Oh ok
And - not everyone follows every channel. You might get more/different responses from those following the dm channel compared to those following the newcomer channel. I kind of ran across this question by accident.
i know im new to the conversation and this is random but i have a teacher named mr smith and your name kinda jump scared me š
That's a first.
dont worry im assuming you arent anything like my teacher, hes ... š¬
Anyone want to play, I can not play
Have you tried looking here in #find-a-game or somewhere like Roll20?
Whatās roll20?
TTRPG Site for playing online
table top roleplaying game = TTRPG btw if you werernt already aware
Oooooooooooo ok that makes sense. Iāve never played a round of dnd but I have a full character set up š¤£
Ahhh I thougt there was no find game but they put it all the way down. Thx
I am trying to make my first character sheet and was thinking of making them young ish to explain why they/I donāt know anything. I chose half elf but I am a little confused on their aging. And if I go too young do people typically not like to have a young character/child character on their party?
You can life experience before adventuring. Just think of a new level 1 adventurer straight out of the academy/college/school.
I do have backstory for them but was thinking if they are young then the group can like mentor them kinda. Part of it was that their mentor died maybe before they got taught som stuff
Whether younger characters are acceptable is a discussion youād have to have with your group.
Whether young character/children are acceptable in a campaign will vary, but talk to your DM/fellow players. Some people have a problem with it because (a) players may use it as an excuse to behave "childishly" in a manner that's obnoxious or unhelpful to the group or (b) they aren't comfortable with the adult subject matter (violence etc) in the presence of a "child".
Ok that makes sense tysm! I donāt have a group atm this character is just to see how to do one but I will ask when I do :D
Hi there I'm new to this dnd
I have my character on dnd beyond. So how could I start playing š

Going to start my first campaign soon and am picking up a players handbook. I noticed that there's different editions, does it matter which one I grab ?
I ask bc the players handbook is $25 on Amazon but there's a 4th edition on fb marketplace for $5
theyre completely different rulesets, 5th edition is the latest, and what you should probably get
Thank you for your time ā¤ļø
all good!
do i just start typing in the find a game channel or is there a specific way to enter information?
because I have a group of 5 that are entirely ready to go, just need a dm to host
that channel is for instructions to use the other channels. just read it carefully
so
Hey can someone please help me get started with dnd

I'm new
i found #750812887697588356 , but i cant seem to post anything to it
Read the instructions in #find-a-game
i have, I just dont understand it
there is a bot you give instructions to. the bot will post your game or your player profile and create a threat where you can communicate with others who are interested
so how do i comunicate to the bot
do i just type in find a game? or do I just pm the bot
You start typing /looking- and see wht pops up
oh ok
alright, I understand the command now, now which channel do i use it in so that it does not flood the channels
or can no one else see it
The bot will create the post in the right channel - the bot deletes your command regardless of which channel you use it in but feel free to use #find-a-game to run the command.
thank you for help me out]
Is there a way to change the looking-for-dm message to show the paid dm box to be checked?
Not after you posted. If itās for a paid game next time use the paid bot command
This is why we tell folks to read (carefully) #find-a-game
We had changed our minds after we had posted. It was our bad.
I mean you can add additional info in the attached thread to your post but thatās it until your timer is reset when the bot deletes your post after 7 days.
You could try getting started with a D&D starter kit
Just gather a few friends, read the manuals inside the kit and have fun!
Oh, and another thing, if you'd like a bit more of a visual guide on things like: D&D etiquette, being a good DM or good story telling in general
You could check out:
Hope this helps
And good luck!
I have never ever played dnd in my life but Iāve heard so many things about it and I really want to learn and try and stuff but I have no idea what to do or how to start, would it be possible for someone to teach me a bit about the game?

This is the first step, but if you need help with clarifying something, like why X is like that, or whatever, feel free to ask
Just so Iām aware of something. While going through the dnd world, with my starting weapon being a long sword, will you find better long swords?
you can, in the form of Magic Items
but there's no real level scaling like video-games, a longsword is always a longsword at heart
There are some better longswords but they are very rare
This isn't like a videogame where you get better loot as you progress
Oooooo ok. Because I know you can like get silver and infuse your weapon with it at a forge or something
so from the most basic rusty zombie loot to the legendary liquidator of celestial bargains (or whatever your DM says exists), it's a 1d8 damage weapon - but super powerful magic items might deal extra damage via virtue of being a magic item, such as a Flame Tongue, a Rare item, doing bonus fire damage
Did you post?
hi
Hi im new to this
Welcome! Check the pinned messages here in the channel - lots of useful links/resources to help get you started with D&D!
Hello, where do I go for DMing advice?
Thanks!
Is this channel for people new to D&D, or new to the server?
The former, mostly.
Thanks. I'm in the wrong place then
Hello! :)
Welcome!
Hi! How are you?
Not bad. You?
Ok, I spent a lot of today watch dnd videos and making a Pinecrest board for my character
Pintrest*
I can't spell lol
What kind of character?
A dark Druid
Sounds fun!
Thx! Gtg bai!
can a kobold be at least 4 feet tall
You can flavour them as being 4 feet tall
As long as it doesnāt exceed the small height threshold, itās fine RAW. Talk to your dm if you want to go any higher
oh no i just want the character to be shorter than an average human but not too short like 2 feet
Actually there isnāt even a small size threshold in 5e
Yeah thatās fine
Basically RAW doesnāt really say how tall you can be, soā¦
Use your best judgment and be sensible
i'm a returning playert
Welcome
Have you played 5e before, or just older editions?
i think? i'm not entirely sure, i've had some minor experience with dnd, i understand the basics, but i wouldn't say i'm a conossouier

Hello...
I'm would say i'm new to DnD but that would be wrong because i don't know anything about it
i just know that it is a tabletop rpg
i know there is a dm and that basic stuff
But nothing else, i know literally nothing

hey i just created my first character and looking for some people to play with
Check #find-a-game
Hii

I'm popping in here because I'm going to have a group gathering in about a week, and I know all my friends would really love to play d&d, but none of us has ever really before. So I'm kind of looking for some ambitious d&d veteran who'd drop in my dms and help me learn how to DM for them, it doesn't have to be perfect or anything, but I really would love to surprise them with it
I'm willing to spend/print/get supplies and stuff
The basic rules linked above is free, and has everything you need to play right away! There's plenty of other supplemental material that you can purchase which adds more options to what you can do, and to the characters you make.
I read a bunch of guides and all but I think I'm missing a lot
I picked out a campaign that is supposedly super begginer friendly and suitable for a small party
Check out the link below for some tips š! Or check out our #dm-discussion channel to ask some questions to the dozens of experienced DMs here on the server!
- In Dungeons & Dragons, one person serves as the Dungeon Master, the gameās lead storyteller and referee. The DM runs the adventure for the players, who navigate its hazards and decide which paths to explore.
- Learn how to be a Dungeon Master with this YouTube video or D&D Beyond article.
- The Basic Rules are available at no cost and cover everything you need to know to play.
- Decide what kind of campaign you want to run. Hereās a few good options for new DMs.
- Get advice from your fellow Dungeon Masters in #dm-discussion and #dm-world-building.
Thank you for the link! I'll certainly read through it, and check out the challen as well!

