sorry ?
Don't DM people for help
so, I'm sorry
I don't know much English, I'm using a translator
oh I can't understand much
I didn't find anyone here in Brazil who understands this
They are not active like you, finding someone online is difficult, and even more so who knows what is going on.
I've been trying with them for 2 months
you, in 1 day I came closer
I'm sorry I asked for help in private, I didn't know I couldn't
Well... now you know to ask the question here... but until you do so nobody can help you
Hello! Yesterday i installed the new update. My home assistant was after that not available. So this morning i hook it up on a monitor and i saw the next message: booting slot a ok 0 try 0 . I couldn't solve it so i reinstalled the system. But now i still get the same message even with a new installation. I use an HP T620. Can somebody help me with this problem?
@dense vector might be related to this issue if you want to add more information there https://github.com/home-assistant/operating-system/issues/3305
Hey guys. I been away from home assistant for a while. I have been using it and such for a long time, but just haven't been messing with it in some time.
I have a switch that has been acting up on me and I just threw it in a box and ignored it. But now I really need it and I figured out it's because hass isn't connecting to the ESP Api for the device. I've apparently got it connected via mqtt and it never connected with api.
So I went into hass to attempt to connect it and it's asking for an encryption key. I don't have any idea where the config for this device is, WHAT TO DO?
In MQTT the device is looking for my computer for the OTA. Is it possible to just send it some kind of update to get it assigned a new encryption key? And if so, what is the best way to do that? I haven't messed with any of this stuff in a couple years

how can i fix it ?
By not using Supervised
If you must then you have to follow the requirements exactly - any deviation ensures that you'll have problems
As I understand it, Home Assistant can be accessed through a web browser on port 8123, but when I run homeassistant/home-assistant:latest inside Docker Desktop it doesn't expose any ports. https://imgur.com/a/i42Eh5u
How do I connect to it once running?
it just worked for me – but I was starting it from cmdline with:
docker run -d \
--name homeassistant \
--privileged \
--restart=unless-stopped \
-v /home/user/.homeassistant:/config \
-v /run/dbus:/run/dbus:ro \
--network=host \

hostnetworking
how do you ssh into HAOS/
There's beta support for it btw: https://docs.docker.com/desktop/release-notes/#4290
Haven't tested it myself. I just saw it in one of the last release notes.
that's news.
Host networking is also supported on Docker Desktop version 4.29 and later for Mac, Windows, and Linux as a beta feature. To enable this feature, navigate to the Features in development tab in Settings, and then select Enable host networking.
😮 Can I use my old colinux hack that i have a linux firewall within a windows system?
how do you ssh into HAOS/
Hey, I hope this is the right channel to post and ask questions about this. I am having an issue with getting my HA to update. I had issues with the beta's for 2024.4 and I thought it may be just beta problems. I would try to update and then update would process but then the "Home Assistant is starting, not everything is available...." message would stay on for a while. After roughly 20 minutes, then it would lose connection and restart again but then it would be reverted back to the previous HA version. I was able to successfully update to 2024.4.0 however, 2024.4.1, 2024.4.2, and 2024.4.3, I cannot get to update and I experience this same thing with each version since updating to 2024.4.0. Any one have this issue or know how to solve and troubleshoot this issue? Sorry for the long message.
I've installed HA and SkyConnect in Docker on UnRAID, but can't get it to connect?
- UnRAID can see the USB
I've read the forums etc and can't work it out :/
It just says 'Failed to connect'
What am I doing wrong?
does anyone know why this fails and what it is? https://postimg.cc/yDvzmrRs
Docker is kind of the heart of HAOS. HAOS uses docker containers to run a lot of the software: #general-archived message

hello I created a virtual machine with virtualbox. I made a bridge connection but when I try to connect to homeassistan my computer shuts down, anyone have a solution please
Looking for some help in regards to https://github.com/home-assistant/operating-system/issues/2272#issuecomment-1600300443 Waiting for Home Assistant CLI to be ready...... I am able to login to HassOS but when i check the label using e2label /dev/sda8 it returns "eslabel: No such file or directory while trying to open. Coudnt find valid filesystem superblock." I see it mentions "Probably in your case the devise is different." <---what does that mean and where else can i search for the label?
just did an install on a laptop and getting an error while trying to go into and startup
looking for a place to post the log
any suggestions would be great
I guess nevermind it just started working?
I have a raspberry pi 4 with Hass on it that suddenly wont connect to the network over ethernet. What should my steps be to see what is the issue?
Stupid, question... The website has NO download or buy links for the software... how done one find this?
you follow the tutorial on the installation page for whatever device you intend to use
Theres no download links.... not one
what are you installing on?
Linunx box, but theres no software links
you keep saying that
Can you show a screen shot? i cant find any links
<In Ubuntu, open a browser and open the current documentation page, so you can follow the steps.
From there, download the image.>
where it says "download the image"
with the link
im in the Raspbery Pi. i dont even see this..
and yet another way:
you said "linux box"
if you want to install on Raspberry Pi, just follow the instructions
don't look for download links, follow the instructions
no wifi to internet here. only cellphone data
yes, i cant download directly to the box. have to use my phone to get it on a sd card
hm no internet maybe an issue. Well thank you for the help!
Yes, you cannot install HA without the box having internet access on the first boot. You can do that somewhere else and then bring it to its final location.
Hi, can somebody help me, I know Installing Home Assistant Core is just for advanced users but I only have one raspberry and need other things to run there as well
my problem is the default python installation on ubuntu(3.11.6)
when I installed the correct version (3.12) and set it to default it always complains about some python.h file missing
does anybody here have an idea what I can try?
I only have one raspberry and need other things to run there as well
Use the docker image.
What are you referring to with plugins?
*Add-ons
The docker install is just core in a container. None of those have addons: https://www.home-assistant.io/installation/#advanced-installation-methods
Besides, addons are just docker containers, you can replicate them yourself.
what is the supervised option?
Pain. Something that shouldn't exist: #installation-archived message
Don't get me wrong I'd love for HAOS to be a debian base and not care about other software you run on it. The current supervised just doesn't have any benefits.
so, it doesen't rlly work?
See link. It would work but you cannot run anything else on it. Not what you want.
ok, thx for the advice
I recommend virtualization to people who want to use HAOS but still want to have the flexibility to run other stuff: #hardware-archived message
Unfortunately you have a pi. So unless you want to switch hardware my suggestion is still to run the docker image and replicate addons yourself.
ok, is therw a way to run a vm on haos?
No.
ok
Apologies this is not an HA question but maybe someone here knows. I have old Macbook Air (5.2 2012) I want to use for HA. It's core i7 processor with 8 Gb RAM so that should be more than enough. I re-installed the MacOS and now it's rolled back to 10.8.5. I know it should be able to run 10.15 (Catalina) but can't download. App Store on old Mac says: not compatible anymore, on a new Macbook it says: this device is not compatible. Spend already hours but can't find a solution
The only download I find is 10.11 and 10.12. The .dmg files are about 5, 6 gB. When I launch them they start to install, a popup says will take '11 Mb' of space and after successfull installation, I don't see any change... App Store doesn't work it give 'communication to App Store failed'. Believe this is because of the old OS because browsing a webpage works and my Apple ID is valid and entered...
@slender adder did you try https://archive.org/details/mac-os-catalina-10.15.5-19-f-101_202302 ?
also, after the installation of the 10.11 or 10.12 .dmg files, are there no new entries in Applications to install those versions of the OS?
That's it in the applications I have both items now to upgrade to Sierra or El Capitan. I'm installing now Sierra. Maybe from there I can download Catalina if App Store works. Thanks anyway. Also clicked your link and I'm downloading by Torrent now
if you've got an archive.org account (which is free) it will download faster via http
but sounds like you've got it sorted either way
Yes, thank you very much. Spend few hours and couldn't get out!
P.S. From Sierra (10.12.6) I could not upgrade to Catalina (10.15.5) but thanks to your link, could download and installation was succesful! Thanks once more!!!
awesome, no worries
Hello I have a question about installing home assistant on raspberry pi 5. I have an error that says I don't have a supervision connection and I don't know what to do about it
Not sure if this should go on hardware or here. I have a 2012 Intel Mac mini. I have a 256gb SSD and 16gb of ram. All my Mac OS stuff is already transferred to a backup hard drive and into a new M2 mac mini. I’m wondering what would be better setting up a vM on the m2? Or running it directly on the Intel Mac mini?
Any particular reason not to use the docker installation method? If you run core you have to set up the auto start on your own.
Can you share a picture of what you see?
So continuing on from here (#general-archived message) - using the raspberry pi imager doesn't reformat the SD card?
You need to create and download a backup and flash the pi 5 version on that card, then restore.
is there an easy way to do that from a Windows machine, since that's all I have available to me right now? I'm assuming the backup isn't in the boot partition, so just copying the files off of the drive is a no go without some 3rd party tool?
No. Create a backup and download it: https://www.home-assistant.io/common-tasks/os/#backups
Anyone have this issue or know how to solve and troubleshoot this issue? Sorry for the long message.
You need python 3.12 as per the docs. You also didn't answer my question: #installation-archived message
following some other guide
Not a good idea. Stick to the official docs when asking for help here as that's what we assume you followed and know about.
Yup. I recommend the docker compose way.
For installing docker you can use this: https://docs.docker.com/engine/install/ubuntu/#install-using-the-convenience-script
It's kinda just copy and paste the config directory contents inti the docker mount point.
Or you can just use SFTP and don't have to set up anything.
I’m in the process of restoring a backup. It has been restoring over an hour now and still shows “restore in process”. However I can access it through my mobile app which uses nabu casa, and it looks mostly normal.
Is it stuck in this “restoring”, or is it actually still in process?
Is there an issue with the current github? every source I install it from says its corrupt
@mighty lily which source?
x86-64 version and Hyper-v virtual disk, when i try to set them but they are just corrupt
After restoring a backup, the zwave and zigbee integrations did not work, so I ended up deleting them and re-adding them. This seems to have deleted all of my previous devices and replaced them with default device names, etc. However, the devices are still seen as unavailable. Can I get back my old device names by doing a partial backup restore? And then, how can I get these integrations to work?
After following the installation procedures for Home Assistant on x86-64 machines, I noticed that upon system boot, I'm not receiving the assigned IP address. My device, a MINIS FORUM Model: Z83-F, is connected via cable to the router, which only shows a solid green light. Could this be an issue with the Home Assistant not recognizing the network driver?
@rancid ingot https://www.minisforum.com/ueditor/file/20210105/1609831899591787.pdf could this be related?
It can indeed be related! That makes sense! The problem is that I installed HA directly on the hardware. So my network card is disabled, and I don't know how to enable it through HA commands. Is it passible?
that document doesn't really make too much sense, I think it relates to the network port not being active after shutting down (for wake on lan purposes).
I had a quick look through the drivers they provide here: https://www.minisforum.com/front/support/3/Z83-F/W but didn't spot the ethernet drivers.
scratch that, I've found the ethernet drivers for it
it looks to be Realtek RTL8168
but, without seeing the output of the system log, I'm not sure there is a way to proceed as the device won't onboard without a network connection
can you connect a screen and keyboard?
Yes, I can connect a keyboard and a monitor. It's actually connected right now, and I'm on the HA command screen. Do you think this network issue can be solved?
I'm not sure, hopefully 🙂
Try login, then lspci
I don't know if HAOS has pciutils installed.
Someone else please chime in
@rancid ingot https://github.com/home-assistant/operating-system/issues/2630 check this out
Very similar to the case I'm facing here. I'll try to do a downgrade... I need to figure out how to download the ready-to-install image following the installation procedure through Ubuntu. Lol
Hey
could anyone explain to me how to migrate my HAOS installation from my ext. usb drive to the device itself?
I could tinker around with it but tbh I'm sort of scared to mess up my whole setup
thats partly why I want to get it off the usb and on to the main memory anyways though
technically I would think I can just move this usb freely since the whole OS seems to be on it
i don't even know what's on this device now... I thought installing HAOS would wipe out whatever was on there (pretty sure it was debian or kubuntu or whatever) but since it seems to have installed on the usb drive that the INSTALLER was on.. i dont know
There is no installer, you flash the HAOS image directly to the target. What's the device it's running on?
Is it possible to have a backup system of homeassistant on different hardware?
For example I have unraid server, and I would like to have rpi4 with ssd as a backup solution
Is it doable?
i have it opposite way, got a rpi5 as live system and also got a ha vm in standby on unraid. i also used the backup to restore the config and addons to make it runable. also i have like suggested before the unraid storage as backup location. so yes its possible.
when I try to go on http://homeassistant:local:8123 the browser print me the DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN error. How can I resolve it?
How did you install HA?
That only works for Home Assistant OS and if your network supports mDNS
For everything else just use the LAN IP, eg http://192.168.0.42:8123/
on a vm on my mac. I just followed a tutorial, idk
You should follow the official docs.
We don't know either, because you didn't even link the tutorial you followed...
Hey all, I worked myself into a pickle and I'm looking for opinions on the best way to proceed.
I've had HA installed as an appliance on ESXi for a long time and only in the last year or so started getting more into working with it. I just migrated my hypervisor from ESXi to Proxmox and it appears my HA instance no longer wants to boot.
I'm fine with installing fresh, as the previous instance was kinda cluttered with "this and that" from experimenting over the years. I don't think I want to use full HA OS this time, I found it clunky and unfamiliar, mostly. I run a lot of services currently on Docker but I see that removes the ability to use add-ons?
With the supervised install, is there anything I should beware of or know about? It seems like the option that best suits my desires and drops the undesired part of the Managed OS.
Thoughts?
Add-ons are just pieces of software that you can otherwise manually install, so you're not really losing much there if you went with HA Container
Supervised isn't recommended unless you follow the requirements exactly, and even then it's not a great choice
The only sane choices are HAOS or Container (native Docker)
Supervised is for when you want more frustration and an easily broken system (including one that can break itself just because you didn't keep on top of the requirements as they changed)
Ok got it, thanks for the feedback. Glad I asked lol
Ok so I know I use the HACS addon, so I should be able to install that manually and get addons or whatever they're called from that source still, is that right?
Yes, but HACS is a custom integration, not an add-on
HACS isn't an add-on
#integrations-archived integrate Home Assistant with devices or services, or provide functionality within Home Assistant.
#add-ons-archived provide additional software or services, which an integration could possibility integrate with. Add-ons are for Home Assistant OS and Supervised only, other install methods can install software other ways.
All custom integrations work with any install method
Actual add-ons are specific to HAOS (and Supervised)
Alright Im' finaally installing proxmox ve
this guide I skimmed through mentions configuring your bios but honestly this bios is way bigger than I expected and... meh
I just wanna try and get it working
I should just use whatever dns server I'm using now to setup proxmox right?
Even though I plan on setting up pi hoole with it
Idek what dns server i use it's set my isp
Does anyone know if I start messing with my dns etc if my isp would notice? They really shouldn't care right?]
Speeds I've been getting for the last couple years are way higher than what I pay so that's a big part of why i've been reluctant to mess with anything too much
This is so weird
I installed proxmox and connected with it's UI and I'm on it
but I don't see the proxmox device on my router list at all
so... wtf
i doubt I configured it right during install but I mean.. I'm definitely connected to it
is it possible to install home-assistant without using ethernet?
Yes but don't. How depends on the installation method.
Unable to connect to Homeassistant. unable to connect with samba share . Installed homeassistat on Proxmox VE 8.1.4, Home Assiatant OS 12.2, Core 2024.4.3.
Use the Proxmox UI to connect to the VM's console
Yes i can connect to VM console. How can i find a problem.

