I am considering mass buying a bunch of books but i already own the digital content for most of them. i am assuming the physical stuff comes to me and i can send the digital stuff to a friend. is there a way to choose which digital content would go to this friend from a mass purchase before i go through with it. i want to send it all to them except one digital product.

If you do a gift purchase, a gift code for each digital item will be added to your account. You can then send any of those codes to whoever you wish.

I don’t believe there’s any active promo codes at this time. Sales are usually done as a direct discount on the item itself: no code necessary.

I wait for that day that they will implement the 2024 Custom Background option as well. In the meantime, I previously created a homebrewed version of it that was released publicly. It is intended for Adventurers League, but until AL changes rules, it basically just matches the DMG implementation with the major thing missing is that you have to take the gold option for equipment.

If you know of an official race that works in the way you want, you could make a homebrew copy of it to see exactly how it was set up.

But for the Charisma increase, you’ll need to add a Modifier.

• Type: Bonus
• Subtype: Charisma score
• Fixed Value: 1 (or 2 or however much)

As for water breathing, I’d assume the official ones just list that in the text description.

But again, you can make a copy of one to see.

This has probably been reported already but the damage dice for upcasting chromatic orb is bugged. If you cast with a 3rd level spell slot the damage type picker that has you pick the element shows only 3d8 and the roller only roles 3d8. Because the spell is upcast the damage should be 5d8.

That said, it’s true the spell details don’t show the correct scaling for its other damage types. It’s already been reported to the devs.

The 2014 and 2024 versions are functionally separate classes.

So a homebrew subclass created for one won’t work on the other.

In the same way one for a cleric won’t work on a druid.

If you want to use it on the new, you’d have to recreate it for that class.

I just made a 2024 Bard character and added, equipped and attuned to a Rhythm-Maker's Drum +1. While the drum's +1 is correctly applied to spells with attack roll to-hits and saving throw DCs, that +1 does not get applied to Bard abilities that uses the bard's spellcasting DC. :/

And there's no way to override class ability DCs

That's probably because one reading of the RAW would be that it only applies to saves on Bard spells, e.g., it would not apply on Cleric spells if you multiclass and to your question, would not apply on non spells.

Whether they are reading it this way or it is a bug, that I cannot tell you.

I've ensured that the homebrew subclass is for 2014, I even based it on an existing one (Hunter).
I've, I think, done the required waiting for 15 minutes because that's how long I'm told it takes?

And yet, nothing from it appears in the Ranger character when I'm trying to set it up.

It certainly sounds like you've got everything set up correctly.

• The subclass has to be in your My Homebrew Collection.
• You need Homebrew enabled for that character.
• You have to make sure you select the same class for your character.

Since those are all true here, I'd expect it to show up.

Select class to create a subclass for: Ranger (Legacy); create from scratch. Name: RandomName, version 1. ShortDesc, Desc... Created. Done.

Now, when I go back to the character... I do not see that. Granted, it's only been a minute now, so I suppose I need to set the stopclock and wait 15 minutes.

Expectation: I should see RandomName in the Class Features listing. But I don't.

Yep, I've done that. It's doing my head in this 15 minute delay.

I've had to re-add the material component, so that I can delete the material component description, so that I can then remove the material component.

Because that time when I made the spell I based it on Animal Friendship.

I'm not sure how to make the spell roll the dice though.

The delay is usually only for homebrew edits.

Any newly-created homebrew should be immediately available.

Account Entitlements

Account entitlements are how D&D Beyond identifies which content you can access. These are synced automatically in time, but if you're not seeing content you should have access to, visit Account > Licenses.

The Account Entitlements section at the top should ideally say "Your entitlements data is in sync!" If not, it will show a button to manually trigger the sync, after which your content should be available.

Creating homebrew copies of subclasses seems to not be working right now, I'm getting an internal server error. Is anyone else seeing the same? It worked a few mintues ago, so I imagine it's only a problem on a subset of the servers they use to host DnDBeyond.

Edit: It seems to be happening specifically for (2014) Waxwork Rogue and (2014) The Lantern Warlock. It's also still happening for all 2024 subclasses of 2024 Barbarian, but I think that's a known issue for a while now (I'd appreciate it being brought up to the devs again though, I want to create some form of Wild Heart Barbarian that incorporates the SCAG animals).