you are literally me lol
Hah, glad to hear!!
I want to play DnD with my friends too and i want to be the DM
I'm super nervous about this whole thing but I think it'd be so cool
the only problem is none of my friends and me know anything about DnD
In order for me to play though, i will have to teach my friends. Some people suggested cairn as a begginer friendly campaign so i will give it a try.
Same! haha
I just want to be knowledged enough to be able to coach them though
Same!! haha! I picked a campaign online that is suppossed to be short and begginer friendly
i would actually like to be a player but i doubt that any of my friends would be able to DM
even if they could be a good DM they wouldnt want to learn what DnD is
I know i sound quite mean putting it like this but this was the only way i could explain it.
hey im new to dnd and none of my friends are into that kind of stuff what should i do?
You can always find a game online
I wand to play but dont know how to start and i dont get dnd beyond

Ok tnx
The website and app are free to begin with, certain content must be purchased to gain access
Starting my first ever campaign off and we're doing the curse of strode, is it necessary to have a healer in group?
Strod*?
Not necessarily. There are plenty of items and abilities that can help you if an ally goes down in combat. Having someone fully dedicated to the role of just healing people is actually a bad idea. Having some healing abilities is good, of course, but even clerics are still surprisingly good damage dealers and battle field controllers
Strahd*
I think having someone who can cast healing word at least will make things much easier, but its not strictly required to have a dedicated healer
Wicked funny I spelt it wrong twice š
Hi everyone
Healing spells will make things easier, but its absolutely possible to just get by on healing potions and healer's kits
Hey, I just joined this discord server because I wanna start playing dnd with people since i've moved away from my old town and don't have anyone to play with so I was wondering if someone could help me navigate? I haven't played dnd online with others, only in person š„²

Is sorcerer good
If you find it fun to play then yes, sorcerer is good
Some folks have other opinions but I found playing sorcerer fairly fun - although they do tend to be on the squishy side so stay at range if you can.
I rolled 19 on charisma.
4d6 keep highest 3 should only net you an 18 unless you're adding in racial/specie bonuses?
At any rate make sure to check with your DM/group on how they like to generate character stats.
Hello, so im really intrested into learning D&D but i know absolutely nothing about it. Are there any groups i can join that are possibly online??

^ Here's info on how to use our LFG channels to find a group to join/play D&D with.
wow thanks dude. Cant wait to try it for the first time!!
I'd recommend checking out the free basic rules here: https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/basic-rules
Finding a group can take some time (schedules, life, etc.)
Also check the pinned messages here in the channel - some useful info and links to help get you started.
will do. Also just a question. DnD is heavy on roleplay right?
Really depends on the group and type of D&D game they're playing.
Some are heavier in role play than others. Some are combat-heavy.
ok thanks!!
So how hard is it to find someone that is not super serious? Or is that a no go?
Really depends. No real way to know unless they specify that up front or in their game posting they explain the tone of the game.
There is no way to generalize the level of āseriousnessā of availabile games
It is table and DM specific
Ahhh, which means I got some testing to do?
Well just ask the DM and group about the style of the game
Finding good player/DM like dating ā it's a relationship you're trying to start and find out more about the other person.
Even some serious games will have moments of silliness before getting back to the core game theme
Yep, I'm good at that dating thing, It'll work out
Thanks for the tip now I gotta hunt
Are reaction spells always auto hit or do they require me to beat the AC of the target?
Like hellish rebuke
It depends on the spell.
the spell will say what it requires
in hellish rebuke's case, it says: "The creature must make a Dexterity saving throw. It takes 2d10 fire damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one."
im basically clueless about dnd, i mean, i know some-most of it but i just really wanna be a DM, cuz it sounds like a whole lotta fun!, but i dont know if i know enough to be a DM, so thats really only why im saying this here! So, some pointers would be nice! (also, took me ten[now 12] minutes to write this lol) thx.

Should join a dnd campaign first or create a character
Make a practice character, but be prepared to make a new character once you join a campaign
Ok
Or be prepared to alter your pre-made character to fit the campaign
First, have you had a look at the basic rules?
Uhm... i played bg 3 and looked at stuff like what the character sheet means
Like, all the stuff in it
Other than that no
Probably have a quick look at the basic rules linked in the pinned messages. Thereās a few differences from bg3
Hello
I just made my first character sheet thingy and idk where or if I should post it here
If you're looking for feedback on it, #character-discussion is the place to go.
Okay, thanks!
am new to d&d anything i should know about the game
you should have a look at the basic rules
Read the rules (or at least get somewhat familiar with them), watch some folks play (YouTube/Twitch), try your hand at making a character, then find some firends and start playing.
ok thank

am go to read the rules frist then make my charater
There's a dnd club at my local library, is it too late to join?
I don't know - ask them?
Hi all my first post and hoping to get some help along the way and maybe help some others too. I'm a totally new player with just the essentials kit at home and looking to get involved with maybe some online play
Me as well

There we go @little fractal ^
Thank you so much!
Hello
@little fractal good luck and have fun
Hello! Iām rather new to the game and literally only know how to play cleric š I hope to make new friends!
Greetings, I would like to ask. To what degree BG3 and DnD 5e have same rules because I haven't really played DnD yet and I'm worried they could mix up.
They have enough of an overlap that you can get the jist of one from the other, but not so much you can learn one from the other
BG3 makes a number of significant changes to the rules
So that means I should probably watch out so I won't mix them up when I will get to DnD.
Thank you.

