I stopped playing Valheim for a few months after logging 5K hours the last few years. Swore I was done. Uninstalled everything from my gaming laptop. After going through regret/withdrawal, I tried playing again. I can load the mods, but can not connect to any server (Have tried 3 different ones). I keep getting a "65000" error and not able to connect. Have tried uninstallling, deleting the bepinex folders, no effect.

Just been exploring and I first died on the day 27 island, went back to get my things and carried on exploring and then died on the day 28 spot… I respawned on the previous island I was on even tho I never set a spawn point or built anything 😭 and when I went back to the day 28 death to get my stuff, it wasnt there 🙃

Well, one option available to you is to go to Manage Saves in the main menu, select characters, your character and see if any of the backup timestamps might be representative of your items you died with. If one is, you could restore that backup as your current character save.
Known bug? Disappearing shield paint. For context I'm pretty sure the walls underneath had just been set ablaze, idk if that has anything to do with it. It's tradition to hang the first shield up for hours and weeks and months and it's never happened before.

You mean network connection issues when you play multiplayer so others can't hear you when you talk?
when im in a party with my friends in discord it lags my audio than plays it all at once, this is the only game it does it on so im not sure whats wrong, i also have connection issues where i cant join the server if i leave

All these are network connection issues. Your home router probably improperly priorities Valheim traffic and disregards Discord. You will probably have to enter your home router settings and enable QoS features. Then tweak Discord by going to the Voice & Video, scroll down and enable Quality of Service High Packet Priority.

Just like in the video, I placed the shield on an item stand (a wooden shield with the blue pattern), and one day I logged in and saw it without the blue skin. Fixing it was simple I just had to take it off and place it again but it's kind of annoying if it happens often.
It happened one day after an update release (not the combat one, just another update). Maybe the shield skin ID just decided, ‘Ok, I’m going back to my default ID since I lost the skin pattern ID after the update,’ and it replaced itself with the original ID, I guess.

Awright, so it seems that since I was last at the point where I make an iron cooking station something has changed. It is no longer possible to place a cauldron together with an iron cooking station over a hearth (or any other location, flat ground or campfires). This has always worked in the past so I am mentioning it here in case it is an unintended change. It makes the hearth stupidly large if all you can use it for is placing one cooking rack. If it is an intended change I suggest adding a half sized stone fireplace too in addition to the hearth.
The spinning wheel doesn't produce what it's supposed to if you leave render distance. Vanilla, multiplayer, crossplay. ( also does it when I'm on the server alone)
Found bug yesterday when we fought Queen. If you stand in right place she can send you through the walls in to the sky. There is a clip of it in clips section that explains it better than I can

It's a known issue, but if you find a way to reliably reproduce it every time, let me know.
If i'm not mistaken, it needs to be that same corner of the room and queen needs to send you flying towards the wall, I'm no sure if I remember right, but when queen first came to public servers I think I got the same bug. But it has been awhile and I'm not sure anymore if it was some1 elses clip of it or was it me who played 😄
I've seen players get through the walls on multiple places, so don't think it's wall related.

You should be able to cool on multiple stations and same fire. You are probably smothering it.
Or it might be some of the known bugs with fire remaining active when it's out. Re-construct your stations and restart the server. Try in single-player.

Styelised equipement will reset to default when you load into a server and hover it via hammer.
There is nothing going on with the fires, it is the cauldron and iron cooking stand that will no longer allow to be placed together. In all my previous bases I have placed the cauldron in one end of the hearth and the cooking stand over. Not possible anymore. At first I thought it was something in the building interfering, but I tried outside too, on flat ground. On a solo world, not a server.
Just tested it, works for me without issues. Are you using mods?
Share a screenshot of your setup. Try it in the open as well.
No mods, and I did try out in the open, on flat ground. Going to take some screenshots later tonight when at the computer!
Tried again last night, still the same behaviour. There's no angle or method by which I am allowed to place the cauldron with the cooking station in place - or the other way around. Like I said, all vanilla, solo world.

Well, after restarting without world modifiers I could place it like above, which is good enough for me. I'll just write it down to me taking crazy pills and remembering things wrong. But I'll hop on some older worlds later and look at my fireplaces there to see if I've just been wasting your time... 🙂

Troll Caves flip direction 180 degrees

Upon entering or exiting a Troll Cave, the direction you are facing as can be seen in the minimap is flipped 180 degrees.
Should be kept consistent just like it happens with, for instance, Burial Chambers (useful for tracking The Elder from vegvisir stone when playing without map).
As far as I remember it's not consistent with burial chambers either. You still have to use the hammer method to orient yourself.
I've just tested three chambers nearby.
They did keep direction.

Hello. I was just playing on the PTB. I have an NVIDIA 2080 Ti. My game crashed and I lost progress, but the Player.log doesn't give any further info about it other than a Boar spawning before the crash.

Exactly that. The graphics card is up to date. I've been playing Valheim for several years with and without mods and haven't had any problems until now, and it was after trying the new beta.

plenty if nvidia drivers have been broken this spring/summer. so update to 581.15 or newer is recommended

There are no known issues with boats disappearing.
It's either them getting destroyed by enemies when players leave them unattended, or because someone messes with saves/crashes so boat position is on a different place than exspected.

