God bro i stepped on a plains biome before
then you should have recognized it.
Like i got black metal scraps
It was a small island with dead trees so i stepped on it second i stepped on it i got 1 shotted
hell, when you're in a biome, your minimap has the actual name of the biome right there
deathquitos are just an anolog for malaria
gotta drink a lot of gin to keep the deathsquitos away i guess
Deathsquitos are fast, once you enter a plains it’s usually too late already
I know but i didn't pay attention to that due to from what i experienced i need to get a little inside of island for the biome name to pop up
ah, this game, like life in general, is easier if you pay attention
Mb dawg for not knowing how a swamp looks like and get 1 shot by a random enemy
sounds like a swamp
Swamps aren’t that bad
you can look at it on the map it will say @plush umbra
swamps are bad at first and if you dont have posion resist or are new
Man it didn't look like plains no plains grass whatsoever it was js a dry island with dead trees
swamps tend to be darker and more dinjy, plains are quite vibrant so fair enough
Yeah figured that out later when i cameback
Whats the optimal size for the kitchen??
I make it 6x6 metres minimum (more is better for ingredient storage)
getting insta murdered by setting foot into the plains way too early unwittingly has to be like one of the staple valheim experiences
second only to dying while chopping down a tree
exactly
Dying to your first tree, or was that only me?
its when the deathsquito flys out to your boat and clarts you. absolutely horrendous @trail pelican
100%
being chased by your first troll
terrifying
And unfortunately, you shared a picture of your boat stuck on the shore of a plain a few minutes before you rage quitted. So you can try to convince us it was a swamp all you want but you shared the moment before that deathsquitoe killed you
the 3rd staple valheim experience is dying while building up high
Um guys what is a rancid remain? Its 1 star
that was my first experience in Valheim^^
- death to tree
- death to overly enthusiastic jumping
- death to smoke inhalation whilst
- oh shit, what's the giant blue thing?!
- wow, what a peaceful golden field...hey, what's that buzzying sound?
oh shit, I skipped "welcome to the swamp, bitch"
whats this noise in the mist?
It’s a rare skeleton with a mace that deals poison damage
sounds like an air horn
who's playing a trombone in the mistlands....
Should i bother fighting it does it have the same attack patten as a normal skelly?
yeah innit XD @trail pelican
It has a different, slower animation but just like a skeleton it only has one attack and no random movement so it’s completely predictable. It won’t drop anything unique but may be between you and a treasure room.
and with storage? ca. 5x5 or?
what would yall say is a good price for a basic server for valheim?
Yeahh he is blocking off my enterance to the chamber
Holy shit he isnt taking any damage
What weapon are you using?
Flint knife but i killed him now
lol
gportal's pricing is better than getting a linux shell host on AWS
I love knifes jump attack 😌 such a good move
thinking of running some servers and renting them out as i have some spare machines
you probably will need to beat gportal pricing at a minimum. but honestly it sounds like too much work for too little return
yeah its a wonder how the make money from it, but i have the know how just curious as to how much they charge for a vanilla server
economy of scale.
they've most likely greatly generatlized all their infrastructure code. they negotiate better pricing for bandwidth and compute, etc.
indeed, lotta 'one weird tricks' in this economy that only work/become available once you reach a certain scale of wealth/capital
damn, sounds like id have my work cut out for me. still gonna try it on the side as a little hustle. might be the next big thing haha
$150 if you buy a year upfront for 10 slots for a valheim server. if that service is any good, that's nearly impossible to beat imo
depending on what type of servers you have lying around for this, you may pay more for electricity alone
i could beat 150 dollars
good luck. at that point the question is, how much is your hourly return going to be from this side project 🙂
oh like 5 pound ($6.50) a month per server if i priced it at 7.50 pounds a month ($9.80)
but i would face problems scaling it i reckon. theres only so much you can do on domestic internet
i would also check if your contract with your internet provider allows running a business on it. in the US, comcast has a seperate business internet vs what most people get. and i bet the fine print has things to say
#screenshots message @tacit crystal you can do a fire and rested bonus down in the ground too. But it looks neat. I'm just nitpicking the efficency
yeah thats the thing with domestic internet here that someone from work mentioned. it may be fine for one or two servers but if i scaled it all up a bit it would probably start causing alarm bells for my ISP lol
idk its just an idea at this point im gonna just play it by ear. just have fun with it
Funny you mention that! I actually used to work at a major internet provider- won’t say the name. But yes, technically in the fine print… you’re not allowed to host a business on residential internet service. At least, that’s how it was when I was there lol
I know, I just wanted a tower.
i used to host a valheim server for myself in AWS, and only turned it on when i wanted to play. it was a fun technical exercise, as i wrote code to manage the DNS and automation around it. But it probably wasn't cost effective
damn. i mean im still pretty much a noob with it. i just started cause we were doing loads of networking at my work. pulling my hair out trying to get medical devices to talk to a virtual central station over a network through Vlans. stressed me right out but also made me think i could try my hand at hosting a game server
its all good fun tho. im learning as i go
... in fact, i'm still getting charged 65 cents a month for secrets management. i need to go delete those
whats that
i'm using https://aws.amazon.com/secrets-manager/ to host the password for the valheim server
very much overkill, but it's the way you'd do it with a "real" app in AWS
oh damn, it hosts a password? so what does that mean.
applications usually need 'secrets'. passwords to in the app, stuff for database connections, 3rd party services, whatever. generally an app reaches out to a secrets management service to get the ones it needs. secrets management service enforces best practices around passwords and their rotation, etc
valheim server has the password you need to connect. in my setup, when the valheim server started up, it would read that password from secrets manager
oh damn, yeah i usually just put in some random numbers for the password XD
have they talked about us yet?
Huh?
who is "they"?
wdym?
They’ve talked about valheim
they gonna talk about it 2 more times I believe
Hello, does anyone have massive fps drops as a peer in ashland biome?
my friend has a curse or somthin like that cause every time he drives boats he hits somthing and when i'm alone then i don't hit anything
and i don't see anything under the boat do
too*
tell your friend you're just a better sailor
Lag can cause damage to the boat while sailing
why is there no ashlands tier knife
There are gaps in armor / weapons in most biomes.
all weapons have some gaps in progression 🙂 knives didnt have one since black forest
i guess
it's tough being a harpoon-main
harpoon is counted as a spear i believe 🙂
but like every type of melee weapon excluding heavy weapons usually extends to the ashlands
shhhh
swords and spears have no gap at all in progression
two handed clubs have no ashlands weapon
i said excluding heavy weapons
god why do we have this same argument every week?
plains dont have a spear
can we just put a FAQ on the wiki discussing this topic? Q: Why doesn't X biome have Y weapon?!?!
and swords are indeed in almost all biomes, exept meadows
Why doesn't every biome have a buckler? Why doesn't every biome have a tower shield?!
yes there is no meadows sword but theres only like 3 or 4 types of weapons
it's like the tutorial level
Why doesn't every biome have an armor set with a set bonus?
the answer is... because there isn't
Because the devs didn't want one.
i love the splitnir tho
you couldve entered with that
possibly. It doesn't have the effect though, i'm betting. I'll try the next time this question comes up. I'm starting the clock now.
mark the calendar boys, 11:28AM PDT, go
it's fair some weapons have a gap though, but i wish i didnt have to switch weapons just to keep my damage up
oct 8th
it's a common thing some people are unhappy with. The response is generally: the game incentivizes you to be flexible in the weapons you use and carry.
but what doesnt make sense is the fact the dundr requires bloodstone
if someone wants to specialize in only piercing weapons, they end up unhappy against a mob with pierce resistance, for instance.
dundr should be iolite 100%
i totally don't understand that one.
