I've been having trouble with dnd beyond the last few days. Whenever I try to respond to a post in the forums, the editor says that it's loading and never stops. The same is true when I try to create a thread, or even try to type in the homebrew editor. Does anyone know how to fix this problem? Thanks! (If you respond to this, please @ me or do a reply and leave @ on.)

Do you get the same issue in another browser, or on another device?
Another browser, yes, another device, no.
Are you using a VPN, or any kind of security software like Kaspersky?
The only security software I use is Norton 360.
Does it work if that’s disabled?
If I subscribe at Hero tier and later switch to Master later will my already payed remaining amount carry over?
Essentially, yes. The amount you pay to upgrade would be prorated.
Good because currently I don't need the sharing option as i don't DM but that might change in future 🙂
FWIW, anyone in a campaign can get a Master Tier subscription and enable Content Sharing for a campaign -- it doesn't have to be the DM.
And once it's enabled, everyone's purchased game content gets shared -- not just the DM's or the subscriber's.
😮
Quick question
Is it possible to unshare or delete something that you submitted and shared on ddb?
In terms of homebrew
Nope, as stated in the homebrew rules and guidelines
No, I still have the same problem.
Right, got it
hey so, in the Encounter Builder, is there a way to add a monster with a statblock as an ally of the player characters?
Not currently
But you can vote for that here:

So I am making a homebrew race and they have spells that they naturally know and I made a spell list for it, but instead of it giving the spells it is making me chose during character creation
Like the race knows both, but beyond is making it a choice instead
Add them as separate Spell entries.
I.E. click “Add a Spell” twice.
If you list both spells in the same entry, it will prompt the user to choose between them.
(Note also that homebrew edits can sometimes take up to 15 minutes before they show up on your character sheet.)
Ah. Alright. Thanks
So I wanted to add an optional spell from tasha's to my character, I toggled optional class features, but the spell isn't showing up as a possible one to learn, what am I doing wrong?
Did you also opt in to that specific feature?
You need to first toggle on Optional Class Features in your character settings, then go to the Class Tab, click Optional Feature Manager, and enable the specific feature(s) you want to opt in to.
Hey I'm trying to make a race with innate spellcasting much like the Fire Genasi, how do I make this work in dndbeyonds homebrew system? Do i add a spell or use the spell list option?
My main question is how may i make the player choose which ability score the spell uses?
i need help with making a character for me and my friends because it is our first time is there any guides on the website i missed
https://www.dndbeyond.com/posts/724-new-players-guide-making-your-first-character This sould help you out :)

Hello, I had a question: Is it possible to setup an off-hand weapon to my character?
click the weapon. click the Dual Wield checkbox.
I don't find this option 😦
Right there. 🙂
Thanks! But I see that with my Whip, I cannot check this option. Do you know why?
I don't know. Can't think of any reason why it shouldn't be there.
Could be that DDB is limiting that option if you don't have the Dual Wielding feat.
I can check this option in a Dagger instead of a Whip. But thanks for the advice!
You can't use two-weapon fighting with a Whip, it doesn't have the Light property. You'd need the Dual Wielder feat to enable two-weapon fighting with weapons that don't have the light property.
how to dual wielde a light hammer
Yes.
but how
Yes, that's how.
Click on one of the weapons, open the Customize section in the sidebar, and check the “Dual Wield” box, as shown in the image above.
i found out
Hey, I have a question for you guys, regarding one of my campaign members: he logged in on the website 2 days ago, and all of the inventory objects had disappeared mysteriously. Now, before opening a support ticket, did this ever happen to you? Any advice?
I have not seen that before but make sure to disable any browser extensions that interact with DnDBeyond are disabled (Beyond20, AboveVTT, etc.). Potentially those extensions could do something to the data.
Oh my gosh, thank you! I didn't know about that second step.
thank you for the help, will try to do that!
In case I don't manage to solve the issue, should I open a ticket with support?
Yeah report it - particularly if you can reproduce it.
not sure about that, I'll see! thanks for the advice!
Trying to find the stat sheet for the Giant Flying Spider on DnD beyond. It's part of the Waterdeep: Dungeon of the Mad Mage, but not available to purchase in the monster section that I can see.
Wanting to get it to add it as a summon for my druid.
Where is it in Dungeon of the Mad Mage?
Ah, I've found them
They don't have dedicated stat blocks, they're just giant spiders with a 40 foot fly speed
Hi All, I’ve purchased 2 brand new copies of the 5e DMG and Candlekeep Mysteries. I cannot redeem the product keys. Why might this be?
What product keys are you referring to?
The redeem keys function on the website requests product keys. So that you may get digital copies with the hard copies. This was the case for my Icespire Peak.
That only applies to the Essentials Kit. No other books come with product keys
The redeem key option is primarily for redeeming gift codes that other people have purchased and given to you
@steel granite I hope that clarifies things?
Hi yes. That’s pretty unfortunate. It will definitely curb my hard copy purchases which is sad because I like to support board game stores.
Really newb Q: How in DDB do I add spells that I am learning from a NPC Spellbook?
I assume you’re a wizard.
On the Spells tab, click Manage Spells, and then select Add Spells in the sidebar.
Cheers...
It seems Cantrips are not something you can leanr above the prepped limit. Thats where I was struggling before
The rules don’t normally allow a wizard to copy found cantrips into their book.
So to do that, you’ll have to use the homebrew system.
If I want to use the Eye and the hand of Vecna do I have to attune to both using the single Items or do I use the Eye and hand of Vecna to gain those benefits?
Because neither seem to give me the Truesight.
Please @ if you answer as I might overlook it
i was in here yesterday asking about how to start a campaign and i am here with another question, can i do the campaign on dnd beyond or is that something i would have to do somewhere else
what i am trying to say is, is there a virtual way of doing the campaign on dnd beyond
@dawn wolf You can create a campaign sort of portal on DDB but there’s no virtual table top function. Many online games use it for character sheets and sometimes dice rolls. Roll20 and Foundry VTT are common sites for virtual table tops
ok thank you
The Encounter Builder does a good job if you just want/need the numbers but not the visuals of a VTT
manual feat management on the character sheet.
Specifically, Martial Adept.
how can I add the maneuver choices to the character?
EDIT: found it, thanks!\
There is also a simple virtual tabletop app called owlbear rodeo. Easy to use, import maps and tokens, fog of war _ and it is free.
We use a combo of DnD Beyond, Discord for voice and owlbear for maps.
That may be a technical limitation. Normally senses have a specified range, but this one does not.
You can manually add Truesight to your sheet, though. Just click the gear next to Senses, open the Customize menu in the sidebar, and enter a range there for Truesight.
So I have a question about dnd beyond trying to add draconic spirit to my extras. Is that possible?
The Extras tab won't be able to account for spell level.
But you could create it as a homebrew statblock and add it in, yeah.
I'm trying to create a soul reaper race, and I want them to have the racial trait to activate there sword forms, when the sword forms are active I wanted it to grant me access to new abilities and get rid of the previous sword forms abilities, Shekai to Bankai like rage for instance, but I'm struggling to find a way to do this and don't know if it is possible, can it be done? and how?
There isn't really a way to do temporary effects like that.
You could use Options to represent each state (active and inactive), but you'd have to go back into the character builder to change your selection.
Alternatively, you can use homebrew magic items as a workaround. Equip it to add its benefits, and unequip to remove them.
I see, thank you, i'll mess around with it a bit and see what works for me!
Are you no longer able to buy races and sub races individually? I’ve been searching but can’t see that option
You can, but some might not be available
What are you looking for?
Stuff from Mordenkainen's Tome of Foes is now legacy and no longer for sale.
So you'd have to buy the Mordenkainen's Monsters of the Multiverse versions instead.
If you tell me the race I can post the link to that content.
The question is more how do I go about doing so without purchasing an entire sourcebook. I don’t see how on the website
Head to the D&D Beyond marketplace and select the book it's in - then scroll down that page and you'll see all of the individual content from the book available
Did Sidekicks move somewhere? I think I remember being able to find them in the Monsters search, but now I'm only seeing level 1 of each sidekick class. I checked my filters, and I own Tasha's. Am I missing something?
@merry prism unfortunately because their all currently shared with me by one of my DMs I see the content anyways but because it’s shared and not purchased it’s not in my build a character options
They’re*
No, go here, not on the source book listing. You need to go to the marketplace
https://www.dndbeyond.com/marketplace
Click on the book from there and you can buy things even if the book is being shared by someone.