Huh? I didn't say anything about host info.
That's useful but please also share what I asked for.
Hmm we might need more logs. Those are quite spammy and only contain a few seconds of data. You could also try safe-mode.
I explained how to start in safe-mode here: #general-archived message
You have to enter login first to get to a shell where you can run this.
shell in Proxmox ?
root@pve:~# touch /mnt/data/supervisor/homeassistant/safe-mode
touch: cannot touch '/mnt/data/supervisor/homeassistant/safe-mode': No such file or directory
No, the VM.
In "VM console" i can't copy past and not able to use "/ "symbol ( Macbook )
Add a serial device to the VM and use xterm.
How ?
Go to the VM's Hardware page and click Add.
When you connect use the arrow next to Console and select xterm. It allows copy pasting and HAOS is set up for serial communication out of the box.
Which device add in hardware ?
https://imgur.com/SkTFu7Z
Serial Port. I thought that was obvious
Add a serial device
stuck on "starting serial terminal on interface serial0"
Hmm. Works for me. You cold booted, right? Otherwise you have to find a way to type it in yourself.

SkyConnect Connection Issues - Failed to Connect
I'm really struggling to figure out what I'm doing wrong, or is this a known issue?
Whatever it is isn't a known issue
What firmware did you flash on it?
What actual error message are you getting, and from what software?
"Failed to connect" in HA - UnRAID/HA Docker
For ZHA?
For the Multi-protocol add-on?
For something else?
If you're running HA in native Docker did you pass the stick through in the container config?
If you're using a VM on UnRAID did you pass the stick through to the VM?
SkyConnect
Just Zigbee atm, Matter later
Yes, passed though
There's no such integration
You're probably referring to ZHA though
And #zigbee-archived can help there ... at least if you move away from minimal answers and help us help you 😉