Not sure if anyone else is having this issue, but trying to create a new Subclass with the 2024 versions results in error 500 (internal server error). 2014 versions seem to work fine. There are even instructions on how to do it in the homebrew forum:

"This Is accomplished by creating two different features at the same level with the exact same name. One of the features only has a description and is designated to “hide in sheet,” the other includes the relevant snippet, a single selectable Option, and is designated to “hide in builder.” Since the feature with the Option is hidden in the builder and only visible on the character sheet, when players click/tap the feature and when the sidebar slides out they can select their Option there to activate the effect, and deselect it when finished. Options attached to subclass features and species traits can have Actions, Spells, and Modifiers just like base features/traits. Unfortunately both features will display on the details page for your subclass."

Question on DNDB's Valdis content. It seems that the DNDB content is only a portion of the actual physical book. If I purchase the DNDB content today, will future classes or subclasses be added to the existing book or will there be a second "book", i.e. Valdis Spire of Secrets part 2 for another $15, available at a future date?

I've some questions about DDB. First, is it possible to write my own campaign on it? I know I can "create" them, but that option seems more for just completely random campaigns that the DM makes everything up on the spot for. I just think that, even if it's not possible yet, you should be able to write a campaign on it instead of having to use another platform or app like word (what I'm currently using for homebrew campaigns and homebrew character sheets).
Second, is it possible to literally customize a character sheet to, for example, add an "Alt-mode" (or anything new) section/stat to it for a Transformers campaign? In my personal opinion, I've tested other apps that claimed you could. They worked but, they weren't to my liking.
Last, is it possible to make encounters directly from the campaign, as in making encounters that dont get sent to your encounter library where they take up slots if you dont have a subscription? Heck, maybe even have the encounter stat blocks be customizable like the character sheets?
I honestly think that if DDB gets updated to add those abilities, if they aren't possible already, to make homebrew campaigns, make campaign exclusive encounters that dont go to your library, and customize character sheets entirely and make new ones that can be campaign exclusive for the players to make their characters, they shouldn't require the subscription. Maybe you can have it so they can do more with that using the subscription but, if you make just the bare essentials and most of what will be used to do so free, then you might just draw in more users, some of which might get the hero or master tier subscriptions, resulting in more money going to a large company.

Set it to roll that 1d6 radiant, check Display As Attack, and set the Activation Type to “Action”.

And then your weapons and that extra d6 will all be accessible in the same area.

I have a lvl 3 Warlock - Tiefling Abyssal. He has Ray of Sickness due to Fiendish Legacy. That spell is under Lvl 1 Spells list and also under lvl 2 Spells - which is perfectly fine.

The problem is that the spells granted by Magic Initiate feat are only on the list of Lvl 1 spells, whereas they should be possible to cast with the Warlock Spell Slots, so they also should be on the list of lvl 2 spells.
Please correct me if I'm wrong

Your issue may be related to either having a 5E 2014 class or if you do have a 5E 2024 class, you may have picked the wrong magic initiate.

Basically, the issue is that 5E2014 Magic Initiate does not allow you to use your spell slots while 2024 does. This is RAW, not just Beyond's implementation.

This sounds like you accidentally picked a 2014 class. Manage your character and check that you selected your class from the core section.

D&D Beyond can be a little flaky hiding 2024 options or 2014 from 2024 characters. It is quite common in here to see people picking the other one accidentally.

When the rules grant a specific spell (like Fiendish Legacy does), the devs are able to add that spell to your sheet twice: once for free use, and once to cast with spell slots. It's the latter one that scales up to display at higher levels.

But in cases where the user chooses like the spell (like Magic Initiate), it isn't currently possible to have that single choice add both. For these, you'll see only the free use. Since the spell slot version isn't included, it won't show at higher levels.

The long rest dice are a known issue as well.

just looking to see if i have found an issue/bug or if this is a know issue. this is about 2024 custom origins. I was hoping to make a 2024 only game, no legacy content. and also thought the point of the custom origin was that you didn't need to make homebrew. my understanding with the 2024 custom origins is that you can just make what you want to better suit your character (if DM approved) and just need to include all the components, ability scores +2 and +1, an origin feat, 2 skill proficiencies, 1 tool proficiency, 1 tool proficiency, and starting equipment. (PHB24 p177)

but when i went to make one, there was no option to include an origin feat in the background section of the character creator, and did not get triggered in any other tab, i also notice that the languages and proficiencies do not come across to the rest of the character sheet

could this be an issue that should be resolved?