@opal pelican thank you! that was what i was doing wrong!
No problem.
Ok I will do that thanks 😊
The ones in the Monsters listing are the original version of sidekicks from DoIP. The updated versions in Tasha's do not have standalone statblocks.
Hello I noticed my Character sheets on beyond have the background really big and barely visible. My wife and friends all show most of the background. Do I have a setting off I don't know about or is there a reason for this? I thought everyones looked like this till I saw my wifes sheet.
The backdrops resize based on window size. I know I have issues when maximizing a window on my main screen, as it zooms in. I'd recommend try resizing the browser window as there may be window size points where it adjusts.
Hi, I'd like to bring up a problem that I mentioned a few days ago, because after I was asked a few questions I didn't get another response. Whenever I go to the forums on dnd beyond, the editor loads indefinitely, and I am unable to type. This is also true in direct messages and the homebrew creator. Going to a different device works, a different browser does not. I tried turning off my security software and the problem was not fixed.
Hello what does "opt-in" mean in the looking for dm chat?
Means you allow DMs to contact you with paid games.
Did you clear your cache?
This would be a local browser issue - sometimes clearing cache/cookies will resolve this. Othertimes it is a browser extension or security program that is causing the issue
Thank you!
Ok, I’ll try clearing my cache when I get on my computer. Thanks for the help!
I'm having some issues creating a homebrewed item and getting it to work properly. Could I receive some assistance please.
What kind of issues? In what way does it not work properly?
I was having issues having the magic bonus apply to hit and damage, but figured out that was turning on the attunement. The other issue I had was having weapons with extra damage, i.e. 2d6 fire damage, roll with the normal weapon damage. But I can see the app doesn't support that feature yet. Unless I'm mistaken
It doesn’t yet support rolling multiple damage types at once, no.
Thank you. I just created a custom command. Works the same.
how does one buy a single option from a book? say i wanted to get the Samurai subclass from Xanathar's
Go here: https://www.dndbeyond.com/marketplace/sourcebooks/xanathars-guide-to-everything
Then just add the subclass of your choice to your cart.
thanks for helpin
If you scroll down the option should be there
quick question, is it possible for an already published homebrew to be taken down because of violation of existing guidelines?
The moderation team will remove homebrew content if it violates homebrew rules & guidelines, yes
Additionally, a user may be warned and/or infracted depending on the violation
how can I contact moderation to point them at some specific content that violates certain guidelines? there are quite a few things that I published that all violate a specific guideline that I didn't notice was there when I went through them
There is a report button on homebrew
alright, thanks for the help
Please note, using the report feature to get homebrew removed as an attempt to circumvent the rules on publishing homebrew is a rules violation itself
circumvent the rules on publishing?
The rules and guidelines on publishing homebrew state that once it's been published, a homebrew item cannot be unpublished. Using the report feature to try and circumvent this (including but not limited intentionally publishing an updated version to violate rules) is not permitted
got it
one last question, what would be the right "reason" to pick when reporting for the reason stated above?
It would be whatever reason applies and if none does, use the 'other' option and specify
the specific guideline that was violated is "Please do not submit homebrew that is only designed for personal campaigns. This includes descriptive references to specific PCs/NPCs, as well as places and events."
and also the "Please do not submit variations of the same submission to public homebrew. For example, you do not need to submit a magic item that deals thunder damage, then submit another that deals fire damage, and so on."
That rule only applies to homebrew that clearly applies/is only usable in personal campaigns
But if a specific report option does not cover the issue, you can use the 'other' option and provide additional information in the text box
Am I able to unlock just certain things from source books? Like, I want the 'Undead warlock Patron' but not the entire book?
Yep, just go to the first book it was published in* and scroll down. There you'll find all the individual purchase options
*Artificer is an exception and was moved to Tasha's from the Ebberon book
thank you
is there a way to actually 'equip' or 'use' the mutagens for the bloodhunter order of the mutant. I'm having some weirdness of having to permanently change values and add/remove disadvantages for certain skills etc manually.
You'd have to do like homebrew items or something.
Yeah, there's not really a way to do temporary effects, but homebrew items are a common workaround.
Equip the item to start the effect, and unequip to end it.
interesting. that might be a good solution i'll try that. thanks
Creating mutagens as items as suggested seems to work perfectly!.
Just made each of them a bunch of rings that don't require attunement and only have to remember to un-equip after rests etc.
Now that i've said that..... I can't figure out a way to add in some of the effects. Namely Disadvantage on Initiative rolls, and an additional use of a class feature (blood maledict). If there is a way to do so, I'd greatly appreciate any advice.
Adding 'disadvantage on dex checks' doesn't seem to affect initiative rolls for some reason.
Right click on the roll button (or the touch screen version of right click) and select Advantage or Disadvantage for the roll
^^touchscreen version of right click is USUALLY a long press
I agree that there are ways around particular effects, I was looking for a way to have it ''built in''. Which you are able to do with pretty much every other skill check, just not initiative.
Maybe I'm just not good enough about how to create items, but I could not for the life of me figure out how to add an additional use of a class feature (in this case blood maledict, but could just have easily been wild shape or rage or fury of the small or any other class/racial feature).
As part of the problem I've been having is specifically remembering how many times per rest I've used certain abilities. And although I could just use the ability without ticking the 'use' box. The prob was in if i didn't use it, remembering that I had done so.
Generally speaking, the homebrew system is built to facilitate the official rules.
If there’s not an official feature that grants disadvantage on initiative checks, that may not be possible.
I can say for sure it’s not possible to change the charges for any class features, though.
Bummer, as that was the original intent for my question, but I guess I'll just have to continue to brute force/remember stuff 😛
at least for Celerity (the main one i've ended up using) it's worked a treat 🙂
Hey, just wondering if there's something I'm not really understanding.
So, I have a Monk with the Barrier Tattoo (uncommon) magic item. The tattoo is supposed to give me a base AC of 12 while unarmored. But when I put it on and attune to it, I don't seem to be gaining any AC from it.
My AC is 16 without armor and it's still 16 with the Barrier Tattoo. Is the item broken or is it conflicting with my unarmored defense feature?
it's conflicting with your unarmored defense.
you only get one AC calc active, and since they're both identical, there's no change
I see. That's kinda lame. But oh well. Thanks for letting me know.
them's the rules as written.
Is there currently a problem with DNDB's servers? I'm getting an error trying to access most pages
probably maintenance time
are the ddb servers down?
@jolly yoke There is zero need to ping the entire moderation team

Neut is correct, this is most likely the daily server maintenance window, which occurs around this time each day
(sorry)
Thank you for clarifying, Davyd
Obviously if the downtime persists longer than expected, it'll be raised as an issue
how long is it usually?
It's all based on how much stuff actually needs maintaining/cleaning up
@fervent fern@wispy needle@jolly yoke can you try loading the site now? Seems to be fine for me
All set
No worries, while DDB uses their metrics to determine the least disruptive time for maintenance, it's impossible for it not to disrupt someone. Thanks for bearing with us
That said, our maintenance period should be as non-disruptive as possible, so we'll definitely take a look at what happened this morning
The server reset is meant to be rolling - so you arent meant to see anything more than maybe an extra second of loading as you roll to the next one... occasionally it... rolls Nat 1s 😛
Does anyone know if the combat tracker in D&D Beyond is viewable by the players and not just the DM
There isn't currently a player view.

Is there a way while creating a custom action to give it a fixed attack bonus?
Like not based on a stat?
My Blooming Blade cantrip, Burning Hands spell, and Ray of Sickness spell are not showing in my actions tab. Anyway to fix this?
They're spells, so they'll be in the spell tab
@crystal scarab yes but spells that can be used as actions should show in the actions tab. One cantrip and one spell of mine are in actions just not all. That is the confusion
By default, only spells with attack rolls show on the Actions tab.
*and only attack rolls
Ray of Sickness is accompanied by a save, in addition to its attack roll
But you can click on a spell, open the Customize menu in the sidebar, and check/uncheck Display as Attack to change that.
@uneven lantern it doesn’t look like that option is available unfortunately.
@uneven lantern just shows options to edit number counts
Never mind burning hands and absorb elements work like that, blooming blade specifically just doesn’t give that option
Huh. Yeah, I’m seeing the same on my end. 🤔
I can pass that along to the team to double-check.