Nice man
If u buy a physical players handbook theres no like code in the back so you can have it bought on d&dbeyond right
Yes, the only way to get a digital code for DDB and a physical book is to buy through Wizard's online store so they can authenticate your purchase. There are no codes inside books
Correct - DnDBeyond is purely digital and there's not a way to confirm a physical book purchase.
Yeah Lion said it well.
Buying through wizards gets you both for the price of one?
I think it is $10 more expensive than the physical, but maybe UndyingNoob knows better
No - it's a different product (physical + digital) so it has a different price
Yeah it's usually about a $10 difference
Prices may go up because of printing/shipping increases in cost.
( i think its ususally more than $10 if you compare to street price instead of msrp)
Yeah, I believe Wizards sells physical at MSRP, and the digital+physical bundle is $10 more than that
?books
There are five ways to access content on D&D Beyond that you may have in your physical books
- Purchase the full book from the marketplace
- Purchase individual elements from the marketplace (options can be found within the book description)
- Purchase a digital/physical bundle from dndstore.wizards.com
- Join a campaign with someone who already owns the book where content sharing has been enabled
- Use the homebrew tools to copy the content from your physical book into D&D Beyond. Note: Do not publish any content copied in this way, it is for personal use only
though it should still be a better deal to buy the bundle than street price + DDB purchase seperately
Getting a little off topic
It goes from $30 to $60 u do not save
You do save against the MSRP, Wizards of the Coast does not dictate what retailers sell at
If a retailer wants to sell below MSRP, that's their call
Do you guys prefer the physical or digital copy of the players handbook?
I like to read through it physically from time to time, but I scanned and saved it as a pdf so I can always send excerpts on our session's group chat if need be.
It's down to personal preference
Physical... by far
It's a dead tie for me, they both have advantages
Digital for me. Makes it easy to take the whole collection wherever I go. Itās all cross-linked and easy to jump right where I need.
Has anyone tried running it solo with the use of an oracle?
Digital for having the content accessible on a VTT, otherwise physical for life. Love reading the books
You're going to have to explain what an oracle is in this context, but it sounds like something outside the scope of this channel
@crude musk it's a book that aids in the running of a solo game it gives you decisions based on dice rolls
I just downloaded the app and made a character
How do me and my brother play together
yeah, that'd be something more for #dnd-discussion as playing the game solo isn't how it's intended to be played and thus falls a bit outside the scope of newcomer discussion
What is the average time length of leveling up your character?
Hello everyone I'm James. My friends call me Fox. I'm still really really new to D&D and becoming very interested in trying it out but would like to know more about it or maybe make new friends that would take me in. Or something idk I know I'll be a newbie so probably no one probably would take a new guy in but I'd like to make new friends to either learn D&D or play some pc or console games. Idk
You would need someone to DM for you to run the game
Plenty of nice people here with tonnes of information just gotta be patient for replies
Ohk
Have you read the basic rules?
I asked in all the channels just got ignored š
Yes.
dungeon master
Yeah I have a college that talk me into it an I they a have group and in the middle of a campaign ATM but idk I have been getting bored of playing video games really and have been want to try something different š
No, you go to #find-a-game, read the instructions, and then either submit a game post or reply to one
Try find an online game or a local game store to see if they are running anything
Thank you so much!
I have been poking around in roll 20 I have been seeing that a lot of people have been charging people $5 to like $30 a session or per session š¤ so I am just trying g brawden my horizon and and idk I feel terrible asking to join when I have zero experience in playing. Also idk I guess I'm afraid no one is going to want a newbie.
Everyone was new at some point just talk to the DM see f they are fine with newcomers, most should be fine
Ty
You can select Free to Play in the search on Roll20. Everyone starts somewhere, just keep your eyes open for newcomer friendly or beginner games. Oh, and look the Basic Rules if you haven't already.
I skimmed it but I will read through it completely an I know to the free to play option on roll20 but it's always the shyness side and hesitant to something new you know or kinda like the stage fright of asking the question you know idk
It's hard to explain it.šššidk I guess I'm a big chicken like shaggy and Scooby-Doo, if you know what I mean.
ight guys this is my first Character correct me if i did anything wrong
do i send my rule20 character vault link

Reading up on the rules questions makes me realize how complex D&D can get. No idea how I'm ever supposed to know all of this as a DM.
if elves can trance, does that mean that they only have to long rest for 4 hours? or is it still 8 hours?
That's why D&D Beyond exists and is as successful as it is; people need tools to make it easy to look things up
We have #dnd-rules for rules questions
To be fair, you seem to be pretty knowledgeable Davyd. I'm impressed, if that matters. š
Eh, you look something up enough times, it sticks
Also agreed on D&DBeyond. Which worries me a bit to be fair, I'm not exactly sure I'm looking forward to what's coming... but at the same time I can barely see my group play without it anymore.
and what doesnt' stick, you just get good at looking up fast
Well at least that's comforting. Although so far I've mostly didn't have to deal with more complex scenarios on a regular evening.
As a DM, the most important thing to remember is that you don't need to get the rules right, you just need to get them right enought to be fun in the moment
You can always look the 'right' answer up later
That's a mindset I'm trying to have from the get-go. I try to prioritize fun at the table without it being game breaking or unbalanced. In case of doubt, rule of cool and deal with it after the game. I'm glad that I'm not playing with rule lawyers. š
I like having the game be difficult but still fun
welcome need any helps
Welcome!
I, too, am also new to D&D! š Still working on my character
Well, just the backstory of him and such

D&D beyond is a fantastic source for making a character. The basic options still leave plenty of room for flair
Atleast for me the basic rules look pretty complicated lol
From a first look atleast
Does height give extra in intimidation
No.
Well met everyone... How are you doing?
Alright
Say, if I'm looking for a game to join, where do I go?
#find-a-game can point you in the right direction.
Hey me and my friends are completely new to the dnd scene and was wondering how to get started like we tried using dnd beyond then had no idea what to do after making our characters any idea what to do?
Find a campaign you like and one of you run it as DM
Well, assuming you have a base line familiarity with the game rules, and you have enough people in your friend group, you have 1 person be the DM, and they plan out and run a campaign for you. Or you can use one of the published ones
oh okay i see also we are not at ALL familiar with the game rules but is there a guide to being a DM because I heard it takes a lot
I suggest heading over to #dm-discussion for DMing advice.

