i need to write the &
its going
0%
i think that its very slow
still 0%
ok now 44
You don't need to tell us any more until it completes 😉
We don't need step by step updates, honest
it says: 11: resource temporarily not avabile
What's the entire message?
Err:4 https://mirrors.tuna.tsinghua.edu.cn/debian-security bullseye-security InRelease
Could not wait for server fd - select (11: Resource temporarily unavailable)

?
You've got a problem with your network/connectivity to that mirror
Are you in China?
italy
Then WTF are you using a mirror in China?
china?????
.cn
idk ahah
dusun support sent it to me, they are Chinese
Time to update your mirrors
how
the first?
The first what?
the first link?
Damned if I know
?
You really need to move to using HAOS on supported hardware
yes i need home assistant
Home Assistant OS is what you need, and you have Supervised
You don't have the skills needed for that
and how can I have only home assistant without supervisor?
Buy a Green or a Pi - https://www.home-assistant.io/installation/
Or even a second hand PC
And you don't have the skills to manage it
i cant install home assitant withount supervisor?
ok
Or you need to be able to run a virtual machine on another computer that's always on
can you send me the link for home assistant os, so i change home assistant supervisor to home assistant os?
thanx
but i have no hdmi for the pc that i use for ha
i need to download it with android tool
Android tool?
I don't think that device is supported by HAOS
i bought it with preinstalled haos, but i reinstalled it
You would likely have to ask the manifacturer how they did that.
ok
What you "re"-installed though wasn't HAOS
If youre able to get a refund for your desun and get a raspberry pi then do it. Youre gonna have a much more enjoyable experience with a raspberry pi.
I'm gonna move HAOS from VM in Vmware in Windows to bare metal HAOS on the same Intel NUC. I have a Sonoff usb thingie for Zigbee and a UZB usb thingie for Z-Wave. Should backup to Google with the addon and restore after HAOS installation go smooth or do I need to do anything else first? Should the USB devices simply work without changing configs? I think I recall having to manually set stuff like port: /dev/ttyUSB0 or something. Will that be different?
Hopefully you used the /dev/serial/by-id/ paths, those don't change
/dev/ttyUSB0 can change
Otherwise, yeah, backup and restore
Maybe I should find the /dev/serial/by-id/ and change now before moving it then
Could I just change that ttyUSB0 to this I found in system - hardware ? /dev/serial/by-id/usb-ITead_Sonoff_Zigbee_3.0_USB_Dongle_Plus_dagasgasgasgasdasgasgasgags7-if00-port0
I'll try 😛
Zigbee buttons still work. Guess that worked. 🙂
Hi , does anyone have experience with virtualbox and HA ? I'm having issue with some USB that are disconnecting once in a while (more or less one time a day
this is doing it for my ZBT-1 and my Z-Station
That's probably Windows related
Well... it could be VBox being shit, again, but yeah... not likely this time
I know some VBox users have had success spinning up a new Vm and moving their virtual disk to it, but that's speculative based on forum posts. I would guess that far more folks have VBox problems than have it running, if forum posts are any indication
so far this is the only issue I have , I read also that putting one processor only is better than more
I'll see if this USB suspend settings do the tricks
hopefully
hi does any one know if its normal on the preparing home assistant screen it stops on the [supervisor.resolution.fixup] System autofix complete
It can, yes. You want to wait and try refreshing the page once in a while
Hello, I have a question. I have a sgc01 smart wifi (its application is Xhome), don't you know how to use the Home assistant?
Hello, I have a question. I have a sgc01
Hi, I’m not able to access Home Assistant from Microsoft Edge. I’m using VirtualBox. Since I’m using an administrator computer without internet, I downloaded the .vbi file on my personal computer and powered it up on my navigator, which works perfectly. Then, I cloned this VM, zip it and put it on a USB key to transfer it to the administrator computer. I “add” a new VM on VirtualBox with the .vbox file. When I powered it up, it worked. But it has no IPv4 since I don’t have a DHCP server. So I manually add an IP with network update –ipv4-method static –ipv4-gateway 192.168.0.200 –ipv4-address 102.168.0.207. I checked that my PC is in the same network with ipconfig on cmd, it has the ip 192.168.0.203. But when I try to access Home Assistant on Microsoft Edge with 192.168.0.207:8123 it doesn’t work, it says : “Hmmm can’t reach this page 192.168.0.207 too long to respond”. If someone has an idea of what’s my problem and how to fix it, it would really help me, I have no idea left 😩
Can you ping the HA IP from the PC?
Did you remember to set a netmask for both computers?
No I can't... "host unreachable"
Did you remember to set a netmask for both computers?
For my VM I put /24, my administrator computer has the subnet mask 255.255.255.0 and my personal computer I don't really know but I think it has the same. I don't know if you are speaking about that
@weak sand When using Discord's Reply feature it defaults to pinging the person you reply to, which can get frustrating for the target. Use Shift + click on the Reply option, or click @ ON to @ OFF to stop this - on the right side of the compose bar.
You have to change this every time (thank the Discord devs for that).
Can the PC or the VM ping themselves?
how can i ping with HA OS ?
Enter login and you have a shell where you can run ping.
ok thx, so the PC and the vm are able to ping themselves "is alive"
Are they connected via network cables or WiFi?
My personal computer and the administrator are not connected to each other. But I might have found the problem, I’ll tell you 🥰
I just installed HAOS bare metal and try to restore from backup. When I log in the dashboard says cannot read properties of undefined (reading 'includes'). Logs just say Found incompatible HTTP option 'server_host'. Watchdog feature disabled.
Ideas?
To check your configuration use the command for your install method:
Run that, fix the problems
Successful config (partial) it said
hi guys, my supervisor is not healthy, how can i fix it from ssh?
thats it: system is not healthy - supervisor
Great, so what else did it say 😉
You're still running that broken Supervised install from the other day?
yes, but i re-flashed it
Great, so why is it unhealthy now?
idk
I have always used the supervisor via ssh, now it gives me this error that I don't know what it is
if you want i can give you the error that it gives me when i try to update core/supervisor/install extension
The system tells you why it's unhealthy
where?
If you've forgotten how go and and re-read the posts from the other day
You can search for your own posts
thats the errror
And that's not what we're asking for
However, I'm gonna give up on this until you've moved to HAOS
It mentioned my unavailable_sensors.yaml from packages so I disabled that and restarted HA. Now it mentioned media_dirs of my Synology NAS (which is probably not mounted yet). Removing those seems to have fixed things. It's starting normally at least.
and how can i move to haos without an hdmi in the micro pc^
?
there is a method?
But now I wonder... should I restore something from backup or should everything be back now that I fixed the media dirs?
Yes, buy supported hardware, as we discussed before
That should be you all sorted
Thanks! 🙂
my dusun can support haos, you just need to tell me how to install it without an hdmi port
please
Ask the manufacturer
he give me the supervisor
They'll need to tell you what image to flash, and how to flash it
Then probably it doesn't support HAOS
yes, it can
(and by probably I mean that there's a snowball's chance in hell that it does)
Great, so ... you say it does. Where's the proof?
The manufacturer flashed Debian (or some derivative)
All they're giving you is Debian
No HAOS
they've no doubt supplied debian with supervised HA
Yup
not HAOS
maybe i need to change the docker, as you know, they are .cn
can you send the link for checking the problem?
Checking what problem?
@warped nimbus https://www.home-assistant.io/installation/ choose one of these methods, the easier the better. With that hardware, your best bet is Home Assistant Container
Honestly, just buy a Green, or a second hand mini PC
I expect you'll struggle with Container/Docker too, based off of the chat so far
for you, for the dusun, which should i do?
thats it
Install Debian, follow the docs above, and use a compose file rather than docker run
do you know how to use linux at all?
