heya, quick question: after updating the rpi4 running HA supervised from bullseye to bookworm , i now get the following in repairs:
"Unsupported system - Operating System
System is unsupported because the operating system in use is not tested or maintained for use with Supervisor. Use the link to which operating systems are supported and how to fix this."
everything seems to be working though. any ideas? much appreciated
you should probably check out the forums https://community.home-assistant.io/t/installing-home-assistant-supervised-using-debian-12/200253/1188
you won't get much help here as most here have migrated away from supervised
ah okay thank you. can you fill me in why exactly people have moved away from supervised?
it's largely not needed
I just replaced my router with Eero mesh set up . I can't reach my home assistant box running on a thin client anymore. The machine is connected and I se the IPv4 address. I did an ha network info, but I don't really know what to do with this information or how to move forward. Anyone have any suggestions or next steps?
I don't see the machine listed in my Eero app listed anywhere as being connected, but I unplugged the ethernet cable and connected my laptop and it had a connection.
I hate to ask the simpliest question, but i the IP range the same?
Simple questions are good, my networking skills are not great. Which two IP addresses?
Here is what I am seeing in HA:
https://i.imgur.com/nJI6N7d.jpg
So looks like the gateway is 192.168.0.1 which would no longer be correct. To your point, I guess that would mean they are not in the same range, as my new gateway is 192.168.4.1. I'll start by figuring out how to change that
Whats your current IP?
Is your HA setup with a static IP?
If its not, have you tried rebooting your HA box, if its DHCP then it just needs to grab a new IP
I don't remember having set it to a static IP. I feel like that had still been on my to do list. I have tried rebooting a few times, but nothing has changed.
thanks for the help, much appreicated
Well you could just change your IP range on your new router
I've been using 192.168.0 for 20 years because I'm so used to typing it lol
Makes sense vs trying to change HA to work. Would I make the change here?
https://pasteboard.co/NNSV5FsKA9n2.png
I'm not sure that is how I would change the gateway though...
when you click automatic what values does it fill in?
I'm not controlling the load at the switch to any of the lights in my house so all of my lights have been on since yesterday ๐ . Wife has about had it
The other option is you could just connect your old router to your HA box and set static IP i the range of your new router and go that route
and just so you know, you did set a static IP, its on that screen shot you sent ๐
I'm also sure someone who knows a bunch more then me(I'm self taught hack who learns by breaking stuff) could tell you how to how to change the IP settings in the terminal screen too
mcli connection show to list your connections
nmcli con show "Your Connection Name" to list the current properties of that connection
nmcli con edit "Your Connection Name" to enter edit mode for that connection
nmcli> print ipv4 will show you the ipv4 properties of that connection
To add your static IP address (select โyesโ for manual method);
nmcli> set ipv4.addresses 192.168.1.10/24
Do you also want to set 'ipv4.method' to 'manual'? [yes]:
honestly, I have always used 192.168.0, so I was fine with changing it. Everything has rebooted and it looks like HA is loading for me
I would have wasted a bunch more time before putting that all together. Thank you very much for your time
Now I think I just need to repair a million things since I changed my SSID
Great to hear!
Seriously, really appreciate it. Thanks again.
Hey Guys, Im new to this discord server and i don't know if this is the right channel for my question (please let me know). Today we had some power maintenance done in our town and they shut off all power for a couple hours, I didnt have time to shutdown my servers properly so they all got a force shutdown ๐ฆ
The problem now is that my HASS vm starts up but after like 20mins i get the warning "Error returned from Supervisor: System is not ready with state: setup", i've been searching in the community and on google but no solution has gotten me back online.
I just ran a supervisor repair using the CLI and I receive the following error "POST "http://supervisor/supervisor/repair": Context deadline exceeded (Client.Timeout exceeded while awaiting headers)"
When I run a banner command the output looks alright but i'm unable to load the webinterface . Any help would be really appericiated because atm im sitting in a cold home because i cant turn my heating on lol ๐ฆ
I have a Hass VM running on a Synology NAS as a Virtual Machine
I can't help with this, but this reafirms my choice to have a physical thermostat that can be programmed by HA ๐
Just got home after more than an hour, Web interface is up and running but all devices are disconnected... no idea still on how to next
I'd take a look at your logs and see what errors are showing up
hi all good afternoon/evening ๐ ..... after changing from one server to a new one I am trying to recover a backup from a previous home assistant installation. Should the backup and the new installation perfectly match in versions?
or I can install like the newest. Load the backup...and it'll work?
anyone whom is online have any experiance with Huawei Solar
i couldnt get HAOS to work so i installed Supervised on Debian 12 and it works perfect!
For now
okay seems i was rejoicing too soon... after bookworm updating the RPI everything seemed to work fine BUT then i discovered i have no internet on the host machine whatsoever.
now comes the weird part: it seems supervised hassio just blocks internet access as soon as the docker container is initiated and HomeAssistant started. i can reproduce this issue by rebooting the host machine and SSHing into it immediatly it becomes available. for the time it takes the rpi to load up the docker container w hassio/supervisor i have perfect internet (ping) and then all goes to sh*t.
so it is home assistant supervisor that kills my internet during boot... any suggestions would be very appreciated as this also blocks incoming connections for my wireguard interface. tyvm
Hello, I just installed HA in supervisor mode on Debian running on Intel NUC. I got to the onbarding page and then chose to restore the full backup I have just taken from my other instance running on the same Debian with same HA but running on VM. The tar file of my backup is 60MB, and the restore porcess started but it has been running for an hour and it's still not finished. The observer on port 4357 is responding. I also checked the journalctl on the nuc but nothing is happening there. I also checked the 3 log files in the hassio/homeassistant folder but they are empty
In general, restores currently can take hours and there isn't a good indication of progress before its done
Ok thanks I will le tit go then
Not necessarily trying to convince you to go another route if you've got your mind made up, but why did you elect the supervised route instead of HA OS for a new build if you'll be dedicating the whole machine to HA?
Check your /etc/network/interfaces file.
thanks! but i think i fixed it.
re-ran the HA supervised installer, enabled/reinstalled a bunch of services, now internet seems to be back
Better than not working, i want to use HAOS but i get no network on it
well ... no such luck. after a reboot of the host machine the problem is back again.
Yeah I need special integration for my hybrid inverter and I was told to go this way.
Who told you that? What special integration?
LuxPower inverter and the integration is https://github.com/guybw/LuxPython_DEV, a prive github page. I just followed what the developper told me to do...
Then there is this: https://github.com/DanteWinters/lux-power-distribution-card/
Why would it be so bad to run in supervisor mode? I'm quite new the HA, so my question may sound simple but I'm just inexperienced...
Ok now it's been like 5 hours it says it restores a 60MB backup file. There must be a problem but I cannot find any logs...
Supervised is a trap for the unwary
You will have problems where it just suddenly stops working
I received a new HA Yellow this week but I get lots of errors on the setup screen. It says it could take up to 20 minutes but runs for hours. I clicked the blue button and this is a part of the log:

That looks like the Yellow came with an old, very old, version of HAOS on it. Maybe try re-flashing it?
Didn't CodeNotary cancel their services?
Pretty sure they did
Hi... my first post here, I apologize if wrong channel. I have a brand new installation on RPI 4, which I cannot get to work. There are components there that are crashing for not obvious reasons, supervisor, core, etc.
My request is not so much to help me, but please refer me to the development information that explains the HA's internal structure, i.e. which processes they run, where they dump which logs, such things.
The dev docs probably won't help you, but ...https://developers.home-assistant.io/

