I love your pfp, is it ai?
Always good to ask.
oh thanks, it's like an oc of mine. I used to have like a terrible pixel art version of it before some dude said my art kinda sucks and redrew it for me lmao, thats how I got this pfp.
Lol can I see the old one?
Maybe I’ll make a bard style one
cant upload the pictures here and I don't wanna post it on #dnd-arts-and-crafts for the others to see
besides it prolly lost in time lmao
Dm me
Fair
Can you send your current one? Running it through ai could be fun
🤦♂️ sorry for my dense-ness
Technically it’s just a remastered version of their art
And I asked instead of going to a website
And just yoinking it
If it is not publicly available in the web, you would be inserting this artist style into the AI database, which could lead to the AI learning some from this artist style -> making it easier for the specific artist to be replaced
I guess
But I thought it was ai to begin with because it just gave me that vibe
Just make my own ai
Run it through that
Easy
You could also hire the artist too, easy
Let’s get things back on topic, please.
Easy
what do yall use to make a map for a campaign.. preferably free
Battle maps or world maps?
world maps
There's a lot of options out there, Azgaar's Fantasy Map Generator, Donjon has a world map generator, you can create your own on Inkarnate, draw something.
For my last campaign, I found a section of Earth I liked the look of, took a screenshot, imported that into GNU Image Manipulation Program, then traced an outline of the coast and filled that in.
Ok cool thank you I’ll look into them
hey, just had my first game, what is a blood witch? my dm said that my character (a 15-17 year old hobbit (wizard)) would become one later in the game
also, in the scholars pack, i have sand, how can that be useful?
blood witch is not in any official content so you have to ask your DM about that.
ok, thank you!
uh with mage hand, i know it has a weight limit, but can i pick up multiple things at a time? like a group of peoples hats or pencils from peoples tables?
i remeber there was a dragon that lived inside of a star but i dont remember how its called.
does anyone remember?
The spell implies single item, only mentioning singular objects, but I would check with the DM as I personally would allow a mage hand to pick up anything that could reasonably be picked up with just one hand, like a few pens or hats 😛
ok! thanks 🙂
hey im new to dnd and i need help wih everything any help people can give ive tried almost everything and just cant figure i out
have you read the basic rules?
yes i think its them haha
so anything specific you need help with? kinda impossible to reexplain all the rules
like character building i just how to start basicly
to build a character you need the following things
- race
- class
- stats (rolled, point buy or standard array are in the rules, if you dont have a DM yet, I suggest using point buy or standard array as dice are ususally rolled in front of the DM)
- background
- starting equipment
- selecting or preparing spells if you are a spellcaster
yes i see but where do i get that stuff?
ok
https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLQMqiULo_05P90SzHdyyVIcz4TGZApQ5L or first few videos in this play list
im really dumb im still confused thanks for the help tho
can anyone call me and help me through it im so confused
Do you have an idea for a character in your head something you would like to play as? Don’t worry about class get a concept first
yes i do
Any details?
ayo
is there any server that's active other than this one?
or anything (like online forums or something).. really, i wanted to try D&D so bad but i don't know where to search for one
#looking-for-players seems always have full players already and i can't keep up with the game timezone, so any suggestion for me?
is someone able to guide me to make a character please
there should be a lot of dnd servers in #looking-for-community
otherwise, check out /lfg on reddit and roll20.net
does anyone know how i should get started with online dnd? i really wanna get into it but i don't know anyone that plays dnd irl and i really wanna learn it from some online newcomer friendly group.
is someone able to guide me to make a character please
What you struggling with?
what kind of character ya making?
oof
In addition to this server, you can check various Discords (many D&D YouTubers have public ones with channels to find players/games, for example), MeetUp, Facebook, forums (D&DBeyond, Demiplane, Roll20, Fantasy Grounds, EN World, RPG Geek), Reddit (r/LFG, r/roll20LFG, r/DnDLFG, r/LFG_Europe), StartPlaying, and Warhorn.
If you’re interested in play by post (asynchronous text-based play), check out Role Gate, RPGCrossing, Gamers Plane, and Reddit’s r/pbp.

i dont know what to do
Have you got the dndbeyond app
honestly look over the classes first see what they do to see what shines your intrest
Are you asking about how to play D&D online or how to find a group?
Do you have a character concept you’d like to play
aaa and where do I do that
dnd beyond explains all the classes in full and the starter book explains all of the base stuff
both i suppose
Here's a primer on how to play online: https://www.dndbeyond.com/posts/750-new-players-guide-how-to-play-d-d-online
Here's a brief article on how to find a group: https://www.dndbeyond.com/posts/711-how-to-find-a-dungeons-dragons-group-to-play-with
We also have channels here for finding others to play with (see #find-a-game), and my comment here (#dnd-newcomers message) gives you plenty of other options for finding groups/games.
that's a very detailed information and i love it

Is there a campaign where you’re the bad guy and you have a week or something to gain intel and prepare for the next wave of adventurers coming to defeat you? Maybe like a horde mode where harder and harder adventurers come after you?
I don't think there's an official campaign for that but someone definitely has made a homebrew about that idea before
D&D is typically about a group of heroes against a BBEG, not the other way around.
As Dasher said, you can homebrew that if you want but that probably is a tad difficult to balance.
That makes sense. I bet that would be tough to balance but it could be fun or really boring
The action economy would favour the party.
Brand new to DnD and I'm running my first game ever as a DM. I bought the Monster Manual physical book. Is there any advantage to buying it on DnD Beyond also? I have built out my encounters are they not going to work without the digital copy.
You'll be just fine I've always had the physical books just bookmark your pages
I'm brand new to dnd, any advice on how to start and find any campaigns?

Is there any rules against one handing a great sword or great axe
Is it not allowed or is it allowed but there's a catch ?
But reckless attack metagates that right cus advantage +disadvantage cancel each other out meaning its just a normal roll now
Is there a race with four arms ?
Thri-kreen, but their secondary arms are limited.
Searching a digital copy is easier, plus you don't have to lug it elsewhere if you play in person. But there's nothing stopping you from using the physical copy. It's mainly a matter of preference.
Scimitar has the light property
So ill reflavor it as he's welding a scimitar on the left hand and a great Axe or maul on the right hand
Doesn't change the mechanics just reflavouring
it says i have to use two hands not all my hands ill have four arms dude
I just wanna duel weild two great weapons
Forget the extra or maybe use custom linkage
Liniage*nvm i cant spell it
But this as close as it gets ig
Oh my bad
The what ...oh just wanna be a cool half orc who weilds a giant dane axe and a black razor sword on the other hand to look cool

