it clearly heard that you were upset with it
Are webhooks only available to cloud users? trying to use the withings integration
no, you can use webhooks as long as the sender can POST a message to your HA instance
hmm weird, it should be accessible with ssl. It's running behind cloudflare, could that be causing problems?
ill move over to #integrations-archived
Hi!
Is there an option to use my own domain with HA Cloud?
Nope
@hallow seal Maybe I point a CNAME on my domain to NabuCasa domain? I think I'd have to handle the certificate on my own?
is the site down?
nvm, after like 5 refreshes it loaded
but it was giving me a 500 error 😉
Hi who can work on home assistance remote connection without using Nabucasa or VPN for enterprise.
What do you mean by this? You want a remote connection without nabucasa or a VPN? You can just host it like a normal website through a reverse proxy and a domain
Why not just host it yourself? It achieves almost basically the same thing
hey. anyone know if Nabu is down ?
logged out from front end and weirdly could not relog. HA up to date / restarted, nabu ceredentials confirmed correct, etc
@willow dome you don't log in to your frontend using mabucasa credentials
@light bison BC I would have to deal with my dynamic IP
Isn't there a way to quickly access my public hostname without having to save that humongus URL somewhere?
there has to be
Humongous? You mean the nabucasa one?
Yes.
But also if you have dynamic IP, just run some sort of ddns on your network/ unsure if there’s anything for a HA add on that could even do it
Your router might even have the ability to
But then I have to have my HA instance publicly available on the web
which does not happen with HA Cloud
Right?
HA cloud just acts as a proxy for your instance. When you log in you still get your HA instance connected through the internet
All the same security rules should apply (aka 2FA, etc)
I don't think that is the case. Nabu Casa is somehow tunelling the connection
BC my instance runs on an internal IP, on port 8123, and there's not port forward for that
so if someone on the web were to, i don't know, ddos that port
it would hit Nabu Casa first, and as customer, I'd expect them to filter that out
Yes as a proxy. You connect to nabu casa and they’re connecting to you. You are right
It still is your instance though
And if they try to attack the web server inside it’s you being hit
And chances are with a ddos nabu casa’s infrastructure is stronger than yours too
The login page is still your login page
Would you have any details on how the proxying happens?
it has to be a connection that is initiated form my HA instance... otherwise they have no route to it...
As far as im aware it connects to your HA, and routes through them
Avoiding NAT & port forwarding
Though if you complain about the domain name, then hosting it directly is an option. The chance of being ddosed is rare, and making sure your login details are strong are the same for nabucasa or self hosted
A strong password is not a problem... That part is safe.
If you are right, there's absolutely no reason to use HA cloud whatsoever...
what's the gain?
For people who don’t want to bother setting it up themselves or who don’t have a domain
Or who don’t have the ability to (some ISPs restrict behind NAT)
Alright, thank you for the input
previous setup was VPN link between my HA instance and a DigitalOcean droplet
that would then proxy it with nginx
You could also use the new cloudflare tunnels which are something to consider too
It is initiated by your instance, yes
Hi
is there a way to access addons like node-red and Bitwarden etc.. through nabu casa ?
If they support Ingress, yes, through the HA interface. The addon will say if it does.
hi all, i have a nabucasa cloud and i was wondering if there was a way for my google home to read me the status of helpers?
for example i have a contact sensor on my mailbox. it notifies me when the mail arrives (open/close during a specific time, trigger a tts_say). but maybe i miss that tts and i would like to ask in some way "did the mail come?" is this possible or no
@floral igloo this is not directly related to the cloud service but it depends...if it is an open/close binary sensor you would be able to ask "is the kitchen window open?" for example, using the name of the entity. I don't think you can ask "did the kitchen window open?" though
hmmmm okay thanks
what is ingress ?
for example i have Node-RED and AdGuard Home
which work fine over a cloud connection over Nabucasa
but something like BitWarden doesn't work ...
Probably because it doesn't support ingress
note the "Ingress" bubble:
I don't see a mention of BitWarden/VaultWarden anywhere but in the Edge repo
make the sensor turn on a binary helper as soon as it opens.
then make a template sensor that listens to the binary helper and expose that to google
i think
i never did any templating
any known cloud issues at the moment? says I'm connected but remote UI never loads
Is there any way to control feit products without the cloud and without hacking them indiviudally? Shouldnt something via IP be possible?
#integrations-archived may know.
Can't access via Naba Casa here either at the moment 😢
Oups that message was like 2 days ago. Anyone facing issues with Nabu Casa remote access at the moment?
Weird, even though HA said it was connected to Nabu Casa, I couldn't access it remotely. I upgraded to the latest 2022.4.7 and the restart of HA core has likely fixed the issue, all good now 👍
What does Error: invalid client id or redirect uri mean when trying to access Home Assistant?
I have my HA instance set up with a static IP address I have from my ISP.
hi, can i connect 2 alexa accounts to my ha if i have cloud? interested in alexa's baby cry detection, but that echo is not on my own account
@ruby sapphire you can only expose entities to one account
Hi, the Nabucasa Cloud is down? My homeassistant don't Connect
@cursive fern it's your server you are connecting to. The service isn't down
i updated homeassistant to 2022.4.7 and now everything works. thank you👍
i was hoping to find an alexa skill to make an url post request to my home assistant from that second account but there is none 😮
Will NabuCasa ever make it possible to use the add-ons that need to serve on specific ports like Vaultwarden? I really like it and would like to stick to it since it's convenient, but it doesn't completely remove the negative-aspects of being behind a cgnat.
the free Tailscale already makes it possible to reach HA instance remotely, what my only benefit form NabuCasa is that HA also works with Google Home/Assistant
@shrewd minnow it is not likely to become a service to use with any random server, no. The add-ons which support ingress can be reached through HA
it's sad, I would've honestly paid a notch more to have features like that. Maybe you guys should think about a tier-subscription system in the future
At that point it would become a service that you wouldn't need Home Assistant for. 🤷♂️
i'm sure it's here somewhere, but having some trouble finding it. "Just purchased Nabu Casa and it won't let me do the google integration, the link just takes me to a missing page"
@kind spoke the link?
You should first open Google Home, and add nabu casa that way
That was my problem my order of operations wasn't correct! I appreicate it @sharp jasper
is something off at nabu casa's end, i cant seem to access HA via them?
@stiff sluice you're connecting to your own server, so when there is an issue, it is usually there
hi guys im having a problem with nabu casa. am i in the right place to ask for help?
What are your issues?
i have paid the subscription but its saying in not connected to the cloud
home assistant can ping google so i have a connection
What does the cloud tab say?
Active user. You will be charged on Apr 24, 2022.
Cloud connection status
Not Connected
So it hasn’t been paid then
when i try to connect through the browser it fails
Is there a charge against your card?
so i dont actually have a subscription?
The date in the past indicates PayPal hasn't successfully made a charge
i thought it returned a different message when the sub isnt active...but now you mention it i just noticed the date.
I Wonder what it is, i cant imagine i canged much, other then having a proxy setup on port 8100, but thats not the port HA uses right?
@ devs is it possible to make the HA cloud login page's input boxes recognizable as password fields by iOS? I'm using a autogen strong password, it would be cool if I can use keychain rather than manually copy and paste my password over every time
i am relaly struggling getting Google to work with my cloud subscription , i mange to login via the home app but then iget something went worng ... on the ha side i get : Fetched https://remotestate.nabucasa.com/request_sync (500)
unlinking and relinking didn't work.
now i'm getting 2022-05-01 20:41:47 WARNING (MainThread) [hass_nabucasa.cloud_api] Fetched https://remotestate.nabucasa.com/request_sync (404)
@iron bane you might try un-exposing everything (the "manage domains" link makes it easy to turn all off), then expose one simple entity like a light. Leave the page to trigger a sync of that one entity, then try connecting NabuCasa to Google Home app
worked, do you know what could have been the issue ?
Sometimes there's an entity Google doesn't like. Did you add them all back?
Yeah. One domain back at a time. You might pin down something causing a problem, or it could also be too many exposed at once
ha it's a sensor. 😄
thank you i'll try to pin it down it's only 60 possible entities. 😄
Happy (semi-)global annual billing day.
Was pleasantly surprised that G-Pay was an option, as I do like to not have to keep my cc-details up to date on too many sites 👍
I have issues with nabu casa on the site of nc it says I have subscription but HA says that it’s expired what can i do
Has your card been charged at the most recent date
Yup that’s the strange thing about it
currently using the alexa media player integration the one without nabucasa, do you also have to identify yourself every 2 weeks to amazon, when using nabucasa ?
@bright shore the Nabu casa integration is not a replacement for the Alexa Media Player integration. They don't provide the same features
The Nabu Casa integration exposes your HA entities to Alexa.
The Alexa Media Player integration creates fake media players out of your Echoes so that they show up as such within HA.
But to answer your question no you don't have to sign in or re-authorize when using the nabu casa Alexa integration
oh you are right mb
is there something that creates media players that doesnt have to reauthenticated every 7-10 days
That's the only one I know of
It's somewhat of a hack, so...
You get what you get
alright ty =)
Better off for #installation-archived or #general-archived
I am having issues trying to remotely connect to my Hass via nabu casa link. I have the remote UI enabled, when I click the link it asks me to log in, but then it tells me it's unable to connect to home assistant and has a timer to retry.
