lavish shard
#

I installed a nextCloud custom addon. And it requires me to edit config.php file

raven tinsel
#

XY-problem 🙂

lavish shard
#

So i need to get access to the files within the container

raven tinsel
#

That doesn't work, as that is not persistent

#

anything editted in an add-on container is lost later

#

So, my guess is you are misunderstanding the instructions

lavish shard
#

You mean lost at an update

raven tinsel
#

do you have a link to that add-on for me?

raven tinsel
lavish shard
#

The original repo is abandoned

#

This is a fork

raven tinsel
#

You mean this part?

lavish shard
#

No. Config.php

raven tinsel
#

The documentation you linked of that add-on doesn't list that?

lavish shard
#

I'm having this issue

#

That requires editing of the config.php which is inside of that addon container

#

nextCloud configuration is mostly manual for stuff like enabling https

raven tinsel
#

Right, that should be exposed in the add-on instead

#

editting files inside the add-on itself is not right and not how it should be solved

#

(as you already noticed by my responses above)

lavish shard
#

So when i reboot HA, my nextCloud configuration will be wiped?

raven tinsel
#

?

lavish shard
#

You said that files inside the container are not persistent

raven tinsel
#

Correct

#

in the container itself it will not presist

#

It applies the config by env variables

lavish shard
#

Then what i can do is make a docker volume

raven tinsel
#

No

#

you can't that part is handled by HA Supervisor

#

if you need manual stuff you have 2 choices:

#
  • Fix the add-on
lavish shard
#

Oh the data is stored on the share dir

raven tinsel
#

?

#

omg

lavish shard
#

The link you sent sets the config folder on an smb share

#

This way it doesn't save the config inside the container

raven tinsel
#

why does it even handle env variables in that case? :S

lavish shard
#

For first time setup

lament otter
#

I'm going to just say it:

#

This add-on sounds absolutely terrible, you shouldn't use it

brittle night
raven tinsel
#

Yup that might be a good source as well

#

Having to go into containers to edit files means either of the following:

  • Adding needs to be fixed or extended
  • One is doing it wrong 😬
  • Look for a better one
  • You are wanting something excotic, an add-on might not be a solution to go for.

With the Grocy addon. It turns on my torch whenever it attempts to do the barcode scanning. Which is then blinding and causes it to fail to scan anything, any ideas on turning it off? I've searched through the menus best I can. Hidden config item maybe?

There's also FEATURE_FLAG_AUTO_TORCH_ON_WITH_CAMERA which is a config option, you should be able to configure that

Hi all, I've been searching for a good source of actionable information for a layperson on InfluxDB.autogen downsampling.

#

The InfluxDB web repository refers to a completely different version nowadays as compared to the add-on in HA, making it difficult to translate functionally.

Has anyone encountered a how-to on setting up appropriate queries to down sample existing data, modifying the defult autogen database and setting up buckets for everything?

So what's the deal with Z-WaveJS lately??? A year or so ago everything worked tickety-boo but these last 4-6 months or so, I've had several devices go ☹️ . Today I restarted my host ODROID and I had 6 of them come up ☹️ - 2 locks, 3 iBlinds and 1 switch. A simple ping restores them but I have repeatedly had a Zooz dimmer and one iBlind which have frequently gone ☹️ several times a week. I've made no changes in z-wave, zigbee, BT or my wi-fi for almost a year now... 😥

I can't directly see the camera feed for some reason over the VPN.

bitter skiff
#

It really doesn't sound like you're following the docs. You can use additional_hosts in the Cloudflared addon to expose additional services beyond HA and if you need to, there's a config for Nginix Proxy Manager if you're looking to go that route, but neither of those require you to do any certificate or TLS set up. Cloudflare will take care of that on the external side.

To my knowledge you need to access it over a secure connection, I don't believe it itself needs control of the certificates

@zinc terrace have you made any progress? My MariaDB just completely collapsed again during the day with nothing to explain why.

#

None of the backups are working, and there doesn't seem to be anyone able to assist here, so I am slowly devolving into madness, losing data every day.

I'd love to take all the long terms starts, drop the current states and move to a brand new installation but doing it through myPHPadmin is also not working.

If anyone can offer any assistance how to get out of this vicious cycle, I would greatly appreciate it.

