the reason they were removed in the first place was due to them NOT working well, they're very heavy performance wise not to mention most avatars that had audio were basically crashers with how often it was killing headsets

the good news is that they will eventually come back since meta loves dropping support for their standalone headsets in place of a newer one (though based off the issues quest 3 currently have it'll have to be with the quest 4 or 5 )

id imagine they'd upgrade it by then to be at the minimum for vrchat's requirements on bring back stuff like that

avatars effect the QOL when playing the game overall, for some users it wont be the thing that lags or crashes them because they dont show any avatars to begin with but most would rather be able to see the models they're talking to/looking at then gray bots even 10 very poor avatars turned on can be alot more laggy then an unoptimized world (not to mention most users stick to optimized worlds to begin with)

A few weeks ago, I was using my quest 2 headset just fine there was no problem at all. I just plugged it in a few minutes ago to charge because it was fully dead and it tells me that it's charging.. but then it turns on and I get the little meta symbol spinning around then it will automatically turn off/die again and repeat the same thing over and over, does anyone know how I can fix this?? I even try to factory reset my headset because I don't have the time to even factory reset it because of how fast it turns off. and I know for sure it's not my charger that's the problem :(

The pc and Quest avatars are always technically separate. What bonds them together is the blueprint ID.

It depends. If you're barely off the recommended requirements, you might be fine. If you're majorly off, it'll run poorly for sure. You may want to drop your specs for the people who are more intelligent about VR specs (not me).
Your PC may run slightly hotter, but if you have good airflow you should be fine. You can check your PC's temp in task manager typically if it's a big concern.

I just got my quest 3. I'm trying to play pcvr and i also have a link cable from cable creation. The quest app on my laptop (Asus tuf gaming with nvidia 1650 Ti) detects the quest. When I enable quest link it goes into the interface, but when I click desktop there is a complete black screen. The cursor works i even clicked some apps and they opened on my laptop. But I can't see anything because of the black screen. I have restarted, used task manager to close the oculus app, updated geforce, disabled my antivirus, changed the graphic card preference but it still does not work. Does anybody know what to do? Is there a fix without using virtual desktop

You are likely running into a compatability issue. Your only options as a litmus test is to either Use Steam Link (Free in quest store) or virtual desktop. See below for reccomended specs for Meta Link PCVR:

Virtual Desktop and SteamLink replace Airlink.

(There is no way to do hand tracking on the PCVR version of VRChat wired using Link atm, wireless with Airlink doesn't work either)

Virtual Desktop has a streamer client that runs entirely in the background that you have few reasons to touch after setting up, it connects directly with SteamVR.

SteamLink is made by Steam, it doesn't need any extra software and is integrated directly into SteamVR.

Both have similar performance (better than Link and Airlink), since they both use SteamVR directly, Steamlink is free, but Virtual Desktop is more feature rich and refined.

To do hand tracking on Steam Link tou currently need to use the beta Steam client, beta SteamVR client and I think beta Steamlink client, each one needing to be set to the beta branch individually.

Hey I have quest 3 and I will be getting the forth tracker but after some research i found out the only place for the tracker is on top of the headset and there is where the heat is coming out so I wonder if that is going to effect the headset any ideas ?

So I don’t know if this is a me issue or what it is or if there is a fix to it but I use a meta quest 2 and link cable for PCVR I load steam and VRC perfectly fine but after I wanna say 15mins of playing when I click the flat button on the left controller and pops up the task bar to see your monitors etc it starts lagging and shaking till the point I crash like I can’t tell if I’m losing tracking cause there isn’t a notification saying so idk if it’s just delay and it’s trying to catch back up… I could say it’s like equivalent to when you’re sitting in VRC and someone is shooting a particle directly into your face and it shakes the screen and you see a black border dragging across the screen idk does anyone else have this issue? Could be pc overloaded but I’ve checked and it doesn’t seem to be 😭

They only lowered the max size and uncompressed size for PC avatars, that is what takes affect on the 1st of Nov, as far as I remember nothing is changing for android avatars.

Anyone having an issue when using FBT that opening the Quest’s menu causes ether your game to crash or you game will run but you cannot move, open menus, etc. Like i can wave my arms around and move my head but everything else locks up. Just looking to see how I would go about fixing this issue.