Ok so is there a website or something that I can read to start leathering the ropes before I join a group
This is where you'll find the Basic Rules: https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/basic-rules
Well the concept is you play as anybody any wild character u wanna create and the dm describes the world and npcs and you can do whatever u want to do sometimes u do it sometimes u roll for it and depending on the roll the DM decides the outcome and aslong as your a high enough level you can do anything
You can be whinnie the poo and be a wizard at the same time or master oog way or indiana jhons or jackie chan
Rule of cool so really anything can happen if the dm allows it and its within the reach of the pcs level
How so
Who's goanna stop who from allowing whatever anybody wants to do in the game its our freedom after all
Its not like anybody is gonna pop out and punch me for letting it slide
I support anorchy
There's ways to stop them
Oh i thought u already did the a off thingy
My bad
Wait so the a off thingy isn't permanent i have to manually do it everytime ?
Or am i dumb and i don't know how to do it properly sorry if I'm annoying u
If the dm says they cant its ok but if the rules said he can do blah blah and the dm still said no then id also consider that as a red flag
Rule of cool is a formality, if you abuse it, you lose the privilage to have it
You do have a point
that's how typically most DMs view that "rule"
Obviously if the pc is gonna do something out of pocket id say no
Learn the rules of the game before you abuse it...
Like actually all the rules ?cus id have a hard time imagining someone understanding 100+pages of rules and stuff don't u think ?
you remind me honestly greatly of a player i had before, he wanted to do all this insane stuff and was disspointed that i wasn't interested in some absurd game where he's a god, i ended up removing him from my game after my patience for his antics was no longer there
the moral of the lesson is: don't try to abuse the rules against a DM, you will not win
Im not a player yet im still a dm cus-
You don't need to memorize all the rules. The books are there to be referenced. If you're a player, the DM will help you out. If you're a DM, you have the books and make up a ruling until you can look it up.
Your right
DMs don't know all the rules, and i'd be hesitant to trust someone who claims they do, they know enough to run the game, but not all of em
Off topic but is there any read out loud tools in dnd books for dyslexic ppl by any chance anyone could recommend it to me in dms
I've been playing/DMing D&D for 40+ years and I don't know all the rules. I pause the game to look up a rule or just make a judgement call until I can look it up and tell my players the proper rule afterwards.
I highly recommend you check out Critical Role's "Handbook Helper" video tutorial series on Youtube.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hD-LWHhiseE&list=PL1tiwbzkOjQyr6-gqJ8r29j_rJkR49uDN&index=1
Ye some dms let some rules slide for years cus they didn't know
The people who wrote the rule book themselves still look up from the book cus they also cant remember
but there's a difference in expectations from "yes i'm lenient on rules and go by judgement" to "lol, who cares! you can do that"
a typical player expects some basic DND ruleset
Ye im first one
yes they might be different from DM to DM but they are consistent with core functions of the game
👩🏫
Hello, everyone! I'm back to playing after perhaps close to ten years. Last I played fully was 2.5. I'm sure it's come a long way. I'm an OG gamer though currently getting my Bachelor's in Elementary Education. Being from Georgia and a networker, I connect a lot with efforts of folks that use Role-playing games for children and social skill-building/therapy. I'm back at a rotating campaign with a Aarakocra Bard, level 3 and reacclimating at a local meadery to leaern how to play again. The folks I play with allow for rotating characters and I hope to attend as much as I can on Sundays and having fun so far!
A Teacher/on-call nanny that specailizes in the Pedagogy of Teaching through Play, ready to roll with the crowds and play the game again! Cheers!
👩🏫
like i think of myself as a person who enjoys a quote "Diet D&D" which doesn't get hung up on heavy duty rulings
they still function like DND as anyone else runs, but i have certain handwaves in place that help speed up the game to be faster imo
like not caring about Material components (still have to have the gold to pay), ammo count (unless it's specialty ammo)
Idk who's dming him im just sharing a concept that exists in most tables the way someone interprets what i said is not my control he can do whatever he wants as i said if the dm says he can do it he does it if the dm says u roll for it u roll for it and ofc if the dm says no and he has his reasons then he doesn't do it
Im sorry for this misunderstanding
this is a "this is RAW only" sorta channel iirc
Whats iirc
basically giving new people absolutely true information without any bias or opinions in it
Newbie question here - does anyone know where on this Discord (or elsewhere) to find groups for playing in person? The Looking-for-Players and Looking-for-Community channels seem to be only for playing online, which doesn't interest me. I do play at my local game shop but that's only once a week and really chaotic (group is 12+ people with new players every week), I'd love to find something smaller and more stable in my area but no idea how to find players.
You can use those channels for in-person games, but I get the impression that most folks advertise IRL games through IRL venues (such as the game shop you mention).
You may have better luck with local Facebook groups, subreddits, and/or events organized through the likes of MeetUp. There's also no shortage of other sites to search through (see #dnd-newcomers message).
Any tips on where to start with actually finding things on Facebook or Reddit? I've tried searching those but not really sure where to start. I'm pretty familiar with MeetUp (from finding kids events) but there's never been anything gaming related in my area
Depending on where you are in the world, that could be easy or difficult. If you're in the US, that makes things much easier. If you have any major cities nearby, I'd see if there are Facebook groups for that area generally and/or D&D groups for that general vicinity.
Comic book shops, game stores, even book stores that sell D&D books might be options to find a group as well.
Libraries too.
Ooh library is a good idea, never thought about that. That might be an option to advertise starting something up too
What happens if i cast mending on a war forged its a construct so does it get healed how do u heal a construct in dnd
No. Mending heals objects. Warforged is a creature
Unless the construct has any special rules (Im like 90% sure there was at least one creature that CAN be healed with mending) then they are healed by any healing spells and such that would heal other creatures as normal
Healing spells normaly indicate if they work on constructs
Oh shoot you're right, forgot to look at things from the spells' perspective 😮
Is there a spell that heals but does damage when its done on an undead or construct ?
Might be autognome
Oh yeah that was it!
The only healing spell that causes damage is wither and bloom
Could someone help me, looking for the bot so that i can post something in the "looking for dm" chat
Head to #find-a-game. There you get all the info you need to make a looking for post in our lfg channels
thx
Whats an auto gnome
Clockwork robotic gnome.
Well, what was it before?
Ask, I wanna see what happens.
I do rather agree with this. I feel, with any sympstom, there should be a basis of ''basica common knowledge and knowledge of rules'' before they are introduced to ''house rules'' and the such. This way, they have a rough idea of what is expected of them in games and perahps will help wth future blanketing questions and exchange information faster. That these rules should come an experienced/more seasoned player and it should always be explained ''hey, these are house rules to make things a bit more simple. Keep in mind this may not be reflected in other games under other GMS and most folks may not understand when you convervse about it as you network'' (and networking comes a lot easier than ever these days, and newer players may look more to a more experienced player for the learning/insigh that they know personally/connected to, rather than just go to the webiste and look at the rules as an entirity or the books even.
IIRC correctly it’s because one of the rules for the accessibility they promote on this server is that your name needs to be a readable script, not another alphabet or symbols, basically.
Ik but i had already changed my name also haha
That would explain why the person with hearts in their name had their name changed to Kobold Warlock.

