so there has been people in this server dming me, friending me etc. and there are two types of people, one who wants to commission me but uses fake pictures from the internet, and the other one that comes from the avatar-help channel, they send me a picture of my message and ask if i need help, they say they'll do it for me but want to charge excessive amounts of money for it, including the avatars, even though they're taken from the internet (and possibly ai generated) is kind of a fraud in my opinion

so uhm... dunno where to put this, but my antivirus flagged up VRChat as being infected with IDP.Generic? Looking this up on the internet it is commonly a false positive so I scanned the file with VirusTotal... and it still said it was infected?

Since I come from the minecraft modding community, and so am aware of the times that genuine respectable mods are infected with viruses, then I can easily imagine that an official download of a popular game on Steam could be infected too. Therefore since two sources have both said it to be infected, I don't want to risk it.

However, this I am fairly confident needs to have the attention of the official folk. I have already created a VRChat Ticket (although there wasn't a category that obviously fitted, so I filed it as an exploit/vulnerability because that is the closest), and a discussion on the steam page

Its honestly fairly funny to think a giant studio like VRchat would have the same problem kids in bedrooms have with mods...
idp.generic false positives happen from not up to date anti viruses (or free versions, as those are almost all scams anyway), so update your anti virus and odds are big it wont trigger on it again.

Also seems to only trigger on Avast and AVG lists, so anti antivirus that uses there list will have this

What I meant is that the mods get infected whilst on the curseforge website, as in they were uploaded clean and become infected before they are downloaded. I don't know the details of how steam stores its files compared to curseforge, but if one game/mod sharing website could have cross-infections, I could imagine this being possible in another, since ultimately anyone can upload a "game" to steam, and at its core either a game or an MC mod is an executable, and therefore can contain the same types of viruses

Looking at the internet it looks like bitdefender is a good antivirus to use, so I'm installing that and hoping it'll be better

Curse is a platform where anyone can upload any mod
Steam checks game files (and doesnt allow anyone to upload anything, they check all content they host). They also host it on there own server where they also scan for this stuff
So unless you think a game company is untrust worthy and they could bypass steams filter then its nothing like with Curse

Also honestly unless you plan to download dumb shit or want to pay out of your ass for an anti virus (that you dont need unless you plan to do silly internet things).
Then windows build in Anti virus is more then good enough

What happpens is that i go to open, the little pop up opens up, loading the easy anti-cheat stuff./ and then boom quikcly crashes, nothing at all. Cant open it at all, and i play vr as pc/vr user, connected with my quest 2. Although you CAN get away without one I should add. I've been quite successful with doing wireless VR over the main AP in my house which is a UniFi AP AC Lite while other people are using it. If you have a good quality AP it should work well

So, I just got here, and not to like throw in any unwanted and unwarranted two cents (🤓), but I say this with good intent in mind if anyone reads this, though I'll adress it specifically to admin Sacheverell:

Over in VR Chat General 1, there was a lot of important stuff said about your specifics on your team that you work with (namely Trust and Safety) and what you're specifically doing, as well as what other teams should or are currently working on, which is really cool to look at and learn about as someone just getting into the game and glad for any improvement set to come to it to solve issues that have been long running or more current. However, I will say that the communications of VR-Chat general 1 lean themselves more towards more, well, "general" discussions; I myself had a hard time following the whole prior conversation maybe not entirely from being new, but just because of how much was said by varying people, all ranging in levels of cooperation or the willingness to hear about everything going on. With that in mind, I would definitely reccomend that if there's ever specifics that are talked about in General that they perhaps be moved into some sort of Q and A channel where the common thoughts people have can be answered without being surrounded by other chat clutter, or to look into some way for important stuff to be seperated from the more common General Chat discussions. I am eternally grateful for any improvements that are in the works and any improvements the game does get, and as a new VR Chat user, I'm both excited to see the game grow as well as get to see the game improve with public idea in mind!

vrchat literally unplayable on quest 2 it keeps saying "connection timed out" after 2 minutes and i have 5 ghz wifi and the router is in my room and my ping is 100-130

Again, it's a common issue with certain ISPs, for some reason they can't seem to find the correct route in which to establish connection with VRChat's servers.

The only workable fix right now is using a VPN to correct it.

You said you're running off Quest, so it'd have to be a DNS fix on your router (simply changing the IP in the admin panel) or sideloading WARP on your headset and running it there.

I tried using steamvr with my quest 2 to see if that will change anything but still got connection timed out and now im gonna try to download cloudfare and if that doesnt work i will probably buy a vpn. Also Is there a free way to fix the DNS routing problem that you know of if cloudfare doesnt fix it?

Anyone else noticed that Anti Aliasing in VR seems to have very little effect on image quality whilst doubling performance use?

I was able to get a better image by going from 100% to 200% render resolution and turning AA off and having half the gpu render time

It almost feels like it shouldn't be an option in VR

I haven't checked the difference on VRChat, but for all other VR Games I've played Anti Aliasing is a huge difference!

Quite a range of responses from it's essential to not using it at all xd, i'm gonna venture to guess it varies between hardware and headset. Personally I'm using VD to stream to my quest 3 and have snapdragon super resolution enabled which could possibly already be doing the job of AA whilst being more performant though I'm yet to test it
