Okay then I keep waiting and see when it does work or not work.
but the banner finally loaded so theres that.
Yeah, the banner is unrelated to the book release.
As for the book, though: did you purchase the physical+digital bundle? That's the only way to get into the early access today.
Otherwise, the book will be available on release day, September 19th.
Id have to double check bit I believe I did..... ah yeah nope I didn't 🤣
Okay that explains that. Sry for that throuble. Havent gotten digital only since dragonlance
I did get the bundle but as far as I see it hasn’t released yet
And you redeemed the code for it?
If you go to this page, does it say your account entitlements are in sync?
https://www.dndbeyond.com/account/marketplace
Yes
Did anyone do the pre-order digital/physical bundle for Bigby's? How long after the actual release date did it take to get your book? I want to do it for Planescape, but it took FOREVER when I did the Dragonlance bundle. Has it gotten better?
And what happens when you try to access the book?
I did, my Book came a Day before release to me in Germany with french post.
The dragonlance bundle and the golden vault one did take longer for me.
Thanks! That's exactly the kind of info I was looking for.
Sorry for the stupid question but anyway I joined a campaign and got shared a couple books from it. I downloaded them but if I try to use character building options it doesn’t show up I hope I worded that correctly
You’ll need to create the character inside the DnDBeyond campaign that is sharing that content with you to be able to use it.
Ohhh ok
In DMG, healing potions (the common variant with no descriptors like "greater") are introduced in the magic items list. DDB however, lists only greater and up as magic items and the common one as merely equipment, as you can see here: https://www.dndbeyond.com/equipment/potion-of-healing and you can notice in the category page https://www.dndbeyond.com/magic-items/4708-potion-of-healing that healing is colored green for normal items instead of blue for magic items.
Seemingly DMG and DDB are in conflict about this: Is it an errata/clarification on the DMG text or a data entry error on DDB?
The standard healing potion is listed as equipment because it appears in the PHB as equipment.
https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/basic-rules/equipment#OtherAdventuringGear
Does this mean that it's specifically a magic item a) always b) sometimes or c) never?
It's definitely always magical, since it's referred to in both books as such.
If there's a scenario in which it being specifically a magic item matters, then #dnd-rules can help clarify.
I'm asking for "magic item" as in the rules concept, not mere "magical" in natural language
That's a question for #dnd-rules.
the problem arises from how it is defined on DDB and whether that can be taken as an authoritative description of the item, though
It's defined in D&D Beyond per how it's defined in the rules
I'm trying to confirm whether that DDB page can be confirmed to be correct rulings or if it's possible that it's a result of error in data entry
As stated, D&D Beyond correctly lists a standard potion of healing as part of adventuring gear because the Player's Handbook lists it under adventuring gear
This does not change the fact that it is a magic item as stated in the Dungeon Master's Guide
Are the PHB and DMG rules in this case referring to one and same item or two different items with the same name? If the former, then there is an error in the DDB entry as it is lacking mentioning important data
There is no error, they're the same item listed in both the Player's Handbook and Dungeon Master's Guide. All information found in those books is presented in D&D Beyond
That is simply not true: The DDB page for it does not present it as a magic item
in which case that error should definitely be corrected on DDB
If you're refering to the listing, that is because an item can only be presented in one area of the database, not two simultaneously
However, if you look at this page you'll see that potion of healing is listed
so the answer to my original question is that it's simply an error on DDB and not a clarification or errata to DMG suggesting it not being a magic item. Thanks.
There is no error, potion of healing is adventuring gear that's also a magic item, therefore it is listed as adventuring gear and a magic item separately due to the fact a lists page cannot be both
It's not an error
It's the site displaying the information correctly as intended
it's not an error if a magic item is not labeled a magic item?
Potion of healing is adventuring gear and a magic item
It is labelled as a magic item here
It's also labelled as adventuring gear here
Because, per the rules, it falls under both
if you hover over it there you can see it is not and it's even colored differently to draw attention to it
Well, your question has been answered
so if, say, the entry of vorpal blade, happened to lack the label "magic item" that would not be an error either?
I do understand that the site may have technical limitations forcing the display of incorrect information but that is still incorrect and possibly something a developer ticket should be submitted for to potentially rectify in the future
Again, is there a scenario in which this labeling matters?
It would be a lot easier to make the case that something should be changed if there's a clear reason to change it.
plenty of rules specifically refer to magic items for buying/selling them etc.
I don't think it's a great standard to not fix missing or incorrect information merely because it may not often come up in actual play. More minor stuff has been errata'd previously and if DDB is to be an official source of rules it should seek to represent them as faithfully as possible, not just "where it matters"
The rules state that a potion of healing is both adventuring gear and a magic item, does D&D Beyond not present it as both adventuring gear and a magic item?
As spam has said, actionable feedback is the most useful kind, hence why it's useful to have a scenario where an issue arrises
DDB does not present it as a magic item as seen on it's own page here: https://www.dndbeyond.com/equipment/potion-of-healing
I linked to where it does present it as a magic item
That page matches what is presented in the PHB.
If it presented it as a magic item on that page, that would be misleading as it is adventuring gear as well
And I linked to the page where is it not, is that page somehow more exempt to being correct than the other?
It's come up multiple times in discussions I've had about whether regular potions of healing should be subject to the suggestions on scarcity and buying as described in the DMG
That would be a question for the Sage Advice blog rather than D&D Beyond
The rules list it in two locations; the players handbook equipment section and the dungeon master's guide magic item section
but as you say it's supposed to refer to the same item as described in DMG, in which case it would make sense to feature the full description of the item
D&D Beyond matches that
What that means rules wise is not a question for this channel I'm afraid
To clarify: there is nowhere in the rules that state whether these two entries refer to the same thing or not.
even on the generic healing potions page if you mouse over the regular one the tooltip shows it not being a magic item compared to the other potions and the text color is different to make it more obvious
The equipment listing matches what is described in the PHB as equipment.
The magic item listing matches what is described in the DMG as a magic item.
In both cases, the match the books as written.
which one of you two should I trust in this as you've said completely opposite things here?
No we haven't? We're in agreement; D&D Beyond matches what's printed in the books
here you state that they are the one and same item, which is contradicting what spam just said
Oh, that's got nothing to do with this channel
That's purely rules
Again, if you want to engage with that discussion, #dnd-rules would be the best place to ask
To clarify further: we're only moderators here on Discord. We're not the arbiters of the rules themselves.
If there was a case in which the information on D&D Beyond did not match what is printed in the books, we could pass along that information for the staff's consideration.
Spam and I often disagree on the rules
But in this case, since the listings accurately reflect what and how the potion of healing is reflected in the books, there's nothing for us to do in this case.
It simply exists in two books with two different descriptions.
I still believe that the page for regular healing potion, listing it as equipment instead of magic item, does not match what is printed in the DMG, but if you don't see the discrepancy it's not like I can force you to pass it along
Correct. The equipment listing matches the equipment description from the PHB.
That page, as has been stated multiple times, reproduces what is listed in the equipment section
It is the way D&D has chosen to represent it in the Players Handbook and this is what DnDBeyond has followed. At this point we should move on and leave the channel open for technical support issues with DnDBeyonds tools and services.
assuming you are not djinnis, you do have to see how while technically correct how nonsensical the end result is?
If the fact that its listed in two books with two different descriptions makes the rules unclear, that's a concern for the rules itself. DDB simply strives to present the rules as written.
Figured let's end this on a light hearted note
Sometimes thats how the rules be
Hi there @hollow geyser let's see what's up
Where are you trying to create a campaign?
So I'm a mobile user and a long time ago I did made one
But I can't find the button to create one
So if you go to https://www.dndbeyond.com/my-campaigns do you see your existing campaigns? These would be ones you've created or are part of (campaigns created by others that you are a part of).
God thanks mate
Okay so you found your campaign now? All good?
Yep thanks mate
Hey I cant open my character sheet or anything character building in beyond rn but my app works. ive tried restarting, switching browsers, clearing cache, nothing just a white loading screen. It's been nearly a week and still nothing, and no response to my ticket either.
Just to make sure , you're not running any VPN or ad blockers? If so, please disable those, clear browser cache and restart the browser, and try logging in again.
I can't look up customer service tickets but please be patient as it was a long holiday weekend here in the US and that may impact customer service response times.
I play Dnd beyond on my pretty powerful PC and yet for some reason the dice animations are really laggy. Every roll takes around 10 seconds to finish
I've tried lowering the shadows and changing the die set but it doesn't ever seem to fix it
Try changing hardware acceleration in the browser settings.
I need a DDB mod to DM me please about a pre-order I made.
Hey i have a doubt about the homebrew spells.
Its posible to make an spell that let's you choose the damage before casting?(im trying to make Spirit Shroud but with a diferent flavour text)
Thank you.
Ive tried to make It but only displays the radiant damage. Ping me for help pls
You would just put it in the description, there's no way for spells to dynamically change damage
Ok
If I mistakenly purchsed the digital version of Phandelver & Below but wished to purchase the Bundle + Digital version is there any way to get credited for purchasing the digital version twice? Or did I goof this up?
You would need to contact customer service.
Already did just thought I'd ask while I wait for their reply
Hey any idea why the app is trying to charge me full price for the DMG and the MM that are on sale...?
Because app stores don't have an easy way for DnDBeyond/WoTC to change pricing for sales - if you want to buy the sale price, please use the website marketplace.
Can do, just gotta wait til I'm home in that case
is there a way to play homebrew subclasses or races on D&D beyond?
Yes - folks can make and use homebrewed subclasses and homebrewed races.
But due to limitations of DnDBeyond's systems, it does not support hombrew classes or homebrew mundane items.
ok thx
I'm trying to make a homebrew magic item my dm gave my character, it allows my character to cast mending as an action instead of one minute. Is there a way in making the item to change the casting time of the spell, or should I make a homebrew spell version of mending that has the reduced casting time?
Not possible as a magic item, but you could either homebrew the spell or pair the item with a homebrew feat.
alright, that's what I figured. Thank you
can i buy options from taldorei reborn a la carte like i can for other books?
Those are only available with the purchase of the book itself.
ah damn ok, thanks you!
Hey im new
Can anyone tell me how to calculate the damage here
What does to hit mean?
The creature rolls a D20 and add that +8 as it's "To Hit" bonus. If that is higher than the target's AC, it is a hit. Then either use the 13 flat damage, or roll 2d8 and add 4 for damage.
Then the otehr effects take hold if it successfully hits.