the real issue is that like every boss past the elder is resistant to pierce
it's so unfair as an atgeir glazer
i think it's offset by significant mobs that are weak to pierce
not really
See this complaint actually makes sense.
and generally how well bows perform throughout the whole game
i CAN understand the boss pierce restistance more
it's understandable that bonemass and moder are resistant to pierce but how is yagluth or the elder
what kind of bone is buddy made of
some stuff is just dev choice for game balance reasons
i havent fought fader yet but i bet he is too
the devs might have decided that pierce weapons tend to out perform other weapons, so lets make some bosses resist pierce
i don't know if that's true, but it could be logical
atgeirs have a pretty bad downside to their rediculous stagger
they take a ton of stamina and are fairly weak with their block armor
same with knives in their lack of block armor but you can use a shield with them
right. it's a game design decision. their secondary attack so strong, it makes sense that they have downsides
but what shouldnt be a game design decision is the lack of a real bloodstone magic weapon
the game isn't finished yet, of course
fair
They don't need block armor if they can stagger everything though
who knows what the deep north may bring
Do log beams support more weight than normal wood beams? I assume so, but support is not super well explained. I have my house wrapped in beams to support it's weight 😂😂
i'm sure some of the ashlands ingredients will be used in DN recipes
just like refined eitr is used in ashlands stuff sometimes
bosses can't be staggered and enemies with enough health still take a lot of hits
i'm excited to see a deep north two-handed hammer. it's going to have a tough act to follow after the demolisher.
with an iron atgeir it takes like 4 or 5 secondary hits to stagger an abomination assuming he hasnt made you roll away or run out of stamina
abom is resist to pierce
it's like someone saying "my dagger isn't doing much damage to this rancid remains!"
smh
okay well a bronze atgeir to a troll still takes like 2 to 3 hits
troll is weak to pierce
a lox to a blackmetal atgeir
resist and weak are huge game mechanics
No, it's usually 1 once you raise your skill a little/upgrade it
i want to see atgeir secondary hitting troll's head lol.
that'd be really funny
"hold on troll, let me climb this tree so i can smack you harder"
it'd be really fun if there were aerial secondaries
or if there was a magic weapon with a secondary
Matches root armor, I suppose
come to think of it, abominations are pretty similar to the elder
The elder isn't, and yagluth is a skeleton
Moder is not resistant to pierce
i coulda swore he is
Bonemass is very resistant, and Yagluth, The Queen and Fader are normal resistant.
Barbecue bonemass over a surtling flame
Fader has some visible bones so he's resistant for the same reason as yagluth. The queen is the only boss that seems to have pierce resistance for balancing only and not her design.
i coulda swore they are
If only there was a website that... Eh, you get the drill by now.
why are skeletons resistant in the first place
i feel like piercing bones would be easier
Have you tried to pierce a bone?
maybe it'd be harder to actually hit a skeleton cause theyre thinner
Try shooting a dog bone and see if it makes it through
then add blunt arrows so bow users won't have to make damned maces
have you????
blunt arrows would be really fun though
The iron mace isn't that expensive, it's not an issue.
sure, make bows even more OP xD
bows arent even that op
bows arent op
their late game draw stamina is nuts
Bows are safe at the expense of efficiency.
the spinesnap has what like 14/s
with full stamina i could get like 5 accurate shots out of that thing
But your stamina bar is very big with mistlands food, and by that point you have lingering stamina mead
Bow skill reduces draw time so you spend less time draining your stamina before a shot
fair
tbh i havent ever felt these skills making any difference
with full skill maybe like 10 shots
Most skills don't but with bows it's very noticeable. At ~70 skill you can fully charge a shot while rolling, which is very powerful.
Bow (and blood magic) skill levels have a very noticeable impact
Blood magic especially
I've definitely felt an effect of the axe skill using the electric berserkir axes a lot.
With full blood magic, summoned skeletons deal 3 times their regular damage
The magic barrier has 3.5 times it's normal health
It doesn't affect the trollstav though
Except for the eitr cost tho
Staff of protection is better. Even at blood magic 0, being able to take (and parry if you want to) any hit without dying is op.
Yes, smashing or crushing is MUCH easier.
idk i feel like in most cases im not awarded by parrying, mostly with bubble
it vanishes as soon as i hit my parry
I need to get stronger woods and stone. I finally got my house standing properly and it took me like 8 in game days 😂
You're making yourself vunerable to make another enemy vunerable
the point is it doesn't matter how much damage OR hp left on bubble--you will ALWAYS parry--that's the secret power
yeah but i can parry almost every enemy without the bubble
I wonder if there's a connection..
well then you don't need it so much lol, but it opens up interesting build possibilities, being able to guarnatee a parry off the bubble
but i want it
without having to specifically have a certain health & block armor combo to reliably parry
Build full stam, go in naked, get the parry and then 2 hand swing
That accurate?
You'll need eitr food to make the bubble
Or a friend can eat it for you
Oh I guess
sad thing i can't play as paladin
What do you mean by that?
being able to use magic+melee weapons at the same time
You can.
nah i cant
Bro thinks he's in baldur's gate
Because Valheim is classless you can do literally anything you want.
you can always do 1 eitr/1 stam/1 health if you wanted
With an eitr and stamina diet you should be ok to do that.
literally the build I'm describign lol
because i have to eat eitr food which takes most of my life
get enough eitr and blood magic skill to cast bubble
But with a staff of protection you don't need any health
Yo, am i able to transfer characters between steam and xbox if i have previous saves/characters on xbox and im now planning to get the game on steam?
but i need everything else to even cast it
So just do EES.
thats not how paladin works
yeah, this ain't D&D
Given that it doesn't even exist in this game it can work however we want it.
Play that then, maybe you'll enjoy it.
this aint dnd this aint baldurs gate
Exactly. You're the one trying to make it that way.
like wtf no one ever mentioned these games punks where you got that from lmao
i want to be a paladin in valheim xd
Then how does a paladin work? With a staff of protection and some eitr & stamina food, you should be able to use magic and melee efficiently together
because valheim and viking myth doesn't really have paladins. that's why it's mentioned
Paladin, being a D & D class.
you're asking for something, paladins, which is most known in D&D
i don't know paladins from d&d
d&d got that from you know where? real life, and that's where i heard about paladins
i wouldn't be surprised if dungeons and dragons had the first rpg instance of paladins in history
This is how you described a paladin, and it's already completely possible within valheim
nah i dont feel like it's possible
you can't mention paladins and not deny the connection to dungeons and dragons
i absouletly can
well, if you're an idiot who is like 12 or something sure
Hang on a second, that's a bit much. They might not be 12.
lol
xdd
Actually 12 would be against Discord TOS.
Why not?
and you're a fucking nerd who thinks everyone knows about d&d
lol
thank you
You're on the Discord for a video game. Pot, kettle, black anyone?
what you feel and what is reality are two completly different things, you cant present your opinions like facts if they are just plainly not true
Was there anything globally important said during the tabletop/console section? Missed that one.
I think it's still happening.
if you're nerd-like enough to be all hard about wanting paladins, you gotta respect your nerd elders buddy boy
only nerd around here is you with your talking about d&d man
i was coloring in my dice with a white crayon to roll ability scores for a paladin before your mom got knocked up by your drunk daddy
lol
🙂
Guys...
congrats i guess?
Yeah, you right.
