Guh
Uh... let's see... - try ?tag new bg3 (Note to self: really need to get this documented)
hellooo im completely new to this ive just been looking around for now, what does homebrew mean?
?homebrew
The term homebrew can refer to a few things, but mostly means "unofficial rules," or rules that you won't find in an official D&D publication.
Homebrewing can be a Dungeon Master creating their own monster from scratch, writing their own adventure, or deciding to permit changes to existing rules to better fit their table or players' needs.
It's important to note that homebrew rules are only acceptable at non-organized tables, and homebrew rules cannot be used at Adventurers League tables. Always check with your DM on what homebrew is (or isn't) permitted at your table.
oooo okay ty!!
@short marsh did I do something wrong or am I chill?

There you go lol
Ahh thank you lol
Pay no mind to the strange blue creature who has no idea what they are doing lol
As a wizard I can change my spells correct
@short marsh all good my guy š
You have a bunch in your spellbook. You have to pick which ones you have prepared at the end of each long rest: https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dnd/free-rules/character-classes#Wizard
Oooh okay thank you
Like, you have a whole tool cupboard to pick from but only so many pockets to carry them with you.
Yeah 3 I believe, Iām new to this always talked about playing so now Iām committing so trying to learn so I donāt annoy anyone lol
It's four. You also have three cantrips on top of that.
https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dnd/free-rules/character-classes#WizardFeatures
Oh dang
Hi!
Brand new, just picked up a couple sets of dice and a players handbook. I want to play with my daughter and so far we've just been playing The two of us myself acting as a sort of a DM and a player at the same time but since I have no experience I'm just basing it very loosely on some of the gameplay I've watched and creating the world as we go. As you can imagine that is not going super great I mean it's fun but I feel a lot of pressure to choose what's happening and how it's happening and implement dice rolls and it's a lot of work. I just finally found d&d beyond and downloaded one of the free one shots but does anybody have any other suggestions
What would you say is your greatest challenge?
My advice is just let the players decide what happen and play along. For dice rolls just make the players do saving throws or allow them to choose what to roll for to engage with the environment.
Maybe I need to watch more gameplay. Am I doing it wrong if my daughter is the only player and I'm the DM
Like should I just acknowledge whatever she's saying as what's happening and have her throw dice for it you're saying
There is no right way as long as you and your daughter are having fun
Are single player campaigns actually a thing?
Iāve heard of people using randomizers
Idk it's not really a campaign we're just messing around in a pretend story you know
Open-Ended no goals in mind just exploring
I see
Duet play (one player and one DM) is definitely A Thing, but the game isn't designed for it, so folks have to make allowances for that.
I really have been playing with the sentiment that was just expressed that it's not wrong if you're having fun. So just to throw an element of chance into the game, throwing a d20 and having her throw one for outcomes
But I don't want to cheapen her experience by limiting us to whatever I'm thinking of or she's thinking of. I feel like playing around in a world where there are already pre-existing threats and actions etc might be fun
then a premade campaign may be your best bet
You can arrange the game however you like, but typically the DM is the narrator and referee, controlling everything but the player(s). The players decide what they want to do. If failure is possible/interesting, you ask them to roll to decide if they succeed, provided they hit the target number. Lather, rinse, repeat. You can definitely let your daughter be responsible for controlling the story in more overt ways, but that's not how most folks play. Nothing wrong with that, of course.
Somewhat unrelated question but how common are text only campaigns?
Asking because absolutely zero insulated rooms and extreme portuguese accent
They aren't that common from what I can see in the #looking-for-players chat
Play-by-post (PBP) games are rarer, but you can find them.
Besides this server, check the D&D Beyond forums, Role Gate, Gamers Plane, RPG Crossing, and Redditās r/pbp.
Other options include Myth Weavers, No Goblins Allowed, Ongoing Worlds, RolePlay onLine, Roleplayer Guild, Tavern Keeper, and The Tangled Web.
Otherwise, just search āPBPā or āplay by postā as keywords using Discord's Explore function!
There are also text to speech discord bots that can say what you are typing in voice chat
but it's a bit clunky
So no much option
I just linked you to several sites.
Thank you for that
Finding a game is hard period, never mind one with special parameters. But text-based games are out there. Being proactive and searching widely increases your chances, so good luck!
There's a place by me in Jersey that hosts games weekly it's sounding more like I'll check that out. Are there any groups that zoom meetings or Hangouts on video and play together?
Folks play D&D online in a variety of ways - Discord, Zoom, Slack, etc.

Hi, I'd like to reintroduce myself I'm Steve and still new, haven't played one campaign yet as I've been busy yet am willing to learn. I think I'd pick up things very quickly
Hi Steve!
Welcome! If you'd like somewhere to start, #learn-to-play as well as this channel's pins both have links to the Free Rules. I'd try making a practice character as you read through them since the first few chapters cover the essential rules of the game as well as character creation.
Yeah I've played video games that work with D&D Mechanics but they're pretty limited with actions you can take as the official D&D allows you to be creative with your wits haha. Would really like to test the waters. I've also been watching the BG3 VAs play a few campaigns.
Iv played in person D&D but I have not played online and I am new to the server I'm trying to figure out how to find a DM
question
which sorcerer subclass is like
PURE ENERGY?
Closest would be Wild Magic
Iām a new dm and Iāve made my own campaign and itās Ancient Greek themed I have made 24 gods and like 7 fallen gods. The storyās gonna be like 1 of the 4 higher up most powerful gods has been manipulated by the god of mischief (no donāt think of loki) and itās gonna be like a twist villian then thereās gonna be a dormant tarrasque later on in the story controlled by the god of mischief with the god of eternal flames who is a titanic and then like a epic fight
Have you read the instructions in #find-a-game ? Those tell you how to use this server to find a group. You can also look for online games via:
- Other TTRPG or unofficial D&D servers
- Social media groups (e.g. Facebook groups, Redditās r/lfg)
- TTRPG forums with lfg threads (e.g. D&DBeyond forums, roll20 forums)
Thoughts?
I canāt fit it all in there
Seems like a good concept so far, but be wary of planning grand and too far in advance. Players tend to throw wrenches in DMs plans, intentionally and unintentionally
Oh ok this is my second campaign with freinds so idk they probably will ones new and wants to play a murder hobo
You might want to post this in #dm-discussion or #dm-world-building
Well weāre getting into #dm-discussion territory since this is dm-ing advice instead of rules learning questions, but Iāll offer 2 points:
-
On the topic of the campaign plans, you generally want to create scenarios and challenges which allow for player agency over plot points that railroad. A good rule of thumb is to review what youāve written and see if you expect certain events to happen or expect players to do a certain thing. For example there may not be a twist villain if the players accidentally kill them.
-
On the topic of murder hoboing, decide if you and the table are ok with that behavior especially as it is normally extremely disruptive behavior. If not, work with the player to make a more agreeable character.
Hi guys, I've never played a game but I'm currently making a practice character on DND beyond that hopefully I might be able to bring into my first game when I'm ready. I'm making a Draconic sorcerer (white Dragon so I can make an Ice Sorcerer) but it seems I only get the option of Draconic if I select the 2014 sorcerer and not the 2024, is there a reason for that and does that matter? I'm planning to buy the 2024 rule book at the end of the month but I'm a bit confused on this
Hi there, new DM here, i was wondering something about tremorsense, one of my player will play a dwarve, and i wonder, what kind of information should i give him when he uses tremorsense, for example if a creature is not moving like a skeleton in a tomb but who will rise if someone opens it, should i tell him that there is a creature there?
24 get subclasses at lvl 3
Oh that simple š Thank you very much š
When i plan a larger type of campaign i tend to map out things i want to happen(some of ur plot points), but not how they happen. This way players feel like they have a lot of agency in how stuff happens, but it also allow you to reel them back in to a certain extent.
For folks wanting to discuss DM topics, please take a look at #dm-discussion and #dm-world-building