@summer siren Did you just start having problems with Nabu Casa, or are you just setting it up for the first time?
FWIW, my Nabu Casa has been setup and working for >1 year and some time when I updated to 2022.5.2 (from 2022.3.something) it stopped working. I haven't figured out a solution yet.
First time setup.
I just figured out my issue -- MBAM was blocking connections from Nabu Casa with no notification. I hadn't tested connections on anything except my PC, so I suspect if I'd tried this on my phone I wouldn't have encountered an issue.
It was only blocking connections when trying to connect to my remote instance and not to the actual Nabu Casa website. Kind of obfuscated the problem a bit
@tight loom no notification? You weren't using the browser extension?
@summer siren a timer? got a screenshot?
No notification from MBAM. I have web protection on, but no extension installed in Google Chrome for it. The MBAM logs show the Nabu Casa site is categorized as "RiskWare".
@sharp jasper https://imgur.com/a/BuS3cTU
I did verify that it is enabled on my Hass
@tight loom I had seen the browser guard extension provide a big warning page yesterday and assumed that mbam would do something similar. I just reinstalled the chrome extension and it's not flagging it now 🤷♂️
oh no...I restarted chrome and now I get the timer
nevermind
@summer siren do you use malwarebytes?
@sharp jasper no I don't
And can you try your URL in a private/incognito tab
@sharp jasper same results in an incognito tab
What do you see on your System Health page?
And what date appears for the next charge when you go to Settings > Cloud?
@tight loom Malwarebytes says they will disable the block in their database
An update will be out in a few hours from now
Wow, awesome. Thank you!
Hello
[hass_nabucasa.remote] Can't update remote details from Home Assistant cloud (timeout)
how can I get more information about this error
I have active subscription, ipv6 disabled, pi-hole disabled, started out of nowhere
sent a support request on website no response
@uneven socket unless you were seeing "unable to reach Home Assistant cloud" you don't need to disable IPv6
After some deep dive I think it is related to my ISP but not sure how to proceed. i.e. what to ask to unblock etc. I can't ping the nsi API end point on my home network. But that itself looks like some kind of load balanced, gets resolved to different IP addresses from vastly different IP blocks each time. So this makes me think it is not related to my ISP but maybe home assistant API somehow banned my IP address?
Hi, is it possible to configure a custom domain with the home assistant cloud?
Nope
mjpeg stream using nabu is completely not working
I was seeing some failures this morning as well and had to bounce my Alexa setting to get it to respond
still seeing them, actually:

Yes, its down, please bear with us, we're adding some features to increase reliability at the moment.
from day to day i have problem with Nabu Casa Unable to connect: 502, message='Invalid response status', url=URL('wss://cloud.nabucasa.com/websocket')
@tight osprey Thanks for letting us know. Will you post here when it is back up and running?
Yep.
Still connected here, though I have the same messages
EU Central
Please make do something HA Team i go on vacation i dont have connection to my home!
maybe downgrade OS? to 8.0?
my plane is not waiting for me😄
Yes, we're currently rolling out some stability improvements, unfortunately we're getting caught in some reconnect cycles that affect the deploy.
We are adjusting things to get it back online.
Thanks @tight osprey
Ok so it's not me, phew... I was worried that I broke everything 😅
Looks like the cloud service has been restored, I'm still watching it, but folks should be reconnected shortly if not already.
@tight osprey Thank you for the work and the update. All appears to now be in order for me.
Seems good for me as well, thank you!
Hi, I have an issue with linking Home Assistant and Google Assistent.
The full description is here: https://www.toptal.com/developers/hastebin/suxoqasora
@shy sundial make sure you are only exposing one entity for either of these HA instances
And are both of these using WiFi?
I only have one instance running (just tried it with two different configurations). Connected over LAN. Only one entity exposed. Thank you for the reply
It is really weird. I cannot connect Home Assistant but when I try through Google Home I do see two things change:
[1] temporarily see the Google Assistant part in the Home Assistant Cloud window look as if it is connected. When I click Sync Entities it reverts to Google Assistant is not Activated
[2] On the https://myaccount.google.com/accountlinking page, it appears as Linked
I have fully described the problem better here: https://www.toptal.com/developers/hastebin/imifoyonuc.sql
Help would be much appreciated!
@shy sundial don't click sync entities. A sync happens automatically the first time you add HA to Google Home
hi, i cant get home assistant to recognize my email and there’s no way to contact them. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks
Nabu Casa have a support form at https://www.nabucasa.com/support/
There's normally staff around here too, so you should hopefully get a response from somebody who can help soon
my user name is wlou3, however they want an email and the email i give them isn’t recognized. I’m afraid to log out of HA because i might not be able to get back in. I dont see my email stored anywhere in my profile, etc. really frustrating, sicne i wanted ti try the cloud app so i can control HA remotely.
The email address isn't used for logging in to HA itself, just the cloud service
I'll try the Nabu link above.
Signing up with Nabu worked. Thanks for the tip.
how can i change an invalid password on home assistant?
invalid current password. I need a valid one to change it
@keen kite it's case sensitive
i pasted the exact one in HA from my passward list and it was invalid.
the user name
which is your email address
Wlou3@email.com is going to be different than wlou3@email.com for example
This is in reference to the nabu casa account. Not your HA login
Thank you, I understand. Still, it does not show my devices in Google Home, nor that it is linked (i.e., in the Google Home app it remains under the add new options)
what entity are you exposing @shy sundial
a simple custom virtual switch (a toggle made through the Helper page)
Made specifically for testing this
Hard to say then. If you can't add Sonos either it might be account related
Or you could try clearing data/cache for Google Home and set it up again
Already did that, I'm afraid. Described it in the (admittedly long 😉 ) post.
"I have unlinked, linked, cleared the cache of Google Home & Google app & Chrome, signed in and out of my Google account."
And you still can't link official Sonos?
That is correct. I can link Spotify though
can or can't
Can't link Sonos, can link Spotify
Yes. A router behind a VPN
A router with a VPN behind a modem to be correct
I am able to access HASS from outside my network though, through the Nabu Casa link
eh, VPNs can behave differently
hi again, im trying to log into HA local from nabu casa remote access. Ive used the correct letter case Wlou3 username and the original password i set up, but it says invalid username or password. Any way to see or change that password?
I understand, but I tried it with my VPN turned off as well
It is really an odd issue
there should be two different pw’s for HA and Nabu? Yes?
if I log out of HA without a valid password, how can i log back in?
@keen kite I have messaged you directly here in Discord
sorry, im new here. How do i get there
I found two conflicting answers to a question I am trying to figure out. I do not have nabu casa and i'm aware I can try the free period to test this but maybe someone knows for sure.
I am trying to connect two instances of HA together, however one is behind a 4g router and the duckdns route does not work because of the nat that's in place I guess, does naba casa work exactly the same way?
I found one post where tom suggested that it would work, and another where someone had trouble with getting it to work but never came back to verify if they did or did not get it to work. so not sure if mod tom was incorrect or the other person was just having issues with config
Nabu Casa basically gives you a proxy server in the cloud that HA connects out to, which means that NAT isn't a problem and you'll have remote access. Whether https://github.com/custom-components/remote_homeassistant works or not I don't know, but I'd expect it would.
thx, that's what I wanted to know.
So if I subscribe to nabu casa for a year I pay 65$ while if I pay per month I pay 5$ anyone else wondering about the math here:)
It’s pretty normal for companies to offer discounts for paying a year vs monthly
My point exactly 5x12 = 60$..
It is 6.50 a month though
@opal tundra you're seeing $5 because you use PayPal
Im not following? What difference does that make?
It's an opportunity to switch from PayPal to Stripe without incurring the price increase until the increase is rolled out for everyone (when annual plans are also available for everyone)
It's an awkward phase where you are also in a region where the annual plan is available
ah ok
The way PayPal handles subscriptions, you need to cancel the subscription to switch to another payment method. New subscriptions start at the new price.
When do the new price points happen?
By August it should be the same for everyone, and everyone should see the 6.50 compared to the annual
Digging around but haven't found any good answers - NabuCasa TTS is not working on my Google Assistant devices, checked URLs, tried IPs instead of locally resolved hass.local etc, and it's giving me the error 'media source not loaded"
[140480578741920] Error handling message: Media Source not loaded (unknown_error) 2:50:04 PM – (ERROR) Home Assistant WebSocket API - message first occurred at 8:15:35 AM and shows up 12 times
HAS worked in the past, but as of maybe a month and a half ago, it gave up
I'm talking when I use tts.cloud_say - Text-to-Speech (TTS): Say an TTS message with cloud
so OK... it was media_source in configuration.yaml, but why oh why when I pay for nabucasa do I have to (now) add this manually to my YAML, and isn't the media source THE CLOUD?
@velvet radish it would be this way for any TTS integration now that it is a media source. Using the cloud tts wouldn't change that.
Hi,
a few days ago several lights turned on in my home and the history states "Turned on by Home Assistant Cloud". I use Home assistant cloud with Google Home, so I checked my Google Assistant history but it does not have any entry at that time at all.
Any log or so I could check what happened?
Is it possible to sync my HA devices with two different Alexa accounts?
