I'm debating the $200 bundle and not sure if the price will go up overtime
I imagine plenty of tables will use a mix of rules for years
While some may stick to one or another
You might want to wait until you know what you're using for your own games
The prices don't generally go up, so the main reason to buy now is if you want the fancy covers
Since those are limited and don't come back around
Not if you buy the fancy covers 😁
Because those books will in fact exist
I own exactly nothing on DDB
And intend to keep it that way
Most is perhaps an overstatement
I may also be in so many shared campaigns that I can look up anything on DDB anyway so it's kind of the best of both worlds
But I'm still gonna buy the fancy covers because I like the art
I was not aware that the covers were limited edition. It's tempting!
Yeah the alt covers are a nice perk D&D gives physical game stores
But they are limited
The downside of getting those is that the later editions will have the errata. But the plus side is pretty art
My game store still has a few alt cover Bigby's and I'm tempted every time I walk in there 😁
Fair enough and lol. I don't know if I've been to my local game stores that would sell special editions. I've got like barnes and noble that's it basically.
Hi, can someone help me figure out how to play the game because I would really like to play with a group but I don’t know how to play so can you help me?
same ^
i’m also in the same boat i would love to play don’t know how and would love to learn

I am looking for a DM
Are you looking for in person, online, or both?
I keep seeing stuff in discussion about a PHB, what is it?
Player's handbook. Basic rules for players and DMS
Honestly didn't know what people were talking about til a couple months into GMIng either lol
For my human fighter outlander's equipment, it lists one of the things as 'martial weapon', should I literally write down 'martial weapon', or should I write down an actual weapon?
Martial Weapon is one of two types of weapons. You write it down under proficiencies, while your actual weapon you write it down under your inventory.
Ok, what are some good martial weapons and are handaxes one of them?
Hi
Hand axes are simple melee weapons, martial weapons are listed here in the basic rules https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dnd/basic-rules-2014/equipment#MartialMeleeWeapons

I see, ty y'all
What kind of weapons do you want to use?
Like a basic sword that I guess I can use while holding a shield in my other hand
Have you got a classic sword and shield? A blade in each hand? Throwing knives? A massive two-handed weapon? A bow?
I’d go with a longsword, then.
I see. thanks again, tuna!

hi me and a group of friends recently built a TV table to play with, any recommendations for programs to use with it?
some i've been looking at are foundryvtt, roll20, and dndbeyond
hiii
Yeah it can be rough this time of year. People are going back to school /university. Once people get settled in with those and the new iteration coming... It should get easier next month.
Hi, i'm trying to make a warlock in dndbeyond, but i only have 1 patron option, is there any way i can fix that ?
Additional options become available if you purchase the Player's Handbook, or supplements such as Tasha's Cauldron or Xanathar's Guide through DDB.
Hey, so i'm new to dnd, ive always wanted to play but never really had friends to play it with. just wondering where to start
#third-party would be the best place to ask, but I'd recommend Maps on D&D Beyond (that's what I use)
Hi! I am still learning pretty much the basics and i was wondering whether there was a term to talk about D&D campaigns that are using miniatures and dioramas.
Like if there’s a “Classic D&D” and a “something something D&D”
Thank you so much
You know, I can't think of one that I would say is generally used. Playing without accessories is often called "theatre of the mind" style play, where descriptions are used rather than maps and minis.
Certainly if you say, "I play D&D with maps and minis" anyone who knows RPGs will understand.
Hiya, I made my first character today, and I was wondering if anyone had any advice for a knew player, because I’ll be honest I have no clue what I’m doing lmao
Have a read through the basic rules, here: https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dnd/basic-rules-2014
Part 1 covers character creation and Part 2 covers playing the game

#looking-for-players can help you find a game. You might have to convert the times yourself - not everyone uses Discord timestamps - but it's worth looking around.
I see thnx for the tip
oh yeah are you willing to play with someone thats not willing to actually talk in vc or is that needed for you
thanks
I prefer text instead. doesn't know how to roll 20🥲
i joined my older cousin's campaign and we usually use dndbeyond
its an app, its also a website if youre on pc
Same but I only use it for guides and characters
Rarely BC I use a character sheet pdf for characters
yippee!!
How can I join a game ??
Text or voice are both valid options, but the DM of any given game will indicate what the requirements are.
Visit #find-a-game for everything you need to start your search, including:
- Instructions for finding a game here on the server (including how to post in our #looking-for channels).
- Suggestions for finding a game outside of this server.
- Basic advice to help you in your hunt.
How can I host a game?
You'll need some way of communicating with your players: in person, Discord, Roll20 or otherwise. You'll probably also want some way to share dice rolls if you're playing online. D&D Beyond will do that with characters assigned to the same campaign.
Mk
But I mean like inviting players to join the campaign. Do we need a specific app to site or post it on find a game?
Instructions for advertising a game are in the #find-a-game channel. You use the appropriate command ( /looking-for-players ) and put the details in the sheet.
If you're not using a Discord timestamp be sure to say what your timezone is. Have a look at a few adverts first to see what kind of information they put up.
Oh I see thnks
So I'm super new to D&D like never played it once but I want to get into it thing is I don't know anybody whom I can play with and I can't really travel far to meet someone irl (live in burbank CA) but I'd still love to play, any tips or any place you guys would know to start my first campaign ever?
I have created a character in D&D BEYOND (online) but that's as far as I got.

I did read through basic rules and I've seen some videos of campaigns so I sort of know the gimmick of it but I couldn't find the rules of the die rolling I would always see the DM tell the player what die to roll and for what, is that not always the case? Also sorry for asking to much questions
The dm usually asks the player to roll a certain type of check or to roll a certain die in response to a question or action
at some tables the players might ask for a check like "hey could i roll survival to try and track where the bandits ran off to"
Things like skill checks, savings throws, attack rolls are made with a d20, whereas attack damage is rolled with a damage die according to the weapon/spell/attack description
Hello guys I am totally new to DND can anyone help me understand how it all functions ?
Thank you all it really helps.
Do you mean role-playing in general or how the rules of D&D work?
I do know roleplaying but D&D is where the issue is at