Booming Blade the attack is made with the weapon, not the spell
Maybe that's because booming blade has another requirement for the damage, that being an attack?
Right, but if I can click “Display as Attack” for Dancing Lights…
Why not Booming Blade?
Right, especially since there’s a specific dice role in relation
It’s also just nice to see all your melee and weapon options in one place
GFB is the same, and I believe because they are configured to be set to "as part of weapon attack" - meaning the "action" you use to roll the attack roll is the weapon's action, not the spells. If you want to see the additional damage display in the actions tab (rather than clicking it from the spells section), you will need to manually add a custom action.
Aha!
I knew there had to be something selected somewhere to cause it.
So you could therefore make a homebrew copy and remove that checkmark, which would then let you Display as Attack.
When browsing Homebrew content on DndBeyond, is there a way to sort by date added?
I think you can on a big enough screen. If you’re seeing the date column, you should be able to just click the column header to sort.
Am I doing something wrong? Is there really no way to create a bunch of standalone encounters then add them to the camaign after the fact? Do I first have to edit the campaign and then create an encounter?
You can edit a campaign and assign it to a campaign by selecting the option to manage party, then selecting the appropriate campaign
No worries
Hey there - I'm trying to edit a homebrew subclass, is there a way to add the Finesse property to a select list of weapons?
I don't believe so. Not through the subclass, anyway.
Generally speaking, the homebrew system was built to facilitate the official content. If no official content does that, it might not be possible.
You can add finesse to an individual weapon created as a Magic Item.
And you can manually adjust the bonuses for weapons in your inventory, by clicking the weapon and opening the Customize menu in the sidebar.
Yeah I didn't think so, some of the editing options for custom weapons are included in the subclass feature dropdown bars like "weapon property - finesse" but I figured that was probably just part of a broad set of options put into every category
I'll probably make a custom weapon and then whenever that player happens to find a new one it'll just have to be custom as well. I thought about just adding text like "you wield these weapons as though they had the finesse property" but I think it'll just look smoother if I do the edits myself
Thanks for the response though, I was goin a little nuts over that one!
Yeah, not every Modifier option works for every type of homebrew.
Is there a way to make a weapon have a +1 and +2 property? For reference I am making daggers then when weirded separately they give +1, but if wielded together give +2
It may be easier to create two different items - one with the +1 effect and the other with the +2 effect and then just add and wield the appropriate item as needed.
That's a good idea if there isn't another way.
I can't think of a way to create a floating bonus that's tied to whether you have x amount of the same items...
Didn't think so. Thanks.
What you can do is to make it as a magical item. Base it in Greataxe, and then add a Modifier where you choose: Type: Damage, Subtype: Slashing, Dice count: 1, Die Type: 1d12
I'm trying to do the same thing, but I haven't figured out how to make it roll with disadvantage automatically, anyone know how to do that?
With the Level 7th Eldritch Knight ability, can I then use my two attacks?
So essentially have 3 attacks?
@graceful temple that'd be a question for #dnd-rules
Thanks. I'll give it a try.
I've never seen auto advantage, so not sure it's possible (happy to be wrong). Plus... A player is never going to forget advantage... I bet they would forget disadvantage all the time.
Could you agree a negative modifier instead, like a minus 5 to all rolls and leave them with standard rolle?
Alright so I have made a Monk subclass, and I want to add a spell to it as a class feature, but I can't get it to show in spells. I want it to be able to be casted twice every long rest, and I specified that, but it shows up in the wrong place. I am very new to homebrew so I know it is probably me being dumb.
to add to this, I have also made the spell seperately
#homebrew can help you answer that one. (You’ll need to get the Homebrew role from #880965682462875679 first.)
Where does the spell currently show?
I'm trying to make a homebrew subclass right now, trying to add some extra spells, but I can't select the ones I want. Do I need to buy the books that those spells come from? I'm in a campaign with shared material but that probably doesn't count right?
correct. If material is shared with you, its just for use in that campaign. If you want to use it in character creators or homebrew creators for other things, you need to purchase that content for yourself, or create that content in the Homebrew creator for your own personal use
It shows as a class feature able to be used twice every long rest, but it won't show in spells.
Are there any monsters capable of lifting a ship into the air with ease?
what size ship?
Think the biggest ship in Sea of Thieves
this would probably be a betting question to ask in #dm-discussion. This channel is for help using the actual DDB website, not so much for play tips

I'm not realizing that I don't have perms for that chat
Probably cuz I'm not a DM lol

Ah okay
Can you share a link to your character?
Does the DDB site have a generic dice roller you can use? or just when creating a character?
Yes, on any character sheet.
Bottom right hand side you can select dice to roll
There isn't a dice roller away from a sheet.
Wow - cannot believe I missed that - thank you.
Please help me delete my dndbeyond account
You will need to enter a customer support ticket via this link https://dndbeyond-support.wizards.com/hc/en-us/requests/new
Already did. They won't respond
3 voicemails and 5 support tickets so far. Only one response. They refused to delete and close the ticket
Tickets are responded to in the order they're received and responses may take longer during busy periods
Additionally, the system tracks your place in the queue based on most recent ticket, so filling additional tickets will only push you further down the queue
However, D&D Beyond customer service does not have a phone number, so I'd be concerned with whom you're leaving voicemails. I would stick to waiting for a reply via the support ticket
Ya, they clearly aren't responding
Thanks for your attempt at helping. I'll report dndbeyond to consumer affairs.
I searched and didn't spot this, but possible I just missed it.
Is it possible to put an Echo Knight Fighter's echo in the Extras section on a dndbeyond character sheet?
It's not because the echo isn't a creature and thus doesn't have a stat block officially. Extras only displays stat blocks
You can homebrew your own stat block and then add that to the extras
Do you need a stat block to keep track of something with 1 hit point?
I have a dndbeyond question:
I am a DM with the Master Tier subscription. I have players with no paid subscription in my campaign. I have content sharing enabled. If I add a public homebrew race to my collection, can my player use that race for character creation through content sharing?
Homebrew in your collection is shared within your campaigns even without a subscription
even if im not the author of the homebrew?
Nope, just as long as it's in your collection
Heyya folks, I have a friend who content shares with me, he doesn't play in my campaign, and put one of his characters in their for content sharing, does this character need to be in there?
sweet, thanks
He wants to move it to a different campaign
Yes, for someone to count as in a campaign for content sharing, they either need to be the DM of the campaign or have a character in it
Got it, thank you
Is there any way to homebrew a vehicle on dndbeyond? Specifically a ship?
Unfortunately no
Is there any way to add Lycanthropy to a character sheet??
Not a built-in way, no.
Have a character that....grrr ok. Have a new wererat in the party, and not sure how to handle that
You could potentially add it as a homebrew feat if you wanted. (For private use only, though; it shouldn’t be published to the DDB community.)
homebrewed items or feats
haven't played around too much with homebrew feats, but I guess I'll give that a try. Thanks
can anyone else like,,, not roll digital dice? my friend can't either
and same for me
Press "manage" next to the characters name, go to character settings, and enable dice rolling
huh
Might be low processing power or a bad connection?
Do you get the same issue in another browser or on another device?
this is happening for my campaign aswell
bro i am using dnd beyond and its not letting me role?
anybody know how to fix this?
I can vouch. dice rolling is borked atm.
Also happening for me aswell
Yep. We’re letting the team know.
Cant roll
Hey All - aware that Digital Dice on website are currently not working (someone cast a Greater Invisibility on them, and the Dispel check is super high or I need more coffee to grant some bonuses). Will advise once they are back!
Dice are working again!
Whoops, got distracted and forgot to update here - Dice are back, got the dev team with a much higher modifier to their Dispel check to resolve the issue 🙂
Hey can anybody tell me how to make companions In beyond on mobile? I can’t figure it out
What do you mean by “companions”, exactly? Characters? NPC statblocks?
Hello, I'm trying to figure out why I only see two sorcerous origins in my character creator right now. Could have sworn I had a ton more options?
It may be that those other options were shared with you through one of your campaigns, if you didn’t buy them yourself.
Shared characters options are only available for characters assigned to that campaign.
I mean like pets to have during game, im kinda new to all of this and I just want to know how to have a pet like companion in game
You’d have to use the website for that (which you can do in your mobile browser).
Just go to the Extras tab on your character sheet and hit “Manage Extras”.
why cant I view the player charters in my campaign? i hit the view button but it dose nothing.
