artificer
Then it should be fine? Aslong as they did not go beyond the 27 Point Mark
thats not standard array even accounting for lineage stats
Mine? It isn't standard?
Oh...huh
In order to have stats of a certain value you need to spend points (27 in total) or roll it out.
15
14
13
12
10
8
+2 in a stat
+1 in a stat
Yes...I selected them
you have 8 wis yes
In character sheet
I have
1....+2
2....+1
1.....-1
1.....+3
your base stats are
str 10
dex 13
con 12
int 14
wis 8
cha 15
before your racial bonuses correct?
i see the issue
+2 from your race is added to the big number. your modifieris irrelevant at the moment
Yes
okay cool
noww from your background (assuming custom lineage) you can add 2 points into a stat of your choice and 1 point into a different stat of your choice
Also I choose the pact of blade...
Yes
are you in 2014 or 2024 rules
if you're in 2024 rules you dont get a subclass until levbel 3
Actually, I think both were selected...but my DM is offline currently...Im doing everything according to him
Level 1
He said we should start as lvl 1
that didnt answer the question
what rule set are you following. 2014 or 2024
is your stats from your background or your race basically
Is that answer can be found in my character sheet?
Probably 2024
if its 2024. which is what im assuming based on what ive seen so far, your subclass (opact of the blade) doesnt come until level 3
yes its confusing, it was a standardizing change made for the new version
Oh,
And the level system....we level up as the adventure progresses?
correct
you level up either when you dm says so or when you gain enough experience points
either or. not both
why not both
cuz the rules say either or
hm
thats stupid
you should be able to pass important milestones and level up but also gain xp
hi!
DM is god afterall
Jadad, apologies, but you're incorrect here.
Pact of the Blade isn't a subclass. You get it at level 1 as a warlock.
hexblade doesnt exist in 2024 im aware
hi
It's an Eldritch Invocation option.
yea my bad, saw blade assumed hexblade
Theres also an unearthed arcana so, Hexblade is most likely being reprinted one day
(Hexblade is still compatible with 2024 Warlock anyway)
regardless, pact magic doesnt give you +1 in a stat
thats also true
The system is set up as either one or the other. D&D isn't so much about trying to power level your character ie. The party decides to go out and kill boars for four sessions to "grind xp". It doesn't really work like that unless the dm allows it to, which, I have never seen a dm do.
Its more satisfying to earn those levels. Fights can be tough.
Indeed. In DnD, you don't really have many ways to 'level up faster'.
Im here in DnD cause...we get adventure with our imagination with our friends....
After coming....so many fancy terms wow
Don't worry. It can be a little overwhelming to learn an RPG for the first time. Take it slow
I always thought I will really enjoy DnD...and I still think that way....I will soon play in a campaign...
Let's see how that goes...
Hello people I’m new to D&D and haven’t played before. I'm here to learn to about anything u have to offer.
here i’ll learn you something: dont rob a dragon horde while the dragon is still alive. it dont go over well.
gotta bonk the dragon till it dead first
No clue what ur talking about never played a game or even heard of this i had a friend recommend me bc he called me a nerd so if you mind explaining 😭

A good first place to start is the free basic rules. You've not heard of the game so watching the introductory videos is also a good idea. 🙂
And feel free to ask questions here if you have any
I've heard of the game my buddy has a board he uses and a bunch of characters so I thought it was cool he told me most dnd is online so I went to discord but ok 👍
Lots of people play online and there's channels in the server #looking-for-players #looking-for-community where DMs post their games. You can also check out 3rd party sites like Roll20 for online games.
But tons still play in person, it really depends on the game and players
Kinda like me... never played before...but Ik I will enjoy DnD...haha
I feel like i would be a good story teller aren't they dungeon masters?
Yes
"They call me Jason the Dungeon Master, mostly because 'Overlord of Confusion and Mild Panic didn’t fit on the character sheet."
LOL
Lol, I really like Fantasy...and always wanted to go on an adventure...
And I realised DnD is the best for that experience...
is there any server that helps me find some bg3 players??
#non-dnd-topics could be a good space to ask
There's also #baldurs-gate-3-spoilers if you want to talk about the game with other players
all good, thank you
Is there anything I should know before using the Al-qadim land of fate source book?
From what I could find it is a 2nd edition book, so you would best ask in #dnd-elder-editions
Is anyone hosting a campaign?

Thanks
You can follow the above instructions to find groups online
Greetings all. Trying to make my first character and was wondering if there is any books or options that are not OK to use? And should I start my character at level 1?
It'll be up to the DM you play with for what options are and aren't allowed. Since you're not in a game yet, you're making a character for practice, so in a way, it doesn't matter what you pick; it just matters that you understand the process of making a character!
