#al-admin-questions

Please rewrite this in #1159587243204284416 with a description of the problem and the solution you're hoping for. That way I (or another AL admin in my absence) will have that information for the next guidance update. Thank you!
Ok everyone! I think I've collected and passed on all the questions so far (for EFotA and [requests for future guidance](#al-rules-compendium message)). I'm signing off for my vacation.
Toni will be checking in here as she can. And she or another AL admin will give you updates.
Have so many good adventures while I'm gone (I plan to do the same)! I'll be back at work January 5th.
At higher level, the updated artificer can choose any uncommon and rate wondrous items that are not cursed as their magic item plans. According to the LoG document, we can only choose from DMG and the new Eberron book. This feel very limited compared to Druids, who can choose their wild shape from any campaign legal source with DM discretion.
As a half caster with a very short spell list (and only one unique spell compared to paladin and ranger), one can argue artificer’s magic item plans are the actual core part of the class, and it’s unsatisfying to see it getting limited to DMG items with little chance of expanding it in the future.
Could admins please consider allowing artificer choose their wondrous items plans from any campaign legal source under DM discretion? It will give artificers more options as a half caster while giving DM a way of future proofing if certain new items become disruptive. And as mentioned above, it’s also more in line with how wildshape source works.
Hi! Question regarding rewards after session's end: Must the mundane items (gems, valuables, etc) that you might be able sell to add to the party's gold reward should be under the Treasure section/listing as well for them to be obtainable by the party? From page 4 of the new ALDMG this requirement are only for magic items, right? Or is my interpretation incorrect?
In the old ALFAQ there was a rule that items attuned by familiars counted against a character's attunement limit. While the new ALPG clarifies that items held by the familiars count against the AL carried items limit and that attunement is DM discretion, it says nothing about attunement counting against the character's attunement limit. Does that mean items that a DM allows a pet to attune to no longer count against the character's attunement limit? For example, provided the DM approves can a T3 wizard have a familiar attuned to a ring of spell storing and then also be attuned to three other items, all within the carried item limit at T3?
Can I have a private thread for a report regarding an AL issue, please.
If this is about users on the server, server rules, or moderations you're involved in, please use #moderator-support and ask for a private thread there.
Can "Navigator’s Helm" Bastion Facility please be allowed in Forgotten Realms to enable thematic Mobile Bastions? (The most broken thing I see is it combinded with "Emerald Enclave Grove" Bastion Facility housing a Unicorn with a 1 mile radius effect. I would recommend stating lair effects do not extend outside a Mobile Bastion or stating no lair effects.)
@meager bay What source is the "Navigator's Helm" from?
the new Eberron book
Are they allowed the Emerald Enclave Grove if we don’t have renown in AL how does that work?
DD AL PG: Fill in Details: Faction. You may join one faction from
campaign lore (not Red Wizards) or through play of
adventures with membership offers. Switch any time.
Your character must stay non-evil and harmonious with
party members. Faction Renown Rewards aren’t earned.
Emerald Enclave Grove: Prerequisites: Lv9 & Membership in the Emerald Enclave (In AL you can pick just one for each game sesson).
Navigator's Helm: Prerequisites: Eberron & Lv9 (no faction nor renown requirement).
Clarification for Gain Rewards as if a player - since we include the date of when we ran the adventure, would this mean that the character we assign it to needs to already be at the same tier at the time of running it?
Bastion Question
If my bastion’s teleportation circle brings in a hired Wizard, and I ask them to cast Tasha’s Bubbling Cauldron, what ability score modifier should I assume the wizard has when determining how many potions the spell creates?
Additionally, the spell states:
“Potions obtained from the cauldron that aren't consumed disappear when you cast this spell again.”
How long should you assume they last for or is it a situation where you the player cant higher the spellcaster to do that again or the potions go away.
From what sources can an Artificer choose items for the open choice options (eg Common magic item that isn't a potion, a scroll, or cursed; Uncommon Wondrous Item that isn’t cursed), for Replicate Magic Item? Is it only PHB'24 (as the Eberron books items are already their own options in the list), or does include other books like Tasha's, BoMT, Heroes of Faerun, etc.?
I ask, because a popular choice for Artificers, previously, was a Lv1 spellwrought tattoo, which was not reprinted in PHB'24 and may thus not be available if the sources are more limited for the new Artificer.
I think this is important: #al-characters message
DDAL PG heavily uses digial-only published material. Asking players in their free time to have a printed list of publication dates because an offical paid-for published list isn't errated is insanity. New and existing players should be able to reference dndbeyond's game rules pages to verify or find the newest source/rule of any content (Legacy badges), as that is the mmo-like rolling-update with-ads-to-buy model that wizards is using and pushing as Offical.

For the Epic DDEP09-01 Infernal Pursuits there is a shop where players can buy magic items. Can I change the list of items to enhance the players experience making it a tempting offer to make a deal with a Devil in theme with being in Avernus? The Items currently listed aren't tempting enough for players to consider buying them.
Hi all, I have been DM DDAL and I will be DM at CanCon, I was wondering how can I become part of the DM DDAL community. Appreciate your ehlp and guidance.
Hello admins, happy holidays! I hope you are doing well.
Two part question:
-
Looking at the future of AL and LOG for 2026 and beyond, what updates do we see on the horizon?
-
How is the admin team doing this year? There’s been a lot of change between rules updates, the LoG rollout, and of course at WotC as well.
I would like to request that this entry be removed from the ALAG. Page 23 under "Hall of the Fire Giant King":
||Third Level Area 7. Treasure Trove Cave. In place of any GP, gems, or art objects, the hoard awards two consumables per character. These consumables may be from the Arcana-Rare or lower tables. Use the most updated versions of these items. The items may not grant a permanent stat boost or meet the ALPG’s Unavailable Magic Item criteria.||
I'm not sure why it was decided to remove this treasure in the first place, but IMO it takes some of the fun out of defeating ||an adult red dragon... that was sleeping on a mountain of coins, which the DM then has to inform the party they can't loot, but here, take a couple of potions/scrolls instead.||
Certainly, the items in the hoard don't seem to be disruptive or present other issues, so I'm not sure what purpose this entry serves. (upon reading the entry again, the hoard still includes the magic items in the adventure text, which alleviates this issue by a lot. I still think it's weird to change the hoard contents like this though)
Eberron RFTLW has 1 feat: Revenant Blade.
It was not carried into the new Eberron book.
Newest guidance has taken Feats off the table for this book.
Was this on purpose or an oversight?
was making some new AL eberron characters and can't currently do a Valenar Elf with the feat, which is a pity.
Hi all, I am a new AL DM and I was reading about service hours, what will be the best tool/way to record them? Thanks
Will the next set of Service Awards be available to use on January 1st? If not, when should we expect them? And what should be done in the mean time?
Admin? Why can’t we post memes or gifs?
- This is not the channel for asking about the server rules (see #channel-guide to see our many channels)
- We don't allow memes/animated gifs because often they are exclusionary, often inappropriate, and often make fun at others expense in an uncivil way and thus we as a server have chosen not to allow them.
- If you have any further questions about the server rules (see #rules to review the server rules) or need to speak with a moderator, go to #moderator-support and simply state, "Can I speak with a mod?"
Am I correct to understand that the Dragonmarks are only AL-legal in Eberron scenarios?
That if I made a character with a Dragonmark, I’d only be able to use it in Eberron AL scenarios?
Is there someone I can reach out to on the AL team about support for an upcoming event? I have already submitted using the wotc link but it was months ago
Do Ravenloft: Mist Hunter characters keep their levels when moving to COS or do they begin that campaign at level 1?
Question about Dragon Delves: can they be run as mixed-campaign adventures?
Do we know when rules for Eberron will be updated? they still seem "to be announced"
Does the Legends of GreyHawk setting use the Bastion System? Or is that excluded from the system?
Hello 2026 people! I missed y'all!
I'm back at work and available for AL admin questions! I'll start at the top and work my way down.
AL artificers still use the ALPG's "Character Adaptations: Classes: Artificer" guidance for crafting magic items. If your question is for LoG characters, I can pass on your request.
Your question about the attunement is a general D&D question, answered in the PH. "You can be attuned to no more than three magic items at a time" applies to all attunement magic items under your character's control.