For further questions, this would be best fit in #dnd-rules or #dm-discussion
No i think that covers it thanks
Is there a way to change my profiles name I never got an option to when I made it
On the website?
Yeah
Go to this thread and post that you want a name change credit
Thank you
How do you make a monster snippet (such as [monster]mimic[/monster] here) display as a plural? I want a "Mimics" word in the red monster text to hyperlink to the Mimic statblock.
You might have to keep the s separate from the mimic text. So [monster]mimic[/monster]s.
But then it's not the red hyperlink text. It'd be like Mimics
Those aren't snippets by the way, they're tooltips
You can give tooltips alt text
so [monster]mimic;mimics[/monster] should display Mimics but function as a mimic tooltip
Ah, thank you Davyd
There's a general syntax
[tooltip]tooltip_name;displayed_text[/tooltip]
So the semi-colon make it display the plural word but tells the behind the scene's code to do the lookup for the first word?
Interesting. Today I learned....
Seems so, like function word first, then display as the second word
On the topic of monsters, you can also specify source
[monster src=vgtm]Vegepygmy[/monster] will link to Vegepygmy from Volo's Guide to Monsters
[monster src=motm]Vegepygmy[/monster] will link to Vegepygmy from Monsters of the Multiverse
You can get the source code from the URL of the book
Very cool!
My friend is trying to be an artificer and they don’t know what slider to turn on to get it, so is it a setting or do you need to pay?
Purchasing any artificer subclass will unlock the base class as well.
Alchemist, armorer, artillerist, or battle smith
Hey umm can someone tell me if a vampire gets all these traits from the start or they gradually get them as they level up
@grand vault This channel is for getting helping using D&D Beyond
That screenshot is from roll20
Ohh sorry
#dnd-rules can help if you have questions about the statblock itself, but monsters don't typically level up.
Ahh no one of my players took vampire as his race
There is no official vampire player race.
So #homebrew could help you figure things out, then.
Ohhh ok sorry and thanks
There is the Lineages - Dhampir that is kind of close to a playable vampire race
Yes, I'm aware, but that's not what they shared above.
how would you make 10 + your wisdom modifer show up as one number in text
so if you have +3 in wis it would be 13
Thank you so much!
Ya still nothing, rip my ddb ig
Still looking for help maybe new eyes here can help. I cant open my character sheet or anything character building in beyond rn but my app works. ive tried restarting, switching browsers, clearing cache, nothing just a white loading screen. It's been nearly a week and still nothing, and no response to my ticket either. No vpn, and no ad blockers or pop up blockers for dndbeyond site
Can you share a link to one of your characters?
@forest ocean What happens when you try to access it?
Did you purchase the physical+digital bundle, and redeem the code?
😭 I was quick to purchase and bought the base version, I'm wanting to ask for a refund so I can buy the bundle but I read that they don't allow for refunds so I'm at a loss. Is there anything I can do?
Can't hurt to ask anyway: http://dndbeyond.link/SubmitTicket
Can you create eldritch invocations on ddb?
might have to jury it make making a feat can naming it the invocation
Yeah, I’d make a feat and then just leave my invocation choice unselected.
So, I am making a slaver thri-kreen, and I am having trouble picking a background for this, any ideas? He slaves evil creatures and criminals.
Edited-Nevermind
This channel is for technical support for DnDBeyond tools and services not about character discussions.
oh, sorry about that
Hello,
I'm considering pre-ordering the Planescape: Adventures in the Multiverse Digital + Physical Bundle but unlike previous pre-order bundles, it is not clearly stated that dndbeyond perks (dice, backdrop, etc...) will be unlocked.
So my question is are these perks awarded upon pre-ordering the Digital + Physical bundle or only through digital pre-order ?
Digital/physical bundles do indeed grant you the digital pre-order bonuses when you redeem the key that is emailed to you on completing your purchase
Is there a way to make a creature into a sidekick from Tasha's? I've looked and haven't found one. It's getting harder and harder to manually keep up with all of the features and ASIs that my kobold sidekick is gaining.
You copy and existing monster and apply the sidekick changes to the stat block
That's the only way currently
Would I need to create that as a homebrew monster?
Yep
Hey all, I noticed that the Bloodshed weapons say "add constitution modifer to attack and damage rolls"
Im assuming the DDB still does not have a way of incorperating that, seeing as how it doesnt seem to apply to my character while equipped and attuned
Bloodshed Blade. We currently have no way to add a character’s Constitution modifier to the damage rolls of this weapon. We recommend customizing the weapon directly from the character sheet to add the appropriate bonus to damage.
Is there a way to add spells to a monster's stat block?
Yes, you copy the stat block using the homebrew tools and add the spells that way
is there a way to add extra damage to unarmed strikes from items or is it that for a custom attack?
if you want to upload druid sub class, what would be the requirements? i just finished my own druid sub class and it says "This homebrew Subclass does not have the necessary class features with the correct required levels." i have 2 level 2, a level 6, a level 10 and a level 14 feature, which is the same amount as the circle of stars. what am i missing?
druid has a hidden level 3 requirement that is baked into the base class to support Circle of the Land which gets a level 3 feature
you need at least one feature at each required level (which includes level 3) if you need to publish it
ok thank you
Might depend on what exactly you're trying to add, but if it's just a fixed number, then there's a couple Modifiers you can use.
- Type: Bonus (and/or Damage)
- Subtype: Unarmed Strikes
- Fixed Value: 1 (or whatever number you want to add)
Hey can i have someone help me out? Im new to using dnd beyond and whenever i make a spell it doesnt allow you to role for hit.
i have it set up to role damage, but for rolling for hit stays blank for some reason
The best way to figure out the homebrew system is to find an official spell that works the way you want, then make a homebrew copy of it to see how it was set up.
Steal its secrets 🤫
My guess, though, is that you need to select an ability score.
im homebrewing a one piece dnd, (Its my first campaign lol so probably not the best idea) but how do i copy spells
When you go to create a spell, you can select an existing spell as a template.
Doing so will give you an exact copy of it.
So then you can peek inside and compare it to yours.
Oh, actually...
Under "Additional Information", did you set "Attack Type"?
yea i set it to ranged
Was it set that way to begin with, or did you edit it in afterward?
Sometimes homebrew edits can take up to 15 minutes to appear on the character sheet.
dnd beyond can be so confusing lmao. i did set everything up from the beginning tho.
Hey i tried having a level 2, a level 3, a level 6, a level 10 and a level 14 but it still didn’t work
Also tried the same thing but with 2 level 2s
Hello, why can’t I access the shattered obelisk, it says I should be able to 3 days ago
Standard debugging questions
- Have you checked your account entitlements (https://www.dndbeyond.com/account/marketplace) that is there and everything is in sync
- Did you definitely order the Physical & Digital bundle that gives early access?
- If you got the bundle, did you redeem the code?
Unless you're trying to publish it to the global community (after it's been finished and playtested and works as intended), you can just ignore those errors altogether. It gets shared with your campaigns automatically and can be used as-is.
But if you've got features at the required levels, I'd suggest hitting the main save button to re-trigger the validation.
If that doesn't clear the error, then you don't have features at the required levels.
Druids need features at 2, 3, 6, 10, and 14.
https://www.dndbeyond.com/forums/dungeons-dragons-discussion/homebrew-house-rules/23242-creating-subclasses-guide
ah thank you that worked!
Does purchasing the Rune Carver background also get you the Rune Shaper feat?
I'm honestly not sure, but I suspect not.
Buying a subclass that references a spell doesn't unlock the spell itself, for example.
What do I need to turn on for it? I have everything turned in except for Rick and morty and Minecraft content
Dunamancy spells are only available to the wizard subclasses from that book by default (per the text of the book itself).
You can make a homebrew copy of those spells to change their availability if desired.
Alternatively, you can use a homebrew race, subclass, or background to add them to your spell list.
Ahh I see. Well dang. Thank you!
1 yes
2 no, I bought digital book only, I buy the physical alt art from my FLG
The early access if available only to those who purchased the physical+digital bundle here.
https://dndstore.wizards.com/us/product/820931/phandelver-and-below-the-shattered-obelisk-digital-plus-physical-bundle
If you purchased from anywhere else, the book will be available on release day, September 19th.
So now you’re timegating us because you hate FLGs?
Checks out
And they are pretty specific about the early access only being available with those bundles from their own store
Hey! I work at a community college library where we are considering starting to provide 5e materials to students and staff. We haven’t decided between going physical or going digital or doing some sort of split between the two so I am here to get some some insight about the dndb master subscription.
- I see that with the master subscription tier we would be able to share materials we purchased. Does that mean people we shared with would actually be able to read the books? Also is that just sourcebooks or would that also include adventures?
- Is there a way where to confirm the email of people we share materials with? Administration would very likely want us to be able to verify that the people we are sharing with are students or staff.
The Master Tier subscription lets you enable content sharing for up to five campaigns. Each campaign can support up to 12 players (plus the DM) and up to 100 characters.
When the subscription is enabled, any books owned by anyone in that campaign are shared with everyone else in the campaign.
They'd be able to read the full book (unless the DM chooses to restrict sharing for that particular book), but any shared character options are usable only for characters within that campaign.
You would be able to see the D&D Beyond usernames for anyone in those campaigns, but not their email addresses.
In your particular case, I'd suggest applying for a D&D Beyond Educator License here:
https://dnd.wizards.com/resources/educators
Oh wow i probably should have looked for something like that right from the start! Thank you for the answers and the link. Much appreciated!
There's an article here that explains more about how content sharing works as well:
https://dndbeyond-support.wizards.com/hc/en-us/articles/7747210355604-Campaign-Content-Sharing-and-You
is the bloodwell vial supposed to give the bonuses for warlock/pact of the blade spells if you multiclass as well? I saw the errata that says that there is an error on ddb about that, but my player is arguing that there's something about how pact of the blade warlock works that makes it work. I'm not so sure.
Is there any way to get the blood hunter to show up in the ddb app like all the other classes?
No, not currently as the app doesn't support listing homebrew
That’s more of a #dnd-rules question, but…
You can use the vial as a spellcasting focus for your spells while wearing or holding it, and you gain a bonus to spell attack rolls and to the saving throw DCs of your sorcerer spells.
The first part would work for warlock spells, since it just says “spells”.
And the second part works only for sorcerer spells, because it says “sorcerer spells”.
Regarding this encounter tool, when I kill all monsters, How do I close the encounter, do I just delete it?