^ stuff to help get you started. If you have a specific question, go ahead and ask here.
But overly broad, "can you teach me the rules?" kind of questions won't get much response - many of us are busy and don't have time/bandwidth to teach someone D&D one on one.
ok thanks
We're glad you'e here and hope you enjoy this game as much as we do

Anyone trying to dm new players
Many groups are fine with new players as long as the new player genuinely attempts to learn the rules and fits in with the social dynamics of the group.
I have a question about the looking for players/dm ads, if I want to request to join a session do I message the person who posted it or do I respond to the thread?
its kinda frustrating not being able to find a group that does campaigns
I just made my first character and I kinda know the rules I scrolled through some of the lfg things but did not find any that really want new players of my age so if anyone is willing to dm me😏
Please use the looking-for channels to find a game/campaign here. Also maybe try other servers and resources like local game/comic shops, bookstores that sell D&D books, libraries, colleges, etc.
Ok
Hope you find a great group to play with!
heh that'll take a bit
I don’t really have any shops near me but imma look on like tt or twitter or sum
Yeah - it's the ol' connecting with folks and finding out if you vibe well enough together.
But remember, no D&D is better than bad D&D.
I’ve tried to do some online because I can’t irl they all cost money and I don’t really want to pay is there any free ones
Oh for sure! No need to pay to play games with friends unless you want to.
Yea I want to but a lot of my friends think dnd is weird so yea
You may also want to check out the #looking-for-community - these often are servers with lots of players and DMs. Many tend to play a style called "Westmarches" where there is no set party or DM - instead a group of players get together, find an available DM, DM runs a sandboxy-like session. Many are often living worlds where what one party does may impact others in the world.
Those servers typically run 24/7 with folks from all over the world
ahhh okay
hey 🙂 I'm new here and new to D&D, currently playing the Dragons of Stormwreck Isle Starter adventure with my wife.
Hello, I’m new to this server and to dnd in general! I’m hoping to find people to play with!
You and her in a campaign run by a DM? Or you or her DMing a game for the other?
Same here :,D
Could do, depends on where both of us are situated
i want to learn how to play dnd with my 2 other friend but we are dont know about the game at all
and english is not my mother language so sorry for mistakes. :,)
can i come?

You don't have to read the whole thing to make a character
I wish you luck.
i've already made a character
and i've dipped my toe into a quick game a few days ago. it lasted like 12 hours, was speedy for sure.
12 hours is longer than average for a sesssion

well, to be fair, 2 of those hours was setup because half of us didnt have characters to play, and we often stopped because some like myself had questions because it was our very first time ever playing.
I'd say an average session of a ttrgp is like 3-6 hrs
ttrgp?
Table Top Role Playing Game
the actual playing probably was more like 8 ish hours
I'm friend of @brave hill
rgp
yeah, but computer rpgs also exist now, so the distinction matters
Desktop RPGs.
But also, the term "role playing game" was invented to describe what D&D is
D&D is the og rpg
Every rpg of every sort owes its existence to D&D
dnd was made in 1974?
Yes.
jesus i am late
It's fine, the most recent version was made in 2014
Not a ton of people play the 1974 version
wololo
no idea what that means

So, am I able to take my character through different unrelated campaigns one at a time, or do i have to have a new character every time i join an unrelated campaign?
i assume i cant use the same character in more than 1 campaign running at the exact same time
You can do what you like, but it can get tricky to keep multiple versions and histories of the same character straight.
They inevitably diverge and grow in different ways. Becoming very different by the experiences they go through. I would at least have different names
Is my character allowed to develop overtime with each campaign they experience?
I see
You could potentially play the same character over and over, but you'd be starting them at the beginning over and over
help i broke it
so if my character is in a campaign, and lets say he learns how to do a spell from a book in this campaign, then that campaign ends with him still alive, I can't bring his knowledge of that spell into his next campaign that is unrelated?
Get a bandaid and seek medical attention
That is more like adventure league play, or WestMarches.
you'd really have to talk to the DM of the second campaign
This channel is not for discord technical support. We ask people stay on topic please
i cant get out
Just turn your device off, then turn it back on
im probably not nearly experienced or skilled to do something like joining that.
oop, sorry for the ping
Adventurers League is set up for beginners
The D&D Adventurers League is an ongoing official campaign for Dungeons & Dragons. It uses the fifth edition Dungeons & Dragons rules, and features the Forgotten Realms setting. You can play D&D Adventurers League games literally anywhere. Players use the fifth edition rules to create a character and bring that character to games anywhere D&D Adventurers League play is happening.

OK I'll just delete and copy and paste
what does v,s and m mean in conponents?
Need help with something
Is there something I need to change in settings on dnd beyond?
A lot of people I send my character sheet link to say they can't read the description or notes
You sending the character app link or the character sheet PDF?
App link
I tried a PDF but apparently someone said it's a blank sheet as well
Certain sections are black because I haven't written anything for them, but they said it's a blank sheet
Well if you’ve not written anything it’s going to be blank
Can you see notes on that link ?
No I mean they said the character sheet is blank
Anyway I can't click on notes or description
Maybe you can only see those bits in a campaign you join
Could make sense
I don't understand why it's open to public expect for the notes and stuff though
Quick question, Hengeyokai are as essentially as numerous as the species of animals? As in there are even Bear Hengeyokai?
That's not a newcomer question
That's probably a #dnd-lore or #dnd-elder-editions question, depending on what edition and why you're asking
could anyone give me a short explanation what the differences between homebrew and "normal" dnd campaigns are?
A homebrew campaign is one where the DM makes up the world, the adventures, the NPCs (non-player characters, the other people in the world)
This is an alternative to running pre-published adventures, those made by either Wizards of the Coast such as Lost Mine of Phandelver or Dragon of Icespire Peak, or made by third parties
ah, alright, i get it now.. so homebrew, in most cases, is probably more work to put together, right?
Depends, some DMs don't feel the need to prep much and are more improvisational. This can make homebrew campaigns less work than pre-written ones where they have to read ahead in order to know what's coming

