quite literally electric boogaloo
The thought behind irl lightning rods are like the hair on your body, a way to bleed off excess charge before it becomes a lightning bolt or static shock.
stone portals?
You can make them with ashlands materials to teleport all items
that is bloody amazing, I must inform my friends asap!
Increasing physical damage per hit gain by player character... Or slower movement and attack speed...
I hope a theme of the Deep North is different movement methods, and mastering them is what gates your progress. Skating/skiing/dog sledding, navigating ice, freezing winds, or deep snow, I think it would make the last biome feel really unique.
Especially if combat was integrated. Imagine trying to kite and land blows on super fast enemies while skating/sledding across a frozen lake, dodging incoming ranged AOE attacks and avoiding getting bogged down by enemies. Trying to keep your momentum so the ice doesn't crack under you.
The biggest thing I like about Valheim is how you are free to play however you want
The biggest complaints I have about Valheim are the times where that isn't true and you're forced through a funnel to play in 1 or a much smaller selection of ways
This focus on movement and such sounds like it would be a VERY narrow funnel and I really hope that doesn't happen
Adding new options definitely sounds cool!
Forcing you to use them definitely not
I feel they would have to add some sort of new movement option as a final reward. I mean, you've traversed the whole map south to north, giving you another way to improve travel from now on seems perfect
But as someone who really likes to take things slow with health food heavy diets, heavy armor, and shields and then focusing on parries in combat.
Being forced to run around a ton goes against all of that.
The most narrow funnel I've seen actually in game so far is Bonemass nearly requiring clubs but that's just a boss fight so I gotta just tough it out and switch back to what I like after, it's only a weapon change for me but my archer buddy toughed it out too.
If it was a whole biome that would be too much. I wouldn't ask my archer buddy to switch to sword and board for a whole biome and I wouldn't want him to ask me to switch to light armor and bows for a whole biome
That's how literally any game that isn't a pure sandbox is designed. Not much of a game otherwise if there isn't some set structure to progression.
While i see your point about not being forced into a kite-heavy, dodging playstyle, i still think there's room for movement related challenges for tanks as well. For example if there were periodic storms that could blow you in a certain directions unless you used an ice pick tool to anchor yourself to the ice, and then you have to deal with enemies while having limited movement.
The trick would be in making mastering at least one of these challenges required.
Could also add a mechanic where if you're in the lee of some terrain you're safe from the wind. Just send some rays from the player in a cone pointed into the wind of a certain length. If enough hit terrain, you're not affected by the Blown debuff. Also dont apply if Sheltered.

Would be cool if they took chop damage neutrally
High health to still be challenging even with that (1500+ health)
1.5x Fire
1x Slash, Chop, Poison
0.5x Blunt, Lightning
0.25x Pierce, Frost
Immune Spirit, Pickaxe
#suggestions message I suggested this like a month ago
#suggestions message @jagged flame oars have been explicitly rejected by the developers. Also, for future reference, discord has a search function to help find relevant info (it's in the top right and has a lot of built in functionality for filtering results to find exactly what you need).
#suggestions message Why on earth is this downvoted ?
Logical fire is better than a weak fire that goes off by itself.
People afraid that fire takes over ?
#suggestions message
Legit, since tails quickly become useless, I would not allow them to reproduce tho and need a body of water.
imo, seems like a lotta work to be put into a feature that isnt very necessary, especially if its an optional thing
Well it is a lot of work to do the feature right. Right now the feature is really worthless. Spamming fire staff all over dark forest and the fire goes off instantly.. Making this effect really futile unless you have some wood that you had stack and got lost or maybe a wall destroyed.
Either way that fire feature needs to be better and not half made like it is now ngl
I like your suggestion, makes a lotta sense. cant sprint in water effectively n its logical that you'd have more friction when walking slowly through the mud
#suggestions message I feel like dyrnwyn should've been an atgeir, given that there was already a flametal sword.
They could just make a flametal atgeir, I think a sword makes more sense because it’s a more iconic and recognizable weapon
Dyrnwyn is a sword because it existed as an unobtainable item before ashlands
Dyrwyn has been a sword in valheim for over 5 years already.
we aren't going to change that
#suggestions message Also, skin roof pieces (as per Fuling villages).
that would be cool n I see no reason not to have em... game is lacking in roof options anyways
They won't
I wasn't aware of this.
Its the original firesword from Valheim. Its been a thing you could create from meteorites back in the days.
Creating it was removed but it's still in the game along the new one
Fair enough. Still, I don't know why there wasn't an Ashmetal Atgeir; it's the perfect crowd control weapon for Ashland's swarms and an Ashmetal halberd would've looked dope.
Were horses used in scandinavia around the year 500-1000? it would make sense if they were, considdering they were used in Europe 4000 years ago.
curiosity sparked by this: #suggestions message
Horses have been suggested before and there even is a mod for them(among other rideable tames).
Not that it can't have typical animals, but I rather have creatures like asksvins, neck, morgens, and cultists, that (may) resemble animals than the animals itself.
yes there was horses.
no we won't add them to valheim
- you are not in the normal world vikings lived when you are playing.
- valheim isn't a viking simulator, it's based on viking age, but it's not a 100% accurate game.
- adding horses to the game would require alot of balancing.
- you can ride other things already.
Point being, whatever is added should for the most part be 1 of 2 things, either fantastical/alien, or lore accurate. if it's something from the real world that didnt belong near vikings, that breaks immersion. This goes for basically all entertainment based on real culture or history.
Adding ostritches or african elephants would probably break immersion.
fair
I'm sure rooting multiple enemies or multiple chain lightning procs at the same time with the aoe doesn't sound op at all...
I wish I could have personal pins
Well the aoe damage was just as op in all of the preceding biomes, so shouldn't be an issue.
But you are now comparing a simple almost guaranteed aoe stagger vs actually being able to break the whole biome with the special effects.
Again, you would be able to root multiple enemies as well as activating the chain lightning that deals 75 damage each MULTIPLE TIMES
You would have little to no reason to use any other weapon because a nature and very especially a chain lightning atgeir would destroy everything.
As if atgeir was not op enough, the chain lightning spam with the secondary would be WAY too broken
The root is from the stagger or...?
Both nature and lightning are procced individually per enemy hit.
Meaning that rooting a whole army or the chain lightning activating more than once would be possible.
Chain lightning alone would one shot whole armies. While it would make sense to be able to destroy many enemies easily, it would just make atgeir a no-brainer
That's slighly better
Ok so its either mass rooting or mass lightning, not both. I was wondering.
And while it might be an easy choice of what's the most effective, the same could be said for every mage weapon vs melee weapons. You're not "forced" to go atgeir just like you're not forced tp go mage.
I will say, the Himminaffl is not too shabby already in the ashlands despite hte pierce resistance
it does more lightning than iolite weapons
No, but why using any other weapon when an iolite atgeir is clearly the best choice?
It's like going into mistlands and refusing to use ember staff.
The only reason you would refuse to use it is because it makes the biome more boring due to how easy it becomes
Or because it doesn't fit your playstyle? Maybe you don't use it because you want to have a shield, or because you really like how cool the two handed sword looks.
The idea that the only reason people don't use the ember staff is because they're try-hards is ridiculous.
Mistland still worry's me. there is possible to jump on a rocks only if you eat 2-3 food for agility. Usualy you eat HP/aether so it is absolutley impossible to climb at the walls of rocks. How you was test this location? For my 30 years of gaming experience i set Mistlands as №1 the most worst locatiom ever made (and i saw a lot of trash). I can compare Mistlands with Emerald forest in WoW in Pandaria or underwater locations without vision. Уou cant see and cant move as both in one time - you cant do that. You want to cause players to feel a psychodrama or mental insane people? Only one location is kill all the game - remake this. Add walkable path, bridges and base building on a Teldrasill Tree, etc. From any sight Mistlands is full unplayable even if you hardcore player with very nice skills. No way. This is you biggers Mistake (lands).
Less than thinking people would not use it vs slayer just because of looks...
I just... Lol
skill issue :3
it may be a difficult biome, but god I love it's vibe
Add picking items with harpoon
do lightbulb emoji at front of your message
Aight
I for one agree with that suggestion fyi
Oopsies 5min cooldown
I gotchu
Yup
Dude, 100% of people don't run the absolute optimal route every time. I personally have just started a new character simply because i like the look of the two handed sword. You keep thinking everyone plays the game like you, and its not true. The vast majority of people playing this game can't rattle off the stats of all elemental attacks.
You act like a lightning atgeir cant be added because it would be the only option, despite the fact there already is a lightning atgeir and it hasn't made every other weapon redundant. Stop being ridiculous.
Add guns then.
you're making some good points but I believe the falla you are arguing with is impossible :p
Viking with a gun. 𝓱𝓮𝓵𝓵 𝔂𝓮𝓪𝓱
Plenty of people have managed mistlands just fine. Eat some stamina foods, wear fenris gear for exploring, dont jump off tall rocks that will kill you, make sure to equip a wisplight, make the feather fall cape... there are plenty of options. I personally think the mistlands is their best biome.
Well yeah, but still important to not let insane declarations like "fire staff is the only logical choice for mistlands" go unchallenged.
Was there already similar suggestion to mine in the #suggestions ? If it exists already please link
@fervent geyser Not* new ones, I just wanted new level upgrades to it. Does not need to change the aesthetics of it
that will work out too, but it would be great to see some new sprites
i think new ones will be better because we dont have any tools that is past lvl 3
Yes, I very explicitly stated that...
You... Completely missed the point...
Incredible
"No, but why using any other weapon when an iolite atgeir is clearly the best choice?
It's like going into mistlands and refusing to use ember staff.
The only reason you would refuse to use it is because it makes the biome more boring due to how easy it becomes"
Precisely...
The best choice.
Not the only one.
And you're comparing himminafl which just deals lightning damage to a flametal lightning atgeir which would have chain lightning
You are missing the point
Imagine multiple chain lightnings being done very easily by just spamming secondary in groups of enemies.
How could you balance that? It's not like the other enchanted choices are superb...
what does recycle emoji in suggestions means?
Already suggested
Up to you.
I would not mind... repeated suggestions are still suggestions. (there are too many to read everysingle one, despite the search bar, to be acquainted with everything)
the more the marrier i think
Guys im being chased by 1star fuling berserker (im with black metal sword and wolf armor) what do you guys suggest? + I paused the gane and have 26stamina and hes approx 5meters away
Nope
Rianu you're impossible. Stop typing and start reading.
The point i already made - that you missed - is that there already are best options in the game... yet the game continued to work. So saying you can't add an atgeir cause it would be the new optimal weapon is a bad argument, since you could use it it to say the current optimal weapons shouldn't be in the game.
As for the seemingly impossible task of balancing an atgeir with chain lightning, maybe don't allow chain lightning off secondary attack? Maybe proc it on first enemy hit? Maybe proc once and split the damage amongst all enemies hit? Maybe just dont allow an iolite upgrade? Maybe make the lightning effect different than normal? There's a ton of balancing options you're purposely ignoring.
Oh and "the best choice" is exactly equivalent to "the only logical choice." Get real.
You can avoid his attacks by walking and maybe rolling, especially if he starts his 3 hit ground pound. Rebuild your stamina, then go back to dodging and stabbing.
Also might want a different channel, this is for discussing suggestions for game design.
I definitely went two handed in Mistlands
it was a lot of fun
I did supplement with some blood magic tho for extra tankiness
I'll do full mage another playthrough
To get magic you have to play 100-300 days for 50-100 hours, walk through 5 bioms and reach Mistlands, but you still cant get magic)) You have to clear 4 dungeons and construct a LOT and more a LOT of items for wizard gear. After 100-200 hours you finally get all gear and it does not impress you after all this way. Why not make magic in biome 5? Will it make it worse? No, only better! Game dynamic is very low. You think this is fun? Fun = this is to breaking a rules. Valheim is full linear progress. You always has to little possibilities. Pikes is sill unplayavle. Daggers is useless, etc. This is very simple to undeerstand that you have to rework combat system for much better and different gameplay. You were promise to rework combat system (maybe as Conan), but still you has a lot of problems with mobs on a inclined surface, to limit actions, to little possibilities, etc.

I really love the idea of adding more atmosphere to the game.
