hey y'all. i'm intending on using gportal + bepinex to make a 15-person modded server, for the first time. but one thing i wanna confirm - how much will my friends joining the server need to install and have locally?
Almost all of the mods.
i see. but they wont need to do much more than install them and let bepinex take care of things, right?
Best to use r2modman for the mods and that way you can give the players a profile code to easily load the mods on their games also using r2modman on their games.
does that work with gportal, do you know?
You can make it work with a little extra work. You'd need to make up the mod list on your game, get BepInEx installed on the server, then copy the mods plugins and config folders up to the server manually and restart it. The r2modman is mainly for player games, including yours, and a local dedicated server but yours isn't local.
i think i should be able to handle that, esp if it means the work for everyone else is minimised

When you get started with selecting mods and making your profile in r2modman, make a separate profile for the server. That makes it much easier to manage the server mods for any updates or changes there or whatever.
Are there dedicated servers available for hosting game sessions?
You can either host on your own computer or rent one from the countless game hosting services that exist.

Honestly, it does depend entirely on how both the game and the mod are coded. It's possible it could still work.
Considering both torches and candles use the same script and the TorchesEternal patch is literally one line of code, the probability is pretty high it works for candles

Is there a simple way to reduce the delay before stamina begins to regen?
fuling camps in my relicheim playthrough are more often empty than filled with fulings. any ideas as to what mod could be doing this?
Are they too near tar pits? The fulings don't always win fights with the tar things.
And Relicheim might introduce agressive mobs into the plains biome that don't get along with the fulings, too.
You can repopulate the fuling camps with a command from the ExpandWorld mod, if you want.
most werent close to tar pits
there were no drops nearby if there was some. only new mob is a panther and they dont seem to fight

I think you have to run it once without the start option and then a 2nd time with the start option. You may have to give it a couple minutes to run without any progression info msgs. so just be patient with it.
Make sure you've got a good backup copy of the world first. ๐

Any idea how I can easily tell what mod is causing the issue? I have 82 mods installed and the error only comes up after a while playing but leads to my fps getting lower and lower till I relog

Thanks, looks like I have a fair few that are outdated. If the error is talking about near and distant objects, could those objects be items? Maybe its a mod affecting items?
Could be. I'd suspect the oldest ones first and disable those as a test. And continue along those lines until the problem mods are identified.

if you have bepinexpack config thing where you can press F1 to manage mods, open that and go to wackyepicmmo and change UI elements to "none" or "0"

hello, anyone have a clue on why my mortar and pestle on blacks7ar's herbalist mod doesn't have any of the mod's potions?
I have reached the swamps now and it's as empty as ever
Check your logs to assure that the mod is loading without error. And then check the mod's config file to see that options you want enabled are actually enabled.
I use Torches Eternal and can confirm candles burn infinitely.
I have the logs all whites, no reds whatsoever, mod configs all enabled, only thing I can think of is it conflicts with potionplus somehow
Sounds like you're probably right about that. So maybe do a test with potionplus disabled to be sure?
Also, you can join the PotionPlus support over at odinplus discord server and see if they have an easy work around to get the two mods to work together.

Sadly that's not possible in Valheim or any games that uses heightmap terrain, not in the pick up and drop concept like MineCraft.
You can create swimmable pools, ponds, rivers and streams in Unity and then turn them into build pieces which I've done in my mods.
The best you can do without learning how to create your own mods is using Jere's tools to make areas with swimmable "water".

You should probably play the game together for a while and then decide what you want to add or what you want to 'fix'. Then, you'll be able to choose useful mods for whatever your personal situation turns out to be.

Ok, then go over to thunderstore.io and do a search for modpaks. Review the descriptions of the ones that come up first as those are the ones most recently uppdated and likely to not have problems like the older ones might.
Choose one of the mod paks to try and see how it goes. Don't use the ones that say they are for a particular server.
And, if you aren't already doing so, download and use the r2modman manager there. It'll make it so much easier to keep your mods updated and coordinated among all the players.
Hey everyone, I had a quick question, is it possible to use mods in the normal way, through nexus, if I rent a server for my friends and i?
Nexus doesn't work well for Valheim. The 'normal' way to use mods for Valheim is to use thunderstore.io instead.
Installing and using mods on a rented server depends on how the particular server host supports mods. Some don't allow them at all. Others make it easy in their own way.

if you want to play multiplayer with your own world file and a friend, both people need the same mods installed for them to work? what if one has it and another doesn't?
That depends on the mod. For example, if the mod gives the player a clock display, it doesn't matter it all players have that same mod or not.
But, if the mod creates new building pieces for a player who makes a building out of them and another player takes control of that game chunk, the building would disappear or collapse.
And if the mod creates new mobs to fight, the player without the mod won't see the mobs but they could still attack him.