Tysm the only thing/things I know is bard uses vicious mockery and it's funny af
im new too... soooo... tysm!
@timid locust so I went through the rules and basics I understood basics like dice rolls and ndn (n meaning unspecified number) and character basic like stat distribution so now I wanna know what are the classes which are tanky
Paladins, barbarians, and fighters are the "tankiest" classes but tanking is hard to pull off effectively in 5e
I see
Agreed with above.
Having big health and big Armor Class (AC) are the best ways to keep alive
what specifically are you looking for in your tank character btw, if its like area denial/protecting your friends that's very doable through many of the full casters
Tanking as a role like some MMOs or other RPGs have isn't really something that works in DnD because there's no taunt/aggro system. But if you're looking to keep alive, those classes mentioned are great!
Prob protecting teammates
I see so taunt/agro is not available in DND
Not really, correct.
Can you explain ?
paladin is great for that, they have an aura of protection that buffs your allies saving throws (so they're better protected against stuff like fireballs and whatnot)
If you're willing to take a look at spellcasting, Paladin is a great class for being hard to kill and for helping support the party!
I see
paladin is also good for a new player because the oaths have a lot of built in flavor/personality, and you'd get a taste of spellcasting and weapons
Also another question I was watching guides where they mention a paper of some sort while playing DND so while playing online do we use a online paper of similar sorts ??
You character sheet?
I assume they mean a character sheet.
There are definitely online options for character sheets.
Yes
You could create one here on D&D Beyond, for example.
https://www.dndbeyond.com/characters/builder
A character sheet is just a place where you write down all your character's information for your (and your DM's) reference.
So while the distribution of stats should favor constitution I assume ?
I see
you'd want high charisma, strength, and con
Constitution is always great to have, but paladins love Strength and Charisma as well
Speaking of characters, online there's a website that's called D&D beyond where you can create and save your character and add any traits you want to it its good for someone like me who's just starting to keep track of character and to create one in general.
your charisma is important because your spells get stronger based on that and so does your aura of protection which is insanely good
I see
For a paladin:
- Strength will improve the accuracy and damage of your melee weapons
- Constitution will improve your max HP and your ability to concentrate on spells
- Charisma will increase the number and potency of your spells
So I try to evenly spread out between str charisma and con
i'd prioritise charisma, strength, and con in that order
I'd prioritize Strength just a little bit more than the other two, personally
But as long as those three are your highest stats, you're probably building in the right direction!
I see
Let me write this so to know if I understood correctly
Charisma- increases my spell potency and and aura of protection
Str- increases my acc and weap power
Cons- increases hp and overall tankyness
So my build priorities charisma>str>cons
yep
Thank you guys
Happy to help!
The rest you can do in any order you like.
If you're wearing heavy armor, you can probably leave Dex as the lowest.
Btw what is nat 20 ?
When you make an ability check, attack roll, or saving throw and roll a 20 on the die.
i.e. you got the best possible roll
Basically
For attack rolls, that means you've got a critical hit. Your attack lands regardless of the target's AC, and you roll the damage dice twice.
You crit the die
It has no special effect for ability checks and saving throws (except death saves).
I've now made a character and have a basic understanding of the game, what bow?
Visit #find-a-game for everything you need to start your search, including:
- Instructions for finding a game here on the server (including how to post in our #looking-for channels).
- Suggestions for finding a game outside of this server.
- Basic advice to help you in your hunt.
You can share your character in #character-discussion if you want to show off or get some advice.
If you feel like you've got a good understanding of the game, the next step is finding a group to play with! You can follow the link above to begin your search on this server.
I see
Sounds good! Thank you
The hardest part for some people
With the basics out of the way (kinda) should I try to make a character ?
Go for it
You sure can!
Sure thx
Then when you find a group, you can work with the DM to see which of those is the best fit and add any finishing details.
I like to say the following though:
Treat the characters you make now as practice characters. There's no guarantee your DM will let you play that character in particular, so don't get too attached just yet.
Sure thx
But it's a great way to understand exactly what all the stats on your character sheet mean and what they interact with
I see
(stupid) question, why do people ask for your age when they want to invite you to their group? or rather why is age an important factor?
Type of language they use the settings and theme of the campaign that might not be suitable for certain ages
^
ah this question came up to me because some campaigns being 18+ makes sense but some times i see people look for people 25+
So excessive swearing or adult themes
25+ they probably want someone more mature/older
I see, thanks
Yeah cause 18 and 19 year Olds can be a little still immature I guess you would call it like they might always do something that might be funny the 1st few times but either annoying or just creepy or weird if it's to do with adult content
Yeah
Like some might not be a good portion might not be but don't rlly want to risk it and ruin a campaign
It's a good idea to play a half orc monk if I've never played dnd?
Yes!
Play whatever kind of character interests you most.
You'll have a better time if you've got one you care about than one you think you're "supposed" to have.
problem is idk how to say it in text
ok thanks for the
advise
Don't know how to say what? The kind of character you're interested in?
Ability score
What about ability scores?
What does that have to do with playing whatever kind of character interests you most?
So your ability score determines what you can multiclass into usually need 13 in a ability score to multiclass in or out of a class so if you wanted to multiclass barbarian you need 13 strength or con they determine your modifier a ability score of 10 is a plus 0 ability score of 12 is a plus 1 and so on so forth the modifiers affect pretty everything your character does but mainly affect the bonus to rolls when role playing or doing something physical so if you want to say persuade a person to do something for you, you roll a D20 and whatever your result is add the modifier so if you rolled a 17 and had +2 charisma that would be a 19 it improves or worsen rolls
You pinged the wrong person
Yeah, I know what an ability score is. 😅
I'm just not following how any of that connects to the comment Emilia replied to.
Hence why I asked Emilia for clarification.

Hi I’m looking for some way to find out if shops near me offer any DnD games
Have you asked those shops?
You can use the store locator here: https://locator.wizards.com/
And yes, just ask!
Hai! : D I’m completely new to DND my only experience with it is running into a friend or two back in high school who would play it in the library sometimes.
welcome