Having ways to foreshadow the boss of the biome is always a cool thing a game can add.
Rune stones kinda do that, but I feel more can be done with ambient noises or foreboding shapes in the mist.
Magic is widely conaidered one of the most OP weapons to use. Having to go a long time and through a lot of effort is what makes finally acquiring magic feel like such an achievement. I can agree that the game gets a little repetitive from swamps to plains, could use some new mechanics, but i still think locking magic near the end makes it more... magical.
Not sure if "pike" is referring to spears or atgeir. Either way both have their uses, atgeir in particular is great.
when you enter the black forest you are harassed by the amount of types of weapons it offers, player has 3 next biomes to get familiar with all the stuff and then magic is introduced i dont see a problem.
also every weapon in valheim is useful, daggers for starting fights, atgeirs for stunning etc. you can combine them all to make your own battle style and thats absolutely fantastic. combat doesnt need any changes for now
"daggers" aka knives are fantastic as they are, my favourite all around weapon next to swords. If you consider them "useless" you clearly haven't figured out how to actually use them, probably you are ignoring the special attack on them.
You seem to have little overall experience with the game, yet you keep asking for sweeping changes. That's not very convincing.
The only actual issue I agree with is melee combat on slopes, which really could do with a fix.
Melee combat on slopes doesn’t need fixing because it’s not broken
It's definitely broken when all it takes is for a slight incline to make your attacks miss, meanwhile an enemy can hit you fine regardless, like the issue doesn't exist the other way around. This is especially notable with wolves, which are much lower to the ground and live in an area with many varying inclines/slopes, often leading to 1 sided fights when a flat enough area isn't accessible.
It doesn’t work like other games, but that doesn’t make it broken. You have to position yourself correctly.
Again what was described is why it's broken. A wolf for example can hit you just fine from above or below, but the other way around a player can't hit a wolf in either case. And it only takes a slight incline to cause the issue. And positioning yourself correctly more often than not is not possible in an environment with many such inclines and few flat areas.
I agree, I find it annoying and has room for improvement.
Ah, good to know! Thanks for sharing
From what I know the way it is is intended.
But they didn't account for the fact that it would end up being annoying on the long term
I never read any Dev stating why it was intended.
But I assume they wanted to encourage positioning and luring enemies into terrain that would give you advantage
I think if they added vertical attacking, it could use more stamina to attack upwards
Many secondary attacks already have good high/low hitboxes and cost more stamina
If you want to consistently hit an enemy below you use a pickaxe
in the Ashlands, a condor kills you in 3 hits if you're wearing a mage's clothes or if there 3 condor - instant death. What mage OP weapons?) You joking? Mage gear has a bunch of staves that don't fit into the slots. There's not enough either even to kill skeleton. You wasted your aether and you have to hit with melee weapons... and you done. This is horribly bad game design. Magic was absolutely useless in Mistland and its even more unplayable in Ashlands. Im disappointed a lot of it.
You can use the staff of protection to not die in 3 hits
stop typing without thinking. Think a lot what i typed and then think more. No need to give a answer
Alex, you're the one not thinking. Blob is correct, use the staff of protection and you can tank hits. You will have twice as much health as someone eating 2 highest tier health foods. This in turn frees you up to eat two eitr and one stamina food, since your regular health is irrelevant; just always have a shield up. If you're in full mage gear and you've got melee weapons in your hotslots that's the problem. You're a mage, act like it. Use the frost stave for single enemies, fire stave for multiple. Leave the melee weapons and shields at home.
Mage is the most OP because you can kill enemies at range while running and jumping. Unlike every other fighting style, the resource you use to attack is NOT also the resource you would use to runaway. A mage can fire off a salvo of attacks and still have full stamina for kiting.
Magic is OP. Not weak. You're just bad at problem solving.
And especially in the ashlands, you just put 2 trolls down and hit things from a distance chilling while not having eitr and they tank everything
#suggestions message I aint readin allat
Saying that mage playstyle is weak or needs buffing works as an example that opinions can be wrong
stop being lazy and allergic to reading
It's probably the playstyle that needs the less buffing
:3
TL DR he struggles with the game's combat and thinks the solution is the game should be remade.
None of it is worth reading though
In other words, a suggestion devs will certainly ignore
reminds me of skyrim modders lol
sorry but i think i may have devolped a allergy to paragraphs
in other words i did infact read the first 5 words before stopping myself
aka i saw a wall of text and gave up
I noticed the start of it was just copy pasted from in here, then promtly quit reading lol
Something tells me devs just ignore walls of text completely.
i'm being mean tho, sorry
i would likely do the same, i dislike walls of text
It could be the suggestion of all time but the fact that it's like 10k characters long still isn't worth the time
You guys are weirdly averse to reading for people on a forum. I agree his writing style is difficult but the guy's clearly working in a second language, give him a break.
I know the reason they won't allow you to attack up/down is because it could be exploited, which I assume ties into why the issue exists in the first place, because it isn't an easy thing to fix or balance without causing other issues. So it's still broken regardless, it's just not likely to be dealt with given the circumstances (and that's ultimately okay, since valheim is a game about learning and adapting to situations).
it can be easily rock cheesed
It’s not broken. It just doesn’t work like other games.
You gotta push through the spelling mistakes and bizarre statements to get to the core of the message, which is entitled whining that this game isn't like his favorite games, that all the cool stuff isn't given to you extremely early, that obviously everyone on this extremely popular game agrees it's garbage.
im averse to read that wall of text, but i do infact read books. jsut not on discord
also his spelling and that was not why i'm not reading it
@neat wolf they do have that green tint
#suggestions message What the hell is even that
I do agree magic could show up slightly earlier than endgame but wowie thats a lot of stuff that is just "i dont like the game"
yes
it's been a 2 year complaint so far
I dont think having it in Meadows /Black Forest / Swamp would be good either
Having it still be a reward to getting to the middle would be good. I think that endgame rewards could continue to be legendary weapons you find from runestones
Didn’t the speed running champ a few years ago do his speedrun using spears?
Maybe a little introduction in the plains is fair enough if so; "copying" shamans (barely cultists are mages, too). Yet I think an overhaul of the whole system would work better (magic and meelee)*
first time i used spears, I never found it back... too bad
I'm doing a spear play though and besides the annoying fact it can be overwritten by another item when you need to reclaim a thrown one, it's been aces so far.
I found it weird that spears are supposed to be long range but are shorter
Like I do wish the game would highlight your spear in a more noticable way when thrown as opposed to dropped
like a vertical white beam of light that extends upwards a meter would help me locate a thrown spear. in the heat of battle.
#suggestions message
Yeah it would be neat if it said an x/y for the materials a build piece required in the build menu
Spears are good in the context of a speedrun because they cost less resources to craft than other weapon types
Gotcha, that makes sense 👍
I do use spears. Theyre easy to craft and good for quick damage if you want to kill something fast
I like the fang spear especially because it’s only 2 silver and is really good at countering wolves
@shrewd obsidian seasons have been explicitly rejected by the devs
Please stop replying to everyone I don’t care what you have to say so stop wasting your words plz
He’s telling you his thoughts on your suggestion and why it won’t be added, he’s just trying to help
we're discussing suggestions, and he's right that the devs have confirmed they will not be adding seasons as it would needlessly complicate gameplay
Ok
Not even my thoughts, it's the thoughts of the devs themselves.
And it's literally stated in that msg.
People truly read what they want to read and not what is being actually said...
Such an immature mindset
Imagine having to wait weeks ingame just to optimize your strategy for a boss... oops, winter is gone, wait again 😂
preach
I think, we should have a dedicated chat for such matters on this server, we could call it suggestions-discussion or something
No that would never catch on
I prefer the name "suggestion-suggestions", where you make suggestions for other people's suggestions.
Suggestception
#suggestions message @open isle The current public test version has reduced spawn rates for some ashlands enemies
Thank you , Im looking forward to the new update where I can finally settle down somewhere and trully build a base where I can be safe
I use them exclusively and the only problem I ever run into with it is occasionally losing it when I throw it too far, but that’s extremely rare once you get the hang of it
Although I believe there is a bug that deletes the spear if you throw it too far out of render distance
Smiffe downvoted my suggestion 😭
And?
nothing, that's it
he downvotes most of them
so he has less work to do for sure 😏
The vast majority of ideas posted are just plain bad, unfitting, overly vague, etc. Voting also isn't purely about liking/disliking ideas. Voting based on the implications an idea would have is also a way to go about it. In that case a downvote is because there is something significantly or inherently wrong with the idea, regardless of whether the voter likes or dislikes the concept in general.
#suggestions message Did you know you can type the number you want?
Wow... my eyes have been opened xD
Good! Glad you found a solution. Imagine if you were actually someone who knew that you could press (at most) two keys and separate anything from 1-99 from a full stack of items in storage!! LOL! That'd be crazy! Some person that KNOWS they can select split-size with the number keys and they STILL want buttons for 50/50 (which is the default the moment you hold down <shift>) or set numbers from a stack! Man, we really avoided a 'face-palm' there. Phew!
i feel ya man.. took me 100 hrs into the game to realize that 😆
I dont think you have any friends IRL
This game has quite a bunch of its controls not mentioned anywhere, idk why you thought you sounded so smart xD
Wait... were you serious?
If so, I apologise. I read it as sarcasm.
really? well in that case i apologise for going off on you, i never knew you could type a number when splitting items
Ok then. I'm genuinely glad I could help. 🙂 bro hug Happy hunting, my dude.
Certain things can be difficult to distinguish as sarcasm vs a normal honest comment.
That's the pure text communication experience bb
Always a chance to misunderstand someone's tone in their responses, as it's very hard to convey that in text characters.
Its why I see people denoting their sarcasm with /s [s] at the end of their non serious statements.
im guessing the xD also adds a bit of tomfoolery, i used it back when it was just a lol expression
I'd think so too, xD is definitely whimsical
I actually like he dislikes than "no reaction". Feels better you know
However I'm pretty sure he brings about some suggestions to the team even if he downvoted it. (it means it called his attention or time)
what's everyone's thoughts on the addition of some way to increase inventory size? something like that mod that add gear slots n such, or like craftable backpacks that maybe add a row in the inventory or something
how it gets implemented would be up to the devs, but I just really think the game would benefit from some more inventory space
There's no reason to increase inventory size, but if I had an upgraded cart that I could take through portals I'd be a happy man.
I have 1000 hours in the game and literally never knew that function to specify the split existed, I’m not sure it’s as obvious as you are making it out
Oops late to conversation, should have kept reading it’s been covered lol, my apologies
I guess I can understand that, but as soon as I tried to separate a stack and there was a number in a text-bar my first thought was "What if I try and specify a number?".
Well I won’t complain, I learned something new today!
Ooops
I am new here. I forgot to put the 💡 Infront of my suggestion 🤦♂️
Oh that is how I convey my sarcasm or if I'm joking, or other tonal variations.
that and c: or :x for other examples.
Sure seems juvenile, but I much prefer it over pasting emojis
@verbal elbow one of the reasons why we haven't made Wattle and daub wall pieces is that in our artstyle, it would look rubbish
Don't try to be sarcastic or ironic. people don't pickup on it online and instead thinks you want to start a fight
That is sadly true
even if you pull out all the stops to dummy proof your sarcasm, some won't get that. They will read sincerity where there isn't and jab back at you.
Same happens when you someone uses a joke answer and they can't tell you're joking and calls you an idiot.
#suggestions message
I think we just need more fish specific recipes like puffer fish to make catching the others worth while.
we got plans
don't worry 😄
You made this fishing viking girl's day
🫡
Hmm really? It wouldn't have to be smooth white. It could have quite a crinkly texture. Add in the protruding woodbeams and I think it could look quite good with your art style
@wispy nova The ingame spiral staircase is just because players cannot make a small one themselves. But wider is player buildable for sure..
Go to youtube and search "valheim spiral staircase"
damn I feel stupid now, the design is pretty simple lmao
hehe. not easy to know everything
on my defense I never made a stone tower that wide so I didn't need to think about it too much
I much prefer making them myself anyway. It's what got me into building and I've learned valuable techniques and information (like wooden doors giving very close to half and quarter spacing).