Thanks, I've played and made characters before. Just not in an online/discord setting before
It's really not meaningfully different, in my opinion.
I can certainly try!
ok thansk so much
im trying to dm and everything on dnd beyond seems so complacated
like how do i invite people and stuff
the only thing ive done is made my character and now im stuck
Are all these questions about the DnD Beyond interface? If so, the #ddb-support is the better channel.
ok
But really quickly... Why do you have a character as the DM? The DM doesn't have player characters.
i know i wont need one now but i just made one to be prepared
Mysterious. Hopefully the other channel helps with your website woes!
https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dnd/br-2024/the-basics#HowtoRunaSession
The basic rules here have a section on how to run encounters as a DM.
When they do anything that isn't garenteed to work
There is a list of what each of the categories are meant to be for
If you have access to it see if someone who runs a game in your area would let you shadow them so you can learn more about when you should ask your players to roll and when you should roll.
Its how I learned to Dm but I know not everyone has access to that resource.
is there any reason why whenever i finally make a somewhat of a plan to go join somebodies game i am just ghosted immediately
like so many times and just now in this server are they like "oh yeah its fine if you join, everyone dm me if you want to join"
and then radio silence. its pmo
Finding a game can be especially hard as a player, simply because the Player to DM ratio is something like 100:1 or 200:1.
When I posted a DM advertisement a few years back, I received 42 messages in the first 10 hours.
It's certainly rude for the DM in question to not get back to you, but just like with online dating, the only thing you can do is just keep searching.
oh if its like dating no wonder i cant find a game
are they just repulsed by the fact that ive never played a dnd game before
because even if they say that its beginner friendly the moment i mention that it seems like thats the ghosting reason
Plenty of DMs accept new players. Some might prefer more experienced players, but I think the majority of DMs don't mind.
yes but even the ones who establish its new player friendly they still do it
As a quick reminder, stating your exact age is against this server's rules
But being under 18 can certainly make it harder as well. I don't know the exact statistics, but I suspect most adult DMs might not be comfortable with players under 18.
well either way its been weeks since i first tried to go out on r/lfg and roll20 and shit and yet absolutely nothing every single time
i dont want to wait 2 years to play a game
i wont care or think about it at all by then
I will say the ratio of DMs to players has narrowed as DnD has soared in popularity recently
Buuuut, it is still a struggle for non-adult, non-US based time zone, non-male players to find games that suit them
Well, all you can do is keep up the effort. In the meantime, take the opportunity to familiarize yourself with the Basic Rules. The more you know, the more incentive a DM has to picking you!
Likewise, making a practice character can help you get a good idea of how character creation works. That'll mean that you're more prepared for when you do get into a group.
ive made several practice characters by now
and i wont call myself any expert, i did make cheat sheets for myself, but i do understand the rules i believe
Fair enough! Then I wish you good luck.
it doesnt feel like thats gonna do much
Hello, I just joined today, trying to find a party to play with

Hey
Welcome!
If you're new to D&D check out #learn-to-play and the pinned messages here in this channel
Feel free to ask specific questions as you run into them
does anyone have any advice for dming despite never playing a game before
im tired of waiting days upon days to find any game for under 18s so id just rather do this
Check in with the fine folks in #dm-discussion!
My short list would be - start with a premade adventure, try to learn the basics, breathe, drink water, remember you're in charge but don't be mean about it, and it's okay not to know everything
i mean my biggest issue is more just my anxiety doing it since its probably not going to be fun for either the players or especiall me
This is great advice. I've been playing for years and I still mess stuff up or forget rules. The most important thing IMO is you're playing a game and the point of playing games is to have fun. Try and make sure everyone (including you the DM) is having fun overall.
see i doubt me playing dm is going to be fun though
Being a DM can be lots of fun! You help set the scene and present challenges for your player's characters to overcome and guide the story forward. I find it very creatively rewarding.
I'd offer this question: If you think playing will be fun, why do you think DMing won't be?
because im the one who makes all the decisions for the players, and if i mess something up that messes it up for everyone else. despite the fact id call myself more creative/imaginative, so i dont think id have an issue with that, i feel like i have a tough time knowing if its fun for the players. also id be completely on the spot too.
when playing id imagine i was just kind of a more boring character because i really dont want to be on the spot.
not everyone enjoys DMing, and not everyone enjoys only controlling one PC. You kinda have to try it out to find out what you like and dont like.
So how would I be able to join a dnd party?
That's one reason I recommend starting with a premade adventure. It cuts down on the decisions you have to make
Did you give a read of the instructions linked under your question the first time you asked?
Oh sorry
do i have to purchase anything more for a premade adventure? at least one of the basic ones
The following items on D&D Beyond can be claimed at no cost.