Odin?
i get my fictional deities in video games
Oh yes
The paladins remained a popular subject throughout medieval French literature. Literature of the Italian Renaissance (15th and 16th centuries) introduced more fantasy elements into the legend, which later became a popular subject for operas in the Baroque music of the 16th and 17th centuries. During the 19th and early 20th centuries the term was reused outside fiction for small numbers of close military confidants serving national leaders. Modern depictions of paladins are often an individual knight-errant holy warrior or combat healer, influenced by the paladin character class that appeared in Dungeons & Dragons in 1975.
lol
yes, i don't argue that the concept of a paladin didn't exist previous to D&D. I specifically said RPG paladins. And someone with such a love of paladins is an idiot not to know their paladin history
did i ever said i love paladins
sorry, you lust paladins?
do you have less chromosomes or what
Fewer.
that is basically what i always do 😄 i am likeing melee AND magic 😄
ahahah
ahahah choke on your mfing d&d
The only "historical" paladins that you "learned of from real life" were twelve dudes who thought they could take a full army themselves "because God" and got stomped on. The next major mention of paladins was fantasy which led to dnd
i wish tos wouldnt exist
bros thought it was a game of Crusader Kings 3 and they had stacked knight effectiveness high enough
😂😂😂
bunch of nerds gotta study whole wikipedia
being 40 must be tough
loans and all uhh
last night i put a suggestion in the suggestion chat "iron ore deposits.
lolololololololololololololol, omg bro, stop givign everyone rope
(rare of course)
I wish there would be some pointers to follow on servers...Like being polite, not hating on anyone.... we could maybe call it rules and have a channel for it so people could read it 🙂
We already have those.
people disliked it
#suggestion-discussion would be the right place to talk about it
40 😂😂😂😂 it's something I remembered reading in class studying history. Was relevant
if youre talking about scrap iron in the flooded crypts i thing its silly that its the only way to get iron
It's not.
its not?
You can already use a wishbone to find iron under the surface of swamps
No, it's probably the best, but certainly not the only way.
There are other ways to gather iron also in later game.
You can even fish for it if you're really bored.
at least 6 other ways to get iron from top of my head
😱 Whaaaaaaaaaaaat 😱😱😱😱 no way!
Can dismantle structures in Mistlands as well as Ozzers drop it
the poo piles are close enough to iron ore deposits, especially when you account for there being extra just scattered around the swamp, so my guess is people just didn't see any novel addition from the suggestion
the wiki only lists scrap iron and fishing
there is iron available in later biomes.
lots in Mistlands, as @valid python said.
mmaybe the wiki just needs a little updating
weirdly there is an in-game asset for iron ore veins already in game, wonder if they just started and abandoned that--OR they'll maybe drop it in elsewhere, maybe sneak it in as a more readily available source in deep north?
No, the wiki is accurate.
do you even technically need smelters?
You need a blast furnace if you want to fight the queen without glitches, but not normal smelters
but crypts remain the best one 🙂 (the others are fishing, underground mudy piles in swamp, oozers, sealed tower cage walls+window barrs, bridges in mistlands and armor+swords in mistlands)
There are a lot of assets that are unused now. I suspect they were mostly all works in progress.
i see
Frost cave doors.
Ah, true 😄
did we get any leaks or sneak peaks during The Spill livestream?
Putrid caves sometime have iron as well!
Anyone got tip how I can level up mage easily?
despite all the alternate sources of iron later in the game, i did just say screw it and go back to the swamps and did a few crypts. doing it with stone portal available and high level gear is fast and easy
is the only fix to ride a 5 star lox to reduce its size when using CLLC ? its like the lox is stuck
there are no starred loxes...
Yea but who wants to ride a lox with zero stars when you can ride a 5 star badass 😛
you cant... and if you are using mods then this is not the channel for it
still hoping they add starred loxes
Of course i am playing with mods LoL
would sure make lox meat pie production easier and make it more consistent with other tamed animals
Bleh
Why 'of course'. Most don't.
Maybe because the question i asked was mod related.
How were we to know that?
it was stated in the question ?? thats how lol
I didn't see you mention mods anywhere.
you dont se it says when using CLLC ? i guess you need to read it again
I have no idea what 'CLLC' is.
Gotta remember, not everyone knows what CLLC even is.
you also know its not a standard thing in valheim
People have weird names for vanilla items.
Sure buddy
Given you've posted in here it's reasonable to assume you weren't talking about mods.
Some tips I use for leveling them skills:
- For Elemental magic, trap a Stone Golem in a pit and shoot it with Ice staff, it is immune to frost damage but targeting it still count as hit, getting xp from every hit
- For Blood magic, find a spawner (like the Draugr spawns in Swamps, ideally 2), raise ground around the spawner(s) so your skellies don't hit them, raise skellies, cast bubble, let skellies kill spawning Draugr, cast bubble every time one bubble breaks
then why are you bringing it into standard valheim channel?
were does it state its a standard valheim channel tho xD, it just says valheim-chat
Someone who is new to the game might not realize what CLLC is, could potentially confuse them 🙂 that’s why the channels are separated.
Does the "not for modded valheim content" really have to be added to each and every non mod channel? Cant people just think and look at what channel are availible to them?
Apparently.
Cant people like you just ignore the fact people write something in the chat ?
Love all the teasers mentioned during The Spill's live stream.
Does anyone know any of the new valheim info from the event today?
Agreed, really good stuff!
I'll probably make a video summarizing it all 😉
they dont have public tester role 😉
New video soon Jiroc? Edit: ahh I see now!
working now 🤠
What's the difference for color of fork on good items? Some have white some have yellow
red=hp, yellow=stamina, white=balanced
And blue = eitr
Anyone else think the ||"Bog Witch"|| will be another ||Dverger vendor||?
tho tahts a bit later in game 😄
It could be also similar to ||fuling shaman|| maybe
My personal guess is a ||fuling||
i think they said it will be an type of enemy that will be a trader
they said it's based on/similar to a preexisting enemy, so they'd be trolling us at least a bit if they meant "yeah, like the dverger enemies, that you already have encountered 2 merchants of"
Are there any specialized storage units later on? I know we have craft able piles for like wood and stones and bones and whatnot, but do we ever get like a fridge or a valuable chest or anything special to help organize
No, you just get bigger chests for better organisation.
Fridge as in preservation box
Magical afterlife spirit food doesn't spoil.
KINDA the personal chest, but mostly no
just straight storage space upgrades
update, finally remembered to build some bonfires at base, got a bat raid--tactic works EVEN better than I imagined it would, it's almost like the bats have a death wish and beeline straight into the bonfire!
Hahahaha, nice. Now you can rake in those free leather scraps.
😎
Will rafts and boats stay put if I leave them? Or should I dismantle and have to make another workbench later
They stay still, but mobs can target and break them
👍
yeah it really depends--i'd break them down for materials unless it was a place I had a definite intent to return to and anticipate needing a boat when I do--but they're gonna generally be safe to just leave, as long as you leave the area it will unload and mobs then won't be able to destroy it
I really hope we get more types of jerky 🙏
if this qol update brings them then praise Odin
I wouldn't call more recipes particularly QOL.
it would be nice to have higher tier balanced food, but i dont think we will get it, at least not in this update 🙂
but
jerky 🥺
I could imagine better cooking UI. the long list of things to cook is clunky. QoL would be like tabs of food types, for instance
Oh, don't get me wrong, I don't think more jerky is bad, I just don't think it comes under QOL. We will probably (hopefully?) get more with Deep North.
at a mimum, i could see tabs for Health, Stamina, Eitr, Balanced
siilar to the Upgrade tab in workstations
yeah that would be nice 🙂
That would be good. I'm not sure making it more granular than that would be beneficial.
i would do those groupings, and then reverse sort by number. Highest value recipes at the top of the list
so you go to the health tab, and first recipe is always your most health producing food
the way it's sorted now is kinda crazy
and for food that needs to be baked, just keep it in the sorted list by the value of it's cooked version
If I had to guess, they’ll probably separate the mead bases and bait from the list.
oh snap
i would do it the other way around actually, or at least having the option to switch the sorting from highest-lowest to lowest-highest
yeah. i just assume most people want to cook their best food usually. that's my only thinking on the sort highest->lowest
and yeah, a separate mead tab would work well
i always forget about bait. we have a lot of tabs in this arrangement though 🙂 i could put mead and bait together in a Misc tab
🤷
Tysm
No problem!