I don't know if this has been reported before, but
- Summoned skeletons rapidly take heat damage, from wading ankle-deep in the Ashlands. And they are not smart enough to avoid the water.
This makes them often-useless.
Since monsters don't seem to be damaged by immersion in the Ashlands, a reasonable fix would be for summoned creatures to not take heat damage from this source.
the game is not optimised, when fader attack walls with spikes, the game run to 1fps, impossible to play and it's very annoying
When I am dry and portal into the Ashlands during a storm, the wet debuff gets applied to me if my portal is not sheltered. Like some moist ash falls on me and I am wet for 2 minutes.
Yeah, it's a known issue. A quick workaround was implemented so that Arena doesn't spawn close to Forts in new worlds.
How was your experience with them and lava?
You don't get wet status when you portal when there isn't a storm?

Correct. I don’t get the wet debuff when portaling into the Ashlands with no storm. Like it takes a moment for the game to transition from regular rain to ash rain when I get there, so when I get there I end up with a 2 minute debuff.
Send me your player.log file next time your are available to do so.
You can navigate to the file by opening show player.log button available in Valheim starting menu (bottom left corner under the patch notes). The a folder will open where you will see the Player (Player.log) file. Send me a personal message and drag and drop that file there.
It seems Valheim is getting input from somewhere when it lsoes focus.
That somewhere would appear to be my gamepad even though I have gamepad input disabled
Confirmed. With Gamepad Enabled unchecked and my Switch Pro controller connected, alt-tabbing away from Valheim results in the game continuing to receive input. I can also navigate menus with Gamepad Enabled unchecked but part of me feels like that's intentional so Gamepad users can still check the box ?

I don't recall trying them near lava; gave up on skeletons after the problem on the shores.
I notice that charred take minimal damage from walking over lava, which makes sense.
Seems likely that "improve pathfinding/AI so that they avoid shallow water" is more difficult than granting damage reduction/immunity from water immersion, but better pathfinding would be good too.
I think that what's going on, is that
- on lava, creatures get set on fire, and take Fire damage (very resistant), but are immune to Heat damage.
- in water, player skeletons are not immune to Heat damage, and so take damage at the same rate as a player. Which means quite swift death. Incongruous when wading ankle- or shin-deep.
Yeah, last input before deactivating window gets stuck. Known issue, most problematic on steam deck. Input managemen needs some enhancements.
You'll likely have a hard time hosting or connecting to servers using Crossplay without a VPN or or other means of proxied connection to the Internet. If not, you'll want to look for a native Steam server, i.e. marked "Dedicated". This is usually a political issue. I won't go into detail here, but you're welcome to DM me if you need more context.

Lord Reto a little bit... broken? Killed him with the Primal Zerker Axes... after he got rooted the 2nd time he just went and stared at the wall for a while, even after the root wore off
It's not just him. There's an pending unwanted behaviour to be investigated where enemies wander off sometimes during combat.

for nvidia you probably need to update drivers with a clean update

we don't have any kind of ETA about vulkan and AMD since it's out of our hands. but we have done what we can on our end to put this issue forward to those wo need this info

I'm on arch linux with hyprland and I just cant click in the menus, I can use my arrow keys for the main menu but for the inventory and other ui I can't click making the game completely unplayable. This was fixed on the second patch of the ptb but is broken again on the full release

Version 0.221.4 had the following issues:
・In Japanese mode, the Japanese portion of player names containing Japanese characters did not appear in the player list displayed by pressing the F2 key.
This made it impossible to identify who was causing trouble and who should be banned.
Why does this last update feel like it was rushed onto live branch without proper testing?
- Missing German translation for all the new items and receipts?
- A bear model that looks stitched up (it was possible to have proper deer and boars, so why did it have to be a terror bear instead of a proper grizzly?)
These are just the first things that jumped in my face when trying out the new update today... 😢
my cart dissapered, i looked arround it was not destroyed , and it wastn gone downhill, i was making paths to the forsaken stones with the hoe and when i returned to smelt anotherroun it was gone

i was using hoe maybe it clipped trhough the terrain , but i was usng the hoe to make path a bit far from the cart...
I couldn't play with a friend, I checked everything I could, the Internet is connected, it works well, I checked the files, reinstalled the game, the second update has already been released since this error, but for some reason it didn't help, I also didn't find a solution to the problem on the Internet. Version 0.221.4 (n-35)
Unfortunately you won't be able to connect to servers using Crossplay unless you have an alternate path to the Internet (like a VPN service). It's a political issue rather than software I so won't go into details here but feel free to DM me if you want more context.

If this is just you and your friend, I recommend having your friend disable Crossplay and send you a Steam invitation while you are waiting in the character selection screen. That way you will avoid Crossplay and Steam will facilitate direct connectivity if possible.
If this is a dedicated server instead of an in-game server, they can disable Crossplay if all players are using the Steam version of the game. They would also be responsible for making the server directly accessible from the Internet (e.g. UDP port forwarding if using a NAT router).
If Crossplay must be used (e.g. to support an Xbox or Apple App Store user), then like I said you would need a VPN or other proxied path to the Internet through a different country.

Tip: Much easier way to get to that folder is this:

If you copy that to explorer folder bar, you magically go to the right location. Windows key + e opens explorer.
That %appdata% is an environment variable which points to users roaming data folder, .. puts you back away from there and then the rest is the locallow and so on. no need to think what username is and so on

Not a bug, but signs gor fixed. You'll have to adjust transparency yourself for your signs now, instead of it being improperly applied for every colot like before.
After picking up cooked bear meat, I got "1 New unlocks in message log", yet there's nothing that I can find that shows up. Unless it's for the serving tray for being able to place it, but I don't think it is. It could just be a left over placeholder, and didn't get removed.