Welcome back, @twilit helm ! I'd love to get an answer to my question from November, when you get a chance. It is still up for debate, because there is a confusion about whether or not the 2024 Epic Boon Feats are direct replacements for the 2014 Epic Boon Supernatural Gifts that could be awarded in Tier4 modules prior to the 2024 PHB release. I and the other DMs at my location believe they are not direct replacements for those module rewards, because they are now Feats instead of Supernatural Gifts, while others in this Discord are arguing that you can indeed get an reward of an Epic Boon Feat from the older Tier4 modules that previously gave Epic Boon Supernatural Gifts as rewards. Original question here: #al-admin-questions message and followup question here: #al-admin-questions message
I've passed on your request to allow the EFotA Navigation Helm with your suggested guidance on lair effects not extending outside a mobile Bastion. Thank you!
The first post was answered by the community and the ALPG's "Use Most-Current Content." I'm sorry I missed your second post before I left for vacation. Those questions and others that you ask here are covered in the ALPG and ALDMG, so I'll answer them as a fellow DM in #al-dm-discussion.
Can you clarify where in the PHB you're referencing? I can find nothing in there about items under your character's control but attuned to by a creature (such as a familiar) counting towards your own attunement
Can we get some more clarification on this ruling? #al-dm-discussion message
What happens to epic boons that were turned into feats awarded by modules? Do we just gain nothing or is there a replacement? For those who earned them prior to the ALPG update do we strike them from our logs with nothing to replace them or can they continue to be used?
And as per that discussion, I would like to request that an exception for old epic boons rewards that turned into boon feats in 2024 be added to the "no feats rewarded" rule. The boon limit already stops us from bringing more than 1 regardless.
Thanks for pointing that out, I thought that rule only covers the magic items artificer crafted when leveling up to level 10/12/14/16/18/20, not magic item plans (the new term for infusion). If the intention is to allow magic item plans to be chosen from all campaign legal source as well, would it be possible to clarify it in the next ALPG update?
adding to the Boons discussion: I for one would prefer a rule that a Boon can only grant an ASI if taken as a level 19(or20) feat, over not being able to have any updated reward Boons at all.
(to clarify: i don't want an epic boon feat, i want a regular feat for that level's ASI, and a rewarded boon with no ASI even if it got updated)
this also lets you multiclass 16 4 taking a boost at levels 19 and 20 to get a 22
Off topic from the present discussion but what's the current ruling on Astarion's Book of Hungers?
Are there any tests I have to pass, or certifications I need to earn in order to call myself an official Adventurer's League DM?
I run a game on Friday nights at a local gaming store. I follow all the rules in the ALPG and ALDMG as best I can. I tell my players that I conform all my game sessions to AL rules. Sometimes they ask for proof that I represent the AL and I can't give them anything. So I'm just wondering if there's a way to make it official. Being official makes me happy.
Nowhere in the magic item attunement section on pg 232 of the 2024 PH does it define "you" as "you and all creatures control."
That section starts with the statement "some magic items require a creature to form a bond—called Attunement—with them before the creature can use an item’s magical properties" (emphasis added by me). It then transitions to using the pronoun "you" with no further explanation. The simplest reading of that is it is referring to you as an example of "a creature" from the top line statement. That would imply that familiars and other controlled creatures have their own attunement as they are still separate creatures.
If AL would like something other than this simple interpretation, I think that should be specified in the ALPG explicitly, like it used to be specified in the old ALFAQ. Unless there is some other portion of the attunement rules I am missing?
Is Borderlands Quests: Goblin Trouble an AL-legal Adventure?
I run a local TTRPG convention and am looking for any kind of support WOTC or AL specifically could provide. Do you send out "Con-Kits" like other publishers? Also, we are an all volunteer GM crew. Is tehre a requirement for GMs to be affiliiated with AL to run AL games?
Hi Ma'at, welcome back!
Any updates regarding the free epics for non-charity events? #al-news-updates message
Shiranui and @left plover I'll pass on your request for a high-level replacement reward when now and in the future, we play an adventure that rewards a Supernatural Gift (Boon) that was updated to be a feat.
I think I'm the only AL admin back from vacation, so I won't hear anything until after we're all back.
To my knowledge, Epic Boon feat rewards earned before ALPG v15.2 are not taken out of your inventory. Just follow the ALPG guidance for only carrying one Boon into a session.
Passing on this request for clarity.
More specifically we need an update. We did our best without having EFotA at the time.
I've added to the list of ALPG updates to include clarification that your character's attunement limit includes items attuned by creatures you control.
Hi @twilit helm any update on this request for an update to a question that was missed?
Does this limit of three attuned items negate the rogue subclass which allows 4?
The DC Design Guide says to take quirks and minor properties from the 2024 DMG, which eliminates several options that were available in the 2014 version. Among other losses, language proficiencies are no longer available to designers. Language proficiencies are flavorful, varied, and collectable. They also (in an admittedly coarse way) make space for players to acknowledge language diversity rather than erase it with translation magic.
If work on DC guidance is still underway, I want to advocate for the language property being made available to designers again.
Can I please request the rationale behind this, considering magic item counts are already limited by tier..
(Ma'at please ping if you respond)
I have the same question as @tame mason
If I were running an adventure with legacy pregen characters (such as Rrakkma or Locathah Rising), would I need to update the pregens to the 2024 rules or can I use the original character sheets given with the adventure(s)?
Was the question resolved?
No. Just as the PH Attunement Limit doesn't omit official D&D rules that add to the limit.
I'm investigating that section for clarity after the release of EFotA. The current guidance was edited before we had the full text of EFotA, although it was approved. The part you're asking about allows Artificers to use the "DMG and campaign sources."
Thank you Walt, I don't know where we are with a future of AL article. I think most of the questions have been covered.
AL is still here and we're playing old and new content--Use the ALPG Appendix for criteria on what is and isn't available and in which campaigns. When there's been exceptions to that criteria (allowing or disallowing, or additional guidance) I've been notified relatively quickly lately and it's added to the next ALPG.
We've been working on consolidating the guidance updates over the span of several years and will continue to work on improving them--now with a community review period.
What's on my plate immediately right now is getting caught up here and the #1159587243204284416, passing on any feedback and update requests. Then I'll finish cleaning up the #al-rules-compendium channel.
If I hear anything else "AL Future" related, I'll let y'all know.
Passed on your request to remove gp replacements from the ALAG.
Hi Ma'at, hope you had a restful holidays. I was wondering when we could expect the next season of Service Awards? (I'm currently reusing the 2025v2.2 from last year as instructed)
@twilit helm, since races were updated in Forge of the Artificer (E:FotA), specifically the Changeling and Shifters, do AL characters use the new rules or older ones from Monsters of the Multiverse (MotM)? AL PG 2026.2 would indicate using MotM.
The DNDBeyond article (https://www.dndbeyond.com/posts/2107-organized-play-update-eberron-forge-of-the) says only the class and 5 subclasses are allowed for AL. Which I think was after 2026.2 release.
If use the Changeling and Shifter from E:FotA in AL should be used as the latest released, then why aren't the Kalashtar, Khoravar, and Warforged also included for AL? We did have half-elves in 2014 which were removed for 2024, and Khoravar are the effectively new the "half-elf".
I've passed on a request to update the ALPG, clarifying, since it's not explicit who "you" is when it comes to the attunement limit. For the purposes of AL "you" would be the character and creatures under their control.
Reading this adventure over, I'm not seeing any setting details, so it would follow the ALPG setting-agnostic campaign guidance in the Appendix.
Hello and welcome! Anyone can run an AL game; the only requirement is to follow the guides in https://discord.com/channels/516367331358801950/1309594376275759104. Other DMs can help you in #al-dm-discussion and you can promote your events in #al-promo. The Organizers Guide lists the support we offer and how to submit a request for support.
No updates yet. I don't think Claire is back from vacation yet.
Hi Ma'at, I was discussing streaming service awards with someone and they were arguing that the wording of the Streamed Games section makes the streamer eligible for service hours equal to 3x the amount of hours played by just streaming on twitch, even if there is no audience). They argue that this section awards 2x the amount of service hours plus the hours earned for just playing in the stream.
So the math would be: 2x service award time for streaming + 1x time for being a player in the game
So, if they played a 4 hour game the player who is streaming earns 2 (4 hours) + 1 (4hours) for a total of 12 service hours
Is this the intended math or is the player streaming only meant to benefit from the 2x service award time for streaming?
Sorry I missed your previous question before I left for my vacation. I most recently answered this Furture of AL question here #al-admin-questions message.
Still still looking into the question about updating old pregens to new guidance. I still have no guidance on if and how to do that.
I'm passing on the requests to add to the DC Design Guide an option for designers to add the 2014 DMG Language proficiencies minor property to magic items or allow the use of the Xanathar's training downtime activity for learning languages/tools.