All you really need is the adventure and dice imo, and there are dice rollers online. Some adventures assume you'll also have the Monster Manual, but many of those statblocks are in the free rules iirc
And there are adventures that include all the statblocks too
Has anyone made a legend of Zelda dnd campaign?
Very possible someone has. People have made lots supplemental materials from other content. Dungeon Masters Guild might be a good place to check.
Where is that
Thanks
actually all ive really gotten for advice online is to just wait years later until im 18 to do anything with dnd
i think ill just wait
D&D can absolutely be played if you’re under 18, it’s just a little harder to find a group.
If a group doesn’t explicitly state that it accepts players under 18 it’s always good to ask. Otherwise you can look at other resources such as school clubs, Adventurer’s League, or games run at local libraries or game stores
Of course, you could always gather your friends a make a group yourselves
nope
i have like 2 actual friends and neither care to play dnd
i also cant do really anything in personj
Hello, I have a question, it may be stupid, but I juat joined. Do you guys play DND here or do you just talk abou it? If you guys play, where can I find where to play, also can I just watch/listen because I am still learning?
Theres probably a reddit group for dnd under 18
youd think
i cant find anything besides one other under 18 player who ghosted me
#looking-for-community might have a u18 group
This is mainly a chat server where we discuss DnD but if you are looking for games head over to #looking-for-dm or #looking-for-players to find a game.
Alright, tysm!
No problem
only one i found has 100 people in it. now idk what that means but playing a game with 100 people or only some of them are selected
i really just want to find a beginner friendly game
i really didnt feel like it was going to be this tough
Its a community of 100
does that not mean that they play games there?
They do
that means i have to compete with 100 other people to be in someones game
its applying for roll20 all over again
Games are posted every day across many communities; finding a group is one of the most difficult parts of the game, but it’s not insurmountable, just takes time
it takes time that im tired of being taken
i dont know how many lfg posts i have to dm. do i have to dm 1000 and get ghosted by all of them so i can get the gold skin and actually be accepted into one
on reddit on roll 20 on here
do you mean the gold name?
im joking
oh lol
It just takes a lot of time sadly, there are less DMs than players by a massive margin, and by the time you could reply to some, a lot of people have gotten a head of you. It is really a game of patience and timing, but it will happen, just takes a bit for it to happen.
I’m assuming you’re looking for free groups. Since so many want to play and not invest in it, yer competing with the 100,000 people on here. I would bet that if you were willing to pay a small amount each session, it opportunities would open up significantly. I TOTALLY get if you can’t pay, just stating what I observed
RP question, one of my party is a Cleric of Kelemvor. I'm a Wizard specializing in Necromancy (we started using older player books) who is going to raise the dead to fight for him. How do you advise we handle the inevitable fallout between these two?
maybe its just because i know nothing but i feel like paying more money for this supposedly nearly free to play game with friends as someone whos never played a game is not a good idea
I agree it's to have fun 😂
Genuine question: can these two reconcile on this topic, or are they at odds with no room for compromise? If the latter, I might have second-guessed playing characters with such strong clashing convictions.
If you’re are playing with your local buddies, then yes paying is not normal. But note that EVERYONE has access to internet, it is a great option to assure commitment of players and dm . As many folks will spend 15-20 a week minimum for some form of entertainment like movies or bowling etc, why not for D&D?
It can be played with just you and your friends! One of you just needs to pick up the responsibility of being the dungeon master and you're off to the races
Because you can't get the others for free D&D you can
ik you wernt here but i cant do anything with friends or in person
Im down to start a free one with you if we can get others
are you fine with under 18s?
We really haven't addressed it, since I can't raise the dead yet. We were all given a players manual and made our characters in private, I had no idea he was a priest of Kelemvor until we had our first game.
hey could someone explain the graze property on weapons? to me and my dm it sounds like you can't miss with that mastery property on your weapon
It’s time to have a player to player with the DM too discussion before going any further. If its going to work cool if not, you will all have to decide who’s going to have to relent or both
Oof. Characters made in private is, to me, often a bad idea. I'd have a talk with the player and ask how this can proceed so that both of you have fun, whether it's through simmering hostility or something else.
Cool, thank you. New to the game. We all are.
Hey it’s totally cool and like razor said, somethings about a character can be secret but the fundamental aspects of character creating should be discussed with everyone before stuff is finalized to prevent such clashes. But if yak having fun then cool beans
Graze means even if u miss u still do a little bit of damage. Basically hey the weapon still touched the enemy enough to still break skin and draw a little blood
Thanks all. Sounds like a brief sit down is in order. We're all adults and friends.