OK so transparency can be set with the color (as in <#RRGGBBTT>) but so far that doesn't have the same effect - unless we have to find the same setting it had by default before? That would be handy to know. So far it looks like it won't produce the same result. Previously all textures viewed through a white sign would be in greyscale, and lighting/environmental effects were invisible.

No, nothing, no matter where you go in the black forest or how long, or what you do in a black forest there is no greydwarfs or shawman or brutes spawning. It's the only ones not spawning all the rest is fine

So after me viewing the files they do spawn however it is still weird that all those 20 minutes of gameplay in the black forest only 3 of them spawned compared to 2 trolls, 5 bears... So something is definitely broken

but sometimes you have alot of enemies already, so the game don't want to over-spawn and have to many critters either at the same time
I can try that but honestly it felt very empty, maybe 3 deers 2 trolls 5 bears, few birds... Compared to before where I have 10 dwarfs chasing me plus a troll, deer... I mean I don't think the overspawn is the issue

I wouldnt know about any blocklist. We can both connect to the Server. The log i showed was from his local client and his client only.
My Steam friend and I play Valheim together on a dedicated server (no mods).
Every time he restarts his game, I am automatically marked as blocked on his client.
He can unblock me manually in the ESC menu → then everything works again.
But after the next restart, I’m blocked again. This loop has been going on for months.

As i said, it doesnt matter which server we are on. It can also be just a hosted game by another friend. The logs also state, that i am blocked locally in a file called "blocked_players"
you both should look for 2 files in your vaheim folder

blocked_players.txt
In this hidden folder in windows:
C:\Users\ <username> \AppData\LocalLow\IronGate\Valheim
if either, or both, of you have these.
you can probably delete both of those files and see if you still have that problem

Update: Creating an empty blocked_players.txt locally (with // List blocked player IDs ONE per line inside, set to read-only) prevents the game from falling back to the Steam Cloud version. This stopped the auto-blocking issue completely.
Dont know why both of us never had this file. But unlike his client, mine never searched for blocked_players in the logs. His client does

the issue is. basicly if you open the files and accidently add a tiny space or something. the game will activly start blocking people 🙁
Yea i mean.. The problem here was, that there was something inside the steam cloud, which the game then used because there wasnt anything locally. I dont know why or how that happend, especially because we never modified our games. But by providing the file that the game wanted, it stopped using the cloud and therefore stopped blocking people

The important thing is, that it works now 😄 It didnt really bother us the past months, but since the new update, it started blocking the user generated content too, therefore he wasnt able to read any signs inside our storage, which is bad if you got multiple chests for every item in the game haha 😄

13th and 14th gen Intel CPU are known to have high failure rates.
All other games run solid and I have the mobo patch for my cpu

What ever you have, is almost certainly not a Valheim issue.
I've seen multiple cases where mbo BIOS update didn't stop already degraded CPU to degrade further, including in my brother's case. If you have the warranty active, you should think about doing some serious stress tests and replacing the CPU asap.
Valheim is the only game I have problems with, and only in 4k, but cool
Blue screens are serious hardware problems, BIOS related, driver related or corrupted system files, never games.

Most players who had dying 13th and 14th CPUs started crashing only in Valheim, cuz they didn't play many other games with stutters (low to high FPS jump). I can link you 50 such players. All of them replaced their CPU, and issues went away. After few months, those that didn't replace their CPU, started having their crashes happen in other games and even Windows.
Since launch, we never had a single report about blue screens being caused by Valheim, nor after this engine update. You are not the only one playing in 4k
The only blue screen crash that I remember that was software bases was related to bitdefender antivirus.
Are you or your friend launching Dedicated Server with the Steam UI? If so, you may be conflicting with your own license from Coffee Stain. A quick fix is to run the server anonymously, so running the shell script or batch file outside of Steam.
Are you using mods? Or have you used special characters when editing signs?
Before (left) the SSAO effect was being applied to text on signs, and now it isn't (right), how it should be. So yeah, you can't get the same effect like before, for which I hope you see why it was broken.
For my use cases it is the other way around, they are now broken. Perhaps a mod will restore the old functionality. Good to know what the effect was
Signs were working as on the right for about a year, then an particular engine update messed them up (right), now they got fixed again (left). So yeah, there is almost 0 chance this will be "fixed", and I would be suprised if you manage to find a mod that would restore the old functionality. As Smiffe said, editing signs in this way was mistakenly allowed in the first place, and is still in consideration would it be removed or not. Most likely it won't be tho, as many players are using it.

sometimes when you open the blocklist file and add a space bar or something. it automaticly triggers the block/white list features

Latest version all up to date. Just got the small tomb stone, after a raid from the swamp I died. I cannot get my armour back so I went to back up.. Now I have double all my weapons. This is on a solo game no dedicate server. Last time I played on a dedicated server this happened often... I'm using comfyquickslots mod so there is the problem I guess