Is this your request? You don't want the ALPG to clarify that the "you" in the PH Attunement Limit includes creatures under your character's control. Instead you'd rather allow each creature (PC included) to attune to as many as 3 magic items as long as the player is following the Carried Magic Items by Tier limit (and any other official D&D rules adding to the limit).
I do not have an ETA for the next Service Awards document yet. I'll let you know when I do. Meanwhile, it sounds like you're following the "On Your Honor" guidance correctly.
I'd like for the "you" attunement limit to include creatures under a character's control, thanks. The amount of shenanigans that can happen otherwise will cause unnecessary problems for many tables.
I would like to add to the above at least DMs should have the right to limit the attunement limit including creatures under a character’s control.
If a DM and their table feel comfortable with high power, that’s fine. Otherwise, I can see newer DMs be burnt out by high power characters with their pets fast, which is not health for AL as a whole.
In a home game, DM can limit which items being awarded to their campaign to control this situation, in AL, players can get as many powerful magic items as they play, or via service rewards.
Let me know what you think would improve the AL channels
Honestly, yes, considering Magic Items are already restricted by tier, and considering a DM can already say "no, the creature cannot attune to that item" - we already have a system of checks and balances without changing core rules of the game
Ma'at, seeing that the Service Awards doc is still in the works, is there time for feedback / request for change?. If so, and you are going to go with the year long format again (which I thought was a good change overall), I would like to request either: more open slots in each subsection (common/uncommon, rare, very rare)(like another 4 or 6 open slots each); or a way to reset individual subsections (maybe 40 hrs to 'reset' after a subsection is full?); instead of -having- to fill up all the Legendary and Reward as Played slots. Thanks for your time.
With regards to AL's D&D 2024 backward compatibility with 2014, how should we approach the College of Swords Bard, which gains the Fighting Style feat at level 3?
Should we:
A) Choose the equivalent Fighting Style Feat (2024) for one of the two listed options in the subclass' feature
B) Consider the Fighting Style Feature updated similarly to the Fighter, Ranger, and Paladin updated Fighting Style feature, which lets them choose any Fighting Style Feat instead of being limited to a list?
For those confused, the "Fighting Style" feature in all other cases were also limited in 2014 -- for example, Rangers could not choose the Protection or Interception fighting style -- but when reprinted in 2024 they were updated to choose from any Fighting Style feat. Should the Swords Bard's Fighting Style feature also be treated as the 2024 Fighting Style feature, which grants a choice of any of them?
boon of fluid forms: 1) if the form has spellcasting does the character gain that spellcasting? What DC is used? 2) What are valid forms? Only from 2024 Monster Manual? Bigby's?
Hi! Not sure if this was addressed already but for Dragonhide Belts, do we just replace "Ki Point" with "Focus Points"?
Thanks!
I'll pass on your Service Awards request for more blank magic item options or to exchange a high number of hours to reset a reward section.
Hello Ma'at, seem like [this question](#al-admin-questions message) is lost in the channel.
For Changling and Shifter in non-EB campaigns, this DDB article didn't mention which version (Eberron: Forge of the Artificer or Monsters of the Multiverse) to use.
I was wondering if there would be a response to my question. Thank you for bringing it back up.
Hi! Is there a way / what is the best way to see the status of a Con Support request for AL/LoG? (apologies if this is the wrong channel)
Ttjiong and @prisma rapids, I'm investigating a related question I had that will affect this answer. I'm just waiting to hear back. I just marked John's original post with a
.
I have sent in an Epic support request on Nov 13, 2025. Ticket number 4836151, my event will be in March 13-15, 2026. I would like to get confirmation to arrange DMs and other assignments. Thank you.
+1 I've sent an Epic support request as well. Hope Claire and the team are well!
In regards to the POs, I believe I have a good overview, but can we get an official summary of who they currently are and what areas they have again? Is there an overview of published/released PO adventures somewhere?
That info is in the ALDMG.
At what point does inactivity by a Premier Organizer for a particular campaign result in loss of PO status and the opening of the region to DungeonCraft authors? Also, is there anything that can be done by the Admins to get previously run, convention-ready modules released?
Could I request a private channel to follow up on an event support request please?
In 2022, WOTC handed the DRW series over to BMG. At that time, BMG (Dave) promised that all DRW adventures would be released.
We have no plans at this time for any content that will not be released on the DMG and I can promise all DRW content will always be released.
We got ya. No worries.
#801504930716057631 message
You even quoted him here: #al-rules-compendium message
Can the AL-admins PLEASE light whatever fires that are needed to get BMG to release their DRW adventures?
It's been over one year since the last DRW-OD (DRW-OD-07) was released, and absolutely nothing from DRW-KS has been released.
At this point, it seems that BMG is now focused on their shiny new LoG bobble and is ignoring their previous commitments.
Fedifensor and @daring forum, I'm passing on your requests for PO updates.
Something that came up in DC channel- if an adventure has multiple endings, it would be nice if we could award a different item for each ending, versus the current Hoard/Lair option. Not just to encourage replayability, but also flavor that the endings have consequences as it were. As of now, it feels like you need the lair option, but a lot of monsters lack criteria for lairs, thereby locking things into a linear ending.
It only hit me because my current T2 DC can have three different outcomes based on how the party approaches the final combat, and the flavor of three different items based on which ending the earned felt thematic.
I see that Tavern Rats has different codes to be run for Forgotten Realms, Dragonlance, Eberron, and Ravenloft. Do I have to run just one even though the only thing that changes is the magic item?
(Edit: Seemingly resolved)
To give context for the above question, the query is regarding an adventure that appears to have been written once and then released multiple times, one for Forgotten Realms Campaign, one for Eberron, one for Dragonlance etc. with the only difference being the magic item awarded.
I cannot confirm if any further details such as location are different, only the FR one (wait, and the DL one, it's the same, it even still says "this adventure occurs in the forgotten realms" in the Dragonlance version) has a preview and it specifically does not set the adventure in any specific location beyond "a local tavern somewhere", and gives no characteristics to NPCs or the location, beyond telling the DM to make up whatever they want.
There's some more discussion about it here if it helps #al-dm-discussion message
To me, it seems like the sort of thing that probably should be allowed, but might need a bit of mention in the new DC rules document to note any required changes.
Making a request to allow Astarion's Book of Hunger and/or Van Richten's Guide to Ravenloft(Species) legal in the Eberron campaign. They fit in well as being from Karnath
Fedifensor and @daring forum, we don't currently have inactive POs. Even if it's been a while, they still plan to design adventures for their exclusive areas. If you're looking for new PO content, BMG just uploaded 12 new DRW and DL titles.

I'll pass on your DC request to allow for adventures with multiple ending to reward different items.
Is there not a difference between "designing" and "publishing?" I think BMG has made it pretty clear they are not writing for AL anymore--these drops are long-overdue releases of already-written work.
Editing to add:
I figure they still count as a PO of LoG content, however, can't the Moonshaes be freed up if there is no longer an intention to write there?
per the Baldman in May 2025:
"Nope. I am done with AL. XP Tracks are still there - they will just be the new LoG campaign instead of AL going forward. Everything needs a refresh and restart eventually and a new core rules set is the perfect time to do so.
You'll still see some AL at VDDW as long as there are a few DMs willing to run them. We will not be focusing on it or creating content for AL anymore and will be actively creating new LoG content just for VDDWs. So you'll see a shift there as well - it will just be a little slower to start."
(bolding mine)
He's been incredibly clear that BMG is done with AL, and as Sunny_d says, the mods published recently have been overdue for at least a year if not longer for some
Kael and @left plover I'm passing on your request for DC guidance on releasing an adventure for different campaigns.
I'm passing on your request to allow ABoH and VRGtR for the EB campaign.
BMG has said themselves they are done with AL and will not be producing any more new content. Kael pulled the quote, here's the link to it: #1231291804196802701 message
The releases this week from BMG were all long overdue. It's not "new content", it's year-old content finally getting released.
Unless they backtrack on their public statements of not producing more AL content, then there won't be any new content (ie. created today going forward) that's located in the Moonshaes.
I think that is the definition of "inactive".
ya we are probably going to backtrack on that a little bit - my Moonshae crew cornered me over the summer (now that they are doing bundles and such of Rising Shadows) and REALLY wanted to revisit the Moonshaes (especially with the new FR book last fall) - so it is all in their court but don't be suprised to see something go up on occassion from them.