Is it just a matter of having the skill installed on both accounts?
@old kettle HA can only expose to one account
Even if two accounts link the skill with the same login credentials?
I think you'll lose it for one, but go ahead and try?
😬 I think I will trust you
In my users list, there are 4 Home Assistant Cloud administrators (2 Local) . Why is that? Cant find any other related info on these accounts so hope its not confusing the backend.... please see: https://community.home-assistant.io/t/why-4-home-assistant-cloud-users-and-what-is-home-assistant-content-doing/426322
Note: We are applying a cloud update, there may be a short period of downtime.
@tight osprey is there an issue with Nabu to Alexa? The runners aren't firing on my end. I can sync entities and get status but the Alexa to HA Nabu cloud integration appears down. The usual "X did not respond" voice message from Alexa.
This sounds like it's related. I'm similarly unable to add new devices to Google Home at the moment, and in fact the "Cloud" option isn't even showing up in my settings on hass.
I confirm I can't manage any of my entities from Alexa. They don't show as available. Maybe a Cloud problem
Note: We are applying a cloud update, there may be a short period of downtime.
From @tight osprey about an hour ago
Understood. Thank @Nabu for the update.
Ok thank you!
We'll be redeploying a fix to restore service in the next few minutes as an unanticipated production traffic issue has delayed this update.
would be nice if such planned maintenance would be communicated via twitter/statuspage/hassio
maybe I was looking at the wrong place 🤷♂️ so sorry 4 venting
I’m not able to to turn on my devices through my Alexa but my account is synced
It was working earlier today
ya, its broken!
Will there be an announcement when it’s fixed?
k, was going to write, but i see it has been already explained 😄
NOPE!
i guess there is no announcement anyhow
!
Yes, there will be an announcement.
just add something so users know what's going to happen in the days, so we don't fall from a tree and think something is wrong on our side 😉
I'm waiting on the deploy to take effect now, and service should be restored.
🤮
Thought I'd go with the long technical explanation 😆
i was screaming to my Alexa, i was waiting for her to tell me his new name was Skynet 😄
A longer technical explanation would be that we have been working on updates to allow for horizontal scaling of the service, which is a bit more complex than what we have been running so far, as we transition to being able to deploy regionally. Unfortunately today's deploy did not work out well for this, so a revert is in progress.
Just noticed most of us have the I'm new here symbol. Guess we've all managed to find our way here as the source of information for outages 🙂
No problem, just sitting here in the dark cause who wants to get up to switch on a light 😜
I'll be looking into the best place to announce planned maintenance and updates, as it seems many folks use a variety of sources (twitter, status page, reddit, discord, etc).
As a new user, I checked every where else first. Just happened to see the link to discord on the support page and thought other people may be talking about it. Honestly wasn't expecting to have an official responce here.
Looks like the service is starting to come back, it might be a little lagged here as it catches up.
You could do Twitter and make the bot post the tweet in the discord and ping a role for people wanting to see the announcement
Covers at least two areas where the discord side is automated
Ya, see quite a few places do that now. Personally I don't have twitter but then I always over look discord for such things too. Guess its getting more popular as a source of information.
i guess directly on home assistant as a news, like when there's an upgrade for some integration and so on
That would be a good option too
the first thing i did was connecting to my ha web page to see what was going on, so i would have seen it in an instant
thank you for confirming the outage and that you're working on it 😀
k, heading to kitchen to make some food, thank you for your hard work and keep it up 🙂
It's going to be a few minutes before it completely catches up with the backlog of traffic.
had to stand on a ladder for this, cause can't switch on the extractor hood 🥲
Seems to be starting to come back to life on my side
Confirm back online for me. Thanks! @tight osprey
extremely annoying... and i know what i am talking about as a devops engineer! this SHOULD not be happening... so sorry if i can't be thankful for this issue 🙇
kubectl delete --all pods? 😅
You know you can run HA with out the cloud automation at all if it's that much of an issue to you.
Intergration even
The cloud intergation just makes some of it easier
yes i know it, but i thought if i subscribe to the service... i don't have to investigate in this dev.amazon shit too.
Why I'm using it currently
We do anticipate some upcoming maintenance, which we will be announcing farther in advance, and on more channels to avoid catching people by surprise.
Might look to go direct at some point.
thank you sir, sorry for being rude 🙇
@ruby sapphire Indeed, it's never great when a deploy doesn't work for unanticipated reasons. Scale-out architecture changes are one of the few deploys most likely to not work out right the first time in my experience, which... is unfortunately getting longer. heh
you know sh*t can happens, and obviously it will happens always at the wrong time.
Bashing them with a "this shouldn't happen"will not help them neither, they were for sure under a heavy pressure when they've seen it went wrong, and since you're a devop you should know it better than anyone else ( i'm a system engineer anyway).
I'm sure they weren't happy about it neither
they were fast solving the issue, that's what's important
it will be ok, if this maintenance would be communicated! that is the point.
they'll make it better, as windlepoons wrote above
Confirmed I'm back up
and as you see i was thankful for this above 😄
i don't know the percentage of ppl. around, was thinking about: was this my wrong? let's restart the hass instance and see if it helps 😄
Did this maintenance have any connection to Z wave and Zigbee? This morning my alexa's are not communicating with any devices as well as my zigbee and zwave integrations are not working this morning.
It would affect Alexa communication, yes.
But beyond communication? The integrations themselves are not loading now
It is showing this now, but didnt have this problem yesterday
Retrying setup: [Errno 2] could not open port /dev/serial/by-id/usb-Silicon_Labs_HubZ_Smart_Home_Controller_C1300FC1-if01-port0: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: '/dev/serial/by-id/usb-Silicon_Labs_HubZ_Smart_Home_Controller_C1300FC1-if01-port0'
Oh, that's a local problem.
So I was able to figure it out! KINDA? I unplugged the Nortek stick and rebooted and then plugged it back in and rebooted and now they are working again.
just was a coincidence that it happened at the same time as this cloud issue
Well, I am testing this service and my 30 days are going to expire, I experienced almost 2 service down in this month, have I to be worried in case of subscription? I am using Alexa a lot for my automations, my old Alexa skill using AWS never goes down in 2 years..
An idea, could a cloud integration into HA with status and next maintenance date work?
Yep, that's one of the changes we'll be adding.
Ahh nice!!!
Hello, I installed HA on friends site, but they don't get private IP from their ISP. Will nabu-case work for remote access in this case - and is it a good solution ?
@gray lichen Not sure what you mean by private IP, do you mean a static IP? Nabu-case will work fine with a Dynamic IP. As long as nessesary out going traffic isn't blocked (Not actauly sure what that is but I would geuss Https on port 443), it should work fine.
Hello @gusty spire - yes i mean static IP. Thank for answer ! If I am correct, only https traffic will be allowed then, no chance of getting vpn add-on to work ?
Something like this is mentioned here : https://community.home-assistant.io/t/remote-access-to-home-network-via-nabu-casa-address-without-individual-public-ip/262738/11
@gray lichen Not sure what vpn add-on your are referring to. With out a static IP any thing that relies on traffic going out to the internet will be fine. Any thing that requires traffic inbound from the internet will not be possible unless you use a dynmic DNS service of some sort. With Nabu-case the HA server connects outboud to that service and then it handels the inbound traffic. I belive it only hanndels in comming https 443 traffic.
Nabu Casa
meh
Thanks
Folks, I am having problems with using the NabuCasa cloud tts announcements going through Google audios and Google Nest hubs. It plays fine using the demo in the browser, but if I pick a Google device for the tts target, I get a tone, but no announcement - the screen of the hub just hangs there saying "Playing Default Media Receiver".
I am running 2022.5.5, and this did work at one point, but not working now for some reason.
Is there something broken in the release or is there something wrong in my setup
nm. Figured this out - needed the Base_Url manually added to the configuration.yaml
Hey i started a trail to see if the cloud service is wurth it but when i try to connect using the url given by the cloud service it says "This page can not be displayed" i opend the port on my router and configerd in home assistant to use the cloud but nothing
and when i setup a script using the cloud it says i need to set it up
but it's already setup
@visual helm you don't need to open any ports
what do you mean by script using the cloud
i'm trying to use " Google Cast: Show lovelance view"
Can you reach your HA server using the URL?
nope it still says "page can not be displayed"
Is the remote control toggled on?
Yes
Home Assistant Cloud is connected and up and running did a TTS check and that works
could it be because i have 2FA on ?
No. You would see your login page, you log in, and then you'd get the 2FA prompt
wel the TTS part works

Can you sign out using the 3 dots in the upper right corner of your cloud page and then sign in again
oke sec
Don't care about cast. It isn't cloud specific. You don't need cloud to use it.
Were you using any other remote access config before Nabu Casa that you have a configuration for
oke logout/login compleet
i just used external url to connect
setup in my router/firewall/server to connect
that always worked fine
Are your Home Assistant URLs set to automatic at Settings > System > Network in your UI? You need advanced mode enabled for the user to see those
internet : home assistant cloud is active
wel the box is active
don't know how to say it in englisch sorry
also checked and set to automatic
try setting those to manual. use https://your_long_nabucasa URL for internet and http://your_local_ip:8123 for local
Then restart HA
ok check the remote control card again. Does it say "Your instance is available at..."?
yes it does
and still not working?
sorry for the confusion 🙂
after restart it popt up without a problem
yeah already pressed the button now it says "unknow error" 🤯
probbably because i have 2FA active
that gives me a lot of .....
hmm. shouldn't be an issue
You go to media in the panel, then choose a display from the lower right, then click dashboards, etc?
service: cast.show_lovelace_view
data:
entity_id: media_player.slaapkamer
dashboard_path: https://<my url>.ui.nabu.casa/lovelace-alarm/0
is what i'm trying
and how do i get the ui on my google nest ?