@livid hearth Regarding accessing your character offline on the app. You need to have loaded your character at least once while connected for it to be saved to the app. The characters details will attempt to update each time you load it, but not in the background
The app does not automatically pull character data
Thank you.
No worries, glad to help
Character privacy is a togglable setting. It could be that they player chose to hide their character so other players can't see it
How do I add/use a custom langauge?
You select the cog in the languages and proficiencies section of the character sheet and enter a custom language
Can I replace one of my subclass's langauges with a custom one?
No, you can't grant custom languages that way
Have you guys considered making that an option in the future?
It's feedback that has been suggested previously and is on the teams radar
Alrgiht
well for now I can just select the same language from my background and add in custom
Or just leave an option unselected.
Hey where are the other slumbering dragon weapons?
The only one listed in beyond is the longsword
Which weapon are you referring to? Slumbering is a state that can apply to multiple hoard weapons
Dragon’s Wrath Weapon. Please be aware that for this hoard magic item, we have defaulted the weapon to a longsword. In the future we plan to make it so that such magic items allow the selection of the weapon type when the magic item is added to a character sheet. For now, if you wish to grant a Dragon’s Wrath Weapon, that isn’t a longsword, please use our homebrew tools in order to create a magic item using the appropriate Dragon’s Wrath Weapon, then change the base weapon to the one you want. Please do not publish this homebrew - it can be openly shared within any campaign that you are in without publishing.

hi anyone here ?
Yep, do you need help with something?
yes please.....
i am new to the server... so hi...
me and my partner are getting into D&D we play at a local cafe in town...... but we are wanting to find groups on discord to play as we have a 1 year old so that would fit in better with us..
i am wondering what is the best website to use
how you find a group
Ready to play some Dungeons & Dragons?

Be respectful, and have fun!
if you have to subscribe to the website
may i ask what website most people use to join a D&D and how visual information is shared for example a map or something
Those are all excellent questions to get answered in #dnd-newcomers
We have a load of useful links pinned in that channel covering some of the very questions you've just asked, plus I'm sure there will be plenty of folks willing to help answer any other questions
(This channel is specifically for help using D&D Beyond.)

There’s an article here that explains what DDB offers and how to get started:

I joined a campaign and gained a feat via said campaign but later had to leave said campaign, and couldn't remove the feat as it wouldn't appear in the feat management window any more, but remained on my sheet. is there any way to get around this to delete feats we no longer have access to?
Can you share a link to the character? What feat are you trying to remove?
Well, since then I have deleted the character sheet and started fresh, I was just wondering if there was a system for this circumstance. the feat was Athlete which was listed amongst many other feats while the character was in the campaign, but after leaving, the feats management window reverted to the free-to-play status and showed nothing. (This caused the character to have +1 Dex I couldn't remove)
To be honest: I don't know. I would have assumed a feat applied to your character would still be available to remove. I asked for that info in hopes of passing it along to the team to investigate.
But if that's no longer available, no worries.
Ah, apologies. If I recreate the scenario I'll be sure to return. thank you anyways 🙃
All good. I can pass them the info you've been able to provide already, just in case.
Hey so is there a specific book I have to buy to get access to Chronurgy Wizard?
Explorer’s Guide to Wildemont, I think, is where that class lives
so on my character score calculations other modifier won't go past 10, someone said it's not supposed to do that and to come to here
It would just be nice to not have to memorize it's numbers and abilities and have them in one place. Like, I don't need a stat block for a familiar, but it's just damn convenient and helpful.
It's so weird that a thing can have it's own AC etc but not have an official stat block. Strange.
I may do this if I have to use this backup character. That's a good idea.
Lots of the things in the game can have AC without having a stat block, just check out the Dungeon Master's Guide's section on objects
I'm not sure why it's limited to 10, but that does indeed seem to be the case.
You can use Override Score instead to set it directly to the expected total.
Out of curiosity, in what circumstance do you need to add a number larger than 10?
am i doing soemthing wrong?
I honestly don't know, hence why I asked for more details on what you're doing.
I asked how to figure out the stats in character creation and they said to role a die 4 times and get ride of the lowest number
Generally those two fields (Other Modifier and Override Score) are used for temporary changes to your ability scores, like the effects of a shadow's strength drain:
https://www.dndbeyond.com/monsters/17010-shadow
Maybe you want override?
That will set it to the number as opposed to modifying the number
Your base ability scores should be entered at the top of the Abilities tab in the character editor.
(You can also pick manual rolling and enter it in that way through the boxes)
oh ok
If you rolled your scores, select "Manual/Rolled" from the dropdown at the top and then you can input your totals.
The boxes there will let you enter any value between 3 and 18.
So I'm making a bloodhunter as a possible backup character for a campaign I'll be in. I was playing around with the higher levels of the class in the creator when I noticed that the subclass specific blood curses don't show up even when I meet the prerequisites. Things like Curse of the Howl, Curse of the Soul Eater, Curse of the Exorcist, and Curse of Corrosion should be able to be taken at 18th (first two) and 15th (second two) levels, but even at level 20 I can't get them to show up. Am I missing something?
oh wait I did miss something, it just gives it to you you don't have to select it. Alright, I see how this works now
I have a DnD Beyond question. Everytime I roll damage on my rogue it always adds on sneak attack damage even if I don't want it, is there a way to toggle off sneak attack?
Are you using a browser extension like Beyond20? It can interfere with normal DnDBeyond functionality and it might do something like what you're seeing.
Normally sneak attack damage is not rolled and has to be rolled separately.
oh thanks ❤️
any idea how I could make Beyond 20 stop doing it?
You'd have to ask Beyond 20. It's a third party thing.
Not supported by DnD Beyond.
Should be able to just turn off the extension though
Hi I'm trying to share my content but it's not working, specifically my player can't see the sub classes and feats while making their character.
I have the master tier and I've shared my content before. This campaign does have the content sharing activated, and the sources are turned on in the character edit section.
I'm at a loss for what I'm doing wrong here.
Got it. Had to have the player sign out and sign back in.
is there a way to add Draconic Gifts\ Supernatural Gifts\ Epic Boons etc to a character sheet ? (Without creating it as a homebrew feat)
thanx
Running Lost mines of Phandelver.
Why are the caption box's that are to be read to players not displayable in vtt?
Hi there - we don't have a VTT at D&D Beyond, sorry!
If I'm running icespire peak for example from ddb I can display certain parts of adventure on Roll20 for example.
A caption box will specify 'display in vtt'.
I believe all other published adventures on ddb have this option . But not lost mines?
DnDBeyond does not have a VTT or any official connection to other VTTs. The best you could potentially do is to copy the text and paste into the chat window of your VTT.
Or are you talking about the adventure callout boxes that are usually meant to be read out loud to the party?
Uh... not in DnDBeyond - that may be coming from a third-party browser extension
Beyond20
That sounds like you're using a 3rd party browser extension to modify the D&D Beyond site.
We don't officially support any 3rd party tools in this manner.
I suggest feedback to the author of the extension.
DnDBeyond is not associated with or officially supports Beyond20.
Got it. Thanks
My screen looks like this on my "My characters" are of dnd beyond
Looks like bad cache - hold the shift key down and refresh the page. Or clear your browser cache.
did both and its still the same
I can't even use equipment right, it just gives me an error message makes my screen jump
Did your browser zoom level get set to something funky?
And have you tried logging out, refreshing, and logging back in?
Do you get the same issue in another browser, or on another device?
Works for NASA every time
Yeah sometimes technology just needs to power down to clean out the gremlins...
How do I activate/infuse my Homonculus Servant infusion?
You'll need to make sure you have a suitable gem in your inventory, then create the infusion as you would any other
Go to inventory > infusions
Select the Homunculus Servant option
Click 'create infusion' and select the gem
So my DM gave me a custom background that I could choose for my character.
I went ahead and made it and chose my skill proficiencies.
But for some reason they don't show up on my character sheet? I only have the 2 that I got to choose from my Paladin class. Is there something wrong with the custom background skills or am I missing something??
Can you share a link to that character sheet?
so i made a bard but I either didn't have the option to or entirely missed which college I pick for her 😦
Bards choose a college at level 3. What level are you?
Hi all I have a (hopefully) simple question. Finally getting my first in person game in a long time! We are using ddb for character sheets.
