Yea the only use of lox riding imo is just for haulnig really heavy things across land
I get slight drift from my base sometimes when im trying to bring ore in and out too
No, and that matters little if you can have an army of them
Still, normal and one star wolves die in a coiuple of hits from pretty basic mobs
You sure you're not the one playing modded?
They would definitely not die easily in "a couple of hits" from normal mobs.
If you mean fulings and seekers, it's obvious, they're one and two biomes above respectively
squishy yes, but they're glass cannons they do tons of damage. Plenty of people using armies of 2 star wolves to cheese the game. Even was someone who beat the whole game (at least up to Yag) without attacking anything because he just tamed wolves to do it for him
They aren't super practical in everyday combat because they do die, but tbh I already think they're too good. You're supposed to play the game and fight enemies, not watch some wolves do it for you. I believe devs mentioned too that they want you to play the game and prove yourself to Odin, not be a leader of legions of wolves, lox, dvergr, mercenaries and whatever else people have suggested for you to command or employ to do your bidding
Im absolutely positive I am not. also in a short glance of reading others opinions on this, other people agree theyre squishey too.
They definitely do xD
Yeah wolves really are low hp. Unless you're running around meadows and blackforest they're gonna die pretty quick.
Unless you're playing easy difficulty with 2 star wolves in which case they can prob tank quite a bit
I'm not saying they aren't, and saying it doesn't matter when you could just have an army of them.
An enemy kills one wolf, 2-3 more lunge at the enemy and obliterate it
Wolves as individuals arent the strongest, but breeding a large pack is super easy, then just have them follow you, and they can wreck most things
Yeah I get bringing a big pack, they still die and could feel better and more impactful without adopting cheese tactics. Essentially I would prefer the ability to have two bad ass wolves more than 20 glass cannons personally.
Lox are absolutely pointless imo and I foundthe saddle very underwhelming
Lox are good for base defense
Saddle is good for moving your 8000 pounds of metals from your ship at the coast up to your house that's a bit more inland
imo tho taming is by no means a necessary part of the game. Tamed animals just give little advantages and can potentially be used to cheese
Yeah fair enough, I havent tried using a Lox to drag things, so could be missing something good there
I like the taming a lot, imo its just a shame that Wolves etc cant be utilised a bit better
I get the concern, and I'll say their quick deaths is part of the reason I don't like them so much. Just not the direction devs decided to go in
one of the best parts of valheim is about how people have different approaches and make different choices in certain aspects.
Giving people the choice of 20 glass cannons or 2-3 wolves youve kept alive and have made stronger would be positive imo
Yeah fair do's
Don’t get too attached to your wolves, but I agree- they are indeed good boys 🐺
Struggle with dog deaths you see, should have seen me after watching I Am Legend/Marley and Me!
I know my suggestion is recycled, but it's new to the post-hack server, so I figured I'd put it back in 😉
It’s a good one!
#suggestions message @stark flame could you or someone else explain what you mean by pumping? Just want to make sure I understand 🙂
Being able to upgrade the armor sets most likely
As if those weren't op enough already
That’s what I imagined, I see what they’re suggesting now, thanks!
To be fair light armors after black forest seem kinda underwhelming initially because their armor values are so low. But once you upgrade them well and realize the immense power of the benefits they provide they're pretty good
hell no :/
Please consider adding an optional setting to blacklist cheathammer and cheatsword from a world/server. Those two items bring nothing but harm and griefers to peoples worlds.
Server-locked characters won't be a thing, it has been discarded already.
If the host doesn't want griefers in their games then the host should be more responsible on the people they bring
Valheim is explicitly stated to be intended to play with trusted players, not scary strangers of the internet.
I dont want server locked characters, just the ability to blacklist cheathammer and cheatsword. To be honest i would be happy if those two were fully removed from the game.
Theyre made for testing, like all of devcommands
That. And point still stands: The host is the only responsible for the people they allow entry into their servers
Perhaps, but why make excessive griefing possible even in first place? Even people u trust could end up using them if they see the opportunity for little laughs.
Well, it’s one of those things where there would be a lot of resources going into a feature that isn’t necessarily apart of the core game, right? IMO, friends who grief like that for a joke are not great to play with 😅 and even then, if they’re your friends just playing a joke, what’s the harm?
It’s not a competitive game and there are no rankings, it’s purely a ‘casual and fun’ experience to play with others.
Well cheat hammer and sword arent really part of the game as u cant craft them. Only spawn them in with commands.
Don’t get me wrong, I see where you’re coming from and I understand the issue- but I don’t think Valheim is the type of game to really put a huge limit on players.
So theoretically, what would stop a player from bringing end-game gear?
You wont enjoy it if u spend 6+ hours decorating ur base and ur "friend" trolls you by destroying ur work in april fools day. Not many ppl can let that slide.
That’s a horrible prank, a good safeguard could be utilizing backup saves?
End game gear isnt really that much of an issue because none of those weapons can wipe out entire bases in 1-4 hits. If someone brings endgame gear u can just ask them to put it away.
A better prank would be to hide a boar under someone’s house so they constantly hear pig noises lol.
Hmm they could still destroy your base fairly easily for a ‘prank’, just using a regular hammer, yeah?
That would require much more work since it would mean they would have to remove possibly tens or hundreds of pieces to make a base collapse.
The cheat hammer and sword can only be spawned via a console command? Can it be saved in your inventory and thus ported to different worlds?
I’ll admit, I don’t have any experience using the dev tools. But still, the trolling/grieving is always possible, and imo pretty easy to pull off. The best safeguard is to have trustworthy players or backups.
Also im not neccessarily complaining about this because i would have a problem with it. I use infinity hammer in my servee to make every players builds infinite health once they are complete. Its just that in the past ive seen so many servers being targeted, griefed and trolled and many people have quitted valheim because of that.
Yeah, u can keep it in ur inventory and take with u to any world.
I could see having more ‘cheating’ safeguards in place for a PvP game, but Valheim is more geared towards co op, right?
Yeah, I can see how that is a problem...maybe make them ephemeral so that they only last till you logout and are deleted from any save files?
Its like any other items, just with higher damage
Like 1000x damage compared to normal items and cheathammer has an areal damage meaning it wipes out everything on a large radius
If people think its funny to destroy your base, the cheat weapons arent the problem. Theyre gonna do it regardless
I had suggested this before, but creating an option to "isolate" a world, that would not allow any items to be brought in or out of a world would be a great option as a world modifier. I understand if this is not a high priority or even necessary in a lot of people's minds. Would something like this even be possible? I was considering taking it to the modding community.
I can see where you’re coming from honestly, but I don’t think many players would want Irongate to focus time and resources on a game mode that isn’t really catered to in-game.
Right, I think these advanced options would be great for mods!
They do it because there are so good tools available to do it. Who has time to destroy a 20k piece castle by dismantling it piece by piece? Not too many will take that time. But with cheat hammer u can destroy even a giant build with 10-20 hits in 2 minutes.
Hmm I’d think they do it because they’re punks, not because it’s easy 😅
What is the purpose of the cheat hammers in the debug world? To test out how things are destroyed in large numbers efficiently?
I’m not a dev, but I’m sure there are numerous reasons.
Probably to onehit kill anything?
Seems like you could make a devcommand do this directly...why make it into an item? Or even better...add a debug mode that allows the use of the hammer, and if that mode is disabled, the hammer does no damage.
Ive seen plenty of people do stuff. And if the cheat weapons werent available they could install several different mods and they'd have the same effect. The problem is the player
There are mods to counter mods. But consoles cant have mods. Modders can be kept away by only allowing console players to join. Mostly the main problem on xbox is really just the cheatsword and cheathammer. Other modded gear isnt very widespread in it.
the hammer is actually very useful in building, you can use it to remove trees and rocks that would take hours to clear manually
Yeah, reload a backup, ban player's IP/ID...it's a good solution after the fact.
Unfortunately there are suprisingly many players who dont even realize that backups of the worlds exsist.
Edumacate them!
Or disable the cheat items...I agree.
I do, but some that have been targeted by griefing just lost all feel to play the game after first incident
Even tough it all can be fixed
Do you think if they knew they could reload a backup and only lose the last 30 minutes or so of gameplay they would not lose all feels to play the game?
Probably
Depends on the person. Little kids definitely yes
Unfortunately there are suprisingly many short tempered adults too that will just say "f this im done" even if all could be relatively easily fixed if u know how to.
XQC
First server i was in was getting really good, owner was kinda careless tho. it got griefed after 3 months and after ppl saw their houses in ruins they just straight up quit. Population of the server went quickly from 10 to 4. It happened despite of the fact that we were able to salvage most of the progress
So many C's in games who love ruining fun for others. It's a strange phenomenon
Sounds like the griefers won that round, Niskov 😦
So far ive seen it happen in 3 servers. Main cause in each incident in my opinion was carelessness of the owners. Many ppl arent even aware of the cheat items if they have only played in a small group together.
meh, my group has lost worlds more times than i can count, none of those times were griefers
Carelessness of owner/s?
nope, problems with the dedi owners
What happen?
seems like it's almost impossible to recover a backup on a dedi
Lost the world i played on for like 150 hours cause the server owner just took it down and left the discord, even though i pinged him and asked for the files 2 times weeks before
Yup, depends a lot of the host and their knowledge.
That sucks Larsi.
similar too
With the dedicated servers, you need someone who will actively admin the servers...so when the incident occurs it is dealt with immediately. The longer you wait to reload from the backup, the more people get upset because everything they do after the incident will be reset. So you need admins that will respond quickly.
expecting ppl to do their jobs?
Best to just gain the needed knowledge and admin yourself. My server is xbox only but i got crossplay compatible mods and server devcommands available, so i admin it from my pc same time as i play on it from my console.
there is a devcommand
yeah, I suspected as much, which is even more of a reason to remove the cheat items entirely, in my opinion. I can understand this being a low priority "right now"...but I think it should garner consideration as they get closer to the 1.0 release.
lmao "closer"
Probs 2+ years until 1.0 release xD
sure but not everyone is in a position to do that/wants to
Very true
You really have two options: 1. Take on the responsibility yourself or 2. Find someone you trust to do it for you.
Honestly, I find this is true of almost everything in life.
or the hidden 3rd option
only play with friends. idk, valhiem seems a little too linier to play on a server
a dedi is far more convenient in terms of getting on and off when you like/have time
As opposed to?
that's true actually, i only have like, 3 friends
idk, ark, minecraft, what other hosters have i used before
Aren't they all server based? The only thing that changes is what computer actually runs the server side program?
well i mean a dedicated server
Yeah, I thought the only difference between the dedicated server and having your friends join your play session is that the dedicated server runs independently, and doesn't get shut down when you close your client. But when they join your play session, technically your client is acting as the server? Do I have this wrong?
nope
Sorry, just to clarify is that "Nope, your client isn't acting as a server?" or "Nope, you don't have this wrong." 🤣
nope, you don't have it wrong 🙂
#suggestions message ooh I actually like this more than a lead, good idea!
Indeed, good idea.
What? We were talking about it like a day ago and I was suggesting exactly the same thing. Y'all said it's ok as it is now. And you were among them 😕
Hmm? I don’t recall 😅 I’ve always been team lead haha
Haha I guess I did contradict myself! Maybe you subconsciously persuaded me towards the crook lol
I’d be fine with either option really, but fair point, nice catch!
@wraith radish both of those wont happen
any reference why? probably there is a discussion about this already.