you should use network_mode: host and remove the port definition
and don't use the latest tag
use stable
Right but I am already using that port on my production HA container
Ohhh.. Okay. So host mode, then change port in configuration.yaml and don't define port in docker compose. Think I got it
yes
I think it will give me an issue when I try to deploy that that port is being used by another container though
not if it isn't
I thought docker would complain but it didn't. Almost there. Thanks
Got it. Thanks for the help
@shut rivet This might not be something you can assist me with but maybe you can direct me to someone, or have the right person check into my open issue on the Home Assistant github project? Thank you! https://github.com/home-assistant/core/issues/115858#issue-2253535411
that's most definitely not the right way to get attention
The right person will likely get a notification when an issue is created.
I've asked the question twice on here and opened a issue on github with zero response.
Follow the the supervisor and core logs during the upgrade. You can do that via docker logs -tf ....
Also, this is likely part of the reason you haven't heard back on GitHub yet lol
@raven forge Thank you. My apologies @grand pivot for asking direct. When I go days without a response to my question in this channel and there isn't a response on the github issue, I don't know what else to do. I was just looking to try and get answers not cause stir.
Try running ha core update --version 2024.4.4 in a terminal window
That said, the behavior your are describing, is indicating that a rollback is happening; meaning: The update went fine, but Home Assistant wasn't able to start up correctly. In those cases, be sure to check your Home Assistant log files for hints and error messages
Thank you @shut rivet. Again, my apologies for the direct message. Not looking to cause trouble here.
Hi guys. Installed Home Assistant OS 12.1 on RPI4 with 8gb ram via the Raspberry PI Imager. After the installation the device is connected to the network and answer to PING requests.
I try to access it on port 8123 but I get refused error message.
When I try browsing to port 4357 I see the observer webpage that shows |Supervisor:|Connected|
|Supported:|Supported|
|Healthy:|Healthy|
Whats can be the problem?
Thanks in advanced.
Run supervisor logs and core logs via keyboard & monitor.
hi, I need to change ntp server used by haas. Can someone point me to the process, I didn't find anything with google
documentation says : You can manual edit the systemd timesync file on /etc/systemd/timesyncd.conf, but there is no systemd in the /etc
You need to be on the console, not in the SSH add-on
remember me how to access console please
Instructions in that link list the required steps to edit files. If you are running HAOS, you won't be able to edit the file because of the read only filesystem so you'll have to use the method described.
"Failed to start wait until kernel time synchronized home assistant". How to solve?"
yes
What hardware are you running on?
HA yellow
No sorry. the hardware is rasperry pi 4
With one network, the installation works; with another, it doesn't."
What "network" are you referring to?
internet network
HAOS needs unrestricted internet access for startup (at least if no RTC is present afaik)
And...?
You said it works in one and not the other? Does it work with the internet and not without it? Because that's expected and normal for HAOS
You'd need to change the NTP servers
Both networks have internet access, but it works on one and not the other.
One network has a route to the NTP server, one doesn't..
are you sure?
So what's different between them?
Is the cabling known working without issues?
problem solved
And? What was it?
The Home Assistant installation process requires a network without a firewall. From the second access, it's possible to connect the Home Assistant hub and your PC to another network (with a firewall) and thus reach the new IP address.
So, it didn't actually have internet access?
Yes, it had internet access.
Ok so I've created a timesyncd.conf as described in the doc. Mounted the usb key on my VM, rebooted but ntp didn't change. Is there a way to see boot log or any other step to debug ?
You can put this USB stick into the device and it will be read on startup and files written to the correct places. You can also trigger this process later using ha os import from the CLI or by calling systemctl restart hassos-config on the OS shell
yes, i've tested both but no change
I'm not sure what the output is supposed to be once you run those commands, but you should be able to at least check if anything has changed by reading the contents of /etc/systemd/timesyncd.conf from the OS shell (ie. with a monitor and keyboard attached and using login)
tx... i was looking for this magic command "login" !
just a quick vi in the file and change is done 🙂 better and faster then the usb key...
probably won't stick when you reboot
Advise please. To run 8 cameras. What would be a good processor. I’m looking for affordable?
#cameras-archived can better answer that, if you explain what "run" means
Hi, I was wondering if it is possible to secure haos console by a password for example.
How can I reset the password in the home assistant green without a micro SD?
How can I reset the password in the home
Good day, I have setup my home assistant on a proxmox VM and want to put it behind a nginx reverse proxy.
Issue is that i'm getting 400 bad request errors
I see heaps of solutions saying "Use trusted proxy setting yaml" but I can't find where that is.
Any suggestions?
Thanks, I was looking at the page and it wasn't making sense. I missed a tiny link that explains where the config goes
Hey everyone, I have been going around in circles trying to fix this simple connection error while I am trying to finish my HAOS install. I just purchased my first Pi4, and was able to remote into it and connect to the internet and everything. I then set up a second SD card with HAOS using the Pi Imager, but when I go to connect and finish the install I get this:
Oh, I can't post a screenshot LOL

and it retries endlessly
I have tried changing router DNS settings, trying to turn on IPv6, flashing a fresh SD card, and a bunch of other little things
I can see it as connected in my router admin panel as well
I can post logs if that helps! Just not really sure where to go from here, havn't ever messed around with RPi before so this is all new to me. If I could get a CLI going I could at least throw commands at it until I figure it out, but I havn't had luck with that yet.
Connected over Ethernet to my router FYI 🙂
I just noticed the Pi Imager is giving me 12.1, surely that isn't the issue? It would just update me?
Have you tried rebooting the rPi? Completely remove the power and then let it sit for about 10 seconds and plug it back in.
I have actually tried that a bunch 😦 I will do it again for good measure
Maybe now that I asked for help it will fix itself
lol stranger things have happened.
Worse comes to worse, standard troubleshooting might work here too... changing the ethernet cable, using a different port on the switch, etc.
12.1 is the version of Home Assistant OS, not Home Assistant (Core), so that's fine
Yeah, failed Supervisor update again, 500 Server Error and timeout
Hmmm, that's strange. Have you tried re-imaging the card?
Yeah, twice I have flashed a new HAOS install. If I do it again I might try another SD card... But it gets me to the installer it just won't get past that Supervisor update so it seems unlikely it's corrupted, right?
It seems dumb but for the moment I have it plugged directly into my cable modem to see if it will progress at all, then I can put it back on the network and check? 😂😅😥😔
I've seen a few posts on the forums with people having that 500 error on install, but I never found out what actually causes it. Let me poke around for a minute and see if I can find any solved posts.
Yeah, the posts that I'm finding are all still unsolved. tbh, I'm not really sure what to do. Some people said to try changing DNS settings on the router to 8.8.8.8 and 9.9.9.9 (google dns). But some people also said that didn't work.
hello i am trying to install haos via hyper V but it either wont start at all or it gives this error saying the unisgined image has is not allowed
Can you post the actual error message?
i cant post pictures
Post it up to imgur and post that link
Did you follow the steps here? https://www.home-assistant.io/installation/windows
yes
Yeah, I saw those as well and tried the DNS swap, and still no luck on my end even after bypassing my router
Any ideas for a work-around maybe?
I'm bugging some of the other regulars in the forum to see if anyone else might have a fix. TBH, I'm a bit stumped. It feels like an OS issue, but I didn't see any bugs on the github about it.
Wow, thank you, I really appreciate it. Let me share a pastebin of my log in case someone smarter than me is able to see something obvious there.
The one thing that is bugging me (and others) is the encoding of the http+docker://localhost/v1.43/images/create?tag=2024.4.4&fromImage=ghcr.io%2Fhome-assistant%2Fraspberrypi4-64-homeassistant&platform=linux%2Farm64 line. I'm not sure if the error message is encoding it that way OR if docker is actually trying to pull that URI.
Yeah, why is it looking at localhost for the image? To me that seems odd but a lot of this I am not super familiar with
Didn't forget about you. The only thing I could suggest would be to maybe turn off secure boot and see if that solves it? OR try re-downloading the image file and attaching it again?
That part isn't abnormal really. I'm kinda curious to see if you could load up Debian and docker on the rPi and then try a HA Container install. Just to see what it does. But that doesn't solve the root cause though.
Nope. They don't build isos. But on all three hypervisors it failed? That smells like a machine problem rather than a HA problem. Do you have other VMs running?
Machine or networking...
two diffrent pcs
and no other vms
Broken IPv6 maybe?
it wont even post withou IPv6?
Wait what?
If you have broken IPv6 then that can cause problems
So, if it get's an IPv6 address but can't actually connect to the world... that's a problem
i see
i am connceted to a windows domain dns on the computers in question besides the domain controller it's self
maybe thats it?
Hi, New to home assistant. an intern did a setup for me a few years ago and I can not remember the user name or the password. I tried to look on google how to retrieve but to no avail. my raspberry pi boots automatically and I can not stop it to go fishing in the files to find the user.
am I doomed to just re-start from the beginning? anyone has an idea where I could start to try and retrieve the info.
I am locked out of the console too!
thank you all.
Can you connect a monitor and keyboard to the rPi and access it that way?
Through HDMI cable yes, but same problem I do not have user name and password to log in.
If you try root with no password, that should let you in.
you are a genious, i did not think of that. I'm in!!!!
now I can do the steps on the web site
Ha! Happy to help. From there, you should be able to follow the directions in https://www.home-assistant.io/docs/locked_out/
Yup! Exactly.
And welcome (back) to home assistant 🙂
thank you soo much
Anytime!
Sounds like you have a very old install
lol I wasn't broaching that yet 😉
I'd strongly recommend a backup and restore on a fresh install
I have homassistant core installed and working well on an ubuntu 22.04 server install. It is using the system python 3.10.0. I'd like to update the installation to use python 3.12.3 so i can update to a newer version of HA. I used the VENV steps when I installed HA. I've tried a bunch of things, but so far I haven't gotten HA to see anything but Python 3.10 according to the dialog in my settings.
How can I get HA to use a more recent version of python without breaking my system python install?
Use pyenv
Or, better, use Docker
I say that as somebody who an HA in a venv from 2016 until earlier this year
i think I used venv during setup. Do you know how to upgrade the python version used by the venv? I've installed pyenv, but I can't figure out how to make sure when HASS is invoked as a system task that it is using the correct python version from the venv
Same as before really
Activate the venv, install HA in the venv, update the systemd unit file
But ... don't do it
Use Docker
Yeah, seconded... use Docker. Super simple, no worrying about python versions or anything else.
If you want the hard route then you systemd file will look like:
[Unit]
Description=Home Assistant
After=network-online.target
[Service]
Type=simple
User=homeassistant
ExecStart=/data/homeassistant/.pyenv/versions/venv-3.12.1/bin/hass -c "/data/homeassistant/.homeassistant" --log-rotate-days 1
[Install]
WantedBy=multi-user.target
Update the paths to reflect your reality
But honestly, switch to Docker, so easy to do
@humble mirage Are there any plans to actually remove the core venv install from the site anytime soon?
Damnit.
Doubtful. Kill supervised
Compose file to use the existing venv config: https://gist.github.com/DubhAd/d79ee964d5411d566d2fab65cc61b26f
venv remains valid for the few hosts that can't run Docker - like FreeBSD
At least Docker on Windows is finally coming into the modern world with host networking
Yeah, I know... it's just a pain to support. Fortunately we don't get too many posts about it on the forums anymore.
Eh... IMO it's not hard to support, not like Supervised
But a lot of people who run it probably shouldn't
Oh, I avoid supervised topics like the black plague. I recommend docker and move on quickly.
So, any other ideas for me to try? I really seem to be sort of stuck here at this Supervisor download
Honestly? Unless you absolutely need addons (and imho, no one does), I'd try the Container install and see what happens. Container has all the base parts of HA without Supervisor (which I'm actively not a supporter of) and without addons support. But, nearly all the things you would need an addon for you can run in additional docker containers. It's a bit more to setup (but not much), but it runs pretty much flawlessly. I will state that ALL of this is my opinion and what has worked for me for years now. I've never run HAOS.
But, yeah, I got nothing on that 500 error. There are a few forum posts where people have hit it and there's really been no solution for it and I haven't seen any github issues logged for it either, at least not for HAOS itself.
You basically have to run the docker pull yourself to get useful information. The host logs can also sometimes help here.
For the 500 error in HAOS install?
Yes.
Interesting. I know some of the regs in the forums have tried to troubleshoot it a bit, but I don't see how someone would actually run the docker pull command since it never seems to get to the CLI. Any tips for that? I would love to be able to solve some of those forum posts.
Yeah, I was hoping there was a way I was missing to open the CLI.
I did share a pastebin with some logs earlier, here is the link: https://pastebin.com/q79BMDNJ
So, if you just let it run, does it ever drop down to a shell prompt?
So it never drops to a prompt... yeah, I'm not sure it will ever get that far. IF you want, I can walk you through setting up Container (or just follow the docs) and we can see if that works. I'm pretty certain between me and the other regs we can get you setup pretty quickly.
I am willing to do that, but it is... disappointing that with a brand new in box RPi, a fresh SD card, and following the instructions to the letter from the Home Assistant website I am running into such an unsolvable issue
Also, I would definietly create a bug ticket on https://github.com/home-assistant/core/issues/ as well and include your log there.
No, I get it. I would rather see the full HAOS install go through as well (less typing for me lol), but sometimes there are just things that can't be accounted for 🤷♂️ Obvs I'm open to other suggestions from people that do run HAOS as well.
There might be a hotkey like CTRL+ALT+F2 but I'm not sure. Can test later.
I expected it to put you into the emergency shell. I tried to debug this with a lot of people having similar docker pull issues in the past. I can't remember the terms to find the thread I wanted to link.
If you can find something I can throw into the forums, I'd appreciate it. These seem to come up in spurts and then fade away again... all types of different hardware/net configs. It's just weird.
It is really odd. I have a bunch of other home automation/networking stuff never I have had any issues with, usually just plug it in, so having to even think about router settings is not something I have dealt with in a long time.
Ha! Yeah... HA is much more than a simple hub. But, to be fair, with everything HA can do, it's not surprising that it can be complex at times. But compared to things like Hubitat, Smartthings, hell, even Homey, there are things that HA can do that simply blows them out of the water. And yeah, I've had all of them (except for Homey Pro, which I hear is kinda close to HA... ish).
HAOS' DNS is a bit complicated: #1176295714108747807 message
The above is just an excerpt from one of the many tedious troubleshooting sessions where DNS was involved.
It does seem to be having some issues, but my network setup is probably as standard as they come. Netgear Nighthawk with near default settings into Verizon FiOS modem.
Even a misconfigured NTP server can cause failure to install. It's just so many variables and without a shell to troubleshoot it's kinda hard to fix. I'll try to reproduce your issue later by creating a fresh HAOS VM where DNS is completely blocked so it can't install anything.
Ugh, yeah, I definitely understand the struggle. Thank you so much for the help. Let me know if you need anything from my side.
Same! I'd still say try the Container install (just follow the docs) and if you get stuck, ping me and I'd be happy to help you out.
I created a fresh VM from the haos_ova-12.2.qcow2 with a disconnected NIC. Just disabling DNS needs a few more steps. It still boots into the CLI after 2~ minutes of trying to synchronize the time.
And that's what makes it so damn weird. I've yet to really see a pattern that screams "THIS IS IT!". I've seen it happen on rPis, proxmox, other VMs, etc.
!!! I got up for 20 minutes and I came back and it finished
As a final hail mary I tried connecting it to my phone and tethering the mobile connection, when I reconnected it looked like it hadn't worked, but it must have downloaded enough to proceed!
You will have to get the developers to add that to the official instructions now 😛
Seriously?! It eventually finished?
I am about to try the user setup, wish me luck 😄
That's awesome but also WHY?!?!?! Ok, let me make sure I get it. So, you disconnected from the Netgear and tethered over WiFi to your phone and it eventually finished?
Can you try the following commands one after another in the CLI?
login
nsloookup google.com
nslookup google.com 1.1.1.1
ha network info
ha dns info
ha resolution info
It's just to verify your current networking and DNS settings and see if there's issues.
Btw I tested the CTRL+ALT+F2. It works but isn't useful during boot.
I actually plugged in a USB to ethernet dongle to my phone and connected to that instead of my router
LOL bonus points for ingenuity.
Sure, I am totally new to this still, can I launch CLI from the web interface? or do I need SSH?
You can run all those commands via SSH. Just ignore the login in this case. That's just to get out of the HA CLI. Otherwise a keyboard and monitor works as well but isn't as convenient.
So, I tried to login via PuTTy and it was refusing the connection.
The good news is my dinner is here! Oh, and I got all logged in and I am able to control some local devices! 🙂
I will attempt that when I can get back to the PC though. Thank you again for the help!
HAOS does not run a SSH server by default and the one you can enable is meant for developers/tinkerers. There's SSH addons you can install.