Based off the chat so far... no, not at all
I'm going to lunch now
You should read yesterday's chat
enjoy your lunch
thanx
so then i install this
from the ssh
Re-install Debian first
ok
i need to re-flash it so
but i dont have debian, i have the file for supervisor
i need the file for debianOS
Yes 😉
can you send me?
looks like the whole purpose of that board is to run debian with supervised home assistant, I doubt there is a plain debian image available for it that doesn't include the home assistant parts
they really should've just built HAOS for it and save themselves and their users big headaches
check it out, here it says they have HAOS for it: https://www.dusuniot.com/product-specification/dsgw-210-ha-home-assistant-gateway/
but they don't
lol.
The DSGW-210-HA is pre-installed with the Home Assistant Supervised
And probably cost more than supported hardware would have
how can i uninstall supervisor?
probably i sell my fucking dusun and i buy a green, it has all the protocols?
like zigbee etc.
I'd recommend a general purpose PC like a (U)SFF/Tower or Mini PC.
No, it doesn't. It needs to be equipped with according USB dongles
and where can i buy the dongles?
That greatly depends on your location, the device you want to buy, etc.
I would like to get the green one, but they told me that it doesn't have all the protocols, and that USB dongles have to be purchased separately, where can I buy them?
?
I just told you. It depends.
It depends on a few things. What protocol do you want to use? What software do you want to use with it? In the case of zigbee there's Z2M for example. Where do you live? Which adapter do you want to buy exactly?
It doesn't really make sense to ask where to buy xyz as google can tell you that.
i live in Italy, in my house i have some philips hue, some shelly's, some things with zigbee, reolink and imou cam's
Shelly is (mostly?) WiFi. Philips hue is zigbee (and bluetooth?). The cameras I assume are WiFi as well. You don't need dongles for WiFi.
Xiaomi makes a lot of things.
I don't own any xiaomi devices but if you share the model the guys in #hardware-archived can probably tell you.
ok, and for the air conditioner?
Not sure. A IR blaster will probably work in any case but it's not as nice as a real integration. We're getting a bit off-topic here.
both have integrations in home assistant
so i dont need a dongle?
you only need a dongle for zigbee if you use a green
yes, and damn that is cheap
144€
sky connect is the dongle for zigbee?
It's one option.
ok
ahh my mistake, it said 40 something euro when I accessed the page
yes just the dongle yes, 144 for the device and the dongle
so this is for zigbee?
yes
if you press the 'BUY NOW' button on the green site, it shows a list of retailers in Europe
That is a business decision you have to make yourself
Switzerland might have import taxes into italy. Denmark, Poland, German have not - there are shops there (got my yellow from germany last week)
hello, I would like create a home assistant box for my family in plug and play with integration directly pre-configure with false information (like integration i would like forecast solar, solar edge, home wizard). Do you have any idea of how to pre-configure (with docker or script)?
from which shop?
lats thing, how to uninstall supervisor with ssh?
Botland
Can‘t help you with that. I run HA in a podman container
Not sure what you mean by this. Do you mean you want to change your installation type? If you're running HAOS, you should not be removing Supervisor.
I have supervisor, but here I was told that it's not very good, and therefore to remove it, install Debian with container
Tbh I'm not sure, if it can be uninstalled via apt, which would be the easiest way
You mean you did a supervised install? If that's the case, your best bet would be to create a full backup (using the UI), removing the containers and then just setting up a docker compose with the Container only and copying your config over from the backup.
Read up, they have a well fucked up special setup
Supervised, on some butchered Debian, on weird hardware
hello, I would like create a home
Ugh... ouch. sigh
is it possible to change my username ? thanks to Ha or OS
@warped nimbus try sudo dpkg -r homeassistant-supervised
it says: dpkg: warning: ignoring request to remove homeassistant-supervised which isn't installed
Wait for the next release today. That feature is expected to be added in the 2024.7.0 release
@warped nimbus then I'm not sure, maybe they renamed the package
someone know how to do it?
whatever the case, if you would like to continue to attempt to use the DSGW-210 you should probably reach out to them for support
as in, the manufacturer/supplier
Yes. Get supported HA hardware and install docker on debian and only use the Container image.
how can i download it? with ssh
Buy supported hardware
that's a debian image for that dsgw-210, from this website: https://www.dusuniot.com/product/dsgw-210-rk3328-iot-gateway-hub-controller-bridge-hardware/
thats debian with container?
if you manage to flash that image, and it's pure debian, then you can follow the instructions on how to install home assistant container
but who knows
but from what I saw in the instructions for the container it is necessary to have HDMI, or am I wrong?
You'll need SSH, which hopefully that image includes
Didn't we have the exact conversation yesterday?
which method should i use for linux?' virtualbox, unraid, kvm ?
yo what the
None of that

which method should i use?
where is it BRO
i cant see container in the site you sent
Haven't you posted that before 😛
ok
And please... use the Docker Compose part. Fewer things to remember for you later.
i tryed, but i think that it dont goes
i pasted this: docker run -d
--name homeassistant
--privileged
--restart=unless-stopped
-e TZ=MY_TIME_ZONE
-v /PATH_TO_YOUR_CONFIG:/config
-v /run/dbus:/run/dbus:ro
--network=host
ghcr.io/home-assistant/home-assistant:stable
Docker might not be the right option for you my friend. You havent setup this compose at all. HAOS is going to be the only real option for you on a supported device. I dont think you'll be able to figure out how to setup a zigbee container for example with docker. HAOS on a supported device.
many people here told me that my device doesn't support haos
i have a dusun dsgw-210
correct?
it says me: Error response from daemon: No such container: homeassistant
Which is why we keep telling you to buy supported hardware
Option A: Read and understand the instructions - and learn basics of Docker as well
Option B: Get supported hardware
Your Dusun is a POS (pile of shit) and you were sold something completely unsuitable
A Green, or second hand small form factor PC that supports HAOS, is the only sane way forwards unless you want to actally learn Linux and Docker first
can i run it on a vm?
Yes
ok
That was already suggested to you 😉
But likely not on a VM on that darn Dusun
now I'll see whether to make a VM on a second PC, or whether to buy a green one at this point
Return the Dusun if you can
Oh, the poor buyer
ehhh ahah
Here. Have a hand grenade. Pin? Nah, you don't need that, just keep the spoon held down and it'll be ok.
ahah
As good as new. Slight signs of fragmentation.
Hi All.. Currently running RPI3 with USB SSD. Now moving to Odroid N2+ 4GB, with MicroSD and want to move my USB SSD as data disk from my RPI3 to the Odroid. I've made a full config backup using the backup function of the RPI3 HomeAssistant config. Currently Odroid is setting up the freshly flash HomeAssistant on MicroSD. If a load the config backup into the new Odroid and physically move the USB SSD from the RPI3 to Odroid. Will HomeAssistant use this disk automatically (since it was maybe part of the config?)
Update.. I just tried and went ahead. After start of the fresh HA i've moved over the USB SSD and Home Assistant detected it. Selected the disk , reboot and voila.. working !
i bought a green from this site, is it reliable? https://ewelinkstore.com/product/home-assistant-green-smart-home-hub-with-pre-installed-home-assistant-skyconnect-usb-coordinator-for-zigbee-and-thread-bundle/
i found it in the official home assistant site by clicking shop now
so i think that is reliable
Hello, does anyone here happen to know the url where the raspberry pi home assistant img file is stored? The one raspberry pi imager downloads?
🤣 Lol, ChatGPT just suggested I could install wireshark to eavesdrop on the raspberry pi imager on my laptop
Well it's not wrong, that WOULD work...
Never mind, found it.
How can I configure wifi on a freshly installed home assistant? There is no raspi-config!
do I need to get into wpa_supplicant directly?
don't use Wifi for HA
You can do it through the UI in HA. But yeah, don't use WiFi.