Hello MaCarBRe. I see this poblem listed as "in progress" in the Known Issues in the official web page (I guess is the one titled "Unify workbench build radius and PlayerBase effect area"). Wanted to ask something to be sure and you seem well informed and active in here. I relied on the artisan table to prevent spawns in the sacrificial stones (as they have a big no-build radius around and I've integrated that place in my city). Actually, creatures are constantly spawning on the sacrificial stones and it's a nuisance. Do you know if, when they say "unify" the radius, they mean to made them all the same (small 20m)? Or do they mean preserve each different build radius but make sure the spawn block capability to be like the build radius?
So, no freezecrashes today either, we played for four hours. Nvidia 4050 and newest drivers cleanly installed. 581.29 released Sep 10. Looking good so far.
Yesterday we played for seven hours. Previously took like 2 hours for freeze to occur. Good good.
Not sure how it will turn out in the end. Probably 40m build area and 40m suppression.
To avoid enemies spawning there, switch to hammer when you enter you base. Only when hammer is equipped is when 40m supression is applied.
Thanks for the fast answer. But when you mean "enter your base" you mean when the zone is loaded? I don't think that's going to work for me, my base sprawls too much and the stones are actually in one of the corners; when I'm moving around my base I can be entering and exiting the zone where the stones are 😩 I hope they let it as it was before and that the fix could arrive soon.
There was never a point the artisan table provided consistent 40m of spawn suppression.
Before it offered 40m build radius + 20 spawn suppression.
After Hildir patch if offered 40m build area + 40m spawn suppression from the moment you equip your hammer.
Yeah, it you constantly walk out and in from loading that zone because you base is wide, then it's not a good workaround for you
hummm, curious... 🤔 What you say is not coherent with what I've been experiencing. I finished the building on that zone 14 months ago. At the beginning I had the same problems with spawns and gjust bear them because I din't know what to do. But some months later somebody remembered me about the artisan table higher radius. I recall putting them there around December and spawn problems immediately disappeared until recently. And for sure most times I was not walking through/teleporting to/logging in my base with the hammer equipped. So, for quite the time the artisan spawn block area was for sure higher than 20m on a continuous effect.
Don't get me wrong, It's not at all that I don't trust your words, on the contrary. But what I experienced is what I just explained. Weird. 🤨 With the exception of the last 2 months approx, I played very intensively on that world for years; so I'm confident what I noticed wasn't just by chance. When I came back to it after this update I noticed the change thus I came here to ask and fond your message , that's mostly the reason I asked you. Thanks again for all the info. I just hope the final resolution allows me to keep those pests out of my base.😤

Hello! I noticed a slightly annoying feature of the new two-handed weapon in "call to arms". When it is on the wall weapon rack it takes up too much space, unlike the same two-handed hammer from the misty lands.

Hi everyone,
I’m new here on the server, but I’ve been playing Valheim for quite a while and recently started again. Since then I’ve been running into a problem I never had before:
My game keeps freezing completely (both in singleplayer and when joining someone else’s world(Client not Host)). After that, it either stays stuck or Windows says valheim.exe is not responding. somtimes i see a Unity Window for a minimal period of time.
I’ve already: verified files, done a completely clean reinstall, updated Windows version, reinstalled all motherboard drivers, reinstalled GPU drivers (tryed Game ready and Studio), closed all background programs, disabled overlays – the issue is still exactly the same.
My specs: Windows 11 (latest), Intel I5 10400F, EVGA RTX 2070 SUPER (latest driver), 16 GB G.Skill TridentZ RGB, game is on an M.2 SSD.
I’m running out of ideas – does anyone know if there are current issues causing freezes like this, or have any suggestions what else I could try?

It's just the fact many players and not clear on what they did. Re-installing drivers as a sentance means nothing in the context of this issues

Did you run DDU in safe mode?
yes i did (used a tutorial so im not sure about the safe mode lol)
Then you might want to repeat that part. Best would be:
- Disable Windows installing drivers automatically
Start → type and open "advanced system settings" → Hardware → Device installation Settings → Select "No" option - Disable (iGPU if present) in BIOS
- Use DDU in safe mode to un-install graphic drivers (Start → type and run msconfig (system configuraton) → Boot → Safe boot (minimal)
- Boot normally
- Install Nvidia drivers via Nvidia app
- Don't optimise Valheim in Nvidia app

I've found that bear trophies can sometimes clip through the ground when they drop. I saw the "take bear trophy" prompt right before it fell through the world. Happened twice in a row. If I see it happen again, I'll be sure to grab a video.

just by curiosity; what you mean with wall weapon rack? You mean the vertical item stand to stick objects to walls?
Absolutely right! Try placing these objects on the wall, and then place the new axe among the other objects. You can only interact with the new weapon, which covers everything else.
Ah, so its "hitbox" to take it from the wall covers a lot of space then?
I'm looking at the two-handed sword but the hitbox of the axe from the update overlaps the hitbox of this sword.

It's probably still GPU issues, you might need to tweak GPU clocks, power or frequency (e.g. #steam-bugs-discussion message)
However before you do that, I would suggest resetting your BIOS settings to default.
Are you using any overlays except Discord, Steam and Nvidia? (e.g. Medal)
my gpu is completely stock and as far as i know there are no changes in my bios since i updated it what would you recommend to tune?

You sure that you updated mbo BIOS, you didn't mention that above. Requires downloading laters bioms from mbo site and instaling it via USB.
When it comes to GPUs, it wouldn't be my first time seeing unstable stock GPU, hence I linked you the above example

I understood that the first time you mentioned it. I'm not sure if you are understanding me. Some GPU, on stock, are not stable.