NPCs that protect you: #suggestion-discussion message
World locked characters: #suggestion-discussion message
There ^
Thanks. Makes sense. NPC's can be easily exploited.
Plus you can already have tames protect you
looks like a mix of who wants it or not. Probably possible to add option to enable or disable it? sounds like a tedious work I guess.
Mainly the desihn of the game is to ply with who you trust, and also own your character
Well if that's how the game is designed, then we will just have to deal with it. But I'm still open for possibilities. Thanks for the time 😁
Of vourse. Btw, in the future, please make separate posts for individual suggestions. Voting doesnt work if not
got it 😉
The typos making it a bit hard to follow the convo 😅
But yeah, think of the intended multiplayer being for small groups of friends who want to hang out together. People you ideally already enjoy playing with.
The larger servers with many random new people is just a product of the community, rather than a supported and intended way to play.
So engage at your own risk.
It can still be a lot of fun though, just don't expect the devs to put in the effort to support it. It's not their intentions to do so.
This is low number typos for me
the "You are being Hunted" raid on hard mode is insane. There is no way to survive it, unless you are at the top of a stone tower. The wolves won't even leave after the raid is over. I'm beyond frustrated with it.
Yea on my very hard hardcore/permadeath play throughs I’ve been skipping bone mass, mostly to skip wolves
They just don't quit and stand around and guard the spot you died. It's like you have to make a whole extra set of gear effective enough to kill them, in the environment they exist in. So incredibly frustrating.
Best bet is prob to pop eikthyr and run like hell out of there
I can't imagine playing on a a harder mode than hard by myself.
Or I guess do some cheese with an atgeir or plopping down a portal
Yea I like to torture myself with difficulty and then putting extra challenges on top 😅
I mean, digging a hole is always a legit strat, but you don't have time when the raid spawns on you in the mountains.
Just gotta prepare for the raid before it happens. Valheim is about prep!
That's why "You are being Hunted" is so frustrating. It can happen anywhere. Not just at your base. Side of the mountain.
Pocket portal maybe?
yup. Better pack that portal or set up an outpost that's defensible
Only that I've seen be really quick and effective is throw down a craft table and put up a double set of steep stairs. wolves won't hit it for some reason.
My Strat is to find a large rock and pray
Wolves are like little speedsters when they get a 20% speed buff. I luv it
@naive sundial that ain't really a suggestion your just saying u want something
While an extra perk to actually have that nice little oomph at level 100 sounds good in theory... It would incentivize something most people will never do and give even more reason to suffer through the slog of trying to reach 100. Devs are pretty dismissive about the skill system too...
Honestly just wish they would give skills a bit of a facelift so it achieved it's intended effect better 🙃 but it's been a long standing discussion for a reason.
Why there is so much people who use 🌸 in their nickname?
You only use 🌸 in your name.
Do you know who likes to change names in this place, if you do don't look further.
Also wishing for spring to arrive.
I would rate current skill system 40ish/100 as well. Just enough to move from Mistlands to Ashlands but wo any intention from the devs to reach max level 😏
🤣
I know how I would change it, and discussed skills too many times already. Sooo, will just leave it there for now.
Liked the out of 100 rating though 🤭
A milestone skill level would be nice, you get to a certain point and your skills will never go below that point.
Like every 10 or 20 levels.
@earnest sentinel You can already sell certain things to the trader.
Fair enough, skills have been discussed a lot. If one doesn't know what to discuss, he can always discuss skill system
It's just one of the few glaringly flawed and neglected features really. 🤭
What does the recycling symbol in suggestion mean? That the idea was already there or what?
Yes, but why only pearls and rubins not more or all material in the game? That was my proposal. E.g. sell old weapons
Gold has little use in the first place so it's pointless to get so much so quickly
And getting rid of your old gear is a silly idea anyway
Has already been suggested.
Rail carts would actually be really cool, but I think it would be better for a mod instead of vanilla. There’s a guy called Smitty who did an amazing mountain mine build.
@spiral fog you can perfectly see for yourself that the ashlands armor sets are already set in stone. Suggestions for that kind of change to ashlands content won't certainly change their minds when it's so close to release
oh. thanks for telling me
#suggestions message Fighing on slopes is pretty annoying but you don’t do it very often
Almost all of the time you can get onto flat ground and fight the enemies there
Also other enemies have an even harder time with slopes then the player does so it’s not like you will be dying because of this.
I usually think that devs completely exclude repeated suggestions from whatever list of potential ideas they have from the channel as I'm very sure that reading the exact same idea 10 times per day gets tiring very, very quickly...
Sloped combat issue must be in the top 5 most ignored suggestions for that reason
Btw it's also very hard to fix and that's why they haven't up to this day
Plus it is much easier to be fixed by the player himself just by placing the char in a better position
As much as I approve of the saying "anything popular is wrong, "This seems popular so we'll definitely scrap it" seems like an exceedingly odd stance to have (not that I think it's the case). :p
Why reading the same suggestions over and over again? If they said "no" and/or "not possible" the first times it was suggested I'm sure it won't be much different later...
Why then writing 'it's not possible' over and over again if obviously that doesn't prevent people from suggesting it again and again?
Because i tell them to different people. Clearly a new user wouldn't know.
Right, but that's why they keep suggesting it. Ok, you do you
@quartz trench Granted, it has been a few months since I played but at that time it was possible in multiplayer to enable friendly fire and have one player harpoon the one pulling the cart and assist that way. It's not perfect, but IMO it's a lot better than getting stuck all the time or making 18 trips.
I almost exclusively use carts for decoration lol. Sometimes if I have a large base or base bluster, I’ll use it to ferry goods around, but that’s pretty rare.
#suggestions message why?
Carts are for pushing off the tops of mountains when full of silver, and picking up at the bottom to load into a boat.
I’ve cracked the code on how to make the best suggestions
Just suggest ambient stuff, like sound effects or the northern lights, nobody has beef with those
@tranquil jay FYI this has been on the dev's list of "stuff that they do not plan to add" for a long time
I kind of stopped making suggestions when I realized every improvement I could think of has already been suggested several times before and is most likely "stuff that they do not plan to add". I feel the game is fun, but the suggestions channel is this constant stream of disappointing "nope, not gonna happen, nope, not gonna happen".
Well the idea is that your ideas are just that, ideas. The dev team sees something they like, and it’s up to them to make it yknow, good
well most suggestions made are either too specific or too simple without any thought put in to how it would affect the game
the simple ones tend to be the better ones, though the tend boil down to being "add a cool weapon" or "bears"
@hard fern I’m curious too. Why?
Because it feels like a downgrade from Froatner. Frostner is so dominant it the meta that they mine as well not have a mace in the plains and move porcupine the mistlands. At least that way, it will have a sizeable raw damage advantage over froatner
In that case it seems like it would be better to nerf Frostner, no?
I'll be honest though I used to think Frostner was really OP but I've been experimenting more lately and it doesn't seem THAT good to me. I'm doing a lot more work to fulings rn with a fang spear than the frostner
I would probably make frostner 40 silver and the sword 30 silver. Swapping the crafting costs would make the most sense to me. Because one is clearly the GOAT right now
Would you say the blackmetal knife is better than frostner?
Black metal knife dps is great, but the crowd control on frostner is hard to ignore. And seekers have blunt/slash/pierce resistance so the frost damage is arguably top dps in the mistlands in addition to CC
mhm frost damage do be good in mistlands. I'll admit frostner does shine pretty well in mistlands, but not as much in Plains
The fang spear is pretty solid, mainly because it’s too silver so why not have it? A good throw with the fang spear pretty much deletes an enemy. I like to have all damage types in my golf bag of weapons though
Don’t be discouraged, there’s actually quite a bit of suggestions that have made it in. Also, I imagine it’s unlikely a dev will say “yeah, that’s great! We’re gonna do that!” Because they don’t want to make a promise they can’t keep. For example, I’m sure they like the idea of ponds and lakes and amazing waterfalls, but it just isn’t something that’s possible due to the engine.
you can make lakes easily.
More Obsidian stuff like building blocks and weapons.
I meant more like lakes at higher elevations, and often requested feature.
It's worthless in mountain, pretty ignorable in plains and very useful in mistlands.
Tbh, it's at a decent place. Not op, not too weak
Or well, not pretty ignorable but more like a nice-to-have
Eh it's usable in mountains
Does good against wolves and great in frost caves too
Just can't use it against Golems or Moder
It's so good against wolves
I prefer ranged options for wolves. Nothing as satisfying as making an instant wolf skewer by throwing my spear at one
#suggestions message i think this would be great but we have a lot more neutrla foods than 2
That's true. We have 3. Wolf jerky, boar jerky and red mushrooms.
Oh right... 4. Magecaps as well.
Wolf jerky, boar jerky, red mushroom, royal jelly, mage cap, jotun puff
Still, they're all largely useless. Boar and wolf jerky are only really useful for efficient ingredient usage, not really anything else. All balanced foods give a lot fewer total stats than other foods.
yeah, its misleading to call magecaps, jotun puffs or royal jelly balanced food. They have less in each stat than mistlands food have in their secondary stat
maybe an overall buff to the 'neutral' food is called for--I think they make good "doing chores food"
eh, stamina food is best for that, as well as mistlands cape so you dont die from fall damage
I think a high tier silver food would be cool.
Especially if it had more than one step to make. Like, needing to be fermented and then cooked in an oven sort of thing.
@rianumeeves I knew there is more than 2. The point is we still can make only 2. I personally like to use them in early game and while doing something around the base
I’d say neutral food is already good for chores tho. Cheap and gives you some balance with stamina for chores and health to not die from a. Stray mob or a small drop
If wolf jerky gives +33, then Lox jerky would be +44, Seeker jerky +55, for me it would be decent choice if u want some balance of good stats
And I have full blackmetal chest of that Seeker meat, I can't give them to wolves because they don't eat it, that's why I made another suggestion
yeah, i was thinking about how right now just dragging someone around is a better option than actually using carts for their intended purpose. i feel like that’s a sign that smth needs to change about carts.
They also don't eat Lox meat. I make lots of coal from lox and seeker meat 😛
are you sure? it's listed on the wiki
They didn't last time I tried it, but maybe it's been updated. I didn't think they ate anything above their biome last time I looked.
Thank you for the information. Where can I find this list?
List is being reworked because it got lost in the purge, should be reposted soon
I feel eitr food moving on should be the “neutral” choice
you're not wrong but if you're in bases at later biomes, as the enemies get stronger, a neutral food won't be as good unless it keeps getting stronger to keep up
what you mean?
Like it gives balanced food and stam to make up for the fact that you need to eat for eitr
well yea but it gives like - not much of hp or stam bc it's mainly used for Eitr
yeah there could be both some balanced foods that only provided equal stam and hp, and some that provide all 3, ideally I think it'd be great to continue having options that are balanced in future in one or both senses (and/or the lox & seeker jerky idea--seeker jerky specifically could give eitr as well, be thematically fitting) so we could customize as much as possible
Reading up, I only use white fork food if I need something quick and easy to go do something in a lower biome that doesn't need a lot. If you have beehives, onions and a wolf farm you can just 3d print wolf jerky, wolf meat and onion soup for some decent enough stats to do fairly well in most pre-mistland content without squandering resources.
But they are horribly under-performing as foods for the tiers they appear in.
If you have a breeder structure built for them, depending on where and how thrown food lands they might just not be in reach of it. Lox meats a pretty chonky entity iirc
#suggestions message to take it a step further, metal bar stacks would be cool. Like a bunch of iron ingots all neatly stacked. Kinda like how terraria lets you place down metal ingots.
