like basically the only plugins that can be helpful for vrchat is stuff that manipulates Data before before you hit the published button anything that requires runtime scripting isn't going to work
like there are some tools that generate some Tail Wag animations that are that you could use because it spits out a animation clip not dynamically create a tail animation

Trying to make a certain type of swing for my dynamic bone, except all I've been able to do is make the force make it instantly fall.

Is dynamic bones becoming huge when saveing a FBX just a thing everyone has to deal with? Is there a way to avoid it?
whenever I get a fbx from someone else, and edit in in blender, dynamic bones always end up 100x too big, i have to divide all their radius, height, and offsets by 100. it's a pain.

set scale to fbx all on the export screen or export with cats' export button, it will use the right settings
default export settings cause your armature to have a scale of 100
that's why everything is 100x big

If you can't say the name here it's because the content on that site is known for leaked/stolen content so why even mention finding it?
I suppose you could use some of the assets on the website but you'd have to proceed with caution of course. I do believe most of the content is original but it's hard to say for certain
Question, is it possible to have a mimic avatar? (Like an exact copy of your model that mimics your movements but in reverse.) That moves around with your default model? Kinda like a moving shadow.
anywhere that allows user uploads puts itself at risk of harboring stolen/leaked content, so literally any website would meet that criteria. It's a good starting point for a beginner is all and ik that there is content put there by creators specifically to be free assets for beginners

So that when you reupload it later it uploads into the same slot so you don't upload multiple versions. At least that's what I think since that's what happens.

I'm trash with terminology but basically the ID is linked to the avatar files in a way. So when you select the model to change into it, VrChat will know which file to send to you based off that ID and you change into the correct model. This happens for everyone so it's all the same for every user in the world. Now, the ID can represent a variety of model files including PC, Quest and Fallbacks.
As stated, you can replace that file(s) by uploading to it again. That ID is linked to your account and only your account so if another player tries to upload with the same ID it won't work.
Unity is saying something about spine length being 0cm when I go to configure and see the bones in my avatar. Is that going to be an issue?

I've been seeing a lot of creators pushing for not only original models/textures but optimised versions if not already optimised from the get go.
Though old models from creators that don't play or don't care will always be around.
Man, creating characters for the purpose of porting them to Unity has sure made me realize that you are god dam limited if you want them to work properly in VRChat or any game engine out there.

In a very few avatars that are uploaded to vrchat some of them would have this toggle called ālocomotionā when you click on it you have a few selective options to toggle,

you cannot use any scripting on avatars
but you might be able to set that stuff up with animations
tiling / offset can be changed on the material so you can use that

If you want to use feet, spawn an empty, scale it to 0.3048 on all three axis. Any object placed inside of it will have its scale values in feet instead

All you need to make and import avatars to VRChat is unity and the vrchat sdk (2)
If you know how to use unity already, it's super simple to import the sdk to unity and then upload your avatar to VRchat

Unity is not a 3D modeling application - there are plugins to try and add modeling tools, but it is not what it was made for. You will have a much better experience (and develop actual real-world skills, and have far more help online) by using a proper 3D modeling program.

Yup. Stretching a bone is a tad more optimized, but yes a blend would be visually the same

Unity animations are effectively just editor macros
Anything that can be edited or tweeked can be an animation. Itās not just bone rotations

It auto updates, and people not keeping their version of blender up-to-date is a common issue :p

well, it would work if you exported dynamic bones with it, but that breaks dynamic bone's terms of service

Not unless you include it which isnāt allowed. But you are free to blank out the script if you know how before distributing it - only the parameter definitions and script/component names are needed, and those can be distributed. VRChat will put in the legit copies of the missing code.
technically owning dynamic bone isnāt needed to use it in VRChat - itās bought for the convenience of previewing it in the editor before upload

Unity itself isn't that hard to pick up but there's limited customizability if you're not also learning blender

I wouldn't recommend looking at general unity tutorials as vrchat uses a limited set of features from it so there's other ways to do stuff sometimes. I'd lookup vrchat tutorials specifically

I'm making my first self-modeled avatar, and when I try to publish it for quest, it says Avatar using unsupported shader 'Standard'. You can only use the shaders provided in 'VRChat/Mobile' for Quest avatars.

well ya and changing their guids/generating new ones so this works with multiple avatars
setup humanoid normally with a "main" pair of arms, then add rotation constraints to each bone of the second set of arms that inherit rotation from the corresponding bone of the main pair of arms.

You must obtain at least "New User" Trust Rank in our Trust and Safety system in order to upload content. You can get this by just spending a few hours in VRChat, hop some worlds, and make some friends. Give it some time and you'll be able to upload content in no time.
As an aside, you must have a VRChat account to upload content. That means you can't use a Steam account, Oculus account, or Viveport account to upload content like worlds or avatars.