Hello new here
Hi everyone!
I have no clue whatsoever bout all of this, just wanna try things , thanks for welcoming me, hope i can learn how to do this seems fun

Both are linked above.
Thank you! Completely new to dnd so this'll help a lot
Goddang okok thanks was also planing to play this with my friends
I played a ttrpg campaign with some friends but I assume it's completely different since we pretty much made up everything
Very much welcome
ok what all of the race cause i see place have new race but some don“t have them (am talking about websites)
Hey everyone, my buddy and I were thinking about getting into the game. Itād be just us two as I doubt our wives would have any interest. Any ideas for where to start and what to do for just two?
Hmmm lost mines is a good start adventure
Doable for two? What Iāve read online is that typically for just two one is the dm and the other is the player. Is that right?
Any way for both to be player?
ahh thought 2 players and someone is dm
well thats more difficult
I've heard of workarounds in D&D for duet play (one player, one DM) or solo play (one player alone) but not no DM. For that you might look at a GMless games like Ironsworn.
Weak might not be the right word, as a wizard can do some mighty powerful things with spells.
Wizards are, however, fragile. If you're looking for a class that mixes close weapon combat and basic, check out Paladin or Ranger, for starters.
The armorer subclass for the Artificer class gets magic missile as one of their subclass spells, and they are extremely good at close range combat
Hey. Im very new to DnD, never played in fact. I have a usage understanding of how the game is played (based on a college DnD club) and Iām just wondering if anyone ever plays this online or not a thing?
Online play is very common. Maybe more so than in person
A lot of people have moved over to online play thanks to the pandemic.
Very much welcome and it is a normal Thing to play online
?tag new online
Good to know!^^
Unfortunately the timings of the DnD club in my college overlap with my classes so I canāt play with them like I want to
There is an old saying I once heard: "There are 3 places where you can always find a D&D game, collage, the army, and prison."
All you need to play D&D is a group of 4 to 5 (ish) people, and some free time. Finding a game online is absolutely an option, but you could also play with some of your friends or classmates outside of the club, if you wanted
Slay
Usually dragons
Aren't you supposed to seduce these ?
We Dont use that dark magic
Understandable
So my understanding is that you get to build your lore, but wb canon? Where do you find that?
As an aspiring dm, i shall make sure to keep bards away from anything that can be seduced, just in case
There's lots of places to find D&D canon depending on the setting. Adventure books, setting guides, novels, and other media can have lore about a place, but you don't need to use any of it if you don't want.
Each table will effectively have its own canon, where the DM makes the story flow and chooses what applies from the setting or adventures
Well, D&D has multiple settings, and each one has its own canon. You can learn more about them from different sourcebooks, like Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide or Eberron: Rising from the Last War.
Or, you can go to our #dnd-lore channel and discuss it here
But how the world works and stuff in the end of the day lies in the hands of the dm
But the books give a perfect start
You could run phandelver and below, using all of its lore, and tying other stuff to that
Or just say the ancient civilization didn't exist in your canon
I see
I like knowing the gist of canon (for any fandom in general) to not make my OCās really OP with their skills and for mental imagery
oh boy
The major settings of D&D (e.g., the Forgotten Realms, Spelljammer, Dragonlance, Eberron, Greyhawk) all have wikis you can peruse. Some are more detailed than others, but it's a starting place.
to get a base around that there is a good variety of content creators that can explain lore and inhabitants
And if you want a guide on character and classes
Crap guide to dnd by jocat
Fun to watch and explains the necessary stuff
Is it bad to say this is one of my only experiences with the game ?
Thatās good to know because I was not expecting so many classes š
For now no if it stays like that we might have to throw you into a pit with tiamat
Jk ofc
I at least know enough to know this would be very, very bad
I think there can be worse
Tarrasque ?
Hahahaha cute
nervous chuckle
if you got more questions you can always ask around
now imma head back to discussion

Hey guys. Going to be taking part in my first ever DnD session with five friends on Saturday. None of us have ever played before , so was just wondering what essential things we should all bring to make our first session good/great.
Things we have currently thought of:
- Beer
- Pizza
- 1x Character Sheet each
- 1x figure each
- A 5e player guide to share between us
- The DM is also bringing his own DM guide, monster guide and maps. He has never DM'd or played before though, so anything he should also bring?
Cheers!
Dice!
Don't forget the dice! Though there's plenty of phone apps which can simulate rolls
Oh shit yeh of course, we are also each bringing a set of dice! How did I forget that haha
By "5e player guide" do you mean the "Player's Handbook" or is that a written guide?
A few notepads and pencils/pens can always come in handy.
Because a Player's Handbook, or at the very least access to the free online Basic Rules is a must-have as well
Has anyone here RP as a Dragon?
Yeah like in a game. (Taking on a more Villainous role)
Ahhh
Thats a lovely task for every dungeon master
I myself tend to do a more gutteral and deep voice
what can help to rp these is to make a lil checklist like
What am i . what is my goal. how do i achieve it.
Thats my go to list to rp such beigns
Also i got a voice changer if iam lazy
xD
Oh thatās smart š
Yea captivating a enemy and make the player immersed is a good skill to learn
Proceeds to speak in Pop auto tuned voice
Slay
The ancient Red dragon never gets old
Stuff to write on and stuff to write with. Otherwise, you've got anything I'd expect to need.
anymore questions ?
Okay thanks guys and girls. A pen and paper is a good shout, didn't think of that.
Pencil ideally. Mistakes are likely.
dont forget the player tear cup to collect character death tears
Not for now but Iāll be back when I do
Alrighty
We've actually invested in a bucket for this reason.

a good idea to have something that also divides the dms lil workspace from the playing area, to also hide their notes and dice rolls :)
I am going to try using the solo youtube guided video by seth jones to teach me how to start playing 5E
it says that I can use my character sheet on D&D beyond and keep track of hitpoints etc.
are you able to level your character on D&D beyond by doing this ?
Yep.
so it knows I am learning just by changing stats and doing things on the character sheet?
Huh?
D&D Beyond is a digital character sheet.
What do you mean āit notes I am learningā? What is āitā
right just wanted to make sure as i do these solo runs that i can lvl up
It contains class info, abilities, etc.āincluding the ability to level up.
great thanks
IT was D&D beyond digital sheet
thank you all for quick responses
wish me luck....going in!

Whats unearthed arcana? Just d&d in a futuristic setting?
Itās playtest content.
Itās beta content.
If theyāre working on a new book, theyāll sometimes release an early version of pieces they want feedback on.
Usually character options, like new subclasses or spells.
Theyāre currently working on an updated version of the core rulebooks to basically just streamline things a bit.