If Stone Golems are hard to find, you can also target your tamed Lox (if you have) because they are durable and resist frost damage. When low health, feed it and it will (probably, not always) heal fully.
||Farming Sythe|| is hype. I love diagetic solutions for QoL.
Yep, I imagine it could work like ||Butcher knife||, but can only ||target crops||
I had the same thought! Would be interesting.
Could also be interesting ||polearm weapon|| but probably doesn't work like that 🥲
I'm afraid of a building/crafting skill.
I hope the building one doesn't increase piece hp or something. Having 100 hp pieces where some have 100, others 101, others 108 and so on seems nightmarish
It's why I never liked those ideas
I don't think it'll do that.
What else could it do? Don't think it'll just be reduced stamina consumption
That remains to be seen.
I’m stumped, I have no idea what it could do. Stamina consumption rate would be weird, I agree
That's what most other skills do essentially.
Not weird, more like lame. Seems like a waste having an entire skill that just reduces stam consumption when we 1) have hildir's clothing which do that and 2) there are ways to make it a non-issue with comfort and snack food (like cloudberries).
It's not weapons, running or jumping where reduced stamina IS super important
Well that's why it wasn't ever anything I wanted, personally. What else COULD it do, as you say?
Farming I can understand increasing plant radius, reducing growth time etc but building is instanteneous.
Precisely.
Also, rather than crop growth (which would also become highly inconsistent), higher yield + reduced stamina would be much better.
It could even just be higher yield and that alone would make it useful
And mass farming
#valheim-chat message I’m just so excited to hopefully get a whole hog 😁
Higher yield would be hard to scale, when currently we have 3:1 for most crops and 1:1 for barley and flax.
Oh right.
Also there's resource slider, but they balance things based on default settings.
that awkward moment when you find out that you didn't actually quit a server, 1 hour later... xD
boy am i glad i wasn't in my base, and was sneaking in the black forest when i left my laptop. My character was still alive right where i left her! 😂
hey question, if I leave a fuling camp after clearing it without breaking anything will the fulings, crops, and loot chests respawn?
single player
No, dungeons don't respawn.
however, there will still be regular spawns of fulings around the camp
did anything cool about the game get revealed or just board game stuff?
Oh, many many things. Where've you been/
https://valheim.fandom.com/wiki/Future_content has a summary.
i really hope that witch hut thing is gonna be cool
i saw the picture and it looks really nice
Board game stuff is cool 🥲
Crafting skill could also reduce durability cost per use
I really hope crafting skill doesn’t give any sort of buff to damage
Yeah shouldn't
Only thing I can think of is crafting speed?
Maybe--I guess I am assuming build with hammer and crafting at benches (both/ either) could be meant by "crafting "
Wait. Do you actually need to beat the elder to get access to stone? Can't you get some iron outside the crypts?
In theory, but killing all Forsaken is kinda the point of the game.
Yes! But I'm bad at games and iron would be helpful. Also I wanna build a house 😂😂😂
Do you mean iron? Generally, yeah, you’ll need to defeat elder first. There are some niche things you can do to get a little iron early, but for most it’s not really worth it.
just the crafting at benches all I can think of is speed, affecting final stats of item crafted, or increasing number of items in decreasing order of what I think is likely
Oh MAYBE it can reduce mat costs for initial creation and/ or upgrades
“Skill not high enough to craft stone 2x1. Skill needed:30”
Should I buy valheim on the Xbox store or steam?
steam. not even a question.
That's definitely a question.
Steam, community mod support, easy peer to peer multi-player, should run fine on most computers ect
A strong community infrastructure is one of the most valuable things a game can have.
It is?
This does seem feasible
Which mod support?
Well, I think they mean that you can actually HAVE mods with the Steam version whereas neither the PC nor the XBox MS store versions can. Not that they actually have support.
Wait. There are realtime seasonal event in this game?
Realtime? In the sense that they're based on IRL dates, yes.
So did they talk about anything significant in the video mentioned in the announcements? Haven't had time to watch it. I noticed there's no new news posted, so I'm guessing no.
A summary, sweet. Thanks brother
That's wild. I was wondering why I hadn't seen the may pole recipe and it was like wait for midsummer
Or be stupid lucky
Yeah, they do spawn naturally, but very rare. I've been told you can change your system clock to cheat it, but I've not verified it. Seems a lot of effort.
Changing my ally date for a pole seems not worth
if you really want to, can't one of the build modes, like the hammer mode, or with commands, let you override the date limit?
Oh, sure, you can obviously just spawn them in.
like if you were THAT determined to consider messing with the system clock
ya that'd be much simpler i'd think
Will Valheim ever get steam achievements?
by 1.0 probably yes
Practically confirmed at this point.
If I’m not mistaken, it was confirmed during the dev talk today as well
i figured but i wasn't 100% certain anymore, better safe than sorry~
stupid rng. 3 chests in a fortress, only 11 flametal total, 2 gems. the gems is fine, but 11 flametal is weak
Your next fortress might have 90. I found one of those.
Just caught some copper ore, pretty neat!
So I am trying to run a valheim server for me and my wife but it looks like I either have to go through a long process of setting up a dedicated or renting a server, is this true?
This is true, are you having trouble?
I actually don’t know yet, we tend to hop around games a lot whatever the mood that may be. So renting a server kinda sucks because a lot of times that means we have to restart again unless I remember to save a backup.
Gotcha, if you’re not like super into the game, just invite her to your world 🙂
The advantage of a dedicated server is that the ‘host’ doesn’t have to be online in order to play on the world. But if that’s a non-issue, just host a world from your system
We played valheim years ago and loved it. I am sure we will love it again especially with all the recent new content.
@light moat thank you for helping out, at least we know what we need to do next 😁
Very few games make achievements during early access, because it tends to change aggressively and therefore achievements get deleted and or changed. Gets completionists all miffed.
yepp, i wasn't implying they'd come before 1.0, at that moment i just wasn't sure if my memories of them saying they'll do chievos at all were guarantees or "we might"s.
gotta be real careful not to turn the latter into the former here, especially if your name's green
Wow the shutters in this game are ass imo
They never flip the way you want them to it feels like and the fact they open 135° makes they look just bad.
Also to not have two high shutters to fit a full wall is criminal.
You can add those in suggestions 😉
Max level arctic salmon is huuuuuuge! 🤭
how you even catch one of those, feel like it would drain your stam in like 2 seconds
Abusing terrain really... try to find one on the coast and then raise/lower terrain or build to have a spot you can quickly drag it out of the water... and then run up and grab it fast.
It makes a glorious wall decoration 😎
Does pickaxe level change the damage it does to ores? Same question for axes. Or does upgrading just affect durability
It does. Look at mining dmg (chop for axed): https://valheim.fandom.com/wiki/Bronze_pickaxe
Anyone else feel like better wood should give more coal in the kiln?
Like throw in some corewood and get 2 per
So I just finished the final Hildir's quest!
The sealed tower is kind of genius. It challenges you in a way different to anything else so far. Thematically it reminded me of an old popular Minecraft mod called battle towers.
Also very lucrative! I did the Ore-drop shuffle all the way back up XD 70+ Black Iron and 10+ Iron.
I will probably do the other sealed towers for funnsies.