I'm trying to move files to my media folder from my iPad using the Files app connected to the Samba share. I keep getting an error 100093, and people seem to believe it's related to readonly permissions. There are some configs people have used to tweak their Samba setup, but I can't find the "global" config.
Has anybody moved files to a samba share using the iOS Files app before? Any hints on configuring samba a bit more?

For everything else you have to define them manually

If you're not seeing the Tasmota device publish the payloads to the broker, that's a different problem

(still, if that's Tasmota, you should be using the Tasmota integration, not MQTT Discovery)

Hey so bad news. It looks like the backup is restoring fine now. This was failing on my test server which has more constrained resources. Particularly it's likely that the disk space was the problem. I'm going to resize the VM image now before I stand up my test server and see if that fixes the issue. But after standing things up on my desktop where there are plenty of resources, it seems like mariadb is restoring OK now

#

So you might be on your own :/

#

You said your prod DB seems fine though? Like no errors in logs anywhere?

#

Just problematic when you restore?

#

There's the phpMyAdmin addon where you can look at your data

#

Not sure what that would help with but just an idea

#

Otherwise you might want to get pretty familiar with mariadb

#

Try bringing the table or w/e files over to a standalone mariadb instance and see if it works there

#

And just read up more on the underlying architecture of mariadb to understand what those different file types are that it said were corrupt

I want to try and make an add-on to take readings from my water meter. Getting it running on a pi without ha needs the dev environment, rtl-sdr, rtl-wmbus, wmbusmeters, MQTT + usb access. Is it possible to do all this from within an add-on or do I need to get root access to hassio to install some of the stuff outside the add-on?

Wmbusmeters (W-MBus to MQTT)
Current version: 1.11.0 (Changelog)

steep zealot
marble oasis
#

i didnt realise someone had already worked on it thanks, ill give it a try

steep zealot
#

Works like a charm, as long as you can keep your adapter rebooting (since they often lock up).

#

Depending on your water meter, there are even auto-discovery scripts for MQTT

#

I've created one for IZAR meter, but it's still a PR and not in yet.

steep zealot
#

@zinc terrace have you ever seen this - I am really at my whits end. Tried 10 different ways to go from a working DB to a new instance and always get corrupted DBs both in influx and maria
https://i.imgur.com/2O0Sy99.png

#

I seem to be extra 'special' that no one else is having any such issues.

zinc terrace
#

Did you try just doing a partial restore of only maria?

steep zealot
#

Yes - 4 times. Doing it right now again with slightly different process.

#

Making small changes to my process and trying to figure out where the hell the issue is.

#

Just purged it to 3 days and left 500mb in it, just long term stats.

#

If this doesn't work, I have no idea what to do next

#

I am starting to believe it's the influx DB that is causing it

#

If the InfluxDB fails to backup correctly all the time and cases the backup files to be corrupted, this could explain things

zinc terrace
#

So if you just backup and restore maria it's fine?

steep zealot
#

Before it would fail every time

#

It's 530mb and it went through.

#

So there is that.

#

I will probably have to get the InfluxDB gutted to the absolute minimum and try then.

#

Do you by any chance know how to graph long term statistics? I'd like to check their integrity by can't figure out how

analog bridge

MotionEye is not uploading to the sftp server. I am getting no errors at all and I can add files just fine when I log into the sftp server myself.

#

Note, I am not using the sftp addon. I am using a container for that on another system. I am using the motion eye addon

marble oasis
#

the main document seems to indicate adding it to a conf file, but the add-on doesn't have any conf files to edit

steep zealot
#

I don't want to be one of these people - but google is your friend here. There are step-by-step guides you can use.
This said, since you are using IZAR meters, if you want I can upload the auto-discovery config I've created and you can just put it in, restart and have it autopopulate everything... 😉

#

You need to create an izar.json file in this folder

steep zealot
#

You need to identify which IDs are yours and which are for your neighbors. I use 2 meters, hence two entries.

marble oasis
#

I saw that information, ive no idea what to do with it though. I have added whats needed to the configuration.yaml at the end

#

The issue seems to be too specific to the add-on to get an answer from google

steep zealot
#

1st link from the top that isn't the actual addon

#

Step by step

#

I am being thick sometimes and can't follow what good people here are trying to tell me but that's just lazy...

marble oasis
#

it doesn't help because i don't understand where to add the meter information, I must have spent about 2 hours trying to figure it out

steep zealot
#

I've given you my config which is matching exactly the documentation and both of the step by step manuals, I really do know how to help you any further but to remote into your PC and copy paste the code from these websites into your addon config:
https://i.imgur.com/od7h5bg.png

marble oasis
#

the other addons i installed to adjust files only allow editing the config/yaml files, they don't give access to anything else

#

dont worry about it then, thanks for the help so far. I am just missing something major somewhere which is supposed to make this easy 😦

steep zealot
#

This couldn't be any simpler!