Regarding BIOS, you don't have anything to use by just doing a BIOS reset. It just reset settings to default.
App freezes in Valheim however are rarely related to CPU and RAM clock, so most likely not the issue, but you never know.
im going to reset my bios now i already turn up the power and voltage on gpu, do you think this is enough or should i also tune something else?
There are no rules here. It's basically trial and error. I've received all kinds of reports from players. Some downvolted their card and it stopped the crashes, some overclocked, some just lowered voltage, keeps frequency the same, etc... Undervolting might be the way to go, but you might undervolt too much or too little and wrongly conclude that's not the way to go. Generally it helps finding out someone on youtube who did the same in Afterburner for the exactly same card so that you at least have some reference.
Btw. check start → type and open "view reliability history" and see if any other errors pop up during these crashes

60-100fps depending on where I am, and yes some small number of mods but nothing overly invasive - I can certainly try replicating while disabled
You might check with #mods-issues, since some of the mods are pretty old.

I removed the only mod I had. The cultivator tool. Uninstalled the game, reinstalled and made a brand new world. On Day 2 the game crashed out again.

The game freezes up after logging into the world, anywhere from 15 seconds to a minute and 30 seconds. It just freezes up and will not close at all. I've checked all the files I can. I've done a complete reinstall of the drivers and tried running it as admin. I've considered uninstalling the game and doing a fresh install but I don't believe that will help. I have never installed any type of mods.

Stuttering sounds in Ashlands: entering putrid cave triggers it, and it continues outside. Returning to Meadows seems to reset it, bt then going back to Ashlands starts it up again, seemingly randomly.

the issue is actually fixed in a more rescent unity 6 game engine update, and we are sooo close to that version

I encountered an actual undead skeleton on the border between plains and black forest that had been killed, dropping bone fragments and no longer having a visible model, yet which still had a name tag with combat mode indicator (SKELETON !), still made clanking and shreiking noises, and had fulings, lox, etc. attacking the ground where it was / had been. The indicator couldn't move or attack, so it was partly dead and partly still there. I don't recall having observed that ever before.

I had posted in the past that initial fire damage could be blocked, but once a player was already on fire, any additional fire damage would be taken unblocked, even if the character did a blocking move. Since the CTA release, it appears that fire damage cannot be blocked at all. While this is more consistent, I would like to know if this was intentional.

Is there any way to fix ashlands audio just completely breaking? It cuts out and glitches so much, doesnt happen in any other biome and it honestly makes the area so much more tilting
Happens to my friend too, his PC is lower end afaik, mine is able to run valheim high FPS in most cases (120 fps cap)

Past two dedicated server releases, people have been unable to update their servers in anonymous mode without deleting their installation and redownloading. It seems like grabbing the prior manifest is blocked, preventing files comparison. I also want to make sure it's not an issue with the publisher Steamworks config.
We didn't notice an increase reports for failed updates via SteamCMD. Cache or partial installation files issues can always be a problem, and as long as complete re-install works for people, don't think there's a reason to bother Steam about it.
Last time we had that "No app info for AppID 896660" reinstalling SteamCMD didn't even help, and don't think we actually pinged Steam back then either. It just got resolved on its own.

I found an old Valheim dedicated app installation on one of my linux systems which had the same updating issue as you mentioned. Got resolved after I wiped Valheim installation folder and I can now switch between versions (default_precta, default_old, public) without issues.
As long as clean install works, think it's fine.
Yeah, it's just the issue will come up again on next update if the version you're upgrading from isn't the HEAD of the branch.

The bears have an interesting reset feature. I tamed some wolves and took them to a tower in the black forest tower. The bear would have his attention on the wolves so I got plenty of free strikes. It kept resetting back to its spawn area and runs aimlessly during an encounter at times.

Currently running Linux Mint with newst drivers.
Valheim Dir is only containing the needed files and no mods are installed.
Neither standard nor OpenGL modes does run (no window opening, just the button in steam returning to "play" without the game creating a log)
Does your launch command include the executable name? If so, there was a major rename done in a stealth release two days ago: valheim.x86_64 became Valheim.x86_64.
thanks for the hint, but in steam I have no launch cmd set, so if steam isn't messing something up I don't think this was the problem, also I tried to manually start the game by starting the mentioned file via terminal, which gave me this error: FindDataPath: Player data not found!

The game freeze for a second and then a message appear saying an error occurred. And it crashes. It usually happens after a while, 20 to 30 minutes. It doesn’t matter what I do in game. It happens even if I ve been afk the whole time with the game paused.

Hello everyone! Trying returning to Valheim with a friend, I am hosting server (not dedicated) and there is only two of us right now, but lags are terrible - enemies teleport from one place to another, items are not picked up and many more similar server related bugs. I would expect such behaviour in Ashlands, but we barely touched the meadows and it's already pretty laggy. I've tried relaunching server, clearing cache, verifying game integrity via steam, but it didn't help. My PC is quite powerful and network connection is good, so I am out of ideas. Any suggestions on what should I do?

That's how it is in Valheim, all parties have to have a stable connection for smooth gameplay, not just the host.

Crossplay can amplify network/compute latency issues, especially if one of you is far from the chosen Crossplay relay. You can try using the Steam/non-Crossplay mode if both of you are using Steam.
If you're not super network savvy, sending a Steam invitation while the other player is in the character selection screen will handle the hard parts for you.
About Crossplay / Playfab; Is there a way we as players (solo/server) can influence how the Playfab part of the connection turns out? Can we trace the session to see in what part of the world a session is routed? Can we choose a preferred Playfab array? Or blacklist some?