Question: there is a creature that can see in heavy obscurity area, giving the fact that creature is attacking and not hiding, players can attack her back in melee with disadvantage (if i understood correctly).
- can they attack also with ranged attacks or ranged-to-hit spells?
- can they target her with spells that requires sight but not to-hit-rolls?
thanks!
so they players cant see the creature but know it's location because it didnt hide?
in that case:
- yes, unless the spell says "a creature you can see"
- no
yes, they know it was there because it was like a "elbow corridor"
super thanks a lot, we applied things in that way but wanted to be sure
I've been playing online via roll20 for about a year, and have a few friends interested in trying dnd, so I've offered to run a one shot, and have chosen A Most Potent Brew. We'll be playing in person. One thing I'm not sure about is how to manage the combat in the dungeon. Should I print out the brewery map and get tokens for everyone plus the monsters?
I have played some D&D before but not online and curiosity is sparking my interest again, I have made a character on D&D Beyond but I want to know, what is the easiest way to find a group to play?
There are a bunch of dms looking for people to play their campaigns there
Thanks alot, ill give it a check out if im in the mood later / one day
A map isn’t required, but if you want to use one, go for it!
Thanks, that's what I've gathered. I think it would be helpful for the new players
Another couple questions, 1st what is the average length of a d&d match, 2nd do i need to use anything else other than d&d beyond?
hey hru ppl? is there a channel to lf other players to play with?
Yep! Head over to #find-a-game for more info.
An average session lasts between 2-4 hours. Games can be as short as one or two sessions (which we call a one shot), or last for years.
D&D Beyond provides everything you’d need to play, but it isn’t required, and there’s a lot of other useful tools out there, too. Ultimately, which tools your group uses is up to your group.
This article lists some of the more popular digital options:
https://www.dndbeyond.com/posts/750-new-players-guide-how-to-play-d-d-online
yeah, i was lured towards d&d beyond because of how simple the character creator was, i was always interested in a character using both magic and weapons so this sprouted from it https://www.dndbeyond.com/characters/95453970
Welcome to the hobby! Couple comments: you’ll need to equip your items so your AC and other actions calculate appropriately.
Also, what has your DM said about those bomb abilities? They seem incredibly powerful at level one.
1, i have not discussed anything with a dm, 2, explosions are cool and i was a bit confused, can you provide some guidance?
Ah. So those abilities don’t exist in D&D. It’s what is considered “homebrew.” Generally you do not want to do any kind of homebrew on a character you intend to play until after you’ve talked with your DM and they’ve approved the concept.
As it’s written right now that bomb ability is a d12+6, which is stronger than anything else any published option has. If I were your DM I’d reject that outright and ask you to use existing rules and “flavor” your attacks to fit the concept you’re trying to use.
well i do like the concept, mind helping me adjust it a bit so its not as overpowered?
My advice would be to find an existing cantrip or spell that your Paladin has access to and describe it like a bomb. Tho paladins don’t get spellcasting until they’re a higher level.
ah i see, ill try and find something along those lines
yeah when making the character i saw paladins can cast spells at level 2, i just want to get something prepared for that time
Prepare it when you’re at the level you can prepare it at. Right now the easiest way for you to work it in is to describe your Divine Smite like it’s a bomb. It’ll automatically be balanced since it’s a published ability the Paladin has access to at that level. It’s the easiest, it’s balanced, and it still works as an explosion of additional damage.
oh i see, so once i unlock divine smite when i do i then make divine smite similar to the concept of a bomb?
The only thing you’ll change is how you describe it. It’ll still have all the exact same mechanics and rules as divine smite, but instead of saying “and I’ll use divine smite,” you’d say “and he triggers an explosion built in to his weapon at the moment of impact.”
You still get your explosion. The DM doesn’t have to do extra work. Win/Win for everyone.
If you’re new to the game I highly recommend you avoid home brewing new rules and abilities. It’s really easy to break the balance of the game without knowledge of how it’s supposed to work.
yeah, that sounds sensible, ill stick with the sheet i have now WITHOUT the skills i made, that should be good in my opinion
ill keep an eye on that looking for players channel, if i see any one shots ill consider applying
Hey all, I'm very new to DND and just printed out my character sheets. Can anyone help me with them? This all seems a bit overwhelming and I don't want to make them too overpowered or underpowered.
Have you got the basic rules
I have the website up with the basic rules, so yes
You can’t really make an over powered level 1 PC if you stick to point buy or standard array
https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLQMqiULo_05P90SzHdyyVIcz4TGZApQ5L first 6 videos on how to make a PC
Hellooo just want to ask opinions on this:
First my character, Eoghan’s backstory summary for context:
Thor killed Eoghan’s family. Eoghan wishes for the power to get revenge on Thor. Loki wants Eoghan to kill Thor and grants him his wish with the contract that he kills Thor within 200 years. If the time runs out Loki will punish Eoghan.
I would want to have a quirk or gimmick to implement for my character!
After every long rest a d20 is rolled, if it’s above 18, Loki’s evil side will channel through to Eoghan, making his alignment chaotic evil until the next long rest in which he rolls below 18. No one knows about this, not even Eoghan himself, it just happens. (He won’t mess with player characters)
I think it could be a really fun idea! That said, I'd probably casually see if the whole group is good with that. I know you said that your character won't mess with other PCs, but even a change in behaviour could be kind of weird - and has the potential to derail a part of the session.
I think if everyone is thumbs-up, then there's significantly less chance of it going sideways.
Awesome just the sort of criticism I need I was worried it would snowball like that so yes thank you!
Yup! Gotta make sure the party is okay with having a member go crazy every 1/10 days.
It might get bad enough that the question of “why are we adventuring with them?” might even come up.
Oh yes thank you, I’ll be sure to work it out with my DM and make sure the party is okay with it! Just wanted to know if it made enough sense to consider bringing up! Thank you very much
Are Loki and Thor in the campaign??
Oh yeah that’s another question for your DM. What pantheon of gods, if any, are they using?
Back stories are great unless there are no ties to the world youre playing in
I'm someone who wants to start DMing but have no idea how to start.
I know the basics of the rules, but I wanted to know: does D&D have its own actual lore? I notice characters like Bahamut the Platinum Dragon in a lot of things.
and if D&D has its own lore, does it have its own official map or anything, or are these just ideas for DMs to insert into their own campaigns?
Oh yes. Tons of both
Lore goes back to prior editions, novels, stories, sourcebooks, etc
Maps in any official books are canon, but you're welcome to mix and match whatever your imagination wants
There's a whole room for talking about that #dnd-lore. Everything, official or not, can be seen as ideas for DMs to insert into their own campaigns
To be a good DM you'll want a solid understanding of the rules and/or where to find them in a pinch. But otherwise it's about storytelling. Bringing words to life.
Ultimately, every game is a world of its own. You can use as much or as little of the official lore as you want.
Hey guys! brand new to this! was looking to sit in on someones game.. completely muted. will make absolutly no noise whatsoever. Just trying to get a feel for it and if i want to pursue! Thanks!
Is it that possible? 😱
There are tons of podcast / streamed recordings of game sessions all over the place if you can't find someone live.
why didnt i think of that! Thank you!
I got interested in d&d watching / listening to Acquisitions Incorporated
I'm currently watching Critical Role's 3rd campaign, it's nice 😊
Some popular podcasts/streams are The adventure zone, critical role, I been digging dumb dumbs & dragons lately
Where are you watching that @past yoke
Worth mentioning that many streams and podcasts feature professionals - people who have DMed for years, or players who may not have played but are professional improvisors, voice actors, etc. So take what you see with a grain of salt
Hey i have a question if anyone could help? i'm looking for some kind of set of all the dnd class spell cards rather than buying each individual £19 class ones? i feel like spending £70 on just cards as an alternative for flipping through the players handbook is a bit much.
Everything is on their website but this playlist: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL1tiwbzkOjQydg3QOkBLG9OYqWJ0dwlxF
Dungeons and Dragons Spellbook Cards Bundle (8 Items): Cleric, Druid, Bard, Martial Powers & Races, Paladin, Ranger, Arcane, and Xanathar's Guide to Everything Decks (945 Total Cards) https://a.co/d/0EyeJy4
US link sorry but just wanted to show it exists. 945 cards, not overly surprised at the price
hey thanks for this but like i said it's like £100 for something that could be in theory printed on card
Not sure what you mean compared to these, which are printed on card
You'd be free to take all the spells from the SRD and make your own cards?
I bet someone's done that already and has a PDF.
yea i just tried to post a link to the pdf but i'm too new here to post links
Test
i just don't get why they're charing that much for something thats online and downloadable for free
Yeah bot is zealous
i would assume some 3rd party would be printing these off and selling them for a fraction of the cost for much cheaper
High quality card stock, laminated, high detail printing, commissioned/licensed artwork, etc.
if ya want something else, you can dm me or tag me in here 👍
true but someone could just print the text on card with the important details in black and white and i;d be happy
Yup, yup
Just find a PDF and a local printer who will pop it out?
The PDF would have to be based on the SRD, might be missing a couple things but not sure that'd matter
i'm not even sure printer shops exist anymore do they? haha
yea i found one of what i was looking for online but it was missing all the crucial spells like revify
FedEx Office is the big chain now, used to be Kinko's
Having access to the spells on d&d beyond is great too, can pull any of them up right quick with a search.
Probably as fast as I could find a card in a deck
my phone sucks too much for that speed
Thanks, this helps a bunch. I'm excited to take a look at making my own campaign, and super glad I don't have to create a bunch of gods haha
Nope, you can adopt any pantheon you want.
Hello can anyone help me make my character
A friend of mine told me to use DND beyond
........ everything
What have you got so far?
My friend told me to not use a phone to make my character
So I will use my pc but I have to boot up my pc
Have you read the basic rules? Specifically the section on character creation
If you're using D&D Beyond, the character creator works just as well on mobile as PC
Read the first four chapters in the (free) Basic Rules on character creation.