hey can someone help me with character sheets please?
What kind of help specifically?
What have you got for your character so far? Where are you stuck?
i am stuck on the skill, attacks and spell casting, equipment and treasure
so everything after race and class?
yeah i guess
cool. no probs, what is the question
how do i calculate my skills?
so have you put in your base stats yet for the 6 main scores?
yes
strength 13
dexterity 13
constitution 14
intelligence 15
wisdom 14
charisma 13
i am a wizard
and we are going for level 1 yea?
yes
cool. so level 1 prof bonus is +3 yea/
it is +2 @ level 1
Is there a specific part that you are getting stuck on?
i know nothing about making character sheets
so have you chosen your 2 skills from the wizard start?
no
is it the stats or the making of the sheet that your stuck on?
ok so you get 2 from either arcarna, history, insight, med, investigation or religion
do you have a phb
umm no
is there a good guide that i can follow?
Basic rules are free
The basic rules should help!
Dndbeyond can walk you through making a character too
thank you so much
Each skill is tied to a specific ability. You have a bonus for each of those skills equal to your ability modifier.
good luck
So if you have a +3 in Strength, you also have a +3 for Strength (Athletics) checks.
For any skill you're proficient in, you can also add your proficiency bonus (+2) to that.
So if you had a +3 in Strength and proficiency in Athletics, you'd have a total of +5.
And you'd just write that number next to Athletics.
There's usually a little bubble you can fill in to indicate which ones you're proficient in as well.
Most characters start with proficiency in 4-6 different skills.
Hi everyone, I'm new to D&D and am looking to start my first adventure. Is there a specific story/adventure that would be a good place to start?
For equipment, both your class and background will list a number of items you start with. You just gotta copy the list over, and potentially make a couple A/B choices.
You probably won't have any treasure yet.
Welcome! There's a few starter sets that are specifically made for beginners, like Dragons of Stormwreck Isle.
Or there's a number of free options you could start with, like Peril in Pinebrook.
Thanks!
Hi! I'm new here. I've been wanting to play for a long time. I would like to join a group who play solely text based if possible.

Definitely possible to play with just text!
The games tend to be a little slower, but with the right group, they can be a lot of fun.
They're not as common, though, so it might take a little longer to find the right match.
Can i have a little help with characteristics when you’re done helping wisteria?
So my character is a sticky fingered rogue who does it just for the fun and adrenaline but the personality traits that dnd beyond is giving are not really like my character what do I do?
Write your own!
You can make as much or as little use of that section as you like.
It's all just there to help you envision your character.
If the suggestions aren't helping you do that, just ignore them.
🥲
How do DMs remember all the details when doing a new campaign, because I want to try it out, and I’m doing a campaign module there’s just a lot of characters to remember, and events and I wouldn’t want to have to stop mid game to them look at something
Its much easier if you create your own notes from the book, rather than trying to run the game as if the book was your notes
What would be a better life style for a thief; modest, poor, or squalid?
How good of a thief are they?
Pritty good
I did try to shorten everything and take some of my own notes but it just still feels like a lot and I haven’t played the game very much or at all in really
Honestly, it's okay if you have to stop during the game to check something/set up the next part. You can even take breaks if you think it's going to need the time
Take a sneaky break is a great way to read up on stuff! Your players won't know the difference
On the subject of games that have voice chat... Is there a way to make the discord mute sound not happen?
Dunno. I almost never voice chat in Discord. 😅
You could try asking in #non-dnd-topics.
(I believe that sound only plays on your end)
If you’re on a phone I think the silent mode does it
That would be preferable. I could see how it would get annoying since I wouldn't want my background noise to affect any game I would join.
What doshbones said is correct, only you can hear that mute sound. The sound everyone hears is the joining chime.
Any New Groups I can join?

Who or what are important to you

Hello /wave
Hello Severon
Yo
hey!
what do i need to play dnd
ive got the die but not the handbook which handbook do i need?
Me too . Dont know how to play
You can get by with just the free Basic Rules: https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dnd/basic-rules-2014
Aside from that, you need folks to play with, a means of communication, character sheets, and an adventure.
ok thanks!
i saw a channel for people looking to play am i able to join a game there?
How to ko join game?
is there a group that i could possibly join if anyone has an open slot? (doesnt necessarily have to be just for the game)
If you're a player, you can post in #looking-for-dm by following the instructions in #find-a-game. Or you can reach out to the people who posted in #looking-for-players,
ok, thanks a ton ! : D
So i have to chat the dm?
Yep.
Asking what server it is?
D&D is ultimately a game of communication.
Then copy the link?
Just start with “hi”.
Ask some questions about their game.
Once you find an ad that intrigues you, either post in the associated thread or send a message to the DM. You may be declined or may not get an answer at all. But as spam says, it's a game about communication, so start with reaching out.
Share some ideas you’ve got based on what they say.
do we have to buy the adventures as players?
asking because there is stuff for dms and players
seperatly so im just confused