I think the current size is fine and ways of expanding it might be a bit messy, however I wouldn't mind increasing the stack size for a few items
For example troll hide stacks to 20 even though other hide/monster parts normally stack to 50
Barley flour only stacks to 20 even though it's grinded down from something that stacks to 100
I'm not sure how the space taken up by my barley increased 5 fold after grinding it down but it would be nice if it at least stacked to 50 like many other ingredients used for food so that it doesn't fill up my storage so fast
#suggestions message You aren't meant to have access to powerful tools/weapons/etc. like that early game, that's the whole point. You naturally start off with more primitive/less effective tools and the better gear is naturally locked behind progression where it's more appropriate to have it.
Sorry, but that is no excuse. First the graphics are fine and second the graphics don't matter. It would be a good addition regardless of how "rubbish" it would look.
And the developers have a much different take on the matter, which is that such an addition would be below standards, which there would be no excuse for adding such a thing. They know their own artwork/style/etc. better than anyone to be able to make that determination. It is not your artwork, your style, or your standards they are working with, you don't know all of the ins and outs to tell when something works and when it doesn't.
cant look worse than the smelter, but I digress :p
You say that but you let rianu respond sarcastically 20x a day to people in here and it responsible for starting thousands of needless arguments in this channel 😦
I've done a quick search on inventory slots and backpack and seen a few discussion points, but have there been any official comments/posts about adding a backpack?
My issue is having to have 4-6 slots for armour, 3 slots minimum for food, slots for potions, arrows, etc etc etc, leaving me with only 10 or so spots left in my inventory.
I'm more than fine with having a carry weight limit and not needing that to be increased (as we have the belt that does that) but I regularly run out of inventory slots and have to decide in certain moments what is more important and drop the "least important" thing.
we won't
giving you more slots = you will run out of carry capacity quicker
and the decide vaguer is what we want you to actively do
what is more important?
what can I stash away until later?
can I even stash it?
forward operation base with chests and defence?
etc etc
Fair enough. I can understand that. I very rarely run out of capacity (unless carrying ore/stone/wood in bulk) but regularly run out of slots. But if the weighing my options of what's important etc is as intended then it is what it is. I'll just have to start making more bulk carts everywhere 😅
if you had more inventory space. carts wouldn't have any reason to exist 🤔
if you had more inventory space, you would never need to build more bases
Overall I still haven't found inventory management to be a problem, especially when you have access to portals. Although I still haven't entered the ashlands yet, so can't comment on what it's like there (from the discussions I've seen it sounds like the amount of available items skyrockets, meaning inventory management is made much more restrictive when the space available isn't made to compensate for that influx).
You see my point then?
Sarcasm turns into arguments
(and he got warned multiple times each time he break rules. we just don't publicly show when people are warned or timed out for longer periods of time)
I disagree. I wanted 1 more row in the inventory and that being given via another item (which I would presumably have to carry, in a backpack). So I would only be obtaining 7 more slots which in now way makes carts obsolete.
Same for extra bases. My main base has somewhere between 50-100 chests, with other bases (accessed by portals) set up with chests in them as well.
What I was suggesting wasn't unlimited spaces like the mod provides, just a way in which we can use some of the materials in the game to give us slightly more slots as we regularly have to carry multiple light weight items that fill our inventory that get us no where near the carry limit.
I personally don't think it changes the dynamic or mechanics of other things like chests or carts in the game at all, but it's not my game so if you don't want to put it in, it is what it is.
I eat food out of a chest when I wake up so it doesn't go in my inventory
The inventory is out of control in Ashlands, way too much rubbish everywhere
I'm throwing away garbage to free slots up every few seconds
Charred bones useless as ever, skulls, prostite powder, sulfur, any of the meats, then you get regular bones and stone from all the things Morgens break, asksvin bladders which are throwaway trash, it goes on and on
Too many items that are used once then throwaway garbage and it turns into a nightmare trying to find the tiny Morgen sinew like a needle in a haystack
Charcoal resin is another one
Half of this crap is used for catapult shots? But the catapult is terribly designed so are fortresses because you can jump one wall then dig under the next so it's still pointless
I feel like half of the items listed don't need to exist
Then there's a whole bunch of rubbish in the Morgen caves I haven't even mentioned
Mistlands and any biome before it was nowhere this bad on rubbish drops
Could a world modifier be used to increase inventory spots or would that not really work
Cause inventory slots are more character based and not world based, IDK
The inventory we have now would be fine if ashlands wasn't the way it was
im sure they could have replaced sulfur inthe recipes with that powder, heck i dont even know in wich recipes there is sulfur
We got that, it's a battering ram but it doesn't have the slots to put stuff in
Imo simpliest solution would be to add third autoloot option - only pick up items, that allready presented in inventory. So y can auto pickup only needed items and leave all trash on the floor
I do think it would be nice if some of the ashlands materials had more uses
or maybe reduce the drop rate of some things that lack many uses like the bladders
not like many are needed to make the stuff they are used for in the first place
@wanton atlas thank you for the input on the inventory topic
"It's our game and we simply don't want it"
"Lame excuse lol don't care just add it because players do want it"
did you reply to the right guy?
bruh
usually people who suggest that are those who restart and get hit by the early grind quite hard 🤔
developers dont have a need to add a feature that players want if it doesnt fit their intended design for the game
Yes, it was an example of stranded's point.
People that think just because they're customers they have the right to demand (instead of ask) for something
They also don't need to justify every single reason as to why
#suggestions message For people downvoting having rested buff immediately upon respawn, what is your reason against it?
And before someone pipes up with "they don't have to tell you" that doesn't mean I can't ask.
they prob want to avoid scenarions where logging off is used for surviving fights. But I agree, rested and poison, bleeding, etc, should carry over
If i correctly understand that suggestion It's about instant rested buff after respawn in bed, not after log in
Zed is right, this wouldn't grant rested buff on login but rather when waking up in your bed after a death.
I think the same, for example. It would make sense if we needed charred bones to build the wooden pieces. Also some items could just be used with multiple purposes. Like the prostite powder, sulfur and charcoal resin could easily be one single item (and serve for many purposes).
And "retrosee" old drops and items like Obsidian. It has zero uses, and could be substitute with another item for the "Tool Shelf" upgrade.
It seems Ike it would be easy to abuse to me. If you die during a raid, you would essentially respawn with your full rested buff, which could take away from raid. Also, a lot of players don’t necessarily have their respawn point as their max-comfort zone. And lastly, I feel like waiting a few seconds to get your rested buff goes hand in hand with regenerating your health.
Just my opinion! Not a bad suggestion.
@scarlet glade
The "they don't have to tell you" part can also mean "don't expect to get a response", because you're not likely to get an answer from most people. And asking for people's reasoning for voting in general tends to be frowned upon, although the distinction between looking for information vs calling someone out for their vote is often lost or overlooked. In the future you can ask for information in other ways, such as saying "anyone have any insight on why this idea isn't being received well?", or simply by discussing your own thoughts to start a conversation on the topic (which others may then chime in with their own thoughts as well, also potentially leading to an answer).
Ah okay. I didn’t scroll up far enough apparently
For the serverside characters mod, it requires you to create your own character beforehand and then join using that character and the character data itself is stored in the server directory. I’m not saying I want purely server characters, but an option to use a launch parameter in the server launch batch file itself. In my mind it should eliminate the need to create a character beforehand and store the whole created character/data in the server directory. I don’t understand the reasoning behind not wanting to implement something like this. Maybe I’m not understanding something fundamental about how dedicated servers work.
Maybe im wrong on this, but if there are aggroed enemies nearby aren't you unable to be considered resting? Meaning in the scenario you described you wouldn't have Rested buff since you wouldn't be considered resting.
Yeah I don't understand why asking why people voted a certain way is considered wrong in the "discuss the suggestions" channel. I guess just not calling specific people out?
I get that no one is under any actual onus to justify their voting. But sometimes it's really unclear to me what people's objections are to certain ideas.
I mean its just an idea, people disagree with ideas all the time, no need to worry about it : )
Its not so much "worrying" as wanting to discuss people's takes on suggestions.
A Minecraft server for Valheim players?
Are you suggesting this should exist? Dedicated servers for Valheim exist.
In Minecraft?
I’d like some of what you’re smoking.
I’ve always been open to discussing why I vote one way or another- thats just my own personal code I suppose. I really enjoy having discussions, I feel like it’s a good way to learn and grow.
Reminds me of core keeper where you make or find backbacks dropped by powerful foes to equip to give you +5 and up to +20 inventory slots.
Obviously the latter to too much.
heck just +5 would be plenty slots.
The only downside is, when you die on corekeeper you keep your backpack because it's in a special slot.
Valhiem you drop everything on death so that wouldn't work that well. because you would need to pull the backpack from your grave, equip it, then take everything else.
I had the equippable bag idea as well, but implementing it with current mechanics would be difficult and inconvenient.
@scarlet glade unless no one told you. but server locking characters is a bad idea and it won't ever be added
Ore weighs more than ingots? #suggestions message
Yes but scraps weight less
It makes sense ores would weight more, because your separating the metal from the unwanted materials when you smelt it
But how does the scrap gain additional mass when you smelt it?
Right, I see what you’re saying now. Thanks for clarifying.
Could increase the weight of scraps maybe? Keep things consistent?
Ya I wouldn't mind that either
though It will probably have a more significant effect on gameplay
But i'd support either way of making things consistent
Trying to apply real world logic to a video game is naturally going to lead to issues. Many natural properties have to be dropped or altered to fit the design to make it work. For example the amount of materials put into something wouldn't actually make what you get in return if it were realistic (in a lot of cases the product ends up being more than what was put into it). So that's one potential explanation for the weight increase here. Although we'll never know the actual reasoning unless we hear it from the developers themselves.
Sure, but I think it also depend case by case
if we added the same weight to a weapon, that the ore required to make them... no weapons / armor could be weilded 🤔
I think it depends on whether that realism clashes with the way the game can be played
And I don't see a particular advantage of the way the weight is assigned in this case, other than if it's firmly believed that the currently assigned weight definitely has a better impact on the gameplay here
Silver sword would be like 1000lbs lol
Obviously realism needs to be excused in a case like that
Yes how it feels making silver sword
I just like to imagine my character is very wasteful with the crafting materials
Agreed. I also saw someone else suggest here having a character page for equipping armour like in Enshrouded. That would free up 4-6 slots for most people.
what if there were a black metal armor set as a secondary armor for plains, but it was extra heavy with exceptionally high armor value
like -8% speed per piece with -3% on helmet
with the next biome being mistlands I could see the high speed penalty feeling less bad, given a lot of the combat is in tight spaces within infested mines, where there isnt much space to run anyways
and even outside, I generally found myself moving around slowly due to the mist, even when I wasnt running a heavy armor set
I feel like it could be an interesting option at least
Hello fellow vikings!! I was wondering if there is anyone could help me transfer my Friends world to my PC?. Thank you for your time
if no one's helped you yet, try #valheim-help
Will we ever get crafting from containers without mod? It's such a basic feature
Probably not. I also don't find it a basic feature, I've seen more games without it than with it.
i would love seasons.
Seasons would no match the premise of the game. But some environmental "issues" could be added (similar to how raids occur). But nothing permanent.
#suggestions message
1.) The terrain system was not designed to support such a thing and would need a major/complete rework to accomplish, a massive undertaking not worth what it would allow for
2.) Building underground would completely nullify air based raids (the only ones that can bypass terrain walls), and you're not meant to be able to completely nullify raids as it would defeat the point
Is crafting from containers a basic feature? 🤔 I don’t really see much of a need for it in Valheim personally
Neither do I
That feature is best for games with an immense number of crafting materials
and even with ashlands, Valheim pales in ammount in materials akin to Terraria.
That feature works best there because of that.
Valheim's materials amount is ideal and easy to categorize
At least for me it is
paragraph was unneeded, but i understand
That’s pretty much how I feel about it as well. Like in Terraria, it’s super useful since there are so many materials.
Not many ways to shorten a proper explanation/a comment providing information without losing/leaving out necessary info.
God so many
over 900 according to the wiki
Yeah, that sounds about right haha
The vast majority of items in terraria are from furniture sets. I am curious exactly how many those account for though.
Yeah most are furniture from platforms and walls and building bricks
which kinda don't count in most cases
there are exceptions tho.