Anyways can anyone reccomend me a series of a campaign I can watch on YouTube

Welcome! The bot post above has some great resources to help you get started, including a link to the Free Rules. If you have any specific questions, feel free to ask them here. We're more than happy to help
There's a lot of advice out there, so go forth and absorbāYouTube, blogs, etc. Not all of it will be useful to you specifically, though, so don't feel like you have to follow all of the advice.
Hey so does dnd discord also include cyberpunk or is that it's own discord?
Cyberpunk the tabletop game?
Dungeons and Dragons is one kind of tabletop role playing game, and Cyberpunk is a different kind of tabletop role playing game. It's like how both Monopoly and Checkers are both different board games.
That is to say, this server is for DnD specifically.
Are you referring to the theme, TTRPG, or video game?
All of the above tbh
My response still stands, then
Many newcomers confuse the name "dungeons and dragons" to be a generic term that refers to any type of tabletop role playing game, but its not. D&D is one specific game, and cyberpunk is a completely different game. That would not be a topic covered in this server anywhere other than #non-dnd-topics.
Ok then is cyberpunk a different discord entirely?
yes
Google cyberpunk Discord, you'll find it.
Ok also who here can lead a party?

Ok thanks
Im really new to dnd and I wanted to ask and I havenāt read the new 5th edition is there lizard folk?
There are! They are in Monsters of the Multiverse
They havenāt been ported to 2024 yet, but you can just use the MoM stats and it should work out fine.
Thank you guys I appreciate it
The important thing to remember about the "new 5th edition" as you called it is that 2024 Players Handbook is only a replacement to the original players handbook. Its still considered to be a 5th edition book, which means the optional rules and character options in other 5th edition books still apply. Lizardfolk were not included in the 2024 Player's Handbook, but they are were in Monsters of the Multiverse, which means they are still a legal option for your character species, even though that book came out before the 2024 PHB was released
Thank you bro I appreciate it sorry I didnāt really understand I thought the new one was like a new 5th edition thanks for clearing it up tho man
A new fifth edition would be a sixth edition
But it's an easy mix-up to make! Lots of folks use a lot of different terminology for the updated rules, which can easily lead to confusion
Other than the 2024 players handbook, do I need more than just a d20 die? Or do I need 8,10, and 12 as well?
The game of D&D uses 6 different types of dice:
- d4
- d6
- d8
- d10 (also d100)
- d12
- d20
Having more than 1 of each can be helpful if you need to roll multiple for a single effect, like 2d20s for advantage, or 4d6 for sneak attack, but that's purely optional. You can roll the die over and over again to add up all the numbers, if you don't want to buy more. Also, if your DM allows it, digital dice are available online for free. You may not have to buy dice at all
I am checking a few locations locally to see if I can get my feet wet. I am unsure if I will like the game until I try :).
Wanted to view the rule book and attend a session.

Well, you can view the free rules online. They are listed in the Quick Links section of the bot post above
It took me a little while, but i did comb through the free rules. It is what led me to want to buy the 2024 book and a set of dice
iām not gonna lie, buying actual books is pretty useless. everything can be viewed online, and finding something in a book takes way longer then just googling it. you also gotta carry a heavy brick with you. i get that itās cool to have a physical item, but just keep in mind, everything about dnd can be found online.
It is out of preference. I much prefer physical copies of books. It has always been that way for me through college and through personal reading. I canāt grasp or remember books that I read digitally
thatās really fair.
Any mods awake ?

hi, im not exactly the newest to dnd but I was looking for a bit of help creating a character and either playing with some people or getting to know the game better, can anyone help?

You forgot the d8
thank you, much appreciated
Thanks! I knew 5 felt like a weird number, but I figured it was just because most people count the d100 or something
Hi. My son (4th grader) is interested in learning more about DnD but I haven't found any groups around our neighborhood yet. Any tips on how to get him oriented to the game and learn how to play? (I played decades ago, but its been so long I don't remember anything useful.)

Hiya! There are free dnd rules to learn from online any time, you can also find people to play with here #find-a-game
Would I be allowed to post my character sheet here so someone could double check it because I'm not 100% sure I've done it correctly.
You can but #character-discussion is the best place for sharing and discussing characters
right thx
Have you read #find-a-game ?
You can either direct message the poster or post in the thread attached to the posting
Yeah I seen that I tried direct messaging a dm but have no clue what to put
āIām interested in your game.ā And maybe any questions or stating any preferences/hard boundaries you have.
How possible would it be for me to play dnd if I have an inconsistent work schedule? Just realised I might not be able to actually play the game.
which dnd edition is recommended to learn the rules of first?
It only gives me a few selection options doesnāt let me type normally?
Vibe.
The current ruleset (5e) is the most popular and well supported, so I recommend that one:
https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dnd/free-rules
at best I may be doomed to one shots
ty!!
i dont need to know like all the monsters and stuff before playing right, just the basics?
As a player, or?
yes
from what i've heard it's actually better for u to learn monsters in gameplay
Just the basic rules that involve players. You should brush up on combat rules, but you aren't required to know every monster
okay good cause i cant study all that š
In the thread attached the the game posting or in direct messaging the poster? At any rate itās just sending a message the typical Discord way so any issues would be a Discord issue
Ahhh okay Iāll try
Hii
I got it it had the command thing thought thatās the only way I could message Thankyou noob

