In my psychology class, one of the people is doing the music class i took last semester so we were talking about Erlkönig and Goethe
Then when i got lunch, the server asked me what i was planning for the weekend and i said i was going to do some more german learning stuff and so then he told me he is learning yiddish and he told me to tell him interesting stuff about german the next time i see him

Duolingo

Duolingo is a decent resource to start with if you're a complete beginner, but it's neither efficient nor comprehensive!

What Duolingo will teach you about grammar is very limited, and none of the systems they use will help you practise much of it.
You can learn some vocabulary with it, but their method (based on the concept of spaced repetition) doesn't work for everybody, and the way Duolingo teaches is not very effective compared to the amount of time it requires from you.

So, if you find it useful, by all means keep using it, but remember not to fall for its gamification of language learning, and move past it when it stops being beneficial. Ignore the streaks.

In any case, keep in mind that Duolingo is not enough to learn a language, ever.

Yeah, I still use Duolingo even though much less than in the beginning. As Herr Leibniz said, it isn’t enough. #resources has a lot of great compliments to Duolingo when you’re ready.

There is, I believe, a good way to use them without them hindering your learning. In the beginning, I would personally use them when I needed to read what people were saying, provided I had first tried to understand myself, but had not managed. When it came to speaking myself, I would try to create my own sentences, by looking up words in the dictionary, and only when it felt impossible would I use a translator. Of course, the degree of difficulty will feel progressively less extreme the more sentences you yourself make.

Because I would look up the words myself, it was a slow process, but it worked, I reckon. People were kind enough to provide feedback, which made sense only because I had myself made the sentences. There's a lovely channel here called #beginner-german and mistakes are always encouraged :3 ❤️ I hope I see you there :3

Abstraction and abstract thinking are different things.

Abstraction means that you break down an idea into its basic parts, so that it doesn't rely on a specific or real world example. Instead, you look at the patterns, structures, ideas, etc.

Abstract thinking is the ability to understand things which aren't represented directly by real world concepts.

that's one possible abstraction, since you take only the details you need (the box's dimension) and throw away the unnecessary stuff (the material it's made of, its contents, how it looks etc.) and then work with that model.
An example of an abstraction that everyone is familiar with are numbers.
When you talk about a given number, say the number 5, you aren't talking about 5 of a given thing, but rather the abstraction 5. You could think as the number 5 as the quality that's common to all things with that quantity. 5 apples, 5 oranges, 5 stars, 5 minutes etc., except you throw away all the rest

My advice on this regard is to focus on sentences connected by basic conjunctions first so that you get used to stuff like inversion. When it is too complicated, just cut the sentences with a full stop. I won't sound as pretty, but it won't be wrong and just ask in chat, after you make sure the sentence is understood, how you could rephrase it or how you could combine them. :3

The main thing about these puzzles is, that with enough time, anyone can solve most of the puzzles. To reach 2400 in puzzles you do not need to do all puzzles correct, just repeat them till you get enough right.

They wrote one of the most well-known introductions to clinical psychology. It's a tremendously reliable compendium. You could probably start there before branching out to specifics. Especially if you haven't formally trained in Psychology, it would be a good idea to have a solid general understanding before you read on. It would give you a better scope of reference, so you'd know what to take with a grain of salt.

If you define it as a method of assessing your own behaviour, yes, of course. If you define it as some form of self-therapy that could be done by any person that took up a book, absolutely not.

It is something that a trained psychologist could easily do, provided they were able to be fully impartial.

Theoretically you can always observe your own behaviour, but to be able to break it down systematically is something that would be beyond the realm of possibility, I'd say.

Well, simply put, they are the starting point of any research. They define the methods that are used to explore a topic. In the past, people believed that, for example, Positivism was the standard because it was 100% objective; however, that is impossible since all research is inevitably tainted by the researcher's own cognition, even if your method is purely numerical. So much so that the paradigm was rephrased as post-positivism. With Psychology it is the same.

Not one person can ever escape their own cognition, but as a psychologist you are asked to be made aware of them and understand why they are there, so you can better help your patient, if you want to be a clinical psychologist and do therapy.

A psychologist could come close to that. I believe it is something that we all do; however, I would say it'd be impossible for a normal person to do it. Usually the average person reads self-help books with a lot of overly-simplified psychology that are no better than social media fallacies.

Probably a cognitive linguist could also do it, but they are basically mythological creatures.

I am sure it will all make more sense once you read an introduction to psychology. There's too much to it for a person to just sit down, without any training, and try to deconstruct their own self. It'd be easier to try and do it with somebody else.