It would depend on the server. Either it won't let you connect or it will and you'll create dangerously unstable buildings there. One or the other.

I use InfinityHammer for that, although I believe there are other mods that do it as well. You could search over at thunderstore.io and see what comes up. Choose one that's currently updated by it's author.
will that work on a server? I'm currently playing with friends on a dedicated server. I did see that one but was worried that it gave too much power since it sounded like it did more than remove the height limits XP
On a server, you'd need to have Admin status to use it.
I also saw one called nobuildrestrictions but I think the mod creator for that one typically doesn't update on thunderstore. I use some of his other mods

You'd need to be cautious and maybe spend some time with it on a solo test world. But, if you're going to be a builder, it's the mod you want.

You're going to want to use one of the in-game mod config managers with it. So that you can swich back and forth on the go with some of it's config options.

Hey, was using https://thunderstore.io/c/valheim/p/Dankheim/RaidProtectionMod/ and found a bug where it prevents damage from battering rams to fortress structure. Other than that issue, it has always worked as intended. That being said, does anyone know of any other mods that offer something similar?

I since added https://thunderstore.io/c/valheim/p/Gratak/StructureDamageTweaks/ but I am not seeing a way to disable enemy damage to player structures? I could be blind though. I see this line, "setconfig StructureDamageTweaks GlobalKeysMultipliers 0.2,0.2,0.3,0.5" and tried changing the first value to 0.0, but it defaults back to 0.1 as the lowest value. Not sure if thats right or not.

I don't know what you mean by 'status or "readme" file update'. But generally nothing updates on mods marked as 'deprecated'. If you have downloaded and installed a deprecated mod, you should remove it. Problem solved?

No i mean i did upload something to thunderstore and on the mod page it links to pages the i did not intend to be there, also listing someone else as author and advertising private server becuse i didn't pay enough attention on upload, sille me, i updated it and marked the mod as deprecated right away but it's not updating on the page, mod description etc
Well, there are modding author's discord servers where you might be able to get better and quicker advice on how to proceed with that. Azumatt has one, for instance as do others. You can generally find them on the author's mods pages.
to "update" a mod listed it requires you increase the version number in the Manifest
if you created a dll you should also build to that version and add that
Well theres more to it. Silly me, with help, I uploaded my first mod, but being overwhelmed with this whole endevour i did not double check provided readme. and manifest. files while being instructed on how to upload the mod. I saw something that looked like a code, got spooked and closed the tab. Now the page of mod and Dependency string contains advertisments and references I did not intend it to contain. I changed it and uploaded right away and marked the mod as depracated to limit visibility, but the page and Dependency string doesnt update. I do not want to advocate for, or condone use of drugs, politics, religion or make any manifest for that matter, especially on my first upload. I just want to make a little addition to Valheim
ok, then just leave it marked as and it will go away in time, eventually delete

Vanilla Valheim is like vanilla ice cream in that regard.

Well, there's at least two sides to everything in the universe. Just try to keep the side with the peanut butter and jelly on it facing up any you'll be fine in the long run. And, if you can't always do that, just clean it up and move on. Nobody'll notice. Usually.

yeah, most of us use r2modman or thunderstore mod manager, they are pretty much the same thing. Run the app, select Valheim as your game and then search for mods you want to use. Keep in mind that you should use updated mods, as mods that are 2-3 years old may not work.

InfinityHammer gives your hoe that ability. There are also other mods that will do that. You could find them with a search for "terrain" over at thunderstore.io. Choose one that's recently updated by it's author.

InfinityHammer has dependencies. That means you need to install those, too. When you do, your hoe menu has a lot of the options you want for terrain stuff.

No, I've never used that one. But it is up to date for this game version so it should work.

The mods are generally ready to use with their default configurations automatically loaded.
You can customize them if you wish by editing their configuration files. There's a button for that in the mod manager.

Visual mods like clocks or UI changes can be installed as pleased but all mods that adds content should be installed for everyone.