Probably a better question for the openwrt folks. What's your docker version?
this is not openwrt os,it‘s just that hostname happens to be the openwrt。[root@openwrt home-assistant]# cat /etc/redhat-release

@mystic geyser I converted your message into a file since it's above 15 lines :+1:
Kinda old. See if docker logout ghcr.io fixes things. If not try the image from the docker registry.
Random one from a hypervisor standpoint. Anyone got any feelings on Umbrel OS vs. Unraid? Considering moving off Proxmox because it seems overkill for what I want.
I have never heard of umbrel OS until now. What is the actual issue you have and would be solved by switching? HA can be considered overkill too so that's not really a good reason.
HA is already running in a VM as HAOS, which I am fine with. However, I have a bunch of other services that I would like to run in docker, but I only have experience with Linux/docker through Synology's manicured DSM OS. So I have a Debian docker host in Proxmox currently, but no idea on how to properly secure it, how to sync/backup my docker directories, and how to generally sysadmin it (and no real reason to want to learn if I can get away with it as it's not that transferrable in my industry). Was hoping that an even more "containerized" host OS/hypervisor would let me do that easier.
You could install these OSs as additional VM or install portainer as docker GUI in your debian VM. I'm not a fan of such OSs. I barely tolerate HAOS. I'd recommend checking portainer out. Personally I just use docker compose. Getting help with portainer is harder. PVE makes backing up and snapshotting a whole VM very simple. If you use portainer I'd recommend the stacks.
To be clear, I don't have any problem with docker CLI/docker compose (pretty much all my containers are composed). I run dockge for a simple front-end. It's more the underlying OS running it that I have no idea how to admin.
I have an unraid server that I started using around the same time as the first versions of HAOS. It’s great for VMs and docker “apps” and adding more storage as you go along. It began as media server and storage but is now running all kinds of things. HA can be run as the container or as the HAOS VM. It’s the fastest HA I have but my prod HA is running on a separate device. I prefer it to proxmox. I might check out umbrel os on a spare NUC
Great feedback thanks! I may consider ditching Synology and going DIY in the future which is another reason I was Unraid-curious.
UmbrelOS reminds me of the Zima board which I don’t care for but I wanted to check it out
My biggest "hol' up" with Umbrel is how much they are pushing the crypto angle with it. Kinda the same reason I dumped Brave as a browser.
Yeah, that’s how it started as I understand. Same hesitation here 😆
scam hardware but the OS is legit? not sure
maybe casaOS is a better alternative?
Haha, was just gonna say - that thread made me learn about casaOS.
Might have to spin up both CasaOS and Unraid trial on the weekend to see which I will prefer. CasaOS looks pretty good, but it's developed in Shanghai (still open source though), so support/adoption/community is likely to be less than ideal.
CasaOS has been nothing but a cluster fuck for most users who try it specifically for home assistant
I can imagine
why when i reboot my os (ubuntu server) HA whrite nothing in the the /config and is backup nothing?