Rough guess after looking at the page
about 200 actual crafting materials.
You also keep many things in the inventory and are stored directly in them.
Like walls and blocks
Essentially only food is needed at high amounts in valheim
And even still it's a matter on how many you need and what exactly you need.
If you're at mistlands tier and want to explore mistlands than you should only grab mistlands ingredients to cook mistlands food.
I will say
I do kind of agree that giving an additional option to the on/off for auto pick-up, where you can only auto pick up things already in the inventory would be a nice third state to that toggle.
How difficult that would be to implement, I am not sure, but it seems way easier than making a manually configurable filtering system.
Edge case here I can see for this solution to the "My inventory runneth over with crap" problem is that you couldn't auto pick up your spear after tossing it because there isn't one already in your inventory.
I remember I played the game a long time ago and there was a tree biome full of webs, will that no longer exist? It's a shame, it wouldn't even need to be a biome, but being part of one would be really good, monstrous spider
That was the placeholder for the mistlands.
And there will not be any biomes beyond the 9 existing ones.
Would make a good sub area in the swamp.
I did like the concept of a spider forest
in the mistlands itself it would be, as a sub-area without being just rock as it is currently which I personally found very bad, I may have managed to reserve this spider forest and the current mistlands
Won't happen.
And spiders were very explicitly discarded
One of the reasons was arachnophobia, right? Or am I misremembering?
Recently, I was paying attention to some drops and there's some kind of inconsistency amoun similar ones. For example, Molten cores can stack up to 20 while surtling core is up to 10 (it could be also 20).
Also some "smaller" things could stack up to 50. Not realistic saying one could carry 9 packs of 50 units of wood. But some hides/pelts could be 50; Barley is a pack of 100, the flour should be at least 50. Things like taht would help inventory management. Also balancing some max weights of such items.
but i do agree with a "trophie" area where every picked item would have a toggle option on each item.
Yes. But due to some agreement with the publisher
Oh I wasn't aware of that
@lilac idol i dont think something that completely negates the movement speed decrease should exist. heavy armor is called heavy armor for a reason. if you have something that gets rid of its only flaw then it defeats the purpose of light armor.
maybe something to help slightly decrease could work, but itd have to be properly balanced.
I didnt say completely
I said to help negate the speed penalty
I do agree that completely negating it would be too strong
or something that maybe in some way gives a small speed boost
don't run with your weapons out, press R
don't run without rested buff.
don't run into fights, you need the stamina in the fight 😄
Don’t anything without rested
Such are the mantras of Valheim:
"Always bring stuff for getting rested"
"Don't do anything without rested"
"Don't fight new enemies without bonemass"
"Anytime, everyday, pack poison resistance"
Don’t even rest without being rested
arachnophobia is such a dumb reason to cancel spiders from the games, going with that logic bugs and dangers in the sea should be removed because some may feel uncomfortable with it
i am myself shit scared of ocean, but i know that removing features from games to make me comfortable is not a good idea. also always when im venturing into the ocean adrealine kicks in so i see that as a profit, i dont know if others have something similar with things they fear
Lethal Company solved it by replacing the 3d-model of the spider with the text "SPIDER" 😂
yea solution like that also works 😄
or skyrim modders just put bears instead of spiders in the game
There’s a roguelike I play that features large spiders as a enemy, but in the setting you turn on a filter to change them into giant crabs lol
Irrelevant
in what way?
just saying my opinion, someone started to type about spiders and old mistlands
Just block him you're talking to a classic iron gatekeeper
That regardless of whether we agree with it or not, it's an agreement with their publisher. Not even a matter of whether devs themselves want it or not, even if they do, they can't implement them
Also ignore henrik's clownery there. Just a troll that can't handle facts and information being presented.
Coffee stain said no spiders or something along those lines probably.
that's a hard one to argue with
There's the second one
Rianus pup
you sound like your at the height of maturity with your comments
alright 😮💨, cant argue with this
that is super cool
God satisfactory's arachnophobia mode turns them into JPGs of cute kitty heads
All games should do that. I don't mind spiders but always have it turned on in satisfactory
It's just so out there of a solution
I love it
tho it can be a bit creepy in it's own special way x3
ngl seeing cute things in a cave is more terrifying than a giant spider
what does the "recycle" icon mean in the suggestions thread?
Someone has already suggested it
and thats good right? that means the more people suggest it, the more likely devs might include it yeah?
No. More people wanting something isn't going to change the developers opinions
you don't think? that seems odd. 60 people requesting something may make the developers go, oh, hmmm... maybe this is a good idea, vs 1 or 2 people?
whatevs
If anything it's just spam and makes them more likely to avoid it. And even if a lot of people want something it isn't grounds for adding it. Many more factors are involved, plenty of which have a much greater impact than people wanting it. You could get hundreds of people that want firearms to be added for example even though it's obviously something that does not belong and never will.
Yeah I do find it weird when people suggest things like samurai katanas and the like.
@tulip narwhal You're objecting to the facts, guess this discussion is over already
Well I guess I was thinking more basic things like construction pieces rather than changing game mechanics
No more over than you objecting to my question
If it's related to the what is already in the game, it has a better chance of being considered by the devs
but they do have the final say. the suggestions channel just aims to help give the Devs ideas for new updates.
They know the games direction and which ideas align best with that, has the best chances of making it in, but it is never a gurantee.
The recycle is inherently neutral, merely indicating that it’s been mentioned before. Not bad, not good
Yeah pretty much.
it's best to search the suggestion channel before submitting to see if it has been suggested before.
But since you are new here, sometimes you will post a suggestion that looks unthought of, but will still get recycled
Reason for that, is there was a hack that ruined the server and it had to be reset, so all suggestions before that are gone, but legacy members will still remember.
You can also throw some ideas around in discussion before posting, either to gain insight on some points that have been touched on before, or collaborate and refine an idea before posting it.
That is usually what I do
@tulip narwhal honestly I'd just try to follow the pinned posts on this board and the suggestions board. People are free to have their opinions about how things should be or what suggestions should contain, but I doubt you'll get much value out of dogmatic takes in either direction. It's a suggestions board; feel free to make your suggestions as long as you're trying to follow the actual rules.
@winter flame Ladders like that have been rejected: #suggestion-discussion message
#suggestions message Ive been wondering if the stairs could ever lead somewhere. It would be very awesome
@uncut linden
I’d imagine it’s difficult to put things up there because placing normal floors up there would probably cause water level issues
oh yeah because the dungeons are literally under the world
Nope, they are actually around 5000m up (or whatever the unit of measurement for distance is in the game).
Unless you meant they're supposed to have the illusion that they are underground, and increasing upper levels wouldn't make sense in that case.
the dungeon "instances" are in the sky?
Yep, you can get there using commands (namely flying). Here's an example: #screenshots message
No, i thought they were underground, but them being in the sky makes just as much sense to me lol
Also I think it would make perfect sense for them to have an upper level. Like we dont know how deep the entrance staircase goes necessarily.
deep enough to land on the other side i guess
#suggestions message the natural disaster is already there, it's called "the ground is shaking"
We don't have to many natural desasters up in viking land
Tornados specificly isn't a thing on this side 😄
Add them then.
I'm sure literally everyone would love having their bases completely destroyed with absolutely nothing you can do about it.
Literally everyone already loves the easily avoidable troll raid so now we would have NOT avoidable natural and destructive natural disasters
Literal synonym of fun
#suggestions message theres an option to set difficulty to lower if you have issues, also if you had any difficulties with ashlands they will be polished
#suggestions message Maybe it should be, but it's not. So, let's not do that.
@jovial cliff There is a way to do that already. Hover your mouse on the icons and right click on the pin you want to toggle. All those icons on the map will "vanish" until you click on the icon again.
Doesn't right clicking remove it completely?
not the icon on the map. Those icons on the right side, where you select them. If you right click, it hides the icons ON the map.
nope. you toggle that pin icon group on and off
I never knew that
Thanks
Is there a way to see the date in which you created the world, or maybe how much you played on it?
Same question for players (time played and date created)
I'm asking before making the suggestion
@lilac idol the Ulvs aren't Fenris.. They are humans who transformed
So
What it means is that their fur is not fenris hair, thus you naturally can't get fenris hair from killing them.
Just curious, why should fenris hair be so plentiful? I feel like if it was so easily obtainable, it would detract from the frost caves.
You still literally need to go in them for the boss tablet
Doesn't change the fact that getting fenris hair other ways would still detract from frost caves, considering fenris hair is one of the primary reasons to go to them. Not to mention stone buildings out in the mountains can also have the vegvisirs.
Fenris hair is the primary reason to go, but they don’t have enough. I rarely find more than 10.
#suggestions message flat thatch roofing does not exist because it would not function properly as roofing. That's why normal roofing build pieces are angled only.
#suggestions message you can dodge roll out of being hitched to the cart FYI
You mean the one that can be also found outside of the caves that are also notably easier?
Unless you spend hours searching for Yagluth's vegvisir in a dungeon and discover that there are none... (they don't exist).
They arent found in dungeons. They are usually found near stonehenge esque buildings which are protected by either a few goblins or 3 berzerkers depending on the size of the stonehenge
When I was searching for the dungeons I didn't know that. I thought Plains also had dungeons and it took me many in-game days to find the vegvisir. It was my first time and I played solo.
That's good to know but I still think the player interaction when harnessed should be enough context for "let go of the cart".
no that's not unreasonable, at least for some action like attack & jump (could make them auto drop it just like dodge roll does now) dunno if i'd want it to drop when I say just switched equipped items or something, I just wanted to share in case you didn't know in case it helped in the meantime until and unless they do implement such a change
I actually just recently found out dodge rolling does so and is very useful, especially since I've started using it way more anyway (could have sworn it didn't previously but could just be a foggy memory).
ever since i started playing i always thought adding Villages would be a nice idea there are already abandoned ones so why not ones that still have humans in it. would make the game feel a little less lonely for those who dont play with anyone. maybe can even trade with them for basic items or something
It’s a nice thought, but I think it’s important to remember that the world of Valheim is supposed to be a desolate abandoned place. The villages and structures we see tell a story and are memories of an old era.
Yea I understand that, what about if its a setting you can enable before starting a new world? Idk, I guess im just desperate for some company haha
It is not a city management game and very hopefully never will
You have enough dealing with everything as to add a bunch of useless and very dumb NPCs babysitting to the list
minecraft isnt a city management game and they have villlages. also I didn't think of having to take care of them. it could be something similar to the trader, they live in some bubble or they have high health and fight back
They're still different worlds and games
Maybe playing with others that have villages near your village is the solution?
Problem with that is you need to find people to play with that arent morons 😛
Im not sure how to find people since I play on xbox, no servers show when i click on community
#1024264966712340510 Should have you covered.
#suggestions message it's not meant to make logical sense, it's done that way for gameplay design purposes, in this case enemies of the same faction not harming/attacking one another (and on top of that they also help one another). It's supposed to make those group fights more challenging, and a troll killing greydwarves would make it the opposite of that.
I would find it a good thing that when you turn on friendly fire that it also counts for enemies, would be logical and the troll is stupid enough to not care about the greydwarfs.
Would it make some fights easier, certainly but would that be a good or bad thing, don't know.
I think it should stay in ashlands only to keep its combat more unique
Even in the ashlands it isn't full friendly fire, only a select few attacks damage everything around.
I checked which attacks do and don't have friendly fire very early in the testing
I tend to find them within <10m of a Yagluth altar, make sure you thoroughly check around those if you still need one.
#suggestions message @ember yacht When no players are on a boat they already lock into their current position. You can throw a log at it and it'll only bob up n down (and take damage). If you don't believe me try jumping off a boat at full speed; it'll stop dead in its tracks and lock in position. You can make your dock look however you want and it'll work.
If you mean pull the boat into a specific position, yeah that'd be nice. Wish we could harpoon the boat.
#suggestions message @eager breach You can already do a jump attack to preserve momentum while attacking
no i mean a running attack that has more range to it
I don’t see why we need it if you can already do a sprinting jump secondary to get a fast moving attack with a high stagger
jumping takes extra stamina and you are attacking from above when you would want to be attacking at a level height
You can time the attacks so they hit at the right height. Give it a try, jump attacking can be very powerful if used right, and allows you to keep moving normally while dealing high damage.
and then theres also those situations where you are in a vertically limited areas like dungeons
Sadly Valheim doesn't have extraneous movesets for weapons. No true jump attacks or rolling attacks or running attacks. Just the primary and secondary and the movement you can do before and during attack animations
And that allows for pseudo momemntum carrying air attacks.