Yeah there should be an additional configuration file to the main where all the UI settings are: EpicMMOSystemUI.cfg. I usually turn the vanilla health/stamina bars back on myself. OldXPBar = true

I haven't double checked that but I believe it would work ok for that. Of course, it depends on how the server is configured for 'AntiCheat' or not.
hi, is there such thing as a mod that allows for further distances of craft improvements? for example, being able to make a large workshop/forge area and placing the equipment farther away for asthetic reasons? I am currently looking around but nothing directly to fix this is coming up. thanks!
I don't know of any mods that do that, although others in here might. Personally, I just bury some of the more annoying crafting 'accssesory' pieces in the ground. Or under the floor. Occasionally, I'll put one or another on a shelf. Works for me. ๐

Xboxes aren't designed for external mod usage. Even if you could find a way to change the internal hardware to get external mods into an Xbox, it would likely lead to MS PlayFab Account issues.
That's a 'personal preference' kind of question. It's whatever you feel like yourself that would make the game feel complete.
You probably could come up with a few QOL mods you like with a search or two over at thunderstore.io and go through the ones that come up there. Just choose ones that are recently updated by their authors. Like within 4-5 months or are tagged for the game's BogWitch version.

Tha game runs at like below 30 fps on xbox, imagine adding mods on top of that.
I downloaded the planbuild mod but the text looks like [piece_blueprint_capture_desc]. Any idea how to fix it? Other than that I think it runs well but I havent tested it lol
Are you using the latest version from thunderstore.io? Check your log files to see if there are any errors there that would explain it.

Also, check for any errors in your log files. One in the BepInEx folder and one alongside your worlds_local folder.
yea even some mods says Client - side they might not work because some of them required on server side
"client only" usually implies that it doesnt sync configs with a server or not required on the server, they should be tagging both client/server cause they use enforcement.
Your only option (until official mod support is added to the game) is a dedicated server with server-side-only mods. They are severely limited in what they can do however.

You might be surprised at how little a decent rebuilt basic desktop PC good enough to play Valheim can cost. I've purchased several over the years and have never had a problem with them.

ehh not the swamp but my mmo page has screen shots. this has 17 biomes, I doubled the games size in content. This does require a new world/character though for this experience. I've never really taken screen shots but I have some random youtube videos. I remade the Lich King from WoW with similar attack combos. Got addicted to unity lol.

Elf's are now friendly, and behave like Dvergers. An assortment of new deeepnorth monsters, sfx overhaul and more. Some things in the video will change, such as localization bug I noticed and one of the icebound will not be throwing fireballs like in video but instead arcane / ice.

rtdbiomes is just a biome overhaul, mmo is a game overhaul. new armor, weapons, monsters, loot, ect in the new biomes so not just lack luster content.

Hallo, I am mostly new to modding and was thinking of starting a new modded playthrough and was wondering what the general mods to try and get are. Obviously there's the most popular sorting options on thunderstore but I was curious what other mods most people could suggest. I think the game at a base is pretty balanced but what always made me sad is the lack of consistent build variety, lack of light armor in every tier, sometimes two handed weapons being phased out for one tier, no consistent dual wielding etc.
Was just interested to ask if anyone has an suggested mods to play with or start out with in modding

Hi Guys! I am in the process of setting up a dedicated server for me and my friends. We would like to make a slow progression server, basically remove boss stones, add eikthyr stone after 48 hours, and add back each boss stone 7 days after that consecutively. I was trying to get this to work with BepInEX rcon, but that does not seem to work the way i want. Currently i am thinking of setting up a dedicated valheim client machine with an admin user on it that will do the above via admin commands. If anyone has a better idea, or a plugin i might have overlooked i'm all ears.
TL;DR: Basically my question is:
- Is there a plugin that does slow progression like i described above?
- Is using a dedicated valheim game client with admin to execute commands the best way to achieve this?

Edit: I think i just found out that you cannot even run most admin commands on a dedicated server, so this whole thing is probably moot. The only option i can think of right now is (without actually coding a plugin that does this):
- create single player world, disable boss stones
- Copy single player world to dedicated server
- When new boss should be enabled, copy back the dedicated server world to my single player world
- etc.

Look into World Advancement Progression on Thunderstore to lock bosses.
But, if you ever did want automatic admin commands, like a world resource reset on a schedule, look into Cron Job as well.

Hey guys, I downloaded OdinHorse mod, and there is an armor Skogardmadr which gives set bonus. is it possible to dissable that set bonus? I cannot see it in config files
betterwards prevent raids I think
The simplest way would be just change the recipe to take something unobtainable, like a cheat sword, but that doesn't stop someone from bringing one into your world from another.
A second option would be to disable the recipe with WackyDatabase, but the mod is a bit of a learning curve.
If anyone is able to contact the creator of the EpicLoot mod can you please let them know the maths calculation on the "Coin Hoarder" perk is bugged. It's supposed to increase damage by X% per 999 coins held, diminishing greatly after 2k coins. But instead I'm gaining like 40% damage from holding only 30 coins. It'd diminishing yeah but crazy high increase off the bat. Maybe someone else can try on their end?
Have you tried JewelCrafting with Midnight mods epic Jewels? You can set up JC as an epic loot system, where you get cool gemchests as drops. There is even a greed perk with coins with epic jewels from midnight.