And how am I supposed to get to the UI if I don't have network?
So you are saying, I can't set this up unless I use ethernet right from the outset and I can't really use wifi?
You need ethernet to do the initial install.
Look, it has to use all kinds of radio communication with the sensors, right? That means it has to be rather central to the house. And it so happens, the only place I have wired ethernet is in the basement.
After you do the initial install, then you can go into the UI and add the WiFi information.
sigh I should probably just forego the ready-made image and install it on a mint raspbian-headless.
That has all the useful little tidbits installed that makes life bearable.
What do you mean by "install it on..." You mean going with a Core install? You still need internet access for the packages and such.
@humble mirage excuse me for the tag, but, FINALLY I BOUGHT AN HOME ASSISTANT GREEN
There is no installation method that doesn't require internet access in some way, shape, or form.
On a stock raspbian, I'd HAVE internet access out of the box. Look, I've had a difficult day, ok? Todoist have withdrawn their alexa skill so my integration between alexa lists and my magicmirror is broken, I've jumped through a million hoops to get haos running on an nvme drive, and now this.
I get it. 🙂 But honestly, do the initial install on ethernet, then just switch it over to WiFi.
It'll be faster that way too.
Depending on what radio waves your devices use, they would probably reach from your basement honestly. But after setup wifi should be fine.
Depends on what "radio" you mean
WiFi doesn't need the HA host to be connected by WiFi
#zigbee-archived and #zwave-archived and #thread-archived are all mesh networks
The question is, what little inconveniences will I discover next? is there a proper package manager? Do I have a proper shell or just an unconfigured PITA busybox?
HAOS isn't intended for you to be doing things like managing packages.
HAOS has no package manager, no shell

So who does the OS updates then?
You run HA on it, and #add-ons-archived. There are #integrations-archived including custom ones, but you don't mess with the platform outside of those.
HAOS handles OS updates, and software installs (aka #add-ons-archived) in the UI
Just for context, if I DO install ha-core on a linux box, I get essentially the same functionality as if I had used that pre-cast hands-off image, right?
Don't use Core
HAOS or Container - all bring you the same HA
Core requires you to do annual Python installs from source
Docker saves you from that
https://www.home-assistant.io/installation#advanced-installation-methods (but skip Supervised)
docker is what I have now. makes it a big PITA to get at the config and borderline impossible to get serial devices like a zigbee bridge attached.
🤨
No bollocks. also the nas I'm running it on is borderline overworked as it is.
Docker on Windows?
Well, Docker on a NAS is your own fault
Docker on an actual computer has no problems like you describe
@urban tusk We talked about this 🙂 Get it off your NAS. MUCH better experience.
That, my friends, is EXACTLY why we're having this conversation.
to bloody GET IT OFF THE STINKING NAS.
lol what are you trying to install it on? rPi? Mini PC?
A brand-spanking new pi5 I bought specially for the purpose.
Ok, fine. Throw raspbian on it and then docker and then create a compose file for HA. Done and dusted 🙂
Then Debian + Docker if you want a package manager, the ability to run random Docker images, and the like
HAOS if you just want an appliance
so the ha website tells me core can't do modules, that pretty much rules that out.
Home Assistant container you build your add ons as their own docker containers.
What do you mean *nix greybeards? I AM a *nix greybeard!
So am I... but I still use Docker 😉
As you've been struggling to install HAOS, your skills clearly lie in other areas 😉
@brazen herald I've had a trying day, ok, I don't need that kind of aggravation right now.
can you check a thing for me please?
Perhaps take a break and try again tomorrow? 😉
THAT is a much more insightful and sensible comment than your last.
I'll have a beer, watch some eighties comedy and get back on it in the morning.
Considering the fact that I'm here volunteering my time for free after working for 13 hours today... good choice 😉
Considering that you just tried to burn me -and failed, I might add - I think we are even.
So have a peaceful one, peeps, I'm off to cool my head some.
ESPHome is a system to control your ESP8266/ESP32, with a native integration for Home Assistant.
You can find their documentation here, and get help with ESPHome itself here in the #diy-archived channel (#integrations-archived for the Home Assistant side integration with it). They also have their own Discord server too.
ha green have home assistant os?
Yes
ok thanx
anyone have a good guide for using zigbee and z-wave dongles on an RPI and sending to Home Assistant? I have seen a few on Google but I'm not sure if maybe there's preferred/recommended guides?
(home assistant is a docker container on my main servers, not on the Pi)
Run docker on the RPI with a zigbee or zwave container. Check in at #zigbee-archived or #zwave-archived for any additional support.
Hello Friends, I am running HAOS on RPi5 4GB now. Planning to add 6 Cameras, hence installed go2rtc with Frigate. Seems RPi5 can not deliver hence looking for Google Coral advise. is it worth investing on Coral. If so which one? the USB or M.2 PCie one? Any advise?
You'll want to ask in #cameras-archived
Since 2024.6.3 I have been unable to update my HA Core. It’s in a VM on a Synology NAS. I’ve tried rebooting the VM, rebooting the NAS. In the supervisor logs, I get this message:
2024-07-03 15:06:41.701 ERROR (MainThread) [supervisor.docker.interface] Can't install ghcr.io/home-assistant/qemux86-64-homeassistant:2024.7.0: 404 Client Error for http+docker://localhost/v1.44/images/ghcr.io/home-assistant/qemux86-64-homeassistant:2024.7.0/json: Not Found ("No such image: ghcr.io/home-assistant/qemux86-64-homeassistant:2024.7.0")
Please help?
Check the host logs.
Hello! I'm currently migrating hass to a NUC from a PI, installing supervised via KVM image. Just finished installing and am prompted with
Welcome to Home Assistant
homeassistant login:
is there a default login or do I need to somehow figure out the IP and configure from the onboarding page?
Why did you install Supervised? Raspberry Pi supports full HAOS
Then you should use the docker container install 😉
You can restore a supervised backup with a HAOS install.
Addons are docker containers.
Supervised is really really not recommended for a lot of reasons—and in your case, you will be breaking the requirements for Supervised by installing the other things you want
Besides, supervised does not support running anything else. I mean you can but you will get an unhealthy system at some point.
is there any documentation on how addons can be used in the docker install?
An add-on is a docker container
I recommend using docker-compose files to manage them.
Or virtualize HAOS and run your other stuff in another VM: #hardware-archived message
I thought thats what I was doing
ah right yes I explained myself wrong
its HAOS virtualised
Ah, yeah, missed that KVM mention 👀
The CLI should give you an ip/URL. It should look something like this: https://community-assets.home-assistant.io/original/4X/b/5/6/b56b931fcc819ca4a781162ddebf769a939de2db.png
If not you can run ha network info but my guess is that networking for the VM is not configured correctly if there is none.
If it looks different than that you might have installed something different. Care to share a picture?
@feral moth I converted your message into a file since it's above 15 lines :+1:
HAOS doesn't really have a password: #general-archived message
Can you tell me what image you used?
the KVM image from here:
https://www.home-assistant.io/installation/linux#install-home-assistant-operating-system
Try just root without password.
yup that worked
thanks
are we sure I have the right image?
happy to redownload if theres a better one
No that's the right one.
You probably used a serial terminal to connect to the VM, right?
On a (emulated) display or monitor it looks like in the link I shared but on the serial terminal it looks like what you have. I'm just not used to that. My bad.