@fleet harness please read up the rules of each channel
#suggestions message @fleet harness the suggestions channel is just for ideas and such.
#suggestions message would probably be best to separate these into individual suggestions 🙂
@sly holly
It is better to do so, if I for example like suggestion A but hate suggestion B how am I to react to the post with both of those suggestions in?
You can post suggestion back to back though, taking the slowmode into account.
You can, you just have to wait out the slowmode timer. It is like 10 minutes or so in that channel.
thanks
#suggestions message generally, they try to avoid adding more generic animals 🙂
I fully agree with everything you just said.
What do you guys think about idea to add Níðhöggr/Nidhogg when we get to the Yggdrasil? Or in the other instances? Is it alright to suggest?
That it has no place in valheim bc it doesn't have any business to do in valheim
Especially considering we will probably never get to yggdrassil.
So idk what that "when" is doing there
Well, I just hope we will someday :D
The World Serpent Or Ratatoskr maybe?
Exact same thing I mentioned above
@sage crest there already is
Oh really?
What is it?
there is a #suggestion-discussion channel
what does the ♻️ mean anyways
Just that the idea has been suggested before
OHHH
Its explained in the same pin that explains 💡
Damn almost everything tonight is heavily ♻️
I’m happy that the tattered red cape suggestion got so much love, thanks guys! 😁
Just out of curiosity, how often do y'all (the devs) look through the suggestions, come across something you like and actually consider adding it to the game?
I look daily
we are glad someone is listening to us.
Can confirm, I hang around suggestions and discussions mostly, and Smiffe is constantly giving feedback and communicating with the community.
@tranquil lintel just curious, why do you feel that the Deep North doesn’t potentially feel like a final biome?
Good question, maybe it’s me, but I have trouble visualizing the deep north once it’s finalized other than it being a beefed up version of the mountain biome
Gotcha, I see where you’re coming from. I feel like there’s a lot of opportunity with it. I kinda imagine it being incredibly imposing and daunting, I hope it captures that ‘last level’ feel. It’s hard to know for sure, because obviously it’s barren for now, but I imagine there could be some incredible points of interest, and I feel like every enemy could be very unique.
Can we please get grid planting? Planting 500 crops 1 x 1 w/o a mod is death to one's hand.
I'm completely sure they will think of a very drastic change unrelated to current mountains for DN
I hope the deep north feels like a last level type biome but felt that the boss drop should be something unique,
There's an easy solution: Don't plant 500 crops and plant like 100-150 instead as you won't ever need so many crops
"But I need to feed other players as-"
Ask them for help
Ashlands spoiler > || I’m curious to see if they’ll continue with some sort of fortress theme in the deep north? I know people feel a certain way about frost giants, but personally I think it would be neat to invade the castles of giants or something. I’m confident they’ll think of something grand 🙂 ||
Doing the same mechanic twice in a row feels repetitive
That’s fair, but it almost feels odd|| to introduce siege equipment, but only for one biome.||
I’m very very excited to try the fortress theme, and it could be cool if expanded on further in the deep north if it proves to be as much fun as we hope it is, just felt that the deep north boss has Gota drop something and all boss drops lead to the next biome, but I might be being too greedy with expecting another biome after that lol
Psst! Put spoiler brackets 😁
@tranquil lintel some people are keeping themselves spoiler free, you can put spoilers around your message with ‘||’ on both sides to hide it.
I'm almost sure we won't need the wisplight for ashlands, so from that logic, it'd be weird to have a new mechanic just to use it in one biome.
They also gave us wishbone to find treasure... Which is mostly limited to mountains.
Having mechanics with very limited uses isn't really rare
We won't have any other biome besides the ones currently in the game
Those items feel a little unique in that they are boss drops. Haha of course, I have no idea if ||siege equipment|| will be locked behind a boss. But yeah, I agree that they’ll probably come up with something a little more clever than that.
I imagine the final boss drops... credits.
End credits?
It'd be great if stone doesn't clip through carpets put on top..
true but doubling them up stops the stone clipping through
thx
@storm flax I suggest you play the game enough before suggesting anything...
You can pet animals there just isnt really an animation. Maybe rewording it to adding a new animation for petting animals would be better
Oh, good to know. I didn't saw it yet
Redacted the message
What is Vårdträd?
I still think that sheep is a good idea
#suggestions message I’m not opposed to it (sheep), but I do really like the idea of an original design, like the Lox. This suggestion is a fun idea imo.
Flying mounts in swedish is my guess;)
Google tells me a Vardtrad is a sacred tree housing a ward spirit similar to wraiths. If my understanding is correct as an amateur googler either the swamp trees already fulfil this norse mythology in game, or the poster wants magic trees that have consequences for chopping down.
The idea of changing wraiths to spawn when you bulk harvest wood is amusing, but probably not dev intent. Sacrificing desserts to the tree's roots to be blessed for a while though... just imagine being dry in the swamp.
@marble stag you really shouldn't assume everyone would understand what you're suggesting if you don't provide any context.
Probably not even devs could understand what you mean even if it's a word from their native language
Ya
Something-tree? Devs have shied away from topiary/gardening things beyond the may-pole so I doubt it'd happen
Right! I was quick to assume that the specific channel was for ‘devs only’ to react to - , meant to hint about a possible cool upgrade/quest.
(Old custom brought up today in Vetenskapsradion Historia P1 - Swedish public radio)
#suggestions message solid idea 👍
strangely...
#suggestions message assuming this means map pins - just clicking on them to open the text editor would be nice.
im working on a game (name in progress) a world that takes place in (real life place being built fyi) Saudi Arabia's line city. but its a communist regime with full access to everything everyone does from crossing the road, to shopping, to political beliefs, to even you being in your room with your spouse. they see everything. the city itself is a 400+ mile long strip of land in the desert with two walls on both sides blocking out a fungal viral zombie. The city its self is completely self efficient with nuclear desalination plants, and aquaponic food production. They have a trolly/train system in the center for quick transportation. with Two large walls blocking off both sides. they have defenses to the keep the viral infections out, and can quarantine entire sides of the city incase of infections. with multiple factions besides the communists, you can side with giving options as to who you can side with. the general world takes place after a fungal infection went rampant killing off most of humanity, 800+ years ago. they ended up nuking most of the world to attempt stopping it, but failed and made things worse. (google Saudi Arabia the line city for visuals)
if i could post pictures id show one of my design ideas for the zombies
@stone citrus with more context whatcha think?
please be harsh to, i need realistic opinions.
I'll read thoroughly after gym
Can't now
your good no worries, id appreciate your ideas when you can :D
I can't say that this is a concept that is easily sold to me at least
It is difficult to make things interesting without characters
From what it sounds like, it feels like a strategy game with expenses and society (reputation and friendship)
For me personally, I don't think I would enjoy such a game
It would have to have a very interesting spin
okay thats fair, im sturggling to decide if the main character is just a random guy, or story centered person.
i have some characters im working out, as there will be many main character people you can interact with like fallout 4. like just imagine fallout 4 but in my world setting. i want voice actors eventually (maybe companions, house building, faction war, and more. its less of a strategy per say and more of a first person shooter with a lot of lore, and things to uncover. and i want cool weapons too, XD lots of explosions yeah know!
@twilit flame Here's a solution: Ban the players
The option you ask for won't happen, griefing can and should only be stopped by the host
What does this have to do with valheim?
@sterile frost
No, I don't want to use it
You're only bothering yourself then...
The solution is literally just there
You don't get it. It's not about getting rid of the grass. You see, when the grass clips through another object, it breaks the immersion and realism. My suggestion is to fix this visual bug once and for all
And I'm telling you that you could just use the hoe to do exactly that...
You are complaining for an issue you can perfectly fix yourself rather than wait for a dev fix that will probably never come (considering that suggestion isn't probably possible).
Like, the solution is literally right there, and you can do it yourself
I really have no idea why refusing to use the hoe to fix the grass clipping, that's pretty much one of its main objectives
You still don't understand, and I don't want to argue anymore. It's just a little thing that's easy to fix for you, but no, sometimes, small things like this count. It's what makes great games. I've played a lot of other games, and I've always noticed these small details and really appreciated them, even if most people, like you, might not
Hello I'm new and I was asking myself : Why don't you choose multiple style concepts of armors of the same material and put it in the game ? Like for shield ? Different style but same effects so the players can be a bit different from one another. I know it's a lot of work but like this you could keep multiple concept art ! ^^ Srry for my english i'm not a native speaker. Thank you for the work you put in the game.
@mighty fiber what would you suggest as the new spawn limit of gulls rather than the current limit of 5?
The limit is good but it doesn't work that well. because if you stay too long in one place (working on your house) more and more seagulls appear. If you let them, the game starts to move badly. (this is a problem i have on my map i play with my friends)
@mighty fiber there already is a limit
Yes, but it does not work
Definitely all for making the ocean more dangerous, especially the further you get from spawn.
I wonder, would changes about the way the ground work ever be considered?
Like the terrain?
Yup
depends what you mean. If referring to how you can't dig tunnels/caves under the ground since it destroys all ground above you too when digging down in a pit, then I'm pretty sure devs have denied that. Would require a complete rework and it's not something I think they want
I guess I meant
exactly 🤣
Thank you for your response!
It's been suggested by a lot of people before but doesn't look like it'll happen 😅 😰
For what it’s worth, if you find a properly shaped solid rock, you can dig into it and below it and make a little cave of sorts! I did this at my silver mine, and it actually turned out pretty cool!
It's a shame, in my opinion the widest the options are for playing with the environment, the coolest!
I saw something similar recently, a well hiding a secret passage towards a more secret base underneath a house, and it was dope.
#screenshots message here’s a troll cave I repurposed for a forge, it turned out pretty will I think. It may not be as straightforward as making a cave, but sometimes a little creativity goes a long way 😁
There's a lot of cool rocks to house under/in in BF, Plains, and Mountains. And Mistlands has some ginormous cliffs to house in
That looks gorgeous!
Very nice indeed. And I agree, creativity comes from coping with little possibilities, but still... I hope someday there will be a way to get around the terrain system, such as an equivalent of the reinforced wood beams but for the ground!
@waxen fog things that exclusively favour MP over solo are an instant "won't happen" from devs
sad
has anyone suggested something like the obliterator but instead gives back your materials? lol
Although, sailing in multiplayer is already easier than single player, ||thanks to sharing the Moder wind buff between players. With 4 players, you can consistently stay with the wind.||
Yup
Yeah, I believe so lol but it also got shut down.
It could be exploited to transport metal.
that's kinda dumb now that you can just turn off that
I mean, it would be useful in a very short period of playing as well as being a way of cheating with the teleportation rules
but for big servers I can see why
Because at some point, the amount of ingredients one collect just becomes... gigantic, for litteraly no use after one's equipment is crafted
Just curious, what would you want to deconstruct? Armor and weapons I imagine?
things I crafted by mistake
Ah, gotcha. Sorry!
For what it’s worth, you could use dev commands to just spawn your materials back? 🙂
nah too late, I figured how dumb it is lol
Yes
@idle belfry imagine that idea with some mob that drops hair and with that hair and wood you craft the brush to paint your buildings, I like it lol
yeah that would be very neat :)
use the fenris hair from the frost caves?
@final pollen Devs have no word and probably not decision on what's sold in the merch store.