The encounter can remain saved for use later - but yes, you could delete it if you want.
Is there a way to turn off automatic sharing of homebrew monsters with others in my campaign?
So I own Volo's Guide and the Handbook. I've had them since 2016. I tried the codes and stuff but nothing is working and D&D Beyond is saying I don't own them
Is there a dm that needs an extra?
how do I turn these into digital copies?
oo
What's the best way to get started?
I've played D&D back in the day (when you had to buy the coloured boxes as you levelled up) & more recently have played some Baldur's Gate.
Means I'm used to playing solo & at my pace
Anything in your My Homebrew Collection gets shared, so you can simply remove it from there. (You’ll still be able to find it in My Homebrew Creations instead.)
Not sure what codes you’re referring to. There aren’t generally redemption codes for the physical books.
And Volo’s, at least, is no longer sold. (Monsters of the Multiverse offers updated versions of those rules.)
Also isn't DDB more recent than 2016?
Edit: Yup, August 2017 was the launch date
But you can use the homebrew tools to recreate that content instead.
Or you can purchase just the character options, monsters, etc. that you need for now.
Whatever you spend on those gets credited toward the cost of the book itself, too.
Great, thanks, Spam! I didn't realize removing it from my collection would keep it in my creations. I'm the last to accuse my players of metagaming, but it's always bugged me to think they could simply look up the custom monster and ruin the surprise I spent so much time on.
I can't spend money right now for something I basically already have. Thanks WoTC for paywalling me
I'm gonna use dicecloud
Check out #dnd-newcomers!
It’s not paywalling per se. There’s simply no way to be able to verify whether a user owns those physical copies.
And like I said, you can use the homebrew tools to recreate the content of your books at no cost.
Hai,
is it intentional that the proficiencies you get from your background do not appear as option for expertise in the Rogue class features?
Can you share a link to your character?
Nevermind... once I opened the character sheet, it updated and allowed the choice.
One thing I also noticed - before I opened the sheet, the dropdown for the Rogue proficiency selection didn't show the background in brackets for those skills.
I suspect it wasn't detecting the custom background?
Ah, yeah
Sometimes adding custom background proficiencies can take a minute to pop up on the rest of the sheet.
How do I make a Subrace a subrace to my race (I’ve made a Race with [Has subraces] ticked, and then made a subrace with the button) , but it doesn’t give it the features (I’ve used elf as the reference/copy) in the edit section, and when I want to replace Languages it doesn’t allow me to replace it because it isn’t there. (You may need to @ me so I can see your response).
As in, I’ve made a Race, as a copy of Elf, then ticked [Has subraces] and made a subrace, but I can’t group it as a subrace nor does it appear as a Subrace the same way as Elves.
Two versions of the same subrace when I was trying to solve this
Whenever I try to load my homebrew creations or make a new homebrew option, usually only when editing, the website slows down significantly before loading it for a while. Any idea what's causing this?
Honestly, right now the site is taking significantly longer than normal to load pretty much anything.
It is a weekend, might be higher load, plus additional unrelated load on whatever web services DDB is hosted on
oh ok, I was getting worried that I just had so much homebrew it was breaking the game. Glad to hear that's not the case. Though, not glad to see the site isn't working like, at all for me now. I tried clearing my cache and now it straight up won't load me into the website when I try to sign back in
It's fine I guess, I'll just have to mess with the site later then
Standard debugging questions.
- Have you disabled any extensions that may be interfering with the site?
- Any VPN active etc?
It's extremely delayed for our group as well. Clearing cache no help, neither was a restart or different browser. We are back on now but it is on and off
There is currently some extra load and the devs are attempting to fix it. There may be some downtime as they do so.
ah, thanks.
Yeah it crashed on my end too. It’s Saturday I guess.
Devs are looking into a load issue - they hope to have it resolved soon. There may be some downtime as they work on a solution.
Any updates on the downtime?
We will say something here if there is any update on it.
We do ask that you wait for us to have an update so we can best utilize this channel.
I have a question about how to add something to a homebrew class on DDB. Should I post that question here, in the homebrew channel, or somewhere else altogether?
You can ask here, but the likely answer is to find something that already does it or something similiar, and make a copy to see how they do it.
I feel really dumb, but I think I just figured it out. I didn't know how to add a proficiency bonus to an action in the race builder... but I just had to save the trait and then it showed up. My bad, lol
I am told that maintenance appears to have been successful and that it should be smoother now.
kind of ruins the point of keeping everything on file convieniently tho
honestly i wish they still sold volo's and mordekainen's
there was a lot of fun lore in those books
i don't really see why they had to be removed
Hey, I have a question. So thinking of buying a few campigns, player handbook and DM handbook, can i run the full campign through DnD beyond? Cause i saw a map pack to buy and such
Depends on what exactly you mean by “run the full campaign”. 😅
This article covers the basics of what you can do with D&D Beyond.
https://www.dndbeyond.com/posts/754-how-to-play-dungeons-dragons-using-d-d-beyond
Is there a way to have DDB roll a random character and NOT use Homebrew?
Hi. I bought all sub-classes, feats and spells for my account. CanI share that with my party in my campaign?
If someone in your group has a Master Tier subscription, they can enable Content Sharing for your campaign.
Once that's enabled, everyone's purchased game content gets shared with everyone else.
And they'll be able to use those character options for any characters in that campaign.
I believe the only option would be to remove anything you don't want from your My Homebrew Collection. (Anything you created could still be found in My Homebrew Creations instead.)
ty, this answers a lot
Hello, I'm just getting started with a campaign (we're all pretty new) and using DDB. I want to use a homebrew class (ink mage) and I'm looking for a way to accomplish this on DDB, is it possible?
D&D Beyond does not support homebrew classes I'm afraid
Is there a way to restore a previous version of a character sheet?
Is there an alternative you could recommend??
Is there a way to create a magic item that casts spells with a check box next to each spell? For example, Necklace of Prayer Beads has beads that contain a spell that can be cast once per day, but the item shows in inventory as if it has charges, so you have to keep track separately which spell has been cast.
No, not currently
There isn't in afraid
Ah ok, thanks!
Ok, thanks!
Is it possible to have a feature that allows assigning digital dice to characters ?
What do you mean by assigning digital dice to characters?
Something like when I'm using PC A's sheet, it automatically uses digital dice 1 but when I'm using PC B's sheet, it automatically uses digital dice 2 and so on.
Oh, you mean to set what dice skin is used on a sheet-by-sheet basis? No, that's not currently possible
Where do I find a campaign?
Yes exactly that.
Do you have an idea if it's something that is planned in the future ?
I have no such information

I want my party to make their character sheets on ddb, but all of them have selected races and classes from wildly different books, which will cost me a bunch of money on top of the subscription for content sharing, I know you can individually buy certain thing's from the books, but can you also share this with your players?
Yes you can, with the higher tier subscription. However the DM does not need to be the one with the subscription (nor the one with the content, who also doesn't have to be the subscriber).
As long as someone has the higher tier subscription I can I can share the individual race/classes with my party?
Assuming that subscriber activated Content Sharing for your campaign, yes.
Hello, I bought a physical + digital bundle for The Book of Many Things and I activated the digital code on dndbeyond but when I click on the book it doesn't say I own it.
Usually after I preorder a book digitally, there's some text that says "You already own this." when I click on it.
You may need to try to Sync Entitlements on your account page. It also sometimes takes a little to process. If it doesn’t show up, though, I’d open a support ticket through the website.
Ok so the book appears in my "Product Licences" but it doesn't show as owned in the Marketplace.
Is this the channel to report a bug?
It might just not be hooked up yet on DDB. If you’ve got it in your licenses, you’ll get access to it when it’s time!
It's not about the licence, I have that. It just doesn't appear as owned in the marketplace.
That’s the intended behavior.
The code you’ve redeemed is a separate license that provides a two-week early access to the digital version.
Whereas the marketplace page is looking for the license that unlocks it on release day.
After the book is released, the two licenses will be merged and then you’ll see “You already own this” as expected.
Thanks for the insight.
The dates don't feel right. I know this isn't dndbeyond but maybe we should get some clarification. When is the book actually coming out? DDB says November, dndstore says October.
The /us and /uk sites both agree with D&D Beyond on November 14th.
That’s also two weeks after the specified early access date, on which all sites agree.
So I’m assuming the /eu site simply has the wrong date.
October 17th is also the release date for Planescape, which could explain a mixup.
Ok. It's been like this since the book was announced. No one seems to have caught the error :))
What class or feat give me Whip as a weapon
I can't find it I was going to go for Sorceress and bard
as to me a Whip is the best weapon for Succubus
Any class that gives martial weapon proficiency. Also, there is the option of some races getting weapon proficiencies and switching those weapons with Tasha's optional rules. Finally, there is a feat that gives weapon proficiencies assuming you are allowed to use optional feats. Ask your DM
did you just reword it for me thanks :p
succubus.. it appears your gm is already homebrewing for you just ask them to add whip to the race. Also, not sure that this qualifies as DDB's issue.
I don't have gm and When I said Succubus I mean winged Tiefling which is closest I just like making characters for fun
Hey idk if this is a bug or a new update to dndbeyond, but I can no longer edit my players' characters in my campaign? This kinda sucks since that was always a convenient way to help players level up PCs and manage their characters
There's been no change in that functionality
How are you accessing their character, through the campaign or via URL you have saved/bookmarked?
Collections -> My Campaigns -> View Campaign -> Edit (on character)
And what happens when you try and edit the character?
No options appear, only the descriptions of each section (class, abilities, equipment, etc)
I should also mention this problem seems to persist between multiple devices and different browsers on each
(Sorry, had to wait out slowmode haha)
Can you provide a link to the character?
It seems to be happening with every character in the campaign. Here's the link to one of them, and some screenshots of the problem itself
https://www.dndbeyond.com/characters/108363907
Have you tried clicking the arrows?
If the character has the builder tutorial enabled, whenever you click a tab at the top, you'll get the guide first
However, you can access the relevant page by clicking the next arrow
You can disable the tutorial by clicking the blue questionmark circle
😅 guess I was just being an idiot, that was the problem
Sorry for wasting your time haha
If I buy a digital + physical bundle on WOTC do I get an email with a code to get the DDB download?
Should be fixed. Thanks for the report!
When will Phandelver Below be up on the App, and fully accessible for preorders?
Can you create non humanoid races using the DDB homebrew creator? And if so, how?