You'd be better off sharing the logs
Hi, are there someone who wants to share their ufw/iptables rules for ha container, nginx?
It's pretty a nightmare to configure docker on ufw or iptables/nftables
Umโฆ. Just say f it and macvlan it so the firewall wonโt affect it
Still keep the firewall for the host and put ha and a couple other special containers in macvlans
Or god forbidโฆ. Turn off the firewall if you really want to use host networking if you think itโs a nightmare now
Why even run a firewall on a host inside your trusted network?
When trying to start HAOS, i have a Supervised host working but i really want to use HAOS
resolution info
Ok so I took the supervised route because I was told so by the guy who did the hybrid inverter integration I needed. I asked him again and he told me that once I made it work, it will work just fine with haos. So I have few questions:
1- When I tried haos the first time, I was stuck in some haos shell instead of a Linux shell. Is there a way to get back a real linux shell?
2- I need to be able to install tailscale, this is the path I needed to take so my HA will be availale outside my chalet network since I'm behind CGNAT over there.
3- I used to create my own TLS certs to get https communication to my HA and save them in /usr/share/hassio/ssl, can I still do that with haos?
I would like to take a more standard approach like suggested but I need some degrees of freedom on the haos machine.
๐
- Yes,
loginfrom theha >prompt - https://github.com/hassio-addons/addon-tailscale
- Yes,
/sslis the standard directory within the core container and you can configure thehttpintegration to use that cert if you'd prefer not to use a proxy
To your last point... it depends what you're all requiring with your "degrees of freedom". You don't have that really on HA OS or Supervised, you do have to do things the HA way as those systems are managed by the supervisor, you can't just do your own thing.
Hi there! I recently switched to a clean install of HA OS but I restarted with a bad config file and crashed the system. How am I supposed to debug it when it crashes? I don't have any access to SSH or FTP to correct the files? Right now, it serves a 404 to all pages ๐ข
Keyboard & monitor
lol I'm so used to ssh I didn't even think of that thanks! xD
What would be the id/password?
None other than root as user
no
Canโt trust your trusted network with all of those IoT devices
put these iot devices in a vlan, make it accesible from your lan but block everything else
let HA talk to these devices, never let anything else talk to them
Because I have some docker containers that I want to expose on the internet like vscode for example. But I want to monitor and protect it with a firewall... HA is exposed on the internet too.
hA must be on the internet since I have Google home that controls my HA devices.
Was having issues for about a week where Home Assistant was filling the disk. Would reboot and then fill from 18% to 100% within 10/15 minutes. Wasn't able to get to the bottom of the issue, so I restored a backup. This was a week ago. My Home Assistant is still down.
I run HAOS in Proxmox and have never had issues like this before. Almost immediately after it finishes restoring (I've tried multiple snapshots from across a 4 week period), I just get systemd-coredumps or constant crashing. I've rebuilt the VM numerous times.
Kind alost for what to try at this point but don't fancy throwing in the towel after the money i've spent on hardware this year
I have problems with the installation, who can help me? I created the address on dukcdns, I entered it in home assistant, I completed the configuration.yaml file as per the instructions, I forwarded the ports on the router, I completed the ngnix instructions as per the documentation but now I can't access it from anywhere part, or at least, I'm confused and I no longer know if I should use http or https
If you didn't add ssl_ lines to configuration.yaml then the local connections will still be http://
I added them
but now I can't access it anymore
without :8123?
don't work
You're using Home Assistant OS, with add-ons?
yes
takes too long to reach the address, that's what chrome tells me
I currently have port 443 and 80 forwarded in my router
Try it
don't work
now i'm try to reinstall the so, Can you tell me a complete tutorial to follow?

Then click the link and then click the one for the Raspberry Pi

only to set up the connection outside the local network
You didn't buy the Pi already with HA installed though, so you must have done this installation already
can someone help me? I'm trying to install home assistant on my RPi 3b+ und I always get a weird error (wish I could a picture here, but I can't)

okay
tried to install it with instructions on raspbian/a linux system first but that one didnt work too (due to smth different)
Guess you missed the part of the bot message where it says that image posting is blocked to discourage you from sharing text as images ๐
404 Error for docker usually is a result of one of these things:
-
The image tag you are trying to use does not exist (if this is the case you will see the word 'manifest' in the error)
-
There is not enough space left on the device to download the new container.
-
There was a networking issue preventing the image from being downloaded.
well honestly yeah lol
but what can i do then here?
I cant even find smth similar by googling different things
What size of SD card did you use?
32gb

Best version to install? using windows as base --- Or I guess which of the 4 versions is the best?
Well, on Windows you only have two choices
The "best" solution for that would be a VM running HAOS
(VMs on Windows have a history of problems, caused by Windows)
I've got Ubuntu installed on WSL on it, but then it would be HA core - which is maybe less good than just the full HAOS version?
Well, if you're comfortable building software from source, go Core
Smart people use HAOS or Container (Docker)
I could probably do container with docker through WSL as well eh? -- you saying Core requires me to build things in HA that I wouldn't normally have to do or?
Core requires you to build Python from source at least once a year, often more
In this day and age Docker makes live so easy, there's no good reason to not use it
And no, Docker in WSL won't work, as you don't get host networking
That's why the docs are clear that it's not a supported option
Ahh I just did that to get python 3.11 I believe
And you'll have to do it for 3.12.x soon
And maybe another 3.12.x release before 3.13
For when I want to upgrade to the newest HA version eh?
Well, that's easier
That's just pip install --upgrade
(and well explained in the docs)
But with Docker you just pull and recreate the container
Ahh but I cant use docker with WSL windows you say
No, so your only choices are a VM, or Core
A VM will be the least bad option
At least until you rebuild that host to use Linux ๐
I could probably run it on another machine here - but between VM or Core is there any other issues with core besides having to keep rebuilding python?
@sand solar When using Discord's Reply feature it defaults to pinging the person you reply to, which can get frustrating for the target. Use Shift + click on the Reply option, or click @ ON to @ OFF to stop this - on the right side of the compose bar.
You have to change this every time (thank the Discord devs for that).
strike 2
The VM also runs Core, just in Docker, so HA is the same regardless
The VM gives you add-ons, if you want them, but you don't need add-ons
my bad I didn't realize I had to keep turning off the ping
any ideas?
ahh ok when I was looking at it here for Hyper-V it looked like it was the full OS https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/907222715230982146/1168286143926775919/image.png
Do yourself a favor and don't use Hyper-V
At least if you are planning to use USB dongles
No idea what I'm planning to use, it was causing me some suffering trying to decide how to give it access to the outside network though --- I did install HA through both ways but I broke the Ubuntu version while trying to upgrade python to 3.11 the first time... Then I went back today and redid the ubuntu setup
Is there anything i need to manually reconfigure after installing HAOS from a backup? or is it a real 1:1 copy?
I just downloaded and installed the Hyper-V image and am receiving an error:
homeassistant.components.hassio.handler.HassioAPIError: Update of Supervisor failed: Can't install ghcr.io/home-assistant/amd64-hassio-supervisor:2023.10.1: 404 Client Error for http+docker://localhost/v1.43/images/ghcr.io/home-assistant/amd64-hassio-supervisor:2023.10.1/json: Not Found ("No such image: ghcr.io/home-assistant/amd64-hassio-supervisor:2023.10.1")
I've rebooted, expanded disk, and verified connectivity. Any ideas on how to resolve this? I tried to SSH as well but I can't add the addon for it
i get the same error trying to install home assistant on my raspberry pi xd
I also went into the OS and issued a docker pull ghcr.io/home-assistant/amd64-hassio-supervisor:2023.10.1 and it gave a failed to register layer: error creating overlay mount to /mnt/data/docker/overlay2/9fa9f130e4f18fd24840c80edfa41111b98bdef5e08c57c647a9102e2d3a10987/merged: too many levels of symbolic links
I just reinstalled the image but expanded the disk first and it worked the second time.
Hi, I'm looking for advice how I can track what causing hanging in home Assistant on Raspberry Pi 3. Is started somewhere at begin of current year. I thought that is caused by MariaDB that was below requirements (Synology). Recently Synology updated version of MariaDB so should be fine. Unfortunate issue is persistent. Every 3-5 days at around 1-2 am Home Assistant stops being responsive. I have to physically restart Raspberry. I don't see anything in logs that would give me some insight. Ideas, thoughts about what debug I can use to find what is a cause? I use Home Assistant OS.
When entering certain elements of my dashboards stuff like history is not working (anymore). Checking the browser log I see at lot of 404 requests. For example: /unknown/src/elements/element.point.ts
Any ideas where that /unknown is coming from?
i'm running the latest HA core version.
I'd recommend you share the errors in full
https://ha.home.mydomain.tld/unknown/src/scales/scale.time.js results in 404 Not Found.
Please use imgur or other image sharing web sites, and share the link here.