Knife secondary exists...?
yes its a jumping atack, perfect for killing trolls in a sneak atack can do upwards of 300 damage
It won't keep your momentum like attacking in the air does. It's not actually a jump attack, that's just the animation.
@jovial cliff the time spent in world already exist 🙂
but we only have 2 programmers, so you have to be patient until we add it more visuably
@dim frost there is a double metal door in ashlands
#suggestions message It works fine, if there is a bug then specify.
@celest hinge what is broken?
The boss is just spamming his attacks to quick. Me and my friend tried to defeat it but we couldnt hit him because hes attacking us to quick and had the best possible gear.
If you have barley wine you should be able to stay inside the aoe attack for a while.
Yea we had it but than we tried to attack him he was using one attack and after 0.5sec he just use other attack. Hes just using his attacks to quick you cant do enything than theres two attacks at the same time
You need to try dodging the attacks while staying as close to him as you can. If you’re taking too long to run back you wont have time to damage him. Instead of running away from the meteors, walking backwards while blocking is usually good enough.
Yeah, or sheltering under the finger rocks. Then you can get hits in. It also helps that you pay attention to which person is being chased by meteors; the other should be attacking.
I try to keep yag underneath the pillars so I’m safe from meteors and can hide from the fire beam
Don’t hide from the fire beam, he’s very vulnerable to attacks while using it
A few of the boss fights seem very difficult at first when you don't know the right strategies and tactics to use. If you're having trouble it means you still have plenty to learn.
💡 What I would love to see in Valheim is upgradeable armor types.
For instance the Troll Stealth Bonus, or the Fenris movespeed bonus armor could be upgraded and made stronger, so they could remain viable in later biomes.
Then starting in Bronze age there is just Heavy Armor that becomes stronger with stronger metals / materials as you progress. But all the others can also be upgraded to become light armors with different buffs. And each biome gives you a new option of which light armor buff to choose from.
not the channel but i can tell you that troll armour being a thing in mountains/plains would anihilate need of heavy stuff
i gotta dissagree with that
It's useful for dungeons and other limited space environments
If a pet of mine dies, I would like the name to appear next to the remains of the deceased pet. So you can see where your poor pet wolf perished and pay your respects.
#suggestions message What Valheim meal would you eat first?
I’ve said this before, but I’ve really perfected homemade Queens Jam, happy to throw it in a cookbook lol
Oh, honey glazed chicken without a doubt
#suggestions message if im reading this right its 5 suggestions in 1, please dont do that, keep it to 1 per post @golden orbit
Please have my apologies, this is my first post. Lesson learnt...
No worries, just makes it’s easier to read as well as easier to vote
dont take it the wrong way
also with multiple in a post you cant actually vote for one and neither does anyone know whats being voted for or against
I did it my first time too lol. Would recommend just posting the suggestions from your current post individually (I do think 5 minutes per post is a bit overly slow), that way people can give their opinion individually
@golden orbit
All of those mounts ideas are impossible to add or to balance
I would not mind his suggestions 2 and 3. But please, fix Askvin controlling over our commands to simply walk. The other day, mine went after a mob while I was riding it and I had to dismount, and lose it and its saddle.
@slate fossil a reminder not to reply to other or highjack others suggestions
thx for the subtle heads up. understood
huh
#suggestions message Who wants 64/67° roof pieces? Where does that assertion come from? (Edit: Also, removing snap points removes the only legitimate way (i.e. not modded) way to get many pieces to sit where you want them to).
#suggestions message It's a pretty simple work-around to use roof pieces at present, which actually have the advantage of not suffering from weather wear.
#suggestions message still no flying mounts
that would be too op my guy
and asksvin are already good for traversing ashlands,no flying mount needed
I Meant "maintaining" (wrong wording) the snap points on Q and E, while, with the roof pieces only, pressing ctrl+ Q or E would toggle to their available angles. And I think many builders (myself included) mentions the 67º (or 64º idk) in the #building-discussion and #building-ideas .
#suggestions message bestiary would also be a solution to showing how many times you've killed a given enemy, since the trophy screen wouldn't be ideal for it.
Maintaining snap points is pretty valid, I like that - particularly when we have to swap between support beams and roof pieces.
But 6x° roof pieces?! We can't even stand on 45° pieces. Are you expecting snow? What's the point?
What's the point? more building options and more creativity
#suggestions message this would be pretty nice
Aesthetic in most cases, but I think it is better to do that with mods anyway. xD My idea would "replace" the beams and poles and angled beams into a single building piece (not only for roofs now that you said); They are basically the same thing (despite some angled differences like 45º being longer). So a single piece with that snap point would save a lot of slots from the building menu as well
It would be so much better pressing a key and my pole becoming a beam and then a 26º and then a 45º and then (if not added a 67º) back to being a pole, rather than opening the menu (or pressing shift+mouse).
You must like narrow buildings. (Edit: Also, all of the durability factors are height-based. So as soon as you increase the roof angle, you make all buildings smaller when using it.
I like more ways to express myself in the pretty cool build/design process, that's all
A combination of 26, 45, and 67 or something like that could make a really neat sloped roof for a tower etc, but this is a pretty ♻️ 'd topic tbh
#suggestions message I like it. Maybe we get the option to add 'sign' items to the ship hulls?
#suggestions message I mean, levelling crossbow skill is ridiculously tedious. But, I would suggest we solve that by balancing shots/second against melee weapons, not by introducing skill bonuses.
The main issue is that the full root set is obtained well before crossbows are accessible, and by the time they are, it would be impractical to use the full root set anyway over much more viable sets or mixed and matched sets.
@jovial cliff the bonemaw meat is what they were already referring to.
it would keep it useful for the whole game, people already do well with lower armor builds as it is. I think for those more skilled players it could be used as an advantage
@slate fossil Would be nice to make a little gate for the animal/crop farms with them
yea exactly, or for neat builds like bridges. many uses.
#suggestions message yes as long as they’re disableable in settings
@karmic sage
Yes i know and on my opinion it's ruin all. U just freely can transport everything. Who likes that - already uses easy setting for portals. I would like more serious attitude toward the portals in vikings survival world.
To be honest 50% of Ashland looks like quickie 🤷♂️. But it's only early access and all could be changed
@karmic sage / @gentle terrace I removed his "suggestion"
Highly doubt it will
I know but it's already added and they'll certainly not gonna remove it anymore.
And new portals or changes to them at this point are just unlikely
the OG teleporter was a "mobile" one where you threw a greydwarf eye into a fire
it wasn't very practical and so
and also. nowdays when players have 100's of teleporters, linking them would be impossible
Yes . I have same terrible situation. Tp almost on each island and they are still there, mobs didnt destroy them. Spammed all world by the teleports. Feel lack of responsibility for tp. Maybe somebody suggests another solution, instead current trash mode or stone portal which works like easy setting
I see absolutely nothing wrong with portals as they are now. Quite literally just a way to cut down on massive needless extra travel time (namely over areas you would otherwise end up travelling by dozens of times). And stone portals being accessible so late in the game is why they are balanced and a good reward to have for all of the trouble up until that point. The proposed suggestion would just ruin the whole portal system, and most of it looks like nonsensical additions/changes, adding a bunch of random new stuff and way overcomplicating things. There also isn't any need for a "solution" to something that isn't broken in the first place.
@jovial cliff but how would the game sort things?
Perhaps in alphabetical order
just a quick way to sort items in chests or in your inventory that are all over the place
maybe by biome then it wouldn't make it super easy
Would've been better if first portals were locked behind moder...
She's the only mandatory boss anyway so might as well give more encouragement to kill her (using the tears to build portals)
not ruin. 1st - harder no earlygame but spends less slot in inventory and usefull in midgame, 2nd tp - same on mid game but harder recipe then makes more responsibility i guess. and 3rd type - good on endgame because u can tp metalls, ships, pets but have to pay for that.
But okay i see already results
Early game portals are a convenience to cut out tons of needless tedium (again cutting out having to travel across the same old areas you've already explored dozens of times over). If they were only accessible later in the game it would only serve as a massive time waster. And metals not being allowed through them is already a solid way to keep them from being an issue (since you have to manually travel back in those cases, often with multiple trips).
nope again. attentively please. portals accessible from early game. and as for me early its maximum bronze age. its hard to travel same old areas many times there.
so after hardwork in the end game you and many other voters think its okay just take "easy portal mod"
At the end game, the main purpose of all previous metals has already been fulfilled, meaning it's no longer unbalanced/broken to take them through portals (for instance you're not going to need to make bronze weapons, armor, etc. at that point and it only serves as a building material, so why should it not be allowed through portals so late in the game for convenience?). Personally I would have preferred it to work in stages (defeat the elder and you can take copper, tin, and bronze through. Defeat bonemass and you can transport iron, and so on), but what we got is fine as well (since various metals have a lot of uses in mistlands, it's fair that that ability becomes available after that rather than before).
Dude before hitting send on your reply read it first. Just once, even. Don't hit send until you're sure every sentence actually communicates something. Bonus points if you can address what others like Stranded have said.
"Portals accessible from early game." Is this supposed to be inherently bad? Others have said it's fine as it only reduces tedius backtracking, so you need to explain what makes the earlyness of portals bad here.
"It's hard to travel same old areas many times there." What is this supposed to be arguing?
"So after hardworking in the endgame you and many other voters think it's okay just take 'easy portal mod'" If you think it's not OK you need to explain why. We have no reason to change our minds here.
I would have really liked this (portaling biome metals after the boss was defeated)
Adjacent to the subject of stone portals, what do you think about fader's power? Isn't it kind of useless after the introduction of stone portals?
I was hauling a literal boat load of silver from my longboat to the base yesterday, requiring many trips. Fader's power would have been nice then, but by the time I get it, I won't need it anymore. (unless it becomes essential in DN somehow)
@echo oyster that's not a suggestion thing. and probably not FSR into valheim no
valheim is relatively low resolution already, I don't think fsr would accomplish much?
the only improvement for potato pcs would probably be particle and lighting optimization
having more FPS doesn't help you at all in valheim
having more Cores and faster RAM helps you tho
thats not entirely accurate
I mean to a certain degree
going from 10 fps to 40 would make a massive difference
not that fsr would do this
we do hardcode a bunch of things to cores / threads
since windows would mess things up 😄
dude u absolute right about "sure every sentence......" all what i can answer again. please read attentively. and from the begining from suggestion about we disscussing, not from answer on answer on answer. not from the middle of sentence
I try to explain alll idea and i hope u will satisfied
current situation:
early game. from the 2-3 crypts player can make a portal. Its cool but not so important in early stages because all main activity is in maximum 200m range. And most important and interesting part is an exploring. All what you need is a fast tp for sleeping, or unloading your pockets and back. Sometimes you can forgot to destroy your previous tp and that most annoying then long travel. Link is used, portal on other island, wind in bad direcrion. Thats why i guess temporary tp with cheaper recipe and which spend 1 slot instead 3 - is better.
Mid game. After few more crypts and because very cheap recipe player already can make 10-20-30-unlimit portals. Portal to blueberry, portal to strawberry, etc. zero responsibility. even mobs doesnt destroy them. Players destroys and bring their ships on mountain through the tp. etc etc. And this is looks like a trash. Just ruin all traveling. Thats why i guess a regular portal should have at leaast harder recipe. Using only for an important spots (checkpoints etc), not on each bush and ore vein. Or maybe creatures should be more aggresive for portals?
End game. now its an only "easy mod" with no cost for action. U cannot tp your pets, still have to link 2 only 2 portals. Thats why i think that really cool and usefull feature is a teleport with pets. as a Bifrǫst. And tp without link just spell, YELL in tp triggerBox a name of destination
And for tp metals some payments. for more responsible.
Nobody says that tp in earlygame should be removed. please read attentively
i tried to play with fsr in x4 foundation. low resolution - looks better and for gpu easier
Being able to teleport mounts and pets would be cool true. Transporting them in a less janky way would be more desired personally.