Chris Perkins and Jeremy Crawford update us on the 2024 Core Rulebooks, design, monsters art and Unearthed Arcana feedback.
#dnd #dungeonsanddragons #dnd5e
I saw some of the spells involved technology tho like cameras
There was one Unearthed Arcana that explored that topic, but it never made it to final print, so itās not an official part of the game.
That was an old one to think about doing DND in a modern setting. It never got a continuation, so it remains UA content, like an old beta that never got anything further.
How do I play dnd? I bought the game but what am I supposed to do next?
What specifically did you buy? There isnāt a single dnd game to buy
the starter set one
Right
So, basically, it's a TTRPG. It's not a videogame with a start button - it's a set of rules to help grant consistency and scaling to a story you're roleplaying in.
I survived with 1 HP left but I did live
yeah ok
so should I look for other people with the same game?
like what do I do now?
so to play it, it's more of a... Finding a group and scheduling a recurring time to join together to continue the story. And you simply use the rules to help with consistency, so it's not "i hit you" "did not" - everything's managed by actions and bonuses and what's been granted, and so on.
Read the information included in the starter set
The rules exist to determine what abilities you do get, how much you start with, and then the DM lets you advance in levels and gives you magic items, and so on
um yall if you don't know you dont have to say anything lol
This is basically all there is to say
this is what knowing is
I'm in like, 3 games, one of which I run
oh i see
the rules are our unbiased arbitration for who wins in a fight between X and Y
oh so I use the starter set to learn to play the game and then I go out and find other people who also know how to play?
Pretty much
what? this kinda makes no sense
What about it doesnāt make sense
so if i never find other people I can never play the game?
Thereās a very low chance of that
It's a TTRPG. You've got the rules, a character, and your DM describes what's going on. You describe what your character does, anything you try to do that has a possibility of failure and success is down to a roll of dice. Your DM describes the results of it. A chain of action, proactive behavior and reactive results.
And if you don't find anyone, keep looking.
You can look online, ask friends if they want to play, look at local game stores, etc
It took me like 3+ years of nothingburgers before I found my group
some people find their group in 3 hours
of course, what was little draw to me may be exactly what someone else wants
so really your telling me i wasted my money whoops
wait this kinda sounds fun
there you go, you're getting it
the starter set should include a short adventure to help a group get started with how DND works yeah
hello
Welcome, got any questions?
what do i do to start playing?
Find a group, basically.
It's not like a videogame with a start button, you need to group up with other people to have a story unfold, and you use the rules to assist the story.
oh ok thanks.
It's like how Gmod isn't really a game you just boot up and it's automatically got everything preset, but people make games within it, like someone making the Murder gamemode, or the TTT gamemode, people using the rules of the source engine to make their style.
Similarly, you can use the rules of DND to run gothic horror in Ravenloft, glorious heroism in wartime in Dragonlance, sea-sailing pirate battles, ancient civilization dungeon delving, lich hunting, jaunts through the land of the fey, and so on.
aside from that is there anything else i should know?
That's a very open question - it's better to detail what you need help with
oh i dont really know much to i was just wondering if there was anything else i should know like just a basic rule
ok oh thanks

Hey guys just sharing d&d appreciation here! Found my first group and we already had a session 0 and will be going in for session 1 tomorrow, so stoked
can someone explain to me what Adventurers League is? I know D&D and I've played a lot but I've never played Adventurers League. Myself and my GF have signed up for one. Do they like restart the AP every week or like continue to play the story even with different players? I'm so confused I don't get how it works
?al
The D&D Adventurers League is an ongoing official campaign for Dungeons & Dragons. It uses the fifth edition Dungeons & Dragons rules, and features the Forgotten Realms setting. You can play D&D Adventurers League games literally anywhere. Players use the fifth edition rules to create a character and bring that character to games anywhere D&D Adventurers League play is happening.

If I drink a bottle of holy water am I immune to vampires
Thatās a good question
Doesnāt say it does so it doesnāt
so, im new to dnd, so I don't thave a good grasp on all the classes yet.
is there any way to be a pacifist, and if so, what would be the best class? Something more stealth orientated or a cleric?
Yes there are ways to play pure support and not do any damage
Just be aware that once your spells run out you may not have anything to do and not be useful in combat
yeah thats true :/
I would like to ask, the component pouch is for all materials that don't have value right? so if I am understanding this correctly, for story and game speed purposes, it is just assumed you have all the non-precious materials you need to cast spells?
Yeah - think of it as an easy out for the DM and players not to have to track every little thing mechanically.
I see also If I may ask, in the PHB there are different feats with no requirements, does that mean players can just have them? (I haven't read a lot about feats yet)
Feats are an optional rule and the DMs can decide to allow them or not.
When there is a level up where a character can improve their ASI (Attribute Skill Increase), they can instead take a feat.
But again, up to the DM to allow or not.
so when a character reaches a level that gives them ability score improvement, such as 4th level in a class, that gives them the ability score improvement (or ASI) feature
the optional feats rule can let you take a Feat in place of an instance of ASI from class levels
The player would be giving up their normal ASI increase to take a feat.
so it's not free, it's a choice.
You needed to invest in the class / get to that level in the first place
You need to choose not to just get 2 points to sink into ability scores (2 in 1 or 1 in 2), and you need to choose 1 feat to take out of many options
ohhhh ok thanks
btw im not sure but is this the best place to discuss this kind of trivial questions or would it be in #dnd-discussion ?
Really depends on the topic - I'd suggest checking id:browse to see all the many channels and then checking the channel description to make sure it really does cover the topic you want to discuss before posting int the, Oh yeah we do have #channel-guide to help explain the channels too.
If you're new to D&D though this channel would work
as long as the questions are typical new to D&D questions and not "how does this spell weirdly interact with <feature>?" (that can go in #dnd-rules)
well in a way I am new and have only been watching other people play the game for a while now, but tnx for the advice.
Should I wait to buy the one d&d handbook instead of 5eās handbook or will 5eās book still be needed
Either or, people will still play with the old core rule books and people will go with the latest editions, the dnd team said on their latest YouTube video that both could be used at the same table
Is one d&d gonna have all the subclasses from players handbook and tashas and xanthars in one book?
I'm new what should I get to get started on d&d

Hello everyone! Newbie here and playing my first game tomorrow. I have built a character, Tortle Druid that will join circle of stars if/when we get to that point. I already have proficiency in arcana based off class or stats I chose. I made a custom background that grants me additional proficiency in arcana.
Do I add another +2 to arcana to make it +5 from my background?
No, proficiencies do not stack:
Your proficiency bonus canāt be added to a single die roll or other number more than once. For example, if two different rules say you can add your proficiency bonus to a Wisdom saving throw, you nevertheless add the bonus only once when you make the save.
https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/basic-rules/using-ability-scores#ProficiencyBonus
If a character would gain the same proficiency from two different sources, he or she can choose a different proficiency of the same kind (skill or tool) instead.
https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/basic-rules/personality-and-background#Proficiencies
Hey guys! So Iām brand new to DND! I watch Oxventures but I am very āfreshā I basically want to be a Penguin and found a race (Arakocra) which I think could allow me do do that? Would love to get help on what to do and learn before my first game!
You can certainly reflavor an official race like aarakocra and say its whatever type of bird you like.
As long as you don't change how it works, you can describe it however you like.
Welcome! The bot post below ā¬ļø will give you a link to the free basic rules, as well as some other helpful tips and tools