It's a blank script. It is used to flag an avatar as a test asset. This script is automatically applied to an avatar when you click "Build & Test"

Is there any general consensus or agreed upon standard for correlating expressions to gestures (like happy on thumbs up, annoyed on point, surprised on open, etc.) or is it just a free-for-all depending on the avatar author's preference? not everyone follows the same scheme, so come up with something that you feel is right and go with it

What i use mostly > Left-hand for any transforms like tail/ears/wing/whatever that flail around if i use any of them, Right-hand for face stuff ,if they dont have transforms i use left to change eye/brows and mouthstuff on right
Oh yeah, I definitely see the value of splitting expressions up so that you can mix and match a bunch of permutations - but I also like the idea of the offhand as an "amplifier", so that you can trigger more subtle one-handed expressions in casual conversation but still have access to their more "intense" versions by intentionally matching gestures. Seems like it would help alleviate the face-spasm effect for me, since I talk with my hands a lot, haha.

Likely old, dont remember seeing a update for it , not sure if they are going to test it or not (open beta to see if it actually do anything would require a big crowd or heavy dynbone avatars tho)
it's honestly not that hard to test with just one person; all you need is a bunch of chains duplicated on a single avatar and then add in some collision and you can tank your fps all alone

Variables have been renamed, i.e: Root (transform) > Roots (transform[]). This means that this variable will lose its value due to the mismatch in variable declaration.
Multithreading: I don't have enough knowledge in this area but VRChat likely has its own multithreading system, and anything else attempting to integrate its own multithreading alongside it will likely cause issues and use up wanted resources

I think what would have to happen is ye need a bunch of 2d geometry for the eye, mouth, and maybe nose stuff, and then assign blendshapes when each one is out of the face and maybe that might kinda work

speaking of that i ran a test of performance with using the built in blocker and not using it. using the avatar blocker gave me 120 fps in the black cat with about 16 people in the world. disabling the blocker made my performance dip to 90 fps (so 25% less performance without auto blocking). mind you this is on a GTX 1070 Ti at 1080p desktop mode

Bad thermal management with specific brands of GPU, it was not necessarily the fault of the game. But as was said, there isn't really going to be any way to fry a GPU unless it's on its last leg and barely holding together, with someone causing it to run full tilt finally pushing it over. Like it being filled with dust and not venting heat like it was designed to
you heard about the case of New World? from what I remember the GPUs were overloading and somehow tried to make the fans spin far faster than capable off and they drew so much power to try and spin the fans faster that they eventually popped

Hey y'all for a beginner is it better to make a model from scratch or use something like VRRoid?
VRoid certainly get you a usable Avatar a heck of a lot quicker as there's a lot of stuff you have to learn to make a completely functional avatar from scratch
and then you could like try learning the modeling stuff making like a prop for the Avatar that way you don't have to jump straight into the deep end
it can be a lot of work to create an avatar from scratch in blender. especially if you're new to blender as well (don't know if you have experience in it or not). but there's also stuff to set up on the unity end. so it would definitely be an idea to get a model and learn how to set it up in unity and maybe learn how to add features to it before trying to create and setup a custom model. it's a lot of work at once. better to cut it out into smaller steps

yea that sounds like a good idea. familiarize yourself with unity and then later move on to making your own custom models. there can also be a lot of optimization work when it comes to making a custom model. so it's a good idea to learn about these limitations so they won't come as a surprise when making your first avatar model
and also handy to have a topology reference with the VRoid on like how do you make faces or hands
How customizable is VRoid? I haven't really used it, kinda thought of it as simple slider, premade template stuff, but haven't given it a fair shot
it has a texture editor on it so you can customize clothing quite a bit and the hair system is very flexible like for a while people was making animal ears and tail and even glasses with the hair system

Hello, does anyone know if there is a way to save the camera settings when publishing an avatar? The preview is tiny and I might not notice something before uploading, but then there is no way to set the camera to exactly how it was before. The picture needs to be taken again if there are changes to the model too.
The Main camera is preserved, but I don't see a way to use it for the avatar image.

Other means you clicked "Build & Test" in the SDK when building it. A test avatar can only be worn by you, and nobody else can see you in it. It is meant for testing only

@royal shadow so, my main is a mutey, and I'm using rabidcrab's vrchat speech-to-text to communicate, which takes up around 75 parameters just right of the bat; throw in clothes, items, and I ran out of bits š¦
so now I have to use 2 avis, one for communicating, one for dancing
What I do for mine is just create three 1D blend tree layers for each of the animatable fields (r, g, b) on the standard shader's albedo or emissive color property. A radial menu uses a float parameter to vary between 0 and 1 valued motion field animations. If you instead wanted a single hue shift control, you could probably just make an animation for several key colors in a ROYGBIV ordered pattern and blend between those instead. I like the fine-tuned control of RGB, but I'll try that out and see if it works.