Nope, both players are Steam PC players, crossplay is disabled.
You can't really influence it without changing your apparent route to the Internet. I'm assuming Microsoft uses either a GeoIP-like database or a geo-DNS decision up-front. You can see what region that's been selected for you. In the server logs, when you see:
Joined PlayFab Party network with ID "<uuid>|<base64 blob>"
you can decode the Base64 blob and after some unintelligible bytes you'll find a UTF-8 exclamation point followed by the selected Azure region.
I think that same ID w/ base64 blob appears in the periodic refresh messages as well.
yo guys i got a new PC and when i installed valheim, my steam cloud is in sync and everything, but i was welcomed with my main save "deleted" and my main world "deleted", when i recovered them, only one backup was there and its from 1 years ago (still in mountain biome and i was near ashland on my actual save), is there a way i can recover my actual save or do i have to start back at the mountain biome??

If this world had been locally-managed (i.e. with the floppy disk icon, stored in worlds_local), then it would not have been synced to the cloud

Vile and Bear enemies cannot hit the player when the player is directly in front of them. The lunge appears to have a broken hitbox? Not sure what is causing it but these enemies can't fight at all

Probably related to your discord overlay misbehaving. Try disabling overlay for Valheim specifically then restart Discord.

Hello, I got some issues. I downloaded the game again after a couple of months but unfortunately when trying to chose my character, they appear with no gear on them, one is local and one is cloud, I got plenty of cloud space. When trying to make a new character, I can change sex, but can't change skin color, hair and beard, I give it a name, press Done but it won't create my character. I tried using my old character to boot up in a world but then I press Start on a couple of old worlds I have, both cloud and local. Then I tried to make a new world but the start button won't work. Any ideas?
Sounds like you should do a clean installation of the game. Open installation directory first, then manually delete all files and folders that are in there. Any only then install the game again via Steam. Launch the game via Steam as well.

No, this won't affect saves. They are on another location.
It could be un-related, but: I have had issues with pressing key "3" for ages in Valheim. When I pressed it, it could "double tap" and I had problem equipping my bow. Not running Discord app on my computer, though it was the key-switch it self that might went wacky. Because when I bind key "3" to a G-key on my Logitech G-915, I have no issues.

Just fyi, I had stability issues with the new update (crash after a few mins) while it was perfectly stable before. I solved that by removing all steam launch options I had added. Can't remember exactly what they were but at least three were related to perf optimizations as seen in multiple guides (two were related to window mode and one was enabling multi core).
my game is crashing pretty often, how exactly do i see a crash report ? i dont understand what to look for in the player.log file, and there is no crash report folder whatsoever in local\temp\irongate\valheim, only one file that seems unrelated
There isn't a crash-report, unless you're looking in Windows Event Viewer. The player log can contain Error / Warnings, that might give clues what in the game caused the crash. So I would start at the end of the log, see what the game did, just before it crashed. Remember that you only have 2 log-files, so on the 3rd boot, the 1 is overwritten.

I don't think so. This evening I tried with "-console" as the only option and Vulkan as the backend and everything went fine for a few minutes then a crash. Went back to default (so DX11 or 12?) and played for more than 1h without problems. Maybe this is more about the new Unity & Vulkan and less about options?

In your case, launching the game in Vulkan might spike you temperatures, so would be useful to know what whcih MAX temps your CPU and GPU reach when you play Valheim in Vulkan.
I usually recommend running HWiNFO tool to check that out.
There are some known issues with AMD and Vulkan, but we are not excluding that crashes can happen on Nvidia side as well when running Vulkan.

Maybe you tried to go against the wind will full sails? I'm assuming your rudder icon shows you selected going forward, but boat starts going in reverse? Using any mods?
I play with Letix, the boat initially works fine but once you start going in reverse you cannot stop it. Doesn't matter which speed setting you use it will keep going in reverse. We play with a couple most downloaded mods but none of them affect boats.
The way of holding a crossbow seems a bit strange, not bug really, but if it were possible for the character to hold it like in game then it would be better imo 🙂
Sounds like a mod issue. Have you tried controlling the boat in single-player world?
You can also copy your installation file (backups mods as well), then reinstall the game to try vanilla (use new saves as well), then after testing past that installation folder you backed up previously back into the original installation directory (should restore mods).
Yeah, a lot of weapons and tools look weird in main menu. Not easy to fix I've been told so probably won't be fixed any time soon.

Steam just re-enabled steam cloud for the second time in the last few months, despite me explicitly disabling it since nearly a year ago.
I was doing frequent restarts of the game while i tinker with various things, none of which can influence steam in any way, and suddenly its unable to launch the game with no reason or dialog.... so I restart steam and see the problem.

@cosmic niche yep, i was good on (linux) 570, and anything more recent is garbage... and at some point it refused to let me revert too. Evidently some update, or tweak i tried and forgot about in the interim has allowed me to do so because i'm currently 570.181.
Earlier today i tried 580 and it seemed better than a ?week? ago, but still felt slightly laggy or maybe slidey on the controls. It would probably also have stuttered hard if i started desktop recoding with ffmpeg, or discord streamed. Strangely; omething that is never reflected in my mangohud fps readout.

While headbutting the PlanBuild mod to figure out why it seems I can never make it work properly...and consequently doing lots of game restarts: the game stopped starting entirely. After plenty of wtf i figured out it was the insidious lets just silently capitalise Valheim.x86_64 BS that someone thought would be a good idea. Of course valheim_Data also silently became Valheim_Data without warning. So that was fun.

I am in the Sealed Tower under Hildir's request and I think the Traps are tripping on the floor above me when I walk around inside. I entered the tower through one of the windows about half way up and am working my way to the top before descending.
I made a mistake. I believe it was one of the barred wall-dividers. I ran across one of these on another floor. It was fragile. There is a possibility that the broke it down themselves.