I would like to recommend a caveat be added to the ALPG regarding redundant proficiencies. While D&D Beyond is not a rule source, it is an official tool owned by WotC. The current character creator defaults to allowing characters to pick replacement proficiencies when duplicates occur potentially resulting in many AL characters who have already replaced redundant proficiencies.
Additionally, the 2014 PHB stated that if a player has a character with redundant proficiencies the player can opt to choose a different proficiency. The 2024 PHB has no such wording but in a home game a DM could just make a decision to allow the player to choose a new proficiency.
Example: I am building a mastermind rogue. The rogue gives proficiency in Thieves Can’t and Mastermind gives proficiency in Disguise Kit. Part of the build requires that I take the Harper Origin feat which provides proficiency in both Thieves Cant and Disguise Kits. I am unable to create a build that avoids redundancies and the D&D Beyond character creator prompts me to pick a new tool proficiency
For at least a portion of us, most of the animosity toward this situation comes from the fact that BMG has managed to still keep exclusive rights to a bunch of magic items for years now, essentially locking AL into a pay-to-win experience. Finally publishing their modules (years late) helps mitigate this somewhat, but it's still not nearly enough of a solution considering they're 99% out of the AL space anyway. Opening up the next DC document to include magic item rewards of all rarities from Fizban's, Bigby's, Book of Many Things, Heroes of Faerun, and whatever else has come out these last few years would do a lot more to appease people IMO.
It would be tragic for history to repeat itself.
I’m a little feverish after getting my vaccine level ups. At the risk of not thinking clearly, I’ll save my responses to posts until Monday, when I’m sure I’ll feel 💯!
Take kind care of yourselves and good adventuring!
Hi! Could I have a private thread created to follow up on an Epic support request? Thanks in advance!
Howdy, I submitted a DDAL event submissions request on the Wizards website as I have done in the past for an Epic, and was told:
*Thank you for contacting Wizards of the Coast Customer Support and for your interest in Adventurers League!
At this time Customer Support is limited to providing information currently available to the public through announcements, articles, and what is available on the D&D Adventurers League Site.
We would encourage you to reach out on the D&D Adventurers League Discord channel on the Official D&D Discord server with any further questions or concerns surrounding Adventurers League.*
Did my request for an epic get misdirected or is there a new process that I have missed?
It appears that your submission somehow went to a different department.
Please try resubmitting your request, making sure the first dropdown menu has "D&D Adventurers League Event Submissions" selected.
It was but I’ll try again.
If you're confident it was, never mind about resubmitting. Just ignore the message. I'll pass on the confusion it causes and try to get it figured out.
RE: Revenant Blade query from above.
What is the status of Half-elves? From what I see in the ALPG, Half-elf (from PHB2014) is not permitted, but the half-elf variants from SCAG are.
Can this be clarified please?
Is it that half-elves are allowed in FR, and only when using a variant? Or something else?
The Revenant Blade feat was accidentally omitted from the table, once we went to that format. Eberron: Rising from the Last War's "F" will be added to the next ALPG update.
I think I understand what you're doing, but I want to make it clear for any other readers of this post--Wayfarer's Guide to Eberron is not an available source, so the Valenar High Elf from that book is not an available character option.
Thank you for catching that omission!
correct, was not using wge, just wood elf with flavoring
I haven't heard an update on this question yet.
Then what do I tell the player, that shows up at my table today ready to play a half-elf? Let them play with it, or no?
With this ambiguity, is there not enough evidence to say they're allowed, or is there not enough evidence to say they're forbidden?
Personally, I've been telling them that the default PHB half elves aren't allowed but the SCAG variants still are if it's FR. Since that's what the documents currently say. (Yes I know some of the mechanics are awkward, but that doesn't change what the rules say. Half sea elf works fine, the rest are varying amounts of make it work)
Whether that's what's actually supposed to be allowed is a different question imo. Though honestly, I also still want the PHB ones back. WotCs stance that picking one parent for mechanics and flavoring the rest is good enough bothers me on a number of levels.
It is strange because it talks about applying changes in a sidebar to a base species that doesn't exist anymore in AL
Rip the band-aid off. Get rid of half-elves.
Hello! Could I request a private thread to follow up on a request for epic support please? Thank you!
Requesting a private thread for event support, please.
Are downtime activities and quests available to DMs as rewards via Gain Rewards as If Player?
Example for quests: if someone DMed DMM Sargauth level and their players completed step 1 of the House Moonstar quest, would the DM’s character also be able to say they have completed the quest if they used Gain Rewards as if Player
Example 2: if the DM ran Vanrakdoom and gained rewards as if player on a character who completed the quest in Sargauth, would the DM gain the downtime activity to trade with House Moonstar?
There is a long discussion of this in #al-dm-discussion message. I would point out that we have Service Rewards for a reason, and to deny what is a standard part of playing an adventure or a sequence of adventures will discourage DMs from running this hardcover module. It's a lot of work to set up a proper run through of the hardcover that offers the quest path, and to deny the DM the reward that all successful players receive goes against the spirit of the Gain Rewards as a Player service reward.
serious question: what is the hold up for the new dungeoncraft document to be released? it has been nearly 8 months
So, If it isn’t too late to make requests for dc rewards (and tell us if it is), I was thinking of making a request for VR from Fizban in Dragonlance because there is a real feeling (at least I’ve felt it) to not bother making tier 3 Dragonlance because of a severe temptation to downgrade player rewards for defeating the adult dragons. bigby’s VR in eberron (xen’drik, need I say more)and maybe up to rare bigby’s in spelljammer (I feel that spelljammer really needs more item replacements) with a special caveat against the guns (as much as I want to make only those two an exception, I don’t think will happen.) and VR BoMT in ravenloft (it fits, and currently the only extra item you can give in ravenloft turns pcs into NPCs under the dm’s control due to changes in how werewolf works.)
Shiranui and @echo sky, I'm investigating this so we can add clarity to the next Service Awards doc update.
I don't have an eta for the next DC Design Guide update, yet. I'll pass on your request to add R and VR magic items (Fizban for DL, Bigby's for EB and SJ, BoMT for RV).
Any word on Convention Support Request #4926214? I sent an email to Claire about something else and I got a canned response from someone who plays Magic The Gathering.
I haven’t heard anything at all in response to our support request and am a little concerned that something might have happened to Claire. She's always crazy prompt about such things.
Any help would be much appreciated!

FWIW, this is not the first, second, or even third time on my radar [who knows how many more instances of which I am unaware] of correctly-submitted AL support requests being sent to the MTG office. It’s a sincere issue!
It seems like the DC Creator Pack on the "D&D Adventurers League Resources & Links" page is from 2023.... Is it still OK to use that?
Hi! Following up on our request for event support (#4960230), any word on this please?
Earlier this week I passed on the request to look into this auto response.
Could we connect on this given your current update?
@twilit helm Hello Ma'at - could I please have a private thread for submission 4873204 from 12/5/2025? Thanks so much!
Hello friends!
I’ve got Dice Tower West and WonderCon in march. Might be a bit late to work on.
Hi @twilit helm, we have an event that is starting today (Strategicon / OrcCon)
While I did only submit a week ago for end of May support, I can follow directions to ask about starting a thread for support ticket #4981415 for 1d4Con.
Hi @twilit helm, can i please have an event thread for April
With the new Discord verification, will Dnd and AL be moving to a new platform?
The Discord age verification will only happen on servers with age gating channels or marked as adult-only servers. It is a non-issue here. So at this time, we have no plans on changing platforms.
Age verification will also be required to run "stage" voice channels, which won't affect users but could affect moderators/WOTC staff if those channels are used for live interviews, AMAs, etc.
If I wanted to host AL events at my local comic book store since they don’t yet. How would I go about becoming someone who is allowed to host those kind of events?
Do I just need my local comic-book stores permission and an official AL adventure? Or is there a further process for it?
Hello! I would like a private thread regarding support for an AL Event! @twilit helm Our event is on June the 7th
@twilit helm - thank you for helping us out while Claire is away! Requesting a private thread for event support please. I will be out of town for two weeks after today, but was hoping to get the thread started. My event is April 23rd-26th. I submitted via the online portal on Jan 10th.
@twilit helm Hello Im also requesting for a private thread for an event. Our event is for April 11 Thank you very much
@twilit helm Hello! Requesting a private thread for an event on April 12th. Thanks!
Currently the latest events I'm working on are for April. If I finish those, before Claire's return, then I'll make another announcement.
@mighty yacht See above.
Can I assume that you're also working on events earlier than April? Because my request is for an event on March.
So sorry I wasn't able to help with your ticket before your event.