They're game developers, not toy makers. That's something to take to the store owners/workers themselves
@surreal flint what do you mean surtlings are weak against meadows gear? One shot does 40-50 damage which is prob more than half your health if you're running around in meadows stuff
If you happen to have the wet effect when they hit you then yea that's barely any damage, but otherwise they pack a decent punch and really punish root harnesk users
Oh okay, thanks for the info! I’m an old Angry Birds game dev myself, I guess my idea of the relation between games and merch manufacturing is a bit clouded... :’D
Well, maybe luck, but they really aren't powerful enemies, they give useful loot, they are rare, and sometimes they just spontaneously combust and die. At least give them more health.
too fluffy, need horses lol
😄
For what purpose?
They would still die to water by digging around the geysers. And buffing them would make their raids unnecessarily annoying
Maybe...
I'm almost getting oneshot by surtlings in Silver gear and mountain level food. Granted that is on Very Hard and wearing Root Harnesk
Anyways I agree surtlings aren't too much of a threat because you mostly encounter them in swamp where it's constantly raining and they combust once their toes touch water, but yea buffing them would make them too strong outside of swamp and I don't think they need to be a particularly dangerous enemy. Swamp is plenty difficult already
There's a possibility (gads the drudgery). Buckets of water, put in cart, bring to fort, and make inland moat.
This is what i talking about. Wasnt trying to ping a dev though, was just proving a point. That i was told to share my idea here.
Seeing a lot of requests for painting recently. Just curious, what are some things you could get out of painting? Maybe I’m just not seeing it lol
Decor
a rainbow house 🌈
#suggestions message oooh nice idea. Similar to the artisans table I’d imagine
I know for example Terraria has painting, which drastically expands your options, but there also far more textures/materials.
i agree. i feel like anything that helps with building for the game should be added
that is the strongest part of the game in my opinion
id love more interactive blocks to, like terraria's traps flame thrower would be awsome
YESS
ugh that would be amazing
you know how terraria has the block that can be disabled. so it goes invis. maybe instead of it, a trap door. and the last biome could have something like wires to make it work XD i mean thats a little advance for vikings but still awsome
These are still cut and dressed, mortared stones. No stone cutter would mean something like a dry stone / field stone construction, but I believe that has been suggested before
does the character move faster on paths/paved roads?
i dont think so
no it dosent actually i just rememered i saw a mod to make it do that yesterday
yea I dont feel like it does
looks nice tho
perhaps it should, at least for the cart
you kinda run faster just because you don't go up, but the texture has no effect
yeah thats true
yea thats what i figured
they look really good at least
i wish they would add different types of brick and rock roads
maybe add speed buffs to some
get thunderstore and you can add it in mods tho btw. dont use vortex i had a lot of issues with it
oh I really dont like using mods, I'm a bit of a vanilla purist
i was to the first 400 hours
then i got tired of farming taking 20 years of my life XD
so i only mod to slightly improve
yea farming was really the only thing i was about to give in for lol
yeah i got the grid lock and mass harvest. (little cheaty the plant everything to)
but then i realized that i could just spam it while running and dont really need that much crops anyway
really? i go through a shit ton i wont lie
10 stacks of carrots could last me maybe 5 10 hours
yea I only use fancy food for big fights and whatnot, its mostly just honey/cloudberries and jerky
ahhh okie
and those are pretty much infinite
true true
well aslong as you build your farms in the plains you can grow almost everything super fast. that way you dont need a bunch of portals
yea last time i made my base on the border of plains/mistlands, so i could grow shrooms there too 😄
yeeei the mosquitos piss me off though
yea those caught me a few times while planting too
oh btw if you want to stop monster spawns in mistlands for farming. just put down a shit ton of crafting benches everywhere. you want it to be out of your view of site though.
i use campfires, then dont stand out as much!
oh? thats not a bad idea
and also keep working even when they're out
really? i didnt know that
i wonder if you burry it would that work to, then you dont have to see it at all
plant some grass around it too, hides it well
true! i might try that with my current play through
im playing on a fresh world with the raft building mod
yea i honestly hated using the workbenches, tried hiding them in the trees too, lol and they are easier to destroy by assholes throwing rocks and whatnot. campfires changed my life
you can burry them to btw. its kinda hard though
yea they'd break if you cover too much i think
like if you do pvp servers, to protect your base you can burry wards to.
do they?
its been a while since ive done it
i've seen it happen, but not 100% consistently
ahhh
Satisfying to have windmills around your farming and watching those skeeters die
ugh when i see one die, i feel alive again. like rn ive died about 40 times to greys, so ima make a farm for them after today. im trying to skip the early game items and go straight to the later gear. but i suck hahaha
#suggestions message What would different hammers add? If it’s a matter of durability, I feel like the hammer we have currently works fine- it’s also repairable at a workbench.
What does ♻️ mean
Already been suggested
It’s a survival game, and we already have hildir
Spawns in one location, typically far from the spawn. I’m talking about more common optional quests that reward common items.
If we do get more quests, I actually hope we get more unique rewards as opposed to common rewards 😁
Why not both?
Who will be giving us those quests? What would the quests entail?
Since we are in the afterlife and the only npc's are hildir, haldor and the ravens.
I find common rewards to be the results of common tasks, such as sailing for metal or bringing a tame back to base. I don’t think Valheim quests would expand much. That’s just my opinion though 🙂
I like the idea of having more non-hostile NPCs. They’d assign menial tasks like fetching x amount of items. Maybe they reward exp rather than just giving items. Eventually, they could be more story driven. Doesn’t have to do anything with the rest of the game, just a fun side story.
We already have a side quest line: Hildir
And you're mistaking this game for a full ARPG, it's really not
I’m a big fan of RuneScape quests, so a bit like that.
A MMO, even worse. That's the exact opposite of what the devs want it to be
I didn’t say MMO.
I was referring to the context of the quests.
You're example was of a MMO and you said you want it to be "a bit like that"
Why would there be more np's, we were chosen to defeat the forsaken in this hostile afterlife, why would there be none hostile npc's?
Even the most non-hostile NPCs are very easy to anger
It wouldn’t be difficult to add more NPCs similar to holdor.
Maybe not but does it fit the game? Also adding an NPC takes more time than you would think.
My example referenced the quests, not the game itself
RuneScape quests
It's not a matter of whether is difficult or not, it's about whether it fits the overall game or not.
That’s my point. Not everything has to be one directional.
But the game isn't, you do whatever you want to do in this game.
And hildir is just what you're asking for, an optional quest line.
Third NPC will be a Dvergr named Helder, he sells hats for wolves and lox ||kidding||
Okay then my next question is why does hildir exist
Then people would complain about the hats not being functional :p
Although I do kinda see a trader that sells tame-exclusive items
For the same reason you want quests: Side things to do.
If you want to do them, do them, if not, then don't. It's outside of the main progression
Fun quest and items
But what does it have to do with the rest of the game?
If it doesn’t fit the overall game, it shouldn’t exist.
I don't get your point. It does fit. They're apart of the species present in lore
I think your idea is good. Other guy is just anti content lol.
I'm only anti "this doesn't fit the game" content. Like MMO-like quests, as I would absolutely hate the game to even resemble a MMO. Doesn't mean I dislike all new content suggested
And I barely care about hildir, I've done like only one of her quests and not the rest.
I don't care about them so I choose to not do them. It's really that simple.
They're not inherently mmo-like. Such fetch quests are found in every type of RPG.
And Valheim is more sandbox survival craft than RPG in general.
It has RPG elements, doesn't make it a full RPG
I just like to have more story driven content. Something to keep the player engaged aside from building. Some sort of purpose besides just killing stuff. Skyrim isn’t an MMO, but has a lot of side story quests.
Skyrim is an RPG though, Valheim is not.
It’s a different kind of story, and it’s very different story telling.
I think there may be a language barrier here
Valheim does have story, it’s just not delivered through traditional dialogue and such.
It's also not a story-focused game. You can play the entire game multiple times and spend hundreds of hours without even knowing the game has lore and a main story
Skyrim is also a populated world with an economy and living breathing people.
Valheim is the afterlife and you are the chosen one to rid it of the forsaken.
I concede. I’m now against any game updates.
You're missing the point
Likewise
Were was it stated that we don't want game updates?
I'm all for updates that fit the game and the developers view of the game.
Bringing in more npc's and quests isn't that.
Another npc like Haldor/Hildir wouldn't be any more off than they are, but I don't want many of them. The world is supposed to be void of friendly life, you're here alone and on your own.
Haldor has been there since day 1 and I feel like he doesn't fit.
I'm sure he was added exclusively due to them still not knowing the direction they wanted for the game
Goodbye, so long and thanks for all the chats.
Normally I'll be back somewhere tomorrow.
Vote to remove Haldor
Hildir is there bc Haldor is there and "makes sense" just for that.
But I still wish we would have other means to get what they have without having to interact with NPCs
I don't think any of them really fit. The dvergr in Mistlands who iirc have found a way here to gather resources they find here make more sense than a trader.
Yes, and because they're there on a mission. Traders are there just... Because.
Might be a stretch, but I kinda compare it to a souls-like game. The world was once perhaps a bustling land, large civilizations once existed, but now there are just husks.
It’s a purgatory world, so there’s little to no reason for traditional civilization.
Id argue it's a Survival RPG
A survival craft with RPG elements.
Doesn't make it a full RPG
When'd all the regulars get flowers around their names lol
Like a week or so ago, smiffe stuff lol
Also, nice to see ya again, how’s Enshrouded?
😛
I ain't touched it in a while. Since it's not procedurally generated each time the replay value feels really minimal
there's probably about 50 hours of content, and it is good content, and only about 1/3rd of the world is currently finished. How long it takes for full release though is another question
One of us? (ping smiffee if you want in on the fun, he loves changing names lol)
Oh now we gotta give Grizz some flowers
I was wondering if smiffe found a way to make the slowmode amount different for different people with it or somethin lol
I can give him his flowers, but I'm not going to force it like Smiffe would 😉
Smiffe capitalized the N in my my name, because he thought it was TooMuchDoggMOM 😅
I wonder if it was Smiffe that changed my name back in the day 🤔
Almost certainly. It's one of his favorite things to do 😛
#suggestions message Those all sound like some gnarly potion/mead ingredients 👀
👀
@quasi eagle The problem is that macOS is deprecating OpenGL in favor of Metal, and even just supporting the Xbox was a lot of work. Long term it's not off the table, but short term the devs don't want to worry about having to support multiple build targets when they're focusing on content. And that's completely ignoring the labyrinthine development process that macOS requires for every build, key allocation and so on.
As Valheim is using Unity, would Iron Gate need to write a single line of Metal 2? Is not Microsoft code-signing also arduous?
We've had this discussion before, including with the devs. And no, the code signing is not nearly the same, especially if you've ever dealt with XCode vs Visual Studio, etc. Basically you have to reprovision the key each build with macOS, but you don't have to do that with Microsoft. And even if Unity supports Metal, there will still be issues. That's why I noted the XBox port, they have had to do a ton of work and that's basically just a Windows computer already, no new APIs or anything. It will be much easier to support development going forward if they limit their targets while they're still doing major changes like they are, and then consider supporting it once they hit 1.0. Like I said, not off the table, but it would slow down development and just be a pain in the ass for a very minor increase in possible market share.
Here's a bit of that discussion: #suggestion-discussion message
Thank you, @pure patio, and I see @molten sun (who built out the mac build script) was in on that chat too. My question re Unity is a real question as I don't actually know if there is any custom shader code involved.