Also sure you can make a lot of portals to every little thing in midgame, but you don't need to, but it is an option a player can choose.
A player can also choose to be very sparing with their use as well.
Ultimately it's their choice that the game allows.
I feel imposing too strict restrictions would make that level of tedium detract from playing for some.
But if the player wants to set that restriction on them self then they have the freedom to.
they can also disable portals entirely via world modifiers if they so wish.
But the game allows portals at that stage.
And I think that's a good stage to introduce the player to them.
It hits them with the knowledge that "Yo this world is massive and you might need these for your own sanity."
That is my thoughts on the matter.
For instance, I like to be sparing with my portals, treating my world like a classic Final Fantasy/Dragon Quest overworld map where there are like 1-3 portals on a continent depending on it's size.
Instead of a hub, I use a "stargate" where I dial in it's map tag and link it up to a nicely made portal station.
Make it's feel more mystical and special if they aren't all over the place and have like podiums or arches or a temple.
That's how I use them when I play.
I have a similar playstyle, and I agree with your take. Good stuff.
Ah ok, i see, i am still relativelly new to the server so i have to figure out how things work here, its just that i am a content creator, not gonna say where or what channel since i do not know if that is allowed here, but anyway, i asked if its possible for Valheim to have Fsr simply because the game seam to stress my setup quite badly, not like any other game i streamed so far, i even had two casses of my Pc completelly shuting down on its own to evade overheat, i just thought that maybe implementing Fsr would help out content creators not runing the latest and greatest hardware, but ok, you gave me a clear answer and i will respect that
I generally use 1 for when I'm out exploring, and others are permanent (like one to world spawn for hanging boss trophies/switching out powers), one at each boss altar in case I want to fight any of them again, etc. Any time I end up with more than one temporary exploration portal it gets to be difficult to manage, so I avoid it as much as possible. Fortunately I have the choice and ability to establish permanent portals early game, so I don't have to backtrack later.
Well. Some rules..
You can always ping me since I am a community manager. Never ever ping any other developer.
You can post your Valheim related content in #self-promotion
Alright, got it, thx Smiffe
How do you post a suggestion I do !suggest before hand and it doesn't work?
@willow swift Also, that they change the "Corpse run" to "Adrenaline rush" or something. Idk, it may fits better.
yeah, but I'm more concerned about using the same icon. It seems like a bit of a hack job
I do understand it. xD I mean, (if) they are going to change the icon, why not the string? xD
It would lose its charm if it was renamed to something more generic. Not to mention the icon would no longer match the name. Also, they are referring to changing the icon for wind run, not corpse run (since the icon for corpse run perfectly fits the name).
I mean, "(to) run" conveys more like a long action whereas the buff last 30 seconds, so "rush" would fit better, ain't it?
About the icon, Yeah wind run is the icon to change.
Anyway, just lexicality*....
Will Valheim one day have an AntiCheat? The only mod that does this (AzuAntiCheat) is no longer blocking the Cheat Engine, playing on servers has become hell...
That's just to be expected when playing with random strangers or opening a server to the public, not something the developers need to be concerned with. Play with people you know and trust and it greatly reduces those issues.
I had to purposely resend an idea someone made cause they made it super op and I didn't like it that way 😅
They are just concepts, don't worry. xD And it would be thought through if implemented ^^
#suggestions message There is already an obliterator, which is unlocked at the swamp stage.
Thank u so much. I understood a one important thing. Nobody read full long msg here 👍😻
We read your post, the broken English just made it impossible to understand a lot of it (the communication errors are on your end, not ours, and the lack of self awareness is blinding you to that fact), and the overall ideas were just odd/bad/unfitting. Not being able to set up permanent portals early game causes the same issue of backtracking (something that only serves to add needless tedium and time wasting) as if there were no portals early game in general (a distinction you missed/didn't understand). And the new portal you proposed is a very poor execution of the idea and doesn't fit well in the game at all (requires a lot of extra nonsense and overcomplicates what's meant to be a simple convenience feature).
We already have freeze glands that are used in food
But the more fps you have the better game experience (45 is the minimum for normal gameplay). I have 4060 and i5-12400f, CPU has just ~20% load, whereas GPU is always 80-100% at native 1920x1080 / 2880x1650(?) with 80% scale. So wouldn't dlss greatly increase everyone's fps if it reduces GPU load?
not really when the game does alot of other things 😄
like for example. Counterstrike only move around things
it doesn't have to calculate load bearing on your house
No
@split yarrow Valheim isn't ment to bloat so people who played 1000's of hour will have something new all the time
valheim is ment to be played from start to finish
@lofty wave you're assuming serpent shield is very easily obtainable...
It is though
You can spend dozens or even hundreds of hours without ever encountering a serpent, even less killing it.
Even much less killing enough as to craft and upgrade the shield
really? i litterally see one everytime i go sailing and then mark their spawn locations to avoid them only to enounter one on the detour
They don't have spawn locations. They spawn randomly
That doesn't stop me from marking where I encountered them
In +150 hours I have only encountered a single serpent.
Crafting that shield depends on RNG, making a much more easily craftable shield better or equal would make it less rewarding. And it still has pierce resistance anyway, so even if buffing the iron shield it would still be better so that wouldn't accomplish much
That's why I only asked for the block force to increase. It's not supposed to be better in most situations, but there needs to be something it's useful for.
I'd expect a heavier shield to be better at knocking enemies away
#suggestions message why not?
I did think it referred to block armor and not force instead...
But either way, having high block force isn't necessarily a good thing so the iron tower shield having increased force would be less useful. Pushing enemies away due to blocking makes counter attacking harder
I'm afraid that's skilltravel issue. Sail more.
Exactly and it feels that updates focus on people that have 100% the game and adds new end game biomes hence my suggestipn
Valheim is in early access, focus is not on the people that have finished all current biomes but on finishing the game. To me it's quite logical that they are going to finish the new biomes first.
its not foxued on people that have completed it, its focused on finishing the game
its not favoring one kind or another its focus is to finish the game
Yes and again it's focused on story progression/new content not it's base if these updates are what finishes the game no offense the end game will be unreplayable
but that is the point. we are working towards 1.0 while fixing bugs alont the way
Idk I haven't played in 2 years it just feels like the start is the exact same and nothing has changed it could just be me
things have changed. but what you're asking is for is bloat
and just adding more things will make the game just bloated with things that only exist for the reason to add more bloat
I'm asking for use in early game content the necks for example have no use except a food source
won't happen
it's what it is for a reason
the new people who will join after 1.0 will have a nice descent game to play. without having to do 1000+ hours just to finish the game
but if you haven't played for 2 years. we added hildirs request. so that's new for you
That's kinda my point the stuff I've suggested would help you easier get to end of game imo
so take your wasp nest idea for example
it would just another thing
it doesn't add to the game progression, it gives alternative ways to do things
A way to get fine wood before axe progression
it's just another bloat thing in the game
The game is easy enough as is, no need to make it easier.
but we don't want that 😄
I had 212hrs in when I last played and I couldn't get past the swamp stage 😅 on easy
And...?
Did you read that they don't want it to take 1000hrs to finish the game?
You mean trolls?
The amount of time spent on the game depends 90% on the player, not the game.
Do people beat trolls before axe progression I beat trolls after bronze tools
People can decide to complete the game in 100 hours or in 10k
breaking chairs and barrels outside of stone houses in black forrest also drops finewood
or some old chairs in certain locations in black forrest
Trolls are not locked behind anything, you can find them 10 minutes after starting the game if you want.
And then luring them into breaking things. The option is already there since day 1
Yes but what's the common amount of time for people just trying to complete it like me?
most people get to yagluth within 40-60 hours
100-200? I don't know, it's not really a relevant point.
If you want to complete it then do it, them move on to another game or continue playing. It's up to you
then mistlands and ashlands add about 10-20 hours per biome
Live service games are a mistake
Pushing other trees into finewood trees breaks them and voila finewood in the meadows.
???? How it spent me 30+hrs to just finish one dungeon
yes but that's not a intended feature 😄
Maybe people play this game in multiplayer 🤔
It takes longer in multiplayer because you need more materials for everyone
The best way currently shhh
Really? What do they buff enemies?
yes/no. depends on the game 😄
As in crypt from the swamps? I finish them in 10-30 minutes and that depends on how big the dungeon is and how many iron there is to mine.
Exactly.
The enemies get a bit more health but it's slower because multiple players need more materials than one player for equipment
I died like 7 times in them before finishing
It's because it created the mindset of people thinking devs should dedicate their entire lives to developing a game so it "stays relevant".
Despite the game itself being completely irrelevant whether it has an active player base or not
One of the reasons why I always have a portal at the entrance but after a first playtrough till end of mistlands that took 150 hours or so, I learned quite a lot and almost never die in the swamp now.
See I came from pc to xbox and I had like 4 main mods on pc so I'm trying to get used to it.
1.plant anything
2.first person
3.Un restricted portals
4.clock
Unrestricted portals exist now (Stone portals made with ashlands materials), and you can change a world modifier to allow wood portals to teleport all items.
Unrestricted portals is a world setting now.
This was 2 years ago?
Nope, last big update.
Thank you I just changed it found the world setting
Personally I wish valheim could do an internal game modding community (Similar to skyrim/fallout/minecraft) but I know alot of consoles are against that so probably not possible
If you want to find the time, point the camera towards your shadow and use the arrow on the map that shows your rotation (not the wind arrow). If it's facing west, it's the morning. If it's facing north, it's midday and if it's facing east, it's dusk.
Or build a sundial.
I do agree we need some rebalancing/retro-adaptability regarding previous biomes, however that's work for after 1.0. I bet they are taking notes on those urgent fixes yet, I don't see reason to halt their intended progress to see "backwards". Give it time.
any kind of re-balance would be amongst the last thing we did before 1.0 release
no point in re-balancing now, and then do another one, and another one
tweaking ashlands, yes, but older biomes? no
Yeah, I see that. and it could even be after 1.0. after a month of sweet deserved vacations.
ps: the game does not feel like early access (despite a biome left). xD
Just go in ocean in storm. On 100 day in game already had 4 spots. They are not despawn
Out of curiosity since I haven't gotten to late game is their a way to increase food buff limit from 3 to 4?
there's a lot of stuff you can waste time in, but that's good since it makes your playthrough even more unique
Nope, 3 foods is max.
Also one mead from the same family each time.
Alright was just curious about later game areas ima assume the food buffs and armor make up for it
later game foods are better than your early game foods naturally
Yeah, each biome has better food than the previous one and has better armor and weapons.
Finding the right balance for your playstyle is another thing though.
Valheim is based on Norse mythology correct?
I would say ‘inspired by’ is more accurate
in my opinion you make too much aggressive noise and have no patience. All your answers seem to be on 1-2 sentences from the message, ignoring everything else. Hence the misunderstanding and misinterpretation. The gameplay you described would not have changed and got some benefits, but unfortunately it did not get through. even after several attempts to explain. good luck. Will write briefly for u
Is their any lore in why the player was cast into valheim what'd he do wrong? Cause from what I know valheim is thr place Odin cast his enemies.
According to the lore, it was once connected to the World-Tree along with the other Nine Worlds in Norse mythology and was considered the tenth in that order. At some point, Odin severed the boughs of the World-Tree that led to Valheim after he cast down his foes to this world and designated it as a prison for them.
What toomuchdogg said is true loosely based on.
Too prove your worth to the gods.
Good question! I’ve always wondered if the player teetered on being worthy or not, so Valheim is a sort of purgatory where the player proves themself to Odin
But that implies he lived a unsuccessful life beforehand as the lore goes Odin cast his enemies into exile onto valheim meaning the playable character did something horrible
I don’t know if the world is exclusively a world for Odins enemies, right?
There's definitely some creative licence going on as relates to traditional Norse mythology.
maybe he didn't die during the battle and make it into valhalla, but died after the battle and has to prove worthy to get to valhalla
Is valheim a actual north mythology or is it added onto norse mythology?
Valheim is not real
I think it's losely based on Norse mythology.
Fleeing a battle is highly frowned apon maybe that happened
probably
In the start of the game something is said that Odin heard about his enemies were growing once again in strenght, he looked to midgard and sent his valkyries to scour the battlefields for the greatest of their warriors. Dead to the world they would be born again in Valheim.
