Because after looking at what I'd need to spend to upgrade, I'm kind of questioning a bit the sanity of all of that. I mean... I basically have to build a new pc for the most part. For some time now ive been considering buying a VR headset and after some research ive seen that many people recommend buying a Meta Quest 2. I want to get more info abt it from people who already have some experience with it. Would yall recommend it?
Also, what full body tracking devices should i buy for it to be compatible with the headset?

As someone who uses a quest 2 it is a decent headset with all sorts of different games. But specifically vrchat can be pretty buggy on it, if you have it hooked up to a PC it isn’t as bad but recently quest 2 has had problems with not loading the game itself or you’ll get kicked out of worlds or won’t be able to load into worlds because of “low memory” which currently there isn’t a fix for

But with all sorts of other games it runs pretty well

Slime will be good, don’t go in expecting Vive or Tundra tracker quality, but slime does work well, only real downside is you need to recalibrate every once and a while cause they are prone to drift over time. But they do have some benefits that Vive and Tundra trackers don’t, they can’t really “lose tracking” as they don’t use base stations and obviously they are FAR cheaper whether or not you would need to buy base stations

For cutout, you can use mobile/particles/ shaders. This is how blush is often done.
Create a new material that that uses the blush texture alone, and make it one of these shaders.

It is suspended indefinitely, but to not break every world using it, the website is staying up, but only working on PC. (Because practically no processing has to be done if it just redirects you to the youtube video, instead of doing the resolvery parts)

Has anyone else been having issues with VRChat regarding system memory? I keep getting sent back to my home world because apparently my "system has run out of memory" even though it hasn't. I even sometimes get kicked out of the entire game and sent back to my Oculus home followed by a "Not enough memory to run VRChat" message.

People have mentioned that here, hard to see any solid pattern to it since it doesn't affect everyone, but could be choice of avatar, world or something dumb like Meta's rolling updates (Quest headsets on same update probably won't have all the same features enabled).

And just in case, since it is a very common misconception, system memory means RAM, not storage, only way to tell amount of RAM used is through a developer app.

You know, I had this idea. Sony has released the Sony Mocopi body trackers that can work natively on the Quest 2. Using that in conjunction with hand tracking, I wonder if it would improve performance when it comes to movement?

Honestly the main issue is how people don’t optimize avatars, and depending on worlds going into the menu is terrible.

Most of the time I get memory issues only because people spam switching avatars. Which eats a ton of ram for quest.

Another issue is loading pictures, hearing voices, loading avatars, and depending on worlds the player count. (also worlds in general)

Only way to slightly avoid this issue is to not go into your menu, avoid showing avatars, but if you must show avatars make sure to not show people who switch avatars every min.

You most likely wont have much issues then.

Also enable the setting that makes it so avatars stop showing the avatar after certain amount of distance. So dang helpful for sure.

Oh and earmuffs, believe it not it’s helpful when you are near 30 other people. But that’s in general lol

The memory on your headset isn’t the storage it’s like the RAM of the headset. There isn’t much of a fix but if you go to ur vrc menu go to settings and go to debug and clear local cache it can help

I have had it for a year and been using it with virtual desktop and love it.
this week if i remove my headset to do whatever and put it back on one of my lens/screens (usually the left eye) becomes blurry when it wasnt before.

Hello, I've noticed my world's textures appears brighter/more saturated on Quest that it is on PC with no change to the materials. Is this a know behaviour and is there a fix? I have a light pink floor that becomes NEON pink on Quest...

Could it be something with your monitor? I know on mine with an nvidia card it was set to a limited color range out of the box instead of full color

The only thing that had prompted me to look is when I switched from AMD -> NVIDIA and the colors were noticably different in like all of my games

Although it does point back to your setup somehow causing the issue since this happens on both airlink and physical quest link. However a generally better alternative for linking wirelessly to a PC is Virtual Desktop. You have more control, generally performs better, and its not meta. Its basically a win in every category except that it costs like $15, granted you technically paid around $300 for quest link and airlink so...