There's play-by-post (AKA text-based) games or west marches (explained here: https://www.secretsofthebarrowmaze.com/what-is-a-west-marches-campaign/). Those tend to work better for folks with varying schedules.
one-shots might work well , or play-by-post
How necessary is a rulebook for getting started in DnD? Im a total beginner but really interested. Im just not sure if I want to make the investment yet š
You can read the free rules to get started
You can get them on dndbeyond.com
If you wish for more depth, you can then get the player's handbook
If you're interested in DM'ing, then get the Dungeon Master's Guide and the Monster Manual
Thanks a lot! I know it probably depends on the group, but is it in general hard to get by with only the free rules in a game?
you can always ask the DM for rulings
Yo what's up
Im new to dnd, made a character sheet, read the rules and whatnot, where should a new player go to find a DM or group?
thank you lol
I've played a few dnd campaigns that never really got past the first or second session, and after a few years of not playing i'm considering coming back as a dm. Is that okay to do without much experience?
While being a player is probably a bit easier to do (only have to manage your character and work well with the rest of the party), there's nothing stopping you from playing as a DM.
You might want to check with fellow DMs in #dm-discussion about tips and tricks and general suggestions on being a DM
i have the dm guide, as well as a few things from that channel, like some dnd beyond links
so i guess i should hit the books then
It helps to know the rules (or at least know where to look them up!).
yeah, i'll definitely use the channel a bit as I get my bearings. Appreciate the advice!

somewhat new player here, im just wondering, is monsters of the multiverse worth it for the races? some of them seem cool to play as
Hey! I noticed that some of the races in that sourcebook are in Voloās.
MMom kinda replaces that book
yeah, though i wasnt as into dnd back then though, mostly was just an annual thing i did with extended family, so i didnt own volos when it was still around sadly

You're welcome
Can somedoby pls tell me how long does a regular session of dnd usually lasts? I only got a few hours a week free and I was thinking of starting.
Up to you! I've usually seen them go 2-4 hours.
it depends on you and your dm. my sessions (and almost all online sessions) usually last 3-4 hours.
I have a question
We may have answers
we are happy to help! what is it?
You need to actually post a question if you want answers
Maybe they asked the questionn already and it was just... Silent
I have a question just for a beginner which is me right which oneās more suitable or more for beginners in 2024 D&D classes ranger or Rogue and which one is better I wanna play Ranger, but I donāt know if I should I need help because we have in our party we have 1. Dhampir Battle Smith Artificer
-
Dragonborn Path of the World Tree Barbarian
-
Dragonborn Oath of Devotion Paladin
-
Halfling Warrior of Shadow Monk
-
Human Evoker Wizard
-
Human Barbarian(didn't play in last session so I don't believe they have a subclass Life Domain Cleric because our member in the campaign said you donāt have a sorcerer fighter rogue Ranger and Iām torn between Ranger and rogue I donāt know which one I am Hunter
Ranger or Thief
Rogue
I am picking a Aarakocra and they are allowed me to play it
Just to confirm: this group you're with has eight players?
Yes
Damn
That is correct
I don't know if I'd recommend continuing to try to play in a group with eight players
It's not going to give you a very good experience of the game.
I never got a chance to play D&D. I had a very bad experience for my first game and I would do anything to get a D&D experience
It... Can work, but in general experience, D&D is a more... Fun experience with a group of 4 to 7, at most. There are some pretty rough horror stories of DMs who tried to run games for like more than 10 players
I know thatās a lot and overwhelming matter-of-fact
The classic saying here is "No DnD is better than bad DnD"
4-6 is ideal
That being said, to answer your first question: Rogue is easier to learn than Ranger. Both are perfectly workable.
Hmm and Iām Aarakocra Elemental Evil Player's Companion Your Dexterity score increases by 2, and your Wisdom score increases by 1.
But I donāt know which one wouldāve been more compatible and more useful in the party
The player in my party said that rogues and ambusher and assassin kind of thing, but has very squishy health, but it does a lot of damage which I know of
So I can only get one the only class I have for that one is thief
No matter what your party composition is, it's up to your DM to balance the game around them
True
The party's balance doesn't matter, really
Oh
Play whatever you find fun!
Iām scared for new experience
I never got a chance to play D&D
But now I can
Which is great
I really wanna play bird folk
I just think theyāre neat so Iām trying to figure out what class would work considering what our party is, but I know it doesnāt really matter
Either way, I'd recommend taking a look at the abilities for Rogue and Ranger and reading through what they can do
See which one appeals to you the most
I have an interesting question. Why does ranger get so much hate
Simply put, Ranger does a lot of things well, but nothing super great. It's a jack of all trades class, but people tend to wish it was more specialized.
Hooooooo boy. Well... Mechanically, they are lackin' compared to literally every other class. Every class has a specialty, Ranger doesn't (ironic)
This of course doesn't mean it's a bad class in any way, just that people tend to expect something from it that it doesn't do.
We're happy to answer any questions you have
So I know it doesnāt matter, but Iām just curious here which one would work well for the party ranger rogue
I just wanna know so that I can help
Depends on what you're aiming to do with said character for the party
It's really up to you in the end
Whatever you think will be more fun
Every class can help somehow.
If your game is using the old rules where your race gives you bonuses like that, then both Ranger and Rogue can benefit from Dexterity and Wisdom
Iām using the 2024 one for my classes but for my character itās the AARAKOCRA
Legacy
Elemental Evil Player's Companion
Thatās what Iām using
If you're using the current rules (2024), then your species (Aarakocra) won't give you any ability score bonuses
All your abilities score bonuses come from your background now
Oh by the way, I really like your avatar profile pic itās cool
Thank you! š
šš»
For background, I have Acolyte - Baldur's Gate
Charlatan - Baldur's Gate
Criminal -
Baldur's Gate
Entertainer - Baldur's Gate
Faceless
Folk Hero - Baldur's Gate
Guild Artisan - Baldur's Gate
Haunted One
Hermit - Baldur's Gate
Noble - Baldur's Gate
Outlander - Baldur's Gate
Sage - Baldur's Gate
Sailor - Baldur's Gate
Soldier - Baldur's Gate
Urchin - Baldur's Gate
the person thatās helping me get into the group. They asked me and they said do you wanna be a bird with your concept with your character and I said I always wanted to fly and have wings so thatās why I picked bird person.
No need to list them all. Whichever one you pick will give you your ability score bonuses.
Oh man I feel dumb
Here's a list of the free ones, for reference
Older backgrounds printed in stuff like Baldur's Gate supplements won't have the ability score bonuses listed, so you'll want to consult your DM about those
But if you pick one of the free ones then you're safe no matter what

