My recommendation is by playing D&D's community campaign called Adventurers League.
- It provides a low barrier for entry. Players just commit to a single session at a time. Usually 2-4 hours.
- The adventures for level 1 characters are often designed to teach you basics.
- As you play, you'll discover what types of players and dungeon master you gravitate towards.
- You'll have a higher chance of forming a long lasting group by reaching out to people you have establish history with through these independent play sessions.