If I try to bypass OpenGL, I see:
'Metal' was not built from editor, shaders will not be available
it may have been what @wanton atlas was referring to. If there's no custom shader code though, it could be as simple as clicking the checkbox in Editor.
On re-provisioning the key, you may have to elaborate. I do sign both Windows and macOS apps, and it's not too crazy to automate both the signing and notarization for macOS apps, especially if you're not distributing through the App Store. You don't have to involve Xcode, at least not the GUI application.
There is 100% custom shader code, which is part of the issue.
HLSL shaders?
just a matric ton of them 🥲
here's to hoping we are stuck on the current Unity engine build until the end of time 😊 🙏 (obviously joking)
@sturdy bough what about dual wielding 😎
i like both!
its just the best two handed axe is a mountains weapon
that's it
That's it what
that's the thing I was talking about
@main basin why would you try to dodge by crouching and jumping? Blocking and jumping is far more effective. If you miss the dodge, at least you're blocking
I would love to be able to at least have the option to remap the keys so dodging was a single key yeah...the combo still gets me all of the time 🤣
I would really love if the spear would get some love, I think its weird it has the smallest reach (unless thrown). I mean reach is the point of a spear.
just elaborating on my suggestion
lightning damage is already in the game and does bonus damage to wet players so being able to use it would be cool
also would be a cool looking effect to be on a weapon
What does lightning even do
I know it’s a damage type but does it have any overtime damage
Or does it effect the player at all
i THINK lightning staggers better than at least some other damage types
I don't know WHY I think that, but for some reason, that idea is in my head--i also THINK it may interact with the wet modifier (increasing damage), although I may be confusing that with frost damage
oh, yeah, @dusty sedge said that about the wet debuff increasing lightning damage
The thing is I only think there is 2 enemies that deal lightning - Eikthyr and Yagluth.
So they should might add more magic enemies who deal it
yeah it's a rare damage type currently, either from enemies or the player
||Ashlands will add an enemy lightning mage||
It's already coming, just wait. Read the news on their website
how y'all replying to specific suggestions in the "suggestions" thread?
You can grab a link to the message and share that when you make a comment (here). It's a bit of a free for all tho. If you have a question for the poster I think you can ping them too.
Which blog
Their FB page I think
It was an old concept art. Emphasis on "old"
Oh was it the first one with the ||3 charred||
@torn rain there is a channel for mod screenshots already.
Right, but the building screenshot channel is 99%!modded builds with people asking how they can build the same way.
There are some modded screenshots there but the vast majority is not. People should specify that stuff is modded though, they just don't bother to.
If the idea behind the mod screenshot channel is to separate modded images from vanilla ones, why isn’t that same courtesy applied to the building channel?
People would just ignore it like they do now and post modded stuff as if it were a normal part of the game.🤷♂️
The alternative would be strict moderating, and I'm not sure if that's something they want to do.
People are supposed to use #mods-screenshots I thought if the build is modded 🤔
TY!
I think if modded building screenshots was put right next to building screenshots then it would see more use and help the split more. Folks don't like using modded screenshots for their builds because its way down there and sees less use, and the folks who do use the channel regularly tend use it to show off particular mods and such, or heavily modded content
what do people think about the necessity of the stumps to begin with--like I can see the thinking along the lines of "this is a sort of nod to realism" design choice, but it's conceivable that alternatively the stumps could simply not generate, and when you chop down a tree it drops a big log that breaks into 2 logs (i.e. it works in every way identical to how it does now, just without a stump being created)--do people prefer the stumps, or would we gain more in instance declutter and not having to chop them (which is more for the aesthetics of removing tem than the amount of wood you get from the work) than we'd lose just not having them to begin with?
What would be the point of tree seeds if they regrow automatically?
Making new forests where none exists?
#suggestions message hot tub already exists
ye i don't think the 'regrow if left long enough' is a bad suggestion at all in and of itself, just got me wondering, is it even necessary to have stumps at all to begin with--and is just removing them even more preferable?
Well, I like to decorate with stumps 😅 I don’t have a lot of landscaping options, don’t take this away from me LOL and yeah, seeds are already used to make entire forests- I do it all the time 🙂
mmmmm, that's a good point--some people may in fact like the aesthetic options they bring
@sterile frost ive done both, the point is the 2 button option is counterintuitive. meanwhile games like elder scrolls online(technically its a doubletap, but its more intuitive than a 2-unique-button combo), conan, vermintide 2, and avorion (yes, avorion, your booster button is your dodge) all have 1 button dodge systems.
Does anybody Thiink that valheim would get more people playing it if it was online?
Like if it was an online experience? I’m sure it would, but that isn’t necessarily a good thing.
But on the flip side, tons and tons of players would be very disappointed im sure.
Online how?
@unreal quiver lol, my thoughts too
On google or something, like minecraft. to answer just do thumbs up or down.
isn't it already though--like you can join servers?
That isn't much clearer
that's as 'online' as Minecraft is/ever has been...no?
Maybe you’re talking about how Minecraft has paid servers that are in house? (Minecraft realms)
maybe they meant the minecraft classic version browser thingy
i doubt they still have that up but i wouldn't know
Yes thats what I meant @olive yacht
Oh gotcha, hmm in that case- no, I don’t think that would add much to Valheim or bring in new players 🙂
ok
Ah Minecraft classic, feels like forever ago, 2010-2011 before they got rid of it 😂
#suggestions message this is actually good idea
Nothing you can do, it's just the way it is, streamers gotta make content
You could just... Not watch the stream
@lofty depot that's sadly impossible since it's Public test. anyone can do whatever they want with it :/
hmm is it a big problem? I never got a single spoiler from streamers
It's like using a water gun to put out a fire.
Probably not, as I said, you could just not watch the stream
if you don't want to be spoiled. you have to avoid any valheim streamer or youtube content creator as soon as Public test hits
That does workx depending on the size ofc
A forest* fire
Yeah maybe not that
you guys really like losing spears i guess
spears + mountain = bad memories
I dunno mountain wasn’t too bad for me this run and I pretty much only used spear (bc I banned bow)
Hmmm fine, I didn't consider that people might want stumps for aesthetic purposes too
#suggestions message here’s an alternative solution that someone suggested, you might like it 🙂
what about... a spear on a rope
in all honesty, an end-game spear similar to Draupnir from GoW: Ragnarok would be just fantastic
and instead of a javelin jab, make it a thrust attack
thats just a polearm
No, because you can't throw a polearm
I understand that "javelin" spears have it to differentiate from the atgier but, weapons could potentially have unique qualities/attack variations and not be just a generic "next tier javelin"
I guess I should specify for those that haven't played GoW - Draupnir spear would make a copy of itself in your hand whenever it was thrown, and you could explode the spears that were stuck in the enemies. But the latter part is unnecessary, the idea is just that essentially the spear would return to you.
Just curious, do spears despawn eventually if thrown? Besides falling in the ocean of course.
I think they do, like any other item when left outside workbench area?
They do
I wish spears could do a leap attack, similar to knives, but with a little difference
There’s a fighting game called For Honor, in it is a character called the Valkyrie (from the Viking faction of course lol) and I’ve always thought the way she used a spear looked super good for what it’s worth. Now I’m no weapon expert by any means, so I couldn’t tell you if it is ‘accurate’ but it does look neat. Not really sure where I’m going with this, but maybe just something fun to mention 🙂
oh yes valk has a forward dash light that is something like that
isn't it "online" already? every time you boot up the game you have the option to run your world as a server and invite your friends, ive done that loads of times.
You know there are mods for the game and one of the mods is the return my spear mod, at the cost of extra durability your spear is always returned back to your hand when thrown it's actually really nice
No reason why it shouldn’t be vanilla though
Hello, can anyone tell me if I spelled my last suggestion right? I mean using two hands on one weapon
Its clear enough to understand.
Maybe this is more what you have in mind: Having the option to use some weapons with two hands, like an axe or sword, giving it a bit more damage and a different animation.
thank you!
If you want to use two-handed weapons, then use the actual two-handed weapons.
That's a mechanic that is only useful in DS, here it would be there just for the sake of being there, it really wouldn't add anything of value
There is: Stamina is not magic
It would be interesting for pvp and pve: changing your attack animations mid-combat with other players and some mobs could dual wield weapons too "for the sake of" diversity
The game isn't and will never be balanced around PvP.
And mobs don't care about how you use your weapons, only thing that matters in pve is position, the gear you're using and food
It would really just be a feature that was added for no good reason
What would be the point of using a one-handed weapon as two-handed when you could just use the actual two-handed version for the same benefits? If you use a one-handed then use a shield as well, sacrificing your off-hand just to try to do the same dmg as an actual two-handed doesn't make sense
Some weapons that could be used two handed, don't have a two handed variant in the game though.
Which ones?
Maces
Sledgehammers, three of them
Knives ||kidding||
Sword: Krom (and there will be more)
Axes: Battle axe and crystal
Spear: Atgeir
There is no two handed blackmetal sword, there is a one handed sword though.
Same with the axe.
Gaps are intended. Also, I mentioned that sword has a two-handed version.
Whether it's available later is another thing, still there
If the game isn't balanced around pvp, it wouldn't be worrying adding another feature
About mobs, I understand you. But isn't the mobs who care about how players use their weapons. It's the players who care, which are the most important characters of any game. Me, as a player, would love new little combat features.
While that is true and it would require a bunch of work to make it possible to switch from one handed to two handed, it would be nice and "accurate" to be able to do it.
A bunch of axes and swords can be used two handed or even two wielded simultaneously.
Do I see it happening in the game, not really, would it be nice, certainly.
okay, they do blunt damage. but can you hit the mobs directly with them as maces do?
So adding more features to a mode that isn't intended/supported for the game?
They add more combat features: Mistlands adds magic, ashlands will add ||enchantments||, you don't need to change the way weapons are used for that.
You want a one-handed, use a one-handed, you want a two-handed, use a two-handed. It's a simple game, so the combat should be simple, why trying to make attempts to overcomplicate it with features from unrelated games where those features do work bc that's how that game was designed?
Yeah, with their only attack. They don't really need a combo attack so idk why people want that.
Two-handed swords have a combo, two-handed axes do as well, same for atgeirs, why copy-pasting the same thing to sledgehammers? Isn't it a better thing that they try to make each weapon different than the other instead of doing the exact same thing for all?
It would be optional and maybe hidden if the devs want it, which wouldn't overcomplicate anything for pve.
Magic and en***** are new features, different ways of using things that do damage. Dual wielding of weapons would be another option, and it would value the blocking mechanics of weapons. If a player wants other animations with a weapon and maybe wants to block with that weapon, why don't give the tools to them? The two-handed mechanic already exists in the game, but don't you agree it would be nice to have some more? The little details are important for great games!
About pvp, it isn't fully supported just yet, but I'm sure the devs will pay more attention to this mode in the future aiming for the final game product. Pvp complexity is important too, and changing the way you use your weapon mid-combat would be really nice
I don't like the idea of "part of that is in the game, just use it". Giving other ways of doing things is what makes a rpg game a true rpg. Valheim has rpg mechanics, and many goty games are rpgs as well
Can we get a Remove all pins command/button added to the map?
I'm quite sure the devs won't put much work into pvp, since it isn't a core mechanic of the game.
Maybe Hide all pins
#suggestions post it there.
Flesh rippers and skoll and hati are dual-wielding, so we already have it.
And that's the only dual-wielding we will ever get. Making any weapon into dual-wielding would make those two weapons and the upcoming one redundant and unnecessary.