I have learned you cannot use flooring as a roof. Shame. Flat roof would be nice.
there are some mods that add building pieces if you really wanted to try it
Stone floors work as flat roofs
Oh do they? Great
Does anyone know about the combat tech where if you do a secondary attack with a sword and dodge roll at the same time, the roll cancels the attack but you hit the attack and instantly roll all while having i-frames? It seems they patched this recently. Now, the roll comes out first, and the attack second, but the attack no longer has the i-frames. Did they really patch this? Is my timing off? Is there anything similar to it on the current version?
Morgen gjall!
I am hyped of the bog witch update. Hope its coming soon. Nice work 👍
I believe it was said to come out in 1-2 weeks? Not 100% sure, memory Is kinda foggy
Punched to much by drakes or drank too much punch or just getting or being old?
Just wondering, why is every valheim community server I try to join 18+? A little sad for someone whos 16
Of course I respect their decision and don't complain I'm just asking here.
Punched in the head by school and having a bit too much semi-fermented wine yesterday 😄 (on top of not having great memory anyway 😂)
Its basically just to say they want mature people who will not do dumb stuff younger people usually do 🙂
They hope to get mature people if they put that age restriction but sadly enough there are enough adults that act childish compared to some teenagers.
Certainly, you have a no right now, you could get a yes.
There is nothing wrong with asking.
Never try and you’ll always fail neh?
Never try and make sure everything stays the same.
Well said. And later you'll regret you never tried when you had a chance.
Im trying to make a resin farm without making it a super long project to complete and its so frustrating.....i surrounded a spawner with wood and put fireplaces inside, but the mobs are breaking them while they run on them, why there's dmg on stepping on objects? thats kinda stupid...
pufferfish will do damage but do not take any damage 🙂
? what
touching a dropped pufferfish will apply poison, dealing damage over time. Being an item, they also don't have any durability that can be damaged. They might be a replacement for the campfire, as they do not need to be repaired
oh you mean an actual fish in-game.....understood. Well this campfire setup is a mess. I cannot stay here repairing so it will eventually break
Because else bosses could be easily cheesed, cover the whole spawning area of a boss with campfires or hearts and run circles around it so the boss is constantly in contact with the fire.
I have been to four separate swamps, and not a one has had a crypt or has been of any substantial size. I even sailed far enough to find the plains but no decent swamp
lol, wow.....there's really no way around anything in this game huh? devs are obsessed with fair play. Jeezzz...
You can use wolves or skeleton archers.
dunno the Boss mechanics and the 100million HP Pool makes it so that there is no chance for me not to feel like I cheesed the boss.
Still lots of ways to make bosses easier though and even cheese some but yeah.
I do not want to fish puffer fishes it will take ages to get a decent amount. What's another good way of making a resin farm without it being too complicated.
i just need a lot of resin
you can jsut mod your valheim
I'm trying to stay as Vanilla as possible here.
How much is a lot? You can get lots of resin by chopping trees, and that will also get you a lot of wood to.
i have a big base i need to light it up lol
that could be 1k resin xD i dont know haha just need loads
im not far in the game to unlock the no resin torches
the no resin toches need another rare item^^
Get some wolves and make a breeder close by the spawn and connect the pit under the spawner to the pit where your new wolves drop in, close the spawner pit and the wolf pup pit of with a door and once wolves have matured, have them follow you and take them to the spawner pit.
||Wisps|| aren't rare?
well I dont consider these real torches
So what no resin torch were you talking about?
the green and blue
Hmm interesting i will take note of that
you know what i was thinking? might remove a lot of troches in my base and replace them with surtling trophies. That will provde enough light srouce i think
So guck and greydwarfs eyes iirc, only guck Is somewhat "rare", and if you want a lightsource you don't need Fuel for mistlands have 2
Once you are in the mistlands and can get the dead raiser you could use that and train blood magic at the same time.
well they have iron which is rare/unconvienent too
hmm okay cool cool
Then wisp torches are the way to go 🙂
Hanging Brazier on ground level, they don't take damage but set mobs on fire.
@opal prairie Doesn't work as ingots don't slide very well unfortunatley. Even coal gets stuck a lot.
True, maybe make a drop first so it has some momentum and then make it roll down or so.
Doesn't really help, even a 10m drop does nothing and beyond that point you may aswell just have a drop chute 😄
Anyway, the idea is to go sideways and upwards etc
The main challenge is if i can make it work outside of ActiveZones
yeah if even that doesn't work a drop chute with 4 connected smelters and a gathering point a floor down might work.
Three ancient seeds
The elder requires ancients seeds that drop from brutes and when you destroy greydwarf nests.
Plus you will need his altar.
They drop from the brutes. Shamans drop bukeperries.
Already changed ^^
Okay so we find the nests?
Like the spawners?
Yeah the greydwarf spawners are called nests.
Yo, to the abomination who just destroyed my ship, i hope you rot in hell
No, you will get that abomination and make a root harnesk out of it
I typically run around swamps chopping up abominations for the mask just so I don't have to brew the anti-posion meads 🫡
The bees are happier if you use their honey to make meads
are wolves cannibals will they eat wolf meat
Nope!
thanx
The mask is handy in the swamps, but the Harnesk is useful in the Swamps, Plains and Mistlands even. Halving piercing damage before any armor is factored in is huge.
the Adze has to be near a forge not a workbench? but it's a workbench improvement? I've never noticed that before
that's a wonky consequence of it being a forge built item--i.e. you have to build it within the radius of a forge much like a number of other build pieces usually those involving metal (at least not the later metal that might require a black forge)
it doesn't otherwise interact with it--it buffs the workbench its near--but you have to put down a forge (doesn't have to stay there, just initially to build it) somewhat nearby to allow you to build it in the forge's radius
Hello. So, a few friends started Valheim last month, and I wanna start today. They are already a little strong. I would like to, in a few days, become close to them as a stronger character. Would like tips to start and get strong faster.
Saw some youtube videos but not sure if they are up-to-date. I would appreaciate if a experienced player tell me great start tips like: what to gather, what itens to buy, how can I have fast as possible a shield for parry, fast a possible good armor that is not expensive, best way to create arrows fast too. This is it, I guess.
All shields have the same speed, and anything except tower shields can parry. Don't worry too much about buying anything except the megingjord
(<-this)from Haldor.
Grind my friend. Takes several hours to explore and level up skills. My advice, don’t follow them around until you have catch up.. @mossy knot
You could ask your friends to make some appropriate equipment so you can be at the same point of progression as them, or use some of their older equipment as it should be good enough
Would like to know where in The First map should I Go, How to create The base faster for more bonus stuff too
There aren't any specific points on the map to go to except for bosses when you're ready for them. There are some places such as traders you'll want to visit, but the only way to find them is to randomly discover them when exploring.
@mossy knot I also don’t recommend going in their bases and buildings because you will unlock things in the game that you haven’t discovered yet by simply learning as you explore the world.
If you want to greatly speed up the early game, avoid building for a while, craft your first weapons on the go as you gather ingredients, kill animals, explore the map, find beehives in old houses and only start getting established when you get close to a black forest
Your "power" in Valheim is very much tied to your food, and your crafting stations. Skills are just a nice bonus that build up over time. You can speedrun to their "level" by them giving you appropriate food, gear and letting you live with them, but you won't necessarily have the experience to be able to use those tools as efficiently.
There's not really the same concept of power leveling in Valheim since there isn't anything specifically gated by any kind of levels or skills.
Yep. Valheim is basically Pacman with better graphics. 😛
It's like Factorio + Pacman. Gotta keep the food supply rolling 😉
I live a pretty nomadic existence early game and just build structures as-needed.
So I was right about potions, eh?
Wise man
I wouldn't go that far but it's definitely been a working strategy for me hahaha
Is the kiln the only method for coal? Or is there a way to mine it? Other than burning food obviously
You need more?
Kill sertlings in the swamps. Sacrifice trash to Thor. Leave out unprotected wooden structures in Ashlands. Did I miss any?
