If you want to reset your knowledge you can reset your knownitems with the console command resetknownitems. Unfortunately, it will wipe all knowledge. You would then need to touch everything just once to regain knowledge.

There's only 1 mod he removed, which was the teleporteverything, since it for some reason blocked him joining the server

@kindred mortar well, you have AzuCrafyBoxes.. that pulls content from chests. Is it possible you are consuming the resources from a distance and not realizing it?
do you find that only resource type items are vanishing or are crafted items like swords and armor vanishing? those would not be pulled as they are not used in recipes for things (in vanilla anyways)

No, Ive looked up alot of stuff on different websites and cant figure it out. We did a complete reset on the pc and started from scratch and it still wont work
Just noticed that BepInEx on GitHub got updated to 5.4.23.3, and we on Valheim uses still 5.4.22.02 from August of -23. (and the v 6. pre-release got a v2, as well)
Anyone with insight or thought about were we're going with Valheim and BepInEx? Will an upgrade of BepInEx kill most mods, that doesn't get updated?

5.4.2202 is the only version of BepInEx that comes pre-configured for Valheim. We had to alter the default BepInEx config settings to adjust where/when our mods load and hook into the game. 5.4.23.3 is more game agnostic and can work with Valheim but not without editing some of the default values in config\BepInEx.cfg
At some point we'll probably fork 5.4.23.3 or whatever the latest stable release is but it isn't necessary yet.
Thank you for the insight. Yes, there are issues at this GitHub of Valheim players updating BepInEx to latest, and don't understand why the game or mods would not load... Go figure. I was trying to read up on if the latest 5.4 updates (or even the 6.pre) would give us any obvious benefits, byt my understanding of this is limited. I also guess the Unity engine version Valheim are using also have a role to play in this.
why don't people just use thunderstore? it's automatic. has all the BepInEx setup and everything ready to go if you use a modmanager like R2 or Gale. Click click done.
99% of the people do just click download via Gale, R2modman, or Tmm. No one uses github to update their bepinex unless they are trying to do things wrong on purpose.

Is there actually a mod or an option within the game to spawn a creature already tamed, or to spawn them at specific coordinates? It's just annoying having to tame everything around you, especially when using AllTameableOverhaul.

It depends on the mods. Sometimes it's ok for just one of you to have a mod and other times you both need the mod. You should go ahead and try it and see if you get any error msgs that tell you which mods you might both need to have.

hello guys are there any mods to stop people from cheating materials or items/upgrading character from a local server to a dedicated one?
Yes, have a look at Azumatt's AntiCheat mod and also the ServerCharacters mod by Smoothbrain. Both are available at thunderstore.io.

It causes character files to be saved on the server PC instead of on the game PC. And in order to join the server, you need to be using a character that has only ever been played on the server. Not on any other server or the solo game.
Thanks we need that as well. One more question, is there anyway we can tell if someone's been cheating? Like upgrading their characters, cheating materials etc. I'm playing with friends which I trust but their friends also joined who are I think cheating
Well, there is a PlayerActivity mod that, when loaded on the server and on all player's games, will log all activity such as cheat commands from the player as well as list all their inventory items regularly. It's a bit extreme but effective.
From what I could see is they login on a local server, cheat materials then login on our server.
ServerCharacters mod would prevent that.

Although, everyone would need to start fresh with a new character. That might not be popular.
You might be able to do a one time copy of the player's character file to your server but I'm not sure that would work.

I just searched thunderstore for 'playeractivity' and got no results, so added the space for 'player activity' and got 9 pages of results.... at page 4 i was about to ask you to confirm its name and there it is.... thunderstore search sure does suck sometimes for no apparent reason
if you discovver that servercharacters arbitrarily stops allowing new players a while after you start it... I'd like to hear from you. Specifically what you think causes it and your modlist at the time. This is a difficult to diagnose issue that a few of us are having. @vivid blaze

im not a mod author or anything like that, (i code with chat gpt) but im leaning towards something that touches player files. I haven’t had time to try and figure out what but im leaning towards WorldAdvancementAndProgression. Also have PlayerActivity, and YouAreBeingWatched but had issues before I put those in the modlist

cookie: do you htink its possible to prevent applications thatare used to 'play your own way' that basically undercut any mods ability to stop people cheating the game? ive seen people with no admin effectively having devcommands access with the stuff they do
No, you can only do so much but there will always be apps like CheatEngine and the like that can still bypass everything.
If a mod got created that started monitoring peoples PCs to stop random cheaters I don't think it would go very well with the community.
So AntiCheat + ServerCharacters + manual admining is pretty much what you can do atm.

PlayerActivity does create player logs daily
The logs can include but are not limited to; interactions with objects, commands used (if any), and any other suspicious activity
i see that, im asking if those are sufficient to detect cheatengine style interaction, i always assumed thwy would be a layer under the game itself and therefore probably undetectable to mods
CheatEngine works by modifying the memory so no, this wouldn't catch that.

@velvet nimbus ive been finding that - whille/before sending them the deets - telling people very clearly "do not import/do not cheat" or just asking them "have you ever used any kind of cheat applications in valheim? becasue if so DO NOT do that here" can be very useful; they tend to realise that's not welcome and know they wont be able to resist the urge, so they bail befoee they even join.
but not everyone is reasonable

Theoretically, you could create a .sh or .bat file that accesses the log file and sends you an alert on finding a particular entry in there.

the small amount of log filtering i have done to capture serverup/down,joins/ids is a bit of a pain in the ass with all the buffering that needs ot happen between awk/sed/greps

I meant using the PlayerActivity log not the server log. And I have no idea what you meant but I got the gist of it. So, ok. If your server logs are too big, just delete them in the script after the analysis and let the server start a new log.
you may have already considered this but the ability to view coords as an animated map overlay, with a timeslider, would be very tasty, and so much more useful than raw data

You can go to like the servers IP and see a live map of your world and where all the players are.