#

You have to understand that the process here is in many steps:

  1. The radio signal is detected
  2. The telegram is decoded
  3. The telegram information either matches the meters listed above or not
  4. If yes then this information is passed onto HA as a JSON
  5. You can then either create a manual MQTT sensor (as described in these two manuals) or use my autodiscovery JSON file (as described above) to have the entity auto create a nice meter
#

If that is not detailed enough, I must ask that you read through the information in these manuals and figure out what you don't understand. Then look for that answer, and so on until you get what you need.

marble oasis
#

I think I have it, my options page was different to yours, i needed to click the dots and choose to edit in yaml for it to swap over

steep zealot
#

But that is the same as any addon you've ever installed....

marble oasis
#

im quite the novice to this, its the first time ive needed to do it

steep zealot
#

You can also add the meters from the interface, if you see fit, but that is in my opinion more error prone.

marble oasis
#

one other thing, my electic/gas meters are similar design, are they likely to be getting picked up as water meters by the addon?

steep zealot
#

The addon doesn't pick up 'meters'. It picks up telegrams which give you the information in the logs of the addon what brand of meter it is.

#

Then you specify the meter by giving the addon a template - the driver, to decode this telegram

marble oasis
#

thanks again for the help, I should be ok now I know how to edit the config files

steep zealot
steep zealot
#

@zinc terrace, I've narrowed it down to large MariaDB and large InfluxDB being a culprit. I've downsampled influx to half it's original size (it's at 5GB now -yes I know it's still massive) and I can at least transfer mariadb alone.

#

Now working on creating continuous queries for Influx to downsize it even further to about a 1-2gb

#

This should allow influxdb to backup correctly and I'll finally be able to transiton to a new VM

#

The old one is now such a joke - it crashes every few hours spiting out errors every hour about something different. It's like a 30 year old tractor held together with zipties and luck..

Hello, I am having trouble starting addons like the file editor or VS code. It was working last night, and I haven't done much except change a dashboard. Even when I reverted to an earlier backup, the add ons arn't working. After googling, I thought maybe my firefox tracking protections might have been the culprit, but even after disabling them for home assistant didn't fix the problem.

my log from studio code server ends with:

[2023-01-29T21:11:47.813Z] info - Not serving HTTPS

thanks for any help.

Full backup runs at 4:00 am and recorder does not resume when backup is finished? The Logbook will display new entries as they occur while it as active but it cannot retrieve any historical events since 4:00 am. Any reason why?

i am migrating from docker to HAOS and i have a tonne of devices setup with the old one and i dont want to reconfigure them all (i have given the new VM the same IP as the old one)

yes but i cant figure out where to put that for the addon

That says it's for ACLs, but that enables the /share/mosquitto dir as an include_dir where you can put additional configs

Hi all, whats the best way to externally connect to HA, Nextcloud and Jellyfin (all installed via HA addons)? I do not want to expose each port and already use DuckDNS and Nginx for HA

hushed steeple
# jade bay Hi all, whats the best way to externally connect to HA, Nextcloud and Jellyfin (...

Just in case you don't know, the best way, if you ask me, is to use the Nabu Casa subscription. https://www.nabucasa.com
Not opening a port was a requirement for me too, and considering that the subscription solved my problem quickly and allowed me to support HA, that was a win.
I'm curious to hear about DiY solutions. My guess would be a VM hosted on a cloud instance with a reverse proxy to your HA IP, and a set of rules to restrict access to the port on your IP from the cloud instance only.

#

i prefer to have node red in a dedicated tab, otherwise i keep absentmindedly clicking on another HA tab and loosing changes

#

actualy, that was with an external server and a custom full screen dashboard loading the webpage, is that still an issue with the addon version?

oblique leaf
somber heart
#

ok ill stick to using them in their own tabs

#

how do you embed Grafana graphs in other dashboards with the addon version?