Iโve rebuilt my promox vm multiple times over the last week and tried restoring multiple backups. They all restore fine and then immediately start having issues. Constant systemd-journal dumped core
At a loss for what to try and where to turn to for help
hi, i have ha running as a vm on esxi 8 on a n100 mini pc, is it normal for a new instance of HAOS with a bare config to start the gui to have 6-7% usage? i am asking because the my instance of HAOS is using 40-60% cpu and it seems very high
I'm going to deploy homeassistance OVA file for vmware esxi and I noticed the OVA has a lot of explicitly enabled advanced configuration options. I don't know if some/any of them are even needed here, some of the things are just... default?
Vcenter is telling me:
svga.present = TRUE
usb:0.port = 0
usb:1.speed = 2
ctkEnabled = TRUE
usb:0.deviceType = hid
cpuid.coresPerSocket = 2
usb:1.port = 1
usb:1.parent = -1
usb:0.parent = -1
sata0:0.ctkEnabled = TRUE
usb:0.present = TRUE
usb:1.deviceType = hub
usb:1.present = TRUE
some of the things are default, you dont need most of them (eg. usb is used for passthrough from host)
I figured most wasn't the case I just didn't know if some was explitly defined for a real reason.
like I already changed the default disk controller from LSI Parallel (the horror) to PVSCSI and first boot did not care
controller type will definitely increase cpu usage
hmm..im using lsi logic parallel now....good suggestion let me play around with this thanks
Honestly, you get 10x the iops and WAY less usage by switching to PVSCSI to the point that it should probably be notated on the documentation page
hope it works, doing a new deployment to test as we speak. it wasnt an issue before since i was running it on a xeon server, now that i moved it to a n100 mini pc its very noticable
if anyone cares, switching from parallel to pvscsi brought a new instance of HAOS cpu usage down from 6-7% to 3-4%
i just switched over the pvscsi and vmxnet3 nic....broke the network connection and had to manually set it back up with NetworkManager
The documentation explicitly states to not use vmxnet because it breaks discovery over e1000 for what it's worth
mind sharing a link to the docs? i cant seem to find it on google...
https://www.home-assistant.io/installation/alternative
VMware ESXi/vSphere
Use the โE1001โ or โE1001Eโ virtual network adapter. There are confirmed mDNS/Multicast discovery issues when using VMwareโs โVMXnet3โ virtual network adapter.
I happened to just read that a few minutes ago because i'm trying to deploy today
ahhh i totally skipped the part that lets you select virtaulbox/esxi/etc
thanks, let me change it back i guess
Should I be able to migrate my docker install and config to a new core OVA deployment without bumps?
I did a backup from my existing system, then said to restore on the welcome page for the new machine. It's just sitting and spinning at restore in progress.
Is there a better way for me to see where things are at or stuck?
It's been over an hour at that screen on a ryzen host that's prettymuch idle
If I just try to go to http://homeassistant.local:8123/ I'm getting Login aborted: Your computer is not allowed
If I try to reopen the http://homeassistant.local:8123/onboarding.html?page=restore_backup page in a new tab I see:
Unable to fetch auth providers. http://homeassistant.local:8123/?auth_callback=1
sorry im useless at this, i didnt want to deal with all the export/import stuff so i copied everything over manually
i couldnt even get ha to connect to the network when i deployed it on my synology nas with a aggr connection
I've been running docker forever because I thought it would be easiest and the most flexible but my zwave stuff has been dead for forever and it really seemed like the OS is the way to go now
I figured out my problem, I had to browse to the page using the IP instead of the name. Because I was restoring the config as part of an import wizard to a new machine it tried keeping the old machine name in the user URL in the config file
That might be a good check to exist in the import wizard to prevent this kind of failure for people restoring the config to a new device
I also just noticed when I went to reboot after importing and changing things that Settings > System has a sub text identifier that says "reboot your system" but there is no button to reboot your system under system. You have to go to developer tools
Hey all... trying to get HACS installed on my friends HA and when i click HACS on the left it just shows me a HACS incon with downaloads and stars. Mine looks totally different as i have installed mine a while back and didnt run into this. Did i miss something?
can i disable experimental mode?
uninstall and reinstall and not check the box?

I am preparing to setup HA for the first time, and am thinking of running it in Docker on a seconary machine which I use as a server. Does this limit me to not using addons?
Yes. But you can run whatever containers or software you want
You don't need any addons
Is there a database of the container replacements to addons somwhere so I don't have to spend hours looking for them?
hi there, can anyone help me trying to find i call it the docker container hostconfig.json on a homeassistant os running on rpi 4 ?
in a standard linux setup this file would be located under:
/var/lib/docker/containers/[hash_of_the_container]/hostconfig.json
Why are you trying to find that file?
1st because i am often in that kind of problem that while im developing i dont know at the start where i will end in relation ship like of port forwarding
2nd becuase its the same location where i would like to have access because my remaining space and overlay2 mounts...
If you're port forwarding to access home assistant over the internet then it's 8123 or 443 if you use a reverse proxy
If you're wanting that much control over a system you shouldn't be using HAOS
think thats the point.... shouldt use haos
it was my first try and install and they catched me somewhere it says u can only use addons with this version ...
but after i realized there is hacs... and u dont need those haos addons most times u can do it another way to achieve a better goal...
so thats what i was scared of....
Add-ons are not hacs
They are two different things
Hacs is third party integrations
Add-ons are glorified docker containers
okay then forget this question because... i will need to reinstall the other way...
but is there a way to bkp or extract the database information of my power plug incase of the energy measuring and after the new setup import it so that i dont loose the collected data ??
becuase i never found a easy way for doing this i think maybe there is a hacky way over inspecting the database and extract it manually ..
but else after installing the new linux system with running ha in a docker container in it i'll have to add a new power plug... set energy monitoring ... and only can work with the data collected since the new setup right ??
this would be my only thign to care of the energy data before the new setup... the rest i can build again wont make a change
Open your Home Assistant instance and Back up your Home Assistant installation
okay so easy ??? ^^ didnt thought i can migrate between haos and the docker way install.. but jeah.... .
got me never took the time to read the simplest man pages.... but spend days to develop some hacky things ^^
so one last...
without further reading on this from me, will there be some kind of performance losses if i setup homeassistant the other way withoutz the one click haos setup ?
or is it jsut the one "main" thing i will loose the option to work with the addons from home assistant and instead use all from hacs ?
but to get to your main wuestion why i wann get there i nthe overlayfs is
You can change the port mapping by directly editing the hostconfig.json file at /var/lib/docker/containers/[hash_of_the_container]/hostconfig.json
You can determine the [hash_of_the_container] via the docker inspect <container_name> command and the value of the "Id" field is the hash.
Stop the container (docker stop <container_name>).
Stop docker service (per Tacsiazuma's comment)
Change the file.
Restart your docker engine (to flush/clear config caches).
Start the container (docker start <container_name>).
this was why i stumbled upon... wanted to change a hostconfig.json of a running container where i modified a lot of things and those fixes would get lost by running a new or duplicated container just to add a thing like 1 port forwarding...
i know i could use another container and using this as reversed proxy within the same network
but the 2nd reason would still be there ill send a screenshot
site --> 28gb used -->22.8gb --> available: 4.1gb
and if i check in the home assistant terminal i dont find all the files that used by my docker conatianers
but jeah i will bkp and reinstall ^^
my problems should then be fixed ๐
Hi all, does anyone know if skyconnect supports Zigbee 1.2 as well?
Hi all, does anyone know if skyconnect
hello everyone, just moved my unraid server to a new case and started up VM's and now HA is in rescue mode, any ideas or links anyone has?
Please use a code share site to share code or logs, for example:
- https://dpaste.org/ (select YAML for the language, and consider picking a longer expiry)
- http://pastie.org/ (select YAML for the language)
- https://paste.debian.net/ (you guessed it, select YAML as the language)
Please don't use Pastebin, since it can randomly add spaces to the main view. Please also don't share text as images since it makes it harder for people to help you. Remember that others may have colour blindness, impaired vision, etc.
Without the logs we'd only be guessing randomly
how would i go about getting the log file? there is journalctl -xb in the vnc window but i donmt think i can copy paste anything from there
That, and any messages on the console, are going to be what we need
i tried sending a file but the thread wont let me
the web ui wont let me do it either
You paste it to a code share site
github?
๐
You can't copy from the VNC window but you can add a serial device to the VM and use xterm to be able to do so. Assuming you use proxmox. Idea's the same for others.
Otherwise use imgur or whatever but logs as text are preferred.
this is just the log view from the VM tab of the HA VM
ill work on getting the full log
That does not look like what we're looking for
dang okay ill get the journal command log from the vnc window
Try the things from here: https://developers.home-assistant.io/docs/operating-system/debugging/#checking-the-logs
It's possible that the ha commands don't work in this state, otherwise you can also run ha supervisor logs/ha core logs
hi all... is there someone using HA on Docker and has a solution on how to notify the docker containers updates?
how can I check if there are updates on the docker images?
I am thinking on mixing cron jobs with ha command_line... but... how...
I use this in monitor mode (can also update): https://github.com/containrrr/watchtower
There's also this: https://github.com/crazy-max/diun
That's the system/host/kernel log. See here: <#installation-archived message>
do you run it in a cron job? or in a docker-compose file?
does it output something to a file and then you read it on HA using command_line?
I run it in a docker container via compose. I run it with the default 24H interval. It sends me a mail: https://containrrr.dev/watchtower/notifications/
Why is my storage constantly filling up. Itโs driving me insane. Iโve been trying to figure this out for over a week. Iโm sick of rebuilding my Proxmox VM and restoring various backups only to be met with the same issue.
I donโt know what I should be looking for. Itโll restart on 20% storage use and within a few hours itโll max out 64gb and crash
Iโm not seeing anything glaring except systemd-journal dumps
Where can I turn to for guidance on figuring this out
Type gdu in the search bar here. I've written a lot about how to check for where your space is going in the past
I'll have a look and see if I can figure out how to make use of that within proxmox because presumably I can't use that in HA CLI
whelp I clearly have no idea what I'm doing.
Installed gdu onto proxmox and that's as far as i could figure out
Use the VNC console of the VM, enter login then follow that: <#general-archived message>
If you add a serial device to the VM (requires a cold boot) you can use xterm (little arrow next to Shell) which allows you to copy paste
unknown command "cd" for "ha"
Did you enter login first?
ah
Also check df -h while you're at it
Hi, im trying to do a fresh install on my rpi4 8GB with a SSD. Im following this guide: https://www.home-assistant.io/installation/raspberrypi/
When starting up the pi I get the following error:
[supervisor.store.git] Can't clone https://github.com/esphome/home-assistant-addon repository: Cmd('git') failed due to: exit code(128)
In this thread recommended dns settings are 8.8.8.8, I set it as dns on the router and restarted the router and did the whole installation again, however same result.
Then I tried the following:
https://community.home-assistant.io/t/solution-to-a-hanged-preparing-home-installation-screen-during-new-install-on-a-raspberry-pi-4-dns-fix/273803
With no result either. Anyone how to solve this?
What does ha network info, ha resolution info and ha dns info look like?
Getting like 0 response from vnc so think somethings crashed somewhere
Completely unable to type | in vnc apparently
keeps coming out as >
never mi d it just changed to a |
weird
192.168.0.100 is a strange ip for a gateway. Can you try ha supervisor repair?
command completed succesfully, doing network info gateway is still the same
still running the initial scan and it's already over 30gbs. Which is significantly more than it should be
What does nslookup google.com and ping 1.1.1.1 say?
Show me a picture of it when it's done
Please use imgur or other image sharing web sites, and share the link here.
Image posting is blocked in most channels to discourage people from sharing text as images. Sharing text as images assumes that everybody sees the world as you do, which isn't the case. Some people are colour blind, or have visual impairment that means they can't make sense of an image of text.
I meant in HAOS' shell
ah sorry about that, i tried nslookup google.com and it says unkown command for "ha"
found it: https://imgur.com/a/Ai6aTLp
Enter login first
ah thnx, found it: https://imgur.com/a/Ai6aTLp
Hmm. Everything (other than the issues) you shared looks good "on paper". Maybe there's more in the log. Check ha supervisor logs