It ruins the surprise!
I have a question but how does the subclass work, for example where I indicate that I want to do the way of the Astral Self
You pick your subclass at the appropriate level and get those features, getting more as you progress.
On the character sheet, you can specify this on the Class line.
Which would be the better lifestyle for a thef of about 17 years poor, or modest?
If you're not in a game yet, don't worry about lifestyle.
If they still need to steal, they're probably poor.
They are a kleptomaniac
I honestly don't understand where this option is located?
Are you using a physical sheet or a platform like D&D Beyond?
dnd beyond
You need to be at the appropriate level to get the prompt for your subclass.
Once you hit level 3, it'll prompt you to pick your subclass then.
And if you don't have access to that digital content, you won't be able to pick that specific subclass.
How do I check if I have access to the Astral Self subclass content?
Make your character level 3 and see what options are in the menu for subclass. I forget how it's specifically labeled in DDB.
no I don't have access to that content but thanks anyway
Hello. New here
Hello
I would like some help plz. Looking for a group to play with
What is a save throw
A saving throw--also called a save--represents an attempt to resist a spell, a trap, a poison, a disease, or a similar threat. You don’t normally decide to make a saving throw; you are forced to make one because your character or monster is at risk of harm.
https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dnd/basic-rules-2014/using-ability-scores#SavingThrows
Nope! If a player uses a spell that calls for a saving throw, the target (probably a monster) will make a saving throw.
As an example.
I mean to say in a fight, if a player is about to injure their target, can they use a saving throw
(their target)
As the above text says, it's not something the player decides to do. Either an ability of feature specifies the target makes a saving throw or the DM asks the player to do so.
It’s not about the player
The target makes a saving throw if the ability/feature specifies.
So for enemies it depends on their build while all players can use saving throws?
No, it depends on what feature/ability is being used.
So only when under certain attacks can an enemies use a saving throw
For example, Fireball says this:
A bright streak flashes from your pointing finger to a point you choose within range and then blossoms with a low roar into an explosion of flame. Each creature in a 20-foot-radius sphere centered on that point must make a Dexterity saving throw. A target takes 8d6 fire damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.
That's true whether a player is using it or a creature controlled by the DM.
Alright
This is the right idea, but to be precise with our language, “attacks” is the term for things that don’t use saving throws. “Attacks” use attack rolls instead
I mean when they’re under attack :(
I understand what you meant, and their is no harm in using simple terms while learning, but D&D is a very rules-oriented game, so a lot of terms and vocabulary have very specific rules meanings. Casting the spell Fireball for example, as posted above, is not an “attack” specifically because it forces the targets to make a saving throw, instead of rolling an attack roll against them
I don’t get it but that’s ok
Thank you for trying to explain it to me
I’ll go now
casting a spell is an action, while an attack is physical
Making an attack is also an action. And some spells can be attacks.
I just started playing and my first dm is my brother, after some time I notice that I always use the same spells (I'm a druid) . How can I use other actions and spells without feeling weaker ?
Are you playing alone or with others?
Hey, I’m new to DnD and TTRPGs in general but I really want to get into a game. Does anyone know where the best place to find online game for newcomers is?
Started with others but now doing a solo mission
I joined this discord and a few others but haven’t had any luck yet
There's no dedicated spot for newcomer games. The conventional advice is to look widely. I made a guide full of avenues to try out. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1fqCm4tA5Y_WxlqgryUM_iaz3l7B3zZ0m/view
I have so many characters but I’ve never played a game yet. I know how to play but I never got the opportunity
Thank you, much appreciated
I see now there’s a channel for games at the bottom of the server, don’t know how I missed it multiple times haha
I think maybe that's just it. If you were in a group, you might use other spells. You can also talk with the DM. "I wanna try using other spells, but I don't want you to kill me because I'm not using the 'best' options. What do you think?"
So if I play with more players, it wont be as repetitive?
I'd imagine so, because you have more gears in the machine, so their choices might impact yours.
For example, you probably won't use Healing Word on yourself because it doesn't offer much healing, but it could be the difference between a fellow PC living or dying when they're unconscious.
Thanks mate, I will ask him if I can try different spells on a side quest of some sort.
You might also read up on your spells so you know what they do and thus feel more comfortable using them, instead of going with what you already know.
I try to prepare by reading most spells on current level and like the next 2
Sure, but you might also consider what sort of situations you'd use a given spell in. Put that imagination to work for you!
So dont learn all combat spells ? Also some more "casual" spells ?
For sure! If you're only looking at combat spells, you might be missing as much as 2/3 of the game (assuming your DM tries to incorporate all three pillars equally).
3 ?
Combat, social encounters, and exploration. Combat is only one part of the game, and some features, spells included, can be helpful in those non-combat situations.
And sometimes they can be used creatively in combat.
How could you use spells in social encounters ? I kinda get the other two, also used one in a puzzel.
Party buffs like Enhance Ability or Guidance can help with a skill check. But it can also push the story along because hey, that guy just used magic! Seize him!
Or Comprehend Languages could help you translate something an NPC doesn't understand.
I kinda get it, thanks alot mate. I will read my known spells again and change them a bit around. Thanks tho
Good luck. If you want more in-depth conversation around characters, that'd be #character-discussion!
I’m creating a cult follower are there some organizations i should look up or do I have to make up my own?
The list of Forgotten Realms gods is a good place to start, the deities with neutral, or evil alignments are probably what you're looking for as a cult deity.
The cults category on the Forgotten Realms wiki could also be good, but a lot of reading
This is perfect thank you
Probably the best method is to ask your DM what a good cult for your character could be, as they might have one in mind that is already integrated into their intended direction the campaign is heading.
I don’t have one 😢
All good, picking one from amongs those in the Forgotten Realms is a safe bet as most (ime) campaigns take place there.
When you join a campaign, it'll be a good question to ask as not every cult is relevant to every adventure
I might make the choice later when I’m going to use that character and I have a group
Hey how do I start playing dnd online or in person I have maybe one person no DM and not a whole lot of character creating experience
That was kind of a silly question…
#find-a-game would be a good place to find DMs or other PCs to play with online. Facebook groups for the local major city usually exist for dnd and general role playing groups
Hello all, I am planning to start to play dnd witmy friends and we are considering purchase the player handbook and dungeon master guide. Should we wait for the new edition or just go for the current edition is fine? Also, usually how oven will we get a new edition? Thanks for helping.
i would say it's worth it if you can get them used
also new editions are very very rare
last time we got one was 10 years ago
Oh
That's really rare
I thought it is like a update patch of games xd
So I think I will wait for new version
It can last for years xd
How do I find a group to play with? Newer player need a group
^
Hello I am a newcomer
Im also a newcomer 😁
I think most people here are looking for one (myself included) haha
If you do find one lmk!!!
Likewise lol
What time zone are you in
I’m PDT. I think we should get a small group of new comers together and find a DM haha
I’m est
I’ll be more than happy to get a group together. All we’ll need is a DM
I can play any class but it’s whatever
I think weekends would be best for accommodating time zones.
You can use #find-a-game within this server to find a group.
In general soliciting/making games outside of the #looking-for channels is against server rules
Would talking with other new comers about making an official group and seeking out a DM technically fall under that?
I believe so, best to be on the safe side just in case
Sweet
hey so im completely new to dnd and was interested in getting into it and i saw this discord could anyone give me advice on how to get into a campaign with a group thats like friendly to new players or something like that?
I second this, I'm new here as well.
Welcome! #find-a-game can point you toward the available groups here.
In my experience, most groups are pretty welcoming of newcomers even if they’re not explicitly advertised that way.
So if you see one you’re interested in, can’t hurt to ask!
Would I use the one for looking for players or dms
Are you looking to join as a player or a DM?
So I’m going to attempt to be a DM for the first time but I have no idea where to start, can anyone suggest which books to get to find out what to do?
If you haven't read the basic rules yet, start there
After that, there are a number of free intro adventures that you can get on D&D Beyond or DMsGuild which give you the adventure and have useful tips on how to run them too
There's a few starter sets that are specifically made for beginner groups, like Dragons of Stormwreck Isle.
Are the basic rules on the website?
Yeah, right here:
https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dnd/basic-rules-2014
Thanks for these. Do they come with like books and stuff for different stats and whatnot?
They both come with premade characters that can be used.
And they’ve both got all the statistics for any monsters or magic items in the adventure.
?newdm
- In Dungeons & Dragons, one person serves as the Dungeon Master, the game’s lead storyteller and referee. The DM runs the adventure for the players, who navigate its hazards and decide which paths to explore.
- Learn how to be a Dungeon Master with this YouTube video or D&D Beyond article.
- The Basic Rules are available at no cost and cover everything you need to know to play.
- Decide what kind of campaign you want to run. Here’s a few good options for new DMs.
- Get advice from your fellow Dungeon Masters in #dm-discussion and #dm-world-building.
Cool. Is there one that you would suggest ( I have played as a player before and most of the players my players have as well)
The most important part of being a good DM is facilitating the fun of everyone at the table. Keep these tips in mind to help things go smoothly:
D&D is about telling a story as a group, so let the players contribute to the outcome through the words and deeds of their characters. If some players are reluctant to speak up, ask them what their characters are doing.
The DM isn’t competing against the player characters. Your job is to referee the rules, run monsters, and keep the story moving.
Treat your players in a fair, impartial manner. The rules help you do this, but you can make your own rulings to ensure everyone is having fun.
Adventures have no prescribed outcome. You can alter any encounter to make it more interesting and fun for your players.
Dungeon Masters are fallible, just like everyone else, and even experienced DMs make mistakes. If you overlook, forget, or misrepresent something, correct yourself and move on. No one expects you to memorize every part of this adventure and all the rules in the Basic Rules. As long as your players are having fun, everything will be just fine.