As I said, itt a simple game, so it should remain simple. If it's not necessary to add then they shouldn't add it. Valheim has RPG elements, doesn't make it a full RPG and doesn't aim to be one clearly
It's more about removing them to get a clean map. It's to manage map clutter on shared map resulting from duplicates, unwanted pins, etc. as you progress together.
PvP is a toxic shitfest that should be kept as far away from valheim as possible
Make a suggestion and explain that.
Don't you believe on fair playing?
No. If something can be exploited, it should be exploited for maximum giggles.
I would find it nice to be able to do that and the special named weapons can still be better than the dual wielded weapons.
Will it happen in the game, again probably not.
Would it be nice to have in my opinion, yes.
Some weapons with dual wielding option. Not all of them. It makes the difference
Agreed, pvp isn't something that belongs in Valheim.
The amount that is possible now is enough.
I don't think that idea is healthy. There must be ways of making pvp a great feature of Valheim
Define 'healthy.'
Way I see it, pvp is one of the lesser end of the priorities compared to finishing the main game.
Focusing on developing and cultivating pvp when the late game gear hasn't been decided on seems... reckless.
That will probably be left to mods, since pvp isn't something the developers will really be supporting nor will they put resources to it.
If I'm not mistaken.
They might, once the game is complete. But I do stress the 'might' here.
Defining 'healthy': Throwing and idea into the garbage can just because today is a bad idea
@hardy sorrel Water will probably not be changed, since it would require a massive rework.
And I mean focusing on pvp after the game is finished
Heartbreaking
Have they came out and said this?
yup, they do
same for cave/underground digging
@royal oracle itd just better if they added a context box to the cartography table for outputs
Maybe, but my suggestion is likely much easier for the devs to implement.
no pain no gain
No, you could just get them back from the map table
Then make a spear that uses eitr to return
I admit that is a fair way of seeing it.
It should definitely not be all of them...
You have limitations, rather than expect the Devs to give everything to you on a silver plate just try to overcome them yourself. You don't have universal dual wielding, then get used to the ones we have right now, it's not like there's an absolute need where we absolutely can't fight without it
I do, plenty of others don't. Every single time I see PvP in a survival craft game I always expect that the amount of griefing, rage and toxicity that comes from them must turn each of those games into undesirable mess
Just PvP in general is toxic af
Valheim would 100% reduce itself to that level if PvP was expanded.
But it's toggle able, no problem. It wouldn't be a fundemental
It already is a toggle
I know.
#suggestions message I dont think the devs want to spend time completely overhauling the water mechanics
Why?
What makes it so impossible?
It doesn't have to be completely physics based, you could use some interesting visual tricks to do this
...Because the game isn't out yet so putting time aside to overhaul already coded water physics mainly for cosmetic reasons seems like a waste of time?
They would probably have to remake the entire game.
And just for a mostly cosmetic reason
What's stopping you from hiding the pins from the menu/player?
It could be a side project. There's other things the game needs than bosses and biomes lol. I would even care if this was far down the line
Why is that a bad thing, it being cosmetic
Cosmetic is optional and most players don't care about it.
So everything that isnt directly related to necessity for survival is pointless? Can't believe they added the sauna then.
one hot tub =/= completely overhauling the water physics in a game that's not complete
Even just a bucket of water would be cool
I'm assuming we both don't know enough about the physics to make this assumption either way nobody has explained to me why it's so hardcoded to me it doesn't make sense
Which wouldn't be able to do anything
How the water works now is how the world is build, same as how the stone works.
So if you change how the water works, you'll have to change how everything interacts with water, since stone interacts with water you'll have to change that and anything that interacts with stone will be affected, so everything will need to be reworked.
Would that be a bad thing, probably not.
Would it require a freaking load of time and resources, absolutely.
Time and resources that would be better spent on other things.
Just add material groups to each buildable and interaction logics for decay that really wouldnt take as long as you'd think, stone doesn't even need this as it's resistant.
You're over complicating things
No he is over simplifying things.
Maybe @wanton atlas could explain why reworking water will not be happening?
You're oversimplifying them
Perhaps but I haven't had it explained well enough to understand yet unfortunately
I don’t think it’s a matter of possible or not, it’s more of a ‘is it worth it?’ Type thing. For example, if it took 5 years to overhaul the water physics system, that’s 5 more years waiting for other content- in a roundabout way. It’s not a bad idea at, water physics would be cool! But it’s not a feasible thing to do, then it wouldn’t be worth it.
There’s a lot of really cool ideas that people have shared and such, but it almost always boils down to ‘is it worth the time it would take to put in the game’ or ‘is there enough space for it in the game’, another thing to consider is that games aren’t infinite space, you can only put so much.
time
This is always the keyword for game development
Basically water right now is a single surface over the whole world that is transformed via shaders, it doesn't really have any kind of physics simulation or anything around it (note how it will rise through the ground when storming near the shore). On top of that, the boats, swimming, etc. all depend on how the water is implemented now so all of those subsystems would have to be redone, not to mention that Valheim is already hugely CPU limited when the world gets a bunch of instances in it, adding more physics worldwide would just kill everything. The tar pits are the closest we'll get to any kind of water rework.
Take the tar pit design, remove the stickyness, and then reskin it to the color of the ocean? Call them springs?
i mean, it can't be thaaaat simple, but it's sort of an idea?
One of the things that I think a lot of the suggestions miss is that 99% of Valheim is functional. There is almost nothing that is purely atmospheric or decorative, everything has a function and a purpose of some kind.
I'd say like 90%. As even the things that can be used/interacted with somehow don't provide anything that affects your gameplay. Like benches and chairs
Wait, I forgot they give comfort
Then trophies, item stands, etc
Unfortunate, but understandable. Thanks
Iirc the tar pits was "a way they got a liquid mechanic to work", I'd guess other stuff including more fluid ones were tested in the process.
I wouldn't assume that just because one version of a mechanic is in the game and not another, the one in the game is the only one that was tested, particularly not when the most requested version (i.e. water physics) has been repeatedly ruled out.
#suggestion-discussion message a conversation about tar and liquid physics 🙂
Trophies can be made into coal, and some are used for fishing baits or armors and weapons. The item stands can be used decoratively, but they also allow quick access to things without having to take them out of a chest.
Adornments are purely cosmetic 🤓
😉 That's why I got to 99% 😉 You can even use those structurally if you want, though. They count the same as any other piece of structure.
I will definitely say, Irongate deserves major props for giving decorations (generally speaking) a use with the comfort system. I really hope we see more games steal borrow that feature moving forward.
a water system would be totally functional, it could be a lot of fun, piping water around a base would be a whole new level of building challenge, i'd love for that to be in the scope of the game, likewise wiring a base for lighting, and other crafts i doubt will make it but would still be cool, even in a cut down budget version way imo
Get Minecraft if you want to use redstone 😛
Yes, yes. I understand why not. It's definitely not a priority and will likely never happen. Mostly musing at the idea.
I'd like to see a Yagluth rework
he's quite a pain to fight and spams meteors constantly
but maybe I'm just approaching him wrong?
Because some of their pins are useful ones that I don't have. But some of their pins are at locations I have already pinned or are pins that I just don't want.
But how will removing ALL pins solve this issue? Then you'd have to repin the ones you like?
I don't remember him just spamming meteors. I feel like he uses all 3 of his abilities fairly frequently. But his behavior likely changes based on your distance from him and such (for example he's more likely to throw meteors at you if you're 50m away from him, since he won't be trying to slam you with his hand at that distance)
The idea is that one player tidies up the shared map (removing duplicates, unwanted pins, using consistent symbols, etc.) and writes to the table, and then the other players can remove ALL pins and get that tidied up version by reading the table.
The meteors can be outrun (Granted you have decent movement speed at least or you can hide behind stone pillars). Similar for the lazer breath. The hand hit can be rolled or run away from but the lingering fire can be a bit annoying. Still not too bad with fire resist on.
you can do that now by manualy removing all pins... it will take a bit of effort for the first time but after that it will be quite easy to do once in a while...
We have well over 100 pins on our map. So every player is supposed to manually remove them all one at a time? And then manage all the new ones again later? Wouldn't it better if they could do it with one click (two if there's confirmation) every time?
I find the fight usually drags on for a long while and most of the pillars are destroyed causing massive lag
The fight does drag on a bit. I think it's faster than Queen tho
He is generally seen as the hardest boss tho I'd say
well as it would add utility only in multiplayer i really doubt they will add it anyway, and i will redirect you to my previous message, it will take some effort the first time nad every time after that it will be easier than the first time...
tbh add "remove all pins" btn dsnt look like difficult task, like at all
I would be wary to have this feature added to the UI, accidental clicking would be devastating if you couldn't get your pins back from a table. A console command would be nice
Confirmation popup will solve this. Console command will be welcome aswell
Prob not too difficult. But also probably not too useful. I don't foresee a ton of people using it, or them saving a significant amount of time when they do use it.
What about the use case where several players are sharing 100+ pins that include all kinds of duplicate pins and pins that are no longer meaningful because of progression, or otherwise wanted? This saves lots of time because they wouldn't have to manually remove all the pins one at a time in order to get the same cleaned up/updated set from the table...
In that use case it would be useful, but my statement stands
Anyways I feel like what would be more important is refining how the map table works, although I'm not sure how. Just seems very clunky
well its not very useful for solo play, i agree.
I can think of other use cases, but it's possible that the feature wouldn't see that much use. It's the kind of thing that would be VERY useful for those who want it though. And I think it would be easy to add... so good RoI overall.
But again I do also know they're more focused on the singleplayer experience so it is what it is
There's all kinds of ways to improve the map table that could involve a lot of work. But this should be a quick/easy fix.
Yea it just seems kinda niche to me. Like I feel like most people wouldn't want to lose all their markers (I wouldn't).
My friends aren't gonna have marked all the same things I did
I don’t have a lot of experience with the cartography table, but maybe it could be a feature that’s accessible purely through the table instead of just a standard map option?
Well then you just wouldn't use it. You'll handle all the duplicates and other mess you don't want, or you'll just hide other players pins altogether.
exactly. Which is why I'm wondering how much use it would get.
I'm sure some would make great use of it, just dunno how many
My sense is that most groups would like it if they could elect one player to tidy up the map incorporating everyone's input, and then everyone just grabs it.
Genuine question, do you find removing the pins to be troublesome? What are you using pins for, and why are you removing them?
It could be a trigger on the cartography table itself, instead of the player map.
It's not going to be of much use until you're sharing pins through the table anyway.
Pins that stay on the map for me are things like berries, mushrooms, dungeons and crypts. The only time I remove a pin is when I move my boat haha
When the people you're playing with are all adding pins for the same things it gets pretty messy. Or when you decide on a standard symbol for something or a new way of marking regions/locations because world progress means the old pins or way of pinning no longer makes sense or was just totally random between players...
This is worse when there's many pins, and devastating when you do all the work to fix your map... then all the old crap propagates back through everyone that hasn't cleaned their map using the map table and you're back to square one.
Sounds like a bit of conversation up front and playing with reasonable people would clear all that up without any game changes
From personal experience, telling your friends how to manage their cartography pins never works. It just comes down to not using the cartography table at all at that point
Wait a sec, if you want one person to do all the mapping then would you have to remove any pins at all? Just don’t add any pins to your own map. Let the guy in charge of it add pins and then everyone get it from the table
Well other players may discover new things that are worth pinning. You want to incorporate those in the shared pins.