No I mean in a browser on another device
in browser the url works fine
Go to "media" in the left side panel
media check and then ?
then in the lower right corner, make sure a media player which has a display is selected
yes selected
Then you should see "dashboards" as an option
click there, and then one of your dashboards
let me check let me run to the bedroom
yeah, you should hear the ping and then it should display
wel here is what i did i i logd in with the external url clickt on the alarm tab copied the url and pased that in my automation
media_content_id: kitchen-dash
media_content_type: lovelace```
If you create an automation in the UI and the use "play media" as the action, then pick a display, then pick a dashboard, you can switch to yaml view and see the resulting yaml
okay
i selected play media
i selected the one in the bedroom
the one with the screen
but how to i "play" a dashboard
don't see that option
ah not the service
but you should be able to select any dashboard
but the action directly
yes
okay thought i had to call on a service
it's media, so you're "playing" the dashboard media to a display
as opposed to a song from spotify, for example
nope does not work
It's the same as doing what you did earlier within the UI and starting with the media panel
so it should work
the same
can't help you there
you can adjust what you see in the dashboard I guess
use button cards or something else
well thanks for your help 🙂 much apri 🙂
just one more question do
so i can only use this action if i have cloud active ?
no
then why did it promtet me to use the cloud 😐
where?
when i was making the action but hmmm i was using the wrong command i was calling on a service
If you create a new dashboard which consists of nothing but what you would like to see, it will still be small. But you can use something like individual button cards (those tend to be large if they are not used in a horizontal/vertical card), or maybe some custom cards. That's more of a #frontend-archived topic
thanks
You can probably finagle something close to what you would like to see, it will take some experimenting
hi, I’m logged into homeassistant.local and can control my insteon devices, but the HA app doesnt connect. When i go to HA cloud the remote control does not show a tab. It reads “Control is being prepared. We will notify you when it’s ready.”
could use some help. Thanks
@keen kite that needs to be ready before any remote access will work from any device
yhe problem is that the remote control isnt “ready”
no toggle bar
my naby casa account isnt connected and i can’t connect it.
….nabu..
Under HA cloud the following info:
Nabu casa acct isnt connected (worked before)
remote control says, “Remote control is being prepared. We will notify you when it’s ready.” It’s been saying this for two days now.
the HA apps are useless for me at this point.
@keen kite Start with a reboot of your host at Settings > System > Hardware in your UI, then when it comes back, Check Settings > System > Logs
sorry, what’s my host?
Go to Settings > System > Hardware
You see a card for the host system
On the latest version of HA, you reboot from the 3 dots in the upper right corner
on homeassistant.local?
That's the only access you have, right?
it works now. Thanks
is there an issue with the cloud service HA tells me "Connecting" under Cloud connection status. and i can't connect remotely through the web portal or mobile app. rebooted the whole host and still see the issue.
It should be fine now, there was a traffic burst which affected reconnections for the past 30 minutes. We’re still in the process of adding additional capacity handling and mitigation features to avoid these in the future as well as prioritize voice commands and remote access.
Hi, i have a Problem. When i try to connect to the Home Assistant Cloud i get an error: "Unable to reach the Home Assistant cloud." under the Tab Sytemhealth i can see: Zertifikatsserver erreichbar **timeout **Authentifizierungsserver erreichbar timeout
Home Assistant Cloud erreichbar ok
I have restartet homeassistant and the Router many times.
it was working fine until 2 days ago, nothing has changend on the network
Anyone know how to fix problems with disabling ipv6 to connect with cloud? Tried disabling manually, but get the message that disabling is not allowed. Tried open a ticket at Nabu, but was asked to go here...
Where are you trying to disable it
I guess in under config>system>network it didn't work for me also
@knotty bough I advised coming here to discord to look into why you get an error when changing networks settings
Yes. I'd love to get some help with that
Why disable it?
You replied to the wrong person, but also by default nothing will do solely IPv6, they will still have IPv4 support too
That seems vague, to answer that I need to know a lot more about your router setup and connection to ISP, see if you have by mistake or consciously configured your ISP to communicate over IPv6 and you disable that locally then while your DHCP Routing may be working over IPv4 your external connection to the internet will fail without IPv6 DHCP enabled for WAN
Noticed my bad
That is what I am saying, if they enable IPv6 externally sure it has IPv4 fallback but if they disable IPv4 in local DHCP routing then what is going to do? once IPv6 gets disabled it won't find it's way out of the local network hence my point they are saying something vague we need more information about the network topology.
A solely IPv6 internal network for the average consumer would be incredibly unlikely
I was going to try it but I was quick to realize how not convenient that would be as many devices would likely become legacy related at that point and I would have to tunnel it into the IPv6 Network.
At this stage there is no reason to go solely IPv6 unless security is your only motive and you are willing to deal with legacy device woes.
Alright, pôsted this in #integrations-archived already but the sent me here. I'm use home assistant with nabu casa cloud. And I'm trying to link it to google home. When I do that I get a message that the account is linked than after a while I also get a message that something went wrong.. And the intragation seems to have failed. I don't see anything in the logs. HJave searched internet , but so far havent found anything that helps...
Ok, I also sent a ticket via nabu case support and they suggested not exposing all devices, but only 1 by 1 , that worked!!
The Nabu Casa integration for Alexa has been very wonky for me here lately.
My 4th gen echo dot
- "Room isn't responding please check it's network & power supply" But it will complete the action after thinking for 15 - 30 seconds
My 3rd gen echo dot is completely fine besides it being slow
My 2nd gen echo 5 thinks my switches are lights and turns on the lights instead of the switch (I haven't changed anything with my setup & double checked everything was named & setup correctly)
But it sometimes just won't complete a task
I know last week there was a test build that went out.
After that was reverted it's just been really unresponsive
started seeing some of that as well lately, similar symptoms to the timeouts that were fixed by the relayer that was done in February, not saying its the same cause but same symptoms. not responding piece that is.
I'm trying to remove all devices using alexa.amazon.com and it doesn't want to
ah there they go. Just took a while
Note that we are doing a quick redeploy right now to alleviate some congestion issues being observed over the past hour.
All good
That issue for me has been happening for quite a while now (From last week)
Ah, that would not be related then, these congestion issues only occur around 7:30-9am PT.
Interesting
Is there anything you recommend I should try?
My network has been fine so I doubt it's that
I don't have any experience using Alexa, but if there's a way to determine the mapping or diagnose what Alexa thinks you have, vs. what Home-Assistant is exposing and how, that would be the place to look.
Alright I'll look into it after the redeploy
Redeploy has completed, it may take a few minutes for connections to be restored.
ty
Hello, I'm getting a Connection Closed: Closed by server. Error. Anyone know what might be causing this in Nabu Casa?
Yep, we have a redeploy which temporarily dropped the connections. They should be restored shortly.
ahh okay
thanks for the info, is there a space to check these sort of things?
didn't find anything on twitter, and maybe I'm just ignorant here (likely the case)
At the moment, here, this was an urgent redeploy due to a traffic saturation issue (similar to a DDoS) so I didn't have time to get one of the folks on our team to tweet about it. In the future we do expect to announce these simultaneously on twitter/discord/status-page.
cool! thanks for the info, you guys do great stuff
I'm getting an "Unable to connect: 504, message='Invalid response status', url=URL('wss://cloud.nabucasa.com/websocket')" - is this due to the redeploy issue or is it on my side?
I'm seeing that now as well
and I was getting an error before that was said was part of the redeploy
so I'm guessing it's related
Ok great. Glad it's not only me
Yep, waiting for the load-balancer to swap to the redeployed service now.
I think switching to a faster deploy system is also going on our to-do list. This is abysmally slow, sorry all for the delay on the redeploy.
Unable to connect: 404, message='Invalid response status', url=URL('wss://cloud.nabucasa.com/websocket')
Same here, I am glad its not just me
I am connected now 🙂
Ok, looks like the load-balancer finally swapped the new service in, connections are being restored.
confirm , status are now "connected" 👍
We don't expect any further redeploys to handle traffic congestion as this redeploy appears to be handling it correctly now.
I can also confirm it works. Great job team
My HA is still Not Connected for Remote Control :/
When I turn it off I get this in my logs:
2022-06-06 14:12:22 ERROR (MainThread) [hass_nabucasa.remote] Can't handle request-connection without backend

same when turning it on
A restart of the container fixed it, but that's not sustainable :/
@raven oracle posted a code wall, it is moved here --> https://hastebin.com/mijupukiwo
@raven oracle You choose which Home Assistant instance is associated with your Nabu Casa account. That isn't determined by the cloud service.
The account does not get "stuck" on one HA server.
You sign in on the cloud card, and it is linked. You sign out of the cloud (using the 3 dots in the upper right corner) and it is unlinked.