You do not need 5 ghz wifi to play vrchat, only problem I can see actually would be it is 5 ghz wifi and is easily obstructed giving them a bad connection to their router. Heck, I cannot think of a single game that requires 5 ghz wifi for playing online...

My game used to have the connection problem and it was because it was switching between 2ghz and 5ghz which some wifis do. 5ghz wifi is reccomended for gaming but not needed Ik. But once I made a separate 5ghz wifi my problem was fixed.

That’s one of the fixes that some people have said to do when having connection problems and and it helped me

Yeah that won't help what so ever it could make It way worse if you keep doing it for another month then more than just that problem can happen ex: lose wiring, less audio, can't connect, cameras can't detect hand tracking or the controllers

Does anyone have the same problem of trying to launch vrchat then it keeps freeze framing every few minutes for it to eventually load in only to say that I have to restart or join a new instance but then it’s permanently frozen so I have to restart then it just repeats itself? Make sure to not over charge ur headset. Once it hits 100% unplug if you don’t need it charged don’t charge it. The battery’s wear down overtime ofc but ways to make it last longer are not playing with it plugged in and the other stuff mentioned

Hello everyone ive been playing vrchat for well over 3,000 hours and my oculus quest 2 is broken (charge port is messed up, battery does not last more than 1 hr and 30 minutes/slow charging).. should i just buy a valve index? (i also connect my quest to my pc)

Hey so, my pictures in vrc won't sync to the oculus app. It usually does it by itself and now it just won't sync. I made sure my phone and headset are connected to the Wi-Fi and had Bluetooth on and it still didn't work. And my pictures don't go to the Camera app on the oculus so I can't manually sync it myself, any ways to fix this?

It does. . but you still need a computer that can actually run VR.
The only limiter with Virtual Desktop is a graphics card that can actually encode, which isn't a given with really weak/old hardware.

You wouldn't even be able to use the Oculus intergration.

But it is possible to get events for specific controller types, it is just a matter of finding out what event they call. But the recommended way is just using those events.

VRChat is a heavy game, sometimes, so just like other heavy games it will stress the GPU.
70C for a GPU is ok, GPU's run hot overall and don't really care until they get into the 80s.

The rx 560 is below minimum spec, as it was in 2016. And it only has 4GB of VRAM.
It might work, but it will be rough, you'll definitely need to be wary of which avatars you show and which avatar you yourself use.

In addition you definitely should lower the resolution because running a Quest 2 is like playing a game at 4k (close enough), I am not sure how you do that with Airlink though (Virtual Desktop is easy).

However, as you already have all the parts, it is of course worth a try though, but don't get your hopes up too much.

I do not know what fps Quest users suffer, but the most popular flying world has a Quest version so as long as you follow the first bit about showing avatars then it will be "fine".

the quest app is incompetent and sometimes won't sync media

I would personally suggest logging into your Google drive from the quest browser and uploading that way

photos should be no problem but you must keep your headset on while doing so

if you are gonna do large video files, either just keep the quest on your head lifted up or bust open the youtube vr app because you'll be there for a while (likely hours)

That is different, and you are either extremely lucky or have tight safety settings, but the vast majority of quest users have problems with running out of memory which isn’t something you could just cancel. Especially since the QuestOS will kill the VRChat application when it sees it using too many resources, like RAM

Think that usually happens when a device can't keep up with the networking, VRChat really dislikes players that are desynced (which isn't easy to become, at least on PC, but does happen), although a recent update should have helped with that, by more reliably sending you back into the same instance.

VRChat on Quest 2 only has 4GB to use as both RAM and VRAM.

Think you mean the opposite, but for some reason it seems like Quest doesn't do page swaps (using the internal storage as a very temporary, very slow, storage for what should be in RAM), I think it is because Android just doesn't do swapping either, I think it is weird.

If the QuestOS was capable of doing it then VRChat would probably survive, but you'd get single digit fps.

Android can have a swap file setup, but doesn't seem like anyone uses it. Also wouldn't make much sense on a standalone VR headset where you (Meta) never ever want to let the user experience single digit fps.
