also, the spawn island being that tiny honestly makes it pretty good. can spawnproof the entire island if you want to and make a massive base there with no worries at all

You can put down a workbench and whatever else you want, claim it for yourself, and no untamed mobs will ever spawn in that area again

However, mobs outside the area can wander in, so you probably will have to improve the defenses quite a bit. And deathsquitos can fly right over walls if you make noise and get their attention

@silk jay the map I'm considering trying this is on passive mobs. It's my building field for stress relief. ~.~ but yeah I know about wanderers. I didn't used to have mobs on passive, but I have a troll that loves wandering through my main base.

I figured it was better to be on good terms with him rather than XD trying to figure out how to take him on atm. He'll one shot me, which isn't very fun.

not quite automatic, but it does allow you to let you bypass restrictions on how many animals you can breed at once

Help what do I do, if my chicken is freaked out? I closed up all the holes in my coop, made sure the roof was sealed, put a fireplace out back, threw seeds out for it, and it is freaking out. Chicks have a strong tendency to clip through walls when they hatch, and again when they turn fully grown. I always make sure to either place them well away from the next wall, or stick like triple walls together until they are grown.
Mind you, I have the impression they occasionally might even clip through the ground, as I had eggs vanish too, but can't prove that.

Most likely clipped through a wall, look around the area, it might be running around nearby.
Unless some enemy got to it.
Worst case it just vanished - these days I put my very first two eggs on a little table structure with walls around, to ensure they can't straight away clip through the ground.

Yes once they are grown and you want them to lay eggs. They don't eat anything before being grown anyhow, and won't starve if you don't feed them.

Depending on how you have it set up and how often you're at base, leaving them a whole stack to eat might be a waste - they'll basically eat everything and still only produce the same number of eggs as if you only fed them enough to produce that many eggs - but if you have one of those 'factory' set ups then ignore that.

@nimble swallow I just wasn't sure how much to leave them is all. These are my first chickens, and thanks to someone marineresolution's help I managed to keep my world. I really wasn't sure what to do about Elder. I think I've had a bug, previously. My bosses would always despawn, if I died. That's not normal, I've been told. I wasn't expecting Elder to still be there, when I logged back in. Since I got help though, ^.^ my chickens are safe.

So are my deer. ❤️ the troll that was at my base area is also gone now 😼 No more worrying about him trying to destroy everything, if I'm not on passive.

@lunar badger o.o I was just comparing the building capabilities from both, but yeah... There's a good story in Fallout 4. The Colonies or Camps was also a part of the game, but not required. I kind of enjoyed building up working colonies. Made working on factions easier. Your answer about action was what I was wondering. Have you thought about maybe doing co-op to beat bosses in the harder difficulties? That might give you a little more action.

Well dude - to build you will need some stones. Best way to get it ( except of farming pit ) go to the mountain - there you will find a lot of action while you will DIGG that thing's. And if you build something rly big, at least from 30k stones - it will take a while. So you will have bunch of action there.

We only have 45° roofs in game, and that picture looks like a 🧐55-60°....so an exact replica wouldn't be possible without some heavy modding. That extreme of a pitch is usually for snow load(weight restrictions) reasons.

They are slow, you can out walk them.
They also have very slow attacks and telephone them a long time in advance so you can either step away then or dodge roll em easily, maybe even stagger depending on shield and if that is at all possible in hard difficulty.

This is how my session in Ashlands end after 70 hours, before it even started! Im sail to the coast and set a portal on hill, but same moment mobs from all location run for me - almost same as "Hunt". I died for 3 times and mobs destroy portal on a Hill - WTF? I build 3 more ships and died more 3 times. I cant set a portal and get my runestone. Well done, Irongate.

Yeah I started to test and plan to see how it will come. I enjoy the experimenting.
So far I just made the base thinking of how the second floor will fit in size and how the interior is going to be.
I want to make it like a base or tavern more than churche.
You can see the stairway at the center who will lead to all the floors. I think i need to make it much wider to be livable in valheim.