D&D also exists in many languages... Is D&DB or the basic rules only in English?
D&D Beyond is English only (except for the Italian version of the Player's Handbook).
Not sure about the Basic Rules, though.
I think the free basic rules exist only in english. Not sure the companies translating the books have any large interest in translating for free.
well im watching todd talks
can someone help me name a character

Terrence "Slow Hands" Manderley
Hello! If I built my character on DnD beyond and I am going to join a game where the DM wants to roll for characters in their world. Can I change my character to fit that or should I make a new one with the party? I am trying to avoid having to manage too many characters early on for myself.
man the dice is a curse and a blssing
It's a "talk to your DM" thing - I'd show them your character and ask how appropriate they are and what would have to change to use them
Thank you for that feedback!
yeah how do you play dnd?
basically you and some friends sit around a table making up a story. each of you acts as one person on a team, except one person who plays the environment and everyone else in it.
when your character tries to do something risky, you roll dice, and try to get a roll higher than the number it takes to succeed.
thanks
so do i click on the homebrow content
that was a lot of reading
cuz my frind told me to create anything expebt homebrow content
if you can't use it, don't click it
so i dont click it
you might as well save yourself the inconvenience of having to check whether you can use the thing you're reading
okay i will centeno making my cac
i cant add a pic but there are some stuff idk like Magic: The Gathering Content or Eberron Content or Dragonlance Content
own?
i just want to crate my own cac so i can play dnd with my frinds
so i just leave them checked
you might as well, yeah. if you haven't bought it you won't be able to use it either way, but it sounds like you'd be allowed to if you did
man this would be so much easer if someone called me to help me trough
that stuff is from official D&D books, just from books that are set on other worlds besides Faerun which is the default setting for D&D currently
................... guess i will centneo watching homebooker cuz the stuff you said i didnt understand
I'm new to dnd and want to start playing, should I bother making a character now or should I just wait until I manage to find a game? i've read through all of the stuff in ?new
can i use armour and clothes?
like if i have traveler's clothes and leather armour
do i have to wear one or the other?
I’d have a character concept, but wait until you have a game before you make it all the way through. You should know HOW to make a character.
hooray
so like just have a rough idea to speed up making a character when I find a game?
Exactly.
ok thanks
hmmm.... so lets say my cac is strong and a melee type i just keep that in my mind untill a cesstion comes up?
yeah i'm looking through it right now to familiarize myself with it, thanks for the advice I probably will try making a basic character and just not put too much time into the specifics
I’d suggest coming up with a few possible ideas, even.
I am super new to DnD, like never played a single campaign before. Any advice on how to get started without having to read the book? I tried that a few times, but it did not make sense to me, no matter where I started reading it.

i need to pay to costumise my cac
my cac is a human or human varrint and the feats said i need to pay for
i read trough the comments
and is it good?
hmm very...kratos like
what languige should i use
hmm
idk yet
the game is going to start wed
should i wait till then or?
now i have to wait for a replay
untill then i will do the rest of the cac i will leave the backstory and the lore when the game starts is that the right way?
oh
im new and trying to make a character and I wanna give him the grinner bg, do I really have to pay to make a grinner character at all or just to put it into the dnd beyond sheet? sorry if that‘s a confusing question
so i roled at the abblity score now how do i save it
got my stats ready con is not so good tho its only 5
You write it down on your character sheet.
he didnt tell me
he did say he is not restricting that much
i roled cuz of the video
im so so sorry for asking so much questions
i did rolling

That background is from Explorer's Guide to Wildemount.