If you’ve all got some experience already, then maybe Phandelver and Below: The Shattered Obelisk.
hi idk what I'm doing
This is an expanded version of Lost Mines of Phandelver, which was a very popular earlier starter set.
Thanks
You and me both

How will know what kind of rolls to get my players to do?
If they’re making an attack, they make an attack roll.
If they’re trying to avoid some kind of danger, they make a saving throw.
For anything else they want to attempt, you can have them make an ability check.
Cheers mate this is really helpful
I think I have enough to go on with for the moment thanks
For the latter two, you can just decide whatever ability or skill you think is most appropriate for the situation.
If they’re trying to dodge out of the way of something, that’s probably a Dexterity saving throw.
Is there a link or something to help with like terminology for dnd
If they’re trying to convince someone to help them, that’s probably a Charisma (Persuasion) check.
Thanks
Also for ability checks and saving throws, you’d need to decide the Difficulty Class (DC).
That’s the number they need to reach to succeed on the roll.
As a simple rule of thumb, you can use 10 for an easy task, 15 for medium, or 20 for hard.

What is an orginization a Dragonborn Barbarian would probably be apart of?
i'm doing a soldier background
That is going to be dependent on a campaign's setting and lore.
ah ok

In the most popular setting, The Forgotten Realms, the Lord's Alliance could be a good pick for a character of your description. The Lord's Alliance is an alliance of several cities along The Swords Coast, so it would make sense for a soldier of one of those cities to be recruited into their ranks.
h-hello
Welcome to the server!

Yeah thers certainly a lot of rules for D&D. Dont worry too much about remembering the exact rules, so long as you know the rough idea of where to look for the rules when you need them, youll be alright
was moreso referring to the games list
but yeah that too..*
i mean ermm im no stranger to RP that is.. i do like to write and such just havent done it much over VC before though i do want to get better at that aspect and such as i said heh..*

Hallo
Hello I just joined. How does this place work? To afraid to do anything till I know how the server works... I haven't played dnd before
No idea
I’ve had problems with verifying my phone for the past 2 weeks 😭
But it’s finally working
Ye
For a server so big I definitely wasn't expecting it to be more of a scheduling place rather then jump in and play
Think of the server as a big town square with lots of sign posts for places to get help/advice and places to go to look for games
Sounds like a google question lol

hello, i am new to dnd
and confused where to start, how everything works and that are dnd editions?
D&D's rules have changed a lot over the 50 years it's been around and every so often there's a "reset" where the designers go "Here is the new starting point for the rules". These 'resets' are editions
This means while the overall game is the same, the rules are different and so not compatible
For example, you can't use a monster made for D&D 3th edition in a game using D&D 5th editions (the current edition) rules
as for getting started, check out #learn-to-play
thanks, i'll read it
Ah. That's clever. Is that essentially like. A sequal to a board game?
Sort of, I compare it to the transition from Fallout 2 to Fallout 3 or GTA 2 to GTA 3. Same core ideas, but significantly different gameplay/mechanics
i made a character
Nice. What did you make
Hey I am pretty new to DND. Im using the wood elf fighter that's automatically pregenerated from DOSI and I was looking for a dm that's hosting DOSI cause I have heard its a good place to start from.
Check out #find-a-game
can i make a dragonborn character that looks awfully a lot like a rat?
i mean the size, the ears, the tails, all of the above
Speak to your DM
Flavor is free, so you could, though you may also run it by your DM first
Fire breathing rat man is a cool concept though
Totally no rat bias there 😏
Nope none at all
i was thinking of more of a stuart little type character
but yeah fire breathing is a good addition
Or any of the small races can work
well i think imma stick with dragonborn because its funnier
imagine stuart little breathing fire on your leg while preaching about rat-god
Hi everyone! I'm new around here. I want to get into D&D with a group of friends, where none of us has ever played the game. I'll be DMing because somebody has to, and I think I'm enthusiastic enough to actually get us through past the threshold to actually make D&D a playable game for us. Any advice? (Also, should I be speaking about this in this channel or is there somewhere else that is more appropriate for this?)
I'm thinking to start with a few simple one off scenes, maybe skipping the whole character building gig for the first couple of hours at least. Will stats be necessary for fight scenes to be coherent?
peril in pine brook free starter with loads of hints tips.
#dm-discussion would be the place
And yeah, you kinda do need stats for combat, as lot of things depend on them
is there any one shots that are all text based?
Check #find-a-game . Text-only games are typically referred to as “Play-By-Post” or PBP for short.
Read over this guide (https://howtogm.guide/) and watch through the first few videos of Matt Colville's "Running the Game" YouTube series (https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLlUk42GiU2guNzWBzxn7hs8MaV7ELLCP_). His thesis is that running the game is easy (or at least easier than it's often made out to be) and fun, and his videos help folks see that for themselves.
I have some DM advice here: #dnd-newcomers message
You can also search the server using “dm advice” and/or “dm tips” as keywords. You'll find plenty of good suggestions!
thanks!
If you want to expand your search outside this server, you can find play-by-post (PBP) on the D&D Beyond forums, Role Gate, Gamers Plane, RPG Crossing, and Reddit’s r/pbp.
Other options include Myth Weavers, No Goblins Allowed, Ongoing Worlds, RolePlay onLine, Roleplayer Guild, Tavern Keeper, and The Tangled Web.
Otherwise, just search PBP or play by post using Discord's Explore Discoverable Servers function.
i appreciate the resources, thank you!
I am completely new to playing D&D IRL. I am planning on giving it a go (as dungeon master) with 3 friends who are also interested. I have seen most people digitally create their character sheets and print them out, then how are changes to stats tracked, such as when armour and weapons are changed? It's not like she sheets are written in pencil which can be easily erased and then changed.
you're better off putting the permanent things (like character name, race, etc) in digitally then writing the things that can change in pencil.
Doing the entire thing in a pdf then printing it doesn't work that well
This is what I assumed happened, but every single 'basics for beginners' video has the whole sheet printed out and I was baffled 😅
Hi, I'm very new to dnd and would love, to learn how to play! I'm not confident and I've never played a game of it but, I'm set on learning how to play,I would love it if ,someone could recommend some tutorials, book's e.c.t, thanks
Sorry for the bad grammer