Ok
Can we request that Epics from past seasons be made freely available for communities without having to file event tickets?
The program is already mature enough that most everyone has probably played Epics from Season 9 and earlier at least once, and it may help reduce the load on the admin team if approvals were no longer required to organize them.
This - so much this.
Understood.
In the Dungeoncraft guidelines, can we have a stipulation about allowing non reprinted features to be permissible in adjusting encounters? MPMM has some good sharable features (like cult of... Features) that is overridden by DMG 2024 and it would be a great addition to flavors in DCs
Hi! I'd like to ask if we could possibly have a change for the DC Design Guide rule on APLs for the upcoming new DC Design Guide release, to either remove it or give better guidance within the document as to how to accomodate it.
Currently, there is a clause on having compulsory APLs for written mods in the DC Guide:
Adventure APL. Adventures are created for a specific tier and APL. The APL for Tier 1 adventures (levels 1-4) is APL 3, for Tier 2 (levels 5-10) it is APL 8, Tier 3 (levels 11-16) it is APL 13, and for Tier 4 (levels 17-20) it is APL 18.
— From the DC Design Guide Version 1.9c, pg 2
My community has been writing more beginner mods, and that includes needing levels 1 and 5. While we have been including edits in the mods themselves for balancing down from APLs 3/8 respectively into 1/5, this has been a clunky process with a lot of side bars. I'm especially asking this for introductory mods, which would greatly benefit from being listed as APL 1.
Our experience has been that players like to sign up for mods partially based on what they percieve the difficulty to be, and new players have stayed away from DC mods because they're listed or shown to be APL 3, even if it's a beginner's mod. It also lets DMs make more informed decisions in purchasing modules on the DMsGuild.
Alright, I heard you! Could I at least let you guys know ahead of time that we'll be running DDEP07-02 Drums of the Dead? In case the sessions change again 😁
Did you get an answer to this? I'm in the same boat - my local game store doesn't have any AL connections yet. I'd like to explore the idea of running either AL or LOG adventures now and then, but it's really hard to find any info on how to start from scratch!
When you have a chance, could you look into Convention support requests #4921014 and #4922200? The first one initially got "we don't support that" response from magic-support@wizards.com, so the second request was submitted. The convention is this coming up weekend. Thanks for all that you do!
Please add the word "Special" where appropriate to clarify that only villains encountered in ther Special Lairs, as per Monster Manual (2025) may yeld a Hoard option for rewards. Thank you.
As an editor, I'd call out listing "special" in the description of every lair is the type of thing that should be changed to avoid repetitive writing.
Instead, I recommend broadening the definition of lair, as many designers have creative ways to make things happen in a boss fight other than just rolling dice and doing as much damage to monsters as possible.
How is it good to restrict the best loot to adventures that just offer a narrow range of combats at the end?
Be creative, but follow the DC Design Rules for Special Lairs and Hoard Rewards. Not all "lairs" are created equal. And... it's not about the loot.
@twilit helm can we get an official admin clarification on the definition of a lair as described in the hoard treasure option means for the purpose of DC authorship?
Does lair imply:
a) The lair as the environment of a monster with lair actions
or
b) A lair as the thematically appropriate location of a boss monster you fight that has a listed treasure entry in their stat block?
Some clarity on this would help, especially since it will affect the already published work of some active and respected authors in the community.
I know this is going to be stupid question, but what is the 3 group hex code we got at the end of an adventure ?
or...
(C) "Lair" as described alongside the "Treasure" heading in the "Monster Entries" portion of the Introduction in the Monster Manual, as these are concrete and specific rules headers that align with language used in the DC 1.9 document https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dnd/mm-2024/how-to-use-a-monster#Treasure
I will save the above requests for DC Design Guide updates for after I get caught up on helping Claire with event support.
If your tempted to add more requests for this issue, please start your discussion in #al-dungeoncraft and then one person compile a summarized request here.
As much as I have a vested interest in resolving this, as someone who edits over a dozen adventures a year, can I request an update to service rewards be a higher priority if the admin team is stretched thin?
That's going to affect a broader set of the community.
As someone who is trying to improve the DM to Player ratio at our FLGS, I'd love to see this too. Just wasn't sure where the priorities lay in maintaining the AL ecosystem and didn't want to be pushy (which I've been guilty of in the past and apologise for).
Hello Ma'at, the request about DC is based on DC v1.9c page 3:
Hoard/Lair Reward Option (4-hour adventures only). If the villain is fought in its lair and the creature used has a Treasure listed (some creatures don’t) then you can offer more than one item.
The major point of conflict is there are two different understandings on Lair.
- Some understand Lair as Special Lair (a key word in MM), which limit the Hoard option to monsters that have Lair Actions only.
- The other side understand Lair as Base of operation (a board term in English), which allow the Hoard option applicable to any monster that has a treasure tag (Any, Arcana, Armaments, Implements, and Relics).
Hence writers seek AL admin clarification.
Additional information:
- The origin of the discussion came from another server but brought to #al-dungeoncraft message after the questions in #al-admin-questions message
- A vote for community opinions is here: #al-dungeoncraft message
As a followup on the lair designation, the DC v1.9c writeup does not capitalize 'lair', which is the default in 2024 to designate specific mechanical effects (e.g. Advantage, Emanation, Short Rest, etc). The Monster Manual 2025 does not list 'lair' under Parts of a Stat Block, and the only uses of the word are under Monster Entries as a subset of the Special Lairs entry ("The monster's stat block might also include ways in which the monster is more powerful while in its lair.")
There is nothing in the formal monster entry to specify whether a creature has a lair other than specific writeups for a few creatures (like the Arch-Hag). The lack of a special lair mechanical effect does not prevent a creature from having a normal lair. Indeed, the Troll writeup says, "Trolls creep forth to prey on smaller creatures and drag captives back to festering lairs." There is no Special Lair rules or any other mention of lair in the Troll writeup on page 310 of the MM 2025.
It is reasonable to conclude based on this that there is no direct mechanical effect tied to lair, and special lairs are simply an enhancement for a few select creatures without being prevalent enough to be a part of the normal stat block structure.
@twilit helm
What's not being said is this: There are financial incentives at play in the DC program. What some people believe to be "creative", others believe to be "unethical."
Some authors have already published adventures using a risky and expansive definition of "lair" to populate all of them with hoard loot options, in part to sell more copies. There are those in the AL community who refuse to accept rewards from those adventures so character logs don't get corrupted with bad information which may need to be retroactively changed.
Other authors are strictly adhering to the Special Lair rules from the Monster Manual when they design and publish. This is the most clean interpretation of the guidelines so they do not have to deal with any retroactive editing and republishing on DMSGuild.
This policy decision should not be an instance where the AL team follows what seems to be most popular by a snap poll. You all must do what you believe is right. "Move fast, break things" (including DC guidelines) doesn't necessarily apply here. We are all watching this issue closely.
^^^ I do believe this is just an instance where the community has requested clarification of AL admin’s intent of the DC guide language, since it is up to multiple interpretations as currently worded. No poll necessary since it’s not a request for rules updates (well, a poll would be appropriate for community-requested rules changes, such a request would just be a new and separate issue than the initial broaching of this topic)
A summary of Requests:
- Clarify the current rule in DC Design Guide v1.9c, what does "lair" refer to.
1a. As "Special Lairs" described in MM?
1b. As layman understanding of "lair"?
1c. something else? - A Draft process for future update (which v1.8 didn't have but was later implemented and welcomed in the update of ALAG / ALDMG / ALPG v2026.2).
- (Slightly off topic but related) An update to the style guide (template that match 2024 rulebooks).
- (More off topic but also a highly demanded request) An update to Service awards.
Link to more information: #al-dungeoncraft message
(Edited to fix bullet points)
Noah suggested the rules change two messages before Jason even popped in. I suggested it in the al-dungeoncraft channel as well. TTJiong opened the poll in response and it became part of the discussion. So I do think there is a request for a rules update, actually.
Hello!
I'll would like to run a Al season on my local cafetería store, here in Guayaquil - Ecuador, but I'll like to make it official, is there a protocol that I've have to follow?
Potion Purchasing Question: Are there any restrictions on which book potions can be selected from when buying? I assume we're limited to sources legal for the setting (so no buying stuff from Eberon or Strixhaven on a FR character), but, for instance, can I buy a Bottled Breath potion from Princes of the Apocalypse?