My previous account was still on trail cloud but I messed up the home-assistant vm, so I created a new vm, when I tried logging in for the first time I had this issue, so I though it might be due to the fact that my cloud is linked to another instance of home assistant, I then deleted that account and tried to create a new one but still had no success.
I never did an unlinking might this be the issue? and maybe it's detecting my IP already with trail?
Your HA servers do not care about what Nabu Casa account you have.
You should be signing in on your HA server with the user/password you created when you set it up.
Not your Nabu Casa account
No I think you miss understand, this is when i'm I try to link a cloud account inside my settings
Settings > Home Assistant Cloud > Sign In
I'm already logged into my home assistant
ok
So what do you see when you sign in to Home Assistant Cloud with your Nabu Casa account
the issue is with the communication to the cloud servers, that's where I get the 503 connection errors because of timeouts
hold on will create a screenrecording
The request URL is not our system, its your local system. Unless there's some misunderstanding about that. It looks like your container is unreachable?
No the reason was due to IPV6 being enabled, after disabling it in HA it worked.
That would definitely be a problem.
misconfigured ipv6 would be a problem. normally it should be ok.
Hi, I was helpfully redirected from #general-archived with my issue, hopefully someone could point me in the right way.
I'm really eager to integrate my HA with my Google Assistant, after messing around with the DIY way and having to deal with my Google Cloud Platform setup being intermittent, I figured I'd rather pay for "HA cloud".
After setting everything up inside Nabu Casa with payment/login related info, I'm having trouble with adding the Google Home integration.
It just seems to time out without an error message, here's one of my numerous attempts: https://youtu.be/8xTYJppJmMw
Hardware: Ubuntu Linux bare metal pyvenv instance runninga HA, port 8123 forwarded, Google pixel 6 phone as client.
What have I tried: Rebooting my phone numerous times and using LTE, to avoid my possibly restrictive home network from "poisoning" the DNS cache.
I'm a sysadmin by trade, so I'd be happy to do some in-depth troubleshooting, I've just no idea what to test my connectivity to.
@neat breach you don't need ports forwarded for the NC cloud services.
First check that your Home Assistant URLs at Settings > System > network are as expected or set to automatic. You need adv mode enabled for your user to see those.
Then go to the "manage entites" page for Google Assistant and use the "manage domain" link in the upper right to set everything to off (not exposed).
Then pick one entity from your page and expose it manually. Pick something relatively standard. A light for example. No diy or manual yaml entities.
Then try linking HA to GH again.
If that works, go back and expose one domain at a time, letting it sync, then confirming in the GH app each time
You don't need to click "sync devices". A sync will be triggered whenever you change which entites are exposed.
Thanks a bunch! I'll report my findings after I check everything mentioned.
@sharp jasper Thanks again! I managed to get it working by exposing just a few entities at first. Apparently ~200 was too much for it to parse during the pairing phase. And a good tip about forwarding port 8123, I can reduce my attack surface and still access HA remotely now.
@neat breach good to hear!
Can someone help me, please. I'm trying to remember what transpired when I set up Nabu Casa Remote Access. I seem to remember I had Let's Encrypt and DuckDNS already Added, but realized that Nabu Casa takes care of what I needed, so removed them before setting up Nabu Casa. I have DuckDNS Added, and it is working per the logs, but the subdomain and token in the Configuration I can't find in any account I have with DuckDNS. Was this done behind the scenes when I activated Nabu Casa initially? Is that why I can't find the domain under my other accounts? My remote access is working fine.
Also, there is some Let's Encrypt configuration in the Duck DNS configuration screen, but I don't have Let's Encrypt installed. Is that configuration placeholder?
@tiny wing you go to duckdns to find your duckdns domain, and that is what you enter in the addon config. It sounds like you are trying the reverse?
And why?
That's what I mean. I log into DuckDNS with the only OAuth account I have with it, and the URL used by DuckDNS in HA is not listed as one of my domains on my DuckDNS account. So, I figured that HA must have created it as I signed up for Nabu Casa. That's what I'm trying to figure out.
@tiny wing HA does not create duckdns domains
The addon does not create domains either
What do you want? You're trying to go back to using a DuckDNS domain? If so create one, and enter the information in the add-on config. The add-on already takes care of LE for you when you set "accept terms" to true
The DuckDNS AddOn Config lists a domain and token that doesn't appear in my DuckDNS account, and I don't know why? I use my GitHub OAuth to access DuckDNS.org. I thought maybe it was created by the Nabu Casa Integration when I set it up using an internal account (I assume like it does for Let's Encrypt, which I understand it uses, but which I don't have installed on my instance). Just a little confused about who's doing what here, and trying to sort it out.
Am I right in believing that Cloud Integration requires neither DuckDNS nor Let's Encrypt to be installed on the HA installation to work?
That's correct
Long time wonder: how come an area is activated in GA even when not explicitly configured in cloud: ? (Nabu Casa)
“Turn off library” turns off all entities in that area… could be a nice feature but only if explicitly configured
EDIT: I found on discord search that its not supported on Alexa 😦
Hey guys hoping this is the right spot. On Nabua Casa and trying to test and call tts.cloud_say, when i test it through my Echo's I get a default message saying to use Notify.alexa. I wanted to use the cloud version because it sounds better and i can switch the language. Anyone else getting that ?
@wooden umbra areas are pulled into GA as rooms
Yeah I figured as much, but they are automatically ’enabled’ ? Asking because it complicates naming entities 😉
I think if it's you have an entity exposed assigned to an area that doesn't already exist in the Google Home app's list of rooms, then it will be added as a room, but I'd have to check
How does it complicate naming?
I never include the area/room name in an entity's name
yeah, I have those indeed, freezer_kitchen, lamp_library etc etc. with over 60 lights it gets hard to not do that... thats what I meant with complicate. It would be nice if we could toggle that support for Areas/Rooms. just like the entities filter. Got to remember that eg Hue also creates rooms/zones, and with all of these namings, it's practically impossible to discern which is what. So not defaulting to include all Areas would be really important
I think the default should be to include the area as a room, as there's one place to manage things. So, if you have a freezer in the kitchen (I assume that's a switch?) then why not switch.freezer which is in the kitchen area/room?
because I also have one in the garage... HA shouldnt assume too much really. Sometime I get the feeling it isn't very well thought out for larger homes... I mean we all have more than one floor stander light. What manes should we give them other than the room they are in? Or shutters, I believe we all name them with the name of the room they belong to?
most of all, at least allow filtering on those Areas too, so we can make explicit what to include and what not.
@wooden umbra I guess I don't follow how this changes what Google does. A light is a light, so "light" or "lamp" isn't needed in the name. It's in a room, or it isn't, so the room isn't needed in the name.
Ok, so let me give this real life case as example: one has 4 studies with desks and all have a desk light, a standing light next to that desk and a lounge chair standing light. How on earth should I call those to have the system identify them individually, considering there also are 2 switches in each room, 1 next to the desk and one next to the lounge chair….
If I shouldn’t use the room nor the device in that name and I need to be able to turn them on/off individually
Perhaps this similar example could help. I have a master bedroom with 4 Hue lights in it, they're assigned to the Master Bedroom area. The two lights next to the bed are named Left Stand and Right Stand (based on looking at the bed), while the 2 lights farther away are named Left/Right floor (cause they're floor standing). If I want to turn just mine on, I can ask to turn on the right stand light in the master bedroom.
Google seems to interpret the names fuzzy enough that I can also ask to turn on the floor lights in the master bedroom, and it turns them both on.
If you have a study with desk lights, you will need to name the desks in some manner that is meaningful. Perhaps assign them numbers, etc.
thx. and that is exactly what I was trying to avoid, having to give them numbers, because that is so meaningless. complicating factor is that I have my Hue and tradfri (and Somfy) devices linked directly to Google, and not via HA. Hoping to only call scripts in Cloud, and some template entities created in HA obviously.
But, this digresses. The main thing is Cloud manages Areas by default and the user has no choice. The naming of the devices is much less of an issue probably. trying to follow humane thinking in this as much as possible. There's not much difference between 'light.bookcabinet_marius' and 'Book cabinet in Study Marius' 😉 except the latter is only useful in GH, while the former is also clear inHA without anything further
ever since turning to cloud tts, I now notice the /tts folder in the root has acquired almost 2000 mp3 files..... seems not really useful as all messages are unique and built at the moment of firing? can we not Not use hard disk writing anymore?
cache_false, like we could in the google_translate era:```
tts:
- platform: google_translate
service_name: google_say
base_url: !secret base_url
cache: false```
Thanks for the reminder. I clear out these when I remember. No idea why they can't be cleared up after use. There's no reason to retain them.
as a matter of fact, Ive managed to set the cache: false by using:```
tts:
- platform: google_translate
cache: false``` and since that is a global setting used for all tts platforms, it also is used for cloud. So no more mp3 files in the /tts folder now. Still this is really odd ofcourse, not being able to set this on the Nabucasa cloud TTS, hence: https://github.com/home-assistant/core/issues/73453
Hello, Got an odd issue with Google Assistant/Home, When using Tuya devices that are RGB with CW/WW/W i can change the shades of white but the moment i tell it to do anything in the RGB range, it will just change the shade of the white, it won't go into RGB mode unless i go into the Smart Life app set it to something that isn't white, then i can have Google change it to anything RGB but the moment i go back to white, it won't be able to go back to RGB colors.