Are you talking about custom background? That's a homebrew thing in the DMG in chapter 3

Set it in the Home part of creating a character, select it in "2. Background" to configure. It does ask for which background feature and characteristics you want, but then forgets to do anything with them.

It does look like you can manually add them on the final sheet. It might be an idea to leave yourself a note in the Notes section if you do that.

Last I checked, Beyond still did not support the DMG 2024 rule for Backgrounds.

I actually built a Homebrew Background that implements the DMG 2024 background with the exception that it takes the gold option for equipment, I.e., 50 gold. If you wish to use it, activate Homebrew for the character and search the background called: "2024 DMG Custom for Adventurers League" by authour "Caldree" (that's me!). Once added to your Homebrew, it will appear at the bottom of the backgrounds list in the character creator.

I am having a weird issue with DnD Beyond Maps. Two of my maps are syncing their fogs of war. Even weirder, out of several maps in the campaign, only those two are syncing. What do I mean by syncing? When I reveal or cover an area in a map, the same relative position gets revealed or covered in the other map. This has spoiled some areas of the adventure as players go back and forth between maps and the FoW gets carried over to the other, showing places they haven't explored yet. Does anyone know what might be causing this issue?

You are using a 2024 Warlock and trying to use an invocation not yet updated for the 2024 rules (a "Legacy" invocation). This is allowed by the rules, but Beyond doesn't support it yet. I recommend a homebrew feat that copies the text. Alternatively, if you meant to be playing a 2014 Warlock, scroll down on the class page and pick the Warlock under the 2014 Core Rules.

Edit: That said, if you only want it to use with a bow or something, remember that new Pact of the Blade works with any magic weapon including bows, you just can't summon one.

Account entitlements are how D&D Beyond identifies which content you can access. These are synced automatically in time, but if you're not seeing content you should have access to, visit Account > Licenses.

The Account Entitlements section at the top should ideally say "Your entitlements data is in sync!" If not, it will show a button to manually trigger the sync, after which your content should be available.

You need to click “Add a spell” three times, and list each one separately. If you click it once and list them together, it will have the player choose between them.

Keep in mind that homebrew edits can sometimes take up to 15 minutes to appear on your sheet.

Sounds like it’s probably an issue with Content Sharing, though. Doesn’t seem like it’s active for that campaign.

Either because something caused it to become deactivated (like an expired subscription), or because it simply hasn’t been enabled for that campaign.

Hello! I might be asking this in the wrong spot - if so, please let me know which channel is the right one. 😄

I bought the core 3 books (PHB, DMG, MM) and Xanathar's Guide and Tasha's Cauldron so far. I'm a player in a new campaign with some friends. I just turned level 3 as a Gloom Ranger and wanted to use Xanathar's version, but when I leveled up my character in the sheet from 2 to 3 and specified my Gloom Ranger choice for sub-class it automatically added everything for the sub-class to my character sheet (awesome!) but used the PHB version.

Here is where I'm struggling - I can't seem to figure out how to edit my character to change the Dreadful Strike from the PHB version to the Xanathar version. I see no option to change it, or to remove what's there and replace it with what I want. I know I could technically ignore the PHB stuff that was added and just custom add the Xanathar version, but I'd like my character sheet to be nice and clean. 🙂

So, Gloom Stalker was updated in the 2024 rules. Odds are if you have created a 2024 character, it will only support the updated one.

There is a small chance that if you add a 2014 class, it might use the old one but the Xanathar version is considered legacy and may no longer be supported.

Our DM allows us to choose whatever version we prefer amongst the books we own. I think I prefer the Xanathar version so I'll just add the Xanathar dreadful strike info manually and ignore the non-removable PHB stuff.

If you make a homebrew subclass and select the PHB Gloom Stalker as a template, you’ll get an exact copy of it.

Then you can update it however you and your DM see fit.

Hmm. I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong or what. I checked a couple of FAQs on adding a homebrew sub-class and according to what I read I just have to have the sub-class added to My Homebrew Collection and the "Homebew" Source selected, then level my character up to the appropriate level and it should be available as an option under the sub-class option, but that's not happening for me.