Ah, that's the problem. You need the full path to that folder in the compose config. So, if it's under a user, then it should be something like /home/homeassistant if the user is homeassistant.
thx
Good morning, I set up 2 factor authentication on my google authenticator for home assistant and can't find my 4 digit code. Do I have to start all over with home assistant or can I get in another way?
an update on my networking issues: I came back after dinner last night and started to play around in the dashboard, but I was still getting critical system health warning, and the same networking errors when I tried to update. I wasn't even able to launch the CLI add-on or get SSH to work in that state.
I plugged it back into my phone and left it, and it was able to finish updating though. Pretty funny.
No more errors for now! I will see if I can get into CLI and look into it
I figured we weren't done. Run the commands I gave you and share their output. Do this while connected normally without your phone.
Well, it didn't take long to run into the same issue. Not able to launch the web terminal add-on. 502: Bad Gateway.
Gotta use a keyboard and monitor then. But check the addin log first. Might be a simple misconfiguration.
Yeah, I placed an order last night for a micro HDMI should be here by tomorrow. I'll have a look now.
Seems as if I can't open the log from the interface without starting the add-on.
The addon overview itself where you can start/stop it should have a tab for logging.
Oh, thank you I see now.
Okay, it wanted me to set a password in config. I'm in! Gonna try those commands now.
Please use a code share site to share code or logs, for example:
- https://dpaste.org/ (select YAML for the language, and consider picking a longer expiry)
- http://pastie.org/ (select YAML for the language)
- https://paste.debian.net/ (you guessed it, select YAML as the language)
Please don't use Pastebin, since it can randomly add spaces to the main view. Please also don't share text as images since it makes it harder for people to help you. Remember that others may have colour blindness, impaired vision, etc.
My IPv4/6 settings it reported look odd, going to continue, should I share a pastebin?
See above: #installation-archived message
It seems like copying from the web terminal is it's own puzzle.
Best to use a SSH client.
I think that would be easiest as well
ipv4:
address: []
gateway: null
method: disabled
nameservers: []
seems odd to me
Another thing you can do is to edit the .tmux.conf and replace set -g mouse on with #set -g mouse on. Then reload.
Or you can press CTRL+A, : and then write set -g mouse off at the bottom and press enter. This is just temporary though.
This has recently been fixed btw: https://github.com/hassio-addons/addon-ssh/pull/723
Not sure when it's released.
Ahhhh, impressive trick!
Well, it does have another IPv4 entry below that so now I am not sure. I know nothing.
DNS lookups seem okay and return the same for your local DNS server and for 1.1.1.1. But maybe it used 8.8.8.8 the first time.
The address at the top is for the docker network. HAOS uses docker containers for almost everything. See here: #general-archived message
Interestingly WiFi seems to be enabled. Maybe that causes issues?
You can disable it with ha network update --disabled wlan0 and enable again with ha network update wlan0 --ipv4-method auto.
The ethernet is connected and has an ip. Looks okay as well. The only issue it "complains" about is missing backups. Since you could install the SSH addon networking seems to work right now.
I will continue to try stuff out and see if I run into any more network issues. I turned on Wifi just to test things last night, is there a way to tell if it is favoring that over my ethernet?
Maybe an issue with the network driver from the RPi Imager and my specific network chip I got stuck with? It does seem to be working without error after the updates were able to go through.
Usually ethernet gets the preference.nmcli might have away to show it. I don't know how at the top of my head.
Try nmcli -f NAME,DEVICE,TYPE,ACTIVE,STATE,AUTOCONNECT-PRIORITY connection.
AFAIK, this is always the case.
Cool! Thank you again for all the help! Y'all are doing a great service in here by sharing your knowledge.
Happy to help!
I just added a USB WiFi device to my HAOS VM and ha network info now looks like this: https://dpaste.org/p5Tw1/raw
It was never configured so it doesn't even show up with nmcli:
# nmcli -f NAME,DEVICE,TYPE,ACTIVE,STATE,AUTOCONNECT-PRIORITY connection
NAME DEVICE TYPE ACTIVE STATE AUTOCONNECT-PRIORITY
Supervisor enp0s18 enp0s18 ethernet yes activated 0
lo lo loopback yes activated 0
After enabling it like this: https://github.com/home-assistant/operating-system/blob/dev/Documentation/network.md#enabling-wi-fi
it shows up like this:
# nmcli -f NAME,DEVICE,TYPE,ACTIVE,STATE,AUTOCONNECT-PRIORITY connection
NAME DEVICE TYPE ACTIVE STATE AUTOCONNECT-PRIORITY
Supervisor enp0s18 enp0s18 ethernet yes activated 0
Supervisor wlp2s27u1 wlp2s27u1 wifi yes activated 0
lo lo loopback yes activated 0
See here for its ha network info output: https://dpaste.org/zs8jX/raw
See here for how to modify priority: https://askubuntu.com/a/722010
If we investigate this further we should create a thread 🙂
good afternoon all, is there a reason why a python upgrade might be "held back"?
I noticed when I was doing my updates that I got a message about python not being upgraded and I think it is affecting my HA performance somehow
I get the following message: The following packages have been kept back:
python3-update-manager tracker-extract tracker-miner-fs update-manager update-manager-core
I am noticing a lot of .py errors in my log
and I think it is causing HA to crash.
What did you run exactly? What's your python version?
hey, im trying to install home assistant on docker. I created the docker-compose.yaml from the home assistant install guide and changed the volume to my local drive listed. when I save and try to run docker compose up it says yaml: line 5: mapping values are not allowed in this context. any ideas?
Please share the file.
Please use a code share site to share code or logs, for example:

No. Please read the message again. Identation and formatting is important for yaml. We can't judge it like this.
I'm not sure why it's indented like this but it definitely does not look like here: https://www.home-assistant.io/installation/linux#docker-compose
It's important that the yaml is valid which this is not. Make sure you use a proper editor like VS Code notepad++, nano, vim, etc.
probably because am just using windows terminal and coppied and pasted from the same code you provided. but, it does seem to change the format.
You can check validity here: https://jsonformatter.org/yaml-validator
@cyan granite I don't do DM's. Stop pinging me. You have a question it happens in one of the channels.
Portainer is not supported. Use it at your own risk. I don't decide what is supported and what causes things to break. What I'm saying is just a fact.
I'm guessing a bit, but usually the OS updates affect docker software itself, but seldom the stuff that's running in it. You should look other places why your OS updates are having a problem. (At your own risk, don't blame me) but you could try to force the update by installing (into your computer OS) aptitude and trying the update again using that instead of apt. I use it, but it sometimes asks questions and you have to know the right answers...
Sorry WhatAreWeFixing.Today all I was trying to find out was if anybody knew what it meant if apt upgrade did not seem to upgrade python.
You have still not answered any questions or shared information.
when I do my updates to HA, I update the system as well with apt update, apt full-upgrade -y, then I clean up with apt autoremove -y, then I do my docker pulls, etc. But I noticed that my python was bitching about upgrading and I was just curious if anybody MIGHT know why.
Or if it not upgrading would affect how HA runs.
Please share exactly what it says and where.
the issue occurs after the apt update and I get this: Hit:1 https://download.docker.com/linux/ubuntu jammy InRelease