no worries, have fun
hello, I am new here and I just bought the Starter Pack and the Essentials Kit. I want to buy the book ``Out of the Abyss´´ and I heard that you need some Figures for this. Where can I buy these figures that you need for this book?
You don't need figures for any adventure as far as i'm aware. If you want tokens to show characters you can use anything from miniatures to paper tokens.
oh alright but when I want to buy some important characters
Where can I buy them?
the adventure is pretty old now so it might be a bit hard to find the official miniatures for it. Best bet is to search for 'Out of the abyss miniatures' on sites like Amazon
I can´t find them
Here's a review for the minis set that was released around the same time as the adventure: https://alphastream.org/index.php/2015/12/02/reviewing-the-rage-of-demons-dd-miniatures/
Searching for it for sale online, it looks like you'd drop a good chunk of money to have everything in the adventure. Which is why it's worth considering using something simpler/cheaper (paper tokens, coins, candy, etc.).
#dnd-minis will likely have even more advice!

Not randomly: where you want. Your most important stat varies by class.
Look for the Quick Build section on your class page to see which ability scores are highlighted as important (example for paladin: https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dnd/basic-rules-2014/classes#QuickBuild7).

I have a question about channel divinity for my level 5 life cleric.
Untill level 6, I can only use channel divinity once a day.
Does this mean
A) I will only be able to use Turn undead as an example of using Channel Divinity
Or
B) I will be able to use Turn Undead once but not twice. Then I will also be able to use preserve life since its not the same channel divinity?
You have one use of Channel Divinity, but two effects. You choose which to use. Then you'll need a long rest to recharge, at which point you could again use either effect, not both.
I'm not exactly brand new - but I'm not exactly super seasoned and haven't played for many years - any resources that fit someone like me? Pretty sure I've only done 3.5e and 4e, I have no idea what the new stuff is right now. (It has literally been over 5 years since my last time playing)

hello. can i ask what vc means?
Voice chat, probably.
voice chat/voice call yeah
Welcome! Most of our resources are written for brand new players, but there will still be some good information there for you. If you've only ever played 3.5e and 4e, then the current game of 5e will be a totally different rule set. So, at the very least, I would recommend reading through the basic rules
why can´t I find the Essentials Kit in German 😭
Yeah I remember opening up rules for 5e and thinking "wtf I can't understand anything now" xD
Isn't this it? https://dnd.wizards.com/de/products/essentials-kit
The Handbooker Helper introductory youtube videos could also be very helpful to you
no, cause this is the Starter set
Dragon of Icespire Peak, which is what's pictured, is the Essentials Kit, not the starter set.
I'm not sure how the set is translated in German, of course.
How useful are healers in D&D groups? I've heard a lot about how they don't really serve a purpose in modern D&D 😅
isn´t dragons of stormwreck isle the starter pack?
It is. But that isn't what I linked you to. Unless it displays differently where you are. I see it as the German version of Icespire Peak.
One of the things that is quite different about D&D compared to other RPGs is that having a dedicated healer build isn't really a thing. Healing spells and potions absolutely do exist, and they are important to have in your party, but having 1 player dedicated to the role of healer isn't typically part of the game. Its just not how combat was designed or balanced in this game
This is probably beyond the scope of this channel, but healing is quite useful in D&D. It just doesn't pace with damage, but having no healing ability at all can present a problem when folks go unconscious.
the most classic "healer" is actually more of a tank with healing abilities
oh cause in German the names are the same
(cleric)
Ah 😓 A guardian angel type character is a fantasy I've had for awhile and wanted to try making it in D&D
Sounds like a Divine Soul Sorcerer.
You never usually have a strict healer, you just have a character who happens to be able to heal a bit outside of smacking stuff. Despite that though you can absolutely play that type of character.
Well, consider shifting the fantasy a little bit. You can still be a Guardian Angel that protects your friends, but instead of focusing on healing, focus on crowd control effects, or ways to disable and debuff your enemies
My other character I'm working on is a dwarven forge cleric that specializes in crafting eventually legendary weapons to pay respect to his god of the forge.
Healer meets Unlimited Blade Works.
All the cleric abilities are forge-themed in aesthetic.
Sounds like a fun character. If you'd like help planning out their build or backstory and such, you can post about them in #character-discussion
Sure!
So how many actions could you do in a turn, I understand you can attack, move up to your movement speed, and do a bonus action but would taking our your weapon or sheathing it fall into any of those categories or interacting with the environment or using an item?
Drawing or sheathing a weapon is considered a free action. Interacting with an object usually falls under free action as well. Using an item USUALLY is a whole action
The parts of a turn are explained here:
https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dnd/basic-rules-2014/combat#YourTurn
But to put it simply, you have 1 action, 1 bonus action, and an amount of movement equal to your speed
You are also allowed to interact with 1 object or feature of the environment for free, as part of another action or movement. This would be what drawing or sheathing a weapon is considered to be, as well as opening a door or pulling a lever. If you need to interact with 2 objects on the same turn, such as sheathing one weapon and drawing another, then it requires an action to do the second one
Hello!
Thank you!
I just found a game I would like to join in the find-a-game channel. Do you just send a dm or is there another way ?
I recommend replying in the ad's attached thread unless the ad specifically says to send a private message.
Hi there.
Hi, I am extremely new to dnd and have very little knowledge of it but I really want to give it a try. If someone can help me get the basics down I'd really appreciate it!! :]

Yeah that’s correct
It means you use multiple of those dice, for example, 2d4 would mean to use 2 d4, and so on
May I know where can I find the change of background story from different editions? Like is there any events happens in the new edition? Thank you.
The changes are still part of D&D 5th edition but you can discuss the upcoming changes in https://discord.com/channels/516367331358801950/1063492306927374426 and other channels in that section
I'm not sure what you're asking? D&D has many different settings and thus story backgrounds. Nothing has changed with them.
Have you read #learn-to-play yet? That can help get you started.
Thanks!

I will have a look
Is there a book that talk about the world view of the Forgotten Realms?
The closest we have is The Sword Coast Adventurer's Guidebook (SCAG) but it focuses on the Sword Coast of the Forgotten Realms. You may like to check out https://forgottenrealms.fandom.com which is a community-ran wiki providing info on the Forgotten Realms. If you have other official D&D lore questions, check out #dnd-lore
Thank you so much
Can someone help me pick out the best cantrips for a firearm specalist sorcerror?