The free rules are listed in the post above, if you'd like to look at the updated rules
Yeah, I saw the rules that they updated for the backgrounds and everything
In the 2024 basic rules
Had to join this server just for the first session 'cause I've always heard of D&D being too much fun and started to envy of it.
it is really fun if you have the right group
Indeed
Indeed. I have friend who knows how to do DM
Too bad he's only playing with Russian friends.
If you're looking for resources to get started, there's a bot post with the free rules a few posts up
well you can always learn how to DM, though I'd recommend you have more experience as a player first.
Now I might need English DM. Might be too difficulty.
That's why I'm here for first session
but if you're looking for a DM or game to join then #looking-for-dm and #looking-for-players is your best bet
Well the thing is I need DM who'll introduce me.
Newbie being invited to DM's custom session feels wrong tbh.
Only thing you can do is start looking! Check out #find-a-game for instructions on how to get started on this server
Well, that's the only thing my envy craves.
Then say it in a post for #looking-for-dm , I am sure many would be willing to teach you how to play. I'd do it myself but I do not have much time at the moment and I only deal with D&D 5e 2014 rules.
Why do I feel like this is false hope?
Just remember that the more information you start with, the better! You're much more likely to find a group if you're prepared and have read the basic rules.
^
I know
Please don't fuel my envy
I don't really know what that means.
You know. My friend always talked about DnD being fun due to amount of freedom when it comes to roleplaying .
Now I am interested, suddenly he doesn't want to invite me to DnD 'cause he likes his Russian friends having knowledge of his previous Session.
After that talk... Every time DnD is mentioned, it makes me want to play it so badly.
Well, time to get started then! Read up on the rules, post in the search channels, and get prepared
Would like to filter out those VC only groups. (Wish that included in search feature)
'cause that's just me being born as deaf.
Good lord. Play by post games being more rarer.
Now I'm gonna wait for a week.
Roll20 has a search that allows you to filter for text games.
You can also look elsewhere besides this server. Here are some options: #dnd-newcomers message

Hi! I was wondering would it be better to get the 2014 handbook or the new 2024 one as a new player?
Donāt buy the books as a new player.
Especially if you donāt have a group yet
Do you intend to play or dm?
As a player. Im probably going to put off bying the book for now, but it's nice to know what to do : )
The free basic rules are the best way to start.
Did I take my advice? No. Donāt be like me. Itās only coincidence that it worked out
Same lol
its best if you read the free rules first or watch a series like handbooker helper

How do bonus actions work?
Do all classes have bonus actions?
How do I know what bonus action I can take?
Can it be any action?
Where is bonus action explained in the PHB?
They're explained here:
https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dnd/free-rules/playing-the-game#BonusActions
A feature will say if it can be done as a bonus action, such as the fighters Second Wind feature, or a spell like Healing Word.
Also note Bonus Actions and Actions are not swappable (e.g. can't use a bonus action as an action and vice versa).

What would be the best edition to start with ?
Whatever the DM you find is running tbh
Though in terms of what's most common/popular at the moment, probably 5e 2014 version or 2024 version
I would say that 5e is the one I been looking at and I find really interesting but Iām stuck now that I been reading the rules and learning alil more about it where do I go from here like to start a game for the first time or get better at it ?
Ok bet thank you @west sigil really appreciate it

Can someone help me out with character creation
What is it you need help with?
If you need the basics, then I would suggest going by the core 2024 rules and picking your characterās stats with point buy, their class, their species, their background, and their origin feat
Here are the basic rules for stats per class. The stats put beside each class is the one you want to focus on for that specific one. They are as follows:
Artificer=Int
Barbarian=Str
Bard=Cha
Cleric=Wis
Druid=Wis
Fighter=Str OR Dex
Monk=Wis AND Dex
Paladin=Str OR Dex AND CHA
Ranger= Dex OR Str AND Wis
Rogue= Dex
Sorcerer= Cha
Warlock= Cha
Wizard= Int
I keep trying to send the link but when I do it gives away my email
What kind of link? If itās from DDB then it should only reveal your username, at worst
Unless youāve made your username your email as well

Hi! Iām a complete begginner, and iām looking to start playing dnd, but i cant find a team to start. Do you guys play here?
No games are played on the server, but you can find other folks to play with through the Looking for Game/Group channels. Instructions for navigating those are in #find-a-game.
Thanks!
Yk, might not be a perfect solution for people who donāt understand Boolean logic conventions.
Correction: imperfect for people who DO
Maybe a silly question but how much of a say does the DM have over your character creation? As in can I make a character that I like and then sign up for a campaign with that character or sign up for a campaign and the dm will tell you what kind of character you can make ?
DMs can have a lot of say, directly and indirectly
Making a character first will limit your options; if you make a thri-kreen artificer with a Strixhaven background, you won't be allowed to take your character into a campaign with no artificers, no thri-kreens, or no MtG options for example
If you make an elf character, you might have friction playing in a setting where the villain is an evil elven empire
Dang. Well... Then I would suggest for you to get it if you to get it.
Where would be a good place to go to learn how to make my character and see what a game is like, i learn alot better actually doing the stuff