But back to the topic. ha banner will give you the banner from my picture and ha network info will give you the whole network info.
ip a also works.
ok cool
looks like it has net
but has put it self on a strange ip range
so I cant hit it from my machine
I'm not sure what you use to virtualize (besides KVM, of course) but it might use NAT. I think virt-manager does that by default. You want a bridge.
as far as I know I just did a default install of kvm and loaded the image
I did install virtmanager was seeing conflicting instructions for KVM installs
ok cool sounds like I need to do some KVM reading
if you have any references for installing KVM in a more out of the box way im happy to blow away the machine and start again clean
I recommend Proxmox VE: #hardware-archived message
legend cheers ❤️
i tried reinstalling but it is still not working
You should ask the people in the ESPHome Discord.
im going to be honest i mixed up home assistant and esphome
i just installed Home Assistant onto a RIPI4, its stuck on create user and wont go past that point
Did anyone have any thoughts on where I should go with this?
Not sure if it was suggested to me, but someone mentioned look at the host logs, here’s some of the errors:
2024-07-04 03:28:42.701 homeassistant dockerd[516]: time="2024-07-04T03:28:42.701724362Z" level=error msg="Download failed after 5 attempts: local error: tls: bad record MAC"

@warped mica do any of the synology dsm apps such as the web server have an update?
i just installed Home Assistant onto a
Hey guys, I'm back. I'm happy to say I got my HAOS up and running. Thanks for setting my head straight last night, I needed that.
Which one 4GB or 8GB I am planning one. Hit a wall trying to install on Odroid N2+.
Hope you have fun with it. Glad you went with HAOS.
Hi, I've tried the install HA on my Elitedesk 800 machine but after finishing and rebooting it seems to be just stuck on a gnu grub interface.
Is there anything I might be doing wrong?
That machine has UEFI support?
Can you share what you see? Might be a situation like this (not exactly): https://github.com/home-assistant/operating-system/issues/3348
How did you flash HAOS?
I used the instructions with the ubuntu usb flash drive
https://www.home-assistant.io/installation/generic-x86-64#start-up-your-generic-x86-64
I'll take a picture
Please use imgur or other image sharing web sites, and share the link here.

secure boot is turned off. Not sure about "Sure Start" though
You can try to disable sure start. HP is kinda vague about it. If that doesn't work I'd like you to boot the ubuntu iso again and run this
efibootmgr
lsblk -o+FSTYPE,LABEL,MODEL
@raven forge with that command I get the following message:
order+FSTYPE```
Huh. You ran both as separate commands, right?
Can you share a picture?
It looks like this again
No I mean of the command outputs.
ah
I want to check if your disk was flashed correctly and UEFI boot is active.
EFI boot is okay but that disk layout does not look right. There should be more partitions and one with a label like hassos-boot.
See here for an example: #installation-archived message
I'd recommend the pi flasher or dd. See here for dd: #general-archived message
I'll try that. Ty
Note that the disk is /dev/sda. At least this time. Don't target a partition or the stick 😄
No NAS app updates afaik
I've installed HAOS in proxmox and I'm trying now to recover my backup, but it stays in the restore backup screen loading forever, is it just slow or there's something wrong with it?
I can see in the network connections of the browser that the fetch it's still pending
it's 4.1GB, but it's on my local network, it shouldn't take that long, right?
For backups that size it's recommended (in the docs even) to do a minimal setup and use Samba to upload the backup so you can restore
Thanks
Changing from HAOS through VMware on windows to bare metal on my NUC made watt usage go from 40W to 25W. But minimum watt increased from 11W to 12W which I thought was kinda interesting.
Yes, a little interesting. I guess HAOS is hitting some hardware that was virtualised in vmware.
Hi my home assistant crashes while updating the system
making it impossible to update
What's your install method? HAOS? Supervised? Container? Core?
What hardware is it running on?
You skipped his first question
I don't know what he meant with that
You don’t know how you installed home assistant?
No I don't remember
Open your Home Assistant instance and show information about your system
Go there
Okay
Home Assistant
Core
2024.5.5
Supervisor
2024.06.2
Operating System
12.4
Frontend
20240501.1
65w pd charger
P1 meter cable, zigbee dongle
I'm going to try a different power supply
Pretty sure the Pi doesn't support PD
You need one that provides the voltage and amps it expects
You also probably want a powered USB hub
It works fine but I think I understand the problem
@mighty thorn When using Discord's Reply feature it defaults to pinging the person you reply to, which can get frustrating for the target. Use Shift + click on the Reply option, or click @ ON to @ OFF to stop this - on the right side of the compose bar.
You have to change this every time (thank the Discord devs for that).
Ok... bye
I fixed it
Turning off discord pings is not a good idea for mods, as it means people tagging the mod role for spam won't reach us. It's a bad discord default and lack of settings, but you can help but turning off pings when you reply to people.
Kinda useless to use reply to respond to a message directly above.
ok so i think i messed up i was following a yt video and went in and tried switching to a static ip address and now i cant get into my HA at all do i need to do a complete reflash?
Hi All, just installed HAOS on a pi5. First time installing and using HA at all.
All seemed to be going okay until I got to the create user screen, and unable to actually create a user. Can fill in the form but not able to create an account. Have tried clearing the cache changing browser, trying it in the app on 2 devices and in pvt browser.
Only constant is the web page loading bar just seems to get stuck at 1/4 of the way to full. This is as soon as I click to create my smart home as the next create account page loads. Any help would be appreciated. TIA.
Update: restarted the pi5 and it now shows me a login screen that I have no idea what the details are 🤦🏽 any way to hard reset once it thinks an admin account has been created?
Just a keyboard and monitor.
@raven forge ok i have a keyboard and monitor setup on it
You can change networking settings via the CLI. Check ha network update --help for the options.
See here for an example:
- #installation-archived message
- #installation-archived message
You can get your current settings and the name of your interface viaha network info.
@raven forge ok thank you i will do that and see if i can figure it out if not i will be back
@raven forge ok i got it switched to where i can get back into my dashboard thanks so much
so my next question would be how important is it to have a static ip address for HA
Depends. If your DNS works properly and you use hostnames probably not that much. I'd recommend a static DHCP lease though.
the thing is i don't have regular internet and im using a router that they supplied and after talking to them earlier a static IP would have to be done through them they said they would assign it and its $15 a month
So im trying to determine if its worth $15 a month extra or not
i have no idea what a local ip lease is lol
Google it 🙂
is DHCP reservation the same thing?
Yeah. A static DHCP lease can also be referred to as a ip reservation.
can you help me
Don't ask to ask, just ask your question. Then people can answer when they're around.
When you do ask a question, try to provide as much background detail as possible. Ask yourself these questions first so that others don't have to:
- What version of the Home Assistant are you running? (remember, last isn't a version)
- What exactly are you trying to do that won't work?
- Is the problem uniform or erratic?
- What's the exact error message?
- When did it arise?
- What exactly don't you "get"?
- Can you share sample code, ideally with line errors where the error occurs?
@raven forge ok i have that option in my router dashboard
I only let the device itself choose its ip if I have no other option. Otherwise I use DHCP to give it one.
so should i just do a DHCP reservation on the ip that has already been assigned
Sure. You can also combine this. This makes sense when you have to let a device set its ip but still want to be able to reach it by its hostname and protect against collisions. If you're smart you let the device set a ip outside the DHCP range.
I'd generally recommend DHCP unless you have a good reason not to use it.
i also have DNS host mapping it looks like in my router
Hi all, I installed HAOS 12.4 on a laptop for the first time today. I navigated to homeassistant.local:8123 on my desktop and it instructed me to make an account. Clicking the "Create Account" button does nothing. I restarted the laptop, let it boot, and tried to restart the onboarding. The page now just has the "Welcome home!" login box, and of course the username/password I used doesn't work. Do I need to reinstall HAOS to restart the onboarding process?
Did you have ha running somewhere else before this laptop
Nope, trying it for the very first time today
And it has an ha> prompt?
it does
i gave that a go, it just comes up with []
so i assume there's no user account
hence wanting to restart onboarding
But it’s asking for a user so that’s weird. Not sure how that happened
exactly...