In the Norse culture, warriors who die on the battlefield are transported to Valhalla by the valkryies. there's no purgatory or 'prove your worth' middle ground.
Oh so we the cleanup crew 🤣
@short wing exactly. Its kind of based on Norse mythology, but we needed a reason to be here.
The other thing to think about is that in Norse culture, battle and fighting against enemies isn't a punishment, so for the fallen fighters who are brought here, it's just more fun.
Kind of. We are the greatest warriors from Midgard to best Odin's Foes because he can't do it himself.
or because he's busy ruling the other nine realms.
He's sending us here because it's more fun.
Isn't frenrir odins greatest enemy it's said in mythology frinrir will kill odin
It is cut off from the world tree so might not be able to really reach, it.
He can't be too busy though, with al the spying he's doing on us.
True, I guess.
Maybe Fenrir will be Deep North boss.
It'd be cool as a final boss it'd make alot of sense to but since it's loosely based on mythology I won't bet on it
i don't think they will take a actual person/creature from norse mythology as a boss, as seen with them not taking surtur
you're both probably right. It's not likely
They did add Odin tho even I'd he's just watching....menacingly
and Thor.
Theirs a thor????!
after you kill moder he can fly across the sky on thunderstorms
That's cool I love easter eggs
Wow. TIL
I've only seen Thor once.
they will always make a own boss because thats more original and it can be more of a suprise
but i find it unnessecary to make the ashlands boss not even be shown on his stone and his real name never spoken, could be for worldbuilding reasons though
A loki easter egg would be cool loki likes disgusing himself as others so seeing a random animal shapshifting could be loki I think that'd be cool
I hope the deep north's boss is smaller than the other bosses because they're all so big, we haven't had a small boss yet.
there is some talk about the frozen child from that one dream in the ashlands, i suspect it could be a reference to loki since he's a jotunn
Most likely that, also if we're talking north it's quite likely we will meet giants, and bears. No clue if either could be a boss...
in the end we do not know, we will see when the concept art rolls around
Wt if loki was the one guiding us All along and instead of saving yggdrasil by killing the fallen we are instead making things worse?
And the odin/thor we see is loki in disguse?
could be true but riding on a cart pulled by deer across the sky and shooting lightning seems hard to fake
I feel like we're pretty overtly the bad guys here. Odin took his enemies (not necessarily evil), trapped them in a dimension to die. They didn't and instead thrived, and even though they still can't escape and thus pose a threat to Odin he isn't standing for it. Instead he's taking his dead believers who earned Valhalla and instead tasking them with killing his enemies, incidentally trapping them in the same hellish place.
Explains some of the things the Forsworn say after you kill them, like Eikthyr insisting the wild will never bow to Odin.
#suggestions message yes, more food to cook and a reward for exploring, only thing i wouldn't do is have only 3 of 6 unlockable per world
One of the runestones from Black Forest states that there were seven forsaken banished to the realm, and we have seven bosses right now. It would be cool if the final boss was a creature born into the cold hell that is The Deep North and has risen to immense power. Tying it up into the lore of the winter child from Ashlands and the dream would also be really neat.
I mean, it could be both. It's just a suggestion and as u said a reward for exploring. xD
that would be cool
i extremly love farming plants and food in this game, hope if gets some neat additions ahem... flametalcultivatorasseeninmysuggestionplease
It's what I wanted for ashlands boss..
Instead we got a ||fire-breathing dragon... In a fire biome...||
So original
Why giants?
#suggestions message There is a reason to craft the iron tower shield. Its easier to get the materials for
The greatest warriors of Midgard are dropped naked into a forest and Odin says, "Go collect raspberries and kill deer."
Name one great warrior who didn’t have that happen to them at least once
That one warrior that was a vegan and was allergic to raspberries.
That one’s doing a no food challenge run
I imagine they update the count of forsaken everytime they add a new one.
#suggestions message I like this suggestion, in particular it's ability to provide a use for accumulated trophies. Could unlock improved damage or yields for killing certain enemies, the more trophies you spend.
it would be nice if the page that displays all the trophies you've collected also includes enemy info on said enemy types
then finding trophies could be how you gain info on each enemy type
might need to be a little more complex for similar enemy types that share a trophy
could add multiple stat pages for those
There's a page that shows all trophies ive collected?
iirc you access it from an icon in the top right next to the ones that show your buffs/debuffs and toggle pvp
Oh yeah
thought it was more of a list thing with stats and stuff that was in suggestions before and I was like "what? that exists?"
oh I just think it would be nice if it was updated to include such info
well thats a very common suggestion
the idea above made me think about it
bestiary sort of thing
Yeah, a bestiary is a very common suggestion lately (one post got very popular then a couple of other people started making their own to ride on the success of the initial one). And the trophy screen simply would not work for that purpose since not all creatures have a trophy or will ever get one.
Imo ghosts should be removed or given them a purpose; at least bats have a chance to drop leather, but I think chickens must have a trophy.
where are you gonna fit that trophy in the trophy tab, chicken head hanger?
Maybe. They could update that as well, first line feels like something is missing.
maybe chickens could go there
then a greyling trophy to add to my greydwarf collection and the first line is filled
yea beastiary would be nice
in norse myth frost giants play a large part, the world was created when odin killed ymir, and from his body the world was created, i would be also surprised if we did not get 1 more end game-ish troll sized enemy
Doesn't mean they should be in valheim. Especially when they are very explicitly dead
You literally mine their remains...
#suggestions message honestly tower shields in general are terrible and need a rework
#suggestions message bro sometimes drakes drop 3 freeze glands or goblins drop 3 bm on 1.5
absolutely wild
1.5x1 =3 somehow XD
On x3 they seem to drop between 3-6. Tested deer hide on x3 and I'm getting between 4-7 (they normally drop between 1-2, so the expected range on x3 should be 3-6, but the high and low ends are off by 1 somehow). Bone fragments from skeletons work normally (they only drop 3 on x3 as expected).
dont they drop 2 bm though so that should work out to 3 at x1.5 shouldnt it?
No. Finding of dead bodies doesn't mean that they are dead ALL. During the violent conflicts are dead bodies found but usually both side of conflict are still alive.
except humans are numerous and i dont think giants are numerous if that makes sense
But still finding corpses in one biome doesn't mean that they aren't present in biome another.
0 star fuling drops 1 normally up to 2-3 with resources on 1.5 which is wrong. Similar a drake drops 2-3 freeze glands on 1.5
Also blobs drop 2-3 oozes on 1.5.
#suggestions message We already have tamed wolves and summoned skeletons
Fair.
Either way, would be much better to have something more unique rather than the cliché of getting Norse giants in a Norse game
"send out your warg riders" moment
@trail marsh less ridiculous than having to farm the items needed to summon the boss AGAIN?
Especially when some of them are even non-renewable or very extremely hard/tedious to get
Munin's hint leaves it a bit ambiguous on whether the Jotun went extinct or not. We only see remains and so far only in the mistlands, and it's said they ruled over the 10th realm and were ousted by some other power (something else that's left ambiguous on what actually killed them). For all we know that "other power" completely wiped them out and not just in the mistlands.
Don't forget about all the damage you might have already done to it going to waste.
Imagine almost having killed fader for then to make a mistake and die and you have to summon him again and do all that damage again.
Me... lmao. Fader was like 2 hits away when I died (potion wore out)...Sure I died a second time, but third is the charm.
3rdieth
The altar could for example be scripted to not require the resources again until the boss dies
- i don't know about others but I always have tons of summon resources
For fader it seems the amount is rather fixed, 20 forts and when they are gone no more bells.
Same for Yagluth, moder and the queen.
Only bosses you can keep on summoning is eikthyr, elder and bonemass.
Well that's the punishment for dying, it's no victory dying hundreds of times end everytime move the health bar little, that way you don't really beat the boss imo. Look on souls games for example they also reset the boss
They reset the boss but they don't make you potentially spend hours finding more items to resummon the boss
I agree that in Ashlands it would be bad
Nevermind it was just a suggestion it would have to be executed smartly
It would be bad in mountains and plains too, and if it's inconsistent between bosses that would be weird
This is not a souls game and slogging away for 15 minutes or more over and over again while the terrain gets destroyed and other mobs come to interfere and fuck things up till you get a clean run trough isn't fun.
dying is sometimes necessary since you won't know the attacks and won't be that good at dodgin them
If you just raise your shield and watch the attacks to learn them you'll usually be ok, unless you're using a buckler
Then again it's cliche to have generic fantasy monsters like slimes and skeletons in a viking game than viking inspired enemies. Good thing Fulings are not called goblins.
Then again what is possibly a good enemy idea for the deep north enemies anyway? Giants, frozen elemental enemies or golems? Maybe bearmen or berzerkers? I hope they don't add fenrigs as reused enemies like flaming undead in the ashlands.
An enemy that can cast a spell to apply bukeperries debuff
It could be for a short duration that only loses one food
But if the enemy is starred it will make you lose two or three
Terrible idea. It would make fighting enemies bad and food resources worse. Requires stacking a lot of food and if it lasts for 10 seconds then you're dead.
It's perfect for a challenging enemy in the final biome, not something the player constantly has to deal with
Well if it's groups of it then it's basically not fun to deal. Almost artifically difficult without being fun. At least ashlands makes you on your toes while getting great benefits.
Though I'm clueless what difficult iron gate would come up with when designing difficulty In deep north.
I don't mind as long as we don't get more feint attacks.
Feint attacks would be fine if there was an earlier indicator the enemy was using one, so the player doesn't have to guess
Well to be fair the charred warriors were actually fun enemies to fight. Sure it's hard to tell when they attack but you can already dodge 90% of their attack due to slow swing speed and speed itself and you're not gonna take hots if you know what you're doing.
Could be really good to see for returning enemies using feint attacks.
the big problem with this idea is that you rarely fight only one enemy at a time
sure, it would make a one on one fight a lot more interesting, but if there are multiple enemies, losing a third of your maximum health, or a big chunk of stamina, would really, really hurt
And sometimes I do wish there were better options but it is what it is
they could add that to bonemass
Good to know, still they are a pain to get to the moder altar, even more so when her mountain hasn't got enough eggs.
I believe the queen has an altar that takes seeker soldier trophies to summon her once you make the deal breaker and open her door.
It would be kind of weird on having to use another sealbreaker to resummon her when the door to her lair is already open.
Eikthyr, elder, moder, and the queen can all be resummoned indefinitely. Bonemass can't, but practically speaking it doesn't matter with how many of the summon item you get. Yagluth can't either since the only renewable source of totems is cut off after beating him. Can't comment on the Ashland's boss since I haven't made my way there yet.
You can get renewable totems from the Zil and Thungr raid
Oh, forgot that was a thing.
It would be very slow and luck-dependent though
Point is still valid as hildir's questline is separate from the main progression
So getting a renewable source of totems after Yagluth is a matter of "if" rather than "when"
Also I am pretty sure this game is not trying to be dark souls
The way the bosses are done are absolutely fine.
last boss is so cool tho
They're all cool in their own way imo
#suggestions message
You go from an undead eternal army of Ashlands to fight alive-ish combatants that have set themselves up in the DN and will fight to protect their territory you encroach on. They will be brutal and enduring and fight smart to always keep the player on their toes. Being able to rally or spawn other troops would be an interesting mechanic and make the player feel like the enemy is equal to their own power.
@chrome sluice troll raid is literally the easiest to avoid...
Run away from your base. There, problem solved
Just avoiding attacks and running away until timer runs out is enough
Not to mention something that could ward off enemies would completely defeat the point of raids. Already bad enough that terrain manipulation is exploited for that purpose, or spamming work benches/etc. to prevent spawns altogether.
#suggestions message Just let me attach it to an item stand!
I would have plenty of "new" ideas (not knowing if they have names or already exist) but that's would be my suggestions. Like this one here: #suggestions message
#suggestions message @unkempt mica nope never gonna happen since its mutliplayer only
you could say it in a nicer way 😄
but yes. the idea would be unbalanced singleplayer vs multiplayer
i could? uh yea maybe, just woke up and the first thing i had to do was bring a tech incompetent person their phone cause they didn't receive a SMS from the bank that they got money
(even though the bank doesn't send a SMS for that)
still had to do a virus check
oof 😄
some people needs to have a dumb phone
to many hackings, spoofings, etc etc on modern tech
1-2 miss clicks and your phone is cloned in some virus factory
an old flip phone that has no access to any fancy apps and isnt touch screen so no wierd swiping
can only call, sms, and play some music
@lofty wave That would destroy your whole world
Not if you destroy the enemies first
What’s the point of a raid if it doesn’t cause a little destruction?