How does it actually work though, is there like taster games to practice or do i have to do a whole multi hour campaign?
Really depends on the group and the game of D&D they are playing
Sometimes it's fairly quick one-shot session (2 hours maybe?)
Other games though will run a typical 3-4 hours.
Find a game with a session 0
How important is the roleplay, cause im not a huge fan of being a character more than just playing the game
it entirely depends on the group
I DM for 2 groups, one is 60/40 combat and roleplay, the other is 80/20 roleplay and combat (mostly because i gave them their first combat encounter after 2 sessions)
Given that D&D is a roleplaying game, there's going to be a very strong bias towards playing a character
If you don't want that, maybe look into D&D/TTRPG-like board games such as Gloomhaven
even if you're not a fan of roleplay or shy doing it you can still make compelling characters
Not to say there aren't roleplay-free games, but they're very much in the minority
but as davyd said D&D is a tabletop roleplaying game
I don;t mind rolepalying, i jsut dont want like 4 hours straight of it, id prefer ike a 50/50 split of fighting too
Even the combat can be role playing - e.g. "My character Bjorn leaps into the air and brings their battleaxe down on the mindflayer and then pushes around behind them".
Okay, so that's a different proposition and something DMs will generally communicate
entirely depends on the party
If I had to guess, would your idea of "too much roleplay" be something like spending an entire session haggling with shop keepers?
It seems liek this game is dependent on how creative and how flexible a dm is
pretty much
100%, it's a roleplaying game
The game is built around improvisation, creativity, and imagination
Don't expect D&D to be like a video game
Or a board game
I guess the only thing close to it i have is bg3 so i think im seeing it that way
It's not that
Socially collaborative tabletop role playing game that focusses on working with others to explore a fun story as a game.
wait, is it all imagine? like how do you track movement or see enemies?
You can play D&D without maps or minis and do everything "theatre of the mind" where the DM and players just describe and imagine things
some DMs use virtual table tops or minifigures to visualize it
That's not mandatory, just a style of play
That sounds more like something id try
And even when you do use maps and minis (be it physical or digital), those are still aids for the description rather than a rigid expression of the game
Like owlbear rodeo?
yeah
The game is mostly up to your imagination which makes it different from video games
Is there any good online builders for the 2024 version?
As in character building tools?
yup
D&D Beyond, roll20, and Foundry all support the 2024 Player's Handbook in their character builders
i tried beyond but you gotta pay to use the players handbook stuff
That will be the same across the board
You cannot access paid content without paying for the content
you have to pay for rules about a game about imagination?
theres some layer of irony there
No, there isn't
Because people designed those rules, developed them, playtested them
Artists were commissioned, editors and layout workers compiled the books
You can always make up your own stuff. That's what homebrew is. But WotC is a company that needs to make money
"A game about imagination" is just roleplaying games
Check out the free rules - you really can play D&D just with that.
D&D is a specific product
The other books just give you more options
its more that newer monk in the 2024 handbook looks pretty fun tbh, plus thsoe aces. So they are only in that? Nowhere else?
Have you looked through the free rules yet?
As UndyingNoob said, it's in the D&D Free Rules
yeah it doesnt have the subclass i wanted to try
so does that jsut mean i cant play that then without buying?
Well then try one of the free subclasses
You can play with the free materials just fine'
Try it out first
If you like it, then consider buying the books you want to access the other options you want to try.
sounds good
Often many groups will share their content with each other
you could try finding a homebrew subclass similar to it
There is a lot of good homebrew so a good suggestion
and a lot of unbalanced homebrew so check with your DM before using
or if you really want to use the exact subclass and don't want to pay for it then you could manually create a character sheet
which i still haven't done despite playing and DMing for almost 3 years
How can i get the infomation for it without the book though
Be in a D&D group that is sharing their content with each other
Or see if your local library carries the books!
Some local playgroups might be able to lend i the book as well

2024 DM ed question Chapter 2 PG.42 :
How much (+)Advantage does the player get after adding 10 + All modifiers to the intitiative roll?
Hiii what spells should I run for warlock? I'm new to it or wizard I just wanna know recommended spells
Good question for #character-discussion or #optimization depending on what you're looking for.
But for warlocks, eldritch blast is kind of a key spell for the class.
And generally you'll want a mix of attack (spell attack roll), save spells (requires target to roll a saving throw), and utility spells.
Thanks :)
How do I make all the dices out of paper
While it may not be a question for this channel, dont let the rudeness preempt you from trying to make them. I know some people that play in prison make paper dice, it's useful
If you don't me mind asking, why not real dice? They are neat!
Papercraft for DnD is pretty cool in general, great if you don't have access to plastic minis and whatnot
i want to get into dnd but its confusing

I played some sessions with IRL friends, and they got a little "intimidated" by the stats in character creation. One thing that worked for us was using some premade characters and focusing on the roleplaying part, not being so adamant about strict rules. Rule of fun for beginners.
Best case scenario would be a table with a DM and players that have a mindset of "let's start slow, simple and prioritize the fun of adventure"
That's one common method, yep!
good to know
I do that all the time
We load on a Virtual tabletop (Roll20 is the most popular, but there are many others. I personally like Tableplop because you don't even need an account to enter a campaign.
We chat through Discord, I have a bot for music. Everything works great
Website, you can make characters, adventures, and buy the rule books there
good to know, thank you
It's a little complex at first though, but I would go give it a look
Nothing beats in person DnD, but it's a great tool
Roll-20 has a good program that kinda makes it easier to make a character. How ever it can often bugg out
I think the DnD Beyond character builder is pretty straightforward too
Mind you, on both websites you are limited to the free rules unless you buy the online books
i made my character from there
i just dont know what to do next
Find a campaign
oh alright then
Oh, you can find a group in #looking-for-players
Go to #looking-for-players if you are okay with online stuff
Where do you make a character?
You can use DnD Beyond, you can fill out a character sheet on your PC, or print off a sheet and fill it out by hand.