Does nslookup ghcr.io resolve properly?
Can you also try docker pull ghcr.io/home-assistant/raspberrypi4-64-homeassistant:2023.10.5?
Github was kinda slow while I was veryfing that I typed this correctly.
docker pull gives a request canceled while waiting for connection erorr, the nslookup ghcr.io gives:
``
Can you share the complete thing?
output fo nslookup and docker pull: https://imgur.com/a/aHiUfYG
I'm a bit puzzled to be honest. You can try disabling dns fallback
thanks for your help, im puzzled as well... Tried some more things but nothing seems to help. Maybe an idea to try to install it using a different network, then trying to get it to work on my own network
Iโm trying to install Supervised but itโs impossible because systemd-resolved has been removed from Linuxโฆ Is there a way to work around this? Iโm trying to avoid running a VM on this MiniPC so I can have it also be a media player.
Check the issues in the github repo for workarounds
Though you will have problems with it becoming unsupported based on what you wrote there
You'll be 100% better off running a VM for HAOS, or just using Docker
What would be the best way to have Ubuntu start the Docker container on boot?
It should do it automatically for containers that were running at shutdown. Or maybe you need restart: unless-stopped, which I have for all my containers
I know the documentation for that install method tells you to add that flag.
Hey! I've flashed Home Assistant on an SD card and tried to install it. I have gone through the logs and realised that the date and time are wrong. Can I change them somehow from a command line?
set your date/time in the general settings
Time and date are pulled from the internet via NTP on boot. What time exactly is wrong? System stuff is in UTC. You set your timezone in Settings - System - General or in your user's settings
I havent installed it yet, installation ends in an error because date time is wrong
I think the issue is that NTP does not work in my network
Is there a way around this?
certificates will have problems while establishing a secure connection when time is wrong yes
you can setup a local ntp server (most routers can do)
else fix your network
ntp is somewhat crucial
what hurdles should i expect when i migrate from a rpi4 home assistant os installation to a fresh home assistant os installation in a proxmox container on an intel nuc and import a recent backup?
my main concern would be the usb zigbee stick that gets a new device path for sure so i would need to reconfigure this in z2m, will the zigbee mesh still be operational after importing the backup and reconfiguring z2m to use the correct device path to the zigbee stick? also will my collected data from the zigbee devices (mostly energy measurements from solar panels and different zigbee plugs to monitor energy usage) still be useable and connected to the same zigbee entities?
what other hurdles could i run into?
A proxmox container can't run HAOS. Mesh does not care about that. The data should stay the same. Your ip might change though but that's fixable
right, ip will change too, but as you said i should be able to fix that
about the proxmox container: oof ๐
what would be the reason for HAOS cannot run in a proxmox container as there are several how tos in the net that seem pretty straight forward?
or does "cannot" translate to "is not supported"? ๐
there is no such thing as "proxmox container"
there is either docker or lxc container on proxmox
but proxmox doesn't even support docker (you can get it to work though)
proxmox is primarily a webui for a hypervisor
hypervisor is something that runs Virtual Machines
virtual machines are very different from containers
so yes, you can get HAOs on proxmox, not with a container though
-_-
Helping a friend installing Home Assistant, we started today with the image from raspberry pi imager. We installed openssh and then we installed HACS. But HACS does not look as on mine, anyway we still installed some cards like the custom entity row, and the Sonos card. When we try to use those card we get the message that they do not exist. Even though I am able to find them in the www folder. If this is not the right plase to post, I hope I can be excused and pointed in the right direction. Anyway I do hope some can help us. BR Freddy
- You are propably using experimental mode in HACS
- You need one not autogenerated dashboard ("take control") for the HACS cards to be included automatically. Otherwise you would have to add the ressources yourself in Settings - Dashboards -
menu - Ressources
Ok, I did take control of the dashboard after installing HACS. How do I fix this then?
Easiest way would be to remove and re-install the cards in my opinion
And refresh the browser cache
Do I need to install HACS again?
ok, but why do the HACS look sรฅ different?
You propably set the checkmark at "Use experimental features"
you just need to enjoy the new look
ah, thank you.
there's a frustrating desire to just blow it up and go back, rather than looking at the new interface
And the update entities
it's not broken, and there's nothing wrong
it's better, enjoy it
or you can just go install Windows 95 and live in the past

I love going forward, as long as I know that I am going forward ๐

Perhaps Ludeeus should display a modal popup on first HACS launch with experimental mode enabled with "DO NOT PANIC. DO NOT ADJUST YOUR TV SET. EVERYTHING IS OKAY. TYPE SOMETHING IN THE SEARCH BAR OR TOGGLE THE FILTER TO CONTINUE."
Hitchhiker's Guide to the Repositories
Grateful for youre fast and good answers.
Cards back on track?
Settings - Devices & Services - Integrations - HACS > - Configure - Enable experimental features
the HACS update sensor will be replaced by update entities
Now you can evangelize it to the masses
"Hello! We are from HACS and would like to talk to you about experimental features!"