#

i was doing it by just using a url embed before but that had some issues with remote access, is there a more intergrated way with the addon?

oblique leaf
#

If you assign it a port, you can access it from anything

somber heart
#

ok so still using an iframe card to embed it into other dashboards?

oblique leaf
#

I have Grafana in anonymous auth mode and then I can access it on that port from any device in my house without needing to deal with HA auth

somber heart
#

what about external?

#

i have HA behind nginx but i couldent work out how to use HA auth for Grafana so i have to use the nginx auth and that dosnt work with the app

#

in a browser i just go to my main nginx page and login but in the app that dosnt work because the cookies dont transfer from the mobile browser to the app

oblique leaf
#

Using the separate port doesn't share auth, but if you go to Grafana from inside HA it uses Ingress to proxy the connection and handle authentication

#

Your Grafana URL would look something like https://homeassistant.mydomain.com/api/hassio_ingress/

somber heart
#

ok

#

could i proxy a normal url, say https://homeassistant.mydomain.com/nodered to the ingress url so that it uses HA auth for login?

oblique leaf
#

Is the goal to just have Node Red open in a separate tab?

somber heart
#

yes

#

while not on the home network

brittle night
#

it would make more sense to just proxy another subdomain for it..

somber heart
#

why?

#

i am only using subdomains for HA, everything else is /service

oblique leaf
somber heart
#

yep its the ingress link i need

oblique leaf
#

That URL won't prompt you for login though, it just gives a 401 error if you try to visit it unauthenticated

somber heart
#

so i can just use a url rewrite in nginx to change https://homeassistant.domain.com/nodered to https://homeassistant.domain.com/hassio/ingress/a0d7b954_nodered internaly

somber heart
#

i assume this will also work for grafana graphs if i use the ingress link to embed them?

oblique leaf
#

Yeah. The only quirk you can run into is if your HA session expires then you'll get a 401 on the Ingress link until you refresh the HA page and it renews the session. At least I think that's what was happening to me

somber heart
#

at the moment i get this https://imgur.com/a/VfiaFWl if i am not logged into Organizr (what nginx is using for its auth backend) and that means i cant use those graphs for people (like my dad) who have HA logins but dont use Organizr, it also dosnt work in the app

ok just thought i would follow up on the discussion from earlier about proxying the ingress URLs to get a neater url for external access. it sort of works, it breaks down if you try and remove the /api/hassio_ingress from the domain because the cookie that stores the ingress auth is tied to that path. so while you can shrink https://homeassistant.domain.com/api/hassio_ingress/8FB_tIHi0ElfdrghyzbhwOh_KYejUO0uaWBXZby-JEi down to https://homeassistant.domain.com/api/hassio_ingress/nodered, you cant go all the way to https://homeassistant.domain.com/nodered which is what i was aiming for

# glacial needle any solution to it?

They try to conserve IPv4 adresses by bunching you in with other customers to one ip adress and doing some routing on their end before traffic arrives to you. That unfortunatly makes things like fowarding ports and accepting outside connections near impossible, that is for IPv4. You can however use IPv6 as those arent as limited and are used to tunnel the IPv4 to you. You should already have a static IPv6 address or even a whole adressspace assigned to you if you are dualstack/dualstack-lite customer. Therefore you can use IPv6 to connect from the outside (that is if your outside connection is IPv6 capable).

radiant notch
elder geode
# radiant notch Assuming their isp supports IPv6. A lot still don't

Well its pretty likely they support IPv6 if they are using CGNAT. Because routing the traffic from the CGNAT to the consumer is done using IPv6 in almost all cases as its already implemented commercially available and doesnt require them to adapt a new protocol and works on the existing infrastructure of the ISP/Whole Internet

Hey everyone! 🙂
I am running the MariaDB addon as the DB for my recorder. Is there a way to migrate the DB from that addon to a new instance?

viscid orchid
#

it should be part of a full backup

patent copper
#

Sorry, my bad. To clarify, I want to run a MariaDB instance outside the HA ecosystem, so not an addon.

#

I see that there is a mysqldump tool that seems to fit the bill, but I guess I have no console access to the addon?

viscid orchid
#

if you can't use that from within one of the ssh addons, it looks like you can specify a port in the MariaDB addon for external access from somewhere where you can

patent copper
#

That seems to work...

patent copper
#

Hmmm... It seems I have to stop the DB before exporting it using mysqldump. I get an error warning about corrupt DB when importing it again...