You combine skinned meshes by joining them in blender (or any other 3d software like Maya)
You combine materials by manually merging them or atlasing them with the Material Combiner addon (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yeajVMtpVb0)
The error message tells you that you havent set up the Rig of the fbx file of your avatar up yet. It should be set to humanoid. (Should look like in the screenshot)

Whwn I play vrchat, I'm generally on my quest sitting, and have my avatar in sitting mode so they stand up fully. And vi wanted to crouch, I would move to standing mode. So they would crouch.
But since the recent updates, that noblonger works and I can't "crouch" while sitting anymore.
Is that vause vrchat changes avatar versions and I'm no longer compatible?

oftentimes if you get random dms about people offering to make ye an avatar they are scam artists
it's unfortunate since there r alot of legit 3d artists

be careful who you give your money to and make sure they have a good portfolio and/or are verified in the discord i sent ye

i've been on vrchat for a while now
and when i was like 15 or so i knew i would see some nsfw stuff so i turned off the option to see other peoples avatars unless i wanted to
but i cant figure out how to turn it off lol
everytime i want to see somebodies avatar, i have to go into the menu, click on them, and allow it
but its annoying to do that cause it takes pretty long
is there a way you guys could help?
Check your safety setting instead, clicking 'show' on people is not something id recommend they will always be visible unless you remove that
the default settings are set to only show avatars with Medium performance ranking and if they take up less than 20 MB or so. I believe in order to see most avatars you'd have to set it down to Poor or maybe even Very Poor and around 50-80 MB. but of course this will make you loose performance and most likely drop your fps somewhat. depending on the lobby, avatars and how many are in that lobby

If you're going from blender to unity, the most common reason is you have unapplied modifiers in blender.

vrchat is working on a replacement for Dynamic Bones called physics bones but who knows when it's actually going to come out

Hey, trying to figure out how to upload an avatar here, does anyone know any other solutions to the SDK not showing anything but the clear cache option?
I had bought and retextured an premade avatar and all I wanna do now is just upload
check the console and fix the errors. ctrl+shift+c should bring it up if you can't find it. You need to be using Unity 2019.4.31 for the current release of the SDK, your avatar might have included scripts or a version of the SDK that doesn't work in whichever version of Unity you are using.

What version of Unity did you create this project with, that version of that package does not exist for Unity 2019.4.31, so it leads me to believe you created it with Unity 2020 or 2021, which also means, you would need to make a new project with Unity 2019. You can fix all of those type of errors, but it is not worth the time

Yes, use 2019 as the target for a new project, should be using Unity Hub, which makes that easy
So I was looking online and something I saw was people talking about others stealing avatars, now I am hesitant to commission an avatar because if I spend hundreds only for it to get stolen and sold somewhere online I would be devastated, should I still buy a custom avatar? š
I would, you cant steal an avatar unless they have the force clone avatar thing, and it's only on PC and it's rare to find someone with it. I've only encountered 1 or 2 out of my entire time playing VRchat
Just make sure avatar cloning is off and private the avatar

To me that feels like a big question with a lot of personal philosophy behind how the answer shakes out for you.
Having an avatar that you really vibe with, commissioned or otherwise... That can feel pretty dang good. Especially if it makes you feel like yourself in ways you may not feel outside of VR.
And if you pay for something that you make a concept for yourself to embody you... it'll be tough for a thief to wear it the way you do
Honestly seeing your points i agree, I made an avatar in vroid, its very basic but I really like it feels like a good way of expressing myself, I guess if I ever commission an avatar ill probably feel the same way about it aswell
Honestly what I might do to avoid the likelyhood someone stealing my avatar is in public worlds wear a lesser detailed not as high quality avatar and in private worlds at parties etc wear my really nice avatar

the uploading bar is moving, but INSANELY slow
yeah, my current upload to VRC is about 10-20KBps

oh well, whatever it was it seems to have fixed itself, my avatar uploads are working normally again
Typically avatar stealers just steal to steal. They don't wear you avatar or anything

so MMD hair would refer to a hair that is intended for use in that software

The avatars were errored, it said I had 4/25 favourited but they were deleted on the homepage, I just got myself some new ones :P

which setting should I use if I want to test dynamic bones in play mode? Right now I can't drag my avatar in play mode.
You switched back to scene view after hitting play and selected the avatar object in the hierarchy, right?
You can't interact with the move or rotate tools in the Game tab, you have to do it from the Scene tab - but you can still get to it while play mode is active.