I made a copy of the Satyr race, to see how they structured it. I looks like they have it listed as a Racial Trait called "Creature Type"
There is no special mechanic to it other than just writing "you are a [blank]" in the text boxes
Thanks, that makes sense because I don’t think a character’s creature type is ever mentioned in a DDB character sheet.
Did you (or your DM) add it to your (their) collection? That’s a necessary step for it to show in a campaign.
Is there a way where the link isn't a pdf?
I have an extra Light cantrip on my spells list, but I can't find a way to delete it? it only shows up on the character sheet, not when I'm in the editor. the slot says both "always prepared" and "delete", but when I click to delete it gives me an error.
Did you enable homebrew for the character you want this added to? Asking because it's often overlooked.
yeah, that was what it was. thanks 🙂
Hey! I'm kinda new to DnD and am gonna be uising DnD Beyond for it but I've got a question. If I buy the virtual Players Handbook as the DM, will my players get the benefits when creating a character? Like will they have access to the extra subclasses/feats/spells that come with the handbook or does it mean only I get them if I make a character?
the custom background isn't showing my selected proficiencies on the character sheet
ok, I got it to work... just had to mess around in the background tab for a while
Which supply do I need in order to make a character that is a lizardfolk?
What subclass of cleric are you?
Hi! I just want to get some confirmation with somebody that could help me, a friend group of mine that I've been getting to know a lot lately came down to the agreement of wanting to play a campaign sometime next week assuming we at least.
And so I decided to reuse beyond again, but the thing is that I don't have any of the source books so I went to go finally buy one of the source books but I just want to confirm that even though it's getting me an address to put in I won't be receiving any physical copies if I were to get something that's digital right?
Correct, any purchases made through D&D Beyond are for digital only and the address requirement is just for security and tax verification
However, purchases made throught dndstore.wizards.com are for digital + physical bundles so will include a physical copy of the book in addition to a code for the digital version
So tl;dr
dndbeyond.com = Digital Only
dndstore.wizards.com = Digital + Physical Bundles
This isn't dnd beyond help but it's just general help with D&D
So me and my friends want to do Dungeons and Dragons one of my friends said I would only play if our characters are involved and our worlds and we needed to find a dungeon master but I stepped in and said sure I will be the dungeon master now I got all these cool ideas for custom but there's a problem I don't know how dnd works I only played once and that was a couple of years ago and I'm expected to do most of the stuff I've already made like a little map but I haven't added the details on it so it's just a plane map with nothing on it no buildings nothing and I also don't know how leveling system works I don't know how to make a balanced stat block just basically anything so I'm just asking help for someone to just give me advice or how to do certain things because now I have to merge stories and make a bunch of customs lol
@haughty blade This channel is for getting help with D&D Beyond specifically
You probably want #dm-discussion
Idk if this is the right channel or not. I'm trying to grant spells at a certain level, but if I add spells to my class feature it displays them as options in the builder
Where do i enter them to just grant the spell at level 3 or 5, etc.
In the subclass, go to the class feature, down in the bottom, click "add spell" and then fill it in as either known or prepared.
Or did you want it as a spelllist where they have options?
Someone in your group would need to get a Master Tier subscription and enable Content Sharing for that campaign.
You can find that in Monsters of the Multiverse. You can buy either the full book or just that race.
In the homebrew editor, you need to add each spell as its own separate entry.
If you list multiple spells in a single entry, it will prompt the player to choose between them.
Thank you so much!
Is there a way to change the range on a weapon on DND Beyond?
Not sure if its possible yet but I suggest, from what I found, is customize weapons to add "Actual Range (x/y)" to the Notes, at least for reference.
Hi, more need help with the discord. Is there a room I can post an add for myself. I'm look for a group?

Is there anything "new" or any update about the DND beyond twitch extension? Or is there anything similar to allow the viewer to show the characters of our session?
There hasn't been any update on it, no
And there's no officially supported alternative
Is there any way to bring this up again or check for an update ? I'd really love to see this again
Not really, it's something the team is aware of as a feature that is no longer usable, and if there are updates, they'll be posted in the changelog
If you buy individual parts of sourcebooks can you still share them with your players using content sharing? The content management screen seems to only show books I own in their entirety. For example I own all the subclasses, subraces and spells from the Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide but nothing relating to it appears on my content management list. I do own a master sub and I've already tried disabling/re-enabling content sharing
Yes you can, the content management screen is for controlling what compendium content is shared so you can prevent your players from reading an adventure you're running
❓ Is it possible to unlock books I bought in hardcover into my D&D Beyond account?
Without the material in the other books, DDB is pretty useless to me.
?books
There are five ways to access content on D&D Beyond that you may have in your physical books
- Purchase the full book from the marketplace
- Purchase individual elements from the marketplace (options can be found within the book description)
- Purchase a digital/physical bundle from dndstore.wizards.com
- Join a campaign with someone who already owns the book where content sharing has been enabled
- Use the homebrew tools to copy the content from your physical book into D&D Beyond. Note: Do not publish any content copied in this way, it is for personal use only
ahh I see, so all the individual stuff I own should already automatically be shared? Thankyou for your time and apologies for what's probably a silly question
If you have content sharing enabled via a master tier subscription, yes
Not at all a silly question
so i am prepping up to run the beyond the witchlight campign with the books i got form DDB, so they have maps which is super useful but wondering if any reccomended map app that have access to the premade campigns assets since we wanna run frostmaiden and decent to avernus next.

I'm not seeing any slowdown.
it's a bit better now
Hello guys! My friends and I wanted to start playing dnd with dnd beyond (we live in different cities). If I purchase the PHB, and have the master tier subscription, my friends can acces all the PHB content with a free account? Or i need something else, thank you!
They just need to be in the same campaign as you
Great! Thank you
This is the second time this has happened to me and it’s very concerning. I can’t say for sure that the first time it happened after an app update on iOS but this one sure did. I updated it on Monday and then this happened, I was hoping it would go away but it’s still doing this. I really don’t want to have to uninstall and reinstall the app again, it’s already been super difficult to run games as well as it was before because I lost all my original bookmarks.
I need help on how to share a campaign
Hey, I opened a support ticket nearly three weeks ago, and all I’ve received is an email two weeks ago saying there’d be a delay due to high volumes. This feels too long, high traffic or not, so is there anything I can do or should I just continue waiting?
On the website, go to your campaigns and select the campaign you want to share. At the top of the page, there should be a link to share.
Hey all, I may need some help.
We are just starting to use encumbered and my DM is asking for our characters PDF. The problem is what's being displayed on the ddb site and what's on the PDF are different as far as equipment and weight carried.
The PDF shows my character carrying 217 lb's and it seems to be missing some items I have in my backpack and is showing some items as doubled (currently in equipment) in the "additional equipment" section below. ddb site show im carrying 201 lb's.
anyone have any thoughts on whats going on here?
Its probably a bag of holding causing the problem. For some reason the pdfs will show the weight that is in the bag as being on your person instead of in the bag.
To fix this I just changed the weight number that was in that filed before I printed out the pdf
Good idea! but I dont have a bag of holding 😦
Well im not sure then. Ive only come across this with a bag of holding
Is it possible to have a Homebrew Spell in my collection added as a Tool tip to a sheet?
Why is this happening with my fighter subclass
ITs lvl 20 and has just multiplied every single attack by like 7
Is it a homebrew subclass?
Perhaps it was created incorrectly and creates attacks at different levels?
It might also be that something got selected multiple times in the character editor, possibly by having the sheet open in multiple tabs at once.
You could try unselecting the subclass, refresh the page to make sure it’s gone (keep unselecting it again if needed), then select it again.
Im having difficulty deleting characters in my campaigns that are NOT mine - It says i have exceeded my limit but there is no option under 'my characters' to delete anything to help me view other peoples character sin my campaigns.
i can 'tick and activate' but then by going back to my campaign, each time i try and view the character it takes me BACK to MY CHARACTERS, and has completely different things selected, I cant even delete any character sheets. Can anyone help at all?
it says I have 4/6 but it wont let me do.. ANYTHING
Clicking on any character sheet link from my own campaign also just takes me back to /characters.
Not to the sheet itself.
So now i cant even set up characters for my campaign. All character sheet links go directly to https://www.dndbeyond.com/characters.
is there a way to get the extra damage from weapons to roll as well? Like flametongues or frostbrands?
There isn't I'm afraid
Do you mean you’re trying to delete your own characters from other people’s campaigns, or other people’s characters from your own campaigns? Can you perhaps share some screenshots to demonstrate the issue?
Hi, I was wondering how I can add a character that I created into the Campaign as a DM. Well, I don't even really know if I'm doing this right on DNDBeyond...
I'm trying to get the characters premade for the campaign into the campaign somehow. (Lost Mine of Phandelver) I have the characters in "my characters" which I selected from the pre-made ones of the campaign.
Is there a way to share these characters with another account? So that they can add them to their character list?
I'm so sorry, I have really no Idea what I'm doing. I would just like to do a test run with my dad. So that I can be ready for the first adventure
So in your DnDBeyond campaign page, up near the top left is a link/URL. Open this in a browser and you'll be prompted to add an existing character into that campaign or create a new character inside that campaign.
Please note that DnDBeyond campaigns do not provide a Virtual Table Top with maps and tokens - it is merely a way to organize a set of character sheets connected to a campaign, share information via the notes section, and provide a shared dice rolling log for dice rolls made on DnDBeyond (or through Avrae discord bot).
Sorry - link is in the top right
The Campaign invite link
ohhhhh I get it, and then I can unassign them and assign them to the players who are going to play them....
I was actually wondering about how to best go through the campaign. Since we are going to play in person, I just wanted to make sure everyone has access to their characters and I can see the updated characters myself from everyone.
But what if I enable share content? Can they then see the campaign digital book? Because we don't want that obviously right?
Once content sharing is enabled, the DM (owner) of that campaign can configure whether the actual book content is shared or not.
The character creation bits are always enabaled but the book text content sharing can be toggle on/off.
I am starting up a brand new D&D course in the Oslo school of arts, seeking to educate young DMs/players/content creators in an age range between 11-19. Are there any educational resources or discounts in D&D beyond that I should be aware of?
Nothing that immediately comes to mind,~~ but it is important to note that it is against D&D Beyonds terms of use for anyone under the age of 13 to make an account on the site~~

Do you know how long it’ll go?