The following packages have been kept back:
python3-update-manager tracker-extract tracker-miner-fs update-manager update-manager-core
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 5 not upgraded.
I am trying to determine why 5 are not upgraded and why that package is held back.
That's not directly related to HA. Especially not if HA is in a docker container. See here for why this happens and how to troubleshoot: https://www.google.com/search?q="python3-update-manager"+held+back
Would it indirectly be related if python could not update?
Who says that python cannot update? Just because the package has python in the name doesn't mean anything: https://packages.ubuntu.com/jammy/python3-update-manager
I figured if the update manager needs to be updated then maybe python can't update?
To be clear the python on the host has nothing to do with a python app in a container. That's the beauty of it. A app in a container could use a much newer version than your OS provides in its repos. Python is provided by the python3 package. I wonder why you even have update-manager installed. Does your server have a GUI/Desktop Environment?
Yes.
Ok, so whats in the docker containers are not using what may be running on the server
No.
and I am guessing that the pulls that are done is where those updates would come from
If you don't believe me run these
python3 --version
docker exec -it homeassistant sh -c "python3 --version"
Your OS is likely using a different version than the HA image.
||Yes I know the sh is not needed. I use it to make it clear what the command is and it works for everything||
Ok, then I guess I need to look elsewhere for where the problem is coming from
Not necessarily a problem: #installation-archived message
Thank you, I really appreciate the help!
Just sad it took so much time and many messages.
I appreciate your patience. It's confusing sometimes to determine the best place to ask the question.
Hello,
I just setup HA, but I cant connect to it using my local ip 192.168.1.55:8132, but the homeassistant.local:8132 does work. I know for sure it's located on this local IP, what am i doin gwrong?
Im running HA inside a VM on a synology NAS
Please run ha network info in the CLI. 8132? Did you write it correctly each time?
Hopefully able to get some insight here. I've been running HAOS virtually(VMWare) inside of Windows on a SFF PC for 2 years now. Its worked and worked well. I went that route because im proficient in the hardware and Windows OS. My process aws simple, before any HA changes\updates id perform VM snapshots for easy restorations if something went wrong. Also there would be quarterly full Windows OS backups that would allow for full bare metal restores to another SFF PC in a drastic scenario.
At this point im looking to advance the setup to something more self manageable in the forms of failover. Im thinking a ProxyMox cluster for HA high availability would be the way to go. Ive been researching a bit and have some questions below hopefully someone can provide some guidance\help on. For an overview, my HA ecosystem consists of about 175 devices. Everything from zwave and zigbee switches, locks, lights, sensors, buttons, ESP32 devices, google homes, etc. I have a ConBee II and ZWave USB dongle as the main coordinators.
- Migration to ProxMox. I can figure out the whole ProxMox setup as theres tons of tutorials. But my biggest concern is getting my current HA setup migrated over to it and not having to start fresh. Is that possible? Is there a migrate or backup\restore\copy type ability? Or do I really have to install HA fresh in a ProxMox container and start everything all over from readopting\adding\configuring devices, the whole nine?
- Related to the above, im assuming id need to switch my coordinators to RJ45\PoE\Network based instead of USB, in order for the ProxMox cluster to be able to succesfully leverage them in a failover fashion correct? What does that migration look like from my current USB coordinators? I have ZWaveJS and ZHA currently. I like stuff to be simple and realiable.
- MiniPCs. As i mentioned I used an overpowered SFF LEnovo M75Q TinyPC. All it does is run VMWare to run my HAOS machine. Looking at PRoxMox in a 3 node cluster it seems like the $100-$200 N100 MiniPCs are a good way to go. But there are so many options from here to china. Are some chipsets more comptible with ProxMox then others? Any reccomendations on models?
i've tried to mount the HAOS image on multiple devices, extracted the file on multiple devices and i'm always getting an error, that the image is broken
extracted the file on windows via 7zip and on linux, and the .img always gives me an error
Hello there, Can you help me to install HAOS on my MacMini/Catalina with VirtualBox, I'v got this error :
"....supervisor.docker.interface] Can't install ghcr.io/home-assistant/qemux86-64-homeassistant:2024.4.3: 500 Server Error for http+docker://localhost/v1.44/images/create?tag=2024.4.3&fromImage=ghcr.io%2Fhome-assistant%2Fqemux86-64-homeassistant&platform=linux%2Famd64: Internal Server Error ("Get "https://ghcr.io/v2/": dial tcp: lookup ghcr.io: Temporary failure in name resolution") [supervisor.homeassistant.core] Error on Home Assistant installation. Retrying in 30sec [supervisor.host.sound] Updating PulseAudio information [supervisor.host.manager] Host information reload completed [supervisor.jobs] 'Updater.fetch_data' blocked from execution, no supervisor internet connection
What you you trying to achieve with that? There is no HAOS iso.
.img, sorry. for me that's all iso
with the .img? i want to load that into proxmox
Why extract it on windows then? Download it on your PVE node and simply use qm disk import VMID haos_ova-*.qcow2 STORAGE.
I use with VirtuaBox file: "haos_ova-12.2.vdi"
i'm using the webgui.. new to the whole VM thing
I have copy/paste an extract of preparing logs during install
Run this in the node's shell
wget https://github.com/home-assistant/operating-system/releases/download/12.2/haos_ova-12.2.qcow2.xz
unxz haos_ova-12.2.qcow2.xz
qm disk import VMID haos_ova-12.2.qcow2 STORAGE
Replace VMID with your VM's ID. 100 for example. And STORAGE with your storage. local-lvm for example.
thank you very much, i'll try that!
Remember to go to VM > Options and add the newly added disk as boot option.
Hi there. I was hoping somene with more knowledge of the inner setup of HAOS could give me a hand.
I did a restore from a pi3 onto a pi5. I'm having a truckload of problems. First among them is there seems to be a DNS forwarder issue. If I go into the terminal and do an nslookup ... it doesn't work.
What does nslookup google.com 1.1.1.1 and ha network info say?
Seems weird to have two DNS server in different subnets like that.
that works fine.
If I tell nslookup to use a different server then it has no problem.
It's just when the server is the 127.0.0.11
which is what is in resolv.conf
I assume there's a service running on poort 53 locally that's supposed to be forwarding to the assigned DNS server.
I link you to something which explains this in detail soon. Please give me the command outputs first so we can fix this.
I asked for ha network info. I can see in nslookup's output which server it uses.
Alright try this
ha dns options --servers dns://192.168.6.1
ha dns restart
You can also use 1.1.1.1 here. Then try nslookup google.com again. The restart is probably not necessary. Use it if it still doesn't work.
Now about that information I promised. HAOS uses a docker container named hassio_dns for DNS: https://github.com/home-assistant/plugin-dns
That's the 172.30.32.3. Here's a bit of stuff that might be interesting to you: #1176295714108747807 message
Also see a few messages below for more.
THat's the first thing I tried. ha dns options...
mh doesn't work :/ made it only boot from that one disk containing HAOS but on boot it shows "no bootable device"
What's weird is that you set 192.168.0.1 while your host is in 192.168.6.1.
You can also try ha dns options --fallback=false if the steps above don't resolve it.
Please share your VM's Hardware and Options tab. Maybe you enabled secure boot.
both .6.1 and .0.1 are the same machine. The 0.1 was for when the the ethernet was plugged in
That's supposed to be your gateway. I recommend to set it to 1.1.1.1 for now.
I think the ha dns plugin is not up
You can check with ha dns info and ha dns stats.
@opal wharf Please use imgur or other image sharing web sites, and share the link here.
Image posting is blocked in most channels to discourage people from sharing text as images. Sharing text as images assumes that everybody sees the world as you do, which isn't the case. Some people are colour blind, or have visual impairment that means they can't make sense of an image of text.
scsi1 is the drive with the HAOS installation files
~~No it's not. It's scsi1. Look at the size. ~~You also need to enable UEFI boot like it explains in the docs.
huh? isn't that what i said?
I can only suggest to disable fallback and a reboot at this point. Check ha network info and ha dns info again afterwards.
It is. Sorry.
Good find. Install the Advanced SSH plugin, configure it, disable its protection mode and restart it. Then run docker ps | grep dns.
Actually wait. I still recommend the advanced SSH addon for its docker support but it's not needed right now.
Try ha dns update --version 2024.03.0. You can upgrade to the current latest with ha dns update --version 2024.04.0.
Hi, I've been trying to install Home Assistant OS on VirtualBox on my laptop that unfortunately, does not have an ethernet port. I have a two questions regarding installation and after installation.
If i use an usb to ethernet adapter and install Home Assistant OS on VirtualBox that would work right?
The other question is after successfully installing the HA OS and the HA browser successfully loads, will it be possible to open the browser using a wireless connection instead of a wired connection?
I hope the questions make sense. Thank you! 🙂
1.) Yes and that is preferred. WiFi NICs don't bridge reliably or at all.
2.) That should be fine.
alright thank you so much and thanks for the fast reply 🙂 ! One more question, will there be any settings to change in order to use wireless connection?
Where?
change any settings on the Home Assistant browser i mean if there is any?
@solemn merlin I converted your message into a file since it's above 15 lines :+1:
took me a while to get advnaced ssh working
Ok looks like that fixed it. Updating the version from SSH I mean
We had similar issues a while ago. Just search ha dns update here. I never figured out what caused it or maybe I just forgot.
Sorry I missed your message. No. WiFi is only a concern for the device/server/VM that runs HA. Whether you use WiFi or ethernet to access the frontend doesn't really matter.
Hopefully able to get some insight here. I've been running HAOS virtually(VMWare) inside of Windows on a SFF PC for 2 years now. Its worked and worked well. 1.) You can simply backup through HAOS, download that and restore it on the new VM: https://www.home-assistant.io/common-tasks/os/#backups
2.) Better asked in #zigbee-archived and #zwave-archived respectively. Zigbee should be easy to migrate depending on which coordinator you have/use.
3.) Better asked in #hardware-archived. N100 based ones often have a good price to performance ratio. (U)SFFs can be a better choice in some cases.
thanks!
@jagged rose I converted your message into a file since it's above 15 lines :+1:
Hi All. Just recived my HAG yesterday and will start soon the installation. Just a quick question pls. Can I use a longer network cable that the one provided in the box? Thanks
Sure. Use whatever length cable you need.
Thanks!
I have a longer cat 6 I think should be fine as well since the one provided is a 5E.
You can go with whatever you have on hand. They only provide a cable as a convenience. 😊
And thanks again!
Hey folks
Would anyone mind helping with proxmox installation/config?
I'm about to just try installing again, the damn webUI isn't even loading now.
Gotta drag out the keyboard; why did God make life so demanding
We'd need a bit more information. There's discord servers for proxmox btw.
hey man
yeah I should i look those up I'm gunna do thatr
Should I try to get info before re-installign?
At this point I think it would be easier/less time to just install again
Because I really didn't make any progress
I would not reinstall at this point. Describe the issues you have and share configs. We can then run some commands to find the cause and fix.
Alright lemme grab the monitor too then
smashes monitor
webui was working before..
either it broke when I dropped it
or the config I tried last time DID do something
Alright im booting up
the weird thing was the ui worked... but router didn't show it at all
PVE does not use DHCP after install. If you were looking at leases then that's normal. Let's thread this.
ok I it's booted up
yeah once I saw that it wasn't on the router but webUI worked I knew I was out of my depths
haven't learned networking stuff much and haven't look at it in years
ok how do we thread lemme see
appreciate it
PVE does not use DHCP after install. If
I would like to have a HA installation for testing so I don't mess up my working HA Blue installation (which I do screw up occasionally).
So, can I directly restore a HA Blue backup to say a Linux VM HA installation (I've never used VMs before) or even another dedicated small computer?
I ask because of all the file paths, host IP addresses, etc. which I believe are unique to each installation.
Just trying to not go down a rabbit hole if it is not possible to do it.
That should work but you might have to change/disable a few things. Like say static ips, host names, automations and so on. You don't want ip conflicts or automations running twice.
Thanks, I'll try it then.
In case it helps, here is a useful link: https://www.home-assistant.io/common-tasks/os/#restoring-a-backup-during-onboarding
how to run a specific OS version using cli?
found ha os update --version 12.2
hello! I tried installing hass on hyper-v and it worked until someday it just went down, tried restarting it nothing. I tried reinstalling it and it says failed to install home assistant, turns out I can't actually install hass using the external network configuration? It works just fine for the default one? Can anyone help pls, thanks
Please share exactly what it says. Perhaps as a picture.
well i successfully installed it, but I can't access it from outside
basically the last log iirc is system autofix complete
https://imgur.com/a/FNDnibR this is the last image i have of the error
I don't see anything useful there. I'd just in the CLI at that point and check ha supervisor logs and ha core logs.
Or perhaps download the raw logs for more information.
Re-create it 😉
Could not resolve host: github.com
no supervisor internet connection
Is it possible your NIC changed and the bridge is thus invalid?
Please run ncpa.cpl and show me a picture of it, one of your VM's network settings and one of the switch in Hyper-V'sVirtual Switch Manager.
Wireless cannot be reliably bridged. Please use ethernet.
that's the problem
I can't get ethernet to my room
and I'm running it on my laptop
Not sure what else to tell you. Powerline is 💩 so that's not an option I can recommend.
Perhaps you could host it on a (U)SFF or Mini PC instead? Or put the notebook somewhere else? Why can't you get ethernet in your room?
I can't get ethernet into my room because this is an apartment and I can't drill through the walls to fit in my ethernet cable
hmm, moving the laptop? that's a good idea
but idrk about cooling
Check the lease if they say anything about drilling holes. You can check your temperatures with this: https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/systemmonitor/
If you use a VM on windows you can check it with HWiNFO or similar tools.
does it report system temperature in hyper-v?
No.
maybe something with like hass.agent?
don't want to check around the lease lol, I have to do somethings with my parents then
Different location it is then.
don't have the money
No I mean different location for the laptop 😄
lmao
i just realised
sorry2
🤣
then i will try
thanks for the tip!
and if i got ethernet should i use it with hyper-v or virtualbox?
I recommend Proxmox VE for virtualizing. You can also just run HAOS bare-metal.
If you want to use windows then VirtualBox has USB support so that might be a better choice over Hyper-V.
It's possible it still won't work but everything I read says that WiFi bridging is a bad idea and usually does not work,
You can. Virtualization has a few benefits though. I can only give you suggestions. Choice is yours.
ok thx
will consider it later when i have no use for this laptop
thanks for helping me!
Hello im new here. My setup been working great until recently i'd say 1-2 months i can't connect to HomeAssistant from internet anymore.
Started a new install and still get the same error. From outside of my network i can reach homeassistant login page but land on the login page with: Error: Something went wrong.
I get nothing in the logs, but when i inspect the page i get 2 errors:
- Failed to load resource: the server responded with a status of 500 ()
- Error starting auth flow SyntaxError: Unexpected token '<', "<html>
<h"... is not valid JSON
Here’s my setup (both of them are on the same machine):
Reverse proxy (swag): Runnning in Docker (ubuntu)
Home Assistant (HAOS): Runing in a VM (virtual box)
I logged the issue here (for more details): https://community.home-assistant.io/t/cant-connect-to-home-assistant-from-internet-anymore/722804
If anyone has encountered the same issue, and could guide me i'd be super happy !
What's in the proxy log?
What's in HA's log?
Oh... and you forgot to enable websocket support in your proxy
Fix that and things should work
I'm not sure if this is the right channel to ask. But does it matter on what version it is? I'm slightly confused on how installation option works. I currently am running HA on Ubuntu Server and have no problem so far. I then notice that I don't see Add-ONs option in the menu. It showed that it would not show up in Ubuntu only Pure Debian is that true?
Are you using docker to run HA? Or perhaps Core install?
Neither of those have addons available to them. The underlying OS wouldn't make much a difference in this case.
I am running VM using Ubuntu Server to have HA on top of it. I'm running it from TrueNAS Core for the time being. I'm gonna get new hardware to run proxmox and go from there
Ah, ok, in that case, as long as you are running a "recent" version of HA (2024.x), you should be fine. There isn't really a reason to run anything older than 2024.4.x imho. If you're not seeing the addons option, that's a different question. I don't have an answer for that. 😦
I am running VM using Ubuntu Server to have HA on top of it.
This doesn't say explicitly that you're running HAOS in that VM. It kinda sounds like you're running Ubuntu Server in the VM, and then running HA via some other method
I am currently trying to restore a backup of my 2024.3 installation. It has been 3 hours (backup file is 135meg and installing to a RPi4). Should it be taking this long? Should I power cycle my Raspberry Pi, or should I just let it continue?
I don't have a monitor on my Pi, so I am trying to connect to it via my external URL (even tried the internal IP) and it is just sitting at the "Unable to connect to Home Assistant" screen
Let me start again. I am using TrueNAS Core to host Ubuntu Server OS and run HA in therr and I have no problem. But Indo not see the option "add-on" which is why I hope HACS would resolve that issue
so....you're running HA as a container or in a venv?
and HACS isn't an addon and has nothign to do with addons
rather than hosting Ubuntu Server OS in a VM, you should just host HAOS in that VM
then you get your addons
Matter of fact. Gotta be container within ubuntu server
then no addons
The Proxy.conf that come with Swag support websocket out of the box and is included in my homeassistant.sudomain.conf
proxy_set_header Connection $connection_upgrade;
proxy_set_header Upgrade $http_upgrade;
(EDITED - more lines in that file)
Swag logs:
Server ready
Ha logs:
Nothing
Still get the same error :/
What's in the proxy log?
What's in HA's log?
Proxy Logs: https://pastebin.com/xufyeWgG
This is the logs i see from the UI
Supervisor Logs: https://pastebin.com/gjaW1GQg
Host logs: https://pastebin.com/nPWUCTEH
DNS logs: https://pastebin.com/RZCLzrVw
Home Assistant Core: There are no new issues! (No logs)
What's the better methodology for installing? Standalone or Docker? I'm looking to install on a optiplex and wondering which way I should do it
I think virtualizing HAOS is probably the most flexible and feature full way to go about it: #hardware-archived message
You have all the features of HAOS but can still run other things which make no sense to run in HAOS or are simply not supported.
hi, really basic question. is there another way to create(etch) the sD card: my work computer does not allow me to etch an sD card
There's lots of tools and ways. Why not?
any one of them does not require me to install anything on my computer.
trying to create a raspberry pi 3 sd card with Homa assistant on it.
There's Rufus portable, which doesn't install anything. Just runs from your download folder.
Thanks I’ll try that