not too big; i mean console logs dont like being split off the main log withteeand then filtered, they need buffering for it to work and the more filtering you do the more tedious it can get... especially withFound UnityPlayer, hooking into it insteadramming itself into everything. Plus it can be difficult to correlate each logged line to its actual event, like correlating steam id with a player name for example; they dont always transcribe in a way doesnt still require the user to try to match data from one line to data in another preceeding/successive line.
I and another server owner have had a recurring issue with YouAreBeingWatched where when we're in debugmode (admin) and we try to map teleport by ctrl+middlemouseclick, we're met with a permanent black screen and we're forced to disconnect and relog. Otherwise it seems to work fine
so coords for a player(s) can be played back in some semblance of real/compressed time as a visual, not data, represention... like what you described as live server map, but with a timeslider so coord data can be examined as playback or at individual points along the timeline

Hey, question, is there a mod that's updated to be able to scroll in the hammer menu? I have too many pieces for the grid size and because of that I only see the first few pieces of each category :/ I tried extended using BuildExpansion but it won't display anything.

it lets new player in after a reboot, but after some time any new players will just get a black screen when the game normaly shows a still image with some advice at the bottom of the screen
i usually reboot the server when someone says it dropped them back to the menu
it has never denied access to existing players afaik

Who here knows Brandon Sanderson, specifically the mistborn series?
I have a 16 page document detailing how I could see allomancy and feruchemy (and even possibly hemalurgy) implemented, how they would be simulated by and interact with existing game systems, and existing base game magic.
I'm very interested in experienced modders opinions on the feasibility of certain parts of it, especially steel pushing, iron pulling, and bendaloy/cadmium time bubble powers
Those I think would be the least likely to work, and might need a new game/engine but the rest I'm extremely optimistic about being able to fit into valheim game systems.
I think the way I've imagined how the powers work in the game would be very fun and relatively simple to use once you know how to (hard to master for some), and would slot very logically into existing gameplay systems.
They would be op, but not as much as you might think (at least early game), and wouldn't negate any existing gameplay loops or mechanics, but rather enhance them
I think out of all the games I know of, valheim is the best one to mod allomancy and feruchemy into.
Anyways, I just rejoined after a year of being away, so I don't have any sharing perms, but if anyone is interested, DM me and I can send the doc or a link to a google doc, and you can share it from there
I don't know how to mod, and I'm certainly not expecting that anyone will make this a reality without me paying them
Just looking for feedback from people who know how this actually works behind the hood
And if anyone is as excited by this idea as I am, I certainly won't be opposed to others trying to work on it
I love the mistborn series but might have an easier time and more potential with the project just creating a game from scratch

Server side means the mod goes on the server. Client side means it goes on the game.

Not all mods work like that but many do, yes.

Hey gang, I rent a server from valhost. my four friends and i are now in the ashlands and of course it's bad lag. I was thinking of trying better networking, but not sure how to set it up when using a rented server. any help would be appreciated on navigating this! not sure it'll work, but I want to try whatever I can.

All of us are on the east coast except one person. I’ve seen people say a vpn works but I don’t understand how
vpn wont really do anything the distance is still the same from player to player, betternetworking usually hurts more than helps. The best solution is "less", less buildings, less chests stored all in one area, less fire and other light sources. spread builds out a bit more so that stuff isn't all in one loaded area.

To clarify, the main problem is that valheim is passing the control of the zone to the first player in that zone. So if your friend who is far away is the first in the zone then he will control the zone and run all the simulations in the zone. Everyone else will be bottlenecked by their cpu and roundtrips to their pc. The server just acts as a relay passing info to everyone.
if they leave the area (portal or logout) control will shift to someone else
Right, that we figured out. We figured out who had the best connection and rig and have them go first but once there’s more than two people it still shits. So we were thinking of better networking

i haven't found a solution, it's not really a network speed issue. it's a topology issue imo. Also, there doesn't seem to be any predictive simulations. You could also try CombatOwner, but i have heard mixed things about it.

Multiple players on server are saying mistlands has been worst than before with creating lag. Anyone know any mods that have helped with mistlands lag? Not looking to clear up mist or anything like that 😛
Is the server using -crossplay? And, if so, can you remove it or do you need to support Xbox users? Removing crossplay changes the comm routes and may reduce the lag. Removing it means no more Join Code so you need to use Steam's server list or the server's IP address:port to join.
my wife plays with us, she's our farmer. she's the only person on xbox but she never leaves a little farm i built her that is way far away from anything else

We do have the networking mod installed but still mistlands lag. Was just wondering if anyone had a known sulution for specifically mistlands
FYI: The networking mods only do any good when they are installed on all players game's as well as on the server. Otherwise, they don't help with the comm traffic.

Also, if you can identify specific player(s) who have a laggy connection, they mey be able to improve it with the use of an internet tunneling app. And don't forget to check on individual player's possible problems with their local PC performance. Such as background tasks, resource issues, internet connection issues, etc.
Tunneling apps are usually free for residential use and can streamline a connection between player and server (or the playfab network relay location, in the case of using crossplay). An example of a tunneling app would be Cloudflare's Warp app.
Thanks but they are fine in every biome except mistlands +. Im really asking about solutions for lag in those specific biomes
Right, then the only possible approach there would be to turn down some of the graphics settings on the game.
Oh, and being 'fine in all other biomes' doesn't rule out comm issues as the culprit for log. Those biomes are simply more demanding and so that's where the problems show up.
Well they do boast that they have a 4070ti (or similar between the ~6 players) so they may have all settings on
Remind them that being able to locally process all the extra graphics load with a premium graphics card doesn't mean that they don't still have to contend with the extra comm traffic that also needs to be handled.
So something like "Just because your graphics card can render all settings doesnt mean that valheim is optimized to receive all this data to your computer as fast"?
More or less... But optimizing Valheim isn't always the problem. Lousy comm routes are more likely, actually.
Haha just something to convince them to lower their settings because they are convinced their cards should be able to run a game that looks like valheim no problem 🤣
It's not so much the 'look' of the game graphics as it is the 'activity' of the graphic effects. Two different things there.