Hello everyone,
I'm trying to access Bluetooth hardware throuth the docker container inside WSL. any one can help please and Thank you.
i installed a fresh haos and trying to recover the backup into it from the landing page, it is spinning for 1.5 hours now and nothing seems to happen ... any way i can check any logs for possible errors or progress?
You can connect a keyboard and monitor and run supervisor logs. I believe there's also a circle you can click to get info. What hardware is this? How big is the backup?
Hey, if I get an error when installing home assistant, is there any way to fix it using command line
That's way too vague. What error? What installation method?
I'm installing on an rpi 4 and NTP is not available in my network so I want to set the date and time manually using some command line
I managed to setup a local NTP server but home assistant is not using it so if you can help me with that, that's also good
Hello everyone,
Do you have working internet access on that network?
Yes, but not all ports are open to the internet, port 123 for NTP happens to be one of them
Curious, why do you do that
My network provider does that ๐
Your network provider prevents any devices on your network from accessing network time? How strange
https://github.com/hacs/frontend/pull/682 already done
||You would think that, but it seems we can never agree on anything....||
You aren't your network provider? Pretty much all devices that connect to a network need ntp.
if what you're saying is true, then none of your devices anywhere have the correct or a synced time.
No I'm in a college network
Yeah, my phone syncs using mobile network, my laptop does not sync time while I'm connected to this network
Hod did you verify that it's blocked? If it really is, perhaps talk to the admin(s) there
That's the first thing I'd do. Any sane network admin can set up a firewall rule that allows NTP access
As (almost) every device needs that service I canโt imagine itโs blocked.
There will be all kinds of issues if it was
Anything SSL would be broken
backup is about 1.9GB, running on a core i5 7500T with 4GB Ram and SSD
after about 3 hours i opened another tab and opened https://myip:8123 and was presented with a login, i was able to login and everything seemed to be there but just not sure the recovery actually restored everything or if anything is still missing. even after rebooting the device the recovery tab just kept spinning circles as if it didn't even notice the device rebooted. maybe some kind of timeout happened and the recovery tab lost connection to HA and didn't even notice?
maybe its because the fresh install works with http and after recovering only https is available so the recovery page can never verify the recovery actually finished?
hello, i am trying to move my home assistant [non os] setup from my nas to my new server. i backed it up but i see no option to restore. online guides say there should be an option to on the first start screen but there isn't.
i even went through the setup and sftp'd the backup and it sees it under Backups but no option to restore.
i also tried just copying the config folder over and restarting HA but i don't see my automations
How did you install it on the new server
via casa os
You only get the restore option with Home Assistant OS
If you pick native Docker, which is what CasaOS uses, then you don't get that, or add-ons
oh ok, didn't know that. ty
kinda dumb tbh
CasaOS is a clusterfuck when it comes to HA
so just to clarify, if i do the native docker way, i'll be able to restore?
ah another casaos victim
No, backup/restore is only a thing w/ specific install versions
Home Assistant OS, Home Assistant Supervised
all other options you manually restore by unzipping your config
i don't understand that logic but ok...
it's the nature of the method you're using
which is a docker container
there's nothing to restore in a docker container and a docker container can't adjust it's configuration files while it runs
how can it perform a task that modifies itself while still running?
the other install methods have a manager that does that for you
that runs as a separate container
it would be like you trying to operate on yourself if you were a doctor
The expectation is that if you're using Docker you can handle running a few commands to extract files to wherever you need them
it'd restart itself after restoring like every other container i have
I have a fresh new HA Container installation running on Ubuntu Server 23.10... it works like a charm with firewalls, fail2ban, ecc. on a Raspberry Pi4...
I use a USB SDD for the OS...
Will I be able to run this installation on a Pi5 by simply attaching the USB SSD to the Pi5?
If you know how to do that, you can add the functionality, I'm sure others would enjoy that update.
Either way, Many people here will highly recommend that you ditch casaos and go with HAOS.
as they both have the same functionality in the end
ok
Or embrace Docker... and ditch CasaOS ๐
I dunno, maybe people like the desire to bang their head against the wall
I joined the casaos discord to see what the deal was, it offers nothing special aside from a UI that manages docker containers
pre-made docker containers it seems
so, basically synology but free and probably worse overall
and that has all sorts of issues running HA
You should be able to, should always take backups anyway and be prepared to restore brand new
Noting backups should be off device
yes that is the idea... will see... thanks!
Raspberry Pi is way more than enouogh for HA, don't know why they are pushing new hardware...
Wait so it doesn't run the standard HA container?
๐คทโโ๏ธ i didn'tlook at that, I just looked at what it was
Who is 'they'
I don't know who is behind the project that pushes new hardware like the HA Green and Orange
it does, it's really just a GUI around Docker and host management
but I sincerely don't see the point in that hardware for the use case
What fun
They make hardware sepcifically designed to run HA w/ specific conditions and a nice all in 1 price point
no where are they saying "don't run on a rpi"
The yellow is a Pi4 essentially
The green is a similar type device, with a low price point
I sincerely don't get the point of that hardware when there is a Pi...
People can run HA on any device
I run it on a system with dual xeon CPUs
Because I don't just run HA, I run a lot of other services too
there was a 2 year period where you couldn't buy a pi
but it's probably my fault and my ignorance
and it's still difficult
and the price point on pi's are almost tripple what the green costs
Yellow = comes with zigbee radio, and is essentially a Pi, all with one preinstalled system.
The green also a preinstalled system
All designed to be entry level and easily accessible
green is $100, try to find a pi w/ a case and power adapter and put together for less than $100
Not everyone wants to tinker, a device they can plug in and have it 'work' is great for some
personally, I have no interest in running HA on all 3 of those options.
no ssd, not worth my time
Yeah thats over $100 usd
I see 99.88โฌ it's more or less 100 USD
and it's a kit, you have to put it together
what do you use instead of SSD?
Also the point of HA is run it on whatever hardware you want, Pi, Nabu Casa devices (which again, the yellow is a pi, its not recommending you to avoid Pis), a NAS, or hell a full on racked server
I use a USB SSD on my Pi4 ๐
I used it with HA OS before, and using the same hardware with HA Container now
wouldn't it be nice to just have a computer show up and work w/o any configuring?
Why yes it would! Great, now you understand the green and yellow
Well... let's say Green ๐
You're not the target audience for those devices
However people who are the target audience seem to love them
Anyone I know who's gotten a yellow has loved it lol
ok, it's more clear, I never think at the "easy part" and this is my mistake
Hi all: I just moved my HAOS from SD to SSD on my Raspberry Pi. I restored from my back-up and everything is working fine. However, I cannot open any add-ons. I keep getting "add-on not started", while I can already use (for instance) my Z2M devices from my dashboard.
When I click "start add-on", nothing happens
I already cleared my cookies and restarted HA
You may need to reboot
How do you moved it from SD to SSD?
The entire OS you mean?
Yes, that's what reboot means ๐
Just checking to make sure ๐
ok that is one of the correct procedure... a reboot could help xD
That worked, thanks peeps!
Yeah if you want Joe Blow who doesn't know or care what the hell ssh and docker are to be able to use HA, which I assume is the eventual goal, you need dedicated hardware that Just Works out of the box.
I just want to thanks all the people on this discord server that makes HA more accessible. Thank you guys. HA is amazing an you are part of it.
As tinkerer shows me every time, I'm a bit dumb sometimes and I overlook some basics, confronting with you and with your ideas is always interesting. Thanks guys.
so yeah something like that seems to be the issue as i can see in supervisor logs: "Full Restore someID done" after about 15 minutes
sweet, everything back online ๐
hello I have config home assistant on a VM and the IP is 10.0.2.15:8123 and when I put the IP on Google it doesn't work...
define "on google"
You would put that into your browser's URL bar, ideally with http:// before it
hey, I'm on mac os M2 silicon, can i install the HA on docker ?
i just wanna test it out and play around until i get a pi
No, Docker on Mac doesn't support host networking
But im getting erorrs
docker: Error response from daemon: Mounts denied:
The path /PATH_TO_YOUR_CONFIG is not shared from the host and is not known to Docker.
You can configure shared paths from Docker -> Preferences... -> Resources -> File Sharing.
Ahh so thats why i coudnt connect to localhost
When i had it working before, ok.
Also, PATH_TO_YOUR_CONFIG you're supposed to change ๐
makes sense then
what about on WSL ubuntu, can i run docker one there?
No
Again Docker on Windows, whether WSL or not, doesn't support host
(this is why the Windows docs also don't list it)
okay i am very VERY new to this. can i run this on a chromebooks hardware if it doesnโt have ethernet? or is it impossible to set up?
you can use usb ethernet adapters but that is prone to fail at some point
okay i will get one
Hi someonehelp me, if im update, it updates and turns on HA and then after a few seconds it restarts itself and is back to the old version

