Back before VR arrived, the rounded Fighter cockpit and the Explorer cockpits were the only two cockpits that had a very wide L/R view pan range. You could see much more in these cockpits than the others by looking L/R (I use a controller with two sticks to play on PC), so I only used those two cockpits.

^ and I mean in normal play, not in VR -- but the VR update changed the ships in several ways (including making them much larger than they had been, along with the landing pads).

I still fly it today -- I found it before ships had classes. When classes were added, all the pre-class ships became C-class. I've, of course, upgraded it to S-class.

Also the exotics don't have unique cockpit they use the explorer cockpit. I hate that about them lol.

well TBH both ship archetypes feature spherical cockpit, so it was easier for them to reuse existing one

back then they had limited manpower so its kinda understandable

now they can pump unique ships and go wild with interiors

Early NMS ships looked more like cartoons (for lack of a better word) than they needed to with tech at the time - I think it was a stylistic decision. Perhaps partially in service of the PS4 (target platform) overall system power.

Yep, we didn't get bases or freighters until Foundation 1.1 on Nov 26 2016, about 3.5 months after launch and radio silence from NMS. Out of nowhere the update just landed.

Guessing the early versions graphics requirements were lower, if they had everything how it is now i could see a lot of complaints.
Bit off topic but noticed Crysis was released in 2007, and that required a pretty high end PC to run.
Not sure when they started developing NMS but the combo of a smaller development team and trying to keep it accessible may be why the graphics looked so cartoonish vs now.

It was wilder, off the chain, less reined in. They reduced the randomness / pulled the terrain gen back a bit in Atlas Rises and massively in NEXT to establish actual biomes, etc. I always preferred it as it was before. Wild.

I've only heard Hello Games / Sean talk about it once:

And we wanted to get that across. That this isn’t just — this isn’t an end, it isn’t just, “here is an update with some more content in.” It’s something quite fundamental for us.

There are certain points along the outside that will be where you can jump to the core at

You need to have the galactic core selected on the galaxy map, follow it to its destination then the center should be accessable

You need a full warp drive to jump to a core

I already tryed to select the core in the free roam mode, following the mission line, but I can't select it. Now i try to refull my warp drive and try again and see what appen

You have to have "galactic core" selected in the galaxy map, not free select

Then you'll be able to move your cursor toward the center and a new option will show up saying select star

I think the problem is that the game engine is optimized for the procedural generation of spherical planets on a large scale, and as much as I wish it werent so, focusing on a few aspects results in less capacity for others

I definitely want some more sophisticated automation in nms, but idk how well the game would handle it

The exocraft bay is a vanilla thing in nms, and functions as one when placed outside its usual conditions, but mods or external build editors let you place it without the restrictions the game has

That's amazing to hear! I just started during the holidays and keep finding interesting things, apart from the tons of missions you can get into and should! I get so sidetracked with cooking & fishing, but I don't care. I'm having a blast!

Just exploring and finding your own "new" thing is pretty awesome. I see some similarities in fauna now after lots of hops mostly, but I just realized after searching through my visited places that I didn't scan in some places! I think I'm going to head back and see what I missed!

The recipes are kind all mixed up and recipes that look alike or have similar ingredients are in very different parts of the cooking catalogue