Using crossplay means that everyone, including the server, has to go through an external MS playfab network relay station rather than directly connecting with the server to player route.

that really sucks, because we all have really good internet and pc's so we were confused why we'd still be having lag issues. not saying turning this off would stop that but. man, that stinks.
It certainly adds another layer of complexity and possible problems to the whole situation.

So I saw a list of server side mods compatible with crossplay including console + have been trying to learn scripts that run on Expand World Prefabs. My plan was to create a server that required no modpack to be downloaded while still having cool non-vanilla stuff available. Is this possible or did I misunderstand the capabilities?
Server side only mods can do some good QOL things for you but nowhere near as much as game mods can do. It's worth a good look but don't expect too much.
There has to be a kit somewhere that you can buy that disguises a windows laptop as a macbook!
Oh, and I'm almost positive that ExpandWorld needs to go on both the server and all the player's games, too.

I suggest you pick the one that seems to suit your preferences best and is recently updated for the current game version and give it a try on your solo game to see how it works with your other mods.
Last time I used them they weren't great but that was a long time ago and they've likely improved since then. GL with it!
so, first time i have been able to use youarebeingwatched, but it's locked up on the name,spectate,inventory dialog. Game is still active in background, but i cant click anyhting with mouse and cant dismiss the dialog. Do you hard-bind any keys or otherwise assume people always use wasd keys by any chance?
console/inv still responds, but opening map opens inv instead, and i have no idea how to get this off my screen, escape does nothing... any ideas aside from alt-f4?
i had hammer active when i first hit f6, so i can see the repair and object healthmeter open above the yabw dialog...no response from anything though. It's a bit of a showstopper.

Hello I'm used to playing the game There's something that makes me stop playing after a few hours every time It's this damn obligation to necessarily need a workbench to build, it makes me psychologically unstable. What's more, the zone is small, so you have to build a lot of workbenches everywhere. It's unbearable. By any chance, do any of you know of a mode that removes this restriction?
I'm guessing that workbench upgrades don't extend the build radius as much as you'd like?
Once it's been upgraded to the maximum, it's okay, but I'm talking about the beginning of an adventure, or even if you just want to build a little hut Eh Ben, you have to build a workbench, I have to build in the area If I want a bigger area, I have to upgrade it and blah blah blah. In short, it bores me
I just don't like the gameplay of having to build a workbench to have fun. So I'm looking to remove this feature with a mode if possible.

It's not in the world modifiers menu, you enable that with Devcommands while inside the world

And you still have to enable devcommands first

tried it again today, at first it didnt seem to work, but after making sure i wasnt holding anything (weapons/hammer)i was able to spectate, but there was no character anywhere in sight, not even after allowing for the world to render, but after cycling to another player and back a few times i was able to see the characters...and it seemed to work as expected. Initially it was pretty weird due to the absence of players though.
But when i tried to view inventory it wouldn't. I think it was having an issue with smoothbrain-backpacks auto-opening the backpack inv panel, becasue i could see it rapidly slide out from the side of the screen and back again, but there was no player inventory panel. I'll try disabling open-backpack-with-inv and/or dropping the backpack next time i get a chance to test it.
that probably means you need ot invoke devcommands, and maybe also debugmode first

You can try my IdentityCrisis mod but you don't fully become the creature but it's as close as you can get for now.
I can make creatures you can become though and they retain all attacks and it feels natural to play as one.

If I make a command in my game it will tell me it's active, but it doesn't work if, for example, in the launch options in customization, I set the doubts to times 2 or times 3. Technically, it says it's time 2 and time 3, but when I pick up a pebble, I get one, even if it's time 3, nothing works

How do I play Valheim with the better continents mod with vortex?
I'm really new with the vortex interface and mods and all that. When I click on the play button on the top left for valheim in vortex, the game opens but I don't see any of the maps or mods anywhere. I downloaded a middle earth map and it isnt there in the worlds list

Hey! Today ive found out that its possible to have 'server side' mods so that xbox players can also use them. I had to stop playing valheim due to my immense fear of ticks. Perhaps anyone knows where should i look for more info about that? I doubt theres a mod made that changes ticks into different model etc but it would be a start if i could find out if thats even possible to have on server and not client side

And the solution someone had was
'I ended up making a Creature Level Loot Control config to spawn ticks with 0 health and as a backup give them 0 move speed, damage, etc.
It solves 99% of the issue. Occasionally the ones that spawn in ribcages are still there, but they cant move and die in 1 hit.'
But i assume it's client side rather than server, and xbox cant use any mods on its own
You can use Expand World Prefabs on server.
Either to completely to remove ticks or replace with some other creature.

So Tick would be replaced with "Fake Tick" that is a Seeker with half health and damage. On death it would drop usual drops + the Tick drop.

@daring basin I havent had a chance to really test youarebeingwatched's inv peek, but i did recently disable backpack auto-open-with-inv and contentsWithin's auto-peek, but still couldn't see the target inventory. So its either a more significant conflict with a mod rather than it just being soft-stomped because those things open their own inv-related panels, or (seems less likely) maybe somehting to do with my keys not being defaults (i use KP_End to open inv); i say that becasue it's a common issue for modders to assume everyone uses wasd and its an issue for those of us who dont. Theres also nothing appearing on the server console when i do this aside from echoing that i have activated devcommands and debug. So I'm sorry I'm not really very helpful on this issue, aside from being able to say it doesnt work at all in my mod context.

Really strange as the only custom key is F6 to open the custom UI and then a button and the rest vanilla handles.
Could maybe add commands so like yabw_inventory playername to open a players inventory?
This would bypass the custom UI and maybe that would help.

f6 works, but after i click inventory button next to a player it does nothing, and pushing my inv bind just shows me my inv

I have been using valheim-map.world/ to look at my world seed. I can see that I can add markers and other stuff to the map. If I do that will it show up for anyone that is looking for the same seed? Or does it just change on my view. I wanted to cross some stuff off and place where my portals are but I don't want to mess it up for others. I looked around and I cant find anything about it.. so I came here to see if you guys would know. And if it does how can I add those to just I copy for me? Turf roofs - does anyone seen good mod for turf roofs?
My BuildPieces mod adds some grass roofs.
I have mentioned this before, but the issue is because the mod uses the default debug "freefly" camera.