Hey, good evening, i play on a local discord server, they advertised they would be adhering to AL since the end of last year, and it's my first contact with AL at all
this has been a fun experience, but sometimes i get confused about rulings
my main question right now is how trading posts work, looking it up online it seems to be something extremely vague and rare, but we have those weekly, which is starting to look suspicious/confusing the more i look into it
Maybe the confusion is normal trading vs trading post events.
See D&D Adventurers League Players Guide v2026.2.pdf, page 3, Downtime, Trading Magic Items which costs 5 downtime days per character in a pair. This can be done at any time you can spend downtime, like between missions. The other character has to have the item you want and your character has to give them an item in return.
Requesting a private thread to discuss an issue, as directed by the dmsguild.com FAQs
it was not the case, it was Trading Post, with limited items and no downtime cost to trade/buy with the dealer
the situation got discussed here #adventurers-league message
looks like nobody used a 🗨️ balloon to indicate that, sorry
Given the new announcement, I'll renew my request for 1d4Con at the end of May.
@twilit helm Per you message in al-news-updates, I'd like to request a private thread to discuss support for a convention coming up in June (MAGE Con).
I, too, would like to open a thread for event support following today's announcement (also in June).
In light of recent announcements at GAMA by WotC in relation to upcoming developments and a new D&D Encounters program, can we get more clarity on what to expect for AL and future support?
@twilit helm Would also like a thread about an Event in June, thank you.
@twilit helm I would like to start a thread about June as well! 😊
@twilit helm I Would like to start a Thread I have an event on the 14th and need some of the documents
Can we just start referring in our events and our DCs to 5.5 instead 2024 please?
Request for a private thread to discuss charity event mid June
AL documentation currently uses, for example, PH and PH 2014. Or Player's Handbook and Player's Handbook (2014).
Hey @twilit helm, if you have the capacity I'd love to request a Thread to discuss an epic planned for May 30th
I have a certificate with a number on it, given to me by my DM. What do I do with this certificate?
Hi @twilit helm, I'd like to request a thread to make a request for an epic in June 🙇
Currently the Iron Flask is only listed under the Unspecified DM Choice Effects section of the Unavailable Magic Item Criteria table, but historically the item was banned outright. The table mentions that items may fit inside multiple criteria, but without a ruling this can be open to different interpretations.
Basically, does the Iron Flask also fall into the Harms Player Character category and also potentially the Otherwise Disruptive category thus preventing it from being rewarded.
I'll add on to this by mentioning that there are, to my knowledge, two hardcover locations where an Iron Flask drops, and in both cases the creature inside it is specified. One could arguably qualify as a Story Item (the one in ||Storm King's Thunder||) but the other (in ||Descent Into Avernus||) definitely doesn't.
Edit: I've been informed there's one in ||Turn of Fortune's Wheel|| as well, so three locations, and that one is specifically empty.
Quest from the Infinite Staircase also drops Iron Flask
@twilit helm can I get another private channel for my early June event support request please?
Is there a place on this server to post a message looking for players in a specific commutable locale at a specific day and time?
See #find-a-game to see how to post for such things.
If it isn't possible through the options there, it is not allowed on this server.
Howdy @twilit helm I'd like to request a thread for a May Epic event
Hi @twilit helm , looking for support for a May event, please! (And please, if you can ping me when you create the thread, would be much appreciated c: )
Hey @twilit helm 🙂 I would like to request a thread to discuss an epic for June.
Hello @twilit helm , would like to request a thread for epic event, June or July date
Hi @twilit helm May I suggest opening up the 'Gain Rewards as if you had been a Player' option to be repeatable? At least the wait for the service award isn't as painful as now. I, for one, am not willing to spend much of my service hours on the 50k gp and consumables reward, and so I am hogging all these hours with no where to use for months. It also incentivize the DM to run more games and I believe this also alleviates the pressure off the team in some ways with lesser supporters asking for updates.
3/25 - 5/6 Time-off
Just a heads up, I have a surgery soon and will be taking off 6 weeks for my recovery, starting the 25th of this month. @fiery bay will be keeping an eye on this channel as she can, while I'm away.
I'll work my best to catch up on event support (focusing on March - July events) and questions here, before I go.
Mwaha. Err. I mean, I will try to keep things in order for @twilit helm when they return. ❤️
So whats your opinion on "insert controversial AL topic here"? (Lets see if the community can weasel some of its long term desires out of the relief teacher...)
Did you happen to get anything back yet about this? I've specifically been holding off because it feels similar to half elves but this is also different
Can we get an update post before you leave addressing the status of current issues and rough estimates of when they will be addressed? An example is the next Service Rewards document, which is currently overdue.
My kids run weekly dnd sessions for under 16s at a local gaming store. What resources are available (adventures wise, they have all of the 2024 books)
Ludi and @echo sky I'm focussing my remaining time on event submissions and answering questions in this channel. But I can't give you an estimate on when guidance updates will be ready. With Claire and my absences adding to Toni and Greg's workloads, I don't foresee guidance updates being complete in the next few months. I'll have a better idea when I return.
Luckily the Service Rewards document has a provision for that.
Mainly a lurker here and apologies for not posting a question, but thank you Ma’at for everything you do and the covering of Claire’s responsibilities. Regardless of my likes or dislikes on particular things I (and I think many others) appreciate your work incredibly for this community.
Ma’at, would you be able to find an answer to this before your break:
Thank you
Not yet.
Shiranui, @pure raft, and @marble wadi I'll add the Iron Flask to the list of AL admin discussions, requesting ALPG clarity (If the Iron Flask specifies the creature contained, is it rewardable or does it have properties that could also fall into the "Harms Player Character" category? Should it be moved to "Otherwise Disruptive?").
I have [not received any new news](#al-rules-compendium message) about changes to AL.
I've added the clarity request on "lairs" meaning for the next DC Design Guide. We will use the new file naming format (v2026.#). But AL admin are not updating the style template; WotC is working on that and we'll pass it on when we have it.
I'm logging off for the day. I started answering questions backwards, from the bottom up. I'll start [here](#al-admin-questions message) Monday.
Can we get any updates of the Future of AL statement?
@twilit helm Hi Ma'at, can we get a private channel for May Kublacon?
Hello @twilit helm , would like to request a thread for epic event in June
@twilit helm Just wanted to drop a note to say best of luck on your surgery and recovery, and may they both be as smooth as is possible.
There are currently some epics available on DMsGuild that don't need event organizers to request support. I'll put in your request that more be publicly available.
Ok, I think I'm caught up here.
For
questions, I don't have any AL admin decisions and we (AL admin) don't have time to discuss them, especially with half the team being on leave (me as one of those people). Guidance updates and decisions will most likely wait until my return.
I'm taking a lunch, but I'll come back in roughly an hour for one more peek, before I log off for leave.
If the Dungeoncraft document truly won’t be updated until Ma’at has fully recovered (and I Wish for him to be blessed with a Greater Restoration sooner rather than later), could we please get some guidance in the meantime on how we should be specifying magic items like the prayer beads, ring of spell storing, and moonblade?
Thank you for your well wishes!
The current guidance is, while the DC Design Guide is lacking guidance on Unspecified magic items, we choose different rewards for the adventures we design. We (designers) cannot specify magic items yet.
Whelp, goodbye Ninth Level spell slot, hello wish exhaution. one more thing, do you think the dungeoncraft document will be released within the next week or so? by which I mean will it be released while you are recovering.
I'm sorry. Our absences didn't leave much, if any, time to prepare for the remaining guidance updates. #al-admin-questions message
Thank you for all that you and @finite tree do! ❤️
Thank you all for your kindness, well wishes, and for all y'all do for the community!
I'm out of the office from now through May 6th
@fiery bay will check in here, as she's able.
While Claire and I are out, she and Greg will have their plates extra full. Please consult the current guides ( #1309594376275759104 ), #al-rules-compendium , and other al-channels before asking questions here.
Guidance updates and AL admin team decisions will likely need to wait until Claire and/or I return.

Really disappointed to see the rule about attunement of magic items of controlled creatures counting agains the character's limit returning. Removing that rule and bringing the AL rules closer to how D&D is played in the wider world was a good thing. All such draconian fun-policing rules that interfere with the ordinary way that D&D is played because players can't possibly be trusted should be banished from AL. It will make AL a simpler, easier to run, and more welcoming organized play campaign for players who just want to play D&D as they have read it. Want to include advice about how to mitigate problematic issues as a DM? Great! But don't bloat AL due to hand wringing over this or that perceived bit of wrong-fun.
Can we use the new magic items in the 5.5e Eberron book in our Eberron Dungeoncraft?