#

Is there a way for me to stop the DB application inside the container?

viscid orchid
#

stop the addon

#

well, then you can't get to it 🙂

patent copper
#

Exactly! 😉

viscid orchid
#

if you stop HA, it should be in a quiescent state, right?

#

it's the HA database, after all

#

I don't know what it means to "stop" the database

patent copper
#

Yeah, maybe... I suppose on a VM you could do systemctl stop mysql or something, but as the addons doesn't expose a console...

#

But, I can try with HA stopped.

#

That is a good idea.

viscid orchid
#

yes, just do that. anything else is probably fraught with peril

patent copper
#

I feel like I am dangerously close already!

viscid orchid
#

the point is that you care about the data, right?

patent copper
#

Precisely!

viscid orchid
#

it's easy for me because I don't care about the data and am fine with blowing away the database if necessary

patent copper

@viscid orchid Just to let you know that using mysqldump works perfectly! But it seems stopping HA before doing the dump is essential.

#

Also, restoring the backup file is straight forward even without access to the DB application or console of the container.

#

Only requirement is that the DB is accessible over your network...

brave basin
#

Ok so it seems VSCode works fine when I'm using it locally, but when I'm remote (through Cloudflare) it doesn't work. Where do I start looking for the reason for this?

It is not possible to configure recorder to use sockets to connect to a DB running as an addon, is that correct?

meager anchor

It seems to fix itself tho

#

So what happened is I press upgrade it just keep updating for over an hour

Raspberry Pi Remote GPIO
The rpi_gpio integration is the base for all related GPIO platforms in Home Assistant. For the platform configurations, please check their corresponding sections.

The remote Raspberry Pi and the control computer where Home Assistant is running must be prepared to run remote_rpi_gpio, see details here.

Note that for virtual environments you may need to set an environment variable when starting the environment to set the pin factory, example:

Hello. Tried to update mqtt today and apparently 1024-bit keys aren't secure enough anymore (openssl security_level=2) and the daemon won't start. ESP8266 barely work with 1024, so longer is not an option, and the worst legacy nodes I have are pinned to this cert as well, so I need to find each of them and move them to port 1883 instead..

Is there a way to set the security_level of the mqtt addon down so I can stand up my current 1024-bit key while I find and fix all the nodes that will not cope with things changing?

Hello knowledgeable people 🙂

I have a question about DHCP on HA.

Can it provide DHCP services for several different subnets over different LAN interfaces?

I am aware HA is not a DHCP server, I was thinking more about the DHCP addon, or the DHCP module in the AdGuard addon.

I know this is a very niche use-case..

I need some help, i'm the creator of the DSMR Reader addon: https://github.com/sanderdw/hassio-addons/tree/master/dsmr_reader. Suddenly i can't create new versions as Supervisor complaining about the image missing:

bitter skiff

@proud cipher FYI, Freenom won't work w/ Cloudflare

There's plenty of domains < $10/yr

so new router needs to happen first and foremost

maybe cuz the site is down right now? i dunno i was literally told on a facebook group by multiple people to use that as they currently have it working

bitter skiff

What's wrong w/ your current router if you want to go the port forward route

proud cipher

the port forwarding is done through an app they literally ask me the device (i pick ha) then the port (i put 8123) but then i cant set it up to use port 443 to 8123 as well to incorporate google/alexa device. the interface is terrible i can pm you a picture if you want to se it since i cant upload a pic

what's the next step in that sequence

I'm using Visual Studio Code Server add-on to edit my yaml files. I just start experimenting with !includes to clean up my main configuration files. Here is a snippet from configuration.yaml

# Crestron Integration

crestron:

light: !include crestron-lights.yaml
climate: !include crestron-climate.yaml

What I have found is that when I Save one of the include files, crestron-lights.yaml for example, VS Code removes the leading spaces on each line. I thought that would break the yaml but it does not. Just an FYI. No question here.

# cyan lotus I have installed home assistant on ubuntu through docker, but I can not install ...

Not possible. Addons are docker container loaded by the home assistant OS. Since you run already on Docker you can't run a container in a container. See https://www.home-assistant.io/installation/:

  • Home Assistant Operating System: Minimal Operating System optimized to power Home Assistant. It comes with Supervisor to manage Home Assistant Core and Add-ons. Recommended installation method.
  • Home Assistant Container: Standalone container-based installation of Home Assistant Core (e.g. Docker).
You are on the second option without addons.