To put it basic
Sort of. If you miss, you can still do your ability modifier as damage. As an example, if you miss with a +3 to strength on a longsword attack, you still do 3 damage
May give a cool story twist and character growth but not sure exactly how in this case lol
alright thanks, my dm thought it was weird because you would never hit
Don't forget the Free Rules: https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dnd/free-rules/equipment#Graze
I'm sure we can resolve it as players, just not as sure how to do so as characters I think is the main issue.
Sometimes having somewhat antagonistic characters can be fun. The trick tends to be making sure you're also having fun as players and not crossing the line into being antagonistic there as well. Also remembering that D&D is a group game and the party needs to work together even if they're griping at each other about methods
That is a good example of the kind of thing for which two players can collaborate to create interesting storytelling within the game, even if there is some conflict between the characters. You both, as players, can talk it out, see where the hard boundaries may be, and decide on a path so that your characters can move from conflict to some sort of compromise. Involve the DM as well, if it will help.
It's OK for characters to have conflict, as long as the players are working together towards the goal of an interesting story. Kind of like how pro wrestlers do it: there's a "heel" and a "face" for the benefit of the audience, but the reality is that both performers trust one another and are collaborating to tell an exciting story in-ring.
In a D&D game, the audience is the rest of the participants.
Maybe an acceptable compromise for the cleric of Kelemvor might be that you only raise monsters as undead, or remains from which the souls have already departed.
Thank you, that's an idea.

Or a highly knowledgeable Moderator!

I don't really understand how this server works fully, I just usually suggest things and that seems to work. There are more people who know more than me about why things are the way they are.
Hay I just joined this discord looking for an online group to play with
If you are a player you can head to #looking-for-players to check DM posts. If you are a DM looking to DM, create a post for #looking-for-players and tell them about what you want to do.
👍
Hey guys, I am new to DND and I’m trying to DM a campaign right now. And I have no idea how to create characters with classes can anyone help me out?
Are you looking to make player characters or Non-player characters?
Non-player characters
With non-player character you generally do not need to worry about creating full characters with classes. With NPCs, it's best to generally describe them, give them a role in your world and give them a stat block that can be found with source books.
Thank you that helped out so much
What is the difference between a thief and an assassin subclass for a rouge
The Monster Manual is a great place to start, and if you are using 5e there are even more supplement books to give you more statblocks
Flavour wise, one steals things the other kills people. But mechanically, the Assassin subclass is more leaned towards giving Rogue some punch when it comes to dealing damage.
ooh I like damage
While Thief is more geared towards being more sneaky and actually infiltrating and stealing stuff without being easily caught
I mean being a thief would be helpful just in case we need to steal a key from a guard or something like that
It's just depends on what you want as a character, do you want a James Bond style character who is more espionage and stealthy, or something more along the John Wick route, where you are more focused on getting the job done.
Ok I think I will go assassin
Read features, don't get hung up on names. Anyone can steal. Assassin's bonus damage depends on initiative, and their later features are about infiltration and using a false identity.
Is there a way I can post my “looking for dm” ad again? I posted 5 days back and didnt find one. Still have to wait 2 more days before i can post again?
Afraid you'll have to wait it out. You might try making a post in the LFG section of the D&D Beyond forums, though.
Figured. Just trying to find a game😂
would anyone next week be willing to let me dm a very small encounter, this would be my first time but i can't find any games so ill just run one my self lol
where do i find teamates and game masters
Visit #find-a-game for everything you need to start your search, including:
- Instructions for finding a game here on the server (including how to post in our #looking-for channels).
- Suggestions for finding a game outside of this server.
- Basic advice to help you in your hunt.
You can follow these instructions to find groups online
does that include a game master
Potentially - again please go read #find-a-game carefully to learn how to use our Looking For Game channels to find a group/game.
Another question
Should i use the SOLO TOOLBOX to get my players to Waterdeep for the beginning of the Campaign or should i start them in the city?
I can't help here but you could get answers on #1029833015423143957

Anything you're hung up on specifically?
Good talk lol
yike i just took a nap cause i didnt think anyone was gonna answer😭
honest;y, we are stuck on everything haha. We got like 50% of the characters completed but we are stuck on the more in depth stuff, and then with the roles, we have no idea when and what we should role. And then the hitpoints and the fighting are also screwing us over. We basically cant do anything!!! But we are trying to learn haha
Well. Ask a specific question and we can answer
Ok so first off, how should we go off for creating characters. Should we fully follow the rulebook or should we use online ones to start off?
Also, do you know if there are any videos I can watch to understand it more as a player and also any videos on becoming a better dm? I watched one or two of them but they didn't really help with anything
Follow the rulebook you have for character creation
Videos. Handbooker helper comes to mind but idk what else
How do the hitpoints work? I tried following them in the rulebook but I got stumped
Like, on level up? Or damage
both
Or character creation
all three haha