I THINK you still just need to have fire tick world modifier setting turned on (off by default) and you can burn 50 wood stacks to turn tem into 50 coal?
Enable the burny stuff setting.
not sure how best to set it on fire--dunno if just placing a campfire works--without staff of embers
maybe, fire arrows?
best way without doing that before ashlands besides kilns probs is digging out the surtling spawn fire geyser so they die almost immediately on spawn to the water damage then you can collect the coal drops
How much coal do you get when your base burns down?
With fire hazard when I want coal I just build a wood pile overlapping a fire very slightly and it will catch on fire without extinguishing the fire
oh didn't know that would work, that's probably simplest
the equivalent of the wood i think
Worst way to get coal is from portals turning into 2 cores, 10 eyes and 20 coal. Especially in areas where you can't get fine wood
That sounds like a fast way to come back to no house
Right? I've not yet tried it myself, but I can't imagine it's fun early game (before you can build with stone).
Fire doesn't really spread from one burning piece to another and it won't happen when you are not there. If something catch on fire, you will hear it and have plenty of time to react before even one piece burn by either repairing it untill the fire stop or destroying it and rebuilding it
Yeah, I was kind of being tongue-in-cheek there. I'd never turn that setting on just to avoid using the kiln.
The best part of fire hazard is how cool and realist it makes the game look when using fire arrows or fighting enemies that uses fire
as it catch the grass and trees on fire and make the fights look epic
I might try it someday when I replay, so any builds I make will already have fire safety built into them.
A meter clearance between a fire and any wood is sufficient to not run into problems, biggest danger to your base is probably yourself with arrows and eventually surtling raids
But in any case just destroying the pieces on fire will stop the fire
How does it work with sconces. Can they set stuff on fire?
i don't THINK so--i think the light sources are all "non fire"
No, standing torches cannot set anything on fire either
as opposed to, say, braziers
Well, that's good. I still suspect my hearths would be too close to their surrounding floors. I'll live without it in this world. 🙂
Oh, braziers. That I have hanging from wooden beams. Yes, this setting might be a bad idea right now.
I probably need better armor at this point, but it's so heavy 😭
Do you mean the movespeed reduction or actual item weight?
Actual weight
I'm always running out of weight limit cuz I'm always farming ores and woods
if you haven't already stumbled across this, you can buy a belt that increases carry weight 150 at the trader Haldor @light drift
or a cart
Or a foward base :>
thats what i do!
need to make 4th minibase in this random island...
quite relaxing doing transport as im done with farming, i load stuff up on my ship/cart then head to my mini base that i created
I love that you can stack the stacks of bones. I stacked 2 stacks and put a Jack-o-Turnip ontop
I was just about to ask is there a way to track down haldor
I knew about the belt, but can't find the bitch
sail around islands that you see have black forest, or try to look around elder, sometimes he is somewhat close to him
yeah there's actually not any good way in game lol
you just kinda have to know where to expect them to spawn, and sail around, hoping
GOOD news is, they will show up as an icon on your map PRETTY far away (like well into unrevealed fog of war) so you GENERALLY will be able to find them with just sailing coasts method (until the icon pops up) PROBLEM is still that's a lot of valheim world surface area to cover before randomly bumping into one--at least it's just, IIRC, black forest only for haldor, meadows for hildir, so narrows search area considerably
you dont have portal there?
just try to do a spiral search out from starting area on your boat.
I haven't even revealed that area my guy. I'm taking my time with home building and exploring for my first time playing
HOLY SHIT, didnt realize the infested mines would have that many resources in them lmao
may you find many black cores easily. that's the important one
Oooooh, then take your time 😄
Let's say a guy did something dumb like deconstructing one side of a portal without notating the name of said portal
Late game Ashlands provides coal when ash trees catch fire.
The other way to cheese coal would be in the swamps at the Fire Pits where the Surtlings spawn at. Mine around the fire pit and you will get coal when they instantly die spawning in the water. Spawn rate is 3 every 2-3 minutes.
I'm on my way now. But it got real dark while boating so now I'm vibing in the ocean waiting for light
Is there a way to list all the portals in a world? I found some python on a reddit post that I thinkc an work but if there's a built-in way I'd prefer to do that
So fill the space with water?
i think you can just drop a stack of 50 wood in ashlands, and burn it with a fire, and BAM, you have 50 coal
use a hoe to make the surrounding water level with the spawner
Pickaxe ⛏️ around it which crates water because you’re in the swamps.
pickaxe or hoe around it, yeah. and then set up a safe AFK spot near it. (what i did). afk for a couple hours, come back, collect cores and coal 🙂
found 9 already
you're golden! i think 15 is the magic number. but once you have 5 you can get making stuff
bet
also im getting so much fucking royal jelly and carapace shit lol. idk what ima do with it all
royal jelly is a much more limited resource than crapace.
Want to pick a large swamp area where you find multiple Surtling spawn points and have a portal colocated in the center of them all or nearby away and from mobs for protection. Then run to each and keep circulating them until you’ve collected enough.
and you'll want to save all royal jelly
i figured. and i feel like im getting more royal jelly than i am carapace tho. maybe its just rn since ive barely started getting both and i found a dungeon right away so im getting more jelly atm
carapace, being dropped by seekers, is everywhere in mistlands. royal jelly only has 2 sources. and generally almost always only in a mine
Royal jelly is used in recipes in Ashlands potions.
and food in mistlands
if you're a mage or want to be, you'll be glad you got the jelly
Oh does water just fill in holes in the swamp
well, sort of
water will appear anywhere you did low enough to be beneath the 'water line'
the way swamps spawn basically puts the whole terrain low elevation, right at or very near the water line
so anywhere you did will basically turn into a big pool of water pretty quick
the point people are getting at with surtlings specifically is that there are these fire geysers throughout some swamps
Correct.
Royal jelly actually respawns inside the mines
that surtlins spawn around, and they die in water very rapidly, so the 'pro strat' to quickly and easily turn these areas into surtling (core & surtling wood, and occasional trophy) farms, is to just dig
yes, royal jelly and seekers respawn in mines. it's like the only respawning in a dungeon that i'm aware of
If you dig enough, yes it should start filling up.
it's a more limited resource, but not finite.
dig all around the fire geyser in a decent radius, not even necessarily so deep you have to swim, just enough to cover all the places the surtlings can spawn with water--they'll periodically spawn, die immediately to water, and drop their drops to be collected
i have a portal near a mine for whenver i want to grab some more jelly
Seekers do? I knew about jelly, but have tons so never went back to old mines, but easy carapace would be a good reason.
yeah, seekers do too. i guess they wanted some risk to going back for more jelly.
i've gone back to a mine once, and got jelly and dealt with some seekers
it didn't feel like a fresh mine amount of seekers however
oh yeah, ticks too. i forgot. and that's more useful. yum blood clots
Bog witch when
that's FAQ questions #5 now
finally cleared out the mine, it was irritating cause there was a soldier guarding the top of a spiral staircase that i had to climb and any time i got near it alerted it and it knocked me off the staircase lmfao
did you find the soldier's weak spot?
That's better than going down a staircase and coming face to face with a 2-star seeker with no room to escape.
ya its behind them. but i honestly just brute force it, i do enough that i can stagger them after 2 hits so whether its one or 5 i just swing until theyre staggered and then i keep swinging lmao. i just hit em from behind 😏 when im tryna be sneaky
im also running high armor + harnesk in the dungeon so i dont get the movement speed so it takes extra stam to get behind them, so i dont bother with it
i've been impressed by how speedrunners have killed soldiers with crappy spears. they've got good timing to jump behind them and hit
still takes forever of course
at this point i just parry and brute force it
‘crappy spears’?
i don't mean spears are crappy. i mean, they are using like flint spears or not much better. 🙂
in the mistlands, with generally "crappy" equipment for that biome
and no wisplights. honestly i suck at this game. 🙂
i saw a dude do a modded world where it was just mistlands
yeah, i watched that video too
and he legit killed seekers with his bare hands lmao
that was honestly ridiculous lol
ya fr
he did show how long it took however.