It works fine if i do it from the dashboard in HA, it works with Alexa but not Google.
Anyone have any ideas how i can fix this? I've considered making another HA install to see if it does it on another install. But that is a LOT of starting over again.
Is there any way to connect the websocket API to your nabu casa cloud URL?
I have a custom panel that relies on the websocket API that works great with ws://homeassistant.local:8123/api/websocket
When it's accessed from http://homeassistant.local:8123/my-panel or localhost:3000 (note I do have http cors settings set:)
http:
cors_allowed_origins:
However, I just subscribed to nabu casa, and got my custom URL like: MY_CODE.ui.nabu.casa
And I tried to access it like this: ws://MY_CODE.ui.nabu.casa:8123/api/websocket but I just get a "status pending" on my websocket connection?
How can I connect to a websocket connection of the public URL? rather than the local one.
The custom URL you get requires you to connect to it first via web page load afaik, after which a websocket access should be allowed. I don't recall the exact scheme the mobile apps use, but they do hit it first separately so that the proxied connection is opened before the rest is setup. I believe @tranquil peak would know more about that.
@solid latch would be best, pretty sure that logic got rewritten since I last looked at it
I believe there's also an authentication header involved, for security reasons your home instance will not allow the internet at large to connect to your websocket. You'll need to login to get an auth token afaik. And I believe its 'wss' not 'ws', because you should be using TLS security for that remote URL.
you must send the access token in the websocket connection before you can use it. the frontend talks to the app to get the app's access token. no idea if other things in the frontend or in custom panels can do that.
is it using wss for TLS?
the frontend chooses what url to open for its websocket, presumably it is
Update on my experimentation to get Google Assistant working. I moved from Smart Life to the Tuya Smart app, I know no difference, made a new project in Tuya's IoT Developer console, setup the entire thing from scratch there, but still the same issue, If i tell google to make the bulbs white, then try go to go a color, it won't switch to the color, just change the shade of white.
If i do the exact same thing with Alexa, it works fine.
I decided to bypass Home Assistant and added Tuya Smart directly to Google Assistant and Google talking to the bulbs directly through Tuya worked fine..... idk what else to try, I'm setting up a secondary test install of Home Assistant on a Raspberry Pi to see if it's the install or not.
Also, the scenes, have never came through on Tuya devices.
test with a fresh install on a Raspberry Pi 4, Same thing.
I sorta resolved the issue by going around the issue, setup LocalTuya.
@ocean timber so the Tuya integration vs the Local Tuya custom integration?
Hi, I've got a device_type shutter entity. However I want to expose that to Google Home as type blind.
I do not want it as a blind inside HA. Is there any way to change the device type for GHome ? I found posts mentioning google_assistant_type: online, but that does not work for me.
Also Device_Type Door works as Door, but Device_Type Window is shown as Sensor inside GHome
Hi
I'm in need of some help, when i try to add HA to Google Home i get the error "The username or password you entered is invalid"
The issue is that I have dubbel and tripple checked and they are correct. They are working when i login on account.nabucasa.com without issue. Any advice on what i can try?
@fickle bobcat it's case sensitive. Make sure you are matching whatever it is that is working
Watch out for autocorrect
@sharp jasper you are a god! I was typing it exaktly like on the webpage since i was thinking that might be the issue, and there the first letter of the email was capital.
Seems like in google home it needs to be a lower case all the way for the email. Any how it worked now when i changed it to lower case. Huge thanks ❤️
The custom URL you get requires you to
Hello everyone
I hit my first wall today. my installation on a nUC went very well, installed duckdns and nginx all work like a charm. add mqtt for my zigbee, add a sensor and create my first automation : i was in paradise.
So i try to have my google home speaker tell me the sensor got activated. I try to install whitout nabucasa, fail with a 400 code error from google. still cannot understand why. So i join nabucasa, everyting seem ok, but my google speaker do not show as entities.
That where im stuck at. I cannot find the way to add my speaker as entities, but my google home apps see everything from home assistant.
Any idea would be welcome!
You don’t need nabu casa to play from a speaker. The speaker should be locally discovered using the google cast integration
Wich was my initial assumption. Yet. No discovery.
Do you know if there is either a force discovery I can do or manually add my speakers?
You can add the google cast integration and add the device that way
tanxs. that did the trick.
I am using Text-toSpeech but if i have a recordingof the message, i could just use cast.show_lovelace_view i guess. This is going to be fun!
I'm having a heck of a time configuring Google Assistant through Home Assistant Cloud. I have the Cloud account setup, and I can access the UI remotely using the provided public URL. I have the Google Assistant options enabled in the hass config. However, every time I attempt to configure Google Home via the 'works with google' extension from Google Home, it walks me through the steps, allows me to authenticate, asks me to "Allow Access", but then just comes back with: "Could not reach Home Assistant Cloud by Nabu Casa. Please Try again". Getting same response over last several days. Have no issues with any other 3rd party integrations. Any idea what could be the cause?
@feral condor try limiting what you are exposing in the "manage entities" page
Use the manage domains link in the upper right corner, set everything off, and then expose one light and leave the page. Then try connecting HA to GH.
That did the trick! Is it just a timeout issue due to the number of devices I have? Any way I can find more information myself on why the failure?
ah good. If you got everything you wanted exposed, it could be the number of devices all at once. Sometimes there is a specific entity Google doesn't like or otherwise causing an issue and you would see it fail to sync when exposing that entity.
Hello everyone, getting "could not reach home assistant by nabu casa. please try again" inside the google home app. Anyone facing this?
Will try what cogneto just said
I removed all my entity and i still get that error
@viscid shard you expose one entity, you don't remove all of them
You're sure it's the Google assistant card and not the Alexa card?
yep
Google Assistant is not activated
Before you can use Google Assistant, you need to activate the Home Assistant Cloud skill for Google Assistant in the Google Home app.
Activate the Home Assistant Cloud skill for Google Assistant
Configuration documentation
its probably that
@viscid shard you have to add HA to the Google Home app. That's when the first sync happens
yes this is where is get the could not connect error message
Check that your Home Assistant URLs are set at the Settings > System > Network page
You need advanced mode enabled for your user to see those
yes everything looks great there
I did a reboot incase
i can reach it also using the URL provided publicly
I sort of responding way to fast to try anything
inside the home app
Anyone know if the Nabu Casa cloud service is having problems? I can’t connect remotely, but i can reach other services remotely. So, it’s not my internet connection or my server. The HA status page say all is well, but something is definitely up.
I don't use remote access, but I do use the Google Home integration and that bit is working at least
it's almost never Nabu Casa
The only thing I can’t confirm is if my HA VM is running or not. That’s why I asked about the cloud service.
I’ll find out when I get home, I guess.
I have a light that is synced for Alexa control but Alexa just keeps saying she can't find a device or group named that in my profile. are there way to debug this sort of thing?
ahh! of course.. the Alexa app
Hello good people of the Cloud
when I login in my nabu casa subscription it say
"You are currently enrolled in the Home Assistant Cloud trial. Your trial will expire on July 18th, 2022."
But when I login in my HA, settings, Home Assistant Cloud, it says
"Remote control is being prepared. We will notify you when it's ready."
Did I missed something? I can't remote control it outside of the Lan
@charred lake you can't until it's ready, as it says
Have you tried rebooting the host at Settings > System > Hardware in your UI?
Today is the sixth day... In meanwhile is the trial running...
Will try today
It should take 5 minutes. What do you see at the Settings > System > System Health page
And also HA logs
Generic X86-64
Logs, only this, but they are my wrong passwords attempts
Full logs

dumb me, thats was only for core..
is there a way to export logs?
this is a huge ammount of text
Anyone know if the Nabu Casa cloud service is having problems? I can’t connect remotely. Error Message is: " Connection failed: No response from instance ". If i ask Alexa to switch something on i'll get "The Device is not answering...."
Everything looks fine on the cloud side.
@ruby sapphire the instance is your server. What do you see in the logs?
I also have problems with everything cloud related. E.g. the weather integration is not working.
I cant post screenshots here but system healths shows me:
Certificate Serverun reachable
Authentication Server unreachable
Version API unreachable
I see here that like 5 people asked if the cloud service is having problems. So it seems to have problems?!
The weird thing is that everything is working when connected to an oldschool ethernet cable but not to wifi. With wifi connection I checked it has internet access by using curl in the terminal addon
That definitely makes it sound like it has nothing to do with the cloud, and everything to do with your wifi.
@teal locust your network issues affect all integrations which need to reach beyond your local network. Nabu Casa cloud would only be one more.
And everyone comes into this channel asking if Nabu casa is having problems because that's their first instinct. It's wrong almost all of the time. The majority of issues begin with the user's server or their network
What issues could my wifi or wifi config have?
I was lucky that I even had a lan cable. I think i never used one since ages...