But in this specific case, penguins are different enough from your typical bird that you might have better luck with something other than aarakocra.
Perhaps one of the aquatic races like water genasi, sea elf, or triton.
Awesome thank you!
Iāll do my research!
Hello everyone! Me and my friends are doing a Game of Thrones DnD campaign based on the books and show. Does anyone have any Game of Thrones Character sheets by chance?
You would be better off using the actual, officially licensed game of thrones tabletop roleplaying game rather than D&D
Why do say that? Iām new to the game so Iām still learning I know we would basically all have to be fighters or Rogues
D&D is designed to be D&D, not Game of Thrones
The Game of Thrones TTRPG is designed to be Game of Thrones, not D&D
It's like using a butter knife to drive in a screw; sure, you technically can do it, but a tool built for the purpose will work better
Sorry but how long do I usually have to wait to find a game after I use the # find a game
It can take time sometimes its fast sometimes weeks or longer
It varies
Per the rules, yes, but most groups tend to ignore that one.
(Or rather, they just assume everyone is eating regularly until a situation arises where they canāt.)
Oh ok so if i was an undead i also would need to eat or no
Many undead have a rule that specifies they donāt need to eat.
The Reborn race option, for example, doesn't need to eat.
So unless yours has something to that effect, then yes, you still need to eat.
Mine is a skeleton also what is the reborn race?
Also is there a undead who can change his apperence into human looking?
Reborn is one of the lineage options, for your playable race, from Van Richtan's Guide to Ravenloft. They are intended to be a person that has been brought back from the dead, but their creature type is still Humanoid. There are no playable races that actually have the creature type "undead"
You can flavor the appearance of your character however you wish (even into a skeleton, with DM permission) but you still must use the game mechanics from one of the published playable races.
(Unless your DM says otherwise)
Because my character that i want to make is the son of a fairy and a human and he was born whit magical powers allredy and he uses his magic to generate chaos and a lot of harm unitil one day a mage cursed him making into a undead he still converse his magic doe and also make him a curse that evry night he will feel like his skin is buring and in a lot of pain and the curse made him reliase all the horrible things he has done and decide to try to fix all tje prolems that he had cause and trying to help evreyone he can because he doesnt know but evry good thing that he does it lowers the lever of pain of evrey night
And also after the curse he became a cleric
Is this character ok whit dnd?
That's up to the DM. Personally, I think it's better to acquaint yourself with the available options and make a character from them, rather than creating a character in your own mind then trying to squeeze it into the rules of D&D.
Many DMs will work with you to make your character idea viable in D&D, but some compromises will likely have to be made.
Ok
What type of compromises?
Hello! I am Aleksa, a real DND newbie. I DM-d twice, with our own set of rules that was basic, and my campaigns were never good, atleast not enough to get people to follow the quests and not just go on and kill children in the village (real story). I want to try real dnd, while I have no knowledge of the real rules, I would happy to learn, and also try out myself as a player. Can somebody help me where I can find any one shots/campaigns where I could try myself out as a player, and where can I learn more about the game itself (so I dont sound like a complete idiot)? Thanks!

That varies too widely to generalize. Some DMs restrict player options because of the setting or the given campaign's tone. Some are open to whatever.
If I was looking for a group tailored towards new players or one that is more beginner friendly, should I just use the # find a game or is their a better way to start to learn the game?

Question guys, help would be insanely appreciated.
- So I'm getting ready for my character creation with my DM and I'm just a little confused by it all. So I'm a wood elf Rogue with a background as a sailor. I'm having trouble understanding which weapons i should be using
Should I stick strictly with dex weapons like dagger and rapier? With my mini crossbow ofc
Or would I be just as good using other weapons that the wood elf part is proficient at
Generally as a rogue, you want to use any weapons that'll allow you to use Sneak Attack.
Dex weps are the best for rouge as you can dump you high stats into dex while keeping your ranger abilities up, but you can use anything really
Anything with finesse and anything that's classified as a ranged weapon would be all you need!
Study your rogue features particularly Sneak attack
And that will dictate what weapons you should be using
Awesome guys, thank you all
You'll find your damage decreases significantly the second you start swinging around a warhammer, for example.
I'll definitely have to look up sneak attack. Been slowly studying the handbook
Sneak attack is the main rogue feature
All of the classes have features that will tell you what stats they rely on and what equipment is best for them
How to what
Iām gonna e honest I have a friend who played rouge with a great sword he got off our first main enemy and did fine for the first half of the campaign due to lucky rolls and a high str stat
At that point youāre not a rogue, youāre essentially classless
You arenāt proficient with your weapon, you arenāt getting anything out of your class features, and you donāt even have extra attack
Thatā¦is not how a rogue works.
I am incredibly aware and it was hilarious due to his lack of proficiency or use of sneak attacks until level 11
ā¦did no one try and help him?
that is not instructive for how to play tho
We did and he said since it was working he didnāt feel like changing his playstyle
Until he rolled bad finnaly and got a reality check
Fireš„š„š„š„
One of my favorite dnd interactions of all time
Wait ,fiAAAA! š„š„šµšæššæš³šæāāļø
it is
on D&D beyond character sheet it asks about subclass , what is that about on the character sheet
When you reach lvl 3
You can chose a subclass that defines your character build more
When you reach certain levels in a class you select a subclass for that class, specializing into something that the base Class doesn't offer
Did you read the free Basic Rules yet? Each class' table shows when you can choose a sub-class (think specialty).
I need to purchase the beginner set thanks
The basic rules are free online

@stiff grove good luck and have fun
Hello! Just wondering if theres other discords to look for campaings, as i have very limited time windows
Just to be able to have a bigger pool to increase the chances of finding one
#looking-for-community is other D&D servers/communities that may have D&D games you can join on a more irregular schedule.
Ty!
Also check out #find-a-game - it has other useful info and explains how to use our LFG channels.
Noted
Someone talk to me about multi-classing. I know itās a thing, but is it widely used, spoken about, or condemned/frowned upon? This is basically the biggest hang-up Iāve had in creating my first ever character and playing my first ever game. Would really appreciate thoughts and insight for a D&D naive
Multi-classing is not really a good newcomer topic. I'd suggest asking in #character-discussion.
Hello
Welcome, how much of a newcomer are you?
I don't know anything

So you've read the free basic rules? Any questions?
Have you tried your hand at creating a character?
If you're ready to find a group to join and start playing D&D, read #find-a-game and start scanning the posts in #looking-for-players
I've made a character and I don't have any questions so far might have some later and okay
Thank you
You're welcome! I hope you find a good group to play D&D with!