I joined DnD around 2 years ago for a DnD club at school but I still have a lot to learn
I also joined a DnD group at a cafe but I got to play just a couple games before I was unable to go any longer due to life complications ;-;
I only know the basics TwT and my character is all out of wack but I still somehow manage to play them
Haha yeah I never was allowed to play dnd and now that I’ve moved out of that home I want to finally get into it but I mean YouTube shorts has only so much information 😂
Feel free to start with the bot post above.
where do i find dms looking for players?
#looking-for-players is the channel to find DMs looking for players
thank you
hello
Hello, anyone has a suggestion how I could play DnD when there's virtually no one around me playing this game?
Online
Look in the looking for players channel it usually has people posting every 1-20 minutes
It’s pretty dry atm though
I'll see if I can play tmmr
I just made a character and it's 8:36pm rn and I have life to attend to ;-;
?tag new online
Online is always an option. The bot post above covers some things to help you get started.
Have you already visited your local library, tabletop shop, conventions, and local Facebook/Meet Up Groups?
I tried online before but found out that time was a challenge for me since most campaigns which I saw took place in the European timezone and I was in GTM+7.
Yes I did. I tried to look everywhere both online and offline to no avail haha. DnD isn't popular in my country sadly
You might have better luck if you shift your focus towards matching availability and starting out with DnD’s community campaign called adventurers league since it has a single session style of play.
This way you can focus on individual time slots as opposed to a set schedule.
And you won’t have to worry about matching time zones if the play group is free during that particular session.
Where are you come from? I'm also from GMT+7 country haha
Is PBP just text based dnd?
I'm from Vietnam. You?
Thank you. This is very useful. I'll have a look
Indonesia
Good evening everyone I just found this discord channel I am not sure why it took so long. I have been playing D&D since 1984. I have been DM since 2014. I love this game and always willing to guide new players.
Can a player still play with website dice? I don't have any of my own and I'm still saving up for it but I still wanna try and play
Many allow online dice, tho usually most sites and ttrpg softward have dice rolling withing the software as well^^
Ah I see, thank you

Hi!
Welcome!
Ty ^^ I'm curious if u guys got any recommendation for any yt videos that's rlly good to watch specially as someone new to D&D?
If I may offer. Are you brand new like entirely?
There’s many if you wanted certain things:
- If you want a fantastic supplement to reading the basic rules (peep the pins!), Critical Role’s Handbooker Helper series is really good (and linked in the pins).
- If you wanted a more comedic preview of all the classes, JoCat’s A Crap Guide to D&D is what I’d recommend
- If you wanted to watch D&D liveplay shows there’s Critical Role or Dimension20 (keep in mind that these are primarily for entertainment and don’t represent the average table)
I tried it like 2or 3 times but it was with ppl who was really not interested in D&D nor took it seriously but I though it was fun
But I'm basically new I'd say
Like Star said above, all of those are great for getting a taste for the game. I personally love Zee Bashew as well, but he doesn't talk about the whole game. He will however change how you look at spells and gain new understandings of mechanics.
Thank you so much! I will have a look at them later :)
Yes! Thank you for the help
I will have to check them all out haha
I'm really bad with discord but what pins? Is it in a channel?
Pinned messaged can be found on:
- Mobile by going to the relevant channel and tapping the channel name at the top of the screen, then tapping the “Pins” header
- PC by going to the relevant channel clicking the pin icon in the upper right
Oh! Thank you so much