I'd have to see your config for that, it looks like to get a bonus damage value of 40% you would need an astronomical amount of either coins (1.e+459) or a similarly high effect value

From how I understand your question, then no. The way the game engine handles depth etc means it can't do 3d tunnels, it only sets a Z position to the ground, and that's where the ground is.
The only real exception is big rock formations, which you can dig under, and use as roofs. But that will restrict you heavily to where you find big rock formations and to whatever terrain you're in.
In theory, I guess you could use a mod that lets you spawn objects, and just spawn a bunch of flying rock formations in the air, to use as roof.

question. So im using ZedRedecorate mod to move chests, mods works for me on vanilla server. When i move chest from it's original place other player still sees where it was. But i had a few chests places before in a middle of my house, and they were moved using mod. Player can see those chests at where i moved them before, but newly moved ones are showing at original place. Maybe any one knows what makes for other player perspective to see moved chests?

The solution is to basically regenerate the object by creating a duplicate at the new position and removing the original.

In Enshrouded, you upgrade your flame, increasing your build radius. every level. I was wondering if it would be possible to make a tiered ward system, that expanded the warded area, starting small ish then getting larger per upgrade.

That way you dont need seed to regrow them, but they drop seed every time you chop and rebirth them. Same applies to the trees you plant. Afaik it shouldn't add additional instances for existing trees that are reborn either.
Or you could use shudnal-tradersExtended, and add a yml that includes seed. Then go purchase that 100 acorns from a merchant.

I've been using the expand world data mod to spawn in assets (like portals/iron veins) and additional mobs (with more than 2 stars) and chests with custom content during world gen.
It's obviously limited, but you can set properties (respawn time, max lvl, lvl up chance of spawners for example)

nah, you probably will want to verify the game files and have it reinstall the game first. It sounds like you were using nexus and then switched to thunderstore, nexus tossed some old stuff in your games folder.
Just delete the valheim folder in your steam apps, then in steam library right click on valheim and have it verify the files, it should download a clean copy of the game. After that in R2modman/Thunderstore app create a new profile and download your mods.
I'd like to add i had the same error when i was using nexus manager for valhiem prior to switching to thunderstore. But I will do all the steps you listed and report back! Thank you!

there isn't really any "zone ownership" it's sort of first in the area is loading the area around them.
I don't know of any mods that show who is loading what in areas, but I am sure it would look like a mess of names cause player 1 and 2 don't stand on top of each other at all times.

Here's an example of the command you would use to reset the world's coper rocks.
vegetation_reset rock4_copper biomes=BlackForest start
That command would take several miinutes to reset copper deposits in the world. To use it you'd need to be able to get the prefab name 'rock4_cpoper' of the copper deposits in the first place. So it's not an easy thing to do that everyone would be expected to be able to do without doing the research.
Maybe there are easier ways to reset the ores in your world but I personally don't know of any. Maybe someone else will.

I don't know. Personally, I've never wanted to limit that command to a smaller area so I've never looked that up.
does it respawn the ores in the same locations that you mined them or random locations?
It can be set to a radius at coords, and it'll respawn at same location but you can also run a different command to add resources.

building on Jaga's example, a 1500m radius would look like:
vegetation_reset rock4_copper biomes=BlackForest pos=X,Z max=1500 start
or you can do zones (64 x 64m squares), and max would be number of zones from the center one; in this example 3 zones away:
vegetation_reset rock4_copper biomes=BlackForest zone=X,Z max=3 start
Also, if you enter the command without using start at the end, it will give you an idea of how many zones will be reset, and how many were skipped.

Honestly, I think you need to back away slowly from this command and the UpgradeWorld mod and never try it again before you do some permanent damage to your world.

@unborn gull I use Upgrade_World v1.68.0 by JereKuusela and I wanted to know how to calculate how close a build item can be in order for the mod to reset a dungeon, depending on dungeon sizes and what item is build and mod settings, and where in relation to a zone boundary it is
You mean how close in order for the mod to not reset the dungeon? Pretty close, actually. The exact distance varies with the type of dungeon.
You can figure maybe 15-20m or so on average. You can force it to reset the dungeon regardless of how close by adding the 'force' option to the command.
Yeah thats what I mean, I use "force" for the Mysterious Locations but not for the Crypts, mines, fortress etc
and on the "1" setting it might still not reset if it clips into a zone just by 1m and the build item is in the same zone 63m away
for the "2" setting it would be 127m
and if its a big sized dungeon model you could have something only 12m away in a certain direction and it would still reset
I think It's the size of the dungeon entrance 'location' not the size of the dungeon itself that matters.