I'm editing my yaml file for the first time ever using the studio code server. I'm watching a youtube video and he has spaces after the ":". When I do that, I get an error. Should there be a space after or not? Elsewhere in the default file it seems like there is a space.

bitter skiff
#

Yeah, like between keys and values? service: lock.lock not service:lock.lock

gritty urchin
#

I'm sure it is way too advanced and I'm just using it wrong

bitter skiff
#

Hmmm, it really isn't all too advanced for YAML. It's got schema validation, which is nice to see when you screw things up

#

It shouldn't be doing much else to mess things up

#

If your indentation was messed up, or you were missing spaces, it could collapse those lines

#

whitespace is significant in YAML

gritty urchin
bitter skiff
#

File editor might not automatically merge lines.... but if Code was doing it, it's basically the same way it'd be interpreted one way or the other

gritty urchin
#

It was taking these two lines:

#

and merging them into one.

Then when I went to check on the "check configuration", it would error.

gritty urchin
bitter skiff

Odd, I know people have had issues where they'd restore from a backup and it'd appear that addons weren't started, but a full reboot would solve that problem then going forward

gritty urchin
#

I have an odd ball situation right now where I got distracted and lost where I was in the install process. I see Graphana in the side bar but when I go to the addon page, it isn't listed.

bitter skiff
#

When you click it in the side bar... does it load

gritty urchin
#

It seems to (I don't know what it is supposed to look like). But when I hunt down the add on in the store, it doesn't have the bar above it indicated it is installed and when I click on it, it says it is turned off.

bitter skiff
#

Hmm, really seems like the supervisor is confused some how.... just for fun, have you tried fully powering off the hardware and then turning it back on. I don't really expect a different result, but that's an odd mismatch

gritty urchin
#

I can try that. It is under Proxmox.

bitter skiff
#

Gotcha, yeah just try shutting down the VM and bring it back up

gritty urchin

Have you done a restore recently

mortal panther
#

Not recently

#

Maybe a week or two

bitter skiff
#

I've heard of a couple other people saying their systems won't show add-ons as running until they do a full reboot (Restarting the entire Pi not just HA).

#

I'm not sure why... I don't see that behavior (I don't have a Pi though, either)

#

May try giving the Pi itself a reboot and see if you see it indicate as started then

mortal panther
#

I've rebooted several times, I don't think I've restarted the entire PI

#

Ok, I'll do that now. Is the suggested way just cutting power to the PI and plugging it back in? Or is there a better way

bitter skiff
#

Settings->System->Hardware-> dotsvertical -> Reboot System

#

Not advisable to pull power, as that can cause data corruption

Thanks!

#

OMG that worked!! Thank you so much!!

After upgrading to the latest version of HA + MariaDB, all my data is gone + it's stuck in this mode. Any suggestions on how to get it to work again?

Has anyone figured out a way for us to update our local Tailscale Add-on to a version without CVE's yet?
https://github.com/hassio-addons/addon-tailscale/pull/133 appears very quiet. The add-on seems stuck on a 9 month old version, which doesn't feel very safe for security focussed software like Tailscale.

How can I restart an addon from the cli?

Can't seem to get usage using ha addons --help or anything

Hi Guy's, i have MariaDB running on my Synology nas. Is there a way to migrate back to the Maria DB addon in Home Assistant. i just want to keep my energy data. I have already MariaDB running for Nginx Proxy addon.

supple grove
#

Just export your db from your nas to a file and import it again into your new db

jovial wagon
#

Export file is 1.2 Gig

supple grove
#

Not sure what you use to export/import. You can also use a MySQL client like HeidiSQL

jovial wagon
#

I used phpmyadmin for the export

supple grove
#

It's probably a web server limit you're hitting while uploading

jovial wagon
#

Is that a limit from phpmyadmin?

supple grove
#

No. It's how the web server serving it is configured. I'd import via a client, otherwise you probably have to mess with its configs

jovial wagon
#

Oke thanx, I'll try that.

I agree that that code you had doesn't appear to have ever matched even an old version of what AppDaemon would expect

It looks like maybe you did something to the line after if new == 'on': ?

#

That line should read what I pasted

(I don't know of a better app, but that's because I've not used AppDaemon before 🙂 )

#

Alerts can be done more easily through standard HA automations

Whatever that code did it partially fixed my problem. I am now getting notificiations!! However, I'm getting notifications for EVERY entity that is open for longer than 10 seconds. lol!!

bitter skiff
#

as in not just the front door and garage entry, but others?

void prawn
#

Nope. . . I'm getting it for the roku remote, the t9 motion sensor, the browser dark mode, etc.