I've been leveling unarmed all wrong.
Seeker soldier I wait for the attack where they hit both side, parry it from the side, which gives me plenty of time to get behind him and use the sword special attack hitting him for about 1000 damage
9 in one mine is extremely lucky!
i do have inreased drop rate.
also wtf my refinery is destroying my house lmfao
guess ima have to put it outside
Iron cage and black marble pieces won’t be damaged
does it have the ability to shoot through the holes in the iron cage? or are the openings just asthetic
Nothing can go through the holes, including smoke. Enemies cant see you through them either I think.
It doesn't I usually surround 1 or 2 of them with marble 4m high, put an iron gate to get in and then have iron bars on the top. The height is perfect so that you can add soft tissues as the grinder is the only part that sticks out while all the eitr spark gets blocked
i used raised earth and some marble walls. it's ugly, but it works
terrible design decision imo
funnily enough, that's what my wife says about me: "it's ugly, but it works"
for cages not able to let smoke to pass thru or give enemies a clear line of sight
sounds good. i just have it in my basement rn and it was damaging the floor tiles for the floor above it lol. i was like nah my whole house is boutta collapse 😂
I did so much damage to my house during the mistland public test
iron cage is probably the coolest, since you can see the action going on
Dont worry I add windows, make it look good
i just want it functional rn, idc about looks atm
I built a cellar made of black marble under my mead hall, it is nice.
you could also just build it in a deep pit lol
ya on my next build that ima be making out of black marble, ima dig out an actual basement below ground and then build everything up around it
i guess since i don't have much to do until deep north, i could tackle a big main house rebuild, with a nicer forge area
Well, we'll have new content in a few weeks.
i was about to ask what the point of the arbalest was cause the carapace arrows do 72 base dmg, the same dmg as the bolts.. then i realized the arbalest did 200 base dmg 😂
Different reload time though but for the initial sneak hit the difference between arbalest and bows is huge
@keen cliff #building-screenshots message here’s my black marble eityr workshop, inspired from another build I saw here somewhere lol
The stairway with the treasure chest leads up to the top part of the refinery, accessible by an Irongate
Quite nice!
I have pretty simple cellar for my 3 eitr refineries 🥲
very nice!
i just have one refinery in my compound, seperate from anything. and my forges are outside, and my workbench is inside. it's all kinda a mess. i like the idea of create a dedicated building for forges/table/workbench though
granted, at this point, i don't need the refinery anymore. i made enough refined eitr to make everything
i think i did the math for everything + max levels
Wait. Mesh doesn't allow smoke? Or line of sight?
No, it has solid collision.
Then I agree. Terrible decision lmao. They look cool though
Makes calculations MUCH easier = higher FPS.
What did they talk about in the spill this morning
shouldnt it be simple to have smoke ignore cages entirely without screwing up FPS?
Sure, they could ignore it, or they could block it. Either way people would still find ways to pick faults
pointing out obvious issues is not picking faults
theres a silver lining: you could trap a skeleton in a small hanging cage as a decoration and since it cant see you it wont break free
I wonder who would actually complain about smoke passing through cages. Such silly arguments lmao
Now I KNOW you're not new here...
a year here, no one can say anything even slightly negative any criticism without getting shut down lol
ashlands performance is sometimes not good. 🤷
i think a lot of people express stupid opinions though. 🙂
or, just think their opinion is correct, even if people disagree. note the word opinion.
and also some people just come to whine and complain and are SHOCKED when everyone doesn't agree with them
honestly the same as any other servers, you either agree with the devs or they label your opinions as stupid
the devs don't label anyone here
i mean the members
it's other players who think other players are stupid lol
Fortunately it's nothing like that here.
yeah, that's like an opinion. anyone can have one.
Opinion - onion flavoured pi
i got about 25 stacks of onions with nothing to do with them. bring on the feasts
So people are not allowed to disagree with you and should not accept/like/agree with things you (and specifically you) dislike?
Morning everyone! Returning player (has been almost 2 years since I last played properly). Loving starting fresh and reexperiencing the game, just defeated Eikthyr and on to the Black Forest once more!
what im saying that whenever someone tries to point out a flaw or give feedback on anything certain people instantly shut them down, almost every time, its like you're only allowed to praise every decision the devs make
I don't think there's a single player that does that.
Depending on how beside, that potentially opens up some boss cheesing possibilities, since his bubble dispels aggro.
Not that close. But same island like blob suggested
Ah, So only figuratively beside the elder. 😉
Yall make more than one base? Or do you just make baby shacks by tp points. A bed, a fire and the portal
Longhouse in meadows, large mountain cabin in mountain, castle in plains, "mage" tower in mistlands. Someday, a grausten retirement cottage somewhere.
Those are the major ones. Several little ones (portal points or hubs) dotted around on major islands like the boss islands.
I'm sure lots of players are the baby shack variety, though.
I have one major base where I keep all my stuff basically. I have outposts in other biomes to accommodate biome specific needs.
I don't wanna make a bajillion bases, so I'm thinking just a basic shack 😂😂
Just expand as you need more storage or crafting space.
two types of players in Valheim.
A) The Main mega base players, typically in the Meadows
&
B) The smaller FOB base players, building a moderate size base in all biomes
I know but if you leave a portal in the middle of nowhere it's gonna get busted
Most of my forward bases are just a 4x4 or 5x5 stake wall square with a portal, workbench, and a couple of chests inside.
Optionally throw some roof on if there are flying enemies in the biome.
in Black forest, just build a quick stake wall around it. greydwarfs are'nt gonna break down stakewalls
Swamps: build the portal on top of swamp crypts
Mountains, chair glitch into rocks and youll have an indestructible "base"
Plains, chair glitch into the rocks
just keep the stone golems away from it since theyre gonna be the only thing capable of breaking terrain rocks in the mountains, but with workbenches they shouldnt be able to spawn near
Will trolls not spawn and get angry at the portal in black forest?
Or greydrawves bust down a door?
Idk how aggressive stuff gets to bust up player stuff. Like idk if dwarves would bust a door to get at a portsl
They can when you're around. Not when the area's not loaded.
So basically you just need enough defense to give you time to react.
For greydwarves, greylings and boars. Not really for anything else.
wait wait wait. were getting a scythe for crops?
I would love an upgraded Cultivator.
Like maybe perhaps an Iron cultiavator for 3x3 planting, and Black Metal for 5x5 planting
i just want a combat scythe :>
Can you ever make a drawbridge?
not a working one, but you can make a bridge that looks like one
How does one find motivation to sail 30 minutes, when they die and forgot to put down a portal.
feel the need to go back and aquire your gear
it always feels really bad when you come back, then the dread hits you again as you realize you died 30 min away and have to go sail first thing when you get back on
i try to always end my day with all my gear, and in my house, keeps me motivated in the long run to keep playing
since i know no matter what, when i get on its a fresh start from a familiar location
how does healing work in this game?
It's a rough feeling, but sometimes ya just gotta get the most available shit and trudge back out there. I died after a 15 minute kharve trek with the wind in my favor and had to get back there by raft with the wind against me. That took a solid 30 minutes of me watching TV and making sure I was headed in the right general direction.
Slowly based on the foods in your system as far as I can tell. Apparently there's a mead that heals you aggressively, but I ain't there yet
you also heal like 5x as fast if you are near a fire and getting the "resting" buff
why the fuck everytime i place a floor it automattically breaks?
