@spare canyon @merry inlet @sage kayak As an alternative to being understood. Say if I forget a past conjugation of a verb. Instead of guessing the conjugation in the moment, I temporarily use an easily understood, but incorrect conjugation to get the sentence completed.

Example

Ich kaufe gelb Kartoffeln im Essen Laden.

The correct version is

Ich gekaufte gelb Kartoffeln im Essen Laden.

If I have a choice of being grammatically incorrect and understood. I want to be understood. Language Learning is a humbling process.

There will always be ambiguities if you do it like that and for many of them it will be possible to construct situations will lead to misunderstanding that would be prevented by speaking with the right grammar

You could try to make a science out of it and find exactly which grammatical mistakes won't lead to misunderstandings in certain situations or whatever, but I doubt that this will be quicker than just learning the language correctly

It might not be easily understood, because you depart from the typical, expected construction or means of expressing something, and the listener then has to deliberately think over what you are trying to tell them. It's not a big deal if you use a wrong but similar word, like I called someone abenteuerlich instead of abenteuerlustig by accident, but they could still deduce what I meant. That's not so easy with grammar, because breaking the expected pattern leads to greater ambiguity, like if you simply said I buying fish, then I don't know if you are buying fish right now or you were buying fish in the past.

I did the same with English and I was able to figure out the majority of my phone in English when I was learning English for 4 years. So yes, understanding 80% after half a year is great progress

And a small correction: You can't translate "J'ai 15 ans" 1:1. We don't use the verb "haben" when talking about our age, we use "sein".
The right sentence would be: "Ich bin 15 Jahre alt" => "I am 15 years old"