Since I was already level 3, after adding the homebrew subclass to my collection I de-leveled the character, saved it, went to "Manage" and when I level him up to 3, the homebrew sub-class isn't an option, only the PHB version:

Note, homebrew options are often at the end of the list.

There might be something else going on. Try creating a 2024 ranger if the current is 2014 or try creating a 2014 if the current is 2024. The creater of the homebrew may have based it on a specific chassis.

Yeah, it seems like it is specifically looking for the Rod from the 2014 PHB, but that can no longer be added to the character sheet. It only lets you add the Rod from the 2024 PHB. Definitely a bug.

Enabling 2014 Core Rules should also solve the Homunculus Servant and Replicate Magic Item issues.

Account Entitlements

Account entitlements are how D&D Beyond identifies which content you can access. These are synced automatically in time, but if you're not seeing content you should have access to, visit Account > Licenses.

The Account Entitlements section at the top should ideally say "Your entitlements data is in sync!" If not, it will show a button to manually trigger the sync, after which your content should be available.

So i just copied a character to remake them for 2024. For some reason Weapon Mastery Greatsword has dissapeared as mastery option for my fighter.

This usually happens for me when I took that Mastery at another level. Fighters get Mastery at a number of levels. Might just be the same.

I can also confirm it is showing for me in my Mastery list, so it doesn't seem to be gone for everyone.

On the flame tongue, that is a labeling issue. Some of the flame tongues existed before and many of those stayed with a legacy label. The description is updated with weapon properties, etc. You just use the legacy one.

So important note - sharing content does not work the same with the Maps tool. The DM only has access to use/show what they personally own, not things that are shared with them.

As far as sharing content in a DnDBeyond campaign, assuming someone in the campaign has an active Master Tier subscription, the DM for the campaign can toggle on content sharing on the campaign and everyone in that campaign can then share their DnDBeyond content.

I'm currently making a homebrewed feat to replicate a feature of a 2014 species to make it be able to select the 2024 version of spells.

It seems like the 2024 version of Blade Ward just won't show up as one of the options that I can add as an options. Would anyone know how I can remedy the situation?

Not sure, but I do remember a push to have 2024 stuff not interfere with people that want 2014, so this might be a response to that set of voices. Perhaps they'll make it an option somehow?! Have you tried building the feat as a 2024 (even though it's a 2014 species?) or the Feat won't even create?

The round about way that I made it work was to make a copy of Blade Ward in the Homebrew maker and that allowed me to select it.

It makes me feel weird but the Geppettin species options on dnd beyond have the Marionette selected at Size and not at the other area where 3 types are chosen. Thus if i want to be a Marionette I have to leave an option unselected with a (!) there.

When selecting a 6th level spell for my divine soul sorcerer (homebrew disabled, all partnered content enabled) I was able to select Burning Radiance from the Book of Ebon Tides sourcebook. I wanted to see if this was from the sorcerer or cleric spell list and couldn't find the spell referenced in the sourcebook online. Does the sourcebook have it omitted by mistake?

That one is indeed on the Cleric spell list.

Book of Ebon Tides includes a few spells that aren’t normally in the book itself, but are used by monsters or magic items in the book.

Since those things couldn’t be used without the spell.

Check the class that they are attached to. For example, If you want the 2014 Totem Barbarian, you have to make sure you scroll down past Core Rules and choose the 2014 Barbarian base class. If you try to attach it to a 2024 Barbarian (i.e., Core Rules), it won't work.

Also, check that the character they are trying to add it to is in the campaign where sharing was enabled through having a master tier subscription. If not master tier or the character is not in the campaign, note, not just any character, the specific character trying to use the shared content, it just won't work.

Yeah, they’ll need to select Barbarian and Paladin, not Barbarian or Paladin.

With Barbarian, they’d need the 2024 PHB and its Path of the Wild Heart instead (the updated and renamed version of Path of the Totem Warrior).

And Paladin won’t be able to select Oath of the Open Sea because Critical Role has not yet provided a version for use with the 2024 classes.

A common problem that causes this is logging on with a different method.

For example, if you have both a Twitch and Google account attached to the same Google email and all your purchases are registered as Twitch on dndbeyond, logging on with the Google option will give you nothing. The reverse would also apply.

Similarly, I own a few Google accounts. If I log on with my non gaming one, I will get a blank set of purchases.

So, try logging on with a different authentication that you also own.