perhaps the confusion is coming from the fact that you've chosen the most challenging installation method, and there's usually no reason to use it
the two sane installation methods are HAOS and container

thsi is my first time ever using it im trying to set it up from scratch on a rasberry pi running ubuntu 22.04
it should give you a updating feed if you do
docker logs -f homeassistant
why does it search for something sonos?
then do docker stop homeassistant
empty the contents of /homeassistant/config
and docker start homeassistant
or better just delete whole /homeassistant/config
i did
do a curl 127.0.0.1:8123 on the pi
root@deerpi:/homeassistant# curl 127.0.0.1:8123
root@deerpi:/homeassistant#
nothing
(it made the new config dir btw)
that is weird, and you didn't do anything before setting that container up?
that shouldn't matter
yea so idk. weird
try curl 172.17.0.1:8123
yes maybe
when you have raspbian running,
do
curl -fsSL https://get.docker.com -o install-docker.sh
and then
sh install-docker.sh
followed by
sudo usermod -aG pi docker
then you have docker up and running
then try that command you posted to start the container again
i just reboot it
i removed all the folders, removed all users but root
killed all procersses
start from scratch
yah what else should i run command wise to make sure im at stage 1
im in my box as root ubuntu 22.04
kill all homeasistnant core proccess etc
why ubuntu?
well then you did something that screws with docker network I suspect
i dont think so its all fresh
im starting from scratch
OK now what
docker removed etc
thats not starting from scratch
sudo usermod -aG pi docker

dockerd-rootless-setuptool.sh install

when i ran ur docker commands as root
it never made a user called docker, should i ?
my command is for raspbian, where you have a pi user
ha i dont have that
it adds that piuser to docker
yeah i dont even have a user claled docker
so you don't need to run as root
start from scratch, with raspbian I suggest
idk what that is
damn so i cant use ubuntu 22.04 ? ok
you can, apparently you have something in that ubuntu install which prevents you from reaching what you setup in docker though
so thats up to you to discover
afaik ubuntu comes with ufwyou can try disabling that firewall
i did
i got it working! nice! Now i wanna tyr and hook up my unifi doorbell to my sonos sytem
and hue and stuff like that
I feel liberated ! finally lol
Hey there. I'm looking for assistance installing HAOS into proxmox. The KVM image download (haos_ova-11.1.qcow2.xz) from https://www.home-assistant.io/installation/linux isn't recognized by tar. Has anyone encountered this?
Well it's not a tar file. Follow this <#1162789585894514748 message>
Also see here: <#general-archived message>
thanks!
how to check whether how mcuh progress is made on backup restore?
I have started full restore on a rpi4 for last one hour but see no progress
The only way to check remains to tail the log from what I can tell.
Enter login there, then run docker logs -tf hassio_supervisor to tail the log
connected via hdmi cable to rpi4
don't have a working usb keyboard so can't do that at this time
just like onboarding there should be a log for backup restoration too
<#installation-archived message>
Not sure what came of it but it was very recent.
any feature request filed?
or any PR ?
No idea. Not me
@rain oasis any PR for progress bar/ visual indication for backup restore?
my tailscale network is up i.e Homeassistant node
my adsb radar addon is feeding data
but I can't ping my HA server strange
what is the supervisor port
Hi all, due to HA not wanting to run anymore (probably due to unexpected power outages), I had to reinstall HA completely. I am running a i5 machine with 16Gb memory with Debian stable. I installed the homeassistant supervisor as I did last time (years ago), but this time I noticed that the add-on menu option under settings was missing. Seeing as I did most of my editting in visual studio, it's kind of a bummer that it disappeared. How can I get it back? I tried to look up the addons docker instance but I cannot find one....
Another Supervised victim
yeah, true.....
i got it to work by updating debian to stable. edit the sources.list, change your distro version to stable, apt update && apt upgrade && apt dist-upgrade && apt upgrade, then reboot.
A couple of automations in the automations list now got a red icon: automation not available. Since 2023.11 i think this afternoon
Check the logs
when i try to save the automation i get errors regarding missing devices, so i think its solvable
like these: Message malformed: Unknown device '626a59c5401566d9df44e131ee751b1b'
so maybe some fell off and i didnt know, but this update makes it visible?
2023.10 seems to have started making those actual problems, rather than things in the log
red icon is way more visible so i dont mind
what i rrrrrrly like is more verbose zigbee error logging
but thats a different story
You can set any integration to log more than others
been able to do that since day 1
of HA
also when tracing an automation? like which exact device errors out?
Well, the trace has that already, doesn't it?
i get stuff like: error at step5, device doesnt respond. well. which.... like setting a scene with 10 lights...
you're assuming that HA checks to see if the device responded
it does not
it's a fire and forget
ah ok. didnt know that
if you checked to see if devices responded, automations would be slow AF
so its an UDP-ish protocol instead of TCP
thanks for the help. Im off fixing the red automations
Hey guys, I recently restored a HA backup to my RPi and when I did a full restore (versus partial), I cannot update HA Core from 10.2 to 10.5, and more recently, from 10.2 to 11.0.
Home Assistant 2023.10.2
Supervisor 2023.10.1
Operating System 11.1
Frontend 20231005.0 - latest
I've tried "ha core rebuild", "ha core update", etc from the web terminal, etc but nothing I do seems to work
I did a fresh install of 10.5, a partial restore of everything besides for 10.2 core, but then I saw that I lost all my yaml files, www folder, lovelace templates, etc.
So is there anyway to restore a complete backup without having HA core forever stuck on 10.2?
@trail shell I am quite litterally on the same issue here, restoring the core will just give infinite reconnecting...
having problems with my old HA so I decide to create a new sd card is there an easy way to migrate devices, automations and node red flows?
is it also ha core 10.2 in particular?
No mine got stuck on 10.4
Is there a method to get a full backup of all the user data and manually "restoring" that to a fresh install without overwriting 2023.10.11?
Have you tried leaving it for a long time before giving up and restarting your device?
Mine did get restored now, after a long wait, maybe 30+ minutes
Lots of things not working yet though, but oh well... more time to spend on the hobby I guess ๐
No, it's been like this for over a week already
Are you trying to install it on the same SD card or a different one?
same card, fresh install
It could be sd card corruption right?
Maybe worth a shot. Thank you
IM trying to pull the docker container but it keeps failing on a single github download
Can I install haos on digital ocean and it gets stuck on booting from hard drive any ideas why?
theere could be 100s of reasons that doesn't work. But the most prominent reason is: HA wasn't designed for that platform.
Hi experts, I would like your recommendation on my setup for HA.
I want to setup HA on an old laptop, because I would also like to use it as a NAS or nextcloud server. With that in mind, what would be the best setup? A Windows machine, with proxmox with HAOS and nexcloud on a docker?
Proxmox
Technically it should just work it takes all the types of images and I cant think of why it would be stuck using legacy bios so its likely uefi as well so it should work
Seems very strange to run a local automation platform in the cloud
right but it isn't designed to do that, at all. So there's many things that could go wrong.
I suggest you go w/ docker if you're planning on going the cloud route
Yep thats what I had to do
Hi, after setup my Add-on Store section should list actual add-ons, right?
I got HA Yellow shipped through Crowd Supply, already tried "Check for updates" and tried manually adding the main add-on repo but it says it's already added.
Do you mean the additional community add-ons aside the official ones in the add-on store?
Hey one question i have an old pc with an i5 4670K, is it possible to install Home Assistant Operating System onto it as simple as on an raspberry?
I dont want to run a docker or a VM something, just the simplest method like on a raspberry?
Yes: https://www.home-assistant.io/installation/generic-x86-64/
But that's total overkill and a waste not to virtualize.
What is the advantage of virtualization?
At bottom here: <#hardware-archived message>
<#installation-archived message>
Some performance stats if overhead is what you're afraid of: <#general-archived message>
Nah i just want it as easy as possible because im not into Linux, just want a HAOS that i can simply Update and control my SmartHome ๐
Yeah then it's probably best to stick to your original idea
VMWare 17. Furthest I've gotten, is this expected?