Question:
So if we are playing with dndbeyond (i have never before, always just used the VTT char sheets). The characters can roll right from their sheets. But I don't see where I roll from. Like if I want to roll for random encounters, or for some other reason. Other than creating an encounter I don't see a way. Am I missing something?
Is there just a DM dice roller?
Or do all my rolls have to be from a character sheet? I was assuming there would be some way to just roll dice from the campaign screen
the dice roller is only implemented in certain pages, namely character sheets and the encounter builder.
if you're playing in person though, usually you'd have your own dice, so not a huge deal.
Yeah I was hoping to have all the rolls in one place. But you are right, not a huge deal. Would be a nice campaign feature though
So one way you can do it is roll your own die or you can roll custom die in the campaign
What are custom die?
Okay so create a throw away character in the campaign you just need a random race class and score set up. Once you have it you can hit the dice button in the bottom left and roll any number of die you need
Actually, scratch that. I figured out what was wrong with it.
I had to enable Homebrew content.
Everything's good.
Anyone got issues accessing their campaign?
must be maintenance hour
The site is going through it's regular, daily maintenance window, it should be back up shortly
Hopefully a lot less than an hour
ok 😦
Try now
am still getting intrnal server errors
Hey, is ddb down? Half the site isn't functioning. Can't open the Characters menu or a Campaign. Half the time it's infinitely loading or you get a runtime error
oh. scratch what I just posted >_>
Seems like server maintenance; It's interrupted my campaign as well D:
Thank goodness for local copies of everything
I'll make sure to download the character sheets next time beforehand. just to make sure. campaign is about to kick off in a few hours.
Should be up in time for you! Best of luck
It's loading for me right now
Yeah; it's returning a HTTP 500; try again later
oki
oki
There it is for me!
No worries, we like to monitor the downtime to make sure it's not longer than anticipated, so thanks for reporting all
sight seems to be working for me

Hi folks. I have a Content Management question. Within the campaign I'm DMing, I share all my books with my players (Master tier). However, our campaign is based on the CotN adventure, so I'm specifically blocking that to my players so they can't dive in for a sneaky read (not that they would, etc etc). To my understanding, this means that they can't view the CotN book from me sharing it, but should still be able to use the character building options, etc.
My partner is a player in my campaign, and while I'm logged in as her she can easily open up CotN and look through the whole book, even though I'm not sharing it within the campaign. She doesn't otherwise own CotN.
We both play in other campaigns where sharing is enabled, and I have a suspicion that she can access the book because we're together in those other campaigns. My other players also play with me in various campaigns with content sharing, and I suspect that they could view CotN for the same reasons. If that's true, does that mean I'd have to go around all my other DMs and ask them to block the book within their campaign's content management?
Your summary is correct in how the content management feature works. In order to sue listings (like magic items, etc) on a character sheet, that sheet would need to enable Critical Role content.
If the book is showing in that specific campaign, then someone in that campaign is sharing it - you cant on-share from other campaigns to a new one (someone in that campaign must own the content to share).
And yes - the blocking only blocks via that specific campaign, if they have access via another campaign it would not be blocked, and if they own it themselves, you can never block it.
(nothing to see here. I posted in the wrong channel.)
Thanks for that. I don't think any of my players have the book, so I'm guessing it's the sharing from other campaigns that's doing it. I trust my players enough not to want to spoil anything for themselves, but was just curious
There’s an article here that walks through the basics.
https://www.dndbeyond.com/posts/845-new-players-guide-how-to-homebrew-on-d-d-beyond
You can also select an official subclass as a template when you create your homebrew. Then you can dig in and see exactly how they set it up.
I’d suggest asking in #dnd-rules. (This channel is for technical help using D&D Beyond.)
My apologies
This Homebrew just adds a bunch of spells and an additional resource (Mistletoe Sprigs) at lvl 6.
Everything there looks doable. I’d suggest starting with the resources above. Get at least the class features added with descriptions. If you get stuck at any point, you’re welcome to ask here or in #homebrew.
any that can tell me why i cant see shared link on 1 of my characters ? it is in my character list but no shared link option is showed
that character must be set to private.
okay i try that
......amendment: the character must be currently set to private*
set it to public, and shared link will appear
ahh i was about to write it is on private
thanks
np
How do I replace the spells on DDB?
Currently you can't; the character sheet system doesn't support this functionality but the team is aware of this and it's on their radar
A popular workaround is to make a homebrew copy of the subclass, and then edit the copy to change the spells
Oh okay, is there an easy way to HB copy the subclass so that I'm not having to try to manually add all the features?
I play on discord, so I use Avrae, meaning all of the automatic stuff gets taken from DDB
If you go to the site and go to create a homebrew subclass, you can use an existing subclass as a template. Select the clockwork soul and it'll copy everything across
You can then just edit what you need to
Ah perfect! Thank you
No worries, glad to help
Darn.. cos I don't own the book for that subclass, and get it through the campaign sharing system with another player, I only have Draconic subclass as an option 😅
I assume the only way then is to buy the book?
yeah.
Or create the character in that campaign.
You can buy just the subclass for $1.99
That wouldn't help, they're wanting to make a homebrew copy of the subclass, not a character using the sub
Howdy all. I have a question about a potential issue I have within a homebrew I have tried to make for the intent of publishing it to dndb-homebrew pages. Is this the right place to ask for help?
Depending on the issue, here or #homebrew
Feel free to ask here and I can redirect as needed
I am trying to publish my homebrew, right? And I have this message preventing me from publishing it. But the spells list is all Basic rules, Tasha's or Xanathar's
Please help?
Exactly. Tasha and Xanathar are licensed content.
Ah. So the spells can only be from the Basic rules? I can't publish anything involving the other core D&D spells?
You can but you can't link to them. I add just the name and a not to get them from the other sources.
Gotcha, so you're saying just adding a table of the expanded spells list, but not coding the subclass to provide them. Since that would prevent me from publishing it?
if it's for a privatw game, you don't need to publish btw
homebrew's shared automatically in a DDB Campaign
Yeah, I would like to publish this since I've worked pretty hard to make it a balanced subclass that I think would be interesting to [role]play.
You can't, there are no active coupons and that extension is incorrect
For example, BELEGENDARY25 was a code for 25% off the Legendary Bundle, not 50%, and that was back in 2019
Generally speaking, sales on DDB typically come through direct discounts on the site rather than coupons.
We haven't had discount codes in some time
I'm still having this problem, sorry I never responded haha, I didn't see your reply
Here's the link to one of the characters having the problem, if you need the other ones too lmk
https://www.dndbeyond.com/sheet-pdfs/mrshplurgen_36394541.pdf
Can you include a link to the character sheet itself, too? (Not the PDF)
yes
one sec
Seems it's currently set to Private. Would you mind switching it to Public for a moment?
Click your character portrait, open "Character Settings" in the sidebar, and scroll to the bottom.
Did that work?
Yep! Thanks.
And you said there's a discrepancy between the inventory counts on the sheet vs. the PDF, correct? Which items specifically?
Oh, I see. There's multiple line entries for each custom item.
Even though each individual line shows the correct count.
And it happens with all your custom items?
Yes, across several different characters as well
I think there's some custom weapons that didn't duplicate, but I think those are just renamed versions of normal weapons iirc
Not added using the Custom Item tool
Gotcha
I wonder if the number of repeats has to do with the number of containers for that character?
The one you linked has Equipment and Bag of Holding equipped. (Plus other unequipped containers.)
But that’s two active containers and two repeats.
Do you have another character with more equipped containers? How many times do those repeat?
Let me check
(The PDFs get cached for a short time, so changing what’s equipped for the current character might not get an immediate change.)
This character should have no equipped containers, yet has the same duplication problem
https://www.dndbeyond.com/sheet-pdfs/mrshplurgen_54352473.pdf
https://www.dndbeyond.com/characters/36394541
Alrighty, then.
Thanks for the info!
I’ll pass it along to the team for review.
Thank you!
Do you have any suggestions on what I could do for a temporary solution? This group is actually meeting for a session in like 6-7 hours lol
Crash, boom, bang, goes the website over and over again as I attempt to make a character
Lord Screwyersite's evil laugh echoes through the city streets around you
@long swift Can you provide some more specific information as to what troubles you're having?
You can just manually delete it on the PDF before you print it.
Alright, thanks!
Alternatively, you could try putting them in Other Posessions instead of using custom items.
Would that still show up on the pdf?