In the next Adaptation guide update, could admin team please consider making Ghost of Saltmarsh available for Eberron? I know it's technically a Greyhawk adventure anthology, but each of the chapter's adventure summary comes with guidance about how to adapt it to both FR and Eberron. If FR was allowed based on the guidance, I don't see why we can't make a exception for Eberron as well.
Plus it would help with the shortage of adventures for Eberron (compared to FR)
Just dipping in to say my surgery went well and I’m A-Ok! I got successes on all my Constitution checks so far, so I should be back and feeling awesome in 6 weeks.
Is there any information available yet pertaining to the upcoming Encounters program that is supposedly starting next month with the new Seasons (Season of Horror is supposed to run April-June, so it's just around the corners)? Maybe a player/dms guide for it?
Hi @twilit helm @fiery bay , We would like to request a private thread to submit for an upcoming AL Charity Event for support

@fiery bay so, what are the consumables in fizban’s that are allowed in the dungeoncraft document, because the only consumable in the book is a legendary, and we can only give up to rare. I had the thought that it was dragon wrath weapon as ammo, but that has been thoroughly debunked as a not likely. This goes out to @twilit helm as well
Why are half-elf and half-orc banned in adventures league
Please DM me the information. We are working on a better process for this in the future but for now, this is the best way to do so! 🙂
Unfortunately, if the only consumable in Fizban’s is legendary you are not able to give it out, for the exact reason you state. You can’t give out anything more than rare.
the trouble is that it's confusing why Fizban's is even on the list of allowed consumables sources, if its single consumable is too high rarity to reward 😓 we had a discussion on it starting here #al-dungeoncraft message
one good speculation was that it allows for rewarding of spell scrolls with Fizban's spells. would that be necessary though, for spells from sources that are already allowed in the campaign? if so, that at least provides a simple explanation 😅 and something to keep in mind for feedback on the next few rounds of drafts
i wondered if Bigby's might have been intended for the consumables list, since it has one Rare consumable, the Glowrune Pigment?
looking further at spell sources:
Setting-books providing spells are: Heroes of Faerun, Eberron: Forge of the Artificer (just Homunculus Servant though), Planescape, and Spelljammer. Sourcebooks not specific to a setting, which provide spells, are: Book of Many Things, Fizban's Treasury of Dragons, Xanathar's Guide to Everything, and Tasha's Cauldron of Everything
Planescape and Spelljammer don't have any consumables in their new magic items, but are listed as consumable sources for their respective campaigns; this and the above does seem to support the idea that the list of consumables sources is also meant to cover spells that could be included in a spell scroll or other consumable 🤔
if that's the case, then:
- we probably need to wait on including any scrolls with spells from Heroes of Faerun, until that can be added to consumable options for the Forgotten Realms campaign
- Fizban's should probably be added to the consumables list for Planescape and Spelljammer? since all the other campaigns have it
TLDR: it would be good to have confirmation on whether or not the consumables list for a campaign also limits the sources for spells that can be rewarded in a scroll etc.
OR, we could just use this from the general Rewards explanation? like Ravenloft basically does.
Consumables can be from any allowed resource for that campaign.
On the D&D Beyond Organized Play Update: Forgotten Realms, does the Equipment section in Heroes of Faerûn count as a character option? There has been a lot of ambiguity around whether it is allowed, and the community has gone back and forth on it. An official confirmation would help clear this up.
@twilit helm Hello Ma'at.
I'm from a German community that regularly hosts Epics on our server for various charity organizations. This year we’re donating to the German cancer foundation (Deutsche Krebshilfe).
I am not usually in charge for organizing, but the person who is has recently not been able to continue, due to family matters, and I’ve taken over intermediary.
I would like to ask, if there’d be a way to award a special certificate or reward for the many people who have come forth last minute and help get this event done. I wasn’t sure if this is the right place to ask, but i figured it’s worth a try.
We’re running the new Epic BMG_DRWEP_KS_01_The Siege of Mulsantir
Hello, i have an LGS and a decent community of DnD players, some have asked me about hosting official AL sessions and appearing in the store locator but are there actually anything for LGS to make that happen? or is it just a "just host it and advertise in lgs page" kinda thing, mostly asking because we are already a WPN store
Hello, @fiery bay #al-admin-questions message sorry for the tag here.
Here’s the detailed information I submitted for the event application.
It’s been about two weeks, but I haven’t seen a personal discussion thread yet.
If you need any additional information from me, please let me know. Thank you!
@twilit helm Can I please have a private thread for an event in July 2026, Thanks. Richard
@fiery bay Can I please have a private thread for an event in July 2026. Thanks, Richard
With the new Ravenloft Book releasing soon, I had 2 questions.
-
When can we expect to learn anything more about the Eberron Species in other settings?
-
When will a new Service Reward document be available?
Two questions from my previous session: Do assistant DMs get service hours? Are sentient magic items available to AL players?
Hello. Not sure if this is the right thread. The folks who ran A.L. at our local Con are not able to continue and a group of us are consiidering stepping up. Is there anyone who can provide any information on ehat we need to do to make the event official A.L. ? Any advice would be helpful
Can someone plz ask me how I'm meant to balance out a campaign between level 5's and level 1's ??
You don’t they are different tiers.
I'm pretty sure they could potentially in a hardcover. It would be an unusual situation, but it's possible.
Cleaning up some off-topic 🧹
Thanks for your help folks!
I want to know what a rouge in locks at level 2
What up! My question is what’s the easiest way to play organized? I’m aware some use paper notes or character sheets but I’m using D&D Beyond & created my first and only character(for now) Anyone use that app here too?
@fiery bay do the Draconic gifts from Fizban count as blessings (in which case they would be unawardable) or as uncommon+ magic items (since they have a rarity listed, in which case Dragonlance dc could award some of them)
Is there any chance we will see updated Dungeon Craft Documents this year? The entirety of the 2024 Core Sourcebooks is released for over a year and people still only have 2014 Guidance Documents.
I'm back and doing well since my surgery! I hope you're all well!
I'll work on getting caught up in this channel and with the other AL admin (including any changes to the event support process and figuring out needed guidance updates).
I'm already seeing that a lot of the questions here were answered by you. Thank you so much for that!
No. We must use the most current Dungeoncraft guidance. Once I catch up with the AL admin team, I'll ask about updating the DC Design Guide and give y'all an ETA as soon as I know.
Since questions about updating the template come up often when talking about DC guidance updates: AL admin don't update the template; that's done by WotC. I'll let you know if I hear anything about that.
With the release of Elemental Evil Rising (which rocks btw) do we know / can we know what Legends of Greyhawk Con support entails currently? I have thoughts on what would be cool, but as far as I know we haven't heard specifics.
I'll investigate!
Hi Ma'at!
Welcome Back.
We just got a new announcement about an additional source (#dnd-announcements message), which is official content (#ddb-drops message), but needs AL-Admin guidance (#ddb-drops message)
is it AL legal?
We think it's covered in the setting neutral rules on page 9 of the ALPG, but are unsure.
If you are deliberating on it, can we request that we don't bloat our rules with DDB subscriber only content please.
I would request you don't speak for everybody on that last point. I don't play much D&D outside of AL and would very much like to use the content I'm paying for.
maybe it could be Optional Content, like the Potion Miscibility Table and Circle Magic? otherwise i prefer it not be included
Hello @twilit helm glad that you are recovering well.
I have a question about event trading post. I see another server have their Epic set in June but they started their trading post today and open until the event. Players can trade daily from today until the event. My understanding is that trading post should be held on the day(s) of event, is that my misunderstanding? Can trading post be opened ahead of the event?
I guess I don’t understand how officially-produced, digital-only, subscription-based content somehow undermines or overly complicates a program that relies heavily on the continued purchase of new community-produced, digital-mostly, à la carte-based content?
I know I want my players to have as many options as they want. And I want the DC creators also to have as many options as possible in crafting their adventures. I know there will be balance issues, but we already deal with that. I know it is an added cost, but, again, we already deal with that. It isn’t like we tell players who have earned items from adventures we don’t own that they can’t bring those items to the table, right? So, again, I don’t understand why we wouldn’t want to use appropriate, officially-produced material just because it is DDB-subscription-based.
Before anyone else adds to this discussion:
One or two requests on a topic (with folks chiming in with emojis) doesn't overwhelm this channel. But discussions can get long and lost here.
I want to hear everyone's thoughts. The most helpful way to do that is to move discussions to one of the other AL channels. When the discussion dies down, please have one person come back here with a summary and link to the discussion.
Thank you!