I miss my nokia 3330, such a solid thing, I had it for 8 years and then lost it.
A car drove over it when it fell out of my pocket when I was going for a bike ride, got washed in the washing machine, soaked true when I was caught in a rain storm.
It kept on working, the letters were faded and there was a slight chip of a corner of the case but it worked.
Just taking it apart letting it dry out and put it back together and voila.
mine was a nokia xpress music
strong as nokia ever was. extra memory for MP3's + built in radio + webradio, and I think it had some build in chip for music stuff. might been software only but..
i did ahve an old nokia as well though no idea what nokia it was
what i do know is that is survived pretty much anything i threw at it (not that i was doing it on purpose) but still only got a new one years later and only becouse i wanted something slightly newer
Morgan+Gjall are the most destructive enemies in the game, it would be mayhem
by the time you kill them they would already have done alot of damage
It’s a raid that would only happen towards the end of the game, any player should have good defences by then
At 1% that (i think) is lower than the lowest current raid rate.
And with the low chance there’s a possibility a player won’t experience it at all in a playthrough
Sounds horrible
also I think the morgen and the gjall would fight eachother since they are part of different factions
For even more chaos
lol
It’s 1% because it’s triggered by sleeping, not every 46 minutes like other raids
Raid: you have angered the shorelines
Effect: spawn 20-30 neck at any given time during the raid 😋
Nooo then I’d need to kill all the necks it would be fun to fight that many though
Some people don't sleep, so there would be a way to prevent that raid chance...🧐
It could be at the start of a day, then?
If you want is to be more like the wolves raid, then sure, every morning/start of day.
#suggestions message atgeir works fine for that
that would be extremely difficult with deep north enemies all be 2 starred
2 star charred wouldn't be fun either
@dense ridge #suggestions message you can do this now with an atgeir or 2h club for plains crops
Not for carrots, turnips, onions and shrooms, harvesting them with a scythe would also be weird though.
Some tool to make harvesting and planting faster would be nice though.
Barley and Flax are the exception. It get tedious to harvest crops one by one when field is big
a lox drawn planter?
Or remove the debuff (slow) when harvesting. So we can sprint spam E....
i made a suggestion once about a 3m wide flametal cultivator wich you could sink into the ground and push, harvesting that way
Would be nice but I'd want it earlier than ashlands, black forest or swamps would be a nice spot for it.
I've also made suggestions among those lines for a multiplant and harvest tool but that was from before the crash.
#suggestions message One way to achieve this right now is to half bury a door in the ground.
What is the reasoning behind No to unique trophies for starred creatures? It was suggested quite a lot , but I see devs and discord dwellers are against it.
As cool as it would be, there would be a massive increase in inventory bloat, which imo outweighs the positives.
I seriously doubt anyone is downvoting it because of the concept itself, because starred versions of trophies would be amazing to have.
Fair point. I were already running with auto-pickup off most of the time
exactly lol me too
Do you have it on?! xD hehe
I have never had inventory management problems before Ashlands tbh. It has double the numbers of mobs of mistlands (if excluding dvergrs). 4 charred's, morgen, F.valk, asksvin, vulture, L.blob... (not sure if Skuggs count)
imo there's some replaceable items in the ashlands that didn't need to exist
#suggestions message - I'd argue that starred creatures need to drop something rarer than their base drops. I don't see how adding 'quality' is any different to what's happening now with multiples of their base drops. Maybe a starred fuling drops a fuling totem, or starred trolls drop copper/tin ore; something like that.
100%... like proustite, prostatie.... that powder and that resin. Sulfur would do all of its craft*
and also the morgen heart, it should either become more rare or removed, it's only used for the armor chestplate
Also I see no reason for a morgen heart... yeah
And if you backtrack, And discount arrows, Obsidian is also an useless item.
and when me and my friend found charcoal resin for the first time, we thought it could be used as new fuel, it's just for pots
yes but you take that with you like once and there's not much other stuff in mountains
Charcoal resin would actually be a great material for reinforcing wooden builds to withstand the weather.
I have a lot obsidian (many caves explored) because I thought it would have a building purpose.
We have resin... there was not need for a "charcoal" version
wich reminds me, time to obliterate resin from the greydwarf farm again
Ok, so resin withstands weather. Charcoal resin withstands fire. The details are not important. The point is that there's not enough thought going into how the game progresses.
A normal resin could be hung on those cooking irons things (forgot the name) and turn them into "stiffened resin" and apply that to wood...
or they could charcoal resin burn in smelters as long as 10 coal
I won't ever turn Hazard fire on....
I mean... if you already have wood, is there a reason to stiffen it? 😛
xD well, if you see that way...
But it warps on water, so you would stiffen it with that resin xD
i turned it on, got two finewood chests full of coal and now i have turned it off, acutally poses a new challenge
Not when, as I saw in a video, there no way to put the fire out (for newbies) other than breaking the pieces connected, and the fire spreads too fast (it reminds me of old fire spreading mechanic of DST)
now they smolder first, then it has a window that burns
well i never got to the point where it burns, since i knew the dangers and built wisely
Unless you're one of the valheim game-designers, you "knew the dangers" because you researched it from the experiences of other people.
I lost half my kitchen and some chests upgrades, not much.
no because i expirienced it in the ashlands in another world
And I saw once in a video (iirc was a Dev) that to add a new creature, this creature must have a drop, and that drop a purpose. However (I'm not blaming the devs) they didn't take into consideration the cluster of items ashlands has to offer... Therefore they had to give a "single" purpose for such drops.
In context, you realise that's no different, right?
in some way, yes
Obsidian should be found in the ashlands where there is actual lava... idk hehehe
maybe all high mountains in valheim were once volcanos
I have a cluster of mountais that resembles one... if I had the time I would build a "volcano" there...
That's a really good observation. If I were to trust the devs, I'd suggest that they envisioned the Mountains as 'very old' Ashlands and made obsidian available... 😂
@cerulean bolt When you roll (block+jump) you can’t take damage to enemy attacks, which is perfect for getting your items back in a dangerous situation
No read it again
I addressed this problem
So if you’ve fought the boss and lost and now want to spawn him again as the boss despawned, you would just have to interact with it. Only the first time you spawn a boss it consumes the summoning items.
Another reason why bosses shouldn’t despawn that was brought up recently because of a similar suggestion is that the player would have to do all the damage again if they die towards the end of the fight, and some of the later bosses can be very tanky so a player would lose a lot of time for what could potentially be a small mistake with how punishing the later bosses can be
In other games where this system does work well, the bosses usually don’t take anywhere near as long to kill
I mean me as someone who plays soulslike games wouldn’t mind that. Games you enjoy you usually want to last as long as they can and that would make rhe fights much more rewarding
Which games do you have in mind?
Terraria, soulslikes and probably some others I can’t think of right now
Yeah, well my suggestion comes from something that really ruined my experience and in my opinion can be handled better.
In those games the fights are short, so when the bosses are reset the player doesn’t lose as much progress
Elden ring fights take way longer as valheim fights tho
Not with valheim’s later bosses
And are much harder, in valheim the bosses have like three moves total
The later bosses take much longer to kill and have larger movesets with harder-to-dodge attacks.
That sounds really nice
If my idea was implemented this would make it even nicer in my opinion
Your counterarguments are not very significant yk
I think more bosses could have a proper arena like the current final 3, but valheim’s bosses just have too much health to be reset
Hmm, but bosses should be designed so that they can be killed upon first time summoning
Not for everyone
I really don’t see the problem in a health reset
Why?
They can be killed upon first summoning. I didnt die to a boss until my second playthrough
Because not everyone has the same opinion...
It's pretty self-explanatory
Losing your entire progress from dying would be a lot more infuriating
Your items Being gatekeeped by a boss in the swamp very hard to reach because of draugrs and what is I think a lot more infuriating
As is said it ruined the experience for me
So why is the health reset that big of a problem
You can eat stamina food and roll and jump to reach your items safely
Through the swamp??
Yes
They can be lured away.
You have control over that. But dying and then also losing any progress you did to the boss no
Yeah I mean I tried it back then multiple times
Might be me who plays soulslike games and is used to this
Did you have a portal nearby?
I think no
And it was very far away like I had to sail
But still going back and then the boss is still there doesn’t feel good too in my opinion
I want to summon him and kill him and not go back desperately and having to get my items
Might be preference at this point but as I said, ruined it for me
And still I don’t see any major counterarguments
The one you mentioned in the beginning I addressed because that was something I thought of too. Softlocking would be a major problem
I don’t see any major arguments from you either. Just ‘I play other games where bosses reset so valheim should do it too’
Not hard to recover stuff in swamp. Just wait until you die in the ashlands or Queen fight
In any case it's what backup gear and meads are for
Yeah idk the bosses staying there wandering around like an npc and gatekeeping your items
Yeah true that
Even the arena thing I mentioned? Idk it sounds better to me than having to fight of swamp creatures simultaneously
Bonemass's attacks are super slow and telegraphed. I'd imagine the poison is killing you? Or the other draugrs? Just shoot them with a spare bow and bring a poison mead
The first time you fight against a boss you usually don’t know what to expect so misstiming a dodge could and will happen to anyone
The queen (sixth boss) spawns in a dungeon so she has her own arena, but she can summon enemies.
I think random creatures adding to the fight makes them unpredictable and interesting, even if it's a little frustrating. Actually makes moder much much harder with a couple wolves or drakes jumping in at the wrong time.
And even the poison you couldn’t have known upon summoning to prepare potions
You should have poison mead with you anyway because you’re in a swamp
Yes it's normal you get rekt you learn poison mead helps you come back and smack him
Good point
But if I smack him by trying again like by summoning him again would make it feel better
And having good back up items is also very exhausting
I mean with the iron armor being as expensive as it is
And I imagine the latter armor has the same problem
You can use your old equipment as backup
But then one bonemass hit would obliterate you
You shouldn’t be getting in melee range of him. If he’s guarding your stuff you should be luring him away.
I think this is what happens to me back then
Yeah see I don’t like this kind of gameplay at all, it feels wrong
Just let him despawn and let me try as soon as I feel ready
Shouldn’t be hard to implement
Maybe I accidentally spawned the boss with way too low lvl equipment and now I can’t explore the area anymore because of the overleveled boss that won’t disappear
I think I’m going for a support ticket with this idea of mine
This 100%
Troll armor is more than enough for body recoveries in the first 5 biomes. That plus a bit of food can sustain several hits esp when corpse run kicks in
You could go to a different swamp
Sounds like a personal problem to me. That's the kind of gameplay valheim (and plenty of other games) was designed around, it's not going to change.
I did point out that it my arguments might be preference based
But it’s fine. Good talk guys
Preference does not mean anything here. If you don't prefer valheim's intended gameplay and design (or any other game like that), then you simply don't play those types of games or learn how to adapt.
Valheim is not a genre tho. If something would improve the general player experience than chances are high that it will be implemented
Its gameplay is part of a genre that clearly isn't your speed.
Which genre?
It’s just a survival game with its own methodology. They can and will do whatever they want because no invisible restrictions or laws are holding them
Or rather principles
They already do what they want, and what they want is for bosses to remain after you die (otherwise it wouldn't have been designed that way in the first place). Either adapt to the situation or stop playing if you can't handle the gameplay the developers chose for their game to have. It's meant to be a brutal survival experience (not just light/casual survival experience like you seem to have mistaken it as), and having bosses despawn so you can more easily get your stuff back does not fit with that at all.
I mean no one knows why bosses don’t despawn, it might also be sloppy design
What I’m trying to say is that there are no rules or even other games valheim has to abide to which is true
So you guys know for a fact why bosses don’t despawn or what’s up with the facepalms
Yes, the developers can make whatever decision they want, they don’t need to base it off anything else. This is the choice they made
Exactly and if my idea would be persuasive enough there would be no reason for the devs to not implement my idea, or am I wrong?