My ideal use case would be you can get all the pins from your friends, click on the ones you want to keep, then hit a button (or console command) to remove all shared pins
What happens when you're doing this, but the other players aren't, and you're trying to share info via the map table? It means the people who care have to re-organize their pins every time they read the table. Like you're suggesting... that will likely lead to just giving up and embracing the chaos (what happened on our server -- our first base has 7 pins marking it for example), or less likely, players that care about having an organized map just refusing to use the table (and any new discoveries from other players).
Now imagine you're doing this (or the inverse of this which is actually currently possible) and everyone else can just wipe all pins and take your work, leaving everyone with the same curated set of map markers...
I made a mod that just stops people from adding pins to the table (or taking them from other players). That's my solution right now.
Anyone can wipe the cartography table whenever they want by overwriting it and not taking others pins anyways. I also made that a feature in my mod that it merges the pins when you add to the table, not overwrite them.
I feel like effectively removing the table is not the solution. I think a lot of the fun in the game is the shared process of exploration and discovery and the cartography table is great for that. We just need a better way to manage the clutter that results on the map table when multiple players are sharing all these redundant, unwanted, or no-longer-relevant pins with each other like some kind of unstoppable virus.
It doesn't remove the table at all, just controls WHAT you add to the table. Players toggle if they want to share pins, or if they want to take pins from other players. So at any time you want you can change this behavior. I don't see that getting added to vanilla, but it makes managing other people's pins easier. The ability to just delete all the shared cartography pins in mimimum what I would want added to the game. I like getting the map portion from other people, but I hate having to clean up other people's messes.
@hallow scroll So just a heads up, it’s a good idea to split up your suggestions into separate posts, that way each suggestion can have an accurate vote. Also, things such as base NPCs for hire and farm animals have been voted no by Irongate.
Also, you can already dismantle all boats and put them in your inventory.
Just gotta "dismantle" with an axe, not the hammer 😛
Thats not true, you can totally use the Sledge!
Or a snek.
or your FISTS!
but sadly not by plowing into a surtling pyre. Apparently boats are immune to fire
@hallow scroll way to suggest everything on the no list in a unique, interesting way xD
oof
so I should look at his list and just nope all of it?
@unique cove there is a standard bear trap, I launched the game to make sure I wasn't crazy lol
If you're making suggestions before beating the Queen, I highly suggest you play through the rest of the game 😉
Ah refined eitr
This is why I haven't seen it
Man I've gotten halfway through ML- I figured it's close enough
I found the recipe before beating the queen though
yea but nobody ever checks the artisan table for new recipes
just craft the mechanical spring and you have them I guess
Refined eitr is the core of Mistlands progression, everything changes once you have that
There - edited
Guessing you haven't made a Ballista yet, either...
as for flame trap, that used to be the campfires, lol
until the started taking damage when dealing it
if you make a ballista, don't stand in front before putting a trophy
I use surtling flames for abominations and bonemass sometimes
I had a bat raid destroy a bonfire in my base 😛
Ever parry an abomination when it's standing on a surtling geyser?
No I just let it swing while standing there
i see a hugin/munin hint opportunity
Try parrying it. It takes bonus damage, it almost literally melts in front of you
Thats actually really good idea
#suggestions message
And let it get tarnished (or simply dull, not luscious) over time unless you polish it with smth
It’s my understanding that silver is unique in that it’s mostly just used for armaments. I know there’s a few exceptions of course.
It's already enough that when it comes to bronze, copper and iron I need to take into account what I can build with it besides having to use it for gear as to having to include silver in that list
#suggestions message honestly, fireflies actually sound really nice and cozy 😅 maybe Irongate can get it right as opposed to Mojang
Really like idea of summoning raids 👍
I think we need a more renewable source of black cores (Ashlands maybe?) before we can use them on a fire 😛
Unless you plan on mass spamming refineries/black forges/galdr tables, you only actually need a limited amount of them.
Besides, surtling cores are a infinite, so if you don't want to use black cores then use surtling cores and done.
I'm now pondering at the idea of surtling/black cores having the ability to trigger raids that are blocked by boss keys, so you can still get them regardless of what key is enabled
I just want a manual way to trigger raids, don't care method lol
@solar plover Use a roof
@placid badger - this is not possible due to the way the game is programmed FYI 🙂 and the devs have also said it goes against their vision of the game. it is a common suggestion, though
ohhh, they could add new workbench which lets us support the ground above a bit maybe with flamemetal rods or something @brisk turtle
this opens a whole new building style though
The ground is just a flat sheet that is stretched up anddown, digging into it is impossible. You can build under boulders and stuff, though.
If you really want to dig caves freely, you'll need to look for a game using a voxel based engine. Which Valheim isn't, and it's too late to change that.
If you really wanted you could use modding tools and spawn in a bunch of mistlands or mountain rocks and fake it, but there's no way to make the terrain do what you're suggesting.
It's not a bad idea, just not an idea that will probably work for Valheim
#suggestions message what is epic loot? And what would it add/improve upon?
A very broken and even more extremely unbalanced mod that adds enchantments and ARPG-like mechanics (like mobs dropping already-enchanted gear)
Even with the configs, it still manages to be highly unbalanced. Of all mods that could be added to the game, EL shouldn't even be on the list
||Especially considering we're getting enchantments already||, except I know devs will make it not even remotely as broken and unbalanced as that mod is
I was actually just watching a showcase of the mod, wow it’s busted 😂 literally trivializes the game. And too many flashing colors. Also an absurd amount of additional materials.
Exactly. From what we've been teased, ashlands mechanic will probably be much simpler and valheim-ish
it is super cool but poorly balanced, i played it with a friend and we nerfed the crap out of it and ran it on very hard and still we became super OP
There is a mod that adds crystals and gems to the game to modify your equipment with that I find far more enjoyable and balanced than the epic loot mod. 😋
The additions to come just might have taken a bit of inspiration from it perhaps, of course anything the devs would add is usually simpler and more straightforward.
Jewelcrafting yes, a lot more balanced and fit into the theme than whatever EL tried to do. And much less broken on a technical level
What about a Bermuda Triangle in the ocean?
Maybe an area of strange currents and winds, maybe just a whirlpool looking thing that you run into at times that...who knows? Teleports you? Destroys your ship?
Teleports you and your boat to a boss fight was what I wished for 😄
Still I don't really know how the mechanics of teleporting more than a player would work...
#suggestions message
Kinda like this idea in general. Mb not runestones but some random scrolls in chests and mb only in terms of preparing you for later magic stuff so when you discover it you're not a complete noob
That's also how magic could also be nerfed a bit
I feel like runestones are far too widespread and there're too few variations for them just to be lore markers
Similar to Ark where you get EXP for finding notes and such?
I mean sure but a lump, not a boost
Don't know, never played
Visited runestones could glow blue
Not "glow", but replace the red text
Oooo, I like that one
You should make a suggestion post for that, idk if anyone has in the past
Also, while i'm here, a bit off topic. Give me please this possibility to cross water obstacles on a log of a tree i chopped down, not asking much. Sure, all survivalists will be grateful
I mean those trees still float on water wo any purpose
Log running?
Never do if you value your computer
i kinda value my time first and the ability not to waste it on every thing imaginable ig
That to. Yeah- not for you. Or anyone with sense. I have 300 hours in it though.
500* Listen, there're people with over 3,000 in that place, 'least I'm not them....
Beside the point though
I saw somewhere that in 500 h you can walk from Warsaw to Madrid, if this anyhow makes more sense
#suggestions message Or really any way to indicate they've been read already...but I agree. After a while, I just ignore the marker stones because they don't seem to do anything except show me the same unhelpful blurbs of information.
Can they be destroyed?
Doubt it
They're indestructible.
I would really love it if they only ever placed one of each type of marker stone in any given world. ONLY one...that way each one is unique and it would make me want to read them.
Also, telling the player that boars and other animals can be tamed is hardly "unhelpful", though most of them are indeed just fluff.
Sure...the 1st time you read it it is helpful....the 200th time you've read it is not.
But if there were only one ‘useful tip’ stone, then it would be harder to find, yeah? Maybe once you read a specific message, all stones with that message could be marked in some way showing that it’s already read?
Or make it so that that message changes to something unique and is "cemented" onto the physical stone once the 1st person reads it. But then you'd probably need a lot more messages. I don't even care if they are helpful or just an amusing blurb. If they were unique (or just 1 or 2 in quantity) it would make them worth reading...it's when you run into dozens of stones that all have the same message that makes me not care or even bother with them anymore.
Damn, what did the runestones ever do to you? It's a fun way to get a bit of lore about the world, it's not that deep.
Imagine runestones doing smth to you.. like falling on you, or killing with information
Lots of the runestones are actually spawning locations for the things they talk about.
The boar ones are super useful because 3+ boars will respawn there regularly etc.
Boars don't respawn at those runestones.
Also, I think it’s only the boar stone that spawns anything, every other runestone doesn’t spawn anything, right?
Yes. The boarstone just occurs with some one-time boar spawns. Any further boars found around there are coincidental spawns in a valid area
Right, but no other stones spawn any other creature?
Not that I'm aware of
Runestones never spawn anything
the draugr runestone has a couple one-time draugr spawners around it as well but that's it iirc
the drake and greydwarf runestones also each have their own location group and a slightly different poi makeup, but they don't actually have any spawners.
the neck, troll, surtling, wolf, fenring and lox runestones are all just part of their respective biomes' runestone location groups, so they're all just a runestone with random text and a bit of dirt underneath.
Moder*
Regarding the Yag vegvisir, they've said that the reason why sealed towers will likely never have one is because it's just a side quest, they don't want Hildir quests to become mandatory and for people to go out of their way to do them just for the Yag location.
As you said, Yag is easy to spot, and people usually find the hand first rather than the vegvisir ^^
Probably wouldn't hurt to have it spawn a bit more overall though 🤷♂️
More options to not miss boss locations the better really.
I don't think it hurts that we actually have to do some exploration to find it, tbh.
@earnest sentinel if you want to use a two-handed then use the actual two-handeds. It's pointless to use a one-handed as two-handed when you could just use the actual weapons instead
Just because you are not getting the point, doesn't make it pointless
You have dedicated types of weapons, you are meant to use them. Why changing the function of some just to use them as the weapons you can actually use instead?
Under what reasoning you would use a one-handed axe as a two-handed when you could just use the actual two-handed versions that do the exact same purpose?
I had this idea.. as soon as plains don't have crypts as other biomes, what if those gross growths could speak a bit. What if a growth trophy once you hang it on a wall could show the boss location
@modest hinge valheim is the only world they will develop.
The entire purpose of the game is to be in valheim until the character completes their mission.
And after the mission is completed? what then?
Game is finished, you either start a new playthrough or move on to other games.
just roll credits?
Game is supposed to be for every single game is existence
Probably. That's what usually happens at the end of a game...
are you a dev?
Nope, but I've been here long enough to know how they do things
and tell me how do they do things?
Development of the game is limited to the world of valheim.
Once they release the final content update the game will reach v1.0 and no more content updates will probably be released, they'll only be limited to hotfixes and such.
What they do afterwards not even them probably know but what is certain is that they want to finish the game first before planning anything else and so far there are no plans to continue adding content after 1.0
is this like a game supposssed to be related to norse mythology or just random event?