For a summary, I'd start here #adventurers-league message with the AMA statement from WotC Brian Perry that drops aren't AL legal and the ensuing discussion about how the current rules don't make that clear. You can scroll up if you want to see the earlier discussion about pros and cons on drops being AL legal (it's been going since yesterday starting about here #adventurers-league message), but if the AMA is an official answer, that matters less imo. There are reasons on both sides, but if I try to summarize I won't be neutral because I'm firmly in the no group.
Here is a summary of the debate and the common arguments for and against, I have seen.
The arguments against it being AL.
- The nature of the release of the content creating some issues with accessibility, due to its nature this content would be less available to the community at large then any other content to date.
- Some general disliking the sub model in general especially in an OP program.
- A worry around the amount of content the program is likely to create, and the potential quality of that content, potentially putting additional strain on Admin and DMs to keep up.
The argument for it being part of AL.
- That people want to be able to use stuff they are paying for, that would be otherwise AL legal under the current rules.
- That more content is better then less content, more options are preferred, and this would provide more options, that in their opinion wouldn't cause any more issues then any other content release.
Hey Ma'at.
There used to be a ruling in the FAQ that players could choose lower rarity items when given a magic item choice (for example, when KGV rewards a Rare item of choice, a player could choose Uncommon instead). That rule seems to have disappeared with the loss of the FAQ.
The current rules say the player choice item has to be "tier-appropriate" but doesn't give allowances for taking a lower rarity item than an adventure reward directs (or even a lower rarity item than listed for your tier on a free choice unless you interpret the Maximum label that way). Can that clarification be added back in? We've gotten several questions about it recently.
Hey Ma'at. Some people are interpreting this linked message to mean that DC authors aren't allowed to choose anything about an item, including things like weapon or armor types. That is very contrary to my understanding, so are you able to clarify?
The DC rules used to mention that DC authors had to specify weapon and armor types for rewards, but that language doesn't seem to exist in 1.9. Can you confirm whether DC authors are able to choose at least the things listed as allowed DM choices for the Unspecified DM Choice effects? And whether they should be doing so? If DC authors can't specify anything than we're suddenly going to get a lot of "any +# weapon", etc rewards that DMs will have to pick.
And I know it's been said before, but this weird grey area on Unavailable items vs the DC rules is really not tenable. If we're not going to get new DC rules any time soon, can we please get some clarification on that at least? Letting new DCs reward a specific Necklace of Prayer Beads again isn't going to destroy AL.
I have the same question. It seems less special (and a lot more work) to have the trading post open for so long. Having said that, it appears to have encouraged a bump in early donations for the charity event ….
I'll add this to the list of updates needed for the DC Design Guide. I'll let you know when we start working on it and share WIP edits regarding this.
According to the ALPG's "Prepare Before a Session: Mundane Items" you may sell and purchase equipment from FRHoF.
MUNDANE ITEMS
You may sell and purchase campaign-available equipment and spell components, using PH rules.
The ALPG's appendix lists FRHoF, so it's a "campaign available" source.
So that does mean anything listed in the ALPG appendix is a campaign available source for equipment, even adventures? The confusion has occurred because 'Equipment' isn't a specific column on that table and some sources are only listed for things like Backgrounds.
This has implications for the Keys of the Golden Vault rewards too, since that also uses the "campaign available" wording for magic item choices.
Can Artificers choose items to craft or replicate that normally require specification?
Hi Ma'at! (Welcome back!)
My community is running an Epic for June, and we already settled the Trading post and event registration before you left. I did just notice though that the Trading Post organizer's guide currently lists that only Forgotten Realms campaign characters can use the Post.
Unfortunately we've a lot of people who are currently playing in the EB and RV campaigns (with plans for DL as well), and they were hoping that this would be a chance for them to suit up as well, since the Trading post has always been a way to get harder to procure items.
Are there Trading Post for these campagins, or will we potentially ever see a cross-campaign Trading Post? Especially since we plan on running the epics for those campaigns at some point too.
Howdy @twilit helm could I get a thread created for an upcoming event in August?
@twilit helm Now that you have returned from your time off, can we get some estimates on long-delayed actions? Here's a partial list:
- D&D Adventurers League Service Awards 2026 (2025 version expired 12/31/25, still in effect based on text listed under On Your Honor)
- DungeonCraft Design Guide (last updated May 2025 via 1.9b). This includes updates about the out of date template that still reflects the previous version of the D&D rules. The last guidance was given by Claire in April 2025: #al-dungeoncraft message
- Various questions about rules issues from new books, and problems that have arisen from the final version of the most recent ALPG and ALDMG. Examples include the legalities of modules awarding Epic Boons (and the difference between Epic Boons that were not converted into feats versus those that were), using Eberron species and subclasses in other settings (including ones previously legal for AL), and carrying over effects from previous sessions or downtime (Find Familiar, Find Steed, a previous casting of Word of Recall so the spell can be used in a current session, etc).
As Encounters ramps up, is it a good idea to create a separate set of Discord channels for them?
@twilit helm can we finally merge RV campaign into FR campaign just like how FR can play in Planescape or the Feywild and other planes. The Shadowfel needs to be reset into the fold of FR AL, especially with the new season upon us and the new subclasses and races being reprinted comings. If Dhampire is already legal why not the rest?
I humbly ask how do we petition the powers that be, I beseech thee. Let us play and write modules in RV that we can more easily connect with our FR characters, let FR play in those RV mods and vice versa. RV won't grow if it's stuck by itself. Let RV fold into the great FR train. Let the Darklords be free.
That's my understanding too. When we submit for event support, we list the days of our event. If approved, the event support items are used during that date.
I'll add a request that our next AL Organizer's Guide makes this more clear.
I'm preparing for our next AL admin meeting where I'll bring up our need for guidance updates. If I marked your post above with a 🗣️ , then I've noted your guidance update request.
Thank you Ma'at.
The guidance is there; the "Tier-Appropriate Rarities" table header says "Maximum Rarity." Tier-appropriate rarity choices are the maximum rarity and lower.
No. Artificers may not craft or replicate Unavailable magic items. They are unavailable. But I'll see about making that even more clear in the ALPG's "Artificer" section.
There are no plans for EB or RV Trading Posts.
Hey, Ma'at. Related to my other question above. Is it intentional that this ruling would technically stop artificers from crafting or replicating even things like +1 weapons?
"Unspecified DM Choice Effects. Has an unspecified (by encounter or other text) DM choice or roll for which cards, patches, skills, runes, spell levels, or other effect or power (see “Available Exceptions”)" does technically include literally any choice about an item including things like weapon and armor type. That section of the table simply has an exception allowing DMs to choose some things if the adventure/reward doesn't specify.
So, are the effects that DMs can choose are also considered allowable for players to choose as well in some scenarios? Or would crafting/replicating count as "directing the player to choose" as per the Player Choice Item section? The latter does allow for players to choose weapon and armor types.
If players could have the same allowances as DMs for the listed things when crafting/choosing items, that would be the best option in my opinion. That would allow enough choices to keep most items functional while still denying the example list.
An artificer may craft something like a +1 weapon, but not anything from the Unspecified example list.
PS. I'm writing down to update the ALPG so it's more clear that Artificers can use the DM's "Available Exceptions" guidance from that table.
I'd like to propose that nonmagical spellbooks multiply as if they were magic items. In my experience, choosing one player to receive such a spellbook is either moot (if there are no wizards or only one wizard in the party), or potentially awkward (if there are multiple).
The tediousness of deciding this post-session, in my experience, leads it to be forgotten, which leads newer players to believe that spellbooks do multiply, because that is more in line with how rewarded magic items work anyways.
Spellbooks aren't salable equipment, so it doesn't seem like it would unbalance anything if all PCs in the party received an awarded spellbook.
Speaking of which, may I suggest "Quaal’s Feather Token" being removed from the "Unspecified DM Choice Effects" list? Unlike two rods of spell absorption with different spells, or two moonblades with different different runes, different types of feather tokens are distinct items of very different functions. They are more like different type of +1 weapons, and I think that might be where a lot of confusion about the unspecified list came from.
Does DDEP4 count towards the DDAL04 modules in terms of RV characters being able to join appropriate tiers?
Why are these rules not updated on the main dndbeyond website?

I recently joined AL at my local game shop for the first time and the amount of inconsistency in rules is unsettling. Maybe its just the pains of catching up on a growing system... but I'm having a difficult time finding the right resources. Do you guys have access to update or submit an update request for this?
Because it's actually harder than one would expect to update posts on the D&DBeyond website (technology and who has access/permission to post there).
But the latest info can be found here on: #al-news-updates message