#

I just restarted AppDaemon and will see if that fixes it. If not, I will do an entire system reboot

Question. Using Code Server. Is this something in the Docker Container It's asking me to fix or in HA? Unable to watch for file changes in this large workspace folder. Please follow the instructions link to resolve this issue.

I'd flip self.listen_state(self.tracker, entity=door) to self.listen_state(self.tracker, door), see if that fixes it

Well, there's only one log statement in the app, and that's about trying to cancel a non-existent timer

#

If everything is working as expected, there are no log statements

void prawn

#

I don't need a ton of logs to know when something worked so I will leave it as-is! Thank you so much for your assistance on this one!! You are a life saver!! Now I can add more entities as I add door sensors and be all set. . . though, I do have one last quick, easy question on that. How do I add the additional entities to my yaml?? I know and see where to assign them correctly in the .py file so I am good there. It is in the apps.yaml that I am a bit fuzzy on.

#

Hi! I have a third-party add-on that crashes at boot, and crashes so bad that I can't even access the supervisor panel to fix it. The observer says:

Supervisor: Connected
Supported: Unsupported
Healthy: Unhealthy

#

Is there a way to fix this through ssh on the command line?

bitter skiff
void prawn
#

I want to add entities to monitor for my door notifications app; as in another door. I have one already listed in the door_notifications.py code. . . .but how do I reference it in the apps.yaml file?

the apps.yaml is listed at this link at the top: https://pastebin.com/9stdygzj

void prawn
bitter skiff
#

Nah, I don't, all good.

You could change that entity_id to something like

entity_ids:
  - binary_sensor.garage_entry_door
  - binary_sensor.other_door

and update line 8 to fetch from the config https://pastebin.com/XBJpHS7z

#

Then, you'll have to list everything you want to listen to in the YAML

#

Oops that still has the error in line 12

#

have to nuke the entity=

void prawn
#

I just copied line 8 to a notepad++ file and then duplicated the other code and pasted the new line 8 over the top. Now I have both versions saved and can potentially rename one and use both side-by-side to control a certain number of entities with one set time under 'ttl' and another entity or entities under a different set time under 'ttl'.

bitter skiff
#

Sure... you could also add a default TTL and make it different based on each entity.... obviously more config and code updates needed to do that

void prawn
#

As you can tell I know enough coding to get me in trouble!! I can't thank you enough for the help!!!

bitter skiff
#

You bet, glad it's working!

void prawn
#

Do you know much about floorpanner??

#

floorplan

bitter skiff
#

I do not, not something I've used yet

void prawn

It's awesome, but I'm having issues with the css communicating correctly with my button to change floors. . . .I'll get it at some point. Thanks again!!!

hello, im new here and new to using Home assistant. i ran into a new problem today where File editor will not start. It was working fine until i tried to install Studio Code Server and it would not start. I have uninstalled both add-ons and reinstalled File Editor as well as reloading a backup from earlier today and it still will not start. Can anyone please help?

bitter skiff
#

Does it error? Could you share the log file

lethal harbor
#

I do not see any errors

bitter skiff
#

If you click Log at the top, could you share that

#

How are you running HA? VM? Desktop/Laptop? Pi?

lethal harbor
#

Im using OS on x86

#

I sent you 2 files in DM

bitter skiff
#

Could you paste them in somewhere like pastebin.com and share the link, I'd rather not download files 🙂

lethal harbor
#

sure

bitter skiff
#

Hmm seems fine... and so when you click start.... does it spin and just go back to saying start on the addon page?

lethal harbor
#

it just does nothing

#

no spinning or anything, almost like i didnt even click it

#

but get this when i try to open it

#

File editor
Add-on is not running. Please start it first

bitter skiff
#

Could you try rebooting the entire device. The PC itself, not just Dev Tools-> Restart. You can do that by going to Settings->System->Hardware-> dotsvertical ->Reboot System

void prawn
lethal harbor
#

yes trying now

bitter skiff
void prawn
# lethal harbor yes trying now

I had issues with both file editor and sudio code server when I switched from a raspberry pi to the Odroid N2+. I had to reinstall EVERY back up in order to get them to work. . . but that fixed it for me.