That said, i assume it is serverdevcommands which enables or augments YABW in the multiplayer context. SDC allows rebinding theflyup and down controls (which are normally set to wasd side of kb - and i assume whst you refer to as hard coded). So thats no problem for me aside from weird initial rendering, which is to be expected.
Sure, but you mentioned issues with the keybinds. I'm telling you why it's an issue. I had fixed that in my version a long time ago.
Inventory peek silently fails because of other mods you're using. Epic Loot, Jewelcrafting etc. The mod would need to make explicit compatibility with it.
Depending on the inventory mod of choice, you might also have to read the invisible rows or custom data to see it all.

yeah, i change mods like i change clothes, so unless its NOT one of the mods thats become core to any new server i start, or i do some elimination testing on the ~80 mods currently at play... it may take me a while to figure out where the issue lies. I want the functionality, so for now the mod is still in the list despite it not being fully operational in my particular case. If i find the culprit i'll be sure to ask for a fix though.
It’s very likely a mod that adds data to items. Epic Loot, Jewelcrafting, Backpacks, etc.
Or, an inventory mod. Since that would cause the RPC of items to and from the admin to silently fail of invalid data is there.

The thing is that the yml works, but nothing results in a functioning effect... not even when i use the example effect off the example doc on thunderstore: effect: SE_Warm
As usual my superpower: GrOsS OvErSiGhT may be at fault, but any other time i brute force my way through a code issue when I'm half asleep it will eventually work. But in all the time I have spent on effect: it has never once worked.

Looks like i needed to restart the game. ffs. every other aspect of the backpack i have tweaked in realtime without restarts/reloggging.... evidently this isnt one. I'm surprised it hasnt spontaneously worked before though... i guess i always had non-functional fringe test-cases still active each time i gave up and ragequit.

is it even possible to disable upgrades?
I had to set some rare item as req for the upgrade to "disable" it.
Also I wanted to set maxstationlevel = 1 but seems not possible for custom backpacks, it only exists in the main cfg file.
And the way things override each other in the cfg and yaml are confusing.
in my experience with not including any upgrade section in the yml it would randomly break everything... mostly by sometimes backpacks wouldnt appear at all

Hookgenpatcher doesn't have anything to do with backpacks btw.

you should totally +1 any of those suggestions/feature requests that appeal to you on the git... we might eventually get one or two
also; re upgrades: at one point i was making packs with item restrictions, for specific build ingredients.... normally i hate this idea but the need for an upgrade section had me consider packs for boats and teleporters, becasue i like the idea of a gobag which already has the ingredients in it to just grab on a mission specific basis and leave with. My boat/portal packs' single upgrade was an additional slot for wood, so wood for a workbench could be included. So it was kind of redundant, but it meant i had an upgrade sectionin a pack that i didnt actually want ot be upgradeable.

If i want to use mods with my friend how does that work
You load the mods on your game and start the server. He might or might not need to load the same mods on his game in order to join the server.
He'll get an error msg. explaining what mod(s) he needs to add or remove from his game to connect to and play on your server.
In general, try to have the same mods on both your games. Especially if they add custom building pieces. That's a disaster if you build something custom and he comes along without the mod.
Hi, I am trying to install mods again after 2 years break from the game as I want to start again. A few of them are .rar and I cannot extract them with 7-zip though - does anyone know why this is? The main one right now is MapSyncMod
All of the mods on Thunderstore are zip.
The only mods that exist on nexus only and not thunderstore are some hd texrues and models.
preferred way is to use a mod manager like r2modman or Gale or thunderstore manager.
But you may do it manually if you know what you're doing.

I've removed all build pieces from my server setup recently, mostly for the benefit of low vram players, but prior to that I found myself using wackydb to prevent all of modded stone from multiple piece mods from being flammable. ... i was surprised i even had to do that.
I have a mosaic screenshot of all of the panels to remind myself what your mod contains, but I dont recall actually using it... Whish is weird because stone pieces are what im usually wanting.
Also maybe you know the answer to this: why do some mods columns suck at being stacked? I like the valkea columns, but they almost always refuse to be stacked 2 high... and the snap points kinda suck if all you want is a top and bottom surface centroid snap.
I assume it has something to do with the bounding box, but dont know if thats an automated game engine thing or a modmaker thing. I dont see any stacking strength related info if i export the wackydb yml for any columns, and it doesnt seem to relate to health.

Only the wood pieces are able to burn in my mod.
If you make stone pieces and then set then to be stone in Unity then they will just fall apart when building.
So what I do with my pieces that's stone is set them to Hard Wood so you can actually build with the stone pieces.
I plan on reworking the snappoints for my BuildPiece mod to add more.
First I need to write a script for Unity to automate this, I'm not doing manual snappoints for 300+ pieces.

I don't think so yet but that's a neat idea. I made a mod Muted Mist that makes it more see through all the time. Having random weather changes to the transparency could be something I could expand upon in the future hmm

Yeah, I’ve always thought it would be cool if there was regularly big clouds of mist rolling through, but it was also frequently clear, kinda like how there are small clearly patches within Mistlands already. Maybe 50/50 clear and misty.

It's not my first playthrough. I beat the queen multiple times, and chose to enter Ashlands on my very hard combat difficulty playthrough.

There are at least two different mods that give you early game magic. You can find them over at thunderstore.io. If you choose one, make sure it's updated for the current game version.

I think your damage looks reasonable. The cost might depend on how easy it is in your game to collect coins, but it also looks reasonable to me. If anything, I like to give mages a bit of an edge as they're mostly pretty vulnerable except in multiplayer.

I also found out the confic editor is very useful and you can obtain info about a mod or change the mod quite easily there in R2modman. Also found the solution to my question s about the bone control mod!

Hello everyone, new viking here. Played vanilla for a few days and decided that I am ready for some mods, but want already cooked and ready to play modpack. Any recommendations?
I'd search over at thunderstore.io in their 'modpak' section and see what comes up. Some are for personal servers. You don't want those.
If any of the others look good to you, just be sure and get one that's been updated for the BogWitch game version.
Midgard perhabs? You could use the download count filter on R2modman and search for "Modpack," to see the most popular ones.