If it is off the ground it needs support.
like what?
When you move the crosshair over a build piece when holding a hammer, it will change colour depending on how supported it is. If it’s red, nothing can be built off it. You could use walls or pillars to support it.

Hello
There.
i need help in monster slaying ? who is with me ?
why doesnt my progress savee
i lost a whole hour of progress i did like 2 hildir silver chests
PC, mac or xbox?
Cloud or physical save?
Game gets saved to your pc, if so check that the map to save to hasn't changed to read only and that that disk isn't full.
You can try switching to cloud save and back again, sometimes fixes the issues or try cloud saving.
If it is on cloud saving you should check your network connection.
Though this topic should go to #valheim-help it might get more traction there.
painful
Which bosses?
Silver chest is from the mountain miniboss Geirrhafa 🙂
Hi, I am complete beginner to Valheim. So would you please give me some tips for start?
pick up everything you can and try to craft all the stuff you can at least once 🙂 hammer is your dearest friend so take care of it
Play the game without knowing anything in advance it will be the most fun.
Listen to the bird.
If you really do get stuck then come ask questions.
Listen to the bird!
also listen to any tips the raven has for you~
(not this one)
if you missed one, you can look at it again in the compendium (that raven icon in the rop right of your inventory)
Thank you guys 😄
Is there a way to play with mods on a dedicated server? My friend is on xbox and i'm on PC.

On dedicated server? Yes. On xbox? No.
This what?
they probably want to know the same thing?
Yes.
So no way to make a dedicated server with mods with the server being playable for xbox and PC?
not really sure about that, i think client sided mods could be possible, but as someone that doesent use mods or xbox i am really not sure
As there are no mods for Xbox I'd be inclined to say no.
I think its possible with serverside-only mods, but there are few of those and they are limited in what they can do.
are you placing it on the ground? And what stability does it have.
Wait i only need one 2* wolf to get a 2* cub lets goo
yep 🙂
@plush umbraNo
isnt it weird he spawned on starter island
no you are lucky to find him on the starter island
And like the island is huge
idk how big starter islands get
its good build a portal in a smal hut next to him 😉
it depends on the seed haw its generated
Literally all shapes and sizes 😄
So like is there a record of the biggest starter island? So i can compare
there might have been before january in #1202740443352137838 not really sure, but i dont think now there is anything since most channels were wiped
Hope the qestion is good here . I folow the stream from The Spill thei sed that the Bog Witch update is in a few weeks . After thows few weeks it wil hit the PTB or the live game ? Ty in advance
This island is too big for my comfort 😭
i am pretty sure they meant ptb 🙂
Always PTB first, yes
@plush umbrain my opinion its beter to have a bit biger starter island for more resorces That is my opinion
😭
ty for the anser @merry pebble @odd helm
Ma'am when does someone gets privilages of sending images in the valheim-chat?
Oh nobody but staff can~
If you want to send game screenshots we have #screenshots, if it's related to an issue you're having any of the help channels should be able to upload media, otherwise #memes-and-clips or #fanart
Aww such a shame
Helps to keep the server organized
Fair enough.
Think I'm gonna challenge my second forsaken one today, wish me luck people!
How do you join dedicated servers when they all have passwords I play on Xbox and me and my friends wanna be able to play when the host is offline
Ideally your group would host their own dedicated server that y'all know the password for, but otherwise you can find one in #1024264966712340510 that the host agrees to have y'all in
Man wtf the starter island i am in is near to a swamp aswell
Yeah next to the starter island it has a swamp greydwarfs are fighting swamp creatures rn LOL
Folks i have a seed where starter island has swamp and mountains 😭
That’s not too uncommon!
Mountains appear closer to the centre, but swamps on the starter island are rare
island is huge tho
I wanna send a pic i think this is the most huge i ever got
Yeah i'd prefer that too but i think ill use this seed when my bf finally gets the game -w-
Post it in screenshots 👍
I think i did cooldown is alot tho.
2 minutes left i shall send the end version of it.
Ahh gotcha, I see it now. Very nice, bonus points for Haldor!
Here ill send i js slay a troll
I can't make a comment because i played till swamps
It’s one of my favourite biomes, the enemy variety is huge! (I judge a biome almost entirely from combat btw)
I find Ashlands to be a really enjoyable experience, as well as very challenging. The music is amazing, gear is super diverse and great. Charred fortresses are little meh, that’s my only complaint really.
The landscape is really good looking as well
It’s really not that bad. The biome is just more combat focused than the others. The friendly fire really helps for clearing large groups.
@plush umbrai think that you have 2 islands that are close to ech other and you took a swim on the second one with out noticing from wath i saw from the picture
I didn't swim they do connect
There’s a lot of enemies, but I think if they toned it down further it would really detract from the biome.
Don’t go out at night 👀
gulp
Easy ≠ superb
Half of the enemies would die before you do anything and there would be less aggro on you
It’s the second to last biome, it’s supposed to be hard
I haven’t played as mage at all, so I can’t really say much on that. I do find that traveling slowly and remaining calm helps a lot. Fortresses can be overwhelming, so it’s extremely important that 1) you’re well prepared, and 2) you have a plan of attack
Are you using the Bonemass power? It’s extremely good for taking arrows!
Root harnesk will work too, if you don’t want to rely on a five minute power for everything
Even a mage will benefit from that
Yes, but only if they take a hit with a broken bubble
Blob is always one step ahead of me 😂
Once you break the door down, don’t be afraid to step out and kite the enemies.
Have you discovered jump attacking? By attacking off the ground, you can keep full movement. It’s great for recasting your shield in an otherwise dangerous position, and also for hitting enemies with a melee attack before they can even try hitting you.
If you don’t like it to be hard, change world modifiers
You can dodge the blow with right timing, avoiding all damage
If that’s not abusing them, what is?
You must have played pre nerf to find it that hard.
WE'RE toxic?
I will not DM a stranger, no.
Maybe let’s put it to rest, I feel we’re all just trying to help you 🙂
Noone has dog piled you either.
The difficulty is about perfect in Ashlands now, after the tweaks.
I think it’s important to remember that souls games and Valheim play very differently. In Souls games, you can beat the final boss level 1 with a club- with an insane amount of skill. In Valheim, you can’t really do that. In Valheim, preparation is like 80% of the fight. Having the right food, the right mead, etc
This, you CANNOT rush into Valheim.
Not when you tune the diff to very hard
Presumably they haven't.
Had a mod that broke the console last night
(Passive enemies work just as well if you need to retrieve a corpse)
Nah, straightened it out
Valheim is very far removed from Dark Souls.
A lot fewer enemies, a lot stronger enemies
I don’t mean this as an attack, but maybe mage isn’t your playstyle? Perhaps try a different approach?
Mistlands is tough environmentally, but the mobs are OK.
Mistlands is good because I can jump over almost every enemy there
Try the feather cape, then jumping for your shield (and jump attacks in general) will work much better
It's been a minute since I've actively played in Ashlands but EEH or balanced was a mainstay with me for mage, not as much eitr upfront for some of the expensive staves but more than enough to survive and kite around
If I come across a starred Askvin, I really sit back and think about my actions. If I encounter a 2-star, I break down and cry
2-star asksvins only spawn at night
The knockback of an upgraded ember staff is such a bonus too, almost always prefer it over even the newer staves
Asksvins mostly aren’t too bad but the bite hitbox is much taller than it looks
Yeah I know, shouldn’t really be out at night, but sometimes (rarely) I get caught in it lol
I’ve only encountered two 2-star Asksvins; tamed one (found it intentionally) and the other one killed me lol
In my first time in Ashlands I wanted to tame 2 star Asksvin and woah it took so many nights before I encountered one (around 15ish)