The staff of flowers is incredibly op. Think about it a flower is a part of a plant not a type of plant. Due to how it’s worded “the flower is harmless and non magical and grows and withers as a normal flower would” it would grow the stem of the flower aswell. Technically bamboo is the stem of the flower. Multiple trees that grow flowers can be grown. Cactus is a maybe seeing how it’s harmful but maybe? Do you think this would work?
Hey! How do i delete a character in DnD Beyond Moblie? Im also seeing a bug on the website when I made a new account and it wouldnt load the Character Creation screen.
You could try asking in #dnd-discussion. (This channel if for getting help with D&D Beyond.)
From the Characters screen, hit the three dots next to the character you want to remove.
Where can I find a dm
Please read #find-a-game
I d8d but nobody answered except for a guy who'd say he would play if I find a dm

I wanted to make a passive ability based off of Terraria: Calamity Mod's stealth system. how do i configure a passive ability, and can i make it only activate while in combat?
Can't really say without more details. What specifcally do you want to happen on the sheet itself, and where are you getting stuck in trying to accomplish that?
I want to make an ability where, each turn that goes by without my character attacking, they gain a small amount more attack power. I also want to give my character a lower than average strength value to balance that out.
What does "gain a small amount more attack power" mean in D&D terms? How do you want that to appear on the character sheet?
basically, i gain lets say, 2 more temporary strength every time i use an action without attacking. when i attack, that temporary strength applies to that attack then is removed, leaving me with my base strength once more. idk the exact dnd terms, im relatively new to the whole game.
i think id want it to be in either the actions section, or any section that passive abilities are grouped in.
even if an attack fails it'd still reset
There won't be a way to have it automatically increase your strength score.
But you can click your strength score and manually adjust it in the sidebar any time you need.
To add something to the Actions section, you can either click "Manage Custom" there in the top right corner of that section, or you can add it through a homebrew race, class, or feat.
could I in theory have a DM approve of the ability and then i'd just manually increase/decrease my strength each turn?
In theory, yeah.
(Though as a bit of unsolicited advice, I generally recommend newcomers focus on learning how the game works as-is before trying to modify it. But if you do wants rules advice here, #homebrew can help you develop it further.)
is 4 Goblins too much for 4 level 1 players to take down?
According to the encounter builder 4 goblins is a deadly encounter for 4 level 1s.
Do with that information as you will.
Also I think #dm-discussion would be a better place to ask.
what's this about e1 , e2 and e5?
Is it possible to create a homebrew item that uses for example Wisdom instead of Strength or Dexterity?
This channel is for getting help with D&D Beyond, which uses fifth edition.
Uses it to do what?
whoops, meant to write homebrew weapon
Intent: Basically to circumvent needing to roll Shillelagh separately
I’m not sure. If you can find an official weapon that works similarly, you can make a homebrew copy of it to see how it was set up.
But I can’t think of any off the top of my head.
nevermind, figured it out! You can add the modifier [Bonus - Magic Item Attack With Wisdom] to achieve this
So sometimes on spell lists (let's say, the Artificer as an example) I see spells like Acid Arrow and Melf's Acid Arrow on there - are they essentially still the same thing?
Is the Encounter builder down?
I've refreshed it 4 times now, tried different browsers but it wont let me save any encounters im trying to make.
Unfortunately, we encountered an error while trying to save.
We have automatically logged this error giving us a +2 to our Investigation check to help prevent future errors.
In the meantime, you could refresh the page and try building your encounter again. We're sorry for the inconvenience.```
doesnt really do anything on any other browser.
The named version is the trademarked (or copyrighted?) spell from the PHB. The nameless version is from SRD, with the trademarked portion removed.
I was able to save an encounter just now. Are you trying to create a new encounter or save an existing one? Do you get the same issue on another device?
Hey, now I am subbed how do i add people to create characters using the books i purchased?
You can enable Content Sharing for up to five campaigns you’re in. You’ll find the option in My Campaigns or at the top of the campaign page.
Any characters in that campaign will have access to those character options.
awesome, also now i am a sub i get cool art for my character sheets right, how do i activate those?
Every month there’s exclusive subscriber perks. This month is a set of map-themed backdrops for your character sheets. You can find those on your character sheet by clicking your character portrait, then selecting “Customize Sheet” in the sidebar.
If I grabbed the new phandelver book from dnd beyond (virtual only) do I get the early access?
The early access is only included with the physical+digital bundle available here:
https://dndstore.wizards.com/us/product/820931/phandelver-and-below-the-shattered-obelisk-digital-plus-physical-bundle
If you bought from anywhere else, including D&D Beyond, the book will be available on release day, September 19th.
ah shame - getting physical from local - never mind
Hey if anyone is aware of how backed up support tickets are, that would be great to know. If not, no worries
That’s not something anyone here could answer, sorry.
Tickets are answered in the order they’re received, though, and you will get an answer.
I’d also recommend against opening multiple tickets, because that could move you back in line.
When creating a custom subclass feature on DDB, am i able to create something lik ehow the Warlock's Book of Ancient Secrets invocation works, i.e being able to add spells without a limit? with that invocation, once you select a 3rd ritual spell, it adds another slot for a 4th, etc
Thanks for the answer, it’s just been nearing a month since I submitted one and was getting worried about it. I’ll wait a bit longer. 😅
Yeah. When you’re adding a spell, look for a checkbox called “Is Infinite”.
is there a way i can limit the selection list to those that are available at their level?
There’s a field called Level Divisor that might do the trick. What class is this for?
Hey so I'm in a westmarch that has a special mechanic known as Ascensions. Basically you get a second set of abilities that are unlocked at levels 10, 14, 17, and 20
The problem is that some of these abilities have a specific set of abilities to choose from.
Trying to make it into a feat isn't feasible since there are several abilities to choose from which would make trying to streamline choosing abilities for ascension nearly impossible.
Do you guys have any suggestions as to how to set it up on DND beyond? Am open to plenty of ideas
Feats would likely be the only way to handle it - and it may just need to describe in text what the abilities are and the mechnaics for them (e.g. they won't be automated or have dice rolls built in). Mainly because this is far beyond normal D&D 5th Edition mechanics and so DnDBeyond doesn't have a way to handle it.
How do I make a looking for players post?
Follow the instructions in #find-a-game
did something change with Subscriptions? I can't lookup content in my GMs campaign any longer and get pointed to "go buy this book" now.
They haven’t changed, no.
nvm, GM reports that somehow content sharing got disabled
Hey, so I created a hombrew race for group im running but i realised a spelling error and wanted to change a racial ability. So I updated them but how do they update the character sheets with the update?
If this was private homebrew, it should update itself after a little while.
If this was published homebrew, they’ll need to re-select their race and choose the updated version.
Is there a way to add custom spells, feats, etc or you just get whats available
You can create homebrew via DnDBeyond's homebrew tools and add it to your character sheets (also note you don't have to publish it to use it - publishing is just for when you've tested it and are ready to share it with the world for general use.)
wait can i use 4th and 5th level spells even though i am only 5th level sorccerer
I see a Lighting bolt option for all 9 levels spells
and would it be affected by wild magic?
You have a wand my friend
Therefore you can cast at the level the wand allow you cast at.
Since you are not casting it (the wand is), it is not covered by wild magic.
Hello. I bought Dungeon of the Mad Mage on dndbeyond, for the campaign I run with Avrae. When I use Avrae's madd command to add to combat a Githyanki Gish (they're in level 16 of W:DotMM), I'm asked:
Which one were you looking for? (Type the number or c to cancel)
[1] - Githyanki Gish (MToF; legacy)
[2] - Githyanki Gish (MotM)*
Choosing 1 seems to work, and skimming the stat block, it looks the same as the one in W:DotMM; but I'm worried about that "legacy" tag. Is there something wrong with that one?
No - just that D&D is no longer selling that legacy material any more. Nothing mechanically wrong with it. The MoTM version is, if you will, the new stat block and the one D&D will use going forward.
So I can use a 9th level spell even tho I am only 5th level wow that seem powerful
Read what the wand allows you to do.
OK, thanks. Is it an error of omission that there isn't one provided as part of W:DotMM?
Not that I’m aware of - W:DotMM comes with what it was originally printed with. I wouldn’t worry about it.
I've been wanting to make w centaur build and I need a bit of help
have you been by #character-discussion ? they might be able to help
can I get any help with this?
Is one of them from a racial feature?
might be? character is a satyr
if you are a Light Domain Cleric, you get the Light Cantrip as part of the class features. that could be why its always prepared and you can't delete it. Are you a light cleric?
yes! but I'm not sure how I got two of them. on other characters, I don't have the option to delete "always prepared" spells
Can you share a link to your character?
It looks like you’re using a homebrew version of that subclass, which could explain the inconsistencies.
The official subclass would appear like this under Features & Traits:
It’s got book references next to all the feature names. It calculates the number of uses for Warding Flare, and the DC+damage for Radiance of the Dawn.
Yours is missing those things, and incorrectly provides an action for “Preserve Life” instead of “Radiance of the Dawn”.
I’d recommend switching to the official version if you’re able.
And that should hopefully fix the spell issue.
oh! great, thanks!
is there a tutorial on how to use the homebrew tool on dndb? i wanna make a subclass but dont know what goes where and how it will look on the sheet
Check with the folks in #homebrew as some there may have experience with whatever you're trying to accomplish with the homebrew tools.
Hey guys, how can I add a pre-existing/ copy of a character to a campaign?
Use the DnDBeyond campaign invite link located at the top of the campaign page. Open it in a new tab or window and you’ll be prompted to select an existing character or create a new character inside the campaign.
Thanks 👍🏻
Ty
I found a video about the sun blade, wanted to check it on dndbeyond but i am confused about this. The item shows that it 1d8 +3 slashing. But you gain a +2bonus to attack and damage rolls made with it.
Why am i seeing 1d8+3 and 1d10+3
@ornate matrix Is this a question about using D&D Beyond? Or is it a question about game rules?
I think its a bit of both?
Ah, I see you edited the question
The weapon is versatile, meaning you can use it one or two handed. It does more damage when used two-handed, which is the bigger damage dice (1d10+3)
So i suppose i need to come up with a draft first then? Thanks btw
There’s a guide here that walks through the basics.
https://www.dndbeyond.com/posts/845-new-players-guide-how-to-homebrew-on-d-d-beyond
But honestly, the best way to learn is by making homebrew copies of the official subclasses. Then you can peek inside and see exactly how they were set up.
if i want to add an action to my homebrewed weapon how do i do that? (i want to add so that you can use an action so that the sword goes on fire)
and i also need it to roll 2d6 extra fire dmg only when it is on fire. i also need to add a dc to the fire dmg roll how do i do that
You can't, items don't support adding actions
The workaround is to add a custom action directly to the character sheet through the manage actions menu
damn aight
Is anyone having issues accessing personal content on ddb, specifically the character app?