Does anyone know of anything that fills a role similar to server characters, but is server only? I was thinking of something that basically just compared inventory/levels on disconnect/reconnect and kicked if mismatched
Just a thought, you know if you use AzuAntiCheat you can force users to use the ServerCharacters mod with it. Won't work for crossplay and Xbox users, of course.
Id like to stay vanilla compatible to avoid forcing people to download mods

You may be able to get notified if/when a player violates a rule but it would take someone making a custom script to also get that player automatically removed. No mod does all of that yet.
That could be a big step in the right direction, when you say "violates a rule" what exactly do you mean?

Yes that's how they do it. Whitelist and watch. As an admin you can use a couple of powerful admin mods, fly as a ghost so players can't see you and you just spawn a 2 star troll on them 😅
However, that one needs to be client side, too.

I'm more afraid of the mods than bringing items. cheat weapons can be blocked easily with Expand world prefabs. Very powerful mod but there's learning curve to it. some scripts are simple and easy to find.
I was looking into it but it looked more like adding custom behavior to items rather than server management. But im sure i didnt get very deep into what it can do

No problem. But yeah, there are ways you could get a ton of info, but not the inventory directly. You’d also just be making educated guesses mostly
What would be possible for a serverside-only mod is to check equipped items against a list of forbidden or non-vanilla items and even take items from a players inventory (but the mod cannot see the inventory). Basically anything you can see other players do/wear in mp, the mod could detect as well. It may even be possible (although very hacky) to determine skill levels.
However, the mod would be powerless against client-side mods which changed the stats of existing items (and any number of other changes I did not think of).
This was purely theoretical however, I don't know if such a mod actually exists, although some of it can be done with EWP, as mentioned. I thought about implementing some of it in ServersideQoL, but decided against it for the moment.

Some of them might be old and not working with the current game version. You can try creating a new profile with thunderstore.io's r2modman manager and load the mods fresh in there from thunderstore.io.
And while you do that, check the date each mod was updated by it's author. Anything older than about 7 months is suspect.
So a huge chest with every item on it, then trigger auto stack on the player to vacuum all of their stuff.
Then if ok, move player items to another chest and trigger take all for the player.
But still, so many ways to circumvent that.
Sadly, I don't see a lot of options out there for that.

You can check the configs part of your mod and edit values there. Maybe attack speed is in there.
You do have the WackyEpicMMOSystem mod, in which you can increase attack speed (through spending skillpoints into dexterity I believe)?

Search the word in R2modman (set filter on download count), I remember there being a few. But there is an equipment one (equipmentandquickslots) and one that extends your inventory (AzuExtendedPlayerInventory) and one for loadouts.
You do not need Equipment And Quickslots if you have AzuExtendedPlayerInventory.
AzuEPI gives quickslots and equipment slots.

Before you even start, you should switch from nexusmods to thunderstore.io. Nexus is good for other games but doesn't tend to work well for Valheim. On thunderstore, you should also d/l and use their r2modman mod manager to install and manage your game and server mods.

Claiming that by using Thunderstore and r2, you wouldn't stumble on "popular" mods that are outdated, and wouldn't have issues trying to load them, are not true. Nexus is the larges community, of course people are using it. Are many creators done with Nexus, and moved over to Thunderstore? Sure. Are everything on Nexus outdated? No.
No one should recommend or support Nexus that play Valheim.
Nexus doesn't support Valheim so we shouldn't support Nexus.

I would gladly recommend using all mod sites that provides the mods you as a play would like to use. Can you expect help and support from everyone on the internet for every strange mod you downloaded from a strange corner on the internet? Of course not.
Valheim mod creators are a small part of the modding scene, and for reason important to them, they choose to move from Nexus to Thunderstore. And good for them, you do you. But to talk down on other communities / sites, are strange to me. In my opinion that tells me that there are unresolved inner conflicts / feelings involved. I find it wrong to shame mod users from one community, just because they are not using the site you prefer.

The should kind of implied subjective opinion, but it is objectively true at this point that NexusMods is the inferior source for Valheim mods. I've used Nexus for many years and am still partial to it, but I cannot in good conscience recommend anyone use it for Valheim modding other than to contact mod authors
I will talk down on it, they remove/ban mods over personal beliefs. They have a weird Terms of Use that conflict with most author's licenses on their mods, basically saying they own your mod when you upload it there. They were always about making money off mod authors compared to other mod sites that do not offer premium memberships.
Gravebear makes good points, they've really gone down hill in recent years. They removed a mod for Oblivion Remastered that changed the text in character creation of body type 1/2 back to male/female (they reinstated it after massive backlash). They've removed mods that changed rainbow flags to a nation's flags. Numerous other examples of political bias in what they allow from mods. The ToS change to claim ownership of your mods was so egregious I practically got myself banned with the vitriol I was spewing on their forums

Nexus offers manual install only and if you do try and use the modmanager it will break Valheim.

Not that they are saying they own your mod, but they dont exactly let you remove your mod should you want to. You can only "hide" it and then it's still accessible if someone added to a "collection". That is another weird idea they had where people can create a modpack and earn download points off your mods.
Sorry, I haven't had much experience with either of those mods, although I believe they're both well supported, well designed and do get along well with other mods.
And, just to add to the confusion, don't overlook RtD's Magic mod as well. That one sounds like it could add more content but that's just a guess on my part.
They all really do seem like they're very much alike. I wonder if you could just use them together and get the benefits of all three at once? 😄
I thing you are wrong. Some here are very harsh on Valheim players that have been to Nexus for mods to Valheim. Nexus can never be better then the mod authors that upload there. And some of you made a choice to mod away from Nexus, and that is your right.
I use Vortex for Valheim, and have no issues. Yes, the manager can be a pain for Valheim, for sure. So it's no walk in the park for brand new modders for Valheim, IF the player run into problems. If a user don't figure out the problems, I totally understand that a recommendation for r2 are the right move forward for that player.
And a lot of good mods are only on Thunderstore. But so are some only on Nexus as well. That decision is for the mod author where the mod should be uploaded to. And for the player to decide where to download from.
And since this isn't (as far as I know) a Thunderstore-only discord, I can only wish that users here are neutral on what mods/sites/managers Valheim player prefer to use. If a discord-user has issues with a mod/site/manager you personal don't support, then don't help them.