@modest pelican site keeps crashing
Error Code
f8f6a16f2a7c4eaba5fce87c2791e21a
Version
@dndbeyond/character-app@1.16.8
it works for a bit... then takes a while to spin back up... then it is usable... until it isn't
All I'm doing is very slowly creating a new character.
Do you get the same issues in another browser, or on another device?
I haven't tried yet. I'm a web dev by trade. Doesn't make sense it'd crash the server if I use one browser or another
I got through the character building this time, and I've rarely seen that error in the past
What is the difference between #ddb-feedback and #ddb-support ?
It also isn't consistent, which led me to believe you all might have a cloud infrastructure issue going on
Also, at one point it said "The dice server is having an issue"
@cosmic jasper I think feedback is like, "I'd really love to be able to have dice styles tied to characters instead of the main account" and help is "the website is crashing"
Okay, so feedback is like "this would be nice" and help is like "the website is crashing or has missing material".
@uneven lantern , I also notice that Marital Adept feat lacks showing the 1d6 use for maneuvers. Not shown anywhere on Action, Bonus Action, Other, and Limited Use. 🤷
Okay, so it only shows up under Feats, right, right. It might be useful if I also shows up under Limited Use or Other for those using the Feat. (That's more #ddb-feedback , I acknowledge)
Yep! That's exactly the kind of thing #ddb-feedback is for. (But I can pass it along from here. 👍🏻)
how long does it take for the ddb support take to get back to you?
Our standard response is within three business days - generally we can be faster, but it depends on a lot of factors (like number of tickets, etc.).
f cuz i had a game tonight but when i go to login all my stuff is gone.
If you've logged in and everything has disappeared, the logical explanation is that you logged into (or created) a 2nd account, and did not use the correct login method/account to access the correct account with your characters/content.
i used the same one my twitch
Did you just raise the ticket?
yes. bit sad cuz i just got a book and a master sub for my campaign.
I've replied - you have multiple accounts.
when i try that user name it just loops the login screen
thx for your help i love you you saved my game to night my player are happy
how do i add spellslot to non spellcaster class
How do I go about making my unarmed strikes use 2 dice instead of 1? I can't find a simple way to to do it on homebrew either. Beyond using a Greatsword or Maul and renaming it Unarmed Strike.
why not roll it twice?
Why are you trying to get unarmed strike to roll two dice? That information would help in providing an answer
Because something in my character's backstory, allows her to do double on all unarmed strikes
By default, unarmed strikes don't roll damage dice, they're 1+Str
But she's a Monk
do it's 1d4, but in her case 2d4
Base class features, such as the monks martial arts, can't be modified using the homebrew tooks
Your best bet would be to create a custom action
that's why I tried to make a dagger that does 2d4 instead of 1d4, but couldnt work out how to do that either
How do I make a custom action?
Go to actions >> Manage Custom
Select Weapon, then Edit
Enter the following
you'll get an action that looks like this
It won't automatically scale, so you'll need to adjust the die type as you level
Oh, perfect, thank youy
Here is it on a monk character of mine, next to their regular unarmed strike
I increased the die to d6 to match
Oh, you'll want to check "Affected by Martial Arts" too. That will ensure that it picks the highest between dex and strength
Thank you so so much!
When i open a book (dmg) on dndbeyond i'm see a table of contents, but i'm really looking for a specific page. is there a way to find it by page number?
Due to the way D&D Beyond formats the books, by optimising them either for webpage (on the site) or app, book pages and their corresponding numbers don't align with site/app locations. So as such, it's not possible to navigate D&D Beyond by page number
Am I able to rename a race in a D&Dbeyond character sheet for the sake of reflavoring?
Like not the race itself obviously just the “race” part of the beyond character sheet
Like this underlined part, I’d like to rename it to “Half Dragon” but still retain the metallic Dragonborn features
make a homebrew copy and rename it is all you can do
I don’t think you can do that with fizban or other sourcebook races that aren’t PHB
Yes you can, you just need to own them
It doesn't work for anything that's being shared with you though
Then you won't be able to use it as a homebrew template
You can copy it into the homebrew tools manually from the physical book if you wish
Or you can ask whoever does own it to do that for you.
Their private homebrew will be shared with you automatically. They wouldn’t (and shouldn’t) have to publish it to the global community.
Give it a class feature called “Spellcasting” or “Pact Magic”.
Which slots you get (and when) depends entirely on the class you’re using. There’s not really a way to manually specify.
is there a way i can search the ddb app based on the page number of the physical book
Nope; due to how the content is formatted, it's not currently feasible to align the app (or web) content with page numbers in a way that's reliable or meaningfully useful
makes sense
I found that out the hard way when I tried to play Star wars 5e content, they refer to the PHB by pages, and thats useless to me
Should be showing on the Actions tab now! 🥳
Oh, that's great 😃 wow, thank you!
One of the Magic Initiate feats
Hi team,
Im new to ddb (and dnd as a whole). In the ddb traits for half-elf, the speed is noted as 30ft, but when building the character on ddb, the speed is set to 20ft.
Is this an issue in the ddb character builder or is there something else im missing? note i am unencumbered
Probably because of armor.
wearing heavy armor without str prereq I also bet.
wearing armor that has a str prerequisite, while not meeting it, reduces speed by 10ft.
Heavy Armor. Heavier armor interferes with the wearer's ability to move quickly, stealthily, and freely. If the Armor table shows "Str 13" or "Str 15" in the Strength column for an armor type, the armor reduces the wearer's speed by 10 feet unless the wearer has a Strength score equal to or higher than the listed score.
https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/basic-rules/equipment#ArmorandShields
perfect, thanks!
Not sure if this is an actual "help" question but I'm curious: With Volo's being discontinued, what's the sourcebook that players would need to have access to in order to have those playable races that were included? Is it just in multiple different source books now? Or is there one new print (that I'm not seing on DDB) where all of them would be available
Volos (along with Tome of Foes) content has been superseded by Monsters of the Multiverse
Ah, I have that but hadn't actually given it a strong look. I didn't realize it had any player content in it - thought it was just a bestiary. Thanks!
oh wait - no I don't
I thought I had access to it.
So if I previously had Volo's are those player options still available to my players in my campaigns with content sharing enabled?
and on that related note, are the Tome monster stat blocks still available to me on the encounter builder? I was able to verify this quickly myself.
If you already owned Volo's, you can continue to use it in the same way you always have.
That includes content sharing.
okay thanks. I didn't have a quick way of testing if those legacy races were still available for my players to choose
The only thing that changed is that it's no longer for sale.
thanks!
But yeah, there's a total of 33 player races in MotM -- the largest collection of any book.
I’m very confused rn lol
I got shared a substantial amount of content on dnd beyond, is there a way to show who shared the content with me?
Not in any definitive way, I'm afraid.
Any content sharing comes from your campaigns. You could start by looking to see which of your campaigns have Content Sharing enabled.
It will show whoever activated Content Sharing for that campaign.
Buuut once Content Sharing is enabled, any game content owned by anyone in the group gets shared. It may or may not belong to the person who activated it.
So at that point, you'd have to ask the people in that campaign.
The mobile app is being stubborn lol
Stubborn how?
I don't think it actually shows that Content Sharing box in the mobile app, actually.
You'd have to look for it here:
https://www.dndbeyond.com/my-campaigns
When I try to save a character as a pdf it saves blank, I've tried it on both the mobile app and the mobile website.
What are you using to open your PDF?
Android files
No, what pdf app?
That might be the issue, some PDF readers don't like the form data of the exports
I know that adobe acrobat works and is free for all platforms
Thanks
On another note, is there a way to give a barbarian the battle master's maneuvers without adding fighter levels?
There's a feat that allows it
I'm sure that this has been asked and answered before, but unfortunately I am unable to find it. My dragon of ice Spire Peak shows update available. Is this for the new starter set Adventure? And if it is will I lose ice spire?
Are there more items that are similar to bag of holding and instant fortress and what are they?
Handy haversack is similar to a bag of holding.
Portable hole can also be used in a bag of holding type of way
And what aspect of instant Fortress are you looking to be similar to? A shelter? If so maybe some magic item that allows you to cast magnificent mansion?
No, this is not a replacement of the adventure, just update to the content on your phone (fixing spelling mistakes and links, that kind of thing)
@honest galleon@eternal fog You want #dnd-discussion for this kind of topic
Thanks...for both bits of advice
Thank you
You can read more about the specific changes here:
https://www.dndbeyond.com/changelog/1293-compendium-quality-of-life-updates
How does one use the Lineage to replace only parts of a race? (If I'm in the wrong area, would someone kindly point the way)
The ones from VRGTR?