@fiery cobalt I appreciate it
You’re welcome.
..the short adventure will likely be for level 3 characters, if yours is level one you will need to level it up
thats what he told me
what do i do?
Uh, is it DnDB (or Roll20, etc) or irl?
On dnd beyond thing you can switch you characters lvl and can I join😏
idk thats the dm choice
he said its on foundry
He said he doesn’t know how to do that.
yes
Foundry sheets can handle leveling up (if the classes have been set-up correctly or using an SRD class)
hmm
If you have your character sheet on D&D Beyond, your DM can import the sheet to Foundry.
so i just go to stats in dnd byond and change it
Or you can make the changes and copy it to the character sheet in Foundry.
how
Same difference.
i got foundry and dnd open
What is your character sheet? On D&D Beyond, PDF, or on Foundry?
DND pdf
My suggestion would be to transfer your character sheet to Foundry - you may need the DM to set up the class and class features.
Then you can update/level up your character within Foundry.

ik what chat this goes into but if anyone knows any like really new player friend games please tell me, i cant really find one unless i missed one
Hey guys, i have a group of friends that want to play dnd, I had only played once and everyone else is new I told them I will learn how to be a dm and I will make a short story for them so they can see how it is like. I asked them what characters they want to play and I was going to guide them there the process but they all just told me to make them a character to play. Is this normal to do for the first time I am a little worried about them not being into it if I make all the decisions
okay nice cause i have sum experience but im a mute so idk if people would allow that or not( i have done a one shot and half a Champaign)
Ok I will look into it thanks a lot!
just building off what Dunl has said because its great advice and to offer you some options, the Breath of the Yellow Rose is my go-to for first time modules and a personal favourite of mine. It has a bit of social, exploration and combat so its a great introduction to D&D
Do I get the yellow rose from the same site?
D&D has "adventure modules" which are prewritten stories for DMs to use
Oh that was awesome I might save my story once I get more experience because I was going crazy trying to make one up
Its one of the adventures set in Mulmaster alongside the events of the PotA
cause who's got time to write up Lord of the Rings for their D&D campaign?
I think that's fine. Making a character is really daunting if you don't know the game - you have a lot of decisions to make and don't really have the context to most of them. If they want to just jump in and focus on playing the game for now, and you're okay with making their characters to accommodate that, go for it
The starter set for D&D 5e comes with premade characters exactly so that players can get right in to the game, after all.
Yeah. Everyone knows you write Lord of the Rings a night at a time as bedtime stories to your kid
I was going to meet irl with them and use roll20 to make the maps and stuffs, is there a better way of doing it ?
If you're meeting irl it helps to have the map drawn out to use on the table. Printed out, or drawn on grid paper, or on a dry erase board, or something like that. But not completely necessary.
i've gone to the looking for players channel and i'm not sure i comprehend how it works i understand the time is when the game is for time but i don't understand the different metrics, i.e Lost Mines of Phandelver + Dragon of Icespire Peak, ongoing campaign. Chill, low difficulty, low stakes. i take it those are expansions would that require purchasing different rule books. and do you just dm them and give them your resume basically?
Each group is different - I'd just direct message/post in the thread attached to the game posting saying you're interested. If any further details are needed, they can coordinate that communication with you.
is this the only method for finding games is there any other less intimidating means for new players like a strictly new or would purchasing a dm game be better for a new player.
There are many ways to find a game - but the way to use the #looking-for channels here is to direct message the poster or post in the thread attached to the game posting to let them know you are interested in their game.
Most groups are fine with new players as long as they are willing to read/learn the rules and work well with the overall group.
ty for your time dying in answering my questions appreciate you. so i tried the ctrl f function is there anyway to search by dates for availability or is it just read all posts till you find.
Not here or on Discord generally - just the standard Discord search (which can be frustrating to use). It's pretty much read all the posts.
But as noted there are other servers and websites that also provide game matching.
is roll20 acceptable? i'm not sure which are official and allowed and i read somehting about a foundry i'm not sure what that even means
Yeah - Roll20 is a licensed partner for D&D, provides a VTT service and has game lookups.
FoundryVTT is a virtual tabletop (VTT) but is not officially licensed so they don't sell official D&D books/rules and only offer the SRD (System Reference Document) rules - the free stuff. It does not have game matching - that would need to happen via some other service although the official Foundry Discord server does have a #lfg channel.
No issues mentioning such tools and/or using them.
okay thank you for your time and consideration.
You might also check out Demiplane - a website/web service that has game lookups as well.
thank you. i'll look into it.
on chacater creation on dnd beyond i see the 3 formats dice standard and points and on roll20, looking for group there is a different requirements. i.e standard array only is there one that is more common then others? or which is the most genneraly acceptable.
Which one you should use is up to your DM.
All of them are approved ways although dice rolling is best done with the DM/group watching.
Rolling is the official method, with standard array and point buy as official alternatives.
https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/basic-rules/step-by-step-characters#3DetermineAbilityScores
If you don’t have a DM yet, I’d suggest sticking with standard array or point buy for now.
so how do i post in the looking for a dm for hire?
yeah the chat is disabled for me.
Click on the pinned message at the top right hand corner of that channel.
Heya! I'm planning to run a Wild West Train Heist oneshot, and as a first time DM I'm not sure how to introduce firearms well. I've read the DMG section on it, along with the Matt Mercer Gunslinger class and the Gunpowder Codex.
The thing is, they all make the Revolver do 2d8 piercing damage, which I think is a bit much for level 1 characters. What's the most I can reduce it to without them being useless? Or should I instead just bump up the hp of the enemies?