Look into Searica's SafetyStatus. It'll put a workbench icon on your status bar when inside a SafeZone. Helpful at determining if a thing will reset.

ok, btw if u want splash dmg with a throwable, make sure it doesnt have a primary/secondary attack. for example, with the bronze hammer, it only does splash dmg as a secondary attack, so when you throw it, it only dmgs 1 enemy

You would see that you can more easily combat an enemy in multiplayer settings. Instead of getting hit...then the animation plays...or animation playing, then getting hit.
Additionally, would make it where the creature is visible to you...not lagging because someone with poor internet is controlling that creature on the network.
It drastically reduces the issues with combat in multiplayer overall.
Thanks I think I get it ... so basically it prioritizes syncing the server data + client's animation with the client that the creature is directly targeting, so the amount of desync doesn't change overall, just prioritizes it in a more useful way?
I guess you could word it like that. It's essentially elimination of the desync. By making you (if you're the target) the network owner so that you can better fight the creature.
Though, the creature could still be desyncing for others if your internet is poor or theirs is. Just to you (the target) it would be much smoother fighting experience.

I guess because it's more a bandaid and not a "fix"
To truly fix the networking issues in Valheim...more things would need to be server-side controlled and synced to players with respective buffers.

Assuming that r2modman is running on your local LAN, then use it's Settings > Browse Profile Folder option.
ive found the mods folder for r2modman, but all the folders are empty

The .dll files would be in the r2modman Settings > Browse Profile Folder > BepInEx > plugins folder. Inside their own folders there.

I don't see any newer mods for preventing pet deaths. Try the old one and see if it could possibly be still working.
Try it on a test world and, If it gives errors and doesn't work, you can always just remove it.

Check your game logs for errors to see if it really isn't loading and why. Maybe it's loading and you just need to set it's options correctly?

Well i had it installed 2 years ago, but since then i havent played the game a lot, so i recently started again and wanted to have the mods that i used to play with, all the other mods load perfectly like clock mod, trash, hotkeys and all that

Hey there, just a tiny question. If you uninstall a mod that adds items and you load back into the game, do these items just disappear or does the game crash and the save becomes unusable?
The items just disappear but, if they were holding up a building, then the building falls down. Removing mods won't crash the game directly but can cause problems in certain cases.
Best to do it on a test copy of the world first.
Ah, I see. Because I have installed a plugin that adds more magic weapons and I was wondering if I should just remove em later down the line. I just wanted magic weapon for early and midgame til I get to ashlands, the later stuff they added is highkey broken
We are using the MonsterLabZ mod by MonsterLabZFix. When my friend and I started the new game, the well showed up at first, but now it doesn't show up for both of us. We need to learn where the bosses are, but we can't find the well. When I create a new world, the well shows up, but when I play a save with my friend, the well doesn't show up for both of us. So it seems like there is nothing wrong with the mod. How can we find the well?

Check the instructions for MonsterLabZ to see if you need UpgradeWorld mod's "locations_add" command to put the well 'location' on an existing world.

It works really well for me. It lets me rotate objects in any angle I want before placing them.

Like, I've got an issue with the custom model there. Mainly the character doesn't properly hold two handed objects, like the cultivator, atgeirs etc and I've been wondering if anyone knows how to fix that
It's posible that, if anyone knew how to fix that, they'd have made a mod to do it. You can search over at thunderstore.io to see if there's any mods that do that.

Got it. That's a tree stump and a rock. InfinityHammer will let you pick up things like that in the world and Gizmo will let you rotate them any way you want.
Then you can place them however you want. Are you asking how to stick things like that in a building wall or something?

If you want something like the log to have 'snap points' so it'll snap into place like an actual building piece, that'll take more work to do. A mod like InfinityHammer or PlanBuild might be able to do that but it won't be easy.

Ok. So, if I understand the problem, when you use the mod on a new world, it puts the well in there with no problem. But if you add the mod to an old world, it doesn't add the well. Have I got that right?

Right. And to do so, you'll need to have the name of the 'location' that is the well.
The WorldEdit mod gives you the 'object info' command so that you can hover over the well, enter the 'object info' command and see it's prefab name in the text it shows you.
Then, you can use that name in your UpgradeWorld mod's "locations_add" command to place the well in the old world.
Here's an example of how that would work with the Bogwitch camp location. Same as would be with the well's location.
Enter the console command: locations_add BogWitch_Camp force ('force' is an option there. Use it on a test world copy first)
then enter: start locations_add BogWitch_camp
then enter: find bogWitch_camp (To see where it put it).