When you say the character app, do you mean the mobile app?
Or the character builder?
The character app, I have issues with both website as well as mobile app
So the character sheet?
yes
I'm able to acess my characters normally without any noticible slowness, both on the website and mobile app. You mentioned "personal content", I assume you just mean things you've made such as characters and not something else?
Correct. I am happy to hear it is working for others, suggesting the issue is somewhere on my network (2 PCs are and 1 cell phone) have the issue
Or even slightly less local, it could be an AWS node in your region or something like that
Interesting, that could be it... damn that slowmode is annoying for a decent conversation
I asked in #homebrew and was directed here, so here goes: I'm trying to work out snippet code that would essentially let me show inside an option, a starting number of 2d6 at level 3, then an additional d6 at 7, 10,15, and 18. {{scalevalue}} doesn't work since it's inside an option. Any way I could make this work? Any snippet code math wizards in here?
I don't think that is possible I'm afraid
In case anyone was wondering, i did figure this out {{2+(classlevel/7)@max:1,rounddown+(classlevel/10)@max:1,rounddown+(classlevel/15)@rounddown+(classlevel/18)@rounddown}}
How do I homebrew a patron for my warlock?
You can create a homebrew subclass here:
https://www.dndbeyond.com/homebrew/creations/create-subclass
It forces me to use fiend as a template
Oh nvm
You can hit "Create From Scratch" instead if you don't want to use a template.
Would I stay in this chat for help with making the subclass itself? Because I'm not really sure about all of this stuff
There’s a guide here that walks through the basics.
https://www.dndbeyond.com/posts/845-new-players-guide-how-to-homebrew-on-d-d-beyond
But honestly, the best way to learn is to create one by selecting a template, if only to peek inside and see how the official one was set up.
But if you have any specific questions, yeah, you're welcome to ask them here or in #homebrew.
Question: I can't add the proficiency bonus to initiative through a subclass feature
Is it not just giving a Proficiency in Initiative?
The template didn't show much
Like there was nothing for the short description or description
Anyone able to help me?
Additionally, any way to add a "rule block" to a description of a subclass? Like this?
This one I can answer - look at the underlying HTML and CSS code that is used to style it and copy that code to your text field (not all fields allow html and styled content). Adjust text content inside to what you need.
...I don't understand what half of that said
Please dumb it down for me...not compooter smart
Open up your browser development tools, find the section of HTML code you're interested in, copy that element's HTML code, paste into your homebrew text field making sure you're in HTML code view (the </> button). Then adjust the text to your needs. Save.
This is somewhat advanced stuff - you may be better off just styling it using the blockquote tool (the button with the double quote marks like this ").
Oh, that's what I was asking for LUL
Oh i just hit a big snag with homebrewing a race. is there anyone who can help me with some racial magic stuff?
Hard to say without knowing what the snag is.
ive made a race of self transforming slime but i want that to come with a limit on the school of magic that they can then learn from. (ie i want a race that cant learn transmutation spells due to physiology)
is there any way to do that?
You could limit any spells chosen as part of the race itself, but not any they’d choose from a class, feat, etc.
Created a magic item, Trying to figure out where to change the Damage it does so it shows correctly under the actions window...
Husband bought Phandelver Below and it says on ddb that he owns and has access to it, but he hasn't actually been able to access it all day. It just takes him to the store page?
It hasn't released yet. We're targeting 7am PT / 9am CT / 10am ET / 3pm BST (UK) for releases.
Ah this makes sense now! We are UK based so we thought it was out. Thanks!
No worries, releases generally happen once the team (who is based in Alabama) is fully online and ready to oversee things
Yo, i preordered shattered obelisk and its telling me to pay 1.99 extra? Any idea why
Where is it telling you to pay this?
In the market on the site, i click a chapter of the book and redirects me to the store page even when ive preordered at 25.75 (preorder and subscriber brought the price down) and kepts redirecting
The book hasn't released yet
And subscribing doesn't give a discount
Can you provide a screenshot of where it's saying you need to pay $1.99?
Mine does the same
I see this same issue
same
Yeah according to discord book released 9 mins ago? Can access some of the items and stuff in the menus like magic items
Where are you seeing that the book released?
As far as I'm aware, the release hasn't occured yet
It's 404ing now, I assume they're just in the middle of releasing it
question... i already bought the Phandelver and Below: The Shattered Obelisk adventure in dnd beyond... why does it say i need to pay 1.99$ (discounted for owned content) still?
Events, in this server, say shattered obelisk on top of mobile menu
That is for the day as a whole, it's not announcing the specific time
My guess it's a 100% discount, but dnd beyond has a minimum charge of 1.99 so it bumps it up to there. I'd just wait a few minutes
In the middle of asking that ourselfs lol
It'll probably resolve itself
I've raised this with the team, but
- The book has not been released yet
- There won't be a need to pay an additional charge to access it
- There'll be an update here once more information can be provided
thank you.
Appreciate all the effort D
I am in the same boat as everyone else. @modest pelican this is just a thank you for being so good about the mass messages of problems and being an absolute champion about it all
Its working now for me guys!
👍 Same here
We should be all set! Sorry for the delay!
When is the release today? and why $1.99?
See response here
#ddb-support message
@spice maple That issue should be resolved, see the comment above yours
Please clear your cache and reload
yay thank you davyd and team
I didn't do anything except act as a messenger, it's all the devs
Thank you!
Same
So, in the home page I see this but when I click I see Rylzrayrth saying 403 - forbidden. Is there something I shouldn't be allowed to see here?
Caching issue with the site
Just cleared my browser cache and still seeing a 403 error.
The site, not your browser
Uhhh, I can’t continue with google on the dndbeyond app??
It keeps telling me to enable tracking
Have you enabled tracking?
Google requires it with how they work.
To expand; google requires tracking to be able to tell D&D Beyond "Hey, this user wants to use our service to log in to your service and I can securely confirm they are logged in so here's the token saying they are who they claim they are"
Tracking means cross-platform communication which is required for two different systems, in this case D&D Beyond and Google, to communicate
good afternoon from south jersey
I cant get to my my digital purchase of the new phandelver book. i bundled it with the hardcover
You've redeemed the code?
where is the redemption code?
It would have been emailed to you when you purchased the digital/physical bundle from dndstore.wizards.com
ty sorry
thank you staff!
Sorry if this is a repeat question, but I just wanted to ask about the 2 Tasha's Sorcerer subclasses, Clockwork Soul and Aberrant Mind. They say that if you want to swap the spells you gain at certain levels out that you can with another Sorcerer, Wizard or Warlock spell of a certain school, but I'm not seeing an option for that in either the character builder or the optional feature manager. Am I missing anything, or do I need to turn on a setting or something to do so? Thank you!
The current solution is to make a homebrew copy of that subclass and change it there.
There's no other official way to do it right now?
But either way, got it, thank you!
I'm afraid not.
All good!
I want to get into dnd, but I have no idea where to start, what to buy, or what to read. I am greener then moss when it comes to dnd. Any kind of advice would help me immensely
You want #dnd-newcomers
This channel is for getting help using the D&D Beyond site, tools and services
Thank you
When I make a mosnter and give it legendary actions it defaults to italics regardless of settings. This extends to the Legendary Action title as well. This this a known bug?
Same goes for mythic actions and bonus actions
hey guys! im still having issues viewing literally any character sheet. I looked it up and apparently this problem happened a long time ago in January of this year as well. Any advice on how to fix it? as a dm, this is extremely frustrating, as I was unaware of this issue before beginning my campaign. Now, neither I, nor my players can access their own character sheets
I'm not sure what would be the fix, but have you tried opening them in a different browser or under incognito mode? I know browser settings can sometimes mess with websites. I had to delete my cache and remove some extensions a while ago to fix dndbeyond not loading right
What happens when you try to view one?
Are you able to view ones outside that campaign?
Can you share a link to one of them?
Can anyone help me create a weapon to represent Shadow Blade? So I don't have to manually roll the attack and damage each time? Or, alternatively, a custom spell that uses dex as the attack and adds dex bonus to dmg?
I made a custom action for my player that uses shadowblade
That was the easiest fix I found.
thank you, that's what I'm giving a shot now
can't make it appear on my list of attacks though :S
You have to click the box that says "display as attack"
custom actions are literally my best friend. I added them to all of my players' sheets and now combat is waaay faster
yeah I'll be using it a lot more
when u have pets and concentration spells and stuff, it's such a pain to jump to different places to try to find the rolls, which half the time don't work properly anyway
I used to make feats, but then realized that the custom actions were 10x easier haha
I made them for my paladin player and that was a godsend
oof I'll bet with all their extra dice
I am not able to view any character sheets unless I create them
It's just a white screen with the dnd beyond banner above it
- Are you running any VPN, Ad-Blocker, or other browser extensions that may interact with the DnDBeyond website and it's functionality? If so, disable them and try again.
- Have you tried clearing your browser cache and cookies, restarting your browser, and re-logging in to DnDBeyond?
- Are you running some 3rd-party antivirus that does packet inspection and is it blocking things on DnDBeyond? Check to make sure it isn't blocking things.
- Open up your browser Web Developer tools and check the network console when refreshing the page - any red error messages?
I had a question about maps. Is it possible to upload your own tokens?
I believe it uses the images associated with the character or monster.
So if you use a custom image for your character on your DnDBeyond character sheet, I believe it uses that for the token.
Uh hi, I'm preparing for my first dnd session and was working on my character, which I decided would be a sort of mimic. I obviously needed to homebrew this, which I've done but now that I've finished, I can't find an option to make a character using it?
Im sorry if it's a stupid question but where do I go on the dnd beyond website to do that if I can?
Changeling is an official race that might be close to what you're looking for
You likely don't own it
If you navigate to the Mordenkainen Presents: Monsters of the Multiverse in the marketplace, you can buy the race individually without having to buy the whole book if you like
I've got an encounter that is bugged out and I can't delete. I've deleted every other encounter and it still shows up. Any suggestions? I've tried running it, adding monsters to it, editing, deleting.. Always shows up when I reload.
Make sure the encounter is named.
If it still can't be deleted, you may need to create a customer service ticket to have it deleted from the backend.