What do you mean by unstable? I never had any issues with unstable wifi
I disabled wifi and restarted and now I have the exact same problem with the wired connection: Everything dependent on the internet is not working 😦
E.g. if I click on add on store it is not loading
@teal locust this is not a Nabu casa cloud issue. #installation-archived is more appropriate
the only thing i found in the log related to the cloud is: " 2022-06-24 22:29:51 WARNING (MainThread) [hass_nabucasa.cloud_api] Fetched https://alexa-api.nabucasa.com/access_token (400) "
Where did you do the restart from
What do you see using ha network info
In the terminal for the VM or using the ssh addon web terminal
i see its connected
i can control every device from my home assistant app
the only thing that won't work is the cloud part
but all this worked 1-2 weeks ago wihout problems. i didn't changed anything
the only thing was ha updates
@ruby sapphire connected, but what are the details? Also, the details on your Settings > Cloud page. Is the date for your next charge in the future?
Are you able to sign out and back in to the cloud service without seeing any error?
Using the 3 dots in the upper right corner of the cloud page
the date is next month and login/logoff are no problem
connection details ? gateway is my router and the ip is a static ip within my lan
i solved it by myself
i deleted the ".cloud" folder, rebooted and now it's working again.
would be nice to have a button inside home assistant to reset the cloud
"resetting" deletes the certificate files and someone spamming such a button repeatedly can get rate limited by LetsEncrypt for too many requests within a short time.
But the same can happen when deleting the directory repeatedly, of course
Something would have to guard against that
yes you've right but to find out such a simple thing myself is not cool
I would have recommended it eventually. I was asking about other details first
i tested my connection before an did all the reboot and ping stuff before i asked for help
i work as sysadmin / helpdesk so i'm not a stupid beginner
now i know what i can do
anyway thanks for tryíng to help
✌️
Did you find the information about deleting the directory in the forums?
no, i thought it could be help to remove the acme certs, maybe something is wrong on the cert site
ok have to work now, thanks and bye
how does the cloud_say tts service work? I can't find any documentation on it. and it doesn;t seem to work with any of my media players.
Hi all,
I try to remote connect to HA.
I set up a openVPN on my synology nas and can connect to my local network and use internet.
Looks like everything is working except connecting to HA.
Error message: Deze pagina is niet bereikbaar. 192.xxx.xxx.xxx heeft de verbinding geweigerd. Controleerd de verbinding. ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED
I do not get a message in HA log.
Any idea's?
b.t.w. I'm using the local url in my browser
What is the English translation of that error?
This page is unavailable. 192.xxx.xxx.xxx has refused the connection. Check the connection
Are you accessing it with port 8123?
I have port 1194 open for the synology.
Do I also need to open port 8123 for HAS host?
No. As in when you go to access the website for HA through the vpn do you go to 192.whatever:8123?
Yes I do
you don't have to hide your local IP address. We all have them
Jokes on you my PC has a public IP
Hey I'm dealing with the same thing, have you found a solution?
Not yet, try yearly subscription it may work for longer before payment failure message come
I just got the "we are supporting annual payments on paypal" email, but when I go to the website to reconfigure my account to 12 month payments, I only get the credit card option. Am I just too early and need to wait for 1 August?
@quaint musk Correct, August.
Yeah I find the price increase to be quite steep actually, just joined to wonder if I'm the only one
No you are not, time to leave
I'd love to support the project but going from €4,70 to €7,50 is a jarring increase
So true and they are losing a lot of people
I just got the "Annual subscriptions for Home Assistant Cloud" email too and I am a bit puzzled by it. Paulus mentions that because I am in EU, they need to add VAT to the price. OK, fair enough, they need to follow the law. But what about the $5 to $6.50 price increase? There's no explanation or info about that. Or did I miss something?
That was in the email on January as we announced the increase: The price of the monthly plan for new subscribers will increase to $6.50 per month starting today (February 1, 2022). This is our first price increase since we launched Home Assistant Cloud more than three years ago. The price increase will be used to cover inflation and further building out Home Assistant, ESPHome and the open home. Any accounts subscribed prior to February 1 will not be affected by the price increase for 3 months.
OK, I see that email from February now, must have ignored it since it says "new subscribers" only. So I am still missing any announcement that it's gonna be increased for existing subscribers.
Btw I am OK with the price increase if it's needed for the team to continue improving HA. It's a great product! It's just the last email is confusing and should be better communicated IMHO.
Why is VAT suddenly being added? The email earlier today was a mess, barely makes sense & it jumps between points as if they're linked, but with zero explanation.
actually it currently is € 5,02 ... and will go to € 6.25 (annually) . Still more than 20% increase ofc.
Yeah it's going from 5€ to 7.5€...50% increase with no new feature...I think I'm gonna find the courage and setup everything manually, because that's a too big increase. I didn't mind paying because it rewarded devs, but 50% is way too much. And yeah, why is VAT suddenly added ?
If the price hasn’t gone up since it was introduced it’s not surprising. Everything is getting more expensive nowadays. Even the big players at things are increasing costs
But beauty is it’s only if you want to bother, don’t need to bother with nabu casa if you want to set it up yourself
I received an email yesterday for one of my subscriptions increasing by €2 annually, not 50%
I am using Nabu Casa for remote access, which works fine. But when I am at home and connected with my wifi, it still uses the internet connection and is ignoring the internal url. This happens even when my internet is down - I can't access home assistant anymore though sitting in my living room . Using a webbrowser I can access HA using the internal url. The setting in my app always shows Remote UI Url as connection.
As it is also slower using Nabu Casa than access directly, I want it to use the internal url when connected to my wifi. I reinstalled the app on the iPad and iPhone, same result. Any ideas please?
You'll get better support in #ios_and_mac-archived
will try, thanks
I've been getting lots of "There was a problem with the requested skill's response" errors when trying to use my custom Alexa apps via the Cloud URL. I've done some digging and the lambda function is getting this error:
MaxRetryError: HTTPSConnectionPool(host='myurl.ui.nabu.casa', port=443): Max retries exceeded with url: /api/alexa (Caused by SSLError(SSLEOFError(8, 'EOF occurred in violation of protocol (_ssl.c:1091)')))
Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions?
@thorn raft does your Nabu Casa URL work for accessing HA?
Can you share more information about these custom apps?
Yes - I can access everything using the Nabu Casa URL
I created them following the instructions here: https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/alexa.intent/
Basically convienience things - like "tell the house gary is going to bed" - and it runs a script to turn on bedroom lights, turn off TV's etc. With "the house" being the trigger word for the Alexa skill.
Is there an advantage to that compared to "Alexa I'm going to bed" and having that trigger an HA script or do these things directly?
It provides additional logic and feedback directly to the command. In my earlier example, it does different things based on who is going to bed. If "Jordyn" or "Brandon" are going to bed it does different things.
Another custom Alexa app allows me to control my zwave thermostat (change from heat to cool / set temperatures, check status etc).
"Big Brother" can be used to ask where family members are based on the mobile app location or announce when they arrive/depart zones
it looks like my certificate ran out yesterday, and hasnt been auto-renewed, and now i cant log-in from my phone. is there any way to force it to renew?
Are you self hosting or is this a nabu casa cert that’s expired?
Nabu casa cert
@visual nova try Settings > System > Hardware > 3 dots and click on reboot host
Not sure if cloud is the right spot for this. I signed up for a trial to attempt to get my Ubiquiti Cameras to come up on my amazon echos. When I say "Alexa, show me camername" It says camername doesnt support that
do people actually use this https://www.nabucasa.com/config/remote/ ? In my HA instance this is always on, and I have never realized we could/should turn it off/on on demand..
Could not should. I wouldn't myself.
yeah, just asking because I experience a lot of ip-bans lately, and when trying to load the nabucasa url, that was no allowed either... so then I noticed this in the docs
I'm struggling with an issue with Nabucasa that I am hoping someone can help me with.
I installed a new router to replace my old one and have everything fired up and running. My only issue now is that I cannot get HA to access the HA cloud. It sets on a Pi connected directly to the router via an ethernet cable. I have good access to it when on the local network, but when I try to connect nabucasa it spins and times out with "unknown error" or "unable to reach home assistant cloud."
Can anyone offer any ideas or support on this one to help me diagnose? Networking is my weakest area in my already limited knowledge.
@burnt agate does it have the same local IP address as before?
I don't know. I just changed the network connection to use a static IP again and used the IP address from the router admin page. I am now successfully connected. My only question is if/when my ISP changes my dynamically assigned IP, will that throw off the home assistant connection.
It should not
Well, I guess we will find out! Thanks for stopping by to help out. Hopefully this will remain stable.
The service doesn't care what external IP address you have. But you might have had a conflicting IP local address situation going on
not for me either
nope. Ive logged a support ticket, as my instance is working fine from my home URL
maybe that is what is happening in my config too.... #ios_and_mac-archived message
Because in the past you were paying through the US, and now you are paying in a local way, which means VAT has to be added.
I appreciate you are replying to Tannis, but as im getting the same issue. I was getting 403 Forbidden. now i just get connection failed. In the app i get failed to perform SSL handshake. Works fine locally, certificate is trusted and has a month or so left on it.
Didnt do anything, that just stopped saying that
Check for ip_bans.yaml file in your config directory
Will check that later, not at home atm. Have tried it from multiple IPs though, or could the ip ban ban the cloud?