If I have HA on Pi. how can I access the Config yaml file? I have tried file editor or Samba and neither will access it..for some reason.
With HAOS those are two of the standard ways
thats what I was thinking too. but I try to start them and they wont even start. which might be another issue at play.
Well, you could have opened with that detail
Head over to #add-ons-archived and share the log details
Did a new installation of HA and did the restore from backup but all my devices say unavaialable
Are those devices related to add-ons like Mosquitto?
switches and lights
Integrated via MQTT?
probably do I need to restart my rpi
If you haven't rebooted the Pi after the restore - yes
I haven't will do thanks
OK better, question in my UI some devices have sliders to turn on and off while others have lightning bolts, why is that?
Because HA knows the state of some (sliders) and not of others (bolts)
why would that be they are all sonoff devices?
So thats why as soon as I click on the they get the slider back butthen eventually they go back to bolts
Sounds like a problem with the integration/those devices
Got something else going on too, I did a new install and did restore from a backup and now getting Out of Memory errors Killed process #### ( node-red)
Reboot
is there a better way to reboot than unplugging RPI
c isn't doing anything?
Works for me
oh jus takes a while
is there a way to monitor memory usage, keep getting out of memory error but not sure what is causing it
OK found it under settings->system->hardware RPI is running .8gb but not sure why?
hey guys i'm trying to install HAOS from an usb drive on a Dell Wyse 5070 with Intel Celeron J4105, 8GB Ram, 64GB SSD but am stuck booting the installation from the usb disk with "A start job is running for HAOS swap (time counting)". any idea?
Install from an USB drive? HAOS has no installer. That stick IS your installation
oh gotya, my bad, somehow thought that was an installer but your right its just the image flashed to the usb drive and thats nonsense in my case, will boot an ubuntu or something and flash the internal ssd from there, thx ๐
Either I guess. Is there any expected configuration where you'd go to Add-on store and not see any add-ons listed? Should it show some list without me having to type search terms and without enabling developer mode?
At least some add-ons should show up. Sometimes the community add-ons are missing. A fix for that is in the ๐ of #add-ons-archived .
Ah ok, looks like they filed https://github.com/home-assistant/supervisor/issues/3754 for it in Feb, now closed as stale but still requires workaround?
Hi y'all!
I want to install HA on Kubernetes with an Nginx ingress controller as a reverse proxy. The issue I am running into is that the internal kubernetes cluster ip that acts as a prxoy isn't static and the configuration.yml requires a static proxy ip. Any way I can fix this issue? I cloud add the ability to use a regex for the proxy url but I don't know if that would be accepted in the github project
I'm having alot of issues restoring a backup. I'm runnig HAOS in proxmox and started having issues after some recent upgrades where Node red would consume lots of CPU and stop responding/crashing. Decided I'd downgrade, but having issues here aswell.
I've left the backup process running for hours, it never finishes. ha jobs infoseems to get stuck on the vscode addon restore process.
I even configured a new VM using the latest image availabe for HA, tried restoring backup and this too seems to take forever (1 h now)
Is there any way for me to check what the OS is working with? I have cli access

Please no. Use a picture as explained above or better, add a serial device to the VM and usextermso you can copy/paste stuff: <#installation-archived message>
You can also use this to push the logs to dpaste:
As for the other thing the best you can do is probably to tail the supervisor log: <#installation-archived message>
seems to get stuck on the vscode addon restore process
Please share what made you think that.
Thanks @raven forge seems VM needs a restart after adding serial device, will do this later as it's in the process of restoring (I think)
- (On the new VM that's currently restoring bkp): tailing the supervisor logs I see a reacurring INFO message about frigate addon getting network access
- (Old VM) reason I'm thinking it the backup somehow get stuck on vscode is that
ha jobs infonever finishes with this addon (left it for 3 hours) I've seem thatha jobs infocycles through the current job, but never finishes when it gets to vs code. I' thinking maybe retrying restore with vscode deselcted
It would be useful to share exactly what you see.

this is on the new VM - trying to access the server in the browser, I'm greeted with the onboarding page (after a good hour has passed). The new VM shows no jobs running (but it has shown jobs during this hour)
ha addons displays my restored addons, but HA never rebooted and as mentioned, I still get greeted by the onboarding page. Should I simply reboot manually?
Yes, try a reboot. Actually, shutdown, add the serial device, then cold boot. Addons need intervention after a restore but I'm not hopeful that onboarding will change to a login screen.
You are correct, still at onboarding.
I've added the serial device so I can now copy/paste, thnx!
I wen't through the supervisor logs and I can see references to the addons I restored, however, now I also see this entry in the logs:

I'm a bit split on how to approach this and try and get back to normal.
I have a mostly working VM (old one) where my main issues is with Node red using lots of CPU and no loading ingress or loading and acting normal and then crashing after some time, or should I try and move everything to my newly configured.. I though that maybe that would work better, but seems something is broken with my backup file maybe
ok, I think I'm sticking to my original installation
I started node red in safe_mode and I can now access my flows again. This makes me believe there is something in a flow somewhere that's causing the issues I'm having.
Anyone know a way to troubleshoot without having to enable one flow at a time?
The full supervisor log might provide some context. Otherwise I have no idea at the moment
Trying to restore from backup during installation... but I get https://imgur.com/a/gGs6lnb
That's a full backup I created like an hour ago.
okay, it works in Chrome, but not Fx.
1.5 years later and this has no fix...
HAssi needs to add an "Optimized for Google Chrome" animated GIF.
If you mean HAOS: https://www.home-assistant.io/installation/generic-x86-64/
HAOS indeed
Assuming you use HW raid that should work. I don't think HAOS supports software raid. There's no installer either.
I suggest virtualizing it.
Oh man, the restore is taking forever.
It's over an hour now.
Hm, it's actually restored and working. Just the "restore" view doesn't notice.
Hm, not everything is working
You usually have to reboot after a restore. Not sure why it's not mentioned anywhere
OK, let's try that.
deconz is not starting :-I
mqtt is fine, but deconz is broken.
I completely reboot with a power-off. Now deconz runs -- but some zigbee devices are not working (but some are...)
I guess the deconz backup didn't really work.
Looking into the deconz app I see most of the devices are disconnected :-I
Hm, weird... this looks more like signal issue.
60 m^2 apartment and we have coverage problems ๐ฆ
Zigbee range is relatvely tiny
I guess concrete walls are not helping either.
You need a few routers and there might also be interference from USB 3, WiFi and so on but that's more #zigbee-archived territory
We have tons of routers in the network.
But yes, the spectrum is probably rather full.
This might be useful: https://github.com/zigpy/zigpy-znp/blob/dev/TOOLS.md#energy-scan
Not that changing channels is fun.
This is just the Deconz part: https://i.imgur.com/vDwZAvS.png
Interesting, I'll look into that.
Does HAOS support connecting over WiFi? That would make repositioning the RPi easier.
@urban folio you can go to settings > system > network for connecting to wifi. You would have a different ip address using that
Well, given how full the ISM spectrum is here, I'll stay with wired network.
I'm trying to setup/ship a configured raspberry pi with some zwave motion sensors and a few addons to a friend of mine. Is there any way I can pre-configure HAOS or anything I can do to reset the state of it (minus those config changes) before mailing it out? like removing the user, unsetting location, etc.?
What are you talking about?
I asked earlier today if it is possible to configure a raid1 setup for Home Assistant OS
I don't like to run it virtualized, but there is no other option, I think
For RAID you would have to consult the manual of your mainboard (if it supports RAID) or of your RAID controller.
Reference: #installation-archived message
My motherboard does not support raid and there is no place for a raid controller in my case
You're just making the mainboard the single point of failure and possibly can't even exchange it for another one
So I have to virtualize it ๐
Why are you against it? It's awesome
Had some trouble with passthrough before
I used Truenas scale on my main server and ran HaOS in a VM
I recommend a "real" hypervisor platform
Something that specializes on that. I use proxmox VE but there's others as well
Hey guys!