You could do it with CLLC and editing the YAML files. Which is likely going to be a bit complex for just that.

Another way I found, though also a bit complicated, was using the Faction mod, and edit the file to set the squito's hostile to other monsters in plains. So most of the time lox or gobbos killed them for me.

It means you shouldn't be running mods on the PTB server. It's for testing vanilla updates for the game.

Load it up with the r2modman manager. That makes it easy to control the individual mods. So you can customize it to your liking.

G works to cycle through them, but once i get to the back to the deer, it won't let me cycle again unless i go to the stones

F doesnโt do anything unfortunately which is extremely odd. It had listed in the options different short cuts like alpha 2, 3, 4
Maybe "G" with Shift, Ctrl, or Alt?

On a server or on your solo game?
There are mods that suspend the rules of building structure. But if someone comes along with out the mod on his game, the building collapses. So you should avoid those kinds of mods.
You need a mod that can give the building infinite health, with no height limit, without the mod being needed by other players.
I personally use InfinityHammer to give buildings infinite health, although there may be other mods that can do that as well. Just be very careful which mod you choose.

I can't find a mod with that name. Maybe you should go over to thunderstore.io and replace it with a mod from there that does the same thing and is updated for the BogWitch version of the game.

Interestingly, I've had trouble with that mod for the last few weeks after coming back to the game, and had to resort to the CraftFromContainers mod instead.
Was a surprise to me, as Azu's mods usually work very well and is maintained.
Just an update on this, the mod is functionally 100% done. Will just need to make some basic documentation, package it for release, and publish it. ETA: Within next 24 hours. Have to sleep and work first.

This is an alternative concept to crafting from containers. It is NOT craft from containers but it is a whole other way to solve the problem of finding things.
Probably just hitting the hot key to toggle it on and off. Without realizing it.
Can also just use AzuAutoStore to find things. Simply type the command in the chat window (/azuautostoresearch), followed by the name of the item or word it might contain. Typing azu and hitting tab usually auto completes the command.
Works really well with AzuCraftyBoxes.
Will also ping the containers the items are in.
Ironically that's the other Azu mod I've struggled to get to work :)

Not many mods arenโt compatible with them. Since they are vastly built for compatibility in mind. They arenโt perfect, but more compatible than the counterparts.

Yeah, I'll test further first. I don't like giving error reports before I've ran through things first. Though I think I mostly ran through and disabled all the extra keys, because I really dislike having keys I don't know what do active.

Strange, I have no idea. You can start it using the console command "ragnarok start", then wait 20 seconds. It still needs to be tweaked here and there. It would be great if you could share your experience, maybe with a short footage so I see what needs to be tweaked first. Have fun!

Hello all! Does anyone here use/have experience using Dathost to host their modded valheim servers? My friend and I are having an issue after this latest patch of mismatched valheim version. Our games have updated to the patch but we canโt get the Server to update. Weโve taken the steps dathost has listed such as rebooting the server manually etc and it just wonโt update for some reason. We reached out to dathost and their response was just a copy and paste โmake sure your mods are updated and update the serverโ even though it wonโt. Any help is appreciated tysm!
I've used dathost, and iirc, it took them about a day before a new patch applied.

It's great! I have an old world i played with a group of people, and my goal is to get them all to come back "one last time to say goodbye in a special way", and have this happen with them expecting as little as possible lol
yet, it does not perfectly scale with player count. at the moment I think, more than three players at the same place should probably be max at the moment. something i will change so it scales better. another thing I am thinking of, is making option to disable god mode. by now you noticed you are always in god mode, otherwise you would just not live quite long. but maybe making an option to try to survive as long as possible with some highsore and damage statistics or something like that could be an interesting option. what do you say?

one thing im seeing though is yellow leaves on some of the meadows birches, as if they spawned in the plains
That would only happen with stumps that were created before the mod was added. If the mod isn't present at the time the tree is cut down, it can't preserve the name of the tree that spawned the stump. Because all 4 birch variants share a stump, it picks one of the trees at random to replace it.

I had actually intended to make sure it at least picked a non plains birch if you weren't in the plains, but I forgot about that and left the RNG as a fallback. Sorry about that.

Hi all, does anyone know a Permadeath mod that actually is permadeath (meaning your character deletes when died - preferably map too). All the modsa I can find that are supposedly 'permadeath' are not, your character just resets in the same world.

You edit the mod's .cfg or .yml file in the BepInEx > config folder with a text editor.