lethal harbor
#

i hope i dont have to go back further than today and especially yesterday, Might as well just start a fresh install

sly kindle
#

thing is, neither of those really need backups. File editor? What's there to save

#

Install as new and have the same thing

bitter skiff
#

Hoping the restart does it for you.... I'm not sure what's up, but there's been quite a few people lately that install an add-on and then supervisor seems to go haywire thinking nothing is started, even though things are starting fine.

lethal harbor
#

looks like the reboot gor it back up and running for now. Thank you @bitter skiff

sly kindle
#

Rebooting gets everything starting as it should

lethal harbor
#

of course it was that simple! lol

sly kindle
#

Restarting HA only restarts ha

bitter skiff
#

But you shouldn't need a restart to get an addon started, but that always seems to be the fix here

sly kindle
#

So the supervisor and add-ons have the same miscommunication going on

Make the whitespace match in the new function, Python (like YAML) is very particular about whitespace

lethal harbor
#

ok next question, is there a better editor than file editor, Im having issues with indenting on everthing hanging when i copy and paste code

#

also it would be nice if the file tree stayed up on the left

bitter skiff
#

Otherwise, you can install Samba and edit it remotely, too

lethal harbor
#

i have samba, but how to i access it from windows? i only saw a tutorial for mac

bitter skiff
#

Just like any file share \\homeassistant.local , or use it's IP

void prawn
# bitter skiff Type (tab/space) and amount

I saw where it said that and the code even showed the arrows for tab usage. I just pasted your code into the notepad++ before copying the entire thing over to make sure I had spacing correct. . . .now I know what to keep an eye out for 🙂

lethal harbor
#

ok ill play around some more with it

#

as in do I connect on RDP, set it up as a network drive? i havent been able to get either to work

bitter skiff
#

It'd be a network location, not RDP. If you want to map a drive, you'll need to specify a specific share, most likely \\<yourHAip>\config

#

and then the credentials you configured

#

Also make sure the client you're using to access HA is within the allowed hosts networks

lethal harbor

That is what i needed... thanks again

HELP! Restore from backup caused both Studio Code Server and File Editor to fail!

To undo a failure with a Home Assistant core upgrade (reported in a separate post) I reverted to a full backup I had made a month earlier. That fixed the problem but now neither Studio Code Server nor File Editor work. They both say that the add-on is not running and needs to start. I press the start button but nothing happens.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling. That did not help and in the File Editor case removed it from the sidebar as well.

I tried different backups (in which I know at least Studio Code Server was working) but that did not help.

So, I have no way of editing files in a week when I was planning to do a lot  I need to fix this urgently!

Any ideas?

It is a HASSIO installation.

@bitter skiff I now have 3 different python programs to notify my of certain doors being open after a set amount of time and they send me a different message based on my set time. . . thank you so much for the help!!!!

bitter skiff

🎉 Awesome, glad to hear it, you're welcome

void prawn
# bitter skiff 🎉 Awesome, glad to hear it, you're welcome

One last question. If I want to change seconds to minutes do I simply change the one place seconds shows in the python code to minutes and then change my number in 'ttl' accordingly? I obviously have to change the wording in the message that gets sent out as well.

bitter skiff
#

This line would need to be self.door_timer_library[entity] = self.run_in(self.notifier, int(self.args['ttl'])*60, entity_name=entity)

#

That second argument is in seconds, so if your input is minutes, you'll need to convert it

Hi all. I have Mosquitto broker running and Frigate installed. When I start Frigate, I get a bunch of errors that say, "ERROR : Unable to connect to MQTT server: MQTT Not authorized". However, I can still see the stream in the Frigate web UI. Does this make sense?

I have the Tailscale add-on running on my HA Blue and can access HA via my android phone Tailscale and HA apps. I would also like to access HA via my Windows10 laptop while traveling. I installed and can access Tailscale on the laptop but all I have found so far is how to install HA on Windows10 instead of just the HA app so I can use it with Tailscale as I do on my android phone.
Does anyone have information or a link that tells me how to remotely access my home HA instance via Tailscale on my Windows10 laptop?

bitter skiff
#

There's not an actual app for your desktop, you'd just access it through the Web UI as you'd normally

mortal blaze
#

Does that work outside the range of my wifi like when traveling? (I have no clue)

#

I'd prefer to not open any ports to my network.

#

That is why I use Tailscale.

bitter skiff

That's what Tailscale does... it's effectively a VPN, makes it like you're on your local network