The Dungeon Master's Guide (DMG) is an official sourcebook containing guidance, special rules, and options for DMs. Learn more: https://dndbeyond.link/discordDMG
Just use hand cross bows
I'm not so sure about crossbows, I don't think they fully fit the theme
you would reflavor them to be guns
you can also reflavor the renaissance guns as more modern ones
Just give them 1d6 - 1d8 damage like the ranged weapons that already exist in the game
Or play Frontier Scum instead of D&D
I think I'm gonna go with this, it should balance things out enough. Thanks!!
Can I play or allowed to be a summoner class from using the creed's codex: arcane secrets of the summoners
that is a question for your DM, not random strangers on the internet, I'm afraid
it was Eberron: Rising from the Last War
it was reprinted in Tasha's with errata and a new subclass
Okay thank you
@ivory sail I’m here now what
Ask somone to explain dnd to u I didn’t do it very well
XD i think you did fine GM
LOL I think the new guy stopped responding to him tho
arguing about what D&D is?
Nooo
No another server people where being toxic
Anyway somone explain dnd to @fringe dawn I did a pretty bad job
XD i Said you did a good job, you stubborn mule
Summon the great wizard then 🧙
According to Wizards of the Coast...
*In Dungeons & Dragons, the players form an adventuring party who explore fantasy worlds together as they embark on epic quests and level up in experience. The Dungeon Master (also known as the DM) is the game's referee and storyteller. There’s no winning or losing in D&D—at least, not in the conventional way.
Dungeons & DragonsAt its heart, D&D is a game that focuses on storytelling. The dice just help you along. Everything is your decision, from what you look like, to how you act, to what happens next.
The collective creativity in your D&D game builds stories that you’ll tell again and again—ranging from the stuff of legend to absurd incidents that’ll make you laugh years later.
Have fun and remember the golden rule—never split the party!*
XD wowe
Gm also known as dm
for reference https://dnd.wizards.com/what-is-dnd
Sooo there is no winning or losing at all? That’s kinda weird
What’s dm stand for?
dungeon master
What happens if you die then?
Ohhh Ty
its not a board game or a video game. It is a story game where you live the lives of characters working towards some kind of goal. The experience and having fun IS winning
If u want to play get a few friends together one of u is gonna have to spend a bit u got to buy players handbook dungeon masters guide and monster manure for the base game and u got to buy dice
I have to many dice
Ahh I see
@fringe dawn see better explanation
LoL
I would probably never play, I have no friends who like that sorta stuff 😭
you can totally fail to accomplish a task you are trying to do, if thats what you mean. That is usually not the end of the story though
What happens then ?
I bassicly told them it’s imagantion dice and paper that’s the best I could do
LOL I still think u did fantastic
There is a channel her where you can find random games if you want to play. You don't need friends per say
So then you play solo?
Sorry new keyboard different size sorry for the typos
you can play solo, but usually not
depends on the situation the DM set up. If you go down in a battle, you might have to roll a new character. If you fail to pick a lock, then you might not get through that particular door
And u don’t have to buy the book or anything if u find people online u just go into a discord call or something
Ohhh so there’s like infinite possibilities that could happen
yes
Oh how much is the book?
Ooo metal dice should I buy them I already have like 15 sets of dice
Then everytime you play do you continue or make a new one up? Or it doesn’t matter?
There 3 bass books adds up to around 80-90$ for me
If you want to see a game live, many groups have YouTube and Twitch videos you can watch to get a feel for the game and there are instructional videos there too
Omg 😭😭 that’s a lot
DANG 😭😭
Continue or make a new one if the camping ended
Ahh sweet Ty :)
some games and characters go on for years, other games are only for a session or two
The Core rules are free online so you can play without any investment if you want
Camping?
Some people have played the same game FOR YEARS??
Like tge story
That takes effort good god
Ohh
Speaking of @arctic cargo making my players fight a young or adult dragon what colour should I do
Omg Ty :0
They are level 10 btw
depends on the environment
i mean it depends on how often you play. If you play weekly and its going on for years then yeah, its a lot, but if you can only get together once per month, it just takes years to simply complete a long adventure
There’s 5 of them
@ivory sail where are they adventuring?
Hmm that makes sense, is there known people in the community who have played that long? Like a ytuber or smth?
At the moment they are in a forest so maybe green dragon
Mwahaha yes the all power green dragon
there ya go
There’s a lot of podcasts YouTube campaign you could watch or listen to to learn the game
or you could mix it up and use a metallic dragon gone bad
Ar green it is
yeah I think I saw some youtubers say their home game lasted for decades. not with the same characters though. The players would run a campaign through the levels, retire the characters and start with new ones. but all the events of the previous characters where still canon in that evolving game world
Or yeah good idea
Ahh okay
Wait where are red dragons mostly?
anywhere, but usually mountains
Ar so either green red or metallic
So like naurto with boruto? Like their kids playing and so on and so on
That’s awesome tho, the dedication to that is crazy
kinda
Knowing my players I wouldn’t have to make the metallic evil they would try to kill it anyway
They brutally killed a goblin asking for mercy for fun not even do they were level 9
So when you play can you change your character whenever you want? Or do you have to die? Or do what the DM says?
@fringe dawn depends if u die u make a new one or if u want you can ask ur dm
its a bit DM dependant. switching your character often because you are bored is generally considered rude though
Ohhh so the DM is Like in Control of almost everything
generally you play one character, hopefully for the duration of the campaign, but sometimes they die and you replace it
@fringe dawn as my players put it dm is god
WHAT 😭😭 omg
Yeah it makes sense now
Like any character you want or do you gotta roll for it?
Any within reason
DMs do have a lot of authority over the game but its important to remember that the game is supposed to be fun, so a DM abusing their authority would quickly lose their players
Any design? Even if it’s completely doff from the original?
Yeah XD
Oh
again, depends on the game the DMing is running, but generally anything you want
I didn’t say it my players did
Ohhh okay
DM are op Fr
Its not necessarily wrong
You can alter characters appearances as Long as the stats don’t change for flavour can somone explain flavour to them?
- DM needs to approve characters. They might reject something made to "break" the normal balance of the game.
- Characters should start weak and grow stronger. no character concept should break that.
Flavor? We get to choose how we taste??
Ohhh so they’re like new Borns starting
As I said somone can explain it better than me
@fringe dawndon't get caught up with the minutia right away. If you are interested, best to focus on the basics and let the rest unfold organically while you are playing.
well not quite that weak. But a level 1 character is much more limited than a level 10 character in their abilities
True it is a lot to take in at once 😭
Nooo ?
Nope just introduced them into it today no rule copy

