I decided to try out multiplayer, traveled to twelve towers, someone immediately shot me on the Landing pad and killed me, I came back, got into my sentinel ship to hover around from a distance, then a ship shot me down 😄. Is that normal?

I recommend going into network settings and turning off PVP if you’d like, as it’s on by default :(( I’m sorry to hear that. People unfortunately do grief at those featured bases.

Bummer, but it’s rare that people will grief in this community. Seems mainly at featured bases and at expedition rendezvous points and such, thankfully there’s settings to help with that

I don't attack obvious new players. That's low class and there's no proving or testing anything in that. I like a good fight with challenge, and some people are happy to oblige. Win or lose, it's still fun.

The only rules I follow on pvp it are don't attack obvious new people, don't attack someone who's obviously afk, and don't attack someone more than once (unless they come back and attack first for a rematch). Aside from that everything else goes.

I also tend not to attack people who are building or doing a similar task, no fun gettimg the upper hand through underhanded tactics.

I'm equipped to PvP at pretty much any level - being a vocal supporter of civilized PvP has always been an uphill battle; have literally been fighting the stigma since Origins. there are - we have one, and a lot of other groups out there do too #archived-nms-communities
ours is generally chatted about here, and the glyphs are posted in the pins.
we recommend you use the bot in #998315852841619620 once you pick a spot for your base, so that you don't overlap someone else's base (since the game only loads about 20 bases per planet when you load in, and there are over 100 bases in the system or so right now).

Registering your base will also prevent others from building atop you in the future. Any trouble with the bot, feel free to ask.

Yeah unlike some hubs we are literally confined to just the one system. Distira is packed so make sure to check for bases nearby, other planets got far more real estate.

Got ya. With our Hub, we gotta upload bases pretty often. Gleam uploads Hub Central every night. The list of bases returned by ODS is very short, usually 18 at most. So bases get bumped off the list pretty quick.

To this day we still don't understand why the game or ODS restricts certain hubs like ours this much. Meanwhile expedition rendezvous systems have a much longer list of bases that stay for a long long time. I've always assumed it to be an ODS data bug. Devilin made a very thorough report to HG when we launched our Hub as we started seeing the issue. Ran tons of tests. And we've been stuck with a short list since opening.

Well...went to to reupload the base and the game locked up in the teleport screen...which is a first for me

If the issue persists, I wonder if switching to the Experimental branch would make a difference. Since one of the issues that last got patched had to do with the Expedition's rendezvous 1 system crashing everyone who tried to teleport/warp to it. HG released a patch that stops the game from crashing when loading corrupt ODS data.

Sorry I just saw this. You can also check #no-mans-sky or the voice channels when folks are on. Around this time, the server's slower. Another option is also trying the Pan Galactic Star Cabs server, although I understand getting a ride that way may take longer.

Discussing it with Devilin, it seems to be an ODS server issue.

It's not always happening altho it happens often. And it's not happening on Xbox. Not sure why the same version of the game on Xbox wouldn't be accessing the same servers or is handling the ODS data differently.

I am a noob in fighting on a planet, much better at dogfight

So, being very low HP, I hid in my ship

Not taking off because I would be forced to land right after because of interceptors

I was waiting for those sentinels to calm

They deployed interceptors (that could not attack me because I didn't take off)

So came more and more interceptors that could do nothing.

Until...

I saw an alert message.

"ALERT: Sentinel Dreadnought Deployed".

The enemy freighter shot me with its lasers even though I was still on the ground.

It almost destroyed my ship with lasers, but finally, I went off my ship.

Destroyed by a walker.

Plans to reclaim freighter rooms in the immediate future have been sidetracked by the erection of a sentinel combat hide; fire at the enemy from the safety of a shelter (with panic room shutters and a roof that overhangs the balconies). Stop by for a quick harvest and a good chance of viewing the planet's behemoth Mantid Fauna.

Original Guildford base is up and running, but i know the game wont show it, for some reason its always been that way for some time now, if the base cannot be seen in 2 - 4 hours i'll be moving it to a different spot in another save, that might do the trick

I ask so that one of us can check if the base is there (giving ODS at least 24 hours to check since it can take that amount of time before it shows again).

2 - 3 months ago, but by that time, the next Day of the upload someone's visited the place and didnt see my base, so...there's that, and also why I didn't came to upload it week by week until now

@ember ginkgo Bases only update once a day to become publicly available. Looking at the time of your posting here last night, you may have just missed the window to become available today. Your base will of course be available for MP sessions/instances when you are in-game yourself, which can be iffy at times in busy systems like the Hub

Also be aware that in a busy system, you may have to time your upload well, depending on the amount of uploads happening throughout the day. Availability is limited

It’s most likely a bug, i doubt it’s intentional for the player to be temporarily removed from mp just to be put back and the exchanged ship to change.

If anything the method to remove ship “trading” didn’t work the way they intended, resulting in the bug.

We have our own in-game hub (more info about it in pins), but with how NMS works, I can't say there'd be "a lot of people" when you visit. We have a lot of bases in our hub, but ODS / the game doesn't allow for you to see all of the bases at once, especially if you're not in a lobby or group with another player.

On that note though, everyone is welcome to build in our Hub. But I can't promise seeing a lot of people unless we run an event.

Maybe you can also check our #archived-nms-communities channel to check other NMS communities / hubs / civilizations that may be more populated in respect to active players you'd come across when you visit.

If you just want to find a portal... use your exocraft, if you have one, and have all the radar tech installed. Jump into it and choose exocraft radar, then scan for Alien Structures. It will point you to a Monolith. Which will point you to a portal when the correct options are chosen.

Come visit the gulag! It's one of a kind prison facility for naughty travellers getting caught red-handed.

• The Pit: In this shot you can try to see how deep the pit of despair goes. It's super dark, under normal Red's Dungeon weather conditions (if not in photo mode).
• Courtyard: Daytime & nighttime views with the watchtower overlooking it.
• Basketball Court: where lower security inmates can get a recreational workout during their 1-hour break outdoors. Daytime & nighttime.
• Scary moment: Me running away from a high security inmate that broke out. Thankfully, the AI mech caught them in the end.
• Workout area: Me resting after an intense night workout, while the inmates slept.
• Dining table: Nighttime shot while Laylaps helps with security, inspecting things....

So I explained about resolution changes that resulted in those weird images we had been seeing

All my base images have had this odd distortion since Echoes

I didn't think the game ever even sent any image data over to other players

I just went to check and see what I can confirm at the moment. I am still seeing some images flawed, with the data still having the higher res but looking weird because of being drawn lower res

The new images use 640x360 resolution, for a total of 921600 bytes (4 bytes per pixel).
The previous format used 768x432 res with a total of 1327104 bytes.
An even older format for 'waypoints', only used 100x55 res with 22000 bytes

I have not paid attention to 'Other' bases much to be honest

From a performance POI I can understand a lower resolution for these, but maybe this change is related to a larger thing happening? Properly networking base images in MP?

Ah, it helps to actually enable MP then 😄 I rarely do so, no wonder I never notice much for that matter