Vortex literally breaks Valheim which forces the user to reinstall Valheim.

how does using mods work with dedicated server? if im running the server on my pc that im using to play does it just automatically enable them on server too? with mod manager
You're aware that at least four of the people you're badmouthing right now are some of the biggest mod authors in the game, right?
It does not, if you're using the dedicated server tool. The mod manager has options for Game/Server (if using r2modman/Thunderstore Mod Manager)
That requires additional setup to make them work in that fashion.
If you're launching the server via the in-game menu...then yes. You become the "server" for anyone that joins you. For better or worse.

It should live update. Unless you're connected to a server that is forcing the configuration on you.

Is there a way I can make the dverger unhitable? I don't mean it like taming them because they act differently after being tamed. I built a dverger post near my house to keep my area safe, if I spawn wild dvergers near the post they will always stand nearby the post and come back to potition after they fight (like those dvergers in the mistland. While tamed dvergers don't get back in their potitons they just keep on wandering

Well, I've given up on MagicPlugin and Wizadry and RtDMagic mods. None of them gave me a decent start in the game as a mage character. Near as I could tell, I couldn't really depend on magic until about half way through the BlackForest. And even then it was just too complicated.
The good news is I've found what I wanted in the magic of the NorseDemigods mod. It's just what I was looking for right from the start of the game. And it looks like it allows a good bit of customization, if I want to tackle that later.
Same mod uploaded to both sites are identical. So how can a mod downloaded from Nexus and manually placed in plugin folder "create trouble and problems for players"? That you prefer Thunderstore, and not Nexus, are totally up to you and totally fine. You do you. Why others have to agree and do the same, is strange to me.

Search isn't really helping when I don't know what I am looking for. First playthrough so every time I get new material I don't know what kind of items I unlocked and which are better for current biome which are worse. I have few mods that add armors and weapons, thus seeing them grouped would be nice instead of one massive list

Your Steam ID should be 17 numerical digits. One ID per line and nothing else on that line in the Adminlist.txt file.

You have the eggs and different growth stages, you can only ride the adult I think.
You gotta feed it and shit...
I hatched one a little while ago. Put the egg on a fire and that only took half a min. or so. Fed it and hung around with it for an hour or so and it grew once to the stage after 'hatchling' but never grew after that. Could saddle it and ride it but not fly with it. Might just need more time to become an adult, dunno. Kept it fed and 'happy'.
He was just a hatchling when I left your server. I seem to remember now that only a couple of the dragons in that mod actually grow up all the way to adult. But that was years ago.

Anyone have a guide of some sort as to how to setup a dedi server. Step/Step. My friends setting one up, and he's set up many many dedi servers. He's following guides/AI and for some reason he CANNOT get this server to launch.

Then, you can look in your log files to see if there's errors there that would explain the problem.
There aren't any errors being displayed is the prob. Game crashes upon launching.
Anddd someone else was hosting w/o being a dedi. But now that we want a 24/7 server being ran, the problems are happening. 🤷♂️

also when in vanilla I started the server from .bat file with few of my own configurations, if I want to do that again do I start new .bat file with that %* in the end and not from r2modman "start modded" button? So will that my own .bat and r2modman somehow work together to know what mods it should run and so on?
ok the .bat doesnt seem to pull any mods, so where do I edit some .bat that is the right bat that "start modded" uses?
My vanilla .bat is sufficient for loading mods provided correct bepinex is installed where it should be and there are no orphaned files from an outdated bepinex installation

I got the server working last night by adding mods with r2modman and then copied those files into the server folder, today I tried adding few new mods but the .bat screen just disappears after it loads some stuff, I tried to remove those extra mods but it still keeps doing that
found the issue finally, I accidentally had deleted x86_64 folder from valheim_server_Data / Plugins folder when I deleted mods and added more

Some of the mods have version checking and will kick players if installed on the server, some don't work client only for example wackyDB, PlanBuild,PortablePals to prevent cheating.

guys does mod load order matter anything? and like do i have to do manual bs for the mods like changing code or smth? so far i removed all the mods that shown red text when booting up the game but it keeps spamming something unity error about "string" written in red when im in the lobby and when im in the actual server i just cant move and i keep "equipping sword" and i dont have any crafting recipes it looks cursed af lol
i think i over modded it with around 110 and they may be conflicting just bepin isnt showing it

I think you have too many mods that do the same thing. For examle I'd pick either rtd mods or the others but not both. Same for magic mods I'd pick either Therzie or magicPlugin. And a lot of others that add creatures, I think I'd keep Therzie's monster, Cookie and Marlthon's creatures and remove the others for now.
Here is the list of mods of which some are broken and others I don't know cause I've never used them but I'd disable them to see if there are still any errors.

It takes time and experience.
The mods also have config files if you wanna tweak the settings.
And to make the playthrough balanced, it's almost impossible or would take a lot of time to figure out all the configs. Even for a few mods like 50 mods when I go through the configs it's like reading a book or studying for exam 🤣

If you want a complete fine-tuned modpack JewelHeim has a couple like JewelHeim and Relicheim. Also some of the community servers have working modpacks.

I think it changes the way the game tracks the ZDO comm traffic of your game. ZDO stands for Zeta Delta Objects which in this case probably means new comm packets rather than 'objects'.
The ZDO info shown in the F2 window may indicate how busy your comm link is with 'new' comm packets, as opposed to 'resent' packets (due to packets dropped by unstable hops in your comm route which need to be resent and which are being ignored by the ZDO info there).
That's just a guess on my part, though. Personally, I'd just not bother using it until someone who knows what they're talking about tells you to start using it.
If I remember correctly, Valheim now sends data updates to one player every 0.05 seconds.
So if you have 10 players, players get data synced every 0.5 seconds.
The problem is that Comfy server can have like 100 players so a player gets data only every 5 seconds.
Which probably causes visible desync.