You could try entering “login” to get to the host and the # prompt
that does bring up the #
And then delete the config directory
can that be done while HA is running?
enter "ha core stop" for that
then rm -r /mnt/data/supervisor/homeassistant
-r is 'remove'?
that will remove (rm) the homeassistant directory (which is /config when you are in HA) and then you can use reboot
alright, giving that a go
the -r means recursively delete the directory and everything in it
Wait till you see the welcome to ha and ip address etc again and then try to reach in the browser. You should be at onboarding
fantastic, that allowed me to restart onboarding
thank you very much for your help
now to see if it allows me to create an account
right. that's the odd part.
name and username don't need to be a specific length, i assume
and the 'create account' button would only go blue if the password is of sufficient strength
brilliant, i just made the username the same as the name and it allowed me through
looking forward to using HA, thank you again
Hey all - been using HAOS in a VM and like it well enough to put it on dedicated hardware. Converting the VM to a physical disk seems like some faff, but I know HAOS can do config backups to Samba shares with an add-in. If I back up my VM config and then restore it to a fresh install on my dedicated box, is that a good plan?
Would I be using this same solution for the same issue posted slightly further up, just not a laptop but a raspberry pi5? (Assume as I'm not actually on the device I would need to do this by plugging in a keyboard and mouse?)
You can wipe HAOS and start fresh with ha os datadisk wipe.
Just tried this and back to original problem where I enter the account details I want but won't allow me to click the create account button.
Have also fully wiped the SD card and reloaded from raspberry pi 5 loader with os 12.3 to no avail
Sounds similar to this: https://github.com/home-assistant/operating-system/issues/3459
I'd check the browser's developer tools.
Awesome great will give that a go 👍🏼
😂 when capital letters in a username are the problem. need a tooltip 👍🏼
Hello, quick question, I ve my home assistant using the duckdns domain available on internet but on the local network it's not working.
This prevent me to cast on my google nest a dashboard (because it doesn't use the local network).
https://homeassistant.[mysubdomain].duckdns.org -> 5G ok / wifi KO
Behind home assistant I ve swag as reverse proxy on a OMV on a proxmox if it can help.
I ve the exact same issue related with jellyfin and other self services exposed on the internet, so it's not a HA related issue
Any idea where I need to look ?
uh, I've run into that with my setup before, trying to remember the term for what you need to set in your router
you're looking to set up NAT loopback or NAT hairpin, which is allowing your local devices to go through the port-forwarding as well
having said that, I think I ended up not figuring out how to do that, and I set up a split DNS instead. so jellyfin.home.example.com resolves to my outside IP address with a CNAME, and from the inside it resolves to my reverse proxy with another CNAME
not sure if that's really easier, but I already had BIND set up and was not afraid to use it 😉
Trying to get HAOS off the ground on a new Pi 5, 8GB, getting this
[supervisor.docker.interface] Can't install ghcr.io/home-assistant/raspberrypi5-64-homeassistant:2024.7.1: 404 Client Error for http+docker://localhost/v1.44/images/ghcr.io/home-assistant/raspberrypi5-64-homeassistant:2024.7.1/json: Not Found ("No such image: ghcr.io/home-assistant/raspberrypi5-64-homeassistant:2024.7.1")
[supervisor.homeassistant.core] Error on Home Assistant installation. Retrying in 30sec
Googling got me nothing.
Nevermind, I put the full URL in, and got a page.
Still not a solution though.
Make sure it has unrestricted internet access and no custom DNS messing with it
There a way I can SSH into it in this state?
It should be unrestricted, and I have nothing special DNS wise.
You can also try to get access to the console and set DNS by hand
ha dns options --fallback=false --servers dns://8.8.8.8
followed by ha host reboot
For the console with keyboard and display, you don't need the starting ha
Though if you are using your ISP's DNS, you may want to try cloudflare with 1.1.1.1
If a Terminal add-on is running (and configured for SSH) you can SSH into it.
I ve a adguard selfhosted running, it can mess with my config ?
How did you do the CNAME stuff ?
@tough latch that ? https://pasteboard.co/wyYYqHJbVyQb.png
but I can't insert the port :/
Did that; issue persists.
Huh. Had to give it a static IP.
I'm running HA behind a reverse proxy that uses the requested hostname to decide where to route the request to
so as long as I talk to my proxy using "ha.home.example.com" it'll do the right thing
so no need for extra ports, it's all 443 for HTTPS
you don't need port forwarding on your router ?
actually I have one for swag and one for qbittorent
But where should I investigate to fix my issue ? ^^'
I m confused with it, t work on the outside and in the inside but not with the external URL inside the local network
oh, sure, I need to forward the HTTPS port on my router, but that's separate to the DNS rewriting
but my point is that I have my HTTPS reverse proxy. and that's the one that is the endpoint of my https://ha.home.example.com
and that then proxies to my homeassistant box on port 8123
yeah, I have setted the config for each app for every exposed app
It's why it's accessible outside
I don't understand the difference with being inside the network
do you have a sample of your rewriting ofc, obfuscated
I don't rewrite anything. I ryun my own full-fledged DNS server, and that has a rule to make it serve different IP addresses depending on where the request is coming from
So you didn't do anything spedical in adguard
I don't run adguard
or pi hole
I do run pihole, but the DNS server I'm doing that dance is the one pihole talks to
hehe in the end I don't know where I should investigate ^^'
it's too complicated for me
what brand router do you have?
Orange livebox
seems like that can't do NAT loopback: https://martin-jones.com/2013/12/10/orange-livebox-2-0-port-forwarding-and-nat-loopback/
Hello, I wanted to install hass OS again on my rpi5, but it shows me that Home Assistant CLI not starting, jump into emergency console... I tried to reinstall it a lot of times and still nothing, It's pretty new SD card, I have it used it last time with no problem...
Does the rpi5 have internet access? Have you checked for error messages?
How can I solve? raspberry pi 4b
Wating for the Home Assistant CLI to be ready....
WARN Home Assistant CLI not starting! Jump into emergency console....
$
Is this a new install or did this just start happening?
Is it connected to the internet?
not by ethernet
That’s your issue.
Ah, does it only work if it's connected to Ethernet?
For the initial install, yes. After that, you can setup WiFi for it (but it’s not recommended to do so).
oh ok thanks
Anytime 😊
yep it was a problem with internet.. fixed, tysm
Happy to help. 😊
What are you hoping to achieve by installing Proxmox?
Well, until you have a reason to deviate from the official documentation, I recommend not bothering.
Pis aren't the most powerful of devices, you'll be further limiting what you can do by running HA inside of Proxmox
If you don't know why you're doing something, maybe don't do it 🙂
yeah i'm just going to keep life simple and go with Rbp OS
Wait, Pi OS? Why not HAOS?
life is more exciting when you do questionable nonsense for no particular reason
Exciting/problematic for unknown reasons 😉
It's an OS
If you try to install HAOS on top of another OS that's Supervised, which has to be installed on Debian (not a variation), and requires you to do a lot of work for no gain yourself.
That's why it is called HAOS
HAOS is the way to go to keep things simple!
yeah I was thinking about running other stuff on this thing in addition to HA, but for my first install this time, I will just keep it simple on here
Keep it simple, make backups, and then you can always migrate to a container install later.
Glad to help!
yes, I am a noob. this is probably a dumb question, but it's where I am.