I have 80ish mods. I tried restarting and the problem persisted, but the problem resolved after disabling the Dual Wield mod. To confirm that it was definitely Dual Wield I re-enabled it and... The problem was still gone. So either it has simply resolved itself somehow or maybe running the game briefly without it enabled fixed something in my player file ๐คท๐ฝโโ๏ธ It's worth trying

What do you mean by "use"? Should it prevent them from equiping the items or straight up delete them from their inventory?
WackysDatabase mod comes to mind. But I've never used it for that so you'd have to check it out and see.

AzuAntiCheat will detect a number of things, like their mod versions, modding apps, and even damage output, and kick them from the session.
WackyDB could work, by editing the cheat sword/sledge dmg to zero, but AntiCheat probably would give you more control, however, you have to maintain two folders of which mods you'll allow.

I'm acting as a scout for my friends so that I can test modded Valheim and see what set of mods we should use.
I'm using R2ModMan.
Once I find a set of mods that I think is good, chances are I will host the game for the bros cause the beefiest PC is mine by a landslide.
How can I help them download the mods, and how can I be sure that we all share the same config for said mods ?
Has anyone found or know of a mod that will kill the haze/ashrain/fog/mist in ashlands? It's laggy and giving me a headache. I have tried mistbegone but that doesn't seem to remove these affects.
Someone suggested trying the Mist-B-Gone mod, but I didn't hear if it worked on ashlands or not.

If you and your friends all use the thunderstore.io's r2modman mod manager, you can put together any group of mods you want into a profile inside the mod manager.
Then when you're ready, you can export a profile code and send it to your friends. That lets your friends use the profile code to load the exact same mods, with the configs you've set, into a profile on their r2modman managers.

Have you been able to reduce or remove the affect in Ashlands?
I'm not bothered by the effects I see in Ashlands. I have no lag there and the ambient atmospheric effects aren't very noticeable for me.
That may be due to my long term use of the MistBeGone mod by Azumatt or the Graphics game settings I use. I set those to minimums some time ago before Ashlands ever came out.

EASYSPAWNER MOD: Looking at all the itmes in game etc, but the Mod doesnt seem to work when I push the key for the menu to show up. It installed via R2Modman like the others. does anyone have a good modpack me and someone can play becausae we got bored after we finished the ashlands and want some new content and new creatures and stuff like that. I dont want a deep north mod but i want some changes to the existing biomes and new weapons and all that. i tried modding but its difficult and i cant find out what mods work and whats compatible with what
you could install Zenheim as a base layer for QoL and rule changes. Then put Warfare + Monstrum + Wizardry (+ optionally Armory but turn off the Armory Forge) on top of it to have a fairly close to vanilla experience with a greatly improved QoL and a bunch of new monsters and weapons.

So I was trying to find information about HUDcompass mod not working correctly (resolved) but in doing that I saw mentions about a mod for making pins while out adventuring and using NOMAP mode... does anyone have recommendations for a good mod to do such a thing

I vastly prefer https://thunderstore.io/c/valheim/p/Azumatt/Recycle_N_Reclaim/ but I'm biased. No direct trash can, but optional resource returns. Has both the delete key (behind admin only by default) and a recycle tab. Compatible resource returns with Jewelcrafting and EpicLoot.
Quickly trash flag with hotkeys while in inventory etc.
ZenRecycle has a SmashTrash option available that lets you smash stuff on the ground. By default it's admin only, but you can change that in the configs.

Did you recently upgrade to the most recent version of Valheim without checking the docs/news/releases of your mods to make sure that your mod versions would be compatible with your Valheim version?

I've logged in with FTP through file zilla, but I just have no knowledge on how to actually add the mods through it. I know you can drag and drop files into the config folder, but as for unzipping winrar packs into it I'm unsure. Also, with FTP do other players need to install the mods separately still with Bepinex, or does the function of FTP circumvent that?

You have a folder called config and then a folder called plugins.
Put dlls into the plugins folder.
Never use a service own mod installer option, always use FPT software to manually install your mods.

There are very few mods that are installed on the server only. Most mods need to be installed on the player's games. Watch for mods that come with .cfg files. Those should be put in the BepInEx config folder. They might contain custom configuration options by the author.
Look at the mod's web page icons at thunderstore.io and they will say at the bottom "Server" or "Client" or sometimes "Both". To show where they need to be installed.