Hi all, long time HA user, first time Discord support request. I am at 2024.2.3 and want to upgrade to the latest 2024.4.4, but it will not upgrade. Previously (https://community.home-assistant.io/t/unable-to-update-core-2023-10-3-to-2023-10-5/632421/11?u=ernie_a_oporto) I was stuck at 2024.1.3 and then after some trying it upgraded to 2024.2.3 and I left it alone. I am at OS 12.2, I do not have HACS and nothing else is pending upgrade. I do have backups turned on, and I can see they complete successfully each time, both locally and on Google Drive, as part of the upgrade.
Where can I see logs for what might be failing? Any tips would be really great.
Memory 0.7 GB / 1 GB
Storage 36% used - 33.9 GB free
Raspberry Pi 3
rpi3-64
The supervisor logs would be my first visit.
will try another upgrade and check there. Thank you.
How can I enable I2C I don’t know root login I don’t think I ever set it to access the terminal
anybody here deploying HA to k8s? Specifically, k3s?
Do the supervisor logs get overwritten on boot?
Just flashed HAOS to my rpi4b 8gb, but seems to be stuck on "A start job is running for HAOS swap" (has been for around 30 minutes)
How can I fix this?
Flashed with rpi imager, don't seem to recall this happening last time I did this
How long should it take?
nvm, its fixed now
Yes. HA logs in general all get overwritten at boot. But, there should always be a .1 file from the last boot.
You can also use ha host logs -b -BOOTID --identifier homeassistant to get older ones.
See here: #general-archived message
And ha host logs --help for more.
So, I was having an issue with my Supervisor causing errors with the latest update.
I reverted back to a one week old backup. Before doing so, I had taken a backup of my own.
I want to resotre my automations and scenes that are now lost.
You can unzip the backup and extract automations.yaml and scenes.yaml
Replace the existing files with those and reload automations and scenes
Oh, neat!
Hey! Hope you're all good? 😄
With the virtualization image issue, is there a way to "swap it out" without a full reinstall?
I've got a weird set up:
- I bought a mini PC with a lot of RAM just for Home Assistant thinking I'd use it up with addons
- I did not use it up with addons at all
- The mini PC had space for a second 2.5" drive which I installed Proxmox on
- I now boot HA OS from the original drive from within Proxmox (a weird P2V esque thing)
What that means is that reinstalling with the OVA is probably not something I can do without losing the advantage of a second SSD just for HA.
So is there any way to change to the OVA without a full reinstall?
Can someone help me with getting a local conenction for HASS setup
when I try to connect I get a incorrect certificate error on the companion app
-I use duckDNS to remotely connect to HASS
but when I use the app with a local IP for a dashboard, I get a error that it cannot connect to hass.
That's expected, because the cert isn't for the local IP
The only solutions are:
- Only ever use the remote URL (local access will go via your router, not the Internet)
- Use a reverse proxy for SSL
I am using the local IP. but get a certificate invalid error.
Right
Read what I wrote
That's expected, because the cert isn't for the local IP
Use one of the two solutions
If you have internal DNS (AdGuard Home, pi-hole etc), you could set the duckDNS domain to direct to the local IP on your internal network only too
but solution 1 is probably just as good and easier
I have adguard as my DNS
Hey! Hope you're all good? 😄
on my PC I can use the local IP just fine, as I can just click past the error in the browser
Then set it to map yourhost.example.org to the LAN IP
how do I do this?
And the app doesn't allow you to click through because that's terrible for security
how do I do this?
You'll have to use port 8123 locally still
So if you forwarded 443 to 8123 for remote access your local URL will be https://yourhost.example.org:8123/ rather than https://yourhost.example.org
hi . ive got a problem . my home assistant system was running fine. i wanted to delete a device in the core.device_registry file. after a reboot i cant open up the home assistant login page, but the supervisor page is loading fine..
Restore the backup you took before you did that?
There's a reason that what you did isn't recommended
Getting a bit confused, where do I do this?
i needed to edit the file becaus my mobile app didn't worked... so entities listed
Don't worry about that bit yet
Just sort out #installation-archived message