Hi, I'm new to Dnd and am trying to find a DM to help run me and 2 friends through any campaign how would I find someone for that?
hello new friends
just played some dnd with my friends and it was going great i think but for some reason they lost interest but i didnt haha
is this server for playing like public dnd?
You can use the looking channels to try to find games, but we don't play here
This server is more for discussing d&d
how long is the average combat expected to take?
Depends on if people know what they wanna do on their turn before it gets to them, how powerful the party/enemies are, and how many party members/enemies there are
how much time should be set aside for a new group in early combat, no early feats, levels 1-3
an hour?
longer? less?
ok
But if theyāre new itāll automatically take longer yeah
Since they gotta get the hang of things
Early combat 30-45 mins
i've been playing d&d for abt 5 days now got any tips?
What do you want tips on specifically? D&D is a broad topic
New player. Can i roll my physical die during online game? I know trust is i an issue here but im honest player?
You can, if the DM is okay with it
I allow my players to do that 90% of the time
And remember, some DMs may say no but that doesn't automatically mean a lack of trust
A lot of online tools integrate digital dice rolls automatically, so DMs might ask everyone use digital dice for that
no need for pics of nat20's or anything?
No, if I'm gonna trust my players to roll in general, I'm gonna trust them not to lie about critical hits
Hi
do players use dnd beyond for rolls witch they can't roll? For exaple lvl 9 Fireball???
You can 100% roll for that on DDB
I'm new I was wondering is someone can be my dm cause I got some unused characters
Check #find-a-game
@wooden leaf As you were told in #dnd-discussion, you should follow the instructions in #find-a-game
DDB is moreso used for convenience, especially the math bit of character creation
Some people definitely have enough d6's for a level 9 fireball though
I donāt experience it with home/irl games very often but Iāve encountered a lot of roll fudgers in online D&D games, having a screen to hide behind makes people more tempted to cheat I think
Cool is there any games i can join or a channel where these games are being held? Im sick and can't work so i would like to play like a one shot or something?
I'm confused
By what exactly?
I never been in this server before and I don't know anything at all so I don't know how to use your guys thing
What part of the instructions was confusing?
Also don't post your age, against server rules and all that
@jagged crescent Here's how you roll the dice for a 9th level fireball
Sorry won't happen again
They mean you should edit your post to remove your age
You learn how to use "the thing" by reading the instructions on using "the thing"
#find-a-game <<<<<< Instructions for "the thing"
in your oppinion what is the easiest class in d&d?
Probably champion fighter imo
alr
Good, solid, simple "slap it with your sword" type
Thank you! Anyway i could join a One shot or get in to a game? Appriciate your time it must be consuming answering all these questions.....
You were literally just told how to find games
Iād say barbarian is up there as well
My bad
- go to #find-a-game
- read #find-a-game
- follow #find-a-game
ok cool! thanks for the help
However, I'd say the jump in difficulty from "easiest" class to "hardest" class isn't insurmountable for a newcomer, so I'd honestly say "play whatever sounds fun and figure it out as you go"
brain not work š have a good day yall
That's what I'm doing right now! i like rogue and fighter at the moment!
How do I join the dm?
The instructions are all there
The 2024 PHB has an official āclass complexityā list and it lists fighter and rogue as lowest complexity out of all the classes, so take that for what itās worth
I know that but I was wonder how to join them on dnd beyond
... ok
They'll give you an invite link to their campaign
Like the one from 03/22/2025?
The one on find a dm
I main rogue and Iād also admit theyāre extremely easy to play
Or something
@wooden leaf You're going to have to not assume we can see or are looking at what you can see/are looking at
I'm thinking about trying dragonborn sorcerer/warlock. that sounds like a big jump
Nah, that's totally doable as a newcomer
You mean on the LFG forums? Setting aside the fact that it's not even the 22nd of March yet, the process for game application using the DDB forums will be different than here- in which case you would follow the DDB LFG guidelines
Sounds like a great time to me
I wouldn't necessarily recommend multiclassing for a newbie, since the rules can be a bit complex especially with Warlock added into the mix. However, if you're really interested in it that'll do you much better for learning the game & enjoying your character than playing something else that you like less
Is Baldur's Gate 3 a fair look at how DND sessions go?
Sessions? No
It's an okay approximation of the general mechanics and theme, but not sessions or the exact rules
Game mechanics are the same or would i have to learn something new?
Like I said, an approximation
like reactions
They're not 1:1 the same and to be honest, the small differences will trip you up more than the big ones
As a newcomer, I'd not use BG3 as a way to learn the rules
thank you for the time
It's a good approximation for rules and mechanics, but many have been adapted to work in a video game format. As for session, given there's no DM or other players (unless multiplayer ofc), it's like comparing apples and potatoes.

Iām looking to participate in a campaign, I have a character thought up and currently working on his sheet. But would like a DM to discuss with to see if itās allowed (not that heās op, heās just got a kinda complicated, yet still short and not drawn out backstory.) help would be greatly appreciated.
If it's just looking over a sheet for mechanical stuff I can do that, but if it's "allowed" is up to your DM. We all have our own rules, interpretations, and willingness to bend some stuff.
Hi I am so new and only finally getting to AoE spells, what does the āmake a constitution saving throw. On a failed saveā¦ā
What does that mean?? What is the successful save? What number do i compare?
Each save has a difficulty class, or DC for short. The DC on any spell you cast is calculated by the class that gives you that spell. If you read the class features you see the calculation. Usually it's 8 + Proficiency Bonus + your spellcasting ability.
When someone makes a saving throw against a spell you cast, they roll against this DC.
I see, so to succeed they need to roll higher than my Save DC.
What about the other way around? If Iām the one rolling for saving throw? I just roll d20+saving throws modifier right?
yup, and proficiency bonus if applicable
Higher or equal is enough to overcome a DC, this also applies to attack rolls against AC (armor class)
"Meets it beats it".
Gotcha! And thanks @lyric fjord too
Why not share a quick summary of your idea in #character-discussion ?
does someone have an easy campaign template for google docs
Hey! Kinda new to dnd. My brother recommended this server to play so can you teach me the roles, stuff you can be and I've been thinking up characters for a while š so can you tell me how to play online dnd?

Hello everyone. I have played DnD before but it's been a while.
Hi
I've played DnD before but it's been a while since I played. I have alot of DnD 5E books and some homebrew books too.
How are you?
Don't know but I am sorta new to dnd. I know a lot created a new character practically every day. But never actually played a game
I understand and what is your favorite class or multiclass?
My favourite class would be either be paladin or warlock
nice, I like Monk. I usually play Monk. I've played Bard. I made the Dark Magician from Yugioh as a DnD character but I couldn't understand wizard. But want to one day.
If your wondering about my name. My discord name is ResidentEvilFan but put y'all can call me Res or Resi.
You can call me alf