Yeah - or check the pinned message here in the channel
thanks
A couple of the new phandelver monsters are showing as unowned in the encounter builder. Entitlements in sync, relogged in incognito so no extensions and cleared cache.
Also seen some magic items unavailable on character sheets. (mind crystals)
I do own the book and the monster stat block page itself loads fine as do the item pages themselves.
it might actually just be those 2. Clicking through a few more it seems every other one ive looked at is working
Are there checkmarks on this page next to those monsters/items?
https://www.dndbeyond.com/marketplace/adventures/phandelver-and-below-the-shattered-obelisk
yes there is - shows everything owned and checked.
if it helps isReleased shows up false for those two monsters when I go here (direct link to search json data for each monster). And other data that would fill out a stat block shows the basic non-owned empty data.
https://monster-service.dndbeyond.com/v1/Monster?skip=0&take=1&search=goblin-psi-commander
and
https://monster-service.dndbeyond.com/v1/Monster?skip=0&take=1&search=goblin-psi-brawler
All others I looked at show true there and have the stat block data.
How do I change my subscription status? I am currently Hero tier but want to try out maps... when I go to the subscription page it displays as if I am not logged in though.
Yeah, that's just a display bug, you're still logged in.
Oh great thanks. I was getting very confused! Appreciate the clarification
is there a way to change the character sheet to show spell points rather than spell slots?
There isn't currently
You could make a custom feat based on the lucky feat to provide a way of tracking spell points
thank you, i just customed my player's focus to have charges = to points 🙂
That's a very clever solution!
hey Davyd, some people have pointed out on the forums that the bracers of celerity and mind crystals are not showing up in the inventory manager on the character sheet, can you pass this on to the devs?
Thanks. Any chance I can get your DDB username as well?
Did you purchase the book yourself, or is it being shared with you? Can I get your DDB username as well?
how do you make a summon as a subclass feature
That depends. What does the feature say?
Best general advice I've got is to find an official subclass with a summon that works similarly to yours. Then you can make a homebrew copy of it and see how it was set up.
circle of wildfire but i don’t have tashas purchased
but like how do you show the wildfire spirit stats inside of the subclass creator
That action uses Limited Use to track the HP for the spirit, and snippets to calculate specific stats.
And then the full stat block is in the Description, so if you click the action on your sheet, you can see the full details.
yes i have bougth the book myself, all of the other items are showing inside the character sheet, just these two that are not
my username is Depul on the website
Jay_Lane is the display name, Azmoria the username in profile but I think that's just the socials line
these are all PHB and BR spells correct? My homebrew is saying it's using licensed content, but these are the only linked things in the document besides the poisoned condition.
They have to be Basic Rules only. A spell that's in the PHB but not the Basic Rules, like Hex, will still give that error.
That said: the errors only matter if you're trying to publish this to the global community, after it's been finished and playtested and works as intended.
If this is just for your own campaigns, it's already usable as-is. You don't need to publish at all, and you can just ignore those warnings.
Can you check those monsters again?
Are those items showing up now?
nope, neither are the monsters, i have the same problem as @quaint herald
sorry wrong item
Does it still say here that your entitlements are in sync?
https://www.dndbeyond.com/account/marketplace
And still no monsters either?
yeah, both of the psi goblins
i can access outside the encounters
and the items outside the character sheet
Hi all! I’m starting to homebrew a campaign and need help making a race.
I want to add a spell to the race but give the PC a choice out of two class list. The problem is I only want them to choose 1
i have them now, both items and monsters
thanks for the help
You can give them a choice by adding Options.
Set up each choice as its own Option.
Then inside each Option, set it up with whatever that choice needs to do its thing.
In this case: give them a spell from that class list.
I put it in as a racial trait. Just so I get what you mean. So when I add spells, I set it to cleric spell list( cantrips). Then I add another spelland set it for the wizard spell list. That will give my PC the option to take 1 spell out of both lists is what I’m aiming for
1 spell total *
Leeeets back up.
The player gets to choose only a single spell from either the cleric or wizard spell lists?
What's the actual text description for this feature?
At Level 1, choose a cantrip from the Cleric or Wizard spell list to have prepared. This does not count towards your total allowed prepared spells. At Level 5, learn a Level 1 spell from Cleric or Wizard spell list that can be can cast once per short rest for free. After that, it will cost a spell slot
What's the spellcasting ability?
The feedback page for the maps feature is broken
I’d like them to use their Spell casting Mod if possible. If not I’d use INT
they are showing up in the encounter builder for me now yes. 😄 Thank you
It won’t have a way to detect their spellcasting mod, but you could give them a choice between the three (again, using Options).
If you just want to stick with INT, click Add a Spell, and under “Class”, type both Cleric and Wizard.
Add any other details like the spellcasting mod, and you’re done.
If you want to do Options instead, you’ll need to set one up for each spellcasting ability. Inside there, you’ll Add a Spell following the instructions above, but set it to match the chosen ability. Then rinse and repeat.
I manually added shield proficiency to my character and can't seem to remove it. Is there a fix? (I could try creating a custom feat that adds shield proficiency, then remove the feat after it has overridden the manual/custom entry)
What happens when you try to remove it?
No option to try to remove it shows up when I click on it
Nevermind. I had the tab open on my laptop, and due to the small screen size, part of the UI was hidden. My mistake.
It has gotten worse somehow. I now can’t select a spell from the list when I try to build a character? It is also still giving me two options 1 from each list.
Can you share a screenshot of your current setup?
Hello, not sure if this is the right channel to ask about this, if I pre-order both the deck of many things and Planescape simultaneously will I receive them when the later book releases or receive them seperately ?
Separately
thanks
Hey, on the subscriber perks page, it says Master tier subscribers can get 10 GB of storage. What does this mean?
quick ( hopefully ) question, how do we get our stat blocks back to the left side of page
how do I add a boon on d&db
You'd have to homebrew a feat to stand in for that, epic boons aren't officially implemented yet
ty
With the new Maps tool, Master Tier subscribers get 10 GB of storage for uploading their own maps (maps not provided by DnDBeyond). Of course copyright laws apply - only upload maps you have permission to use.
So I purchased the map pack, and i have 3 campaigns with maps inside, but in a campaign manager i cannot load any of the maps purchased in, have i done something wrong?
Currently to my knowledge that map pack is just the downloadable image files. Online map functionality only just launched in Alpha the other day, so those likely aren't currently automatically plugged in. There is a function that will still allow you to upload and use the images in Maps though
ty
No problem! Let me know if you have any trouble.
Can I log into my dnd beyond account with my discord login?
Like it allows me to link my discord account, but what does that do?
I made a mistake and signed out, and my school email is connected to it and for some reason it’s now blocked by my administrator.
and the only other link I have for it is my discord
I really need help
No - DnDBeyond only uses Google, Apple, Twitch, and Wizards of the Coast accounts to handle login/authentication. If you have one of these accounts though, please reach out to customer service (see pinned message here in the channel) and they may be able to reassign your account to an up to date and not-blocked account.
Really? You think they’d be able to do that for me?
If you can show proof that you use to own the previous account, yes, they should be able to reassign it to a functional Google/Apple/Twitch/Wizards of the Coast account.
How could find proof, like what would count as proof?
If your Discord account is still connected to it you could use that.
I think - you'd have to ask customer service
Are there any workarounds to having both a full character portrait and a head shot on ddb?
No, there's no way to have larger images uploaded than the avatar
So it seems I might be either having a dumb moment or there's something that's not making sense for me. I'm playing a fighter and wanted to see how a build would play out.
At lvl 1 I picked superior technique and then at level 4 I chose the feat of martial adept to give myself two choices of maneuvers. I thought superior technique gave me a maneuver as well? Although I only got to choose 2 instead of 3. And on top of that when I view my character sheet it only lists one box for a superiority die.
This channel is for getting technical support for DnDBeyond's tools and services. I think your question would best fit in #character-discussion as it's less about the DDB tools/services and more of how a class feature works.
The fighting style superior technique doesn’t give you an option the choose a fighting style on dndbeyond
I’ve found a work around, go to the dndbeyond webpage and create a homebrew feat copying the martial adept feat, Edit the name to Superior Technique, then change the language in the feat to say "one maneuver" instead of "two maneuvers". Finally, change the "TOTAL NUMBER OF FEAT OPTIONS USER CAN SELECT" to 1, then save.
You can then add this to your PC on the feats tab on your character sheet and choose the fighting style you need
yeah but superior technique is a fighting style
It’s a known bug and they haven’t figured out a way to do it yet
Ah gotcha! Yeah this is a current limitation of DnDBeyond.
I’ve made the custome feat here to show
Hm I see. I guess I'll just have to communicate this with a DM then so I can be allowed to possibly use it like this
Did not expect this to be a bug, but oh well
You also only get one dice from martial adept so that is showing fine for you
Possibly the wrong channel, but does the Maps alpha have integrated audio & video or is that still being developed?
It somehow slipped my radar 🙄
And I'd like to try it out for my next game.
I assume you mean for voice/video chat, in which case no it doesn't have that and that's not mentioned on the roadmap
A common option is Discord, which integrates with the gamelog via Avrae
Oof. Yeah that's what I figured.
Not entirely a problem, except for those occasions where you gotta herd people who haven't used discord before onto Discord 🤣
Will sales affect pre-orders ever again?
Impossible to say
😦
Thanks for the help Davyd! ❤️
Hey all. I’m trying to make a homebrew race and give them spells to pick from at Level 1. I’ve made a racial feat but when creating the character I’m not getting access to the spells
Specifically I want them to choose from the wizard or warlock cantrips and at Level 5 choose a level 1 spell from these lists
New iPhone and wanting to log in to the app using "Continue with Google" I get a message saying "Tracking":
"To log in with google, you agree to their privacy policy and must allow tracking"
Where do I enable this tracking?
Oh, this is the same as the previous person posted 😄
I had this problem too and I ultimately had to make a wizards account, link it to my DNDBeyond account via a web browser, and then sign in with that on mobile.
Thanks.
How is the linking via web browser done? Is that by logging in to the wizards account in a web browser, and then finding some linking button under settings or similar?
When I try to create a new Wizards account it says "Invalid email address or password.".
Do I need to create a Wizard account using a different email address since my Google login email address is already used?
For the Google/Apple/Twitch login you need to allow tracking as those services need to track who you are and pass that information to DnDBeyond.
As for a wizards account and an existing DnDBeyond account you need to login with the existing account and under your user profile, you can connect it to your Wizards account. You should then be able to login using the wizards account.