Also, the game is about Valheim, not about the nine world of Norse mythology. So there's no reason to create other worlds and add content to it
Yes, related, as in based and takes inspiration from Norse mythology. Which means is not meant to be a 1:1 representation of it
would seem cooler to make Skiðblaðnir sails off the edge of the world onto a sea of stars then roll credits
perfect cliff hanger
seriously though how do you roll the credits on this game? on a sandbox building kind of game is a difficult thing to do, and the cowboy riding into the sunset is a good one to end on. its a classic.
You won't get an ending like that probably, but at a certain point it will just go into stasis with probably occasional updates or bug fixes
there are a lot of ways u could skin this cat. you get accepted into valhalla and you walk across a rainbow bridge, to youre character dying and getting picked up by Valkyries it would be a hard decission to end such a beautiful game.
especially to not make it seem over or under theatrical or cheesy.
I mean...the game is years from being finished, I don't even think the devs are 100% sure what's gonna happen at the end
well the best stories dont have a beginning or an end they are like a dream.
Hmm I disagree, I actually find the best stories have a distinct end. For example, think of all the movies with silly sequels that just won’t die and end up dragging on for far too long.
Movies, games, shows, there are dozens of examples.
#suggestions message gaps in weapon progression are intended, I believe it encourages using different weapons and playstyles to break away from min/max and linear gameplay 🙂
Unless that blunt weapon is frost-enchanted, it would be worse than just using frostner
#suggestions message @daring musk they are planned for 1.0 release
I didn't know that information, thanks bro
To expand on my POI idea and not clutter the suggestion tab, they don't need to be in depth or even create new assets. Even finding a lv2 bronze atgier (crafted by: Ulf) stuck in an ancient tree is good enough.
@rose swan I agree some things deserve a sequel because there ending was good like god of war I guess we will find out if this game deserves the same treatment or if its a one hit wonder.
You were going well until this...
You should craft your own gear, not find it
Something that has been annoying me in other games is when found gear ends up being better than the ones you craft.
What's the point of making crafted gear an important aspect of the game if you can essentially ignore it completely?
I mean... that's one heavy preference.
There is a pretty big reason why lots of games have better found gear than crafted gear, and when gear ends up being half of what you find in some games... when what I crafted is already better makes a huge chunk of the possible loot feel worthless.
I myself prefer when there is a happy middle ground where there is an aspect to the gear you can only get from found gear, but then you can elevate that found gear with some crafting / upgrading.
That being said, we don't find gear at all in valheim to begin with so... no reason to change that now.
I agree that there should be more POIs generally speaking, but I don’t know about finding gear 😅 or at least, if there is gear outside of crafting, it would be neat if it were unique, not something you can already craft.
I will say, finding my first draugr village was a really cool experience- I’d like to have similar experiences further in the game.
Mmm maybe the middle ground for valheim would be to find the weapons you can't craft and fill the gaps in the progression. I know it's intended but still, could be a decent option.
Like instead of crafting a silver atgeir you find it, due to the tier, it's already better than the iron one so it doesn't technically replace anything. Also, iron atgeir is still solid in mountains and even plains if you never find the silver atgeir
Not having at least two more fist weapons is the only gap I disagree with
That’s an idea I’ve always really liked. I do like the idea of finding some gear and crafting others (a game that does this well imo is Terraria) but the issue is finding ways to make sure you can’t snag a powerful weapon and become too powerful.
Speaking of weapon gaps- I’m against a club in the mistalnds, because as far as I know it’s the only biome that doesn’t have a club? Gaps in progression be like:
Meadows: 2 one-handed clubs
Black Forest: 1 one-handed blue, 1 two-handed club
Swamp: 1 one-handed blue, 1 two-handed club
Mountain: 1 one-handed club (bonus, super powerful and useful for many biomes)
Plains: 1 one-handed club
My original thought was things to find and see, or things to mark on the map to go back to. I was building on the fishing POI already in the game or findable lanterns, sausage, etc. in the mistlands with that idea, but theres no reason to have a gameplay or functional component to these findables. Could just be a non-grabbable spear in a tree for instance.
Something to make the location more memorable, rather than give the player any benefit.
That would be a pretty neat way to fill out a few of the missing weapons between tiers yeah. And of course you should still be able to upgrade them a few times like the rest too, so there is still somewhat of a crafting component if you want the most from them at that time.
I myself rarely upgrade gear now though, since I don't spend long in most biomes and just push progression hard 🤭
@atomic flame it's a co-op game, not PvP
I know but just for fun
It has been suggested many times and their intended way of playing is coop, meaning that PvP will probably not be expanded
Ok thanks for letting me know
I agree with the pink flame suggestion, more pink things always yes 🩷
Additional Hildir Rewards
Didn’t want to post this in suggestions because I felt it was too specific and detailed. Here’s the short and sweet version. #suggestions message
-Brass chest: Sells barrels that function as chests (wooden or reinforced?)
-Silver chest: Sells taxidermy mount. This kit can be crafted with respective pelts to allow the hanging of pelts on walls. Functions exactly like pelts that are on the floor. In other words, you don’t get additional comfort if you already have a floor pelt.
-Bronze chest: Sells a material that can be further crafted into a reskin if the dragon bed. Perhaps a darkwood bed that features more wolf pelt so it’s visually more dark and grey? Raven bed?
This is a bit more specific than I wanted it to be, but ultimately I would just like to see additional purely cosmetic options from Hildir in addition to clothes. I find alternate furniture options to be a good option, since she sells the iron pit, which is basically a really nice reskin of a campfire.
Imagine a taxidermy troll for decoration.
I think these ideas work well to illustrate what you mean. You might want to link this comment in your suggestion post so people can find the additional info you added here.
I think this is a fun idea, and could be a good way to add some of the cosmetic variety builders crave without going crazy on duplicate-function build pieces. It would also add additional interest to HIldir's quests-- as it is, while the clothes are fun, they're not hugely motivating to me when they also unlock permanent raids. Wanting that really nice bed would make turning in the chest much more alluring.
Good idea! I like keeping the rewards purely cosmetic, I originally had an idea for more specific armor sets, but after some discussion we decided that the rewards shouldn’t be something players might feel forced to get. Thanks for the support 👍
I suggested dvergr sharp stakes drop scrap iron when broken down. I never figured out why sharp stakes don't give back their materials like everything else does. I get the wood might be unusable, but the iron? That's not a material most people like having to scavenge. So, the idea of losing my iron to dverger stakes makes me not want to use them - ever. With my suggestion, at least you still have to gather more yggdrasil wood and re-smelt the iron before using the iron again.
Likely answer, people used to use the spikes to farm things like Greydwarf nests. Same with campfires and why they have a durability now.
@ancient forge Just overcook your unneeded seeker meat into coal. Doesn't take too long, and coal is always useful.
@pure patio never waste a food!
LOL I got a good giggle out of the reactions on the
post #suggestions message
sadly only Nitro ppl can upvote 😢
And downvote 😅
Get wreked lol
I like the energy behind the rested area idea, but I think the comfort ranges should just be boosted a little so we don't have to make our homes so cramped
#suggestions message I agree 100%, if you haven’t already, drop your vote (for what it’s worth) to show your support 😁
Ah yep already did, and wow that's a big positive response on that
Still mad at u for downvoting it
The main point of 'rested area' idea is to get rid of lagging caused by 'permanent tracking' of all comfort items
I didn't know that system was laggy, but I don't see how it would get better by changing it. You still have to check the area for what items there are (and if you're inside it)
I was just thinking along the same lines earlier today, aka if the comfort items could tie in with one main item that would make the system more effective. Instead of a fire (as you tend to have multiple in a bigger base), it could also be a ward, of which most people don't place as many (except for some crazy building types 😅 )
Yea, it's a bit messy as it is now, you probably can feel it if you have a lot of comfort items around you. By tying it to some essential piece you get rid of comfort items constantly checking the distance to the fire, that's why some resting area would be perfect.
I don't want to build a ward each time i want to get rested buff in the wilds for example
Just make the comfort buff work for the entire base area? like in enshrouded. Simple and convenient
Yes, anyone would certainly feel comfortable in the middle of a farm planting crops under a heavy thunder storm
Sheltered status - exist
So you have your farms covered? Crops don't grow
Nope, y dont get comfort if y not in shelter, or without fire, or when wet
How does Enshrouded know when you are in a base and when you aren't?
It does sound interesting to have all buildings that are in a certain area give the comfort of everything combined in all of the building instead of having a building that has everything cramped inside to give max comfort.
It has to do with the way comfort is currently applied. It's using the same technique as the workstations to see if you can build something, it's a radius around an object. It would be a MASSIVE rework of a lot of things to change the way comfort is applied and calculated in the game for minimal benefit. Not to mention that it's super easy to just re-up your rested bonus.
by construction feasibility plus usual heat and roof check
I thought Enshrouded had like a set building area that's your base?
I think having the option to make an irregular shaped comfort radius is exploitable- theoretically you could ‘chain’ comfort objects/fires together to get your maximum condor buff to absurdly far locations.
Wouldn't know haven't played it.
It's not impossible. I just don't think the devs will find it compelling enough to spend the time to overhaul it when it's not even close to necessary.
Not really, y can place up to 8 "flame shrines" and it enable building area around it
100%, like I’m sure there’s some way to do it, but yeah it might not be worth the complete overhaul.
I’ve had more than my fair share about comfort though 😅 I should probably abstain.
True but if they rework it they could set boundaries or only allow for x bounces or a max amount of space allowed.
Also not getting comfort when not warm / sheltered will also prevent some shenanigans.
#suggestions message they could delay the 'renewable' obsidian to Ashlands as well, thematically appropriate, and keeps the Mountains obsidian deposits relevant and 'gated' behind an iron pickaxe being required, just adds a later-game useful additional (and renewable) way to collect obsidian
#suggestions message Not trying to shoot down your idea, but isn’t the point of no-map to be immersed in your world and have your ‘map’ be the roads you make and the waypoints you find along the way?
Although i'm always sceptical about any map idea for a no-map (and this one also), but obviously drawing your own map and having a map uncovering for you are completely different things. i mean you still keep doing it in your head.
it'd be neat if the game lets you make maps yourself. How good your maps are depends on how well you pay attention and remember stuff 😁 but it def makes finding your way around feel more realistic
Some ppl enjoy building roads and finding waypoints, but I don't, I'd rather sketch out maps on paper. If I had the time i might give it a shot
@earnest sentinel
@still steeple re: #suggestions message there is a mod for that https://www.nexusmods.com/valheim/mods/2532
but I agree it should be vanilla functionality 😅
We're playing a no map run and are really enjoying it, but we also thought it would be nice to have a map at home from time to time just to get a sense of scale for things, hence I made that mod ☝️
The system could still work as is, when no ward is present. But if one is placed it could be simplified.
oooh smart! we are currently a vanilla game but if we decide to include anticheat mods and server side characters then we'll do this
oh after looking at it though, it detracts from the struggle of drawing your own map
@last onyx turn off autoloot
That doesn't solve the issue with items cluttering the ground
I had to use removedrops multiple times in the fight just to keep fps playable for my brother, and even removedrops didn't always remove everything on the ground
I'm also not entirely sure why they would need to drop anything anyways, after finding all the pieces for the boss I was throwing away seeker stuff because I had so much of it
The game will collect items into stacks if there are a bunch in an area, but there's only so much you can do just given the nature of the game. If your brother is having FPS issues there he should probably turn down his point lights and shadows settings, or turn down the render scaling a bit. Otherwise he'll need to upgrade his CPU and RAM. They drop things because they're Seekers, just like every other one in the world. Lots of stuff you can make out of carapace anyway, arrows, etc.
