This game is an open-world sandboxy game! There's a lot to do and not a lot of direction
Try to set goals for yourself, but if you're struggling, there's stuff like building a corvette or base, finishing the main story, shooting up pirates, raiding derelicts etc.

Oh I do this a bunch. If I want to hunt for a cool Sentinel interceptor, I shoot the space station once and fight the 5 waves (including capital ship). Then I shoot the space station once again and keep doing this until I have a lot of Carrier AI Fragments

then I burn through them

The main story is decent but I wouldn't focus overly hard on it. NMS is a game that's best enjoyed at your own pace, and is often most enjoyable when you go off and do your own thing

You're not the first person I've spoken to who thought you can only put habs on top and in front of/behind each other

but yeah, if you put a hab next to another hab horizontally, walkways automatically form in there

just make sure you don't accidentally block them off with refiners, storage containers, etc.

My standard thing these days is to claim the settlement, build/upgrade the Overseer's office, then immediately find a good place on the edge as close as possible to place a base with a view of the settlement, and run a Short Range Teleporter corridor down to the Overseer's office. That is such fun!

DLSS means it's not entirely a 1:1 comparison, but if we're talking upscaling, then NMS does also support FSR and that will work on the Deck