Hass.io was the old name for the appliance like install option, that uses Docker. It was renamed in January 2020 and is now called Home Assistant OS.

It seems like Restore doesn't restore config of the Network Storage?
Anyway, my yesterdays issue with lot of stuff not connecting to ConBee coordinator seem to be fixed by putting the ConBee dongle on a short extension cord.
Hello guys!
I have a Home assistant in Vbox. It have been running for 1.5 years w/o problems. Yesterday I figured out, the storage what the *.vdi file takes is 50 GB (!). I could not get information what takes up so much space... I connected through SSH and installed the Midnight Commander (mc) to check all dirs in root, but nothing.
Do you have any idea what I missed? Thank you in advance.
Oh, and I runned this: vboxmanage modifyhd haos_ova-9.5.vdi --compact but it did not help.
Hi! I've done a fresh install of HAOS on x86-64. I got the "this might take 20 minutes" message in the browser view. Now I'm getting connection refused. In core info I'm seeing issues with if version_obj < AwesomeVersion("0.50") with AwesomeVersionCompareException: Cana't compre <unknown > and <SimpleVer 0.50>
Is it correct place to ask for help with Raspberry Pi 3B + Home Assistant + SSD?
I installed HA on an SSD and tried to run it with RPI3 but the U-Boot does not seem to find SSD.
"0 Storage Device(s) found"
What adapter are you using? Not all work
You may also need a powered USB hub since the USB ports may not provide enough power
I'm using official 5V 2.5A PSU. The USB-SSD adapter is Ugreen one.
U-Boot startup log:
https://imageupload.io/ekUNTs0kepoyscr
That PSU is good enough for the Pi and a little bit of power for the USB ports
However, I am able to run Raspberry OS with the same hardware
I've seen lots of reports of power problems on HAOS with hardware that wasn't complaining before
I'm running HA Core on a Windows Hyper-V setup. I am considering getting a Yellow or Green device .. is there an easy way to copy everything over?
Take a backup, download it, restore on the new install
Okay, so it works pretty smoothly then, that's good. I was worried about different platform not playing nicely or something. Thanks!
The backup is just your config, different platforms don't matter
Perfect
Why are all 10.* releases really slow compared to earlier releases? Reboot takes like 10 minutes when before it was like 20 seconds
Trying to update to 2023.11.1 and it takes forever to install and boot after it
No change in startup or shutdown here for 2023.10.x
2023.10.4 was last that worked fine
2023.10.5 here, no issues - what's your install method, and what hardware?
HA OS on Proxmox
Any change to the system load?
Around that time did you add any integrations (including custom ones) or add-ons?
And are all of your hacs custom integrations up to date as well (if you have any)
No. When rolling back to last working snapshot everything works again, but then applying all the updates there is it gets slow
Anything in the logs?
No. Mostly nacks about the MQTT names "MQTT entity name starts with the device name in your config"
Same issue here, long load times after the update/restart.
Still waiting now, its been 10+ minutes, im giving it 10 more.. if it doesnt start i probs have to investigate
Got a screen you can plug in and see what it says?
ah smart, ill give that a go, i shouldnt be turning it off right? incase its still updating
Probably not.
No signal :'(
might aswell give it a powercycle i suppose
After powercycle, i got signal and loads of errors :( either SD corruption or it died .. which would be sad as i probally dont have a backup
error -110 whilst initialising SD card.
invalid bus width
error -22 whilst initialising SD card.
invalid bus width
I'm not sure what's worse. Not having a backup or not knowing whether you have one.
I have no recent experience with booting off of SD cards or that error. After briefly googling for it I'm not convinced whether it's dead or not.
Same here, did some google troubleshooting but nothing.
I might have a backup on the SD. will have to remove the SD card and put it in the pc and check whatsup
when booting up, it also tells me there's no network, but I am not familair with reading boot information. took a couple of screenshots but not allowed to post.

I find a bit more for "error -110 whilst initialising SD card" but only repeated mentions of checking pins and such
It is strange, this all happend after i did the latest core update.
It seems like it can read at least part of the data. I'd plug this into another machine and check the file system or attempt to grab the backups off of it.
that would be my next step, would you reccomend going to SSD instead of an SD card?
Definitely. A powered USB hub is also recommended so it gets enough power.
You got any recommendations? currently looking at this SATA > USB cable.
off topic, the SD card is EXTREMELY slow, like it makes the explorer not responsive
My personal recommendation would be a (U)SFF/Mini PC but I can't bad mouth the pi all day long. Also see here: https://www.home-assistant.io/faq/usb_boot/
I used to host my home assistant on proxmox actually, might have to bring it back
I know that behavior from dead HDDs or scratched CDs. Not a good sign. -110 apparently means timeout so that checks out.
so it might be on the brink of dying
trying to backup the sdcard now, tells me 1 hour remaining for 29mb :O
oh it finished nice.
You could try formatting the card with this: https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter/
And then running h2testw and ValiDrive on it:
- Developers are german: https://www-heise-de.translate.goog/download/product/h2testw-50539?_x_tr_sl=de&_x_tr_tl=en
- https://www.grc.com/validrive.htm
It's basically just to see if you can properly write to it in this case
Im not sure yet if i got my files, all the files that i have from the SD card do not look familair at all.
Yeah then hold off on that for now.
Ah, yeah, that's only the boot partition. The "real" files are on ext4 formatted partitions.
You can use something like linux reader: https://www.diskinternals.com/linux-reader/
thanks for the links above btw.
using the linux reader now, trying to find the "real" files :D
home assistant folder is the one i need i suppose?
backup folder also has alot of .tar files, no dates attached sadly.
I don't have a pi but in my VM it looks something like this (reduced)
# lsblk -po+LABEL,FSTYPE
NAME MAJ:MIN RM SIZE RO TYPE MOUNTPOINTS LABEL FSTYPE
/dev/sda 8:0 0 32G 0 disk
|-/dev/sda1 8:1 0 32M 0 part /mnt/boot hassos-boot vfat
|-/dev/sda2 8:2 0 24M 0 part squashfs
|-/dev/sda3 8:3 0 256M 0 part / squashfs
|-/dev/sda4 8:4 0 24M 0 part squashfs
|-/dev/sda5 8:5 0 256M 0 part squashfs
|-/dev/sda6 8:6 0 8M 0 part
|-/dev/sda7 8:7 0 96M 0 part /var/lib/NetworkManager hassos-overlay ext4
`-/dev/sda8 8:8 0 31.3G 0 part /var/lib/docker hassos-data ext4
As you can see the partition with the hassos-data label is the biggest and it's ext4. That's what you're looking for.
The homeassistant container's /config directory is mounted to /mnt/data/supervisor/homeassistant.
The backup files usually have meta data in the form of access, create and modify time though. On windows you can run dir in the directory where you put the files to see some of it.
I see, gonna go trough that while im making a backup of the supervisor folder before the SD actually dies.
checking files now to see.
ah yes i see the hassos-data
oh wait damn, they have dates on "laste modified"
That's the meta data I was talking about.
you are a legend
If you use View > Details in explorer you can right click the top column you can add the others as well
nice one!, so i have found the most recent one which would probally be corrupted, and the other very recent one which was 2 days ago.
You could see if you can extract it with 7-Zip or whatever you are familiar with without it complaining.
yes, everything is in there.
I suggest the following then. Flash another SD Card with HAOS, try to restore and if that worked test the old SD Card with the tools I mentioned earlier.

Hi, anyone with experience of aeon labs z-wave 5+ together with Conbee II for zigbee? HA runs fine with z-wave only but crash as soon as I plug in and start deCONZ addon. Zigbee stick is on a 2m extension. Zwave, zigbee and Bluetooth integrations all crash when zigbee usb stick is attached. Tried to search forum but no solution found so far. Any ideas?
Are you using those on a passive USB hub?