You roll for abilities too?
I think ??
sometimes yes, sometimes no. Depends on the GM
TYY
Dang everything depends on the dm
Yeah dms run the game
@fringe dawnyou will find there are A LOT of questions we simply cannot answer because it is up to the DM to set up the game. The rules include a lot of option and variety so you can customize the game to fit your own preferences
But yeah dms useless without the players
OHHH shoot, then it really is just infinite possibilities
Yep, that's what makes D&D collaborative
@fringe dawn flavours like how ur swords look or your character looks that doesn’t alter gameplay it’s just for ✨style✨
yes. The DM can choose whatever rules they want to use up to and including all of them or none of them
Ohh I was thinking it was how you taste to your enemy when you die XD
WHAT so they can also choose to ignore the basic rules if everyone agrees?
Whaa
Different opinion on how to but yeah
D&D is a specific rules system, currently in it's fifth edition and found here: https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/basic-rules
I’m very laidback and I’ll let somthing happens if it’s fun and isn’t out of the reason
@fringe dawn theoretically they don't need you to agree with their rules, because they run the game, but it is customary to be collaborative. And if you don't like someone's rules, you just go to a different game with a different DM
What is TTRPG
Tabletop Roleplaying Game
@arctic cargo for ur first time it’s good to follow the rules
I see now that this is absolutely nothing like monopoly
Indeed
No, because that's a board game, which is different in many ways from a roleplaying game
WHAT 😭
the rules are what the DM says they are, so as long as you are following their rules you are following the rules
Dang the dm is a whole dictator 😭
No, they're not
How do you become a DM?
They just have the right to run their game how they wish
Oh I see
If that's not for you, you have the right to find another DM
So what do u do in the situation of a wizard throwing a fireball that kills them becuase of a confined area do I just let it happen?
However, it's beneficial for both players and DMs to communicate and compromise
Meet in the middle where possible
Yes it’s happened in one of my games before
Ohh okay 👌
@fringe dawnexample. You might want to play an elf. The DM could, for some reason, say no elves in their campaign. You can ask for them to reconsider, but at the end of the day, they control their game. You can either chose something else, or chose a different game.
That's up to you and how you want to DM
Dangg
as i said above, DMs do have authority in the game that the other players dont, but as DnD is a social game that people play for fun, they can't really abuse that power without players leaving their game. so that balances the scales.
Its not about tyrannical control. It is about telling a story and the story they tell may require some limitations and parameters. DMs are generally cooperative and welcoming so don't think this is some kind of oppressive environment.
Ahh true
Wouldn’t wanna play if someone was abusing 😭
The dm is not aiming to kill you they are trying to make a fun experience
A successful DM is one that facilitated a fun experience for everyone.
Ohh okay bc I def was thinking just a little bit like that
Ar BRB
Do you guys narrate in deep and high pitch voices btw?
@fringe dawnalso think of it this way. You own your house. I come over and want to smoke in your house. You don't want me to smoke in your house. I have a choice, don't smoke or leave. Its not tyrannical, its reasonable
Yea this is a great example, I was almost thinking all the dms were oppressing the players 😭
@fringe dawn we use different voices for different npcs yes
I do try to change my voice up a bit when I RP different characters or creatures, but not exessively so
Think of them like a fantasy author who has invited you over to experience their next story, only you get to perform the actions of the characters in the story
It’s like an irl movie playing before your eyes :0
It’s like a playable audio book kinda XD
Ahhh sweet
IS that accurate? Not very good at explaining this stuff
It seems so huh
But you gotta use the dice right?
the game/dm will call for dice rolls, yeah
DND relies on dice
Im guessing dm decide what all the dice stands for when you roll it? Like 3 is cast a spell ect?
the dice just perform the function of resolving how successful you are at doing the things you want to do
But some sessions you might not role a single dice
the dice decide over success and failure when you attempt a challenging task, yes
Ohh
Some sessions you might be rolling non-stop
How?!
More role play that session
Ohh
Than fights or vice versa
You might spend the entire session roleplaying and relying on stuff you're so good at it doesn't require a dice roll
In D&D, you generally only roll a dice if there's a chance of success or failure, or a random outcome is needed
I dunno why I thought that everything you did required a dice roll 😭
Hm that makes sense
no. You decide what actions you will attempt to perform, like jump over an obstacle, swing a sword, cast a spell, etc. and the dice determine how successful you are at that task
if its trivial to do, you dont roll. if its impossible to do, you dont roll either
OHHH OMG I GET IT, so the highest is the best right??
Oh
higher results on the dice are better in dnd, yes
yes, generally higher numbers are better
generally yes
Usually you're rolling to beat a specific number
Ohhh Like in Gravity falls
sometimes you roll on tables for random effects then that wouldnt apply
but thats rare
I have no idea, I don't know what that is
its areally good animated show from a few years ago
WHAT 😭😭 it’s a tv show, and Ik one scene they played dnd for their life’s and won, although they cheated with the rolls
Aw dang
So true
That’s prob where I thought you rolled for everything you do
I think that was my first experience w dnd
shows often dont really portrait the rules accurately for sake of brevity and drama
Yeah I realize now, I honestly thought you rolled for everything ☠️☠️
But thank you guys for the help 💕💕
No problem I was probably the most useless out of everyone helping but yeah
Nah you did great :)
Does anyone know any beginner friendly servers?
Also near central european time if possible
Haven’t found any yet
Hello
Do you guys know why I can’t get more races on dnd beyond because I’m trying to make a Locathah monk called Pike Tyson
Lmao pike Tyson
You need to pay for the races separately they are 1.99
Ok thanks
You’ll need to use the website store not the App Store
I have a question
Alright I get on it
Shoot
Is your dnd character a rat? Plus do you know twitch from LoL?
Let's keep things on topic for the channel please
hello everyone!!!i am new to dnd world and i bought 2 days ago the players handbook and i am really excited to start but how do i find someone to play with??
its more convinient for me to play online than in person because i have a little guy at home and i work all day
Welcome! If you head over to #find-a-game, there’s tips on how to find a game to join.
I joined an exististing campaign yesterday. It seemed like a custom generated one. We were in an actual tavern were the players were actually drinking ale.
ngl that sounds like a lot of fun and now I want to do it. Could be great for ambiance in a city game for sure... but I can imagine it helps to be the right tavern. Many players might get distracted by sports screens everywhere lol.
Welcome to the hobby! I hope the session was a strong start. And you had fun 🙂
Hello. I've never played Dungeons & Dragons before but I'd like to give it a try. I live in San Diego, CA. I can do either online or face-to-face. I'm available Friday evenings and weekends. Let me know if you need anymore information.

Okay…I’m new to 5E. Wife and I are going to start learning dnd here shortly with character creations. I used to play Pathfinder Carrion Crown oh so 6ish or more years ago. So I’m rusty.
My question is. Can I take the Pathfinder Carrion Crown Adventure Path and play it as DND 5E. Can I translate most of the rules over or are these completely separate and can’t be mixed?
You can convert it over to 5E but it will take some work since they're two separately different rulesets.
I'm currently running the 3.5E adventure path, Savage Tide, in 5E so that takes a bit of work translating skill DCs since they aren't 1:1.
I’m going to be the GM and just wanted to grab the story and play it in 5E but alright. I’ll play some Radiant Citadel first.
Here's WotC's conversion doc to 5E from past D&D editions:
https://media.wizards.com/2015/downloads/dnd/DnD_Conversions_1.0.pdf
PF1 is close enough to 3.5E.
So I am having my first DND session tonight with 2 people I have: The Players Handbook, Monster Manual, Dungeon Masters Guide, Essentials Kit, Starter Set, around 27 dice and a couple of the young adventurers guide (Dungeons And Tombs, Monsters And Creatures, Beasts And Behemoths and Dragons And Treasures. (I’ve been planning on playing DND for a while now but haven’t found anyone to play with lol) is this good or do I need a little more. My friend is the DM
Three people is enough.
Why do you have the DMG and MM if you're not the DM though?
Thought it would be cool to have the whole collection and thought I needed it lol
You don't need those two books as a player.
It's usually the DM who buys most of the books...
Buy as many books as you want, people like collecting thing
Sure, if you can afford it. That's your choice.
having the MM and DMG can be really helpful for if you need to know weaknesses, actions, hp, and a lot of other things for a campaign. dm or not
No that’s meta gaming big no no
That’s generally not information a player should be researching tho. Meta gaming and whatnot.
You might know about the monsters stats but your PC won’t
PC player character
im dumb okay
Not knowing things isnt Dumb
That's meta knowledge. That's a big no-no. At my table, that's a strike.
well im not at your table 😛
That's good.
While every table is different, I think it makes sense to discourage behaviors that won't be welcome at many tables, metagaming being one of many. Especially for folks new to the hobby.
So can just reading the adventure book
But thats also probs not best
The only thing players should be reading, generally, is the Player's Handbook. The other sources are the DM's purview.
Whatt monsters do you recommend for a party thats literally just beginning (level one, starter equipment from dnd beyond, etc.)?
Might be better in #dm-discussion since it could turn into an involved discussion. 🙂
But as a general advice, pick a single CR1 creature with high HP, and you should be safe.
Cools! Tyty