Multiple mods can do that. Here are two of mine that can.
AzuWorkbenchTweaks if you want generic crafting station changes like that.
Build Camera Custom Hammers Edition if you want to be able to adjust that as well as build easier by free-fly camera. (please note, this mod is mostly meant for builders and default configuration range being 100 will more-or-less prevent raiding on your base, change the setting if you wish to not have that happen)
Not sure if there are others, but I'd imagine there is.

Some of your mods are too old and not updated by their authors for the current game version.
SagesVault, EpicValheimsAdditions, GreylingMinions, and the the ones by Neurodrome are just a few.
You need to go through them all, check their web pages, and remove the ones not updated for the BogWitch game version (within the last 8-9 months, or so).

The mod list you're working with here is fine. You just need to go find and remove 7-8 old mods and you'll be doing great. Also, try to avoid having two or three mods doing the same thing, when you can. The age thing is more important, though.
You need to get used to checking your mods like that anyway. Otherwise you're likely headed for other problems in the future.

Remove FPSplus mod and be patient. It'll take a longer time to load all that. Maybe 5-10 minutes even depending on your PC. Time it with your watch.
If you are changing the options while in game with the configuration manager, try also then changing them in the actual .cfg file in your BepInEx > config folder after getting out of the game. Some mods need you to do that, others don't.

I have a server with a sweet, sweet world that I love to just spend time in and explore. It takes a RL full 8 actual minutes to finish just the Loading part.

There's a long "Loading" part that comes first. With nothing but a black screen to watch. That's where the patience comes in...
And that's after the world has already been created before.
It is at start. The problem is the "Generating ..." wheel at the bottom right is full up but spinning, and the mod loader isnt showing updates. Ive loaded a game where I had like 100 mods to start and nothing took this long.

So at this point I am gonna finish waiting for ten minutes. If there is progress then good. If not, I dunno. This is only fifty mods, no red errors in loader.
If you generate a new world, it will tell you what its generating and if it doesnt do that, it's not progressing.

Nothing too specific yet. Got a feature request for my mod and what they wanted sounded a lot like what yabl does, except it would have to work without client-side mods. So, I thought I'd ask if that's something your mod might cover in the future. If you don't see that happening, I might try my hand at it myself.
I guess the root "issue" is that servers that want to be vanilla/xbox compatible are a bit left in the dust when it comes to anti-griefer mods/measures

The first two should go together.
Sometimes none of the mods help unfortunately Like bad WiFi or big distance between the players or some other network or hardware related issue.
If you want server-side mod then ExpandWorldPrefabs.
Or client side I use TastyChickenLegs-NoSmokeStayLit. But I think there are a couple of others that work well too.
Yes everyone has to have the mod installed for it to work, you need it on the server to control the configurations for everyone joining
I downloaded r2mod and made a profile. I had my wife download same profile via code. When she tries to join my server, she will just sit at a black screen instead of loading in. She can still hit escape and access the pause menu while its at the black screen. Also, i tried joining her (with the same mod list and everything) and im able to join just fine. Can anyone help?

Using in-game servers rather than a dedicated server, I assume. Using the Join Code to join up? You can also try using the internal IP addresses with port number to join as well.
The most likely problem is one of her mods acting up. Try both of you temporarily starting vanilla with no mods and see if the problem goes away. If so, then it's just a matter of finding which mod is causing the problem.
Yes, I know your mods are identical and only she has the problem. Try it vanilla and then trouble shoot the mods anyway.

i just tested to see which mod was causing an issue, and none of them are. i disabled half, no issue. kept doing it until i tested every mod. she joins through the in game list
And it runs fine in vanilla. she joins no problem.
How many mods? Can you provide a mod list? Does her game just time out and freeze? Does she get a symbol of any kind on the black screen in one of the corners? Is she using a 10 yr old laptop that simply can't handle it?
She can try re-verifying her game files from her Steam GUI and reinstalling her mods manually within r2modman rather than using the profile code you provided.

thats the mod list. when she selects my world to join, it asks for the password for the server, when she enters it, it just sits at a black screen instead of loading. shes able to hit escape and access the pause menu. she can literally log back out to the main menu from the black screen
she has a newer pc, she can run games just fine. ive also tried re verifying several times. the only thing i havent done is have her manually install mods
if you check #mods-screenshots thats the error message i think it gives when she tries to join
Some of your mods are over a year old. Remove those. I don't think the error msg shown there is relevant. I suspect one of your older mods is timing her out and crashing the game.
The game isnt crashing for her though. and like i mentioned. i can join her world just fine. IT wouldnt even be a problem but my world is the one we have progressed on. Not looking to start all the way over

Easy for some and impossible for others. Depends entirely on the server's situation and your own personal experiences with computer stuff.
So, there's no way to just give you a quick answer to your question. Just the fact that you've asked that question would seem to predict something of an uphill battle for you.

Hey guys! I am new to this server. I absolutely love Valheim and have a few hundreds of hours in. I want to step up my building game but keep the game as vanilla as possible. So plant everything came to my mind, just for decorative purposes ( I want to build a herb farm/witch kitchen etc) my guess is, because this mod is so popular, that it has already been discussed fully. I have never downloaded mods for Valheim. I only tried in Skyrim and completely ruined my game 😂 so I was quit anxious to try it again. Visit the thunderstore.io web site, join their Valheim community and download and install their r2modman mod manager. Spend a few miinutes exploring it and it's tabs and seeing how it works.
Then, you can use it to install and manage any mods you want to have. Just make sure any you choose those that have been updated by their authors within the last 8-9 months or so. You can easily check that date by opening up their web pages from within r2modman.

I meant the community of Valheim on thunderstore.io's web page. They support multiple games and so each has a 'community' there.
And, upcoming game updates will always require that most mods get updated for the new current game version. That mod updating usually takes a day or two after the game update. So, not a 'big' problem but something to be aware of for future reference.