That's right. However, you can just unzip the mods folders and put the whole folder in the BepInEx plugins folder. Either the whole folder or just the .dll file will work.
Should I recommend that players install BepInEx over r2modman for their own downloads?
Also, with r2modman, you can set up your player mods the way you want them and then send the other players a profile code they can use to create a profile and d/l the mods and config files automatically.

it's probably a conflict. i use AutoMapPins by FixItFelix just fine. (and yeah, things do get pretty cluttered, but i like it lol)

Right now my server is running on the default_old beta available in steam because our mobpack was broken by the current patch.
How does version control work for this game? I see they have snapshots from before each major update, but when the next patch comes out, will default_old get bumped up to this current patch?

Yeah. I've had this issue for other games. It's frustrating that steam doesn't provide the ability to actually choose whether or not to update a game.
so im thinking about starting a moded valheim server (I have ran dedicated server just vanilla, no mods, multiple times before and am familiar with how to set that up). but my question is when im on the Thunderstore mod website, how do i know if its a client side or server side mod because isnt that a thing:? for example like this equipment slot mod https://thunderstore.io/c/valheim/p/RandyKnapp/EquipmentAndQuickSlots/
Almost all mods are client side. With mods like the one you show, the only reason to put it on the server would be if you wanted it required by all of your players and/or wanted to force everyone to have exactly the same configuraton of the mod.

Yes, they would. But you can set all the mods up in a profile on your r2modman and then export a profile code to the players that will allow them to auto d/l the exact same mods and the configuration settings you've given them.

sorry one last question...do the mods get their settings setup from the server admins settings? like for example the plant everything has an option to change the respawn times of things it seems like...would all our settings be syncd up via the admin?
oh nvm just saw theres a server sync setting on that mod. assuming its same for others
IF the mod syncs the configurations, the mod would need to be installed on the server and all clients to have that happen. Generally admins can use the Configuration Manager in game to change settings that support it....live. (ServerSync and Jotunn sync required).
Otherwise, server reboots and manual edits.
IF the mod does not sync configurations or is labeled as client-side (Like the Equipment And Quickslots mod) then the configs are free for anyone to change on their local machine without that syncing to the ones of the mods loading on the server.
Not all mods sync configs. Not all mods support live changing of them either.

If the server isn't using the Anticheat, or otherwise forcing them to have specific mods. No, likely they could just sign right in. Since most things are client side.

I love Valheim raft but I wish its dev had a discord. I read the github and the modpage but either I dont understand the hull mechanics or something is busted. Like, base boat platform, wheel, tier 2 sail, and rudder, nothing else, yet shipPropulsion is like 0.33333 and ship barely moves. Last year it worked fine.

I use InfinityHammer for terrain leveling and stuff. And there's other terrain mods over at thunderstore.io that work well, too. And one or another of them might be easier to use. You should check them out. Just make sure they've been updated recently by their authors.

by pressing f1 in the game menu I saw that the configuration for storing items when the chests have them is on. If an item isn't being placed into the chests would we have to make a change to the yml file?

Good Morning all, been about a year since I set mods into Valheim and memory is failing me. Following the instructions to manually install BepInExPack_Valheim to my Dedicated Steam CMD server. Their example picture here https://thunderstore.io/c/valheim/p/denikson/BepInExPack_Valheim/ however indicates that I move the BepInExPack_Valheim into my install but then I need to pull some files out of that folder into the main folder?

Good evening everyone. Me and my friend started playing a modded version of valheim that uses a mod called 'Skyheim'. It allows the player to infuse the armour with Eitr but as a result it decreases the armour percentage of the gear piece. We are currently playing in a very hard difficulty and having low armour is kinda proving difficult at some points in the game. Usually most mods have a config file where the values of such stats can be modified using BepInEx but this mod specifically doesn't have a config file. I was wondering if someone has this config file?

you could just move the mod out of the plugin folder, or get the valheim configuration manager and disable it from there.

Manual: Rename with a .old file extension or move them out of plugins folder.

We tried a few different things, but nothing worked. Updated Mods, updated game, rolled back updated game, tried different host, verified files. Just yesterday we could connect but after the patch today something broke. Of course this is with mods only.

Starting a dedicated server from regular world save. I tried setting the bat file to the same name, but it seems to create a new, and different world, with the same name. It creates a backup of the single player one of the same name. Do the world options have to match in the startup for the dedicated one? This is on the same machine that I have the file save for single player.
Sounds like the game is looking in the wrong folder for your world saves.
The world name of the -world <world name> argument must match the <world name>.db and <world name>.fwl files in your server's <savedir>\worlds_local directory. If you're using a case-sensitive file system, they must match in case. If you copied the worlds to that directory while the server was running, the server's fresh in-memory world will overwrite the copied files on the next save interval or graceful shutdown.
So I made sure it matched, it doesn't generate anything, starts right up, and it's still different. Can headless from a .bat pull cloud saves or something like that?