Hi Iām a guy completely new to dnd as of now I played before as a child I really want to get back into things I donāt know anything but I hope to make a friend or two that keeps this game forever living
Hello
I just started doing d&d yesterday
I sending a friend request as we speak
Did you create a character yet?
And what edition were you looking forward to playing?
My DM and a few other people are helping me make one
I don't know what you mean by that
I am still knew
Itās okay
So am I, I wonāt throw things at you
Cool cool are interested in someone else new
Wdym?
Will they have a problem helping me
I mean it's really up to them
But if you really need help making a character you can always just go to #character-discussion
Sure
Okay thank you!
Go ahead and ask your D&D questions in this channel. It's for helping bring new players aboard, folk will answer as and when they can.
Cool beans thank you
How do I understand the point system
To not go under or over when making one
Yo Shae, do you still want me to ask or are you going to go in character discussion?
Can you please
You can use a calculator like this one (https://chicken-dinner.com/5e/5e-point-buy.html).
I'd recommend the standard array method to get started, though. You get 15, 14, 13, 12, 10 and 8 to assign to your ability scores.
Ok
Does this server also do homebrew 5E books or Homebrew classes and stuff? Just curious?
There is a #homebrew section and a place to talk about #third-party content.
Oh ok thank you. Just making sure
Thank you for letting me know.
I saw the Baldurs Gate channel. Is there is also a Baldurs Gate DnD book too? I am not all caught up on the new DnD content.
do thrown weapon attacks have disadvantage at melee range?
Unless something says otherwise, ranged weapons have disadvantage against targets within 5 feet.
I've been informed before that thrown weapons are not in the category of ranged weapons
I just got GHOSTED by 7 players whom I invited on this platform. 1 arrived to play
You may ask about it in #dnd-rules but if it's thrown, it becomes a range weapon from what I can tell.
it is like a job application
It happens a lot unfortunately
I have been trying to get into a game for 90 days now
Well keep the player that showed up on yoru short list and keep finding good folks to add to that list of "People I can play D&D with".
you know what excuse I haven't read so far? An actual meteor
2nd game went down as a relative of DM died
2 week mourning, third was kaputt
a group imploded last time as the DM did not even text us back that we were thrown out
May I ask what is the timing like? Cause for me my campaign is every weekend at 8 AM ET/EDT
Trying to put together my first play-by-post situation on Discord!
Are there any must-haves (bots, channels, etc.) for a server like this?
The most important things for a PBP imo is consitency and accountability. Those kinds of games are more prone to "fizzling out" so to speak due to inactivity
As for bots, you'll prob want a dice bot like Avrae to keep rolls logged & fair. Everything else is pretty much preference
Food for thought, thanks!
how even the game works?
you got somebody narrating what is going on and playing as NPCs while the players interact with the world the narrator is describing
Depends on whose game you're playing. Mostly, dragons in D&D are powerful and intelligent beings. They're more likely to accept a rider as a useful accessory rather than obey their commands.
well what if i beat the living out of it and then say you be my ride or my armor
i guess i need ez mode for that
Only the Dungeon Master (DM) of the game you're playing could tell you what happens next.
Most folk play over voice chat, other options are available.
Take a look at the Free Rules (https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dnd/free-rules), see what kind of character class appeals to you. More to follow.

so if i want to see other rules i have to buy the books right?
human paladin i guess i go then for the first one
is there lighting buff that i can use on my wepon and become solair?
You can read how spells work and then read what all the spells are to see if there's a spell that works like that
You can use the Light cantrip for that purpose
elmental wepon was somthing that sounded like that but it`s description was paid so idk how that works
Divine smite is likely what you're after.
enchanting things is if dm allow or else?
You should read the rules
ok i search for it
It sounds like you're talking about something akin to Minecraft enchantments, which aren't a thing in DnD
Paladin has spells like Divine Smite which power up your attack in various ways
These spells power your attack up once per casting of the spells and thus aren't permanent
There are magical weapons which grant bonuses to your attack rolls and damage, but these can't be made with a spell
i know what a wepon buff is
Idk if the free rules have magical weapons
have that but i see it in dark souls way
that feels like a buff for mage class kinda for me but if it helps me beat enemys i have no problem
There is no mage class, and spellcasters like Wizard generally never use weapons
Magic weapons are mostly for martials like Fighter
You seem to be lacking a fundamental understanding of DnD, so you really should read the free rules
hmm so there must be some enemy that you need to do magic damge or you do no damage then. right?
I don't even understand your question
Are you looking for an enemy which is immune to non-magical damage?
no just remided me of fear and hunger
where you needed cursed wepon to hit ghosts
ty
how do you guys figure out names for your charecters without basing them off something the only thing ive come up with is xanax
Question as a warlock what does the patron do besides give you magic abilities
idk
That is detailed in the description for the Warlock class, but long story short: you make an agreement with your patron to get everything the Warlock class grants you and maybe some more, but your patron also gets something out of the deal
What your patron gets is up to you and maybe also your DM to decide and is often a major part of your backstory
Does the patron get a specific vessel eg a ring
Up to you to decide
can i make a agreament with a patron to that if i beat him in a simple children game then i get all there powers and i become there patron then?
If your patron for some reason agrees to that, then sure
the chaos we can create is as the univese can expande then
...what
There are no mechanics for becoming the patron
It would be up to your DM if any of that is even remotely possible
So I read the warlock class and it says the patron can make permanent changes to your character interesting
how can you identify a mimic?
When it tries to eat you usually works
can your patron make your thifling chracter 7 feet then right?
Up to your DM
If you wanna make a character who made becoming 7 ft be a part of the pact, then ask your DM if you can do that
What do Fae even do I'm kinda confused
idk
You mean Fey, as in creatures from the Feywild?
Are you familiar with the fair folk/fairies/fae of mythology?
Plenty of random name generators out there, or take an existing name and change a letter. Adam becomes Adak, Bob becomes Bol.
damn thanks that helps a lot/gen
If you want a meaningful name, then think of your character's personality and then 2-3 words which in whatever way you feel an association with that personality. You can then make a pun with those words, or dive into the etymology of those words or look into other languages until you find something that you think sounds cool.
This is all definitely unnecessary, and using a random name generator or whatever you feel like is totally fine
All that's necessary is the DM allowing the name
how about i just do a costution check or somthing for that?
hallo
For what?
You seldomly do a Construction check, and definitely not for this purpose
It's all there in the rules. Why don't you try going through the steps of making a character?
Whenever I think of Fae I think of creatures that use wordplay to somehow trap you into an extremely disadvantageous contracts
The call for deciding a check for clocking a Mimic is to the DM. Your DM might ask insight, perception, investigation, or whatever.
my first isnt english and i cant speack english fuitly and don`t know what half the words mean
wait a minute
oh yeah ty
reading the rules of making one or making one?
Read about it, then do it.
hey im brand new to this and would like to learn if someone could maybe help me out or send me some messages to help me out that would be amazing
really fills like studing last minute
Presuming you're on D&D Beyond now, don't worry about those options. The only one to remember is when you come to ability scores set it to the Standard Array method.