The apps always complain about SSL. It's technically true because there's no connection, so no valid ssl
To really check the cert you do as you have done, or see if a browser complains about valid ssl
Yeah the browser is happy, but i checked the date on the cert (usually when i have a problem, my letsencrypt bot just didnt renew)
Yes you need to be careful with IP banning and the cloud, because you end up banning it all
I just use MFA and no IP banning config
could it be that having this in the config:```
tts:
only used to set cache: false on Cloud tts
- platform: google_translate
service_name: google_say
base_url: !secret base_url # == external_url
cache: false``` would cause 127.0.0.1 invalid login attempts? I mean, bwefore we needed to set the external url on this, but, since I dont use it at all, I havent set that
in retrospect, the login errors might have started to occur from the moment I added this setting
TTS uses an API endpoint that doesn't require authentication but instead has authentication in the URL
yes i wish i could show the message but i dont have perms
ERR_FAILED
dont have ip_bans myself
happens regardless of the IP i am connecting to
@timber cave what's the status on your remote control card in your HA ui
Connected
ok so I restarted HASS and it now magically works again
should have done it in the first place
do you want the log from before I did that
in case there's some bug with cloud and you're curious
"Please restart", and then "please reboot" need to be the first things I say
I kinda assumed that would be first
i really don't understand myself, I help people in the same manner, on discord, with another techy thing, and i know how this all goes, but my brain just turns off when it comes to me troubleshooting things myself for some reason
i think this must have been caused by HASS starting without internet connection
I'm unable to make tts.cloud_say work on my google home speakers
They boop and then say nothing
Using services. It doesn't work for the GH devices in /config/cloud/account either, it does however work in the browser player
any errors?
Hm, the only error I had was related to the google translate service (I fired that once to check)
I fixed that error and either this, or a second reboot, also fixed tts.cloud_say
I didn't expect the google_translate options to influence cloud_say
so its working now?
It is, but inexplicably so
why? if you are connected to Cloud, it should be working shouldnt it? It would be more of an issue if it didnt 😉
that is, if your Google Homes are installed and recognized correctly
I mean, yes! But if it inexplicably didn't work, how do I know it's not going to revert 🥲
Haha yes. It’s hard enough to find the cause for actual issues as it stands, let alone trying to predict a what-if scenario…. I guess you’ll know when it happens again and until then try and remember your changes so you can revert and test
@cursive fulcrum usually a boop and no message means you should check the internet/local urls
but maybe a reboot set that straight
maybe this is more of a docker/traefik question than anything else, but is my home assistant secure from outside the network if i get the lock in the web browser url bar?
it's more of a very generic web page question
that means that you're accessing your HA instance via SSL, which should be a prerequisite to exposing it to the outside world. Beyond that, you need a strong password, multi-factor authentication
ok nice, i mean i sort of don't know what im doing, im not a network pro by any means. strong password on the login makes sense, but is there a way within HA to do multifactor?
i do own yubikeys
yes
Yeah, this is what I remember from the Google translate setup too, I just expected cloud say to have that in order by itself
noticing a reproduceable behavior in Amazon connection. I have a switch, the switch is in the cloud and works in Amazon. Then I create a helper to change the switch to a fan (it creates a new 'device'). The ORIGINAL switch will go missing in Amazon even after synching entities and it still shows exposed but after you add the helper for the device, Amazon loses the original despite the cloud settings say it's exposed. Removing and immediately re-adding it to Amazon will make it appear again in Amazon. Do I need to report this as a bug? I feel like if adding a helper somehow removes the original in amazon while still showing it exposed is a bug. It happened on multiple devices is the only way I noticed.
@strange bronze you want to expose both the original and the altered entity?
Shouldn't you only choose to expose the fan?
I had no need to expose another entity to Alexa. I only added the helper to help with another automation that only works with fan type devices. Alexa was just the passthru for the original device which all of them broke when I did this
Its like the connection gets confused when you add another device of same name just with fan. at the beginning and removes it from the app
The original switch gets hidden
So I'm not sure what to expect when exposing it
I don't think changing the entity type just for an automation was something that was considered, but I may be wrong
You normally change the type because you want that type to behave like a light, fan, etc, so that when it is exposed, you can now say "turn off all the lights/fans"
I didn't realize the original was the one that was hidden. In that case, it makes sense. Let me look at something
yep, I confirmed that's exactly what's going on and that makes sense. Thank you
Hi, all! I have an issue regarding Home Assistant Cloud/Nabu Casa, namely migrating to the new annual subscription option; basically, I see no available option to do so.
Am I missing something?
@near lagoon, would greatly appreciate if you can point me in the right direction.
That guy responding now... is going to be your man 😄
Where in the world are you?
It will be available in August for EU, UK, and CA
@ruby sapphire
If you aren't in those areas then you should see it and it's possible that your location is not correct in the system
@sharp jasper I'm in Portugal: found it weird that the EU plans have been announced, PayPal has notified me of a price change, but no clear path available in the Nabu Casa portal.
PayPal notifies you of an upcoming change
Not an immediately available change
You also should have received an email July 1st
@sharp jasper Yeah, did not get that e-mail on July 1st (I've triple-checked), so the PayPal notification caught me kind of off-guard.
Notifying people ahead of time is normal
The email would have been addressed from Paulus at Nabu casa. Spam?
@sharp jasper Didn't find the e-mail anywhere, Spam included. But no worries; I'm clear on the issue now.
Anyway, starting in August, you'll have annual option, local currency option
Didn't do anything 😬 But you are welcome 😄
after a automated update to windows 11 I can no longer access dashboard with my cloud url. Everything in the VM window looks right at startup. What should I be looking at to get back online?
cant connect to ha via nabu casa ... anyone else have this issue
Working OK over here... Perhaps check your config when you're on your LAN?
thanks i guess thats all i can do . last thing i remember doing was updating the config.yaml file and attempted to restart ....
i am a newbie, i guess also i will need to take a vdu, keyboard and mouse with me ..... i use a pie 4 and the setup is for my mother who has memory problems at home 😦 still got the Alexa app going so can run routines and cameras
My manual Alexa integration started giving me troubles and I figured it was finally time to support the project so I signed up for Nabu Casa. Set up went super smooth and I had ALMOST all of my devices working with Alexa again in about five minutes.
I'm here to ask about the one that is not working. This device is a helper switch that controls my DIY garage door opener. I cannot seem to get this device to be recognized with the NC integration. Can someone tell me if helpers are unsupported or how I might go about getting access to this device. WAF is low as she uses this voice command daily. Heaven forbid she have to actual push the button to open/close! haha
Thought I was clever by adding a dashboard in HA with a panel iframe to an internally hosted page, so that I can access it externally.
Works great using HA locally, but when connecting externally (using cloudflared) I'm met with:
Unable to load iframes pointing at websites using http: if Home Assistant is served over https
Error makes sense - just wondering if there's an achievable way to get around this when the local page doesn't have an option for SSL?
Reverse proxy might be able to serve it as HTTPS for you
That would be using the NGINX add-on would it? I'm going to be out of my depth here I can tell!
Well depends how you want to do a reverse proxy. It’s up to you. Also depends what else you’re running at home
Rather than ask for a walkthrough, let me do some digging and research. Thank you.
Lookign like NGINX needs MariaDB which I found introduced instability on my 3B+ with SSD. I'll keep researching.
you're using this right? https://github.com/brenner-tobias/addon-cloudflared
https://youtu.be/xXAwT9N-7Hw?t=546 timestamped for how to expose another locally hosted site
yes, and this great video is where this journey started for me 🙂
That actually works wonderfully for accessing the site but the problem is the local site has no authentication on it so exposing it that way just leaves it open to the world
Thanks, have been reading that documentation. Looks like it fits the bill but I will need to go back to MariaDB as it's required.
I was getting 3 or 4 HA crashes a day when I last switched to MariaDB. not sure why, but it stopped as soon as I switched back.
definitely shouldnt be but you gotta start looking at logs to see what's going on
Suspect my pi 3B+ is reaching it's limits!
ya pi4 with ssd boot is pretty much the lowest i'll go
pretty sure mariadb should be faster than the built in sqlite or w/e they use
Yeah, I have SSD in the the 3+. Have a HA yellow on order so just making do until then
That's what I've read too
fyi if you ordered the cm4 from crowdsupply you might want to check the expected date
my yellow shows end of july and cm4 shows end of december lol
I was at end of decemeber - I only discovered HA 6 weeks ago so I'm at the back of the queue.
ha, I'll live. Plenty of automations to keep me entertained until I run out of scope with my hardware
if you want to beat the queue try to buy a pi with rpilocator.com
I've seen some have success with that. TBH the 3B+ is going OK once booted, it's just a little slow getting there.
I just don't use it for media or camera streaming etc.
they made improvements last release to make haos run even faster on old hardware i think
Yeah, that might have coincided with my crashes stopping too. MariaDB might have been unrelated.
I'll take a look at it - I think if it were causing issues then it would be pretty widely known
just do a full backup and download it off of the pi so if anything goes wrong you can restore back to now
btw if you need a quick upgrade or w/e you might want to look into used thin clients on ebay etc
for like $30 you can get a machine way better than a pi4 with emmc storage and all
Have considered that but I'm space constrained and need something that is low power and discreet.
This has moved more into a #general-archived topic
Yep we've gone OT - will wrap here.
No problem. I listen for pings on this channel to help with Nabu casa cloud issues so I've been hearing more than usual 😄