Hello. Had a world I just logged out of suddenly say "missing db." I've got a db file and a fwl file from a couple hours ago that I want to revert to, but when I restore the backup, it still says "missing db."

Not sure if this is the place for this, but my friends and I were playing and recently all ran into issues in the Ashlands performance wise. It was mostly sound stuttering/cutting out. I've seen some complaints about this but other people have said they had no issues. Does something in particular cause this? Frostner? Ice spells?
We have some mods but they're mostly QoL mods. Things like bigger inventory, small gameplay tweaks, etc. nothing crazy. Tried restarting my PC and the problem persisted. Didn't have any problems in other zones...
Yep, it would be better if you could screenshot your in-game backups first for that world, before you try restoring any older backups.
Manage saves button in the starting menu → worlds tab → expand backups for your world → screenshot
The current engine versions has audio stuttering issues when too many sounds are playing, which is also very common in Ashlands.
Unity devs recently fixed the bug thanks to our reports, but Valheim still has to update its engine version to match the one with the fix.
Updating engine usually comes with other issues, so not something that will be done soon.
In the meantime disabling music while playing in Ashlands might help a bit.

Hey Fellas I'm back again. This time I've got a screen shot. The game worked great for a while. I made it to the swamp without so much as a crash but this morning when I went to fire up the game through steam I got this error. I'm not using any mods, not using vulkan, or cloud saves. However, I did download a new OBS update, but that wouldn't have anything to do with it, right? I have nothing else major running in the background. I also downloaded and updated my NVIDIA graphics card so I'll try resetting and try again.
There have been cases in the past where OBS caused crashes if installed with Overwolf plugin for overlay, so I wouldn't be suprised it has something to do with it

They might play with less players, use weaons that don't produce as many sounds, don't have a base in vicinity, not have lots of enemies around.

I'm not sure if it would help as I don't know how the mod works. I'm guessing the sounds would still have to be processes by the CPU so wouldn't help.
one last question. is there an easy way to turn off the ability for enemies to damage trees and rocks? if you know of a mod by name etc. I think doing that would improve ashlands performance too

Probably a GPU driver crash - a web page now told me my browser does not support webgl. Latest NVidia drivers, Valheim might have stressed it to happen but might not be directly to blame

It froze in the middle of placing some build pieces - so while playing. Then after like 10 seconds, things went black (even on second screen where nothing was up - taskbar disappeared). I thought I was going to BSOD since that did happen once before (similar initial symptoms) and reflexively tabbed out to see if anything was responding. Could navigate other windows just fine. Then when I tried to focus on Valheim again it told me it wasn't responding. Left it like that for a few minutes but no change.
Sound kept playing the whole time, though I can't say if it was the same music/ambience that just kept going or if game logic was still happening and me just not seeing it.

Think Steam is messing up installations on Linux due to previous download cache, and not being case sensitive. Probably the same reason why SteamCMD fails installing dedicated server app, but haven't confirmed yet. Tried hopping between builds on Linux, and it appears there a high chance Steam won't put properly named files. Only way I consistently get correctly named files is if I wipe download cache before I switch between builds.
Yep, there is definitely an upstream bug with Steam and case renames. Good to know it might be cache related. It might be separate from the SteamCMD prior manifest retrieval issue.

Couple of issues I've seen since the latest update. The first may just be incredibly bad luck: killed almost 100 drakes, no trophies. The other is definately a bug. If I run my smelter then leave the chunk, the coal gets scattered over a large area; if I stay there, it comes out normally.
Oh does it have something to do with rested giving bonus regen?
Does you PC go into standy-by mode? If so, try disabling fast boot. Some laptops have issues with drivers properly starting after stand by, so something similar might be happening to you. Also would be a good idea to eliminate thermals as being an issue. I recommend running HWiNFO tool to check which MAX temps your components are hitting when playing and this issue happens.
What are the chances of this being fixed any time soon?
I wanna build a mountain castle with the grausten steep stairs as a roof, but they behave kinda stupid atm, as they don't cast a snow shadow.

With a mace regular attack you get 1 Adrenaline + 3 Adrenaline of top of that if you stagger an enemy with your attack

Be sure to also launch through Steam library after.
Usually happens when you still have some left over mods or some 3rd party app being incompatible with Valheim (e.g. antivirus or recently reported OBS).

Just had another crash to blackscreen while playing. Image froze, sound kept playing for a few seconds, stuttered and then stopped.
Screen kept turning on and off, but only a black image when on. Win+ctrl+shift+B did nothing at all, no alt tabbing or ctrl-alt-deleting. Eventually had to force power off.
Not really sure how to troubleshoot this.
Yep, though with the Europe weekend already starting, I would just file a ticket using the iframe in https://valheim.com/support/ to ensure it has the right eyes on it
Tried a clean driver install and will give the Vulkan option a try for a while - see if it helps. Haven't had this issue in any other game (although to be fair I haven't played other games for a little while 🙂 )
Almost immediate crash... Only Valheim this time though. GPU load was like 70% and dropped to zero instantly. Game stopped responding

Are you on w11? If so, try repairing your windows by: Settings → System → Recovery → Fix problems using Windows Update
Although black screens are usually related to power delivery problems, but worth a shot cuz it helped someone else recently

It is a little bit inconsistent - sometimes it's happened right away, other times I can go for 10 hours without an issue. But I will report back. Last thing I did was verify game files via Steam. Played for about an hour after that without it happening, but that might be good luck.

