The attack swings slower and deals more damage, and the dash-special deals an effect called Maim which is basically like super-charged Doom, but also while you're waiting for it to hit, the enemy deals +50% damage||

I have almost 30h in maybe 5 or 6 days. I'm really enjoying the game. But I'm already in my 50th (if not there almost) attempt, and only reached Hades twice, and only beaten the first part. Any tips? Should I just try to go for a revenge like build? My goals in the game right now is maxing out the mirror and then the character interactions. I've been avoiding activating god mode, because I fear if I do, I'll just keep it on. But the temptation is growing...

If you find the game too difficult I would say maybe try god mode. Some main all applicable tips may be if you havent: farm darkness up to upgrade your mirror perks as much as possible. Make sure to give nectar to everyone to get all keepsakes unlocked. Get familiar with your favourite weapon and put some titans blood into it for better damages.
I wouldnt recommend following builds just yet because I find that just blindly following a build without really understanding its mechanics is not beneficial to your growth and learning as a player
That being said if you see a build you like you can definitely try for it. Just keep in mind it may be hard since you have no idea what gods will be coming up
But you can manipulate it with the keepsakes

If you've given them nectar once you should have their keepsake as well as the first heart, the one with a ribbon filled
Check codex and your keepsake-atorium. If you have 0 hearts and No keepsake from them, the likeliest explanation is that they haven't recieved nectar

Spear tends to have a longer range than the other melees while fists are fastest and good at stunlocking
I'm also pretty new and I went for the spear since it was just my favorite to play, but I find the damage tends to be kinda low if you try to build into Attack, whereas you can get some pretty crazy runs with Special
I haven't used fists much but they were surprisingly powerful and got me a win on my first try with them
So i'd say go with whichever one is more comfy, or try out the other weapons too!