You’ll need to select Change Race and swap completely. Your new “race” will give you the option to select the languages and proficiencies you had before.
Does anybody know when the new starter set adventure comes to D&D Beyond? I live in a place where they dont sell it at target, and most of my books I get from amazon.
presumably after target exclusivity ends
Oh ok thanks
I think that exclusive period ends in October
This may sound like a dumb question but does an Arcane focus allow you to ignore the material component requirements for spells?
That would be a question for #dnd-rules
Oh alright thanks.
S'all good!
Hi, I recently made a post on the homebrew discussion thread seeking feedback, where afterwards the homebrew was 'rejected' for copywrite. I reviewed the rules for homebrew sharing, and I'm unclear as to where I overstepped. It would seem to me the initial trigger was perhaps the name including 'revised'? Or perhaps on initial glance the moderator thought my changes were not 'significant' enough? I just want to understand where I erred, I'd lost a number of 'adds' that I was quite happy with which is disappointing.
Was it a revised version of an official piece of content?
yes, is that something just unallowed across the board? I've seen a number of official subclasses touched up in the homebrew section
Revised content can fall foul of three different rules
- if it's based on WotC content, it violates our D&D copyright rule
- if it's based on third party content, it violates our third party copyright rule
- if it's based on someone elses homebrew, it violates our 'too similar' rule
All content published must be completely your own original work and not variations or revisions of another piece of work
the fact that there are published homebrews that violate these rules does not mean the rules don't apply; the homebrew reporting system is manual and we rely on the community to assist moderators in reporting such violations
ahh I understand a bit better then, so no degree of changes to a base official subclass is tolerated?
Nope, homebrew has to be entirely your own work
ok thanks for clarifying
No worries, glad to help
This channel is for getting help using the D&D Beyond site, tools, and services
You want #dnd-newcomers
And as a general rule, asking people to PM you to help you isn't not the most effective way to get help
hi all. I have created a homebrew race for my campaign. It is not published but I was under the impression that homebrew is automatically shared. However it is not available and I cannot even make a character with this custom race. Is there some final check-box to enable it short of publishing it (which I woudl prefer not doing)?
Did you enable Homebrew Content for that character?
oh I see... I am so used to skipping past that first page of options. It works. I will let my player know he can create away!
thanks for the reply, I can't beleive I didnt see that
can somebody help me figure out how to make an encounter be "finished" in the campaign?
i have a small pile that want me to resume
I made a mistake\
I some how made it so spells automatically get added to my spell list by mistake when turning dunamancy spells accessible to circle of the stars
I'm sure this has been asked and answered, but no matter what I search for, I can't find it. I added the fey touched feat to my druid. With that I get to add a 1st level enchantment or illusion spell. I get one free use and then I can, if I wish to use it again, use a spell slot. However, none of the spells that aren't already for a druid show up as options.
Is there a specific spell you were expecting to see that isn’t there?
Um, sort of 🙂 Hunter's Mark, Dissonant Whispers, Silvery Barbs among others
I tried going through the Tasha's thread on DnDB but it's very lengthy and my searches didn't come up with anything.
I just checked, and those spells are in the correct school of magic.
The feat reads: You learn the misty step spell and one 1st-level divination/enchantment spell of your choice and can cast each of these spells without expending a spell slot, recharging on a long rest.
Yeah, Hunter’s Mark is indeed a divination spell, so it should apply.
And it’s in the Basic Rules, so every user should have access.
I thought this feat was a Tasha's feat. I have both, though, so ...
Just to check: you’re making your spell selection within the feat? Not through Manage Spells or anything?
Not sure? Let me see.
If you’ve got a screenshot you can share, that might help, too.
You are BRILLIANT! I had no idea it had a place to do it in the feat itself
Oh good!
Yes, I am a tech idiot, yes, I rely on the kindness of strangers such as yourself. Well, that's four hours of my life I won't get back! LOL But at least it's no more than that!
Glad we got it, though
was trying to open up Dunamancy to the circle of stars spell options but it added them as automatically learned and added to the spell slots with out adding or removing them
How did you do it, though? What steps did you take?
It still just gives me "use" not "cast" to use with a spell slot, but I can live with that until I figure out how to fix it
Yeah, that’s just the way it’s set up to work.
All “Cast” really does is mark off a spell slot, which you can do manually from the same screen.
Entangle and Guiding bolt are spells that have one free use for me and then I can use a spell slot and they have both use and cast, two separate entries. I'll get a shot for you
I went into homebrew and went to create homebrew spells and added circle of the stars druid to this list
That’s why, then. If you put a subclass in Available for Classes, it’s considered always available for that subclass.
Yep
alright thank you!
The catch there, though, is that your homebrew is automatically shared with every campaign you’re in.
Meaning you’d add it for every druid you play with.
Adding it to Druid in general will work
What I would do personally is make a homebrew copy of your subclass, race, or background.
Druids/Clerics/Paladins - when you add it to the subclasses, it treats as Domain/Oath/Circle spells, so auto prepares/memorizes
Then you can add it to the spell list for just the character using that subclass/race/background.
Hmm interesting
That way you don’t have to individually copy every spell, too.
It’s because it comes from a feat in this case.
Since Guiding Bolt is from a class feature, it has different options available.
Oh, okay. Gotcha. So, I can use it and just manually mark off a spell slot.
You could make a copy of your subclass and add the spell again there if you do want it to show using slots.
I think just manually marking it off would be easier? I mean, I'll know when I cast a spell LOL
Yeah, that’s definitely what I’d do for Misty Step, at least, since it’s the same at every level.
I think the times I'd cast Hunter's Mark at a higher level would be few and far between so I think it'll be okay.
The main thing was having the spells and you totally solved that!
And that one only increases the duration, not the damage or anything.
I think it’ll work fine for you as-is.
howdy, i have a quick question. im trying to create a homebrew race and every time i try to hit the 'create' button it instead gives me an error message. i was wondering if anyone knew a fix for it?
Can you provide a screenshot of where you are - is this the step where you are creating from scratch/using existing as a template, or after you start filling in details?
It's a from scratch template- it's after I fill in all the details and attempt to actually create it. Let me get a screenshot
So it's once I finish all the details,
When I hit the orange button it just takes me to an internal error page
Is there anything I can do to fix this or is it something out of my hands?
Okay, that would suggest that what you put into the description field was copied in from another source (either a website or pdf or other) and has formatting artefacts within the source code. You would need to paste anything in as plain text and then only use the formatting tools within the builder.
Ohh okay, thank you
I think I know what's causing it then
I think it's just this little dash I copy and pasted
—
Would having it saved in a note pad also affect it?
Like, copy pasting from one?
Sorry I keep getting distracted by tickets and making coffee. I normally suggest copying any text in as plain text. That might be putting into notepad and then copying from there, or using Ctrl+Shift+V to paste as plain text - this way any coding/html/formatting/css and then like all gets removed.
Pasting as plain text vs. just pasting (and copying any formatting from the original source):
Thank you! I appreciate the help
Interestingly, I was messing around with it and it seemed that the issue was the picture I was trying to use for the "large avatar"
I mayve been using too large of an image
That also could have been the issue. I also recommend not bothering with images until the end (you can always go back and edit). Getting the base creation made is always the priority.
Thats very true.
can I transfer ownership of a source to my other account?
No
Do you mean "how do I add a cantrip to my character sheet?"
I have no clue, I made my cleric, but I dont know ow to get spells. I have been using an item for healing.
Okay, does your question relate to playing the game, or using D&D Beyonds tools?
This channel is for the latter
Well to add cantrips to your character sheet, there are two ways
ok
- Go to your character sheet
- Click Managed to the right of their name
- Click the first option, managed character and levels
- Go to tab 2. Class
- Select spells at the top of the list (Just below where it says cleric)
- Expand 'know spells'
- Pick your cantrips
You'll know how many cantrips you have because it's say "Cantrips X/Y"
You can filter by cantrips by filtering by level 0 spells
Alternatively
- Go to your character sheet
- Click the spells tab
- Click Manage Spells
- Expand Known Spells
- Pick your cantrips
Same as before, it lists how many you know and you can filter them
No bother at all
Some cantrips are not showing up. like 'Decompose'
That's not an official cantrip
Oh
You can use DDB’s homebrew system if you want to add any additional spells of your own.