I currently have HAOS installed on a N100 mini PC. I'm running Frigate with a Coral as well. I added a second hard drive to my mini PC for Frigate to store the media (as opposed to the main drive), but it seems that the add-on version of Frigate does not allow a separate local storage for media. it says as much in Frigate documentation as well, but the documentation notes that it is a limitation of HAOS.
it seems like running HA and Frigate as docker containers on a linux host would fix that issue and let me configure Frigate to my liking, but I don't know how far off the deep end I am going because it seems like that route would get rid of the Supervisor that manages add-ons?
any advice/assistance clarifying this in my mind?
maybe a more specific question also: would running HA without HAOS (by just installing the core as a docker container) mean that any add-ons I install (e.g. Node Red) must be manually installed as its own docker container on the host?
You can either virtualize HAOS and manage storage how you wish or run the software in the addons as your own docker containers. I feel like virtualization isn't a good idea here.
^ no, that appears to be completely possible using HAOS from everything I've read. it involves mapping the network storage and mounting it as /media
the challenge is only when you want to use a separate local storage because there are not provisions for mounting a local storage as /media as far as I can tell
when you go to** Settings -> System -> Storage -> Add Network Storage** one of the options there is Media. that's what you'll want
Anything with “OS” is an Operating System, unless it is wrongly labeled as such. Can’t think of any examples of that
Hi there,
I'm having issues installing HA 2024.7.1 (python 3.12.4)
I've been going back & forth all weekend, trying to get the 'hass' command after installation to work.
But even after leaving it open for over 8hours, It still gave no reply whatsoever.
I've installed HA on an ubuntu WSL (on windows 11), (tutorial checked & followed: https://www.home-assistant.io/installation/windows )
Anyone that can help ?
Is there a reason you're trying to use a pure Core install?
If you have to run on Windows then a VM (VirtualBox) + HAOS is better
That's a fact, and I already did the install on virtualBox. But ... it's still bothering me that I couldn't get it to work 🙂
Getting it working there requires some Linux-fu and some Python venv-fu
It's perfectly possible, but if you're not already at home on both it'll be hard work
(also requires you to follow the docs very carefully)
Quite 'at home' in both areas, but still ... the HASS command doesn't do anything
If you just type hass then that runs HA
There's nothing else to see at that point
If you ^C then you'll stop it running
You may want to re-read https://www.home-assistant.io/installation/windows#create-the-virtual-environment
I am a newb to HA. I am trying to install HAOS on a Intel 185H machine and I disabled secure boot. I ended up using the try Ubuntu on a USB and installing the HAOS on the local hard drive. Now, when I try to boot the hard drive, and I am getting stuck at Booting 'Slot A(OK=0 TRY=0). I am wondering if the grub is wrong???
Fresh user on HA here. I set up HA on RPI 3B+ without issue. I enabled Wifi client and could access via both IP addresses. But when I unplugged the Ethernet and rebooted, the RPi comes up on Wifi (ping works) but the HA http server is not responding ("refused to connect."). Is this expected (maybe boot is waiting for something to timeout)? UPDATE: I suspected that I made the mistake of installing MQTT add-on and that ate up the RAM. Starting over. UPDATE2: Not only MQTT had been enabled, but also ESPHome, so yeah... I think RPi 3B+ is simply too limited in RAM. Moved HA onto an x64 machine using Docker. And all-in-all, installations have worked well. I think I just tried to squeeze too much into too little RAM.
Hi everyone, I'm having a problem with my home assistant instance running in a VM in windows: I can't access my instance from my phone or computer or from anywhere. I have a DNS service set up and I used to be able to access Hass with this link. My SSL certificate has not expired. Even when I try to connect to it locally it says dns_probe_finished_nxdomain... I know that the VM can access the network because my esphome motion sensor still works and runs it's automations. Anyone have a solution? Thanks in advance
i tried the lan ip and that didnt work either btw
What's the IP shown in the (VM) console?
Well, it'd be http://10.0.2.15:8123/ or maybe https://10.0.2.15:8123/
both say ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT
Btw last time I tried to start the VM it completely crashed
And also home assistant doesn't appear in my router
And the rest of your computers use 10.0.2.x?
Well my main pc is on 192.something
i've installed hacs but i dont see on the left sidebar
Did you set it up?
how?
ok, now i am doing an update, then i do it, thanx 🙂
did it 🙂
which is the right?
That's a #frontend-archived question entirely dependent on what you want to do.
ok
I'll check in a sec, thanks
I changed my settings to bridged adapter and it's still not working lol
hi, I need help with the migration from tuya/smart life to home assistant, I have it installed on a NAS, I have done all the previous steps but when I have to put the user code to import the integrations it gives me the message: unknown error occurred. What am I doing wrong?
Can I install Home Assistant on my Raspberry Pi without flashing my SD card?
Anything in the logs? Any errors?
The short answer is no. There's a longer answer, but def not recommended on a rPi.
Yes, but not if you use HAOS. A pure Container (Docker) install will work
A Pi3 though will be underpowered
And don't even think about anything lower
Can you send me a tutorial?
Discussion about how to install Home Assistant (https://www.home-assistant.io/installation), and issues with the install itself. Make sure to mention which type of installation you have. If you're not sure of your installation method, check under Info in the System Health Card (https://my.home-assistant.io/redirect/info/)
There's a link in the channel topic
Scroll down to Install Home Assistant on Linux
Then Install Home Assistant Container
And use the Compose option 😉
I haven't installed Linux on my Rasp.
Well... you have to flash something on that SD card 😉
Flash HAOS and be done with it
(and then plan the migration to an SSD so you don't lose all your data when the SD card dies)
No, i have scripts on my SD card!
no, only these.
And you're trying to use the Tuya integration?
yes
I try this way!
Please read the thread 😉
Yes
@terse siren I converted your message into a file since it's above 15 lines :+1:
That's different than your Tuya issue. Does your HA instance have internet access?
yes, the NAS has internet and apparently home assistant too. I have an other container for Pihole. Whatever, both containers works in a virtual lan and I think is generating the problem.
Is it possible that pihole is blocking the Tuya and metno calls? You should check the query log there and see if that is the case.
Yes, I was thinking this but I paused pihole and the result was the same. sorry for my english.
@terse siren I converted your message into a file since it's above 15 lines :+1:
s6-rc: info: service legacy-services successfully started
[✗] DNS resolution is currently unavailable
[✗] DNS resolution is not available
Uh, I think I found your problem 🙂
Hi, installed and booted the haos, but I am now staring into a black screen for like 3mins now, is this normal?
I'm worried about the last 2 lines that say the dns don't work. But pihole does its job and the rest of the devices have internet perfectly.
What do you mean a black screen? And yes, it can take up to 20 minutes for the installation to complete.
Ah
Please use imgur or other image sharing web sites, and share the link here.
Image posting is blocked in most channels to discourage people from sharing text as images. Sharing text as images assumes that everybody sees the world as you do, which isn't the case. Some people are colour blind, or have visual impairment that means they can't make sense of an image of text.
By black screen I mean that I after getting into boot selection, and booting HAOS it just went blank
I’ll wait like 20mins and if nothing changes I’ll come back here
but how it's possible the DNS is unavailable but the devices has internet perfectly?
Remember, there's no local UI
You need to use your web browser, as explained in the install docs
That's a good question. My guess might be that they are falling back to your router's DNS server?
yes, then there should be no problem, if it works for some things it should work for home assistant
what confuses is me is that up to this point everything worked fine, i just restarted my computer for an update. i tried making a new vm, still nothing
I am waiting for this: “Power the system on. If you have a screen connected to the Generic x86-64 system, after a minute or so the Home Assistant welcome banner will appear in the console.” And I can’t connect to the local address/site w/e
oh so now zigbee2mqtt doesnt work either it does nothing anymore, cli is still functional though
So what do I do from here? I don't know what to do anymore. I don't have a spare computer either- so if I don't get this working no more lights in my room for a while 😅
First thing: downloading a backup asap
It's on a virtual disk so it should be fine
But as I said I don't have a spare computer to run this on and it would be very hard for me to get one
Does anyone have any idea what could be happening?