I'll take some more screenies of the other living spaces in the homestead. Production and the Farm will be elsewhere with portals to and from them. I had said I would show my new cottage though. This is the exterior.

You might have to open in browser to get a good view of the shots I took though. The rear of the cottage is just a repair shack. The interior has a bed that is surrounded by banners for privacy, there's a bath in the rear room, and the room to the left side of the bedroom is the armory.

There's a door to the fireplace urn just to make refilling easier. The only other notable things about my cottage exterior is the covered lamp near the main Home Portal, the stone floor walkway down to the homestead path, and a little gazebo in the rear of the fenced in yard. There's a nice oak tree in front of the fence line, but you know... Lizards keep invading the area as it rains. There's not a river all that nearby though.

Hello again, I thought I would go ahead and post the other screenies of my homestead. I don't know that I included pics of the other two path lanterns leading up to my house, but they are similar to the one near my Home Portal. Just not as nice.

You may have to open in browser to see them well enough. The picture above is of the kitchen, eating area, and my cart parking. The portal in the Kitchen is to directly drop off firewood or ingredients that can be processed right away. I wanted to show a closer pic of the outside of the dining hall, since it shows the doorway and decorative privacy curtains better. Only placed them on the side of the roadway.

This collection of screenies is of the map gazebo and my primary vault. Most of the chests are labeled already, but I know the unlabeled ones will need to be labeled soon. I'll make a secondary vault around my Production Facilities for overflow. The portals at the end are for direct deposit, access to mining sites, and to logging areas.

I haven't figured out how to make my stone buildings look nicer, but I think these kinda turned out ok. If they give anyone any inspiration, it was worth it to take the screenshots ❤️ I love building and spit balling ideas with you guys.

Entirely built by me and my friends on our sever. after we gave up on it i got a copy from the host so i could go in and take this ariel screen shot of our main base/ town. you cant see it in the image but there are around 48-1 star wolves and at least 10-2 star wolves roaming the place. Nope. Valheim is not about building. It has been marketed as a Viking flavored HARD survival game.
And they keep making true on that promise of it being hard. The high north is freezing temps and going to be just as hard as the Ashlands, if not harder.

I think valheim is a soft "Hard" tbh, but its a survival game different from other, so you can't compare to a rogue-like or souls-like for example. I enjoyed my time playing it and that's what should matter.

Building tends to become the main motivation mid-late game in any survival game without permadeath. (Or even if permadeath exists, but the game is too easy) I wouldn't really classify Valheim as a survival game anyway, seeing as you can just wall yourself in and survive infinitely. It's a survival game to the same degree Minecraft is.

Of course, the main objective we are given is to defeat the bosses, but I am unwilling to say Valheim is about the combat either. (Mostly because I don't particularly like it)

What I do insist on is that Valheim is about conquering the environment. I tend to use the mountains as an example. Just being there starts out dangerous, not even taking enemies into account. Then you get a frost resistant cape, then better armor, then a way to cancel fall damage. Even as you're getting Mistlands gear, you're still conquering the mountains.

Mistlands partly, just because the mist is so annoying, but the Ashlands even more so, are biomes that currently cannot be completely conquered, making them unsatisfying. Not being able to build in Ashlands is a huge part of that.

Valheim is not about building, but building can certainly be seen as its market edge over a lot of other alternatives.

Yes you are. The dungeons are sort of black boxes extremely high in the sky. All dungeons TP you that far up. That's why you see yourself walking over the regular minimap for instance

I mean, you cannot technically finish the game (as it is now) without building a single piece xD. I was pondering about it the other day and one cannot craft the seal to open the queen's citadel (if can be glitched through, disconsider). And yet, even if not building, you would just be strolling around "naked" and defeating bosses. I rather play a game related to that but linear-ish like GoW, Lies of P, etc. So I think building is critical for the game, also for being survival-ish. (I'm not flaming you, just to make it clear)