Then type 'inventory' click search and then click Most downloaded and you will find it.
You're talking about two mods here, AzuEPI doesn't include backpacks.
The config for crafting should be where the rest of the config files are.

If you want to customize backpacks using the yaml file I recommend you to download JewelHeim-JewelHeim configs directly from thunderstore, you don't have to install the modpack just download the configs.

No, you have to click. But I recommend not to update unless really necessary.
When you update a mod you'll need to move/remove the old config file and let the new version create a new cfg, then copy your edits from the old one.

Yeah, you can edit the config via R2Modman config editor or an in-game config editor like one of Azumatt's. You'll have to launch the modded game once in order to generate the config file though.

Is your server using crossplay or not? If not, you need to have forwarded your server's two ports like the .pdf guide that came with it says.
Also, check it with no mods loaded on the server and his game to be sure whether it's mods related or not.
CreatureLevelAndLootControl lets you customize the bosses like you want. Also, world modifiers can set all combat harder, if you want to try that, too.

lodbias is a vanilla console command
but -- keep in mind valheim is an art style which is intentionally low rez
if you want high rez then you should look into the HD texture modpacks
ye i like the default graphics, its just that stuff far away is kinda blurry and hard to see, thats all i wanna fix if possible.

or depth of field
(in the settings under graphics you can turn off depth of field)

also look at the date the last time things were updated
and the categories tag: if it doesn't say bogwitch that means the author hasn't updated it for the latest version of valheim (usually, the author may have not tagged it correctly, this is just a possible clue as to recent update and compatibility)
and yes, mods do crash into each other. Read your error logs. LogOutput.log. It's located in the BepInEx folder.

i guess when a mod is truly broken/out of date, it clearly states "deprecated" on Thunderstore. At least i found a few of those.
Meaning if it doesn't say that, I should be some what ok trying it out i guess.
no, the author had to mark it that way... if they just abandon it then it won't be marked.
and some old mods do still work fine...
but if it hasn't been updated in years and it doesn't say Bogwitch then it's likely old and out of date.
but you can still try those... they may work. just read your console and log and look for ERROR
when things don't work, try running the mod by itself. see if the mod works in isolation. if it does then it's a mod conflict. if it doesn't then it's just broken.

Yes, there's a bunch of those. Choose one that's been recently updated by it's author, though.

Hey 😄 does anyone have any experience with using mods from Nexus Mods together with the R2Modmanager? I got a few running smoothly there but am thinking of trying some texture Overhauls. Those arent on r2modmanager. I love the looks of the game, but I am curious how some HD Textures might look on armor etc
Anybody else using AlmanacClassSystems and realize how broken the bard dmg song is? 🤣 The more you prestige, the more wild it gets.
Does TorchesEternal only pull wood from surrounding chests or does it pull all wood types? Like if I put finefood by a fire would it pop the finewood in there?
I don't know that mod. But in the vanilla code there are 14 pieces that have an option for infinite fuel.
It's a matter of switching that from off to on. If the mod is not doing that but checking chests it's a bad mod.
The mod is just pulling wood from nearby containers and putting it into the fire sources so you don't have to manually do it, it's not actually making them last forever
Which makes me think it's just hard coded for only the "wood" and "resin" items but I dunno as I've never used it!

But there you only need to build them and you do not need to keep any ressources nearby. Since my base is getting pretty big it is a true blessing to not run around my walls and refuel all my Sconces
Ya, I was looking at that one but I do perfer the concept of just having it siphon your resources from a chest since you still need to at least think about refueling it

Another idea increase MaxFuel: 6 and store the fuel there instead of a chest. Many ways to do it.

or, insted of nerfing fire fuel, you could give fire fuel a gamificiation aspect and have it be more meaningful than just light:

Does anyone know if i place bushes with plant anything and then remove it will the bushes ect still regen?
i play with some xbox mates but would like bushes at home
You pick the berries, and the bush still stands. I think also your xbox friends can pick those. Not sure if there will be some wanky stuff going on, if owner of the cell don't have the mod loaded, at the time a xbox user are interacting with a modded item.
they cant join if i have it installed the bush stays but i dont think it regens stuff atleast

Xbox user can join my dedicated server with Plant Everything installed, and it regrowth when picked. But I haven't tested very much what xbox user can't / sholdn't do with modded item.

Most client only mod will work for the clients that has the mod installed. But I've haven't tested with mods that implement new none-vanilla items/mobs, etc
I can imagine that will be strange for a xbox user.

Some do, some don’t. If it’s required on the server then no. It’s hit and miss. You can try and see what happens.

Well, the server ones of my mods you are using then none of my mods that run on the server will function without being installed on all clients. However, some of my mods that run on the client only can work without being installed on all clients. But, they are not really intended to be used that way so they may or may not work as expected. None of them work work on the Xbox client.
However, if you want mods that work with Xbox exclusively then they have to run only on the server. Inverse rules to my mods which use the server as a way to enforce the mod must be on all clients.
There is a nice mod called ServerQoL that’s dedicated for server only Xbox compatible gameplay.

ZenSign will partially work. You can see the values. But people without it won’t be able to see the values. Just the names.
ZenRedecorate will work as long as nobody else is around you.

You can try there for starts. That pack is all client side mods that do not require a server instance.

If you intend to connect peer to peer then you need to run a vanilla server.
i host when i play
That won’t work then. My mods are mostly intended for dedicated server setups. So they will see your host as the server and reject peers that don’t have the mods. To get around that you can run the server on your pc. It’s free in steam. Valheim server. Just run that and everyone can connect to that.

You run the server as vanilla. Point the server to your world file. Give it a password.
Then run your modded client and connect to the server ip. Tell your friend the ip.
I think actually you can connect via the in game Ui don’t need to share ip. Give it a name.
Make sure to shutdown the server gracefully. It needs to save.

ahh yes... ServersideQoL .. you can mix that with my mods and get a decent experience. Run that on the server for the xbox clients, then run a few of mine on your client for your own enhanced experience.

i got server running but its not using my world do i need to put the file path in the txt? or just its name
if you are on windows edit the .bat file and specify your world name after the world param