How do I transfer subclasses like Eldritch Knight into dnd beyond via homebrew?
You can create a homebrew subclass here:
https://www.dndbeyond.com/homebrew/creations/create-subclass
(Alternatively, you can purchase just that subclass. Whatever you spend gets credited toward the cost of the book itself, too.)
Too expensive.
Make sure you're looking at the right options. Subclasses are $1.99 each
There are subclass bundles, which are more expensive, and also the compendium option which is $19.99 but doesn't include content for the character builder. It's just the digital version of the book
Still a lot
No, sorry, I think you misunderstand, the subclasses are $1.99 each, not $19.99. Sorry for confusing things
Also, I moreso meant that I would literally recreate the class in homebrew instead of just making my own
Yeah
I just don't wanna buy anything, since for me doing digital purchases is kinda a pain
And again, its kinda pricey
But also, I know transfering something into homebrew is gonna be a pain so I was wondering if anyone had some type of guide I could use
Is there a way to add the Steel Defender from a Battle Smith Artificer to the character sheet? When I look in extras it doesn't show Steel Defender as an option.
The steel defender is baked into the class features section
That way more of the defenders features can be displayed correctly
I didnt know that. I will let my player know as well. Thank you
Is there a way to homebrew an infusion for a subclass to use
Not as an infusion itself, but there may be a workaround.
What’s the text description for this infusion?
I was thinking about having the artifcer be able to infuse their teammates or their own armor to increase the speed at which it performs. Like boots would double speed, arms would give advantage and ect
Work in progress but before I started I wanted to know if I had the capability to implement it
Probably the closest you could get, then, is a homebrew feat with the description.
Damn
Then just leave one of your invocations unselected.
I'm making a subclass for others In a community to use
You can click on your speed to manually adjust it as needed.
It's a Clockwork Architect Artificer
Trying to create a custom feat that allows the players to select two skills to be proficient in and a new language
I have been able to figure out the skills but not the language
Does anyone know where a good place I can buy metal dice at?
The #ddb-support answer is that you can buy dice here: https://www.dndbeyond.com/marketplace/digital-dice
But if you meant that question in a different way, #merch-and-dice is probably a better place to ask.
I would suggest to make a copy of the Linguist feat from the players handbook so you can see how that does it.
But it looks like its Modifier type (Language) and on the sub type line pick "Choose a Language"
got it figured out by signing into wizards then linking it
if anybody on the ddb support team is for some ungodly reason reading this, thank you for the help with that situation with the whole accidental linking thing before it got figured out
Is it possible to create a homebrew/custom container?
I don't believe it's possible at this time (logic for nesting containers and what they contain is hard to pull of in a good and performant way)
When you add a spell through a homebrew feat, it doesn't show up in the spell list and can't be prepared. However, if you add it through a custom/homebrew background, it shows up together with the other spells in the class section of the character creator.
I don't expect this to change, but it would be nice if it did, at least as an optional use-case where spells added through a feat aren't intended to be used at will with a limited number of uses.
I usually just add an existing container and rename it.
And it’s definitely possible to have feat spells show up in the Spells tab.
Then my question is... how do I do that?
Honestly, I’m more surprised that yours aren’t already.
I’d suggest making a homebrew copy of a feat like Magic Initiate. Then you can peek inside and see exactly how it was set up.
These feats were copied from Magic Initiate
I created feats that allow me to add spells from ANY class to my wizard. One for cantrips, one for lvl 1 spells, one for lvl 2-3 spells, and one for lvl 4-5 spells. Couldn't get the prerequisite function to make a homebrew feat require another homebrew feat, but that isn't really a problem as the text is still there saying it is required.
I have a test character up and running. I get the spells in the character sheet, but not in the character builder -> class -> Spells menu. If I add the spells through a homebrew background I do get the spells showing up in that menu.
The spells work as intended. They can be cast with any available slot, instead of being limited. This is intended to be used in a homebrew campaign where we will be able to train for feats. It will be bothersome to keep track of which of these spells are on my prepared list as they always show up on the character sheet.
Ah, now I gotcha.
To do it that way, you’d need a homebrew background, subclass, or race.
TIL you can customize items with a capacity weight override
Did the price of the Planescape Digital + Physical bundle change ?
the dndstore Europe homepage shows that it's €114.99 but then the cart shows it as €84.99 but I proceed to checkout it goes back to €114.99
I'm afraid we can't help with that as the bundle isn't sold through D&D Beyond
You'd need to contact customer service through the links provided on dndstore.wizards.com
thank you
sorry I can't be more help
it's okay, can't help with everything
so im looking at downloading D&D beyond on to my tablet and im slightly concerned if it will work as it only has 2gb of ram and is running on android 8.1
i think it could possibly a pre-order discount? don't quote me on it but it is a possibility
can anyone help me with how to create a custom vehicle?
I mean, with a stat block like the various ships in Saltmarsh
D&D Beyond doesn't support homebrew vehicles at this time
ok, thank you
Is there a list of tags you can use in the text editors when created homebrew stuff: like descriptions, etc. And with tags I mean things like [spell] [\spell]? It would seep that [spell] isn't one of them.
D&D Beyond offers the ability to link certain aspects on the forum in mouse-over triggered tooltips, such as magic items, monsters or combat actions - ex...
@lyric leaf That character has ten spells that are set as Always Prepared.
Add the normal 13 a level 10, WIS +3 Cleric, and that’s 23.
How does that happen?
She's a halfling cleric with a Life domain. Don't know where the "Always Prepared" status comes from.
Ah, those are just your Life Domain spells.
Each domain has a list of spells — its domain spells — that you gain at the cleric levels noted in the domain description. Once you gain a domain spell, you always have it prepared, and it doesn’t count against the number of spells you can prepare each day.
You can view the list of spells in the subclass itself:
https://www.dndbeyond.com/classes/cleric#LifeDomain
So, Domain spells are freebies that don't count against your regualr Prepared limit. I must not have specified a domain for my other NPC cleric.
Okay, thank you. I figured the error was all mine. Like I said, I rarely have to deal with clerics in my campaign, so I was not tuned in to this. Thanks!
Sometimes, DDB wont load some images for me. Example:
I disabled all DDB specific browser extensions and forced a refresh without cache already. Browser is Opera (current version)
doesnt load background and character portrait in this case
I am having a problem where it wont let me pull up purchased content ive already bought. I have a subcription till next year
Not using VPN or have a thirdparty antivirus tool? Sometimes those can interfere (and I know one of the Opera browser versions has a built in VPN tool).
Go to your DnDBeyond user profile and make sure your entitlements are in sync.
This place: https://www.dndbeyond.com/account/marketplace
Subscriptions shouldn't touch anything that you've bought.
I believe they took BG out of the players bundle?
I dont have a VPN activated and I just checked the site with my antivirus deactivated. no change.
Can you open up your browser dev tools and check the console after refreshing the page? Any red error messages?
My hunch is that one of the services DnDBeyond uses - at least in your region - is not working as expected.
I got a lot of
Failed to load resource: net::ERR_BLOCKED_BY_ADBLOCKER
but I dont have any adblocker enabled on the site
oh and this Failed to load resource: the server responded with a status of 400 ()
i think that is the background
Does your ISP do any adblocking services?
That is pretty weird
Particularly if you're not using an Adblocker
Or... does your internet router have any adblocking tools in place?
let me check. I think I just got a normal firewall
Also is this a recent issue? Has there been any changes of how you access DnDBeyond? Or with your ISP or network setup?
its been going on for a few weeks at least
soo, I open the same page in firefox and dont have the issue, I dont think its an ISP or router problem
So that sounds like something Opera is doing then
are you sure Opera's VPN thingy is not on?
yep, just double checked
Because the behavior you're seeing really does suggest adblocking or VPN-like behavior
Okay welp...
Firefox works, Opera does not
Might want to double check all the Opera settings and see if something there is impacting things - like blocking 3rd-party cookies
Maybe - if it's sending the traffic through some other service or whatever that can definitely impact things.
hmm, changing it didnt do anything
Okay I'd reset it back to it's native state then.
I'm making a wood half-elf and I can't find anything on the racial page to choose my profs for skill versatility?
I only have the Tasha's options but I don't want them
and I already unchecked the optional origin manager but my sheets still only provides options for the optional origin manager
hmm deleting cookies worked.
A wood half-elf with skill versatility is mechanically just a regular half-elf. Select that for your race instead.
Narratively, you can describe it however you like.
It makes more sense with the context of the actual rule here.
Wood half-elf doesn’t exist in the book itself as a distinct race.
Some half-elves in Faerûn have a racial trait in place of the Skill Versatility trait. If your DM allows it, your half-elf character can forgo Skill Versatility and instead take a trait based on your elf parentage:
- A half-elf of wood elf descent can choose the wood elf’s Elf Weapon Training, Fleet of Foot, or Mask of the Wild.

thanks
How do I add a spot for the charges of something? (In this case, a Custom Feature)
- Add an Action.
- Give it a Reset Type.
- Save it and edit it again.
- Look for the Limited Use section at the bottom of the page.
I just subscribed to DDB, with my master level subscription, am I able to let my players access all character stuff on their accounts?
as long as they are in the same campaign as you, they should be able to access everything you have and you have content sharing enabled
Cool, thanks. I'm still exploring the site. But as long as I know it's possible, I'll figure it out :-)>
if you need any help dont hesitate to reach out

Any character options owned by anyone in the campaign will be shared with the whole group. Shared character options are only available to characters in the campaign that’s sharing them.
We’re having to reconnect bro the server each round to roll dice on our character sheets.
Ive been using the new maps tool, but its not letting me place tokens for certain monsters, despite me having access to those books. is anyone else having that issue
Hi sorry to the mod that was helping me and asked me for a screen shot for my issue. But I need help making a custom race
I want to have my custom race get spells to choose from at first level and 5th level but they don’t come up in the character creation page.
Is there a way to add a silvered sword to my inventory?
Can anybody help me figure out why the spells won’t populate? This is the character creation screen where I have a class at Level 1 selected
It should have a drop down to pick from two different spell lists
Click on the sword in your inventory
Click customize.
Then click the silvered option check mark.
what level would players normally fight a challenge 26 enemy?
This channel is for getting technical support with DnDBeyond tools and services - your question would be better suited for #dm-discussion
Can you explain a little more? Not sure what you mean there.
Can you name a specific monster, as an example? What happens when you try to add the token exactly?
There is no option in the class page or when I “finish” the character it won’t let me add spells