When a player punches an enemy, they need to do a roll before the damage roll to see if the hit lands, right?
Every attack (excepting certain spell effects that require a saving throw) requires an attack roll.
That attack roll plus any modifiers and bonuses must meet or beat the target's Armor Class to hit (with natural 20 rolls automatically hitting as they are a critical roll).
Nope! In fact, it's usually standard to roll hit before damage.
Then you roll damage
Yeah that's what I said, hit roll then damage roll
Anyways, the hit roll isn't tied to any stats like attack roll is
Is that correct
The attack roll is the chance-to-hit roll. Usually you add a relevant modifier and if you're proficient in the attack, you add your proficiency bonus.
No that guy said hit roll before attack roll, hit roll determines whether the hit lands or not and attack roll is the amount of damage
The attack roll is the "to hit" roll
The phrase "Attack Roll" refers to your character's chance to hit a target.
The phrase "Damage Roll" refers to the amount of damage you deal if you hit.
You can take a look here if you'd like to look over the rules for making an attack.
Hello, I've been interested in DND for awhile and been wanting to get into it for years. What would be the easiest way to start getting into one?
im also interested in dnd but i never had the time to try and get into it but now i do
Scroll on up to the Dyno post for links to the Basic Rules and some helpful videos.
You might want to have a look through the sections on ability scores, skills, combat and spellcasting, then try making your own level one character to practice the process. Little tip: use the standard array method for your ability scores (15, 14, 13, 12, 10, 8 in the order you choose).
can i make art of my character?
If you like! Do bear in mind this server prohibits the publication of AI generated art. If you've got some of your own work, you can share it in #dnd-arts-and-crafts .
What should I join as a first game?
How do you mean?
Aye
sorry
I meant yes
oh
Mb
it’s fine
A game will usually say if they're open to newcomers or if they prefer someone with prior experience. Most tables are pretty chill with taking new people, as long as you know your way around the Basic Rules and how your own character works.
Alright!
ok thanks
are there any available slots in a free game for a player sometime soon? (also is that something common/appropriate to look for here?)
#find-a-game can point you toward the available groups!
oooo thank you!
👋
Welcome!
Hi guys. I‘m wondering if when creating a character, do you have to stick to the „official“ civilizations/ races (Humans/elfs/orcs etc.) or can you also make up some new creature that’s sticking to typical attributes of some established character type if necessary?
Sorry for the wall of text
That's ultimately something you'd have to discuss with your DM.
They might let you simply reflavor one of the existing races: use the same rules but simply change the way it's described.
If you want to play a mousefolk, for example, you might decide the features of the halfling race make a good fit.
Variant human is always an idea.
So you'd write down the halfling rules and then just call yourself mouse.
Thank you!
You could also conceivably create a race with own brand new mechanics.
We'd call that a homebrew race.
Hey there
But I wouldn't recommend it to start.
Im incredibly new to DND and I want to learn
And certainly not without your DM's permission first.
Welcome! There's some good info in #learn-to-play to get you going, but did you have any specific questions?
How to make a character and if there's anyone who would help
I have a sheet but I'm still fuzzy on it
Because when my party made characters I kinda got ignored
Any ideas?
Yes the attack roll is usually tied to either your Strength or your Dexterity (for melee/ranged weapon attacks, depending on the weapon(
You should review this section of the basic rules
What have you got so far? Where are you stuck?
Attacks with a melee weapon use Strength. Ranged weapons use Dexterity. A weapon with the finesse property lets you choose STR or DEX.
question
Attacks with spells use your spellcasting ability: INT, WIS, or CHA depending on your class.
👍
is there such thing as a martial arts character? like a character that only uses martial arts no spells no weapons just hands
There’s the monk class
monk
If you want no magical features whatsoever (since Ki is technically magical) you can play another martial class and pick up the unarmed fighting style or pick a race with a natural weapon
Ki is described as magical.
You could simply change the way it's described for your own character.
Within the actual game rules, it's not considered magical.
mhm
It can still be used within an antimagic field, for example.
i just wanna be a one eyed muay thai fighter tbh
Do it!
i will when i eventually get into a campaign :p
Hello
Howdy
pretzel!
I wish to find a beginner friendly game with a DM who can handle my idiocy and lack of knowledge and experience when it comes to D&D.
Me toooo
#looking-for-dm might be a good place to post
I jumped straight into one with a friend that was nonstandard (RWBY themed) and with VERY experienced (and nerdy) players and I was WAY out of my league.
Thank you Ryan
I had a friend start at level 7 or sth lmao
We started at level 5
She picked it up quickly tho
And when I say experienced, I mean that they were playing for years and knew the rules very, very well
I'd think beginning you'd want to start at level 3. it's enough in the way of things you don't worry too much about instant death, but not enough to have to memorize or know your way around so many attributes
But you'll also learn the rules quicker ig
I was very confused and didn't know what to do half the time
Just punch
Roleplay comes to hard to me and, while I had watched RWBY since the day it came out, I was very rusty on the lore
Whats RWBY ?
It's a now sort of dead western "anime" made by Rooster Teeth (dead company)
I wish i could do that
Ow alr nice
Find the correct grimoire and cast the appropriate incantations.
Honestly, a TES themed game would be great since I am already quite familiar with the lore and I am quite invested in it.
?tag new abilities
Abilities
Six abilities provide a quick description of every creature's physical and mental characteristics: Strength, Dexterity, Constitution, Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma.
For each ability, your character has an ability score, a number from 1 to 20. There are three ways to determine ability scores, and your DM will let you know which to use. (If you don’t have a DM yet, choose Standard Array or Point Buy.)
- Roll the Dice. Roll 4d6 and record the total of the highest three. Do this six times, and then assign each total to a different ability.
- Standard Array. Assign each of the following numbers to a different ability: 15, 14, 13, 12, 10, 8.
- Point Buy. Choose your own ability scores by spending points.
After assigning your ability scores (and adding any bonuses from your race), determine your ability modifiers, a number from -5 to +5, using the Ability Scores and Modifiers table.
any paladin veterans out there who have any insight into the class for someone looking to try it out?
you looking from the perspective of min/max playing? or as role play?
honestly both, I have only very briefly played a character at all, I've always been a dm. I'm interested in knowing things like what skills are good/what to think about when leveling if you hjave any knowledge there?
from an RP perspective, I like reading through the sub-classes and understanding what might make it fun for me.
from a play style, I tend to gravitate toward front line skills that I can use to play a larger than life fighter that's been more or less feverent in their application of religion.
thank you!! I'll keep these in mind when making the paladin character I have been thinking about (:
what draws you to a paladin? or what draws your character?
#character-discussion Has people that can help you out.
For mechanically building a character effectively, stop by #optimization .
I've a question, how hard to find a game in this server?
As hard as you make it to some degree - see #looking-for-players and #looking-for-community and message any poster if you see a game you like or use the attached thread to message them.
That said, D&D games typically aren't an easy "pickup" type game and it may take days/weeks/months to get a game organized.
I actually not that new to dnd, I've been in many games groups (90% was one shots) before in my country, but I wanna play in english. Do you think people would accept me? Thx btw :)))
I don't see why not. I've heard of plenty of groups that have players from all over the world so it's definitely possible. 🙂
Let's be careful with single-post reacts/stickers - they can be an accessibility challenge for folks. Thanks!
Hello
when I buy the monsterbook, Essentials Kit, Starter Book and the Playersbook for the start.
is it good?
The Monster Monster Manual, Essentials Kit, and Starter set only needed if you are going to be the DM.
I'd suggest trying the game with just the free basic rules first and if you like it, invest in other materials

why do you need the starter pack only for DM?
Because Dndbeyond already provides a free copy of the basic rules and pre-generated characters.
So the main focus is on the adventure book Lost Mine of Phandelver, which is for the Dungeon Master who will run the adventure.
Or Stormwreck Isle, depending on which Starter Set you grab. Same advice, though!
oh alr so dndnbeyond is a website?
This YouTube Short shows you what is in the Starter and Essentials set: https://youtube.com/shorts/4Xn4J2Q-9_Q?si=BTsU_JSSbg1xddkq
Yes. Linked in the bot post above.
oh ty and in the Starter pack isn´t a rule book?
It includes with a physical copy of the free basic rules but again, you can already access that on dnd beyond for free.
How long does a game of dnd usually last?
Do you mean a session or an adventure?
Adventure
I'd say the essential kit would be worth it for players because it comes with physical cards that explain parts of the game that you can have on hand while you play.
It depends on how often you play, how long for, and how large the adventure. Some can be done in one session, others can take a dozen or so, while others can be close to (or even well into) triple digits.
Ah so it just depends...
Yep!
Alright
oh alright. But the thing is that my friend has the big rulebook and he could give it to me. because if the basic rules are in there I´d use it
The Basic Rules have less than the Player’s Handbook, so if you can read the PHB, you’re set!
okay ty, I guess I will read the PHB and then I will play with Starter Set and Essentials Kit
btw are the adventures in Starter Set and Essentials Kit cool?
I haven’t played either, but folks report very good experiences with both!

Hi people, does anyone know what edition of DnD the Drowns are in? I'm looking for it for the Roll20 character template, a friend is a drown and in the fifth edition template only the high elves appear from the elf subrace, helppp
Do you mean drow?
You would need to have access to the Player’s Handbook for the drow rules.
yeah I have it
Then that’s a Roll20 question. Folks in #third-party may be able to help, but their Discord would be my recommended next stop.
oh ty
Anyone know will we get a new starter set with the new edition in the next month?