Welcome!
So, how new are you to DND?
Ive got a few local games, but never finished any of them, around 2 or 3 sessions for each campaign and a couple of one shots. I am Very new to Discord DnD tho
Well, each channel should be fairly self-explanatory with its description
currenly exploring all of it! thank you!
At itās core, itās a tabletop roleplaying game. Basically, structured storytelling with friends
So, DND is a TTRPG.
My best explanation is you and a group of friends getting together to tell a story, and the rules are in service of consistency for the story.
How do I play
Start by reading the (free) basic rules, linked in the pinned messages for this channel
The rules being stuff like how much damage weapons do and how much HP monsters have
saying who gets what, when they get stuff, how much stuff they can do per day, and so on
such as casters not being able to constantly throw super powerful spells 24/7.

I only just loaded up the demo and started as a fighter
Thereās so much to keep track of immediately
I donāt even know what dexterity is and it looks important
You'll have a character sheet for recorded info once you eventually begin getting into a game
I donāt wanna get made fun of if I start playing and draw blanks
Maybe read the basic rules then, theyāll explain stuff more in depth
We all started with some level of lack of foreknowledge, it's fine
Is there a more simple way to play?
The six ability scores that detail a creature's general aptitudes are as follows
Strength, self explanatory
Dexterity - a measure of reflex and agility, such as one's ability to aim a ranged weapon or keep their balance
Constitution - how tough you are, how well you endure most cold or poison effects, and gives you more HP
Intelligence - general mental acuity, reasoning, ability to recall. Figuring out which beam in a cave is load-bearing or remembering lore on something arcane, historical, religious, etc, is Intelligence derived.
Wisdom - your senses and attunement to the world. Governs perception, insight, and your ability to resist most effects that assail your mind, such as effects that charm or frighten.
Charisma - your force of personality so to speak. Governs the conversation skills, persuasion, deception, intimidation, performance, as well as your ability to resist being possessed, or teleported against your will.
The demo is also a simplified version of level 1 play, IIRC.
In a proper game, there's going to be an actual person as the DM able to help account for things, as well as other players being able to do things instead of everything being on you.

All the channels look really quiet
Itās common courtesy to read the rules before joining a game, however
They arenāt
You could have a look in #looking-for-players
I donāt see any that are having games right now
I donāt wanna have to schedule anything because I have school
You generally canāt find drop in games like that. You could look in #looking-for-community for āwestmarchā games however, which are pretty much that
Oh
Games generally need their organization due to rules and potential different approaches, as well as the stories therein and weaving a new character into it
this doesnāt seem fun anymore
it's plenty fun
I'm in like 3 games, running one of those
one of my friends is in like, 8 games
It looks like a lot of work to just get into one though
it takes some getting used to
Once you get to grips with how things flow, things eventually just click and you get it
Itās not a pick up and play style thing
It requires some learning and organisation
I already am beginning to fail my classes, I donāt think Iāll be able to learn this game
I already forget things as they happen right in front of me
I would probably turn into that Murder hobo thing I see on Reddit video playlists
just take it a step at a time if ye really want to. It gets complicated but once you learn it bit by bit. helps to practice it with someone so the knowledge is retained. though of course its dependent on priority. if you need to focus on classes then do so
how do i find a game ive neve played before :p
Iāve been wondering the same thing

Hi
What's homebrew?
Non-official content, such as making a new subclass
Oh neat!
Think community mods lol
So what your saying is vampire can be a subclass of warlock. Just kidding
like people adding scarier monsters into the caves of minecraft
well actually, the Undead patron is in VRGTR
so you can have a vampire as your patron yeah
In Warlock's case, a homebrew subclass might be making a subclass for a Dragon patron
Hey Iām a new dm and Iām struggling how to find a way to give my players magical items while keeping things fun and balanced
And I also am struggling with cr and how they correlate with player levels
a CR X creature should be a decent encounter for a party of four level X characters.
Of course, the encounter calculation tools have their formula stuff. #dm-discussion will be able to help you more
Thank you!
Just that it wouldn't be a boss fight necessarily
I recommend using encounter calculators and always err on the side of caution
it's easier to add more difficulty than it is to... undo a TPK
Iām brand spanking new to DND and creating a character. Have a meet up on my calendar, too, eeek!

Hi, how can i play dnd?
read up 5 messages
I just watched a video on dnd and it's the mist me thing ever so I search this disc up. Idk how to play cuz I do not understand. I know a dm is a dungeon master and player is player
have a look athe basic rules linked in the pinned messages for this channel
It represents your character's abilities or stats
Like is there a cap on how much points you can put on on categories
the basic rules explain how to determine your stats
There is a CAP at 20 for eeach stat though
?tag new abilities
Abilities
Six abilities provide a quick description of every creature's physical and mental characteristics: Strength, Dexterity, Constitution, Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma.
For each ability, your character has an ability score, a number from 1 to 20. There are three ways to determine ability scores, and your DM will let you know which to use. (If you donāt have a DM yet, choose Standard Array or Point Buy.)
- Roll the Dice. Roll 4d6 and record the total of the highest three. Do this six times, and then assign each total to a different ability.
- Standard Array. Assign each of the following numbers to a different ability: 15, 14, 13, 12, 10, 8.
- Point Buy. Choose your own ability scores by spending points.
After assigning your ability scores, determine your ability modifiers, a number from -5 to +5, using the Ability Scores and Modifiers table.
psst you can go past 20 for you ability scores if you happen to gain items or potions to use to go past the limit. some items give you: (as a example) 25 strength
some points give you ex: 21 strength
Barbs also let you go up to 24 in STR and COn at level 20
its all a matter of how you wanna go about it and if your Dungeon Master permits it in their campaign
Hey, Iām new to this, whatās the best way to play dungeons and dragons with an ai for free? Is chat gpt the best or something else?
you might be waiting around for a answer to this for quite some time... not many people decide to use ai to play DND
yeah
you need more than two "people", and an ai isnt the best at being creative anyway
or knowing how the game works
Ah, well, thanks anyway
Quick question, you know the bonuses on the ability scores? Do those mean when you roll a dice for a attack role it adds to the number you get off the role? For example, I have a 11 strength, and my bonus is 1. Does that mean if I roll a 9 on a Dice for an attack I have 10 instead??
yes
yea
but also depends on if you are proficient with the weapon as well
I am still learning idk what this means
The equation to figuring out your modifier is (X-10)/2
I js really like roleplay
Aii ty this makes more sense
Gotta keep reading, gradually
Without a rules system role play is justā¦going to an improv group?
that sounds like you mean the racial bonus, not the modifier
the modifier for 11 str should be 0
The difference is if my friends find out they will make fun of me
sounds like you need better friends then
agreed
Nvm your right
I'll never survive a day in the gc again
I mean literally who cares, its your life not theirs
But thats a larger issue than can be solved on a dnd discord