Hello
Hello
I followed the guide to install HA on openwrt router
And I know it s missing some integrations, But I want yo know how can I add them back
Thank you
Failed to Connect
The mobile_app integration is not loaded. Please add it to your configuration, then restart Home Assistant and try again.
Error Code:
Shared.HomeAssistantAPI.APlError 6
That guide is 5 years old, and horribly outdated
Wow
That other guide is worse
You've got a 2+ year out of date, deliberately broken, install
You'd be better off just setting fire to it
I think we should kill that guide
I only have that openwrt router that I can use for HA and nothing else
But if HA runs without errors.. it s just missing integrations
You can run HA on pretty much any computer, you don't have a spare computer or even a windows or mac?
Can be manually added back?
No
Nope
The only way to "add" them is to not use that method
So you only have a single computer in your house?
Not a single computer
Only routers and smart devices
I recommend getting a HA green then
Cheap and will get you the bare minimum and a starting point
I wanted to get raspberry pi with docker, but idk if it s stable enough
Pi + HAOS doesn't, but then you may as well buy a Green
This repo provides tools to install the latest version of Home Assistant. (2024.2.x) on a system with OpenWrt 23.05+ installed.
Isn t that recent enough? Or still a bad ideea?
That's newer, but still not current
It's not just a bad idea, it's a terrible idea
It provides the reduced version of HA with only minimal list of components included
That should also tell you all you need to know
But I hoped there was an easy way to just download them back as needed
The docs there tell you how to do that
But... HA's own docs will always be wrong for you, since you'll be running an outdated broken HA install
You can do that, but don't expect any help
Well, it s my first time interacting with HA. I want just to test some basic integrations and then buy dedicated hardware
Can you help me with some links please? Thanks
This is a great way of getting the wrong idea about HA
And no, I'm not going to help you with that
Frankly if you can't read the docs YOU LINKED TO and follow them then ... why should I help you shoot yourself in the foot
I've said all I'm going to on the topic though... good luck
Okay, got it. Thanks
I am having a problem with my Home Assistant setup.
I think I am running HAOS.
The issue is my add-ons have stopped working since the last superviser update (I think).
Everything else seems to be working.
Core 2024.4.4, Frontend 20240404.2
that's it?
Operating system 12.2, Supervisor 2024.04.4
Ok, you're running HAOS
I thougth so. Until today I did not even consider what I was running. 😄
look in your supervisor logs
What does stopped working mean? Can you see the logs of the addons? What happens if you visit their overview?
I've got to .056 INFO (MainThread) [supervisor.host.manager] Host information reload completed in my HAOS installation on my rpi4b, but it has been stuck on that for 2 hours. I can obviously view it from homeassistant.local:8123, but it just isn't moving. It has sufficient power, a 32gb microSD card, and is connected to Ethernet. Any ideas what I might have done wrong here?
I do not see anything like an error in there.
Well tha'ts what turns on and off addons
That does make sense since the problem started since the update.
I was going to try with a 64gb microSD card, would this work? I seem to recall reading that RPis only accept 32gb or lower SD cards.
Sure, why not: https://www.raspberrypi.com/documentation/computers/getting-started.html#recommended-sd-cards
Where did you read that?
I think it may have been about raspberry pi's own OS specifically come to think of it
The supervisor is running mind you. At least I see it on in devices and services.
do you think the issue could be a faulty card?
There's not enough information to guess.
unfortunately I can't connect a monitor to my pi because of its location to see if there are any other messages directly in the console.
I tried with the same SD card yesterday, and got the same issue
I'll try with the 64gb one, see if that works
I can pastebin the etire log but it is entirely in green and white along with one yellow.
got to migrate the contents of my old phone to my external drive now though :/
2024-05-01 19:48:11.445 WARNING (SyncWorker_1) [supervisor.host.sound] Can't update PulseAudio data: Failed to connect to pulseaudio server
2024-05-01 19:48:11.451 WARNING (MainThread) [supervisor.host.network] Requested to update interface eth0 which does not exist or is disabled.
Seems irrelevant.
WAIT IT JUST MOVED
ITS BEEN 3 HOURS
edit: 2 hours, not 3
.599 INFO (SyncWorker_3) [supervisor.docker.manager] Stopping homeassistant application
that seems bad?
or is it supposed to do that?
Not sure to be honest.
ig we'll see
"This may take up to 20 minutes" haha
would you recommend moving to the 64g sd card anyway?
A good old ha supervisor repair call and a reboot might fix something.
I can try that. Would that delete anything?
If you don't have any way to check logs there's not much I can recommend. Maybe you can give it a few more minutes and open the URL in a new tab and see if something happens?
All my addons just turned on.
alright
I think your threat of ha supervisor repair scared it.
i just refreshed the page and it now refuses to connect
it knows
Yes and no. It shouldn't delete anything important to you like user settings, addons or stuff like that.
I have no explanation why something not working most of the day stated working.
new hass update: every instance now has a conscience linked to the discord
That's the magic of (H)ead (A)che OS 🙂
it wont work if you ask, it sees through your plan 👀
One thing I did try to do a full OS reboot.
Maybe that fixed it but the addons inisted on not working for a while.
The addons were not starting. Giving weird errors.
I narrate to help. In case someone else experiences the same.
What errors?
Like this one: #general-archived message
I was restarting home assistant rather than the os.
On the bright side of things I discovered that I can now dump my Unifi controller into HA.
🎉
Hmm. I have tried unistalling core_check_config to install it back again. It was being wonky.
I cannot seem to find it in the add-on store.
So after a possible router reboot (I was sick in bed for 2 days) or my toddler doing his thing, console is giving me this: “[WARN] Home Assistant CLI is not running! Jump into emergency console…” (entering "login" after the line produced the same error message), neither a web UI.
I noticed an error message on the server machine from my wifi extender, which is weird, since I thought the extender had no connection with my (bridged) setup. I thought maybe VM is trying to connect to the extender for some reason, unplugging it didn't fix the issue. I'm running HA in VMWare. I have HA backups but before doing that, maybe there's another place to look at or at least to know what might have caused that or how to prevent in the future.
After a router settings backup I got another error (on my main, non-VM PC) by Windows network troubleshooter: "Your computer is trying to use a DNS server that is incorrect or doesn't exist", which I fixed by plugging the Ethernet cable to the different PC port, not sure if that's related, but might be a hint. This happened a few times recently, after starting with VMs.
Hopefully this fits into Installation channel
@shy coral sounds like your router lost power temporarily which caused the hosts to lose their network configuration and then the network interfaces were left in a state that wasn't able to communicate with the DHCP server
so you should probably reboot your router gracefully and then all the devices that are connected to it
hello
Wrong channel @chilly oyster
The redirect wasn't for you

looks like my dreame vaccuum integration from HACS is the issue. Thanks
@errant edge I converted your message into a file since it's above 15 lines :+1:
for clarity: Hi, I am trying to move my home assistant instance behind a nginx proxy, I have created a docker network and trying to update my docker compose file from hassio to use this network, but when trying to restart it with docker-compose up -d it keeps saying homeassistant is up-to-date and when running docker network inspect {networkname} it shows that it is not connected
Moving HA off of host isn't supported, and many integrations will break
Also, hassio is the old name for Home Assistant OS, and you'rer not using that
Also... you shouldn't be doing SSL in HA any more 😉
damn a lot of things there, how should I do reverse proxying?
you also got a blog or somewhere I can read about what I should do for ssl instead?
I just want to host something else internet facing on my network, and I can't really find any good tutorials. Can't get the nginx proxy manager to point to the instance of home assistant
@errant edge Do you want to run the proxy in a container too?
Its a simple setup for that
Yea the npm is running in a docker container and so is the home assistant instance
take a look at the "nginx proxy manager" package on github.
Just run it and add home assistant as a host with it local network ip.
Nginx proxy manager will get a letsencrypt certificate and redirect the traffic to home assitant
Hi, I'm attempting a fresh HA installation on an Intel PC. I followed the steps online: Booted Ubuntu from USB stick (try out mode), then downloaded the HA image and restored it to the computer's primary drive. When rebooting the computer (USB stick removed of course) I see kernel messages up to the point in the following screen shot, and it goes no further.
(I guess I can't post an image here. I can't reall c/p the output)
Please use imgur or other image sharing web sites, and share the link here.
Image posting is blocked in most channels to discourage people from sharing text as images. Sharing text as images assumes that everybody sees the world as you do, which isn't the case. Some people are colour blind, or have visual impairment that means they can't make sense of an image of text.
damn a lot of things there, how should I
Looks fine on the first glimpse
The USB events are still logging when I detach and reattach devices, so I doubt the last lines are an indication of the issue.
So since it looks like the system partition can't be found, I checked for the partuuid in Ubuntu and it's there. I also tried two different drives (nvme and conventional). I tried images version 12.2 and also the latest (12.3.rc2) in hope maybe the later kernel has a driver that was missing. Symptoms stay the same, unfortunately
I have had my HA stop responding (also no automations or data saved) on my PI (CM4) a few times now. It still responds to ping, and the leds seems to indicate activity, but nothing is working. I dont really understand what is wrong - perhaps someone here knows something that might help me? I have looked in the logs but nothing is really in there that indicates a problem.
I just end up doing a powercycle - and then everything works again
Just a wall plug, but i would think it deliveres plenty of power for just a PI with an SSD
Its the powersupply that came with my yellow
It does have a PoE option, but i dont use that to avoid power issues
Also, the fact that it responds to ping, and have some level of activity, makes me think that something is still running. Does HA have some sort of wattchdog that could cycle it automatically?
HAOS ... no it doesn't
Auch, that seems like a small feature that could "solve" a lot of minor issues.
Can you connect a monitor to it? Maybe it displays something next time it happens.
I'd check the host logs from the last boot.
What are the host logs?
I just checked the logs, i only checked the home-assistant.log
Sorry, thats a bit over my current level
I do have web terminal installed
Do i have to admit that i am a newbie when it comes to using it
Run ha host logs boots.
ok, that gives me 2 results, that im not allowed to copy/paste for some reason 🙂
-1 and 0 ... which makes me think that i maybe should not have updated HA right after the issue ...
ha host logs -b IDHERE to see the logs from that boot. It's a bit restrictive. You can't sort by newest for example. Maybe it still helps. Of interest are the latest lines.
hmm it only contains a 2 hour window of logs
But its from a time where it was nonresponsive ...
Not being able to copy/paste is annoying 🙂
text from the web terminal
See here for a fix/workaround: #installation-archived message
Oh, yoou have a guide for everything 🙂
🙂
is the logs in some default timezone?