Am I understanding correctly that WebRTC is running and there's a UDP connection between the "server" (me) and the client?
We're trying to play with a friend, but we're constantly freezing. It seems like some packets are getting lost. I'd like to see the logs.
I think some early wiki writers may have confused RPC with RTC; Valheim doesn't use WebRTC for gameplay as far as I know. It either uses Steamworks' networking protocol or PlayFab Party's protocol for RPC, depending on whether the server is operating in Steam mode or Crossplay respectively. Both protocols are over UDP for primary gameplay. Being UDP they don't really have "connections", but your operating system and router will keep track of what endpoint replies should go to. Both sides will use timeouts waiting for replies to determine a "disconnected" state.
In the case of Crossplay, the communication is not between the game client and server, but between game client and a 3rd-party relay server and between the Valheim server and the 3rd-party relay server.
In Steam mode, you should be able to see the IP address you're connecting to in the game client's Player.log. You'll also be able to see the PlayFab lobby queries to check for a Crossplay server first in that same log file. Newer versions of Dedicated Server do not log IP addresses, but will cover player identity information as users connect. The dedicated server's PlayFab Lobby ID can be used to gleam information about what relay server was selected in Crossplay mode.
If you need to go deeper, you'd be better off using something like Wireshark or tcpdump.
I will say that if you use Steam invitations with the in-game server, it does do some WebRTC-like steps to try NAT traversal to make that communication happen.

Hello! I have a serious problem. After downloading the 39.6 KB mini-patch, my world completely reset. Houses, portals, Power Stone trophies—NOTHING remains. Everything I'd earned and built while adding new lands simply disappeared. I thought it was a bug, so I restarted the game and arrived at the place where my house should have been, only to find a completely different landscape. It feels like the world itself has regenerated and erased all my progress. Is there any way to roll back the world or the update? Or what should I do in this situation?
There was no update recently, so what ever update you had was probably Steam syncing something.
You can restore prevous world and character save backups via manage saves button in the starting menu.
It would be a good idea to manually backup your files before doing anything to save files

Since the last update, I can't click on anything in the UI with the mouse unless game window is on the display connected to the first port on the GPU. According to some Steam discussion, on Linux builds this has also happened around 2023, and touches both X and Wayland across different compositors. Is there a temporary fix currently, other than unplugging every monitor but the one I need?
I have no issues launching the game on my Linux Mint regardless of the primary monitor
What Distro? What GPU do you have? Both monitors on HDMI? Monitors with different resolutions?
As far as I understand, it's because I configured a non-primary monitor to be primary. Whatever the game uses to determine which monitor is primary reports the one connected to the first DP output, but I set HDMI to be primary, and that probably creates a conflict
I also have DP and HDMI and have no issues no matter which I select as primary. Card has 3 DP ports and one HDMI
It shouldn't really matter, but sure. Fedora, AMD, DP and HDMI, same res 100% scaling

Edit: As per the messages below it's been figured out that the mouse is not interacting with the menus on the secondary monitor (full screen or windowed) when running dual monitors through Linux (seems to be both Gnome and KDE based) With the update a bit earlier all 'menus' stopped reacting to mouse clicks.
I also think this may be a Unity thing

It would be a good idea to also wipe all install files manually, clean Steam download cache, the install the game again.
There are currently some issues on Linux regarding Steam cache and folders being re-named. Shouldn't be related to this issue tho.
Also try deleting prefs file in /home/steam/.config/unity3d/IronGate/Valheim/
There you should also be able to change UnitySelectMonitor variable to choose on which monitor the game with launch
I currently have a different issue. I can't seem to launch the game on not preferred monitor. The game always launched on preferred monitor and then I can only move to it another monitor, in which case is also works. Configuring prefs file does nothing.
I did have to reinstall because it didn't launch at first
OpenGL doesn't fix it, Proton obviously does
I will try messing with prefs though

Try adding a launch argument to Valheim properties in steam library -screen-fullscreen 1 -monitor 2
-monitor is ignored
And -screen-fullscreen makes the game forget prefs for some reason
Anyway I found a fix, but it is so incredibly stupid
Run the game windowed and force fullscreen through compositor
When it's windowed, mouse works on any display, and I can just fullscreen the window through my compositor
Not for me. Can use it to force the game to laucnh on non primarly monitor
Regardless, something is off, as the game normally remembers on which monitor it can laucnh on previous build, but not on this one

unless theres something wrong with one of the sticks i think its good bc it never hit 100% or anything

On my system 32MB of bad memory caused me a lot of pain, but not as much as a bigger region would

With that kind of hardware I'd expect either driver/OS issues or unstable RAM. Which is less likely, but happens more often than you would expect

The only thing you can improperly configure in bios that would lead to this is RAM. At least for most normal software. Considering how fragile and just bad Unity is, I wouldn't be surprised if any random option would break it
Rarely anyone messes with RAM timing, and over time it's more likely that CPU becomes degraded than RAM
You can just see that on the example of Intel 13th and 14th gen CPU failures
Bad sectors on RAM do happen, and I've encountered players with needing to replace RAM, but it pails in comparison with amount of CPU failures
That issue is unique to 13th and 14th generations of Intel CPUs. And also there's usually no need to replace RAM, you can just lock the bad parts. Unless you're on Windows, of course. Most CPU-related issues also stem from RAM. As a rule of thumb, when checking hardware, always make sure it's not RAM first
All CPUs degrade over time, more common than RAM, and more common one all CPU that boost only few cores, which is not specific to Intel only