hey can you tell me what i do here
Put it to milestone if that's what you're asking about.
Yo I'm brand new to DND but I do really want to get into it I just don't know how or who to play with
Hey welcome! A good place to start are the free basic rules which you can find in the bot post above. Feel free to ask any questions you may have here while you read.
Anyone willing to play some online D&D as to instruct me from zero how to play?
There aren't enough people with time to teach 1 on 1 but we can answer any questions you might have as you review the rules
Hey I'm completely new to role-playing and dnd and was wondering if anyone or a group will be willing to help me play and get to learn dnd
Welcome. On this server we have an lfg system where players and DMs organize themself. You can check out #looking-for-players to see if there are open games that might suit you.
#find-a-game explains further how it works
hello im new to dnd itself looking for a necromancer teacher
im currently looking to build a charachter on roll 20 but i cant seem to find the school of necromacy and other spells so wonderingt how im supposed play what im looking to play
The free rules are limited to the evocation school. The necromancer subclass requires the purchase of the Player's Handbook (2014).
However, you don't need to play that subclass to pick necromancy spells, so you can still Animate Dead just fine with an evocation subclass wizard.
i cant even find whre to find a school at the tutorial is only helpful for on map details
Have you looked at the wizard rules?
https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dnd/free-rules/character-classes#Wizard
i have about 17 different website open
im overly lost
\
s oat lvl 3 you get youre school
school of necromancy is a pay thing>?
Yes. Most player options require the purchase of a book.
how much is said book im looking to see if i canfind people to play with not spend money to make a charachter i wont ever iuse
Depends on where you buy it. I imagine roll20 has a marketplace that will tell you the price. Likely around 30 usd for a digital license.
But as I said, the free rules provide a free subclass (Evoker), which is enough to get started.
Not all spells are in the free rules. Depending on which ones you're looking for, they may also not be on roll20.
tbh i have 0 clue what i mdoing
im trying to us e my ai and google to figure out how to play a necroamnccer but only place i found is roll20
but i can make a charachjter becsuase i cant find where to buy the school of necromancy
Well, AI is going to tell you a bunch of half-truths at the best of times. And it likely has old information, since DnD has been around for a while.
As I said, the Player's Handbook (2014 version) contains the necromancer subclass.
how do you buy that on roll 20 im looking for it and it isnt a thing
why tf they make it so hard to play š thius the same has warhammer so much potential hidden
Google helps, here:
https://marketplace.roll20.net/browse/bundle/3828/players-handbook
thhank you
I should also mention that there exists a newer version of the Player's Handbook (2024), but that one happens to not include the necromancy subclass.
yes i need the necromancy school if 2024 don have it i only need 2014
I don't disagree, but the reason is likely money.
if i find a dm who has the 2014 pack i can make a wiz with the necro school right>
I'm not sure. On roll20, if you build the character in a game that a DM that owns that content has created, yeah I think so.
But I haven't used roll20 in a while, so take that with a grain of salt.
DnD Beyond and Foundry VTT
can you join random campaiigns or is that just a friends buikt one
Yes, roll20 is the biggest 'package deal' for running and playing games, because it also has a public lfg system.
For DDBeyond and Foundry, it's private. That is, you'll likely organize outside of the platform. Though DDB has a forum you could check out.
yea the lfg thing is what im looking for thhe most idk anyone who plays dnd
ima have to get me thhe pack next pay check
I would also encourage you to give it a try with just the free rules. Can't hurt to test the waters before you buy something.
Even if it isn't the exact character you wanted.
ihave a decent dnd ecperience from listeneing i just reaollly want to give a go at necromancy since i know its hard to play roleplay wise
Animate dead is in the Free Rules, right? Throw in chill touch, ray of sickness, that kind of thing, easy to get it going.
im not sure is animatre dead in fre rule ?>
ive nvever made a characvhter before been looking multiple posts or guides o nhow to m ake a necro and they all go to necromancy schoo l
tbh i dont know wtf im doing making a chara myself lol
i know how to play one building him is a whole new thing
das why i masking if anyone played a necro in a campagne before to get so pointers
Oh, look at that: https://www.dndbeyond.com/spells/2618853-animate-dead
You don't need to have the necromancy subclass to take necromancy spells. As I said before, an evoker can cast Animate Dead just as well.
without any packs i only yhave the evocation school
So, wizard is the class, pick a species. Elf might be fun if you want an extra four hours to get stuff done. Pick a background, from the Free Rules I'd say any but Soldier, really. Don't worry about the subclass, it's not actually a requirement - as Deva said.
okok
i already have a chart for a warlock necro idk if its any good for wiz tho Intelligence: 15 (+1 from race = 16)
Constitution: 14
Dexterity: 13
Charisma: 10
Wisdom: 12
Strength: 8
Step 4: Choose Yo
this looks ok ?
disregard boinuses since im planning to polay teifling
Sure, you want the Intelligence for your casting and the Constitution to keep your concentration spells running.

Hii
Hellooo
Do races help with classes or no
Id say it could do
Since some get bonuses to specific stats that can boost a certain classes best stat
But it doesn't really matter unless you want to maximize your output
I'd say just do whatever you want to do
This is no longer true. Since the release of Tasha's and the 2024 PHB all races get the same method for stat boosts: +1 to 3 different scores or a +2 & +1 to different scores
That being said race has very little impact if any to a class. All are viable unless you're playing a specific kind of game that wants to deep dive into #optimization
Interesting
The only exception, at least on the +1/1/1 and +2/+1 part is if you were playing 2014 only and used a race that had a unique stat bonus (e.g. Mountain Dwarf which has a +2 Str and +2 Con), in which case you would be able to arrange that unique set around as normal thanks to Tasha's (e.g. +2 Int, +2 Cha)
Hello guys, is there anything i should check out before i start making characters?
i wanna make a paladin character but i just wanna make sure that im doing everything right and not just randomly picking stuff hoping for the best

you want #find-a-game
Is anyone starting a campaign for newcomers if so can you invite me
Check the link Davyd posted above. This server has it's own channels for group finding.
@left pendant Look up three messages (and don't share your age, it's against server rules)
Sorry, just realized
Hii, can someone tell me the role of High elf?
and what's their magic?
My friends are going to make a DND game and Idk the things that I will do on that game. The only role that I want is elf though..
Crossposting here but races aren't tied to classes so it can be anything
Sorry for crosspost T^T
What you want to do is go to the Free Rules (https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dnd/free-rules) and look at the descriptions of classes first.
For the Shove action
Whose proficiency bonus do I use?
Shove. The target must succeed on a Str./Dex. (it chooses which) saving throw (DC = 8 + Prof. Bonus + Str.) or you can either push it 5 ft. away or cause it to have the Prone condition.
And for that matter whose STR stat?
Based on the level of the character performing the shove. For a level one character, that's +2. Their Strength bonus also applies.
The acting character is setting the difficulty for the defending creature to resist.
You've got it.
hello, I've just joined this DnD discord and would like some help from someone pls
Hey everyone, im new to dnd but I absolutely love the premise of character, lore, and world building, Iām a big rpg player, artist, and writer in my spare time but mainly I work as a nurse! Iām gonna check out more of the rule sets for the game and hopefully I can join some great campaigns here!