There’s an article here that walks through the basics.

How do I remove iOS notifications about promotional content? I could just remove all push messages from the app, but maybe there is some info I would want.
I don't think there is a way to enable or disable specific types of notifications.
But I can certainly pass along the request.
Thank you for the quick answer! No it’s fine, I don’t mean to cause a fuss. I’ll just disable it on my end.
no fuss, it's valid feedback!
And I've already passed it along. 👍🏻
Is there any place to see the exact backgrounds you get for Spelljammer pre-order? I love those things, but if they'll be the same vibe as the ones I got I won't pre-order the books.
There's a few examples here: (EDIT: wrong book 😅)
https://www.dndbeyond.com/posts/1278-instantly-unlock-journeys-through-the-radiant
There's one with adventurers on an asteroid with what appears to be ||an astroid-looking beholder||.
And there's also ||space penguins||, a ship flying over some ruins, a ||gith lookout|| on a ship flying beside a ||red dragon||, and a ||thri-keen in a gladiator match||.
Damn, you sold me with ||space penguins||. Thanks!
I'm just wondering if the Homebrew overhaul is still coming to D&D Beyond. I haven't been keeping up with the updates and I know there was an estimated roadmap at one point. It was mentioned that the newer homebrew system was supposed to fix a large number of bugs that the current one has. I was just wondering if an overhaul is still coming at some point even after the Wizards of the Coast purchase.
Does anyone know if I buy the PHB in DDB instead of paper version does it get updated if future editions are released or would it need to be purchased again in future?
If Wizards of the Coast releases any errata or updates to the current players handbook, D&D Beyond will apply those updates to the digital copy you own. However, the matter of future editions is not something that has been announced by Wizards of the Coast, let alone how D&D Beyond will handle something
The last official word was that the upcoming General Features System would come with a new way to homebrew its features (blessings, boons, dark gifts, etc). What exactly that will look like or when it will come is anyone's guess at the moment.
But that system won't cover any existing features (races, subclasses, feats, etc) -- at least not to start.
Thanks!
hi, i am having troubles with adding smear smite spell to my ranger as it is 1 st lvl spell in tashas couldron of everything. however its not available in the list and i have tashas couldron in dnd beyond. please help me out here
can it be that the spell is not for rangers?
nope it says it in tashas boo... that it is
There is no official spell called smear smite.
well that was an easy solution
Ah. Did you enable that Optional Class Feature?
You need to first turn on Optional Class Features in your character settings.
Then in the Class page of the character builder, open the Optional Feature Manager tab and enable Additional Ranger Spells.
I think ive found a bug but not sure
Please share, we can pass it along if it is
well just tried recreating it and it doesnt appear
I have a level 3 ranger horizon walker with access to the tireless and roving from TCoE
which shouldnt unlock till 10 and 3
not repeatable it would appear so nevermind I suppose
theres the character, but is non repeatable it would seem
yes, but on the actual character sheet, tiring and roving appear
From my understanding, those features should only appear after you have unlocked them from the level
so another level 3 ranger with the deft explorer does not have those (see below)
I'll pass this along, please don't delete the character if possible
sure thing
that character was created with randomizer so im assuming it came from that
Oh, key detail, thanks
as the copy character has everything identicle but still does not have that
identical*
a character created with randomize still has not worked as well (aka does not display tireless, roving)
ok thats all then thank you
dnd has my email or msg on here if you need me for anything thank you
Was wonder where i can buy the "Unarmed Fighting" fighting style
You’ll need Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything to use that and any other Optional Class Features.
https://www.dndbeyond.com/marketplace/sourcebooks/tashas-cauldron-of-everything
do i need to purchase the whole book or is there anything specific i can buy to get it
Optional Class Features are only available with the full book purchase.
They’re not available individually, I’m afraid.
Hey, I was wondering, I bought physical copies of Tasha's Cauldron of Everything and the Player's Handbook. Do I have to buy them again on the site to use them?
It’s not possible to redeem your physical books for digital copies, but you can use the site’s homebrew tools to recreate that content for free. (For private use only, though; please don’t publish it.)
Alternatively, you can buy just the part you need, like a single subclass. Whatever you spend on those gets credited toward the remaining cost of the book itself, too.
That's what I've been doing, I was just hoping to save myself some work and confusion. Thanks, anyways.
Well if you have any homebrew questions, we’re happy to answer here or in #homebrew.
Thank you.
Hey I'm looking for the option to buy swashbuckler as like, an individual purchase
I thought it was in xanathars but I can't see it in the subclasses there
I believe it first showed up in the Sword Coast Adventurer’s Guide
I will say, I’m not sure if that version is exactly reprinted into Xanathar’s.
so i bought Tasha’s Cauldron for unarmed fighting but now it's not showing up as a option for camp. i need it for but shows up for a different one
Oh
So rather than chip away at the book I actually want I gotta burn that money on a book I have no interest in?
Cool cool cool cool cool
If you go to this page, does it say your account entitlements are in sync?
https://www.dndbeyond.com/account/entitlement-resync
The changes in Tasha’s were applied as errata to SCAG, so they are identical (at least on the site and in newer printings of the book).
So if my DM is allowing us to take a free feat, how would I go about doing that on the app?
I'm assuming something something homebrew something but like, I'm way lost here
Ask the DM what feats are allowed. Then you can either purchase that official feat, have it shared with you through a DnDBeyond campaign, or use the homebrew tools to recreate it (do not publish your recreated official feats).
No I have the feat
I can't use the feat
Because traditionally lvl 1 characters do not get feats
You can add feats to your character sheet regardless of level on the front end of the sheet.
So under the features and traits tab you can add feats.
Go to Features & Traits, scroll down to Feats, and click the “Manage Feats” button.
Thanks
It was weird I couldn't do it on the character sheet, or in the regular character builder, but if I went into the character builder and then opened the character sheet the button suddenly appeared
Glad that feature exists tho
any idea why when im using the enounter tools that my rolls do not appear in the log even when i have everyone selected
If you check at the top of your Game Log, are your rolls set to send to Everyone?
Might need to check that Avrae has the right permissions for the desired Discord channel.
it does
I was going to add the sword of sharpness to my inventory but I can’t find it
Do I have to get a sourcebook or is it something else?
It says it can be any weapon that does slashing damage but how do I add it to my greatsword?
manage inventory, filter for 'sharpness', make sure it's not filtering out magic items
the add items part
Thank you
Avrae sends it by DM when your rolls are set to Self and not Everyone.
Greetings all. Help with the browser version, please. Just pre-ordered Spelljammer and was able to access the dice, but I don't see where the option to change the backdrop or character picture frames are set
yea, thats the problem. its set to everyone and its sending it to my DM and my players cant see it in the log
Can you share a screenshot of your game log?
DM or can i post here?
Here is fine
You can find them by clicking on your character portrait, then click Change Sheet Appearance in the sidebar.
The newest options are usually at the bottom of each section.
That does indeed say everyone. 🤔
But based on what you’ve described, it’s definitely acting like it’s set to Self.
“Have you tried turning it off and back on again?”
yea, ive tried to restart the browser, refresh. i dunno. its been like this for a while
Or what happens if you change it for a specific roll?
If you right click or long press on a roll, you should get an option to change it for just that roll.
"custom" rolls appear in the log and in the appropriate discord channel
just not attacks or spells
from encounters
Hmmm. Very weird. Not using any web extensions that do things to DnDBeyond (like Beyond20)?
it happens all the time, when i use extensions and when i don't (Sorry i was in a session)
@storm laurel When you say you're seeing spelljammer in your product keys, does it say anything else?
Could that be your redemption of Spelljammer Academy?
If you can provide a screenshot of what you're seeing, that might help
Probs would be best not to post the code itself here though dont want anoyone to pinch it
under the grant type collumn it says product key
and thats under my product licenses
Yeah, your current product licenses
Something activated by ProductKey could be a number of things - like claiming a product or activating a gift code.
For example, these are my most recent
Somethign you purchased will Say Purchase in that column
If you are seeing Spelljammer Academy - that isnt a purchase, thats a claimable product.
sorry idk how dnd beyond works lmao, so that means when it dropps on the 16th i can claim it?
Hang o n - I think you might be confusing a few things here.
Spelljamemr Academy is NOT Spelljammer Adventures in Space - two different sources.
Sorry Joel, I'll let you handle
