Like all trophies, you can use it for balista targeting. I think it hits the warriors and archers if you do, though that was in PTB so I am not sure about how it functions in Live.

It's best against large targets, and it does a ton of damage when it does hit. Gjall are one of the most useful things to target with them in a Mistlands base. I think the biggest thing I'd like is a switch to just wholesale turn it on and off instead of having to use a trophy like a switch.

I like the general idea that you have to kill something independently and get a trophy in order to be able to specifically target it. But yeah, it would be nice to load up multiple trophies and cycle through them.

Dude you hardly need a wall of ballistas and if it was bugs instead of trolls then they wouldn't even target them. Bye bye ballistas. Oh and the terrible range, got them on my mountain castle for the drakes but they have to be everywhere to have a chance at enough coverage

Literally the only reason I would see enemies destroying ballistas is if you deliberately placed them in their attack range... For whatever reason.

I have mine in positions enemies can't reach easily so ballistas usually sneak attack them without me doing anything. They also don't aggro on the ballistas easily because of that

I already had wolves for that so I don't use them. I've never felt the need for them in mistlands otherwise because gjalls just seem to leave me alone.

Same in my plains farms, back when I did farm. Area mobs just stabilized at creature limits far from base, and never bother me.

But are you going to wait all the way until mistlands to implement base defense? I stick to meadows for my main base just because of laziness, so the wolves feed themselves and never need maintenance.

And then you have the remaining complication of transporting ballista materials before stone portals. That's variable with wolves, depending on whether you have a mountain on your starting island.

You're using it wrong then. It's not for shooting bats, it's for shooting big slow targets. It does great against something like lox, fuling berserkers, seekers soldiers, Gjall, etc.

Also works well against smaller enemies if paired with the beartraps to immobilize them, and if you shoot at a target with a frost staff it gives the ballistas a real easy time of hitting them

I set up like 8 ballistas targetting fuling berserkers, and then whenever I got a fuling raid I'd go down and ice staff or parry the berserkers and they'd just instadie. Nice lil totem farm because I was on max raid rate. Got like 2-3 or so totems per raid. Coulda prob gotten much more if I set it up at the edge of the raid radius, and just went into the raid area to spawn the berserkers and then walked out to pause the raid timer until I had killed the berserkers

Ashland fortress spikes auto-kill bat raids. It should also be doable with Ashwood spikes (since you can place them on buildings) but i haven't yet tested that.

OMG I never thought of using traps and ballista combo like that. I only have them currently at my mistlands converted dvegrr tower and they suck cose of mist obscuring their view. Think it would work well in Ashlands yea. You can trap Morgen too, although not while they're rolling. I'm excited to set up a well fortified base without using cheesy indestructable walls and pits

I know the spikes can stagger and bounce an enemy back as well, and that can often keep them in target for a ballista. Or draw the enemy attention as they attack the spikes which keeps them still.

Yeah, I often use the original corewood/wood spikes since they're easily renewable vs the dvergr ones. That doesn't really apply in the Ashes though... do the spikes burn up? I haven't tested.

The Stone Portal does not require ground. But its bounding box is kind of janky. It does need stone or iron support, so it can't be on a wood floor above ground.

To place it, lay down a couple wood floors, stacked on top of the surface you want to place the portal on.

Basically, you need to get it a little higher to be able to place it on the stone floor, because the bounding box doesn't work well

I went to ashlands with carapace armor and I died, you run out of stamina very quick, so I went with the eitr set, there´s my advice

Yea mage tends to be the easiest/strongest playstyle. Just go slow so you don't aggro too many enemies at once, especially because they're hard to run from. Set up little portal outposts as you go along

crossbow is also good for sneak attacking enemies at range

yea that's gonna be rough. Most the enemies are resistant to pierce and they come in hordes so having some AoE is useful

I built an terrain wall for base. You can build double wall to be safe from lava blob explosions with some space in between them. Finally what I learned and was useful is that sneak is quite useful. You can jump on top of those big rocks, start sneaking and after some time mobs will deaggro that can't see you

General question about world generation, is it normal to see worlds with tons of small islands? My first world felt like it had many large landmasses/supercontinents, but I'm coming back after a long break and looking for a solid new seed to explore.

In general, submerged landmasses are not considered islands. Additionally if you can walk through water to reach a landmass, it's likely not a separate island but rather part of the existing mainland. Im not sure if there's an exact minimum distance between landmasses to be considered a separate island, maybe it's in the wiki.

The armor values will get insane if you use potions and enchanting, you can look at a guide on yt its pretty easy

One of the best strategies to level up smithing which i do in every run is save all the iron ore until you get the transmute ore spell from one of the bandit caves close to whiterun, this spell turns all iron ores into silver and silver into gold. use the gold to make gold rings which are cheap and level up your smithing a ton

and for enchanting i dont really grind it as hard as smithing i play the game normally and i usually reach 70-80 before i start to grind for 100

I do this by disenchanting items and refilling my enchanted weapons

Either you got extreemly unlucky with RNG or you explored the area before Ashland's official release. If you did explore it would be a huge empty area(though it should still have land, just no enemies if memory serves).

if you have something built in/very close to Ashlands, most likely yes. the terrain changed drastically from what it was originally (along with a small circle covering the whole world touching the outermost edges of Mistlands).

Im not attacking nor taking either side of the battle between artists and ai but id take an art or 3d model of some structure as reference model any day, that i can base my building on in valheim rather than ai generated picture of some nonsensical building with unimaginable awful and depressing proportions/visuals, context or everything literally

But that's only if you tried to replicate the structure to perfection which is almost impossible in many cases. Valheim might have lots of options but they're not infinite and there is so much you can do (without mods)

The idea should be to build something based on the structure rather than trying to 1:1 mimick it

• Enable XMP / EXPO
• Run Vulkan
• Energy setting on your PC (specificly laptops)
• Adjust ingame settings (like the new active points lights / Shadows)
• Use framerate limiter / V-sync to keep your PC from just trying to make more than nessessary FPS if you don't want a warm PC)
• Disable Xbox Game Bar
• Enable Game mode in windows
• Enable Hardware-accelerate GPU shueduling