There's well documented problems with bridging to WiFi networks on Windows
let me try
booting and praying at the same time
but what im confused about is that the esphome motion sensor still worked for some reason 🤔
YES
IT WORKS
still very confused by:
how it worked pefectly until now
how the esphome motion sensor still worked
but thank you for your help :3
No
Probably a Windows update or VBox update that broke it all
im going on a trip to the us and i plan to come back with a pi to run all of this on
Err... in my config folder there are endless levels of the same directory. All files changed at the same time, indicating that they are indeed the same files. Can anybody explain what is going on here? 😅
https://i.imgur.com/etnnnAE.png
Samba run amok?
Could be... but I have no idea where to start troubleshooting
Symlink to that directory within the same directory?
Don't know what that means unfortunately
If you don't know what it means, then I bet it's Samba acting weird. Try rebooting your HA instance (full reboot) and maybe also reboot your computer as well.
Will do
Properties of the config folder currently says > 175 000 files, still counting 😅
You have a recent backup, right? Just in case?
Yeah every night
Keep it handy... I've never seen Samba wig out like that, but it also wouldn't surprise me.
I recently opened the config folder in vs code via smb, maybe it could be related
But I do that from time to time
https://i.imgur.com/B8Gb4ZD.png Does this seem strange to you? I'm not very handy on these parts... (considering I do backups each night, I suppose those are the peaks). But I'm not sure why it would write to the disk. Maybe that's where something is happening?
Theory being the backup is being written to the config folder - essentially creating a copy of all the files. But that wouldn't explain all files on different levels indicating that they were edited at the same timestamp
🤔 Maybe? It might be the database performing writes in bursts. That's not unheard of with sqlite3's wrte ahead logging.
If you remote into the console and do a ls -lah, do you see the same thing?
No 🤔 At least I don't think so: https://i.imgur.com/B4sx4xW.png
Actually... yeah, that link homeassistant -> /homeassistant looks odd to me.
I'm running a full backup now then a snapshot, then I'll remove the top dupe dir and see what happens
Yeah, I'm not sure how or why that symlink is there. It's weird and not something that HA would normally create (that I know of)
Full backup is by the way 1777mb, while if I inspect the properties of the dir from explorer, its >50 gb
I removed all the duplicate directories and rebooted now. Seems to be working and no new directory is created. I'll see what happens overnight... thanks for your help
this is still present though
I think you had a combination of issues. That symlink still bothers me, but also I think Samba freaked out on you as well.
How would I go about removing the symlink?
From the console, rm -f homeassistant. But I would take a backup before that just to be extra safe since I don’t know how it got there in the first place.
it's back after reboot 🤔
Yeah, I’m not sure. HAOS might create it? I run Container, so I’m not sure.
Hi! Same here with my VM 😦 everything works, only the GUI not.
My PC is running on LAN, so maybe wifi is not the problem.
Check that it's still on bridged networking
I unfortunately restarted it, so everything is ok now. I have to wait for it to happen again. I had to use the HA so I was not able to let it sit stuck.
I can probably replicate it. I had similar problem when I was changing my switch! Seemingly dead HA, maybe will be same result.
So unplugging it for a second from the switch
Hello
I install home assitant on a respberry pi 5 with sd card and i have a Raspberry Pi M.2 HAT+ with a ssd how can i put home assitant from sd card to ssd?
If you're using HAOS you either:
- Flash the image to the SSD
- Keep the SD card and move the data only
yes i use HAOS but how can i flash the ssd?
https://dpaste.org/nSqoz this is my logra
how long should a HAOS restore (HA, Folders, 12 Addons) roughly take on a Pi4 with a USB3.0 NVME? It's been an hour so far, no response from HA
Depends on the size of your instance and how much data has to restore. Typically, for a 10gb restore, I tell people 15-45 minutes. Bigger than that can take longer.
Yeah, get some coffee... touch grass... um... whatever the kids say, do that 🙂
lmao even better.
It seems like my HA is bridget, right? The case when HA GUI is not working but everything else seems to does. https://pasteboard.co/FXKHvegcjYU9.png
maybe another different problem not related to the one we talked before.. https://pasteboard.co/dnskeklQ8fzm.png It just did "systemd-coredump"
Did it solve your problem?
Sorry for not posting it in one message, I just found another log https://pasteboard.co/HudkY7CfVSOQ.png The worst part is, that anyone having the same issue and posting it online gets no replies 🙁
You've not yet shared any image of the VM network settings
Yes, worked perfect for many months
I have it set to Attached to: Bridged Adapter, or at leas I dont know about any other settings there I could post
Thanks! If I dont find solution, I might try it.
You've read 12000 messages to find mine from January. It would be much faster to install VMware 😂
To be honest, I have heard of people suggesting to install Proxmox atc. but I already had VirtualBox and it feels like its super easy to use, and I was not into switching. Until recently..
Running Windows (desktop) for VMs can be fine, or full of problems, or flop between the two
When I used virtual box, in the last few weeks it got stuck every 2-3 hours. With VMware it only got stuck once in 6 months.
I have been running the windows server 2022 edition with the WirtualBox for a looong time, even had the 2019 edition before. After that 5 years of running it that way I havent had any problems :/
It just started for no reason :/ Not sure what happened. I am mainly running on windows because of BlueIris
#android-archived can better help there
well after 3 hours it was still completely down. did a hard reboot and we're back but i have no idea if the restore took or not. at least it's usable again
But you got a good nap in, right? 😉 How do you not know if the restore took or not? Are your "things" there?
my history seems good and there are no errors. it was a good nap.
Hey everyone...
I'm trying to setup my Pi5 with the official HASS OS image but I can't get it to show the GUI. I always get connection refused so I'm guessing that something is stopping my Pi from booting correctly. I can ping but I can't get to the GUI even with the IP:8123. The issue is, I'm pretty far off in a remote area right now and don't have an HDMI cable to check whats going on. Is there any way to enable SSH via the boot image like you can do with a standard PiOS image? I don't even have a config.yaml since I wasn't even able to access the setup GUI. Any ideas?
Does the pi have internet access?
No, not yet. Is it required to? Can I setup wifi without the GUI?
Yes, HAOS needs internet for the install, and setup
Better than providing a 16 GB download 😛
You can cut it off after setup
The problem is that it downloads all the Docker images, and all the Python packages after the HAOS install
Adding any integration results in Python package downloads
Adding any add-on needs a download
@cinder tulip When using Discord's Reply feature it defaults to pinging the person you reply to, which can get frustrating for the target. Use Shift + click on the Reply option, or click @ ON to @ OFF to stop this - on the right side of the compose bar.
You have to change this every time (thank the Discord devs for that).
Yes, it could, but somebody would have to develop that change, and it's not been on anybody's priority list
Maybe you could develop that change 😉
Also https://www.home-assistant.io/code_of_conduct/ and #rules rule 4 😉

when I access home assistant (with the IP that my rasbperry provided me) to be able to register there is this message ("An error occurred while installing Home Assistant, check the logs below for more information.")
Yes once I have access to the GUI and can setup wifi Internet wont be a problem... can I prerequisite the wifi connection settings in the installer image somehow?
No, still no
Good morning, I got a HP elite desktop and want to use it only for HomeAssistant
I do not have a need for docker
I figured that would be the easiest. THANKS. Can you recommend good Zwave and Zigbee hub?
#zigbee-archived and #zwave-archived can if you tell them your country
🙂
@sand niche I converted your message into a file since it's above 15 lines :+1:
#integrations-archived can help there
I reading the docs and its seem there are 2 method. It seem like the prefer Methond 1?
Use this method only if Method 1 does not work for you.
That's what the docs say...