@timid ravine
Alr ty
bro waht are these die
4d6?
4 d6s yes
a Dx is an X sided die.
d4 is 4 sided, d6 is 6 sided, etc
think the monopoly cube die for a d6
for its statistical value granting scores often from 9ish to 14ish
4d6 averages 14, but if you're rolling that and then subtracting only the lowest d6, you get nice varied scores, occasionally three rolled high, occasionally they rolled mediocre values
ohh
You donāt subtract the lowest you ignore it
thats kinda com;licated?
https://www.dndbeyond.com/characters/112178965
also is this charected bad or good
i dont remember when i made it
so 4d6kh3 or 4d6dl1 means
four six-sided dice, keep the highest three
or
four six-sided dice, drop the lowest one
the lowest d6 is not added to the value of the 3 higher d6s
what language areu speaking?
English
I'm explaining what the term means
You can roll stats inside of DNDBeyond anyway when making a character
that is wayy to comlcated for my stupid brain
I know but you just said ā4d6 averages 14, but if you're rolling that and then subtracting only the lowest d6ā
any way how was my charecter if u saw it
in either case, you only get the value of 3 d6s added together, as your total
It's an old character of yours presumably, so without their former game, if any, it's best to start anew
i never played beofre i just made a charecter
I'd be happy to walk you through making a character if you come into a direct VC with me
sure
but in a litle while?
idont havve a mic so i will have to use text if thats fine
like in 40 mins?
is that fine?
sure
thanks
dm?
What are you trying to make? make your first PC hereās a playlist on how to make 4 of the classes
sorcerer
however u spell it
holyyy
this game is wayy to big and comlicated
(time toget addicted for 5 motnsh and the forgotabout it for 1 year and then repeat
It's all pretty daunting at first
Give it a week or two, no rush to do it, and you'll know how to do it
Theres a description for each class in the book I believe
Any inquiries more specific are happy to be obliged
How do you actually multi class to sorcerer? I have only read the player's handbook and there's not that much said about multi classing. But what I read is that the sorcerer's abilities can't be learned because it's an inborn power?
Multiclassing is not really a good D&D newcomer question as it's an optional rule and adds a bit of complexity to your character
I'd recommend asking this in #character-discussion
Ok thanks
What is your online DnD platform go-to?
DnDBeyond, Avrae Discord bot, and Discord.
Folks in #third-party-tools-archive may have other suggestions
Hey All, sure you get this question quite a lot - As a beginner to TTRPG's (watched CR / D20 & played BG3) how realistic would it be for me, having never played, to start a group and be the DM? I ask as despite my best efforts, I cannot for the life in me find a group - checked socials, asked friends, asked local shops, the lot. Only solution I can think of is just do it myself.
If you're interested, engaged, decent at reading the rules and figuring things out and making rulings based on the context of the game, you can do fine as a DM.
?newdm
- In Dungeons & Dragons, one person serves as the Dungeon Master, the gameās lead storyteller and referee. The DM runs the adventure for the players, who navigate its hazards and decide which paths to explore.
- Learn how to be a Dungeon Master with this YouTube video or D&D Beyond article.
- The Basic Rules are available at no cost and cover everything you need to know to play.
- Decide what kind of campaign you want to run. Hereās a few good options for new DMs.
- Get advice from your fellow Dungeon Masters in #dm-discussion and #dm-world-building.
I do recommend starting with a prewritten adventure as that takes a lot off your plate (e.g. figuring out a story) so you can focus on running the game.
Yeah, I read something about Lost Mines?
Yeah Lost Mines of Phandelvar was a good starting adventure. Or you can try the Stormwreck Isles adventure that comes with teh D&D Starter set.
Also feel free to check in with other DMs in #dm-discussion for further suggestions and advice or just get a gut check on something you're thinking about.

Hey I really want to get into dnd but theres just noone i know thats interested in it is there anyone who is willing to teach me how to play dnd???
Read the free Basic Rules (at least the first four chapters on character creation).
I highly recommend you check out Critical Role's "Handbooker Helper" video tutorial series on Youtube.
Both are linked above.
Anything you are stuck with?
I just dont get how some things work and the best way to learn is by playing right?
50/50 having a basic understanding of the basic rules helps
What bits donāt you get
From the materials linked above, which parts didnt make sense
And the youtube videos
I get the basics but i have never played dnd before its all just a little foggy for me
Then go find a game that welcomes newcomers and enjoy the world of dnd
I suggest checking out a live stream and seeing it in action to get the flow
#find-a-game has details for find games here
hi everyone
ok if im a paladin sorcer what is my best stats to have
Charisma
Charisma is a pretty reliable stat for that combination, as well as Strength.
you also need some STR and CON
im really new to dnd , is there a way of playing the game online?
what is dexertery?
ty for the link
Dexterity is an attribute that governs your character's nimbleness. For example, a thief or an archer would benefit greatly from high Dexterity.
ok so im stats of a paladin summoner charisma and stregnth right?
Those should likely be your highest, yes. As Omegon mentioned, Constitution is also an important attribute for you, after those two.
what level sould i start
Lvl 1 and you need to find a DM
Whatever level your DM says.
That would be up to your DM! Some games start at higher levels like 3 or 5, but the majority start at level 1.
some spells i should chosee?
What class are you?
a paladin and a cleric
I recommend you stick with one class first to understand it before you do multiclassing, especially two spellcasting classes.
Didnāt you just say you were a paladin sorcerer??
You can't multiclass at level 1 anyway.
im a sorcer and i want help i n makinfg a charecteer
what are you stuck at?
just
are you building it on D&D beyond or a pdf character sheet/paper sheet?
how to mAKE
qwat shiould i juse
yeah sorcer
but i should chosee 1 classes or 2 class?
1 class and idea go have a re read of the basic rules
have you read the basic rules? D&D beyond gives you access to things in the Basic rules and you can click your way through the online builder. a PDF or paper you would have to write everything in - slightly less guided
It's usually recommended to stick to just one class as a new player. Multiclassing can be fun, but it's very complicated, and can often end up making your build weaker if you're unfamiliar with the rules. Not to mention: not every DM allows multiclassing to begin with, as it's an optional rule.
ok so i go only as paladi
i kinda hv ye
take a look at this link - it's the builder on DDB. https://www.dndbeyond.com/characters/builder
ok
with the "standard" option you can click the box beside "Beginner" to give you more guidance
as you click through and read that process, please let us know if you have clarifying questions
thanks