I'd suggest not second guessing them and just following them 😉
sorry, but i dont see the advantages of installing ubuntu?
You're not installing it
You're using a live distro to allow you to easily flash the drive
ah!! ok. Now this makes total sense. THANKS
Create a live operating system on a USB flash drive
Guessing you skipped the reading part 😛
LOL .... yes i skim it.
I'm getting this error when trying to install HAOS on an Optiplex:
[supervisor.docker.interface] Can't install ghcr.io/home-assistant/generic-x86-64-homeassistant:2024.7.2: 500 Server Error for http+docker://localhost/v1.45/images/create?tag=2024.7.2&fromImage=ghcr.io%2Fhome-assistant%2Fgeneric-x86-64-homeassistant&platform=linux%2Famd64: Internal Server Error ("Get "https://ghcr.io/v2/": net/http: request canceled while waiting for connection (Client.Timeout exceeded while awaiting headers)")
Is this a dns issue?
I had a similar issue the other day, except it was a 40x instead of 500. After a few retries it resolved itself. I thought it was a DNS issue first but pihole was resolving the domain just fine
Unfortunately, I let the installation try to run all night and it never made past that. Kept retrying but failed everytime.
Does the optiplex have internet access? Are you blocking it at all?
It does have internet. Connected via ethernet
Huh, can you get to the console on it?
I'm just at the HA cli
I added the dns server 8.8.8.8. Saw people mention that but no success with that either.
What do you get if you do a ha network info?
I can't post an image, but it shows
docker info,
host_interface: true
interfaces:
-connected: true
enabled: true
interfaces
ipv4
ipv6
supervisor_internet: true
No IP information?
It shows my ip address in the ipv4 and ipv6
Sounds like a DNS issue to me, or you got (temporarily) blocked for too many requests to the servers
Try switching your DNS to 1.1.1.1
Okay I'm trying 1.1.1.1
i can't seem to upgrade to 7.2. I keep getting this:
Error in database connectivity during commit: Error executing query: (sqlite3.OperationalError) unable to open database file (Background on this error at: https://sqlalche.me/e/20/e3q8). (retrying in 3 seconds)
after the last time i got this, i did a restore from the night before, which also didn't quite work, but a hard reboot stabilized everything
not sure what to do
i also cannot soft restart in this state:
Failed to restart Home Assistant
[Errno 5] I/O error: '/config/configuration.yaml'
Okay it eventually made it through the installation and I was able get setup. But it is saying "Unhealthy system - supervisor update failed"
Showing that I am on 2024.06.2
But at least I'm in!
Hey, im trying to Install Home Assistant on a Raspi 4B - I always get Errors while installing.. Here my logs:
http://pastie.org/p/6vSpdbR7tiGsHwXsdn52OH
It's conncted via Ethernet to the Router and got enough Power via USB C 🙂
Use a proper paste site.
Please use a code sharing site. I will not download random files
Please use a code share site to share code or logs, for example:
- https://dpaste.org/ (select YAML for the language, and consider picking a longer expiry)
- http://pastie.org/ (select YAML for the language)
- https://paste.debian.net/ (you guessed it, select YAML as the language)
Please don't use Pastebin, since it can randomly add spaces to the main view. Please also don't share text as images since it makes it harder for people to help you. Remember that others may have colour blindness, impaired vision, etc.
Sorry, its now on pastie 🙂
That doesn't look like a fresh install. More like a failed backup restore
Strange - Did a fresh Install to the SD-Card for the first time..
Can I restart the installation?
Reflash the SD card
Ok
Yeah, that's not a fresh install at all.
Raspi imager should be fine. Did you have an existing installation there already?
Nope - First time in my life xD
Reflash it with the RPi Imager (the image for the Pi4) and make sure iit has internet access when starting the Pi
It's new flashed - I will try it again - Ethernet is plugged in
SanDisk Extreme 128GB A2 should make no problems or?
"Preparing Home Assistant
This may take up to 20 minutes"
And now... patience
It's working 🙂 Ty
After a power outage, HomeAssistant refuses to load without going to safe mode. The only error in the log that could be relevant is The system could not validate that the sqlite3 database at //config/home-assistant_v2.db was shutdown cleanly
I've tried removing the database completely and rebooting, but safe mode and the error reappear after the reboot. Anyone have any other suggestions?
While NTP is active, it appears the time zone is no longer set correctly. Console shows TZ is Etc/UTC instead of what I configured.
edit, the console is the host itself. I'm reading that the TZ in the host is always UTC, the containers are wher the TZ offset is utilized
Have you tried a full reboot instead of a HA restart?
Yes, sorry. Reboot was what i actually meant.
I have to leave soon. But to have the info for others available:
what installation type do you have? Core, Container, Supervised or HAOS?
HAOS running on an ESXi VM. Thanks for the attention!
It is still complaining about the database, even though you deleted it?
Correct.
If it helps, our internet was still down when I was attempting to bring HomeAssistant back up. Now that we have internet again, I"m revisiting this issue.
As it is a VM...
I wouldn't tinker much with it and create a new one and restore a backup (an up-to-date one, downloaded before the incident/before deleting the old VM)
Output of ha host info - https://pastebin.com/t3q2rVYv
I don't have a recent full backup, but I can manage to get back up to date with what I have
on a side note, I remember a heated discussion about certain install types being "utter bullshit". Can you remind me what the suggested installation type was? They trash-talked my HAOS install, but I hadn't had any issues thus far.
It is totally fine to run HAOS in a VM
Trying to find the super-convienant download page
HAOS: convenient, but limited on the OS level, has add-ons
Container: less convenient, full control on the OS level, has no add-ons (as you already can use containers)
Core: not recommended for endusers. More for developers - you have to keep track of all requirements
Supervised: not recommended for anyone. breaks easily if requirements are not met. Illusion of more control
Github is sufficiant.
there don't appear to be any download links (to github or otherwise) on https://www.home-assistant.io/installation/ . Just instructions.
There are links embedded in the instructions
ahh, that's where I tripped up. I didn't necessarily need the instructions so I didn't check those.
Is it normal for HAOS to take roughly 15 minutes to actually respond to the web server after the console prompt loads and says supervisor has been started?
Not normal, unless you run on a toaster or have wet string for internet
oh, so it's internet dependant?
It didn't take very long to load after this fresh install, but while the internet was out it took FOREVER
Well, sort of
The problem is that the integration use Python libraries, and those have to be downloaded when they're set up - or when the container is rebuilt
So a full restart that results in the containers being rebuilt will result in downloads
I self-host everything on this network - DNS/DHCP/NTP
We were affected by the hurricane, power was out for about 6 hours, but after power came back WAN was still down for 4 days. If the docker host didn't have internet, I don't see how that could trigger a container update
It may have tried and fallen back to anything cached, without logs it's all just guessing
I understand, hard to diagnose without symptoms.
odd thing, just FYI I guess -
After the power outage, I couldn't get HA to boot without going into safe mode. It was complaining about 'couldn't verify sqlite3 database was cleanly unmounted'
After creating a new VM and installing HAOS, I mounted the old disk as a secondary drive - which HAOS happily used as the system disk.. (Boot partition on new disk, all data partitions were mounted from old disk automatically)
and HA loaded just fine. All my addons, automations, configuration, recorder database, EVERYTHING worked.
Do you know if the backup restore process checks hashes of the backup?
I'm considering repackaging core_ssh.tar with my ssh authorized_keys file
I doubt it, I've seen nothing to suggest it stores any hashes
I'm thinking the default 2GB ram is too low for this install
Will I need the IKEA hub/app to use IKEA's zigbee switches to change color and turn on/off the IKEA lamps?
No
You can use a #zigbee-archived coordinator with ZHA or Zigbee2MQTT
That channel can help further
